soooooo popping into your ask box -- do you have any ocs youd like to share more about? :D
OMG HIII! YES—i in fact do! meet tala (first image—she’s green) and her sister, ligaya (second image—she’s yellow) my dc ocs!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i talked about tala here but to give a summary: she’s a filipino-american that’s OBSESSED with magical girls that when she gets power from being green lantern (aka has the ability to construct anything from her imagination) she pretends to be a magical girl called “sentinel stars” contrary to popular belief, the stars isn’t (just) a reference to sailor moon, but her name, which means goddess of stars. her mom named her
while she does her best to appear an optimistic person (as a symbol of peace as a “magical girl”), in reality she struggles a lot with loneliness. since her mom’s death, she’s been on her own. her dad is always busy with getting shifts for work whereas her sister, ligaya, pushed her away from their once close bond. anime is her way to fill the lonely void and being a magical girl (hero) lets her pretend to be someone she’s not: a lovable person
for ligaya—her name means happiness. yet, she’s the opposite of happy. emotionally distraught from her mom’s death, she pushed her family away. the best way to put her demeanor is batman—forever haunted by her mom’s death. it’s only by joining cheerleading in high school does she become happier; she found a support system. where she isn’t reminded of her mom’s death. she spends all her time surrounded by ppl while tala is alone
it’s good that ligaya has that support system. because in universes she doesn’t… lets just say she doesn’t end up being the best (in an au, she becomes a yellow lantern, which is fueled by fear. she uses her own fear to fuel herself and control others in her desperation to keep People Safe. they’re green lanterns worst enemies. but ligaya is tala’s sister no matter what universe she is & when she uses her powers to keep her safe despite being opposite sides on the battlefield… she’s only more convinced of that)
ligaya does care for tala though. when she’s injured, she’ll look after her injuries (despite her complaints). she’ll toss things at her face—but they’ll be tala’s favorite manga. and even after everything that happened… when tala is crying, she’ll sing her favorite song and hold her to remind her little sister she’s not alone

Books of 2024: ALWAYS NORTH by Vicki Jarrett.
To me, the scariest place on our entire planet is the Arctic, partially because the scariest thing on our entire planet are polar bears, which have been stalking my nightmares since middle school. So, of course, when I saw a fucked-up polar bear on the cover of a weird and fucked up maybe mystery maybe thriller definitely apocalyptic sci-fi adjacent book that takes place in the Arctic, I thought, "Oh yeah I should definitely start reading that at nighttime IMMEDIATELY while winter still nibbles on the edges of the weather, this is foolproof."
Reader: I am the Fool™.
I'm 80 pages in, and so far we've got weird inexplicable shit going on that we're trying to ignore, and we've been warned about bears SO Many Times All Over The Place (yikes), and we're now being stalked by a polar bear who has a History with the captain (borderline Moby Dick but make it a vicious land-capable predator), and time is fake because it's Always Daylight and we are doing Science on a Boat but make it Evil Capitalism also, and there's some neat textual framework going on with chapter headers, and I'm excited to see where this all goes!!

I do dislike how watered town the concept of an 'unreliable narrator' has become at least on this website. Any time a narrator shows even the slightest bit of bias they're deemed an unreliable narrator when like.... that's called being human? Everyone's worldview is subjective and the way you view the events around you is inherently biased. A limited POV is going to reflect this bias. Unless this bias distorts the narrative at hand on a fundamental level (see: Lolita), that does not make the narrator unreliable. Being wrong about things does not make you an unreliable narrator. If it did, it'd render the term worthless because then literally everyone ever would be an unreliable narrator.

as per the last text post, george & anne boleyn fucking is something that literally at least two people independently suggest to cromwell before that becomes one of the accusations of 1536 (some random bargeman and then jane boleyn)…

...at some point the definition of “unreliable narration” on this website has stopped describing actual unreliable narration and has just become...describing narration and point of view

‘why won’t you sleep with cis men? you’re a misandrist!!’
bc I’m an afab person of childbearing age and don’t trust cis men to use condoms anymore and don’t trust them not to rape me so yeah that might sound misandrist to you, but i live in a state with a total abortion ban and i could probably get charged with murder if i went to Illinois to get an abortion. until i figure out if im infertile, im not sleeping with yall.

I think that one thing people fail to understand is that unsolicited literary criticism coming from an online stranger who is reading with no knowledge of what the authors intended goal is, is not going to be received the same as say: the authors beta reader or friends who know what the authors intended goal and has the sufficient knowledge and input to help the author reach that desired outcome.
"But I'm only trying to be helpful" How do I know you have the knowledge and literary skill for you to be able to actaully do that when we don't know each other and you are essentially a stranger to me? Are you applying this criticism based out of personal biased experience and desire to see the story or characterization be driven in another direction or tweaked, or do you know the author's intentions for the character? If the story is incomplete, are you basing your criticism of a character on the incomplete narration with only partial information available of them or are you building up a report until the story's completion? Did the author provide you with the information needed to make a fully informed criticism?
Have you discussed with the author what their plans are or are you assuming them based off the narration, especially if the narration is proven or implied to be unreliable or missing key points of the plot? Are you unbiased enough to help them reach their desired outcome for the characters and story regardless of your personal feelings towards the characters/antagonists and setting? Can you handle being told your specific input isn't wanted because you're a reader and/or have no written anything relating to their genre or topic? Do you understand and respect that the author's personal experiences might influence their writing and make it different than how you would have done it personally? Do you understand if an author only wants input from a specific demographic relating to their story?
If it's for fanfiction or other hobby media, are you holding a free hobby to a professional standard? Are you trying to give criticism because you feel like the author has produced 'subpar job performance' of their fic? Are you viewing their work as a personal intimate outlet or something that must conform with mass media? Are you applying rules and guidelines when the fic is shared for simple sharing sake? Is your criticism worded appropriately and focused on the parts where the author has requested input on rather than a general dismissal and or disapproval?
Have you put yourself in a place where you assumed you have the input needed for the story to evolve better, or have you asked what the author needs and what they're having trouble with? Can you handle having your criticism rejected if the author decides their story doesn't need the change and not take it as a personal offense against your character? Are you crossing that boundary because you think you are doing the author a favor? Are you trying to be helpful, or do you just want to be?
I think sometimes when people hear authors go 'please don't give me unsolicited writing advice or criticism' they automatically chalk it up to 'this author doesn't want ANY constructive feedback on their stuff at all' and not "i already have trusted individuals who will help me with my writing goals and- hey i don't know you like that, please stop acting so overly familiar with me'

Now everyone, what do we do when we see this?
Tumblr media
We... report their ass as spam/bot and carry on. No violence... just report -> as spam/bot -> block in the process.
And we move on... and daydream under a big tree, on top of the hill, under a sunny sky, with gentle breeze brushin' against our face, with the sound of bird humming around as we plan on how we gonna murder them and torture the person for committing a crime on mistreating artists on this site because god damn y'all this site needs to treat creatives betters. We're not about to become the next Instagram and post art that 1. does not belong to us and 2. put this in the caption. HELL NO.
If the artist is not on Tumblr but you have their permission to post their art with credit and a source to find them. You're fine.
If the artist is on Tumblr but you have their permission to post their art onto here (with credit and @/ing them in the process). You're fine.
If an artist is on here or not BUT you didn't bother to look for them and just decided to take their work and not say anything on who is the artist to get "street creds..."
You're a dead man walking and I'm chargin' at ya.
Quick note. In case this was to blow up and explode.
Reposting ≠ Reblogging
Reposting ≠ Retweeting
Reposting ≠ Sharing
Reblogging = Retweeting
Reblogging = Sharing
Reblogging is not the same as reposting. Reposting is literally taking someone's work and posting it onto your blog makin' you the author. Reblogging/Retweeting is just putting the post from the author onto your page and still linking the author in the process. Stop overthinking it. When someone says please don't repost my work THIS IS WHAT THEY MEAN!!
Tumblr media
*kisses on the forehead, head pats, and hands you a tiny dagger* Now go slaughter those asshats that take artists' work for their own gain.

This always struck me as likely a lie. Dean was trying improve Sam's opinion of John here. He'd say anything to get them all back together.
dean telling sam “even when you two weren’t talking, [dad] used to swing by stanford whenever he could, keep an eye on you, make sure you were safe” as if that is not one of the scariest things you could learn your abusive parent who you broke contact with was doing

The rumor about returned gifts, since two informants separately revealed it to him, sounds like an invented event to assure Chapuys of Jane's honor and to neutralize the earlier rumor about Henry's presenting her with gifts. Considering the Seymours' social status and political ambitions, surely they would not have permitted their female relative to refuse presents from the King.

Don't you love it when you have a sinking feeling about something that may have happened when you were young and the more you think about it the more the pieces slot into place and next thing you know you're googling and find some pretty damming evidence and you don't know how to process it

The ADL is not a trusted source. Not on antisemitism. And not Palestine or Israel. An independent audit of the ADL’s antisemitism data, as well as the editors of Wikipedia, all agree.
The ADL mislabels antisemitism in service of the Israeli government’s hate campaign against Palestinians. It distorts its own data and manipulates its findings. In doing so, the ADL has caused incalculable harm to Palestinians and those who defend Palestinian rights. It has also chosen to minimize the terrifying growth of organized white supremacy, and ignored white nationalism’s increased threat to Jewish people. The ADL’s distorted data makes Jews less safe. We all deserve better.
On the same day that news broke that Wikipedia’s editors had declared the ADL unreliable on issues related to Palestine and Israel — and likely antisemitism as well — Jewish Currents published an investigation into the ADL’s data, pointing out that “serious statistical analysis [should be] done by an organization not beholden to Israel advocacy.”
The Jewish Currents’ audit of the ADL’s own data proves that, once the ADL’s anti-Palestinian and pro-Israeli government bias was removed, white nationalists are the driving force behind all forms of antisemitism. The audit also showed that the ADL’s reporting may “significantly undercount right-wing antisemitic incidents.” In short, the ADL’s attempts to smear the movement for Palestinian freedom not only provided cover for the real source of antisemitism (white supremacy), but actually minimized the “stunning growth of organized white nationalism.” None of this makes anyone safe.
On the same day, in a near unanimous vote, Wikipedia editors declared the ADL to be “generally unreliable” on Palestine and Israel, adding it to a list of sources of propaganda or misinformation that includes the National Inquirer and Newsmax. Wikipedia editors also said that “the ADL should not be cited for factual information on antisemitism as well because it acts primarily as a pro-Israel organization and tends to label legitimate criticism of Israel as antisemitism.”
