Following the declaration of independence on this day 33 years ago, the All-Ukrainian referendum on Ukraine's independence took place in December 1991. To be independent is a conscious choice of the Ukrainian people. Happy Independence Day! Glory to Ukraine!

Putin's Folly
For all his intelligence and military training, Putin has misunderstood his strength. He believed, erroneously, that a small demonstration of violence would convince a free and sovereign nation to submit to his will. He believes himself an exception (an anomaly); that is, he believes he will be the first strongman/dictator in the history of the world to abuse his power freely and not be undone by it.
Everyone has the power to take life; yet no one has the power to give life. It is a lesson every dictator eventually has to learn.
Putin, like many before him (including Hitler), believes he alone can give life to a people zealously loyal to his vision of a free and happy society. He believes he has the answer to the meaning of life - and by it, that he is given the right to tell any other human being how to live his or her life (they/them) purposefully.
He has created so much bad blood, that in his absence (not that many years from now) Russia will fragment itself even more than any other time in history. All his fellow Russian strongmen will feel equally entitled to the throne - many of them will die tragic deaths trying to consolidate power - and none will succeed.
The result will be a full restoration of the Ukrainian territory and Russia partitioned into north and south, east and west.
The world will know yet again, that this story is as old as time - just ask the Romans, the Egyptians, the Persians, the Mayan, the Spanish, the British, etc.

Good morning: Recently destroyed Russian T-80BV, T-72B3, and 1 unknown tank; and, in next four pictures - Russian T-80 main battle tank, MT-LBVM/K armoured personnel carrier, another MT-LB and BMD-2 airborne infantry fighting vehicle, Ukraine, July, 2023. Source: Naalsio26
P.S. Photos of recent battles that the pro-Kremlin and "peace-loving" clickbait media will not show you....! The Ukrainian army, using rather limited resources and not the most modern weapons, is successfully waging war against the army of Russian war criminals... The Russians continue to suffer quite significant losses...

Today it's the 24th of August, Ukraine's day of independence. Today is a day of happiness, hope and celebration. Now why is it celebrated on this day?
There has been a few days where this has been celebrated, and I will briefly go through all of them.
First it was the 22nd of January. During the cold war, after Stepan Bandera's assassination, Ukrainian diasporas in the west encouraged Ukraine to have this day as their day of independence, since it marks the anniversary of the unification act. This had support among people and mayors, however didn't become an official day.
On the 17th of March, 1991, the only all union referendum in USSR's history was held on the union's preservation. As well as a poll in Ukraine asking: "Do you agree that Ukraine should be a member of the Union of Sovereign Republics on the basis of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine" to which 80% voted in favour. This led to three forms of the union state, and the drafting as well as adopting of a Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine.
On the 16th of July this was adopted, making that the independence day:
"Taking into account the will of the Ukrainian people and their eternal desire for independence,
confirming the historical significance of the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine on 16 July 1990,
the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic decides
To consider the day of 16 July as the Day of Proclamation of Independence of Ukraine and to celebrate it annually as a national holiday of Ukraine."
On 18 June 1991, Article 73 of the Labour Code of the Ukrainian SSR was amended, which resulted in the following entry in the list of public holidays: "16 July - Independence Day of Ukraine."
Then this declaration was adopted again, on the 24th of August, 1991, and confirmed by the people of the all-Ukrainian referendum, the date of the independence day had to be changed.
On the 20th of February, a resolution on the independence day of Ukraine, which states:
"Taking into account the will of the Ukrainian people and their eternal aspiration for independence,
reaffirming the historical significance of the adoption of the Act of Independence of Ukraine on 24 August 1991."
The independence day isn't celebrated much, people might go out and eat, hang out with friends, or not do much at all. There have been celebrations with traditional dancing, music, and clothes though.
A Ukrainian friend of mine said this: "Move away from the news, look at beautiful art, read shorter personal stories about things *__you__* care about, and remember that Ukrainians are *people*, not just your loud political headline."
Слава Україні

While building its own state, Ukraine has been moving step by step towards becoming a country governed by the rule of law. We must continue on this path to stand up to all threats and protect our independence and those who defend it.

Yesterday was the Day of the National Flag and today is the Independence Day of Ukraine.
Victory and peace to those of us who are alive on this day. Eternal glory to the heroes who died for us, our freedom and our home. We will not forget all those who have been killed. We will not forget who killed them, and we will never forgive it.
Be safe (as safe as you can be) and take care of yourself. Слава Україні.

Another view of crispy Russian Tor-M2DT surface-to-air missile system in Pishchane, Kherson region, Ukraine, 2023. Source: OSINTtechnical
P.S. The extremely rare and expensive to operate Russian 9A331MDT Tor-M2DT air defence system is intended for use in the Arctic. The appearance of such anti-aircraft missile systems designed for arctic conditions in southern Ukraine shows the Russians' difficulty in providing air defense and very poor military planning...
