Lean back and let it go, perhaps a new mantra for fall? I’m not trying to inspire laziness, instead just letting go of the uncontrollable, aka the outcomes. Do your best and then relax and see what happens, whether it’s work, relationships or even your yoga. And while we’re on that topic, my yoga classes are a fabulous way to add some moving meditation to your day and make yourself more mentally prepared for any outcome that 2020 still has to throw at you. Plus...it might make your abs, arms and butt look cuter. 😉

As the isolation and uncertainty goes on, it can be tough to stay positive. Focusing on gratitude, doing yoga, taking salsa dance classes (on IG) and snuggling @miathepom have all helped me lift myself out of the blahs. I really try to stay more up than down because when I’m happy, everything does seem a little better and easier. My joy also spreads to anyone that I interact with. Positivity and joy are contagious and that is my actual goal when I’m teaching my classes. So join me this week whether you’re looking to flip the script or just to add to your already awesome day. At the very least, watching Mia jump on my head during pigeon can give you a laugh. 😉🐶

Upavistha Konasana B is part of Ashtanga Primary Series. It requires a decent amount of flexibility but it’s really about engaging the correct lower ab muscles to balance...and to get up into it from laying on your back. The most important thing to remember is to laugh if you don’t get there in your first or even fifth try. Remember, you’re doing yoga to open up and let go, and if you fall over, that’s ok. Just giggle and give it another shot. Meet me at my 4:30pm Saturday class @lucentyoga where you’ll get plenty of opportunities to put this idea into play.

Reverse Warrior, aka Peaceful Warrior, is a graceful yet strong pose. This pose strengthens the legs and core while opening the chest and side ribs. It’s important to remember to keep the front leg bent as only the upper body bends back (otherwise it becomes a Reverse Triangle). Come and practice your Reverse Warrior with me at my 4:30pm Saturday class @lucentyoga.

Urdhva Padmasana is usually only practiced as part of Ashtanga Primary Series. This pose requires enough flexibility to get into full lotus and then the core strength to balance. A great hip opener, and arm and core strengthener, plus it’s also fabulous for the thyroid. If this pose peaks your interest you will get the opportunity to give it a shot in my Saturday 4:30pm class @lucentyoga.

True!!!! Life is how you look at it. If you let every tiny thing annoy you and decide that your life is terrible, then it is. If you instead shake off the little things and look at larger problems as issues that will eventually be resolved then life can be wonderful. Unfortunately towards the end of the winter, due to not enough sunlight and too much cold, even the happiest of people can start to become less chipper. The simple solution is to focus on more self care, aka more sleep, healthier food, spending time with friends and exercise. Join me on Saturday at 4:30pm @lucentyoga and spend 75 minutes on your self care. Your body and mind will thank you afterwards with a brighter resolve. And hey, if that doesn’t work then there’s always chocolate. 😉

I love inversions for so many reasons, not just because they are fun. Inversions help to move lymph which helps your immune system, they help to flush the adrenal glands which help with anxiety and depression and they help to keep the core strong as well. Expect to give one or two a try in my Saturday 4:30pm class @lucentyoga and see the benefits for yourself!

It’s a new year which brings fresh perspective. It’s time to try some new things, explore the roads you’ve yet to take, or even go deeper in a yoga pose than you’d imagined possible. But these new choices should be informed from everything you did previously (that perhaps didn’t work out as well), so that they’re not really wild ideas, just better ones. Maybe in 2019 you don’t react so quickly to an upsetting text, or you make sure to show up on time to meet up with friends, or you decide that you’re going to carefully set kapotasana as your year end yoga goal. So set your intentions and then join me at my 4:30pm Saturday class @lucentyoga, and see what unfolds after you meditate on them for 75 minutes. ✨
