-The epic love story of Sam and Dean-
2K posts
I'm a sucker for romance. More of a reader than a televisionwatcher, but when my daughter got me hooked on Supernatural in 2019, Sam and Dean just blew my mind. Funfact: I discovered the existence of fanfiction by watching The monster at the end of this book. Oh yes, I should add that I do not think sex between consenting adults is morally wrong even if they are related, so don't expect me to relegate my defense of wincest to the "it's only fiction" corner. Love is love. No bigotry allowed on this blog.

saw someone on twitter saying that certain fans "want dean chained to sam forever" and maybe they do idk but something that is crucial to understanding dean is realizing that he wants that too in fact not only does dean want to be chained to sam forever but dean bought the chain, attached the chain when sam wasn't looking, swallowed the key which unlocks the chain, and is currently calling sam crazy because sam is pointing at the chain and asking "dean why are we attached to each other by a chain 🤨"

A proposal
Sometimes, in fandom, we just want to write id-tastic fic that rolls around in tropes that might be viewed as problematic. But we don’t want to address the problematic side of things in this particular fanwork; we just want to roll around and wallow.
It is considered courteous to give readers a heads-up via use of AO3 tags. I propose a tag that signals that a given fanwork is for rolling around, not giving a measured evaluation of anything. The MCU has carved out a space for this sort of fic with the “HYDRA Trash Party” tag, for which I commend them. Trash Party is a bit too specific to cover all of the ground I’m thinking of here, though; I propose “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat.”
For those of you not familiar with Arrested Development, Michael Bluth finds a paper bag in the freezer labeled “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat.” He opens the bag, finds a dead dove, and reacts as follows:
Tumblr media
[gif of a white man saying “I don’t know what I expected” in a deadpan manner]
The “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat” tag would essentially be a “what it says on the tin” metatag, indicating “you see the tropes and concepts tagged here? they are going to appear in this fic. exactly as said. there will not necessarily be any subversion, authorial commentary condemning problematic aspects, or meditation on potential harm. this fic contains dead dove. if you proceed, you should expect to encounter it.”

Zero-sum mindset and its discontents
https://www.bsg.ox.ac.uk/sites/default/files/2021-02/SM-WP-2021-001%20Zero-sum%20mindset%20and%20its%20discontents.pdf
Altogether the results from this investigation indicate that a zero-sum mindset undermines social and economic flourishing by eroding the trust and cooperation upon which a thriving society is built. Despite the many apparent benefits and essential functions of trust and cooperation, this research demonstrates that an implicit view of life as zero-sum can fundamentally alter one’s perceptions of social relationships, increasing one’s basic perception of hostility and preoccupation with dominance, and thereby increasing one’s willingness to use aggressive, anti-cooperative strategies. Furthermore, these results show how a zero-sum mindset erodes the trust needed to foster economic growth in times of stability as well the trust needed to weather times of crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our research suggests that zero-sum mindset impairs trust in at least two ways: by systematically leading individuals to be blind to the potential benefits of trust and cooperation, and by promoting an interpretation of others as potential rivals and threats rather than potential partners and collaborators. Solving humanity’s most urgent problems, such as climate change, poverty, prejudice, war, and disease, will require new levels of interpersonal, inter group and international cooperation—cooperation easily undermined by zero-sum mindset. Future research should continue to investigate the origins of zero-sum mindset, and how to foster a view of the world that can engender the future we wish to inhabit

Btw, this is how conservatives keep getting to claim that trans people are a new thing no one has ever heard, because our history and existences have continually been erased or obscured systematically through out history.
The most famous example was 92 years when the Nazis raided the library of the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, the medical practice where the term transsexual was first coined and the first gender affirming surgery was performed in in 1931.
What did the Nazis do after raiding the library on May 6th, 1933? You may be familiar with these images

hi hello how are you. most if not all story-based religions are in fact considered mythology by definition including the abrahamic religions. god is in fact abrahamic mythos whether you think he’s real or not. im sorry if that upsets you but im assuming this is regarding the post i just reblogged and i have to say im surprised the part you’re upset about is me tagging biblicalia as mythology and not the entire discussion on who tops in jesus/judas ship discourse

I'm not clear on the difference between a duvet and a comforter but anyway in Belgium we use double top sheets that enclose the duvet like a pillowcase encloses a pillow. And they get washed regularly together with the bottom sheet and the pillow cases. If using old-fashioned blankets we do use a regular top sheet but that style kind of went out of fashion 40 years ago here.
do you usually use a top sheet? (a thin flat sheet underneath a duvet, separating the person from it) (curious because it seems common in australia and europe but nonexistent in the usa)

Just a small reminder: you don't have to use any of it. Delete your SM and MS accounts. Go open source. Android compatible open source phones are for sale. MS compatible software for PC's exists including the full operation system. Do not use the google or MS app stores because that requires accounts but install apps through apk files. Use proton.mail or similar for your email. Use signal instead of whatsapp. Etcetera.
Just imagine what a populist president who couldn't give a shit about human rights or democracy and who is close buddies with the tech bros that own all your data could do with this. Just a hypothetical scenario, right?

The YED and Alastair were great consistently evil demon adversaries.
Meg and Rowena, well. Rowena started out so good, an evil witch with great dramatic flair that the boys occasionally were forced to work with. And then just because she got scared of Lucifer she supposedly saw the light and became an ally? She was murderously evil for 3 centuries, killing scores of people, and treated her own son like absolute dirt, but her conversion wasn't even about remorse for what she'd done, just about her realizing that great power wasn't going to make her happy after all.
Season 1-2 Meg was great, but they completely spoiled her character in season 7.
Remember when Supernstural used to give us antagonists that actually stayed antagonists, who existed to give Sam and Dean stakes on a smaller scale than just the “Season Boss”, and who weren’t just one-dimensional bad guys or didn’t wind up becoming friends with Sam and/or Dean?
Antagonists that actually remained adversariee, or at least didn’t defy their nature to become a doormat for the boys:
Bella - She irritated the hell out of me, but she also remained a pain in the boys’ asses until her contract came due. She served a purpose in messing things up for them.
Gordon - Sam’s self-appointed nemesis to the end. And you could actually understand his motives, if not agree with them.
Henriksen - He added actual stakes to the show beyond the supernatural threat. And the consequences of him “catching” Sam and Dean actually felt like it mattered at the time. While he did learn about the supernatural, he died before he could become an ally, but even if he had, it would have made sense (unlike monster besties).
Antagonists that the show “ruined” by turning them into allies or frienemies or neutered:
Crowley - he started off as a great antagonist. You could always rely on him to screw the guys over in some way, even when reluctantly working together. But by the end, he as just another simp for the Winchesters, even though they treated him like dirt (deserved TBH). He even director them.
Lucifer - From unnerving opponent and Season Big Bad to a whiny man-baby who fights with his daddy, didn’t feel properly threatening anymore, and just won’t go away.
Castiel - I know he went back and forth between Bally and adversaries times, but once he broke Sam’s he’ll walk and let out the leviathans, becoming a mutant angel who fancied himself as god. After this happened, that should have been it. Castiel should not have become a friend to them again because what he did was monster-level bad. Having him stuck around until the end was both painful in the biting shred plots that fans with him, and a disservice to what started out as a great character, only for him to become a depowered simp.
Feel free to pile on if you have any other ones that bugged you. Or characters you liked that stayed in their lane.

Thanks for explaining! It makes an awful sort of sense. You just made it even scarier but that is reality now. Just wanted to add that the fourth power, an independent press, is beyond essential in situations like these, and I'm guessing that part of the reason the dumpsterfire and his muskrat are so audacious now is that they know that the people who voted them in are not going to receive adequate information until it's far too late. Courage!
