If you’re engaging with a story constructed on a more mythical level. And you have to twist a character into something more mundane to justify hating them or liking them. You don’t hate or like the character. You just don’t know how to engage with them as-written and you’re projecting something familiar to avoid the discomfort.

laios and kabru being very explicit narrative and character foils of each other means you're primed to expect some extent of honesty and candor from laios at every turn throughout, even if it's to negative effect, while your impression of kabru means you expect his every action and word to bely ulterior motive or manipulation, even if it's out of good intentions. and how thoroughly this is subverted in the end, when kabru is forced by pressure and circumstance into painfully, awkwardly honest confession and conduct, forced to stand back and spectate instead of trying to pull strings and control. and laios rises up out of nowhere with an underhanded scheme so shocking and thorough it tricks everyone, and suspends them into inaction and speechless disbelief, clearing his path to the throne. i just think it's neat how they're foils and opposites until they embody each other's core traits at some of their most pivotal developmental moments
#idk if i was the only one but i initially assumed kabru was introduced like that so the two would have some sort of race to the throne#not even because i thought kabru was underhanded i just thought that's what she was setting up with their two opposed parties#with the same common goal but vastly different ways of going about it and clashing personalities#i really thought the narrative subversion would be priming us for golden chosen one laios all along and then kabru swooping in at the end#but instead it was indeed laios in the end yet with no shortage of surprises and satisfaction imo#i like it a lot more this way for both of them. kabru suits a quieter background role where his communicative skills take center stage#and laios has the kind of simplicity and humility that means he can be guided by his people and court on matters beyond his reckoning#rather than centering his own and risking tyrannical or apathetic leadership#thus kabru gets what he wanted all along. gets to have his say and opinion. to represent humanity's needs and see to them all#and have a king who is kind and learning to communicate with and understand his populace and those around him#dungeon meshi#laios#kabru

one thing about me is that i love music and i listen to it all the time but i dont know a single thing about the members of the bands that i listen to. i might have seen pictures of a few of them, maybe know a few of their names. but like if there are multiple people in a band that sing? i can not tell you who sings what. i'm like totally blind to being able to identify who is singing/speaking if audio is not narratively driven i think.

one of my coworkers is trying to convince me to do another color guard season
but i graduate in the middle of competition season and the practices conflict with my school schedule so i really cant this year. but theyre doing a workshop to get people ready for auditions and a lot of people go to those even if they dont plan on auditioning so idk......id have to get my equipment out of storage and spend time stretching so i dont look crazy in front of one of the only coworkers i talk to
#its with the group i was with before covid too auuuuuuu.........i might go to the clinic but of course its while i have school#but im fine with missing one day if it means i can get closure with this sport bc the last time i ever spun was right before covid#i did spin here and there with some friends after lockdown 'ended' but i havent been in a proper color guard setting#what if its in the same gym as before too omg.....the head coach is different but idk about any of the other coaches#hmm. i think it would be good to go to it and im sure i will but man. it was such a major part of my life and i havent done it in so long#and i used to be so good at it. most of those skills are probably gone 😭 idk I'll go but idk how I'll feel during it i think thats what im#hung up on. but two of my coworkers are gonna be there so idk! maybe i can show off and then they'll tell everyone im actually cool

electra's design is so difficult to me because I want her to be as visually strong as the other competitors but I also want to prioritize speed, lightweightness, and agility with her design (as opposed to greaseball's bulk and blunt strength) and the correct combination of equal strength and nimbleness is hard to achieve for me
#i hate to say this but im playing with the concept of making her short?#like electra being super tall is one of my favorite traits....#but i think tall/wide/beefy greaseball vs. light/nimble/small electra may be the most interesting juxtaposition between antagonists#that way rusty actually has two vastly different opponents who are equal in skill instead of two vaguely similairly-built ones#aughhhhh i dont know#i'm word vomiting bc idk who to tell this to#rambles#i think if rusty has to actually work against two different sets of skills instead of the same skills across two characters its more-#challenging and interesting (although there isn't really time in a musical to explore that)#idk. idk.
