“I really liked that instructor! She really gave us a challenge.” You told your best friend and roommate, Nyota.
“I still can’t get firefly down.”
“This was actually the first time I could hold it!” You replied excitedly, making her chuckle. She looked ahead and groaned a bit. You looked too to see Jim Kirk headed your way. “Good morning, Jim!” He looked a little disheveled, his hair messy and shirt wrinkled. It was before regulation hours so it was acceptable to wear civilian clothes instead of cadet reds but you were still surprised to see him in sweats and a t-shirt.
“Hey you two, what’re you doing up so early?” He asked and he was right. The class started at 5:30am and ended at 6:30am. It was a bit rough to get up at first but it got easier as time went on.
“We just got out of yoga.” You explained.
“I’m guessing you were busy ‘studying’ last night, Kirk?” Uhura added with a raised eyebrow. “Walk of shame back to your quarters?” You bit a smile back from your lips and elbowed her.
“Leave him alone, I’m sure he was actually studying.” You said in a mocking tone, making him shift his weight and scoff.
“You wound me, Cadet (Y/L/N). Marla and I were just studying!”
“You might wanna cover up that hickey if you’re using that excuse again.” Nyota replied and you snickered, adjusting the strap on your back to pull your yoga mat further up. His brows furrowed for a minute before smirking a little.
“Any way you could teach me some poses?” Uhura looked over at you with a deadpan look on her face. She wasn’t a big fan of Jim, and really wasn’t when he flirted with you.
“Jim, I don’t think you could handle yoga. Period.” You challenged. He tilted his head at you and crossed his arms across his chest with an incredulous look on his face.
“I’m in advanced combat, I think I can handle a few stretches.”
“Oh that ego will only carry you so far.” You snapped back with a smile. “Don’t worry, pretty boy, I’m sure that you’ll find something more your speed.”
“C’mon, can we please go get breakfast?” Uhura begged and you nodded.
“See you around, Kirk.” He watched as you left and pulled out his PADD from his bag. He’d prove you wrong and win a date in the process.
“Do you think he’ll try to join us next time?” Uhura asked and you laughed. “Oh you know it. But think of it this way, you’ll see Jim Kirk fall on his ass.” Uhura shook her head with a smile.
“Alright, I’m game. So when are you going to tell him you’re not interested in him.” You rolled your eyes as you picked up a platter. “He flirts with you all the time and yet you flirt with the doctor.”
“Because it’s fun! Nyota, you realize that if I told him that I wasn’t interested in him we wouldn’t see the hilarity that’s about to ensue? I like playing him like a fiddle. The other week I got him to go get a slushy for me while I talked to Leonard.”
“I think Kirk’s met his match. I didn’t have to deal with that with you know who. If I want something, I have to tell him and explain exactly why I want it. It’s illogical the other way.” You laughed and grabbed an andorian apple. “Has anything happened between you and Leonard?”
“We studied together the other day over some coffee and actually had a lot of fun. He said he liked that I could keep up with his sense of humor.”
“Anything else?”
“Told me he’d like to hang out with me again.”
“Finally!” She praised, making you laugh as you sat down with Christine and Gaila.

“Bones! I have a surprise for you!” Jim announced as he burst into their quarters. Bones groaned in his bed and buried his face into his pillow.
“What Jim?” “Guess where we’re going Wednesday morning at 5:30?”
“5:30? Dammit Jim, this better be good.” Jim threw his bag on the bed and began to pull out his uniform.
“We’re going to yoga!” Leonard shot up and glared at his roommate. “It’ll be fine! It can’t be that hard.”
“Why the hell are we going to yoga and why wasn’t I told about this before you signed us up for it?” He spat. Jim just waved him off as he brushed through his hair.
“I ran into (Y/N) and Uhura this morning as they were coming out and (Y/N) said it was too intense for me. So I’m gonna prove her wrong. You’re coming with me for emotional support and as a witness.” Leonard relaxed a little when he heard you would be there. He had never done a day of yoga in his life but if it was an opportunity to hang out with you…
“Alright, fine. Move, I gotta take a shower.” Jim slapped his shoulder on the way and Leonard still couldn’t help but glare at him. 5:30 in the morning? Watching him try to flirt with you and do yoga? God help him.

You and Uhura rolled out your mats as the instructor that you loved talked to one of the newbies. You set everything aside like your yoga blocks, strap, towels, and bolster aside in a tidy manner and looked out the window.
“No.”
“What?” Uhura replied and looked to see Jim and Leonard.
“How’d he get him into this? Leonard doesn’t like this kinda thing!” You blabbered quietly and she nearly rolled her eyes. “Because he likes you. Even Sp-Commander Spock would be able to tell that.” You glared at your friend.
“Shut it, they’re coming in.” You replied as they walked through the door. “Leonard, what a surprise!”
“Hey, yeah, Jim, uh, dragged me into it.” He answered.
“Jim.”
“(Y/N).” He smiled, taking off his shoes and putting them in a cubby. “I’m gonna go grab a mat.” God, he was so cocky. If someone had told you that he would become more humble as the years went on you would’ve laughed in their face.
“You don’t mind if I sit next to you, do ya?” Leonard asked and you shook your head with a warm smile.
“Not at all!” He smoothed out the mat and you could tell he wanted to spray it down just to make sure it was clean. “You’ll need yoga blocks, a strap, and a bolster too.” You whispered and he got back up with a groan, making you chuckle. Jim set his mat next to Leonard’s and winked at you. Leonard came back around, trying to ignore Jim’s incessant flirting. Leonard had mentioned to him that he found someone attractive but he hadn’t mentioned who. He wasn’t even sure if you liked him instead of the blonde, thinking that maybe you were just playing hard to get.
“You gonna grab the blocks?” Leonard asked and Jim scoffed.
“I don’t need any of that!”
“I would highly recommend it.” The instructor interrupted.
“I’m fine, thank you.” The instructor looked over at you and Uhura, but you both just served her an apologetic look. You wanted to apologize to Leonard as well for getting him into this, but Uhura was right. Leonard would’ve said no, he’d been able to ignore Jim’s incessant requests before. But did that mean that he really liked you?
Before you could say anything, the music came on and the class stopped chatting.
“Welcome to advanced sunrise yoga, everyone. Let’s begin by lying on our backs and regulating our breathing before we move on.” Everyone did as they said, and Jim just smirked at you. You prayed to whatever there was that the instructor would be tough that day. You knew Leonard wouldn’t push himself and do the beginner poses but Jim was so damn stubborn he’d do whatever it took to prove you wrong. “Now if you will move to downward dog, you may peddle your legs to loosen up a bit, we’ll hold this position for a few rounds of breathing.” Simple enough. “Let’s move into a plank position before we go down to the floor and transition to cobra.”
The beginning was always the easiest, it was about twenty minutes in that things got more intense. The four of you had moved along smoothly until the point that the instructor pulled out the big guns.
“After staying in cobra for a few rounds of breathing, let’s move into peacock or mayurasana. If you’re a beginner you can do is place your hands on the floor and twist them towards your body and lean on them in a modified plank. Or you can move into peacock like so.” You and Uhura peeked over at Jim and Leonard and nearly cackled at their wide eyes as the instructor supported all of her weight on her hands, looking like she was lying prone in the air. Jim looked over at you and you cocked your head at him as you and Uhura continued to follow the instructor.
“Hell no.” Leonard muttered and went into the modified plank. You were busy looking down at your mat, focusing on your breathing as your arms wobbled a bit.
Then, you heard a thud against the ground that you felt through the floor.
“Are you alright, cadet?”
“I’m fine.” Jim rasped, the air knocked out of him. You saw Leonard’s body shaking with quiet laughter. You and Uhura looked at each other, trying not to laugh and compromise your poses.
“And if you will return to child’s pose and we’ll stay here for a few breaths before we move on to our standing split or Urdhva Prasarita Eka Padasana. If it’s too advanced then you can just stay at a full fold. Let’s move from our child’s pose to our downward dog. Sweep your right leg up and lunge, follow with your left, and let’s swan dive up. Now let’s move into our standing split.” The instructor gracefully moved into the pose and Bones looked over at Jim, seeing if Jim would tap out, but the damn fool was actually attempting it. He looked over at you to see you following the instructor as well.
“How?” He asked quietly, making you chuckle.
“Reach and flexibility.” Bones couldn’t help the blush to his cheek, trying to remind himself to keep his composure. He looked back over at Jim to see a red face and his difficulty to breathe.
Then, he started leaning over towards Bones. Before Bones could move, Jim crashed into him and his face went down into the mat. The resulting thud pulled everyone from their silence and concentration, you and Uhura quickly pulling out of your poses as Bones felt blood coming out of his nose.
“Leonard!” You cried and rolled Jim off of him, Jim groaning in the process and attempting to get your attention. Bones leaned up back on his knees and cupped his nose so you wouldn’t see. You pulled his hands away and tried not to cringe as you saw the blood coming out quickly as you cupped his face. “Oh my god-“
“It’s okay-“
“No, c’mon!” You grabbed his hand and Uhura nodded to you that she would take care of your stuff. You pulled him out of the room with the intention of taking him to the med clinic.
Jim leaned back on his mat, beginning to roll it up and looking over at Uhura as the instructor decided to cut class early. Uhura looked back at him with an annoyed look and he just sighed.
“She doesn’t like me, does she?” He asked and Uhura’s annoyed look faded into a more sympathetic one. As soon as he saw your face when you looked at Bones, he knew.
“She does like you, she considers you a close friend. She just likes messing with you, just like you do with her…right?”
“Yeah, and I think I know why Bones came with me.”
“I hate that I’m asking this but are you okay?” Uhura rolled up your mats and helped Jim stand up so he could clean his and Bones’.
“Physically I’m fine but I’m a little bummed. She’s really cute and I liked the challenge. I think I met my match.”
“Well, Jim, in hindsight you probably shouldn’t have been boasting about all the other girls you slept with while you were trying to sleep with her. Just food for thought.” Uhura grabbed your mats and slung them over her back. “Also, you probably won’t wanna come back here.”
“I’m never stepping foot in this room again.” He replied, actually making her laugh. He wasn’t seriously mad at you, he really couldn’t be. He still liked you but he knew that you two would be better off as friends than anything else. However, he’d be sure to get some sort of friendly payback later.

Bones sat on the bio bed as the doctor put bandages around his nose. He couldn’t even count the number of times that you had apologized. When he tried to apologize for getting blood on your shirt, you wouldn’t even let him finish.
“Darlin’, I’m fine.” He said as the doctor packed up their stuff and left the room. You just shook your head at him and stood up so you were level together. You looked at his nose with your brows furrowed but he just grabbed your hands and put them down on his lap. “I’m okay.”
“He broke your nose! God, I shouldn’t have said anything! I knew he would come but I didn’t think he’d drag you into it! I was just messing with him and-“
“He didn’t drag me along. I came willingly.”
“Len, I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have egged him on. If I had just stopped this earlier-“
“Stop blaming yourself!” He cut you off. You looked at him again and he squeezed your hands tighter. “I didn’t come because I thought he would win you over. I came because I wanted to spend more time with you.” Your brows lifted and you looked at him in surprise. “I’m not good at this stuff, you know that. But…I really like you.”
“Really?” You asked and he chuckled a bit.
“Really. You might not-“
“I like you too.” You cut him off instead and it was his turned to be shocked. “I just like to mess with Kirk. I don’t want him to impress me because I’m already pretty damn impressed by a brilliant southern doctor. Perhaps I should’ve gone about that a different way but I mean it, Len. I like you a lot, even if you’re not that good at yoga.” He laughed as best he could with his broken nose.
“I think I can get better as long as you’re there.” You smiled at him and shook your head. “Too cheesy?”
“I think I can deal with it.” You leaned forward and kissed his cheek. “Wanna go grab something to eat? My treat?” He rolled his eyes at you.
“Let’s definitely go get some breakfast but I’m paying.”
“Look you have a broken nose, I should pay.”
“No, I’m the man! I-“
You two bickered like that until you actually got to the restaurant.

Day 5 of #kianangyogatutorials - #SPLITS is Urdhva Prasarita Eka Padasana / Standing Split. The idea in today's pose is to 1) open the hamstrings and back quad/hip flexor area & 2) to think about squaring the hips. My hips still open slightly in this pose, and yours might too, but keep the intention of dropping the lifted hip to work towards square. My suggestion is to come into this pose from pyramid or warrior 3 where the hips are already square so you have a feeling of what you want to try and maintain through the transition. - OPTIONS: ✨Place blocks under hands ✨Hold standing ankle to work balance.
