Do you have any headcanons for what the AC6 characters' real names are?

For clarification's sake, I consider someone's "real name" to be their preferred name: that is, the name they introduce themselves as and prefer to be addressed by. I imagine what you're actually getting at with 'real name' is what we commonly call a 'legal name' which would appear on something like a hypothetical Arquebus-stamped passport. I call that their 'contract name' for various reasons I'll get into the weeds about below.

I like the severely dehumanising aspect of augmentation and to that end I think all augmented humans cease tor have common first name last name and have, instead, their designation as their contract name. That is: C4-621's name is C4-621. If they were Jean D'eau or Larry Foulke or Chad Assnoble before augmentation, that's irrelevant. They're C4-621 now, and whatever callsign they choose to adopt. Referring to an Augmented Human by their old contract name lies somewhere on the spectrum of rude to disrespectful to faux pas, unless you've got a family name powerful enough to come before an augmentation contract. But those are rare.

(This is why names as callsigns are common among independents: because most people have no strong feelings about their contract name. It just makes sense to be called what you're called.)

So, for people like Carla, both her contract name and preferred name are Carla [Family Name]. I haven't thought too hard on family names for Walter, but there's the commonish headcanon of Nagai as his family name that I see as plausible enough so let's run with that. Not because his contract name is Walter Nagai but because I think he'd use Nagai in honour of the man who sparked the Fires. We know he's got daddy issues. C'mon, he haaaaaates his father. He'd never use that name willingly.

Everything else is under the cut! I only put in the people I have clear inspiration for right now but I'll probably write on others later.

Independents

621's contract name and preferred name are C4-621. Their route to augmentation was highly privileged and as a result they have a much more positive view of gen four than most of their peers and use the designation with pride.

King's contract name is Arthur or Alberich or Malik or Melech or Minos or Rex or Richard or Iskandar or Ulrich or something. It means King. It's a pun, and he's full of himself, get it?

Chartreuse's preferred name is Chartreuse. As an independent who can pick what she's called, it makes sense she'd make her callsign match her preferred name. It also means her nickname is Char, who is someone many of my followers seem very normal about, and that amuses me.

RaD

Given the chaotic nature of the Doser factions and Carla's hands-off approach to her cover op, I think RaD is more of a net for contractless (and therefore stateless) Rubiconians. Most RaD members just take their callsigns as their contract and preferred names.

Except for Chatty. Chatty's just Chatty. AIs don't have contracts and therefore don't have rights. Sorry!

Vespers

Freud's contract name is something long and unpronounceably Dutch. It's his preferred name too, though the annoyingly glottal nature of his native tongue means he usually shortens it to J in non-work environments.

Snail's contract name is his augmented human designation 0812 134 460 FE. His preferred name is a noble, elegant, high class, kirakira ass corporate name he invented himself.

As an augmented human two times over with an uncountable number of cover identities, I think O'Keeffe goes through names like lighters. Once, as part of a sufficiently powerful Cererian family, he was one of the few augmented humans to keep their family contract (and therefore his family name) alongside his augmentation contract. It's an embarrassingly old-fashioned, extremely patriotic name that makes him cringe to think about, and honestly was a little relieved when he was cut out of the family contract and fully became C2-030. Now he's 0919 057 311 TN to Arquebus and has no preferred names, just contextual ones.

After augmentation, Rusty's contract name is his augmented human designation, 0842 108 258 BA. But his preferred name is his previous contract name. I know it's Japanese at its base, but can't decide whether it's a wholesome everyname, a cliche shonen protagonist name befitting of his role in the game, or some noble, elegant, high class, kirakira ass corporate name his bootlicking parents bestowed upon him. I also sometimes just call him Mifune.

Redguns

Michigan's preferred name is Michigan and has been ever since his days in Furlong. Is that his given name or his callsign? Yes. His contract name is his augmentation designation, C1-141. But don't call him that.

Nile's got the most red, white, and Balamite blue name you can think of for his preferred name.

Wu Huahai has a sexy, powerful, businesslike preferred name. He and Snail should swap notes.

Red would call himself Michigan Jr if Michigan would allow it.

RLF

Flatwell's contract name is an embarrassingly old-fashioned, extremely patriotic name that makes him cringe to think about, and he was a little relieved when Dolmayan enforced callsigns on a more permanent basis. I think he'd consider his preferred name Flatwell. Or General Flatwell.

While I do find it funny that henchmen in Gotham probably warn each other about the Red Hood because he's a bat who will actually kill you. I think it would be better if Jason was actually seen as some sort of savior or idol to like 90% of the goons scattered around Gotham. Doesn't matter who they work for, they all know Jason, former crime-lord that took over majority of Gotham's underground in one night.

thinking about jeremy hitting rock bottom his freshman year, losing so much in one disastrous night, the repercussions of which would continue to haunt him for years. thinking about jeremy spiralling so bad cody said they “really thought we were going to lose him for a while there.” cat saying the right therapist can be “life changing”, using jeremy as an example. thinking about how bad jeremy’s crash out must have been, understandably; thinking about his family continuing to blame him for noah’s death—from the coldness of annalise, to the outright antagonism of bryson, to joshua ignoring him for years. the wilshires doing everything in their power to cover up what happened at the banquet rather than lending an ounce of support to a boy who had lost his brother in terrible circumstances, because jeremy was there, because it was so much easier to blame him for all of it. coldblooded, if you ask me. jeremy needed help, not damage control.

thinking about jeremy having probably the worst year of his life, having the opposite of emotional support from his family, and still somehow coming out of it a better person. thinking of all the work he put in to be better and succeeding—i’d rather die than ever be that person again. believe me. despite the hostility of his family system, despite being blamed for the fallout, despite the guilt and heartbreak that��“nearly destroyed him”. still jeremy managed to build a new life for himself out of the wreckage, going so far as to be captain of the trojans, with a team who respect and admire him. still he managed to come out of it with such a capacity for kindness and goodness and lifting the people around him up.

thinking about jeremy continuing to be the human embodiment of sunshine despite living in such a cold home that was never forgiving or warm to him. jeremy knox, you will always be loved by me.

the theme was 'relationships' and i wanted to try and include as many details between these characters as i could :

Branch, as the man that everyone can rally behind.

Poppy as the first one to notice Branch's struggle and offer him help.

Likewise, the first person Poppy thinks to call on is her sister :3

Then it's Viva calling out to her long time co-runner Clay, and Bruce jumping in for him too.

Clay's addition also introduces a 🎉new strategy🎉! The characters start alternating sides for pulling the rope.

And Floyd joining in changes the strategy again, to something a bit more... mischievous, shall we say.

One crucial aspect is that Floyd runs his idea by Branch (the man in charge) before going for it.

Hickory, for his part, doesn't pull his punches for the group. There's no ~tricking~ them by faking an early loss, it's all gotta be genuine.

And of course, Hickory's undoing is his tender heart.

In the back, Dickory and John banter over which side they want to win.

Just the fact that John is letting go of the reins here, allowing the group to lead themselves, is very Big for him.

Dickory's suspicion of what Floyd has planned (warranted).

John's sitting out because he's got a cast on his arm, but it's been "signed" by various stickers from the group (yellow star from viva, pink heart from poppy, green lightning bolt from clay, etc etc etc). and of course

it really does bother me how no one can seem to answer the question “what even is romantic attraction, really.” like some people are like “it’s who you wanna kiss and cuddle <3” and I’m like ok well kisses and cuddles can be either sexual or platonic depending on context. “It’s who you feel passion/desire/arousal for” well that just sounds like sexual attraction which you can have without even knowing somebody so I fail to see how that’s romantic. “It’s who you want to go on dates with” I go on dates with friends all the time plus “date” is a social construct anyway there’s really no innate difference between a date and hanging out. “it’s who you have deep feelings for” great news for you that can be literally any type of relationship. my friend told me she defined it as “who you wanna give roses to” and I’m like do u hear urself??? like the more I talk to people the more I’m convinced romance and romantic attraction is an elaborate socially fabricated illusion that has no real defining characteristics. and like there’s nothing Wrong with it being a constuct but why people are so attached to defending the supremacy of it is something I cannot for the life of me figure out

So, there must be a ton of people thirsting over him on the internet. Fancams, edits, fanfics and imagines ("kidnapped with Bruce Wayne 😍 by a Gotham rogue"), the whole charade!

And anytime one of the batkids stumbles on a thirst post, they have the most dramatic disgusted reaction, loudly gagging, before sending the link to the batkids chat, because if they must suffer, then they should all suffer. Clicking on a link in this groupchat is like playing russian roulette, and getting rickrolled is a good ending.
