I know you’ve heard about Harrison Butker by now, and his embarrassment of a commencement speech at Benedictine College. You’ve probably seen the NFL kicker roasted six ways from Sunday for his misogyny, hypocrisy, and regressive nonsense. People have already written about his stupidity, everyone has memed his nonsense, and conservatives have applauded him for advocating for a return to the 1950s. That is exactly what he was doing, unashamedly. Butker delivered countless awful lines, saying, “Things like abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as a growing support for degenerate cultural values in media, all stem from the pervasiveness of disorder.” Which is an ugly mix of law and order rhetoric and sexism, a mix that makes no logical sense but scratches a certain itch in the mind of his conservative audience.

I just want to briefly add to the criticism of this Super Bowl winner, who will probably run for office before too long. Specifically, I want to highlight the inane variety of patriarchal bullshit running through his speech, and his apparent approach to the world. Butker and men like him are trying to sell us a load of hot garbage, and get men to be the worst version of themselves. They’re trying to make us see ourselves as victims, and encouraging us to use that false belief as fuel to go out and hurt other people. We can and should reject that directive.

We should reject it for countless reasons, but I think the place to start is to look at this guy telling us we’ve been oppressed by society and so we should stand up and be real men and tell women to be homemakers. He makes four million dollars a year to kick a ball, he’s won the Super Bowl, and he’s still a miserable person pretending to be a victim. All that wealth, all the success, and he’s going to speak at a college to tell young women, “I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”

As they’re graduating college to go out into the world, he’s telling them to stay home and be mothers. He’s theoretically reached the American dream, and he’s spending his time telling college girls to be “homemakers.”

Oh and in the days since his speech it’s come out that his mom is an accomplished physicist. But nevertheless.

From what I've noticed, there are 2 types of Trans identified males. They are very different from each other though obviously, neither is actually a woman.

Type 1. Homosexual man with internalized homophobia. Typically, these men were very feminine and/or were raised in a very homophobic household. See as an example, Jazz Jennings. These men don't typically have any sexual interests towards real women, they just viewed transition as a way to "fix" what they perceived to be wrong with them. They want the full transition, they usually have actual body dysphoria.

Type 2. Autogynophiles, your typical transbian. These are the men who stole their female family members clothes to masturbate with, those who watch a lot of sissy porn, and who don't want to actually medically transition. These are the ones who are very aggressive towards real women, especially lesbians and are the more dangerous of the two.

Once again, obviously neither belongs in women's spaces however, if I had to chose. Like, gun to my head, make a choice, I'd rather share a bathroom with a type 1 trans identified male. They have no sexual interest in me and are less likely to actually harass me and I actually feel kind of sorry for them. They've been sold a cure to something that isn't actually a sickness

‘We Can Live Forever’ by mostly_maudlin - A wintry high school au with healthy rivalries and pining. Best friends andreil are so woven together it’s a wonder no one has dubbed them with a ship name as Andrew helplessly pines. It’s snappy and full of family, foxes and developing relationships. If you don’t normally read fics where they’re teens, you may like this one.

‘The Monkey in the Wrench’ by Fire_Bear - A Die Hard au with bamf!neil protecting his family and reigniting old love feels like the Christmas fic we never knew we needed. Breaking my own rule of falling for a wip for this one.

‘Cerulean Nights’ by misalignedstars - kevjean shipper or not, the star crossed lovers/longing/yearning/regret subplot hurts so good. This may be the yearningest thing I’ve ever read.

i do very genuinely believe that Dan and Phil want to go to other places than they actually wind up going to because of touring logistics, and i also recognize that though they're involved in the conversation (ex. Phil's email thread about Mexico), they don't individually book the gigs and it is extremely likely that there are a lot of places where venues are unwilling to host a show without a number of people likely to go surpassing a certain threshold, and maybe even the fact that the show description mentions them being gay is a problem in certain areas. i understand all of that and i also additionally get that my expectations for them are lowered by the fact that they are two rich white men from the UK so i'm not exactly expecting peak leftism here. ALL i'm saying is i wish they had a little more tact, and particularly i mean Dan here, in talking about the fact that they can't go to certain places. and i know it's just one tweet because Dan and Phil both actually did a good job addressing this in the pre-tour Q&A in my opinion (they were compassionate and also had like a concrete explanation even if it was a bit belated, i get why they'd include it in a tour Q&A instead of just a singular tweet), just. as a general note i really do not love how they talk about non-Western countries sometimes and i'm disinterested in getting into the weeds of discourse about it because there's not really a ton more to say, just. love them but it's fucking irritating. yeah that's all.

Putting aside serious issues that cause actual harm because that’s not what I’m talking about, every person has their own biases, makes jokes some people will find offensive, is ignorant on some topics, may overreact, act out on emotion, overshare, miss social cues or word things poorly. A person may have some fetishes or preferences others find distasteful or say something that ages poorly. Humans are messy and complicated.
