rook being such a nobody and surrounded by more influential companions right after the obviously well known inquisitor could be really cool actually. that conversation w solas 'what will they call you after this is done' <- NO FUCKING CLUE LOL!! the idea that this millennia long, world-ending story of gods and a herald being controlled for a moment by a nobody is incredible. they start as an irritant and end having saved the world. nobody thanks them. they go back home. maybe they're literally wiped off the face of the world when they're trapped in the fade with the dread wolf! and most of all, their name is not remembered. literally, because they become a 'rook' to the inquisitor's king.

like i’m actually really liking the idea that the inquisitor and rook get conflated into the same person by the public and by history, and what little agency they had is taken away. you were never in control of this story. your narrative will be written by other people, just like every figurehead that came before you. you are not the chosen one. the choice to have faded out and see the irrelevancy as a boon, or struggle to make your name known (not rook, not the nickname, not the title) would have been so. interesting.

veilguard is a heroic story (and the game doesn’t even let you be rude most of the time) that has to end heroically (the evanuris are defeated in some way, the last archdemon dies, and most rooks climb down from minrathous to literal cheers and applause) but the hero themself is forgettable. narratively that could have been so funnnn. but it wasn’t on purpose so it just feels hollow.

YOUR WORSHIP. villain au. ending pre-requisites: no strong bonds forged with the majority of the inquisition members. few personal quests & side quests were completed, multiple high disapproval scenes likely triggered. pirith made choices at the behest of his advisors that did not sit well within his heart, but remain his all the same. did not drink from the well.

The Inquisition is not disbanded, it is folded into the chantry without protest upon the ascension of the new Divine. In truth, Inquisitor Lavellan did not seem to possess much fight after Corypheus' defeat. In the wake of the magister's demise he seemed adrift, lost, without connections to bind him firmly to the world he now lived in.

Thougyh a charming man on the surface, inside his chest beats a dead heart. Each desperate decision made to turn an unwinnable situation into a victory destroyed a little more of his soul. Not a one of them made by the man he had ever hoped to be, the Inquisitor now sits alone on a cold throne. He is able to root out the spies in his midst with ease, and thus no Qunari plot is able to take root within his ranks.

As such, he never discovers the truth. Not of what the Evanuris were, not of what Solas is. The anchor remains firmly affixed to his palm.

The ritual still goes awry. The elven gods are unleashed upon Thedas, and Elgar'nan wastes no time in identifying a mortal with enough power to be of worth. He offers an alliance to the Inquisitor. With it, a promise to restore all he had lost - assuring him Clan Lavellan could be restored to life, and believing this to be true he takes it without question. Be it the God's power or the desperation of a man too far gone, he takes the Alliance and the power it offers. He is ruthless beyond measure, using his status as the Herald of Andraste to crush any opposition that crossed his path.

Of course, it would be far more apt to call him the Herald of Elgar'nan now.

I know fans joke abt how the warden is more competent than the inquisitor bc they did all that w/o much help but the funny thing abt amihan is she actually isn't

she was 20, angry and hated herself and the world, she ended up in the situation she was in bc she was...a petty snitch. she also hates being a grey warden and continues to hate being one through dai - she actually leaves but then decides to search for the cure

for most of the Blight, it was fuck up after fuck up. like I play it so that I have enough ppl to help me fight the archdemon, but in my personal headcanon, she pissed off a lot of potential help (whether it be Circle mages who overheard her saying she was "gonna annul this shit" out of anger, eamon's men who did NOT like her, bhelen who didn't really trust the fact that she knew nothing about politics), left a bad taste in people they came across and picked a fight with anora

which I think makes sense for a 20 year old ill-adjusted young woman who had to learn how to be more selfless. beating the archdemon was pure luck mixed with people just NOT WANTING the Blight to destroy ferelden and realizing joining the fight was the only way to stay alive

amihan does grow, but it's slow, she has to process trauma, understand she hurt people and ruined their lives and to actually experience what it's like being loved (both platonic and romantic)

I tend to not post so much abt how much amihan fucked up and almost let a Blight swallow ferelden bc I tend to feel anxious abt how ppl will receive it but I think it's important to her character and it's fun and interesting for me to play with it in this case

immy is 100% more competent than amihan, in spite of her own flaws, but I love both my messy and my scaredy cat girl all the same
