What You Shall Do
Foeslayer/Hope & Marrow (OC) Read on AO3
Hope is old, and she doesn’t want to rule the new Kingdom of Night forever.
Luckily, she’s devised a plan. All she has to do is get it across.
Hope sighed through her nose, staring out through one of her chamber’s vast windows at what had been her kingdom, centuries ago. A trio of dragonets, no more than two years old, tackle and tumble over each other not far from the palace walls. Within the courtyard, a pale green NightWing (Radiance, to go by her large stature and how her hair was braided) passed an IceWing hybrid (Frozenlight, from their slicked-back white hair and abundance of freckles over their darker markings). One of Radiance’s wings twitched, only perceptible because Hope had long learned what she was looking for. She, like her citizens, had been weary of the hybrid in their midst at first, but they’d put in more than enough work to demonstrate that they were nothing like Hope’s own dragonets.
Put that thought away. That was then; this is now.
The sound of talons rapping on her door drew her from her musings. The one she’d called upon moved a bit slower these days, and yet here she was, punctual as ever. This is when her work begins.
“Enter,” she called, not turning. The door was drawn open, making no sound but unsettling the room’s air, and then closed with a subtle click. The action was accompanied by the tapping of light talons, assuring her that this was the dragon she had called for.
“You wanted to see me, Queen Hope?” the newcomer asked, her voice retaining a slight graveling quality like much of her modern tribe. Hope could count on one hand the number of NightWings she’d met since her release with voices that didn’t bear a permanent growl, all of whom had been raised away from the volcanic island of their “kingdom.”
“Sit down, Princess Marrow,” the Queen instructed, testing the title and how it rolled off her tongue.
She could tell when Marrow didn’t move, instead responding, “Princess–?”
So, this was how it was going to be. Fine – if Queen Clairvoyance had sprung such a thing on her, her reaction would’ve been similar – but Queen Clairvoyance died with Foeslayer.
“I don’t intend to rule forever. Moons know, I’ve lived long enough,” she cut in, “but this kingdom needs someone to get it off the ground if we ever want to return to our former glory.”
As soon as she said it, her mind flitted to the young RainWing she’d met with multiple times, barely going on fifteen years old and yet already leading a tribe and a half alongside a former assassin. Hope had lived through much political turmoil among the old NightWings, and had received a first-hand crash course into the realm of IceWing royals, but Queen Glory was a beast all her own, and an impressive one at that. “No pun intended,” Hope muttered.
Finally, the queen turned, facing Marrow– Princess Marrow. The NightWing was thin, her body never having properly recovered from life on the volcanic island she’d been told her tribe had inhabited since her son’s temporary defeat. Her scales were nearly black with a tint of red, and she was crowned by a striking white tuft of hair and long, waving horns.
“Here is what you shall do. I will name you my heir tomorrow at midnight. You are not going to be considered my daughter, but you will be my successor, and your partners your consorts.”
Princess Marrow haphazardly schooled her expression from surprise back to a feigned neutrality, a rare slip-up, though one of many recently, while no other part of her body even flinched. “P-partners?” she stuttered. “I don’t know what you mean, Your Majesty.”
Hope smirked in amusement, as however good her heir typically was at lying, she couldn’t stop the blood from rushing to her ears. Wishing to calm her, the queen let on, “Radiance is subtle about your relationship with Frozenlight, and she knows how to evade rumors. You, not so much.”
When her heir gave a tight nod, she continued, “Your subjects will learn to respect them, because if we are to survive, we need to start moving past the other tribes’ biases. Frozenlight is half NightWing, and they have proven their loyalty to our tribe time and time again. Therefore, they are one of us.
“Once the kingdom is stable, and we have reason to believe that it will continue to be stable, you will challenge me. You will do so publicly.”
Hope’s eyes seemed to bore into the smaller NightWing’s very soul, but she continued regardless. “We will fake my death. I will leave this kingdom, and I will find my own peace. But you will always be able to find me, and I will be able to advise you, ensuring our kingdom’s downfall will not be a result of either of us.”
The following pause was long and painful. She let Princess Marrow search for a response, waited patiently as she started and stopped a few different sentences, and nearly sighed in relief when she finally got something out, rather than making Hope wait up all day.
“I don’t understand, My Queen. Why me? Why not one of your descendants? Surely they’re here somewhere.”
To say she had doubted they’d end up here would be a lie, but she had wanted to believe that she would be able to get through to her heir easier. After all, Hope thought her a smart one, more so than many of her peers. “I don’t care for blood, Princess Marrow,” she replied, “and drop the title. I’m not a queen, I’m only your regent.
“Then, once you feel you’ve run your course as queen, you will peacefully pass down your throne to your dragonet—”
“I’m not—” Princess Marrow tried to cut in, but Hope only chuckled.
“Dear, I can tell when a NightWing is egg-bound. You’re paranoid and overly vigilant, and avoid speaking to those outside of your circle like they’re—”
Her heir was staring at her, the slighted glint of threatening malice in her gaze. They both knew where Hope had been leading, but that stare made her words tangle in her throat. Another reason why she’d elected Marrow for this position over the rest of her once-son’s followers.
     “You understand what I mean.”
Princess Marrow’s nod was a curt one, Hope’s slip not to be easily forgotten.
“When you wish to retire, you will pass the throne down to your dragonet without combat. I don’t care if it is a daughter or son or something else entirely, you will not fight. You will give them the throne, you will advise them as I will you, only you will be public about it.
“Or,” and she had to force the memories of Darkstalker, of receiving the news of the Royal SeaWing Massacre, of all those centuries of bloody IceWing politics from her mind, “if you do not deem them fit to rule, you will give the throne to someone else entirely. Regardless, you will ensure our tribe has a monarch fit for the role. Do you understand, Princess Marrow?”
This pause too was tense, but in a different way. A much more calculating way, as Princess Marrow seemed to hunt her expression for any sign of a facade, only to find none. Every cryptic, she countered with a challenge of her own, though this one brought a smile to Hope’s face.
“What made you decide to put this much trust in me? I could kill you in the arena. I could make it real. What makes you believe that I won’t?”
“Because you would regret it. You would become like every other queen, wishing at some point or another that your predecessor would return no matter your feelings about her. And I know that you will recognize that, and that you will make the rest of the continent recognize that.
“So, I ask again: do you understand, Princess Marrow, Heir to the MoonWing Throne, Successor of Queen Hope, Partner of Princess Consorts Radiance and Frozenlight?”
A rare and infectious smirk crossed the smaller NightWing’s face. “I understand, Queen Hope.”
     “Then let our work begin.”

I was just thinking, what if Pearl or Coral (or both) end up with one of Jamil or Riddle's kids??
Like they are at NRC (now Co-ed after Yuu or maybe a co-ed equivalent) and fall for their own Goldfishie and Sea Snake! They end up in a relationship woth them and when Family day comes around, Riddle and Jamil finally meet Coral and Pearl, there is something oddly familiar about them.... then in the background like the Jaws theme:
"GOOOLDFISHIEEEEEE! SEA SNAKE!!!"
"Hehehehe~ isn't this a suprise?"
"It certainly is,"
Jamil and Riddle:
Tumblr media
*They can never escape*
I think it would be funnier if one twin each got with a child of Riddle and a child of Jamil. For either one, it's like a nightmare brought to life.
They thought they escaped the trio back in their NRC years. As much as they could with you being their friend and thus their spouse, but still.
Their kid is telling them all about their new girlfriend, how fun they are, how smart, how cool etc etc. Maybe they offhandledly mention her name is Coral/Pearl, but it's probably just a coincidence that her name is the same as your kids. Then they mention that she's a mermaid...another coincidence, surely...
Family Day at NRC comes and both are surprised that their kids are dating siblings, but don't think much of it and greet the girls warmly.
When they finally meet twins, they both look remarkably familiar...too familiar...and a shiver goes down their spines.
"Sea Snake! Goldfishie! I didn't know you'd be our new in-laws! :D"
Oh god no.

More thoughts about that psychic connection.
I know I've talked about the "psychic connection" between Lydia and Betelgeuse before, but since I'm a sucker for such soulmate links between characters, I thought I'd write a little more.
It's all speculative, and that might have been just a fun line for Betelgeuse to say there, adding to how hopelessly in love the poor guy is with Lydia. But what if they do share a connection?
In this post I want to speculate a little about how this connection formed between them, and when, and what it may mean.
If there is such a connection between them, I think it formed after their wedding in the first movie. Hear me out, the ceremony was basically complete; they just needed to be pronounced husband and wife, when Barbara showed up with the sand worm. So I believe there was a soul link between them that was being formed that night, which remains, although half-formed, until this day.
This ritual would have made it possible for Betelgeuse to have free access to the world of the living, so whatever metaphysical mumbo jumbo was going on there, it was powerful enough to bridge the world of the living and the world of the dead for Betelgeuse to cross from the latter to the former in full power (assuming he'd keep his ghostly powers upon gaining access to the world of the living; he might just become a regular guy, who knows. Still, restoring his body so he can walk as a living man again must require a lot of power).
When the ritual was only a step away from being finalized, it just left that link between Betelgeuse and Lydia which he eventually realized he could use to watch her from afar and try to reconnect with her. Call it a residual of sorts that was left when they were almost married the first time.
It may have only been possible for that link to remain or even form in the first place due to Lydia's own ability to see and communicate with ghosts, though.
As a matter of fact, as I mentioned before (because we all know how I'm a sucker for all the soulmate stuff lol), it may even be Lydia keeping that link between them alive, or even making it possible for it to exist. I have this headcanon that subconsciously she keeps calling him and allowing his presence around her all the time. She may sense a bond with him that she's currently unable to consciously notice. Betelgeuse feels the same bond and openly embraces it; he's an ancient, powerful soul, so he can see how the two of them are just meant to be together. But yes, I already totally talked about this in the other post.
More headcanon stuff: At the end of the sequel, when Betelgeuse shows up in Lydia's bed (and possibly in her nightmare, too, unless they were sharing the same dream), that it might've been Lydia's subconscious calling him right back to her after she banished him. There's a part of her that never wanted him gone. We can see how her face looks conflicted right after she sent Betelgeuse away. We can also see how her face went from scared and disgusted, to confused and surprised while they danced during the wedding scene. Lydia's heart was no doubt swayed, but she's struggling to come to terms with it. (You can clearly see how she's thinking "what the heck it was for real? This guy really loves me??" I totally didn't notice that the first time I watched that scene).
Anyway I'll leave this one up to here, lest I start repeating my points from the previous post (which I'm already doing, oops lol).
My Tl;dr for this post: Their psychic connection might have formed right after the first wedding, due to it being almost finalized. A link was formed and remained between their souls. Lydia might be keeping that link alive and calling Betelgeuse right back to her, subconsciously.

OHH okay Lilia accidentally or purposely killing some kind of bug in the house and Silver cries because the bug was his friend…
six sentence story prompt ! (that end up over six sentences lmao)
the ladybug had fast become one of silver's constant little companions; more often than not, lilia would spot the tiny creature nestled innocently within those silken locks or sunning itself on the back of his hand while the boy napped, basking in the warmth of the springtime.
"five spots," silver had informed him with the solemn expression of one imparting worldly secrets as the ladybug scampered over his gentle fingertips that were raised for his father's inspection. lilia had fought to keep an intrigued face despite the creep of an amused smile tugging at his lips, so terribly enchanted by this child that spoke with the gravity of fae fifty times his senior. "five like me, papa!"
so it was quite clear by that enamored declaration that the ladybug would become as permanent a fixture within their little family as a ladybug could be— silver cooing good morning at it as the tiny insect perched on a pincushion atop their bedside table and fluttered its wings in cheerful response— and surely that was what the ladybug itself had intended . . . until it had run afoul of lilia's cooking.
"alas, yet another unfortunate vic—soul," malleus hastily corrects himself under the withering and suspicious glare that lilia tosses his way as they stand (himself with a wailing toddler clinging to his knees, his prince with royal dignity and a proffered handkerchief) before the makeshift, clumsily made grave marking the final resting place of one, terminally loyal ladybug.
"remind me, how did this— ahem— terrible tragedy occur? if i recall from my studies, although thin on such miniscule creatures, not a single treatise mentioned that these— ladybugs, was it? curious name, humans are quite determined on personifying even the most insignificant of lifeforms— were ever recorded performing self-sacrificial acts."
while there had been plenty of sympathy shown to the sobbing child between them, there is no mistaking the cheekiness threatening to break free of malleus' sonorous voice. lilia merely lifts his lip in the faintest derisive curl before kneeling down to comfort his all too empathetic son as silver sniffles miserably and the wildflower bouquet in his hands wilts as if in shared grief.
"there, there, dear," he consoles the boy, a hand rubbing soothingly against his back. "it was a very brave ladybug, all the way to the end," even if it was a fairly stupid one, but such thoughts he keeps to himself, unsuccessfully if malleus' invisible grin is anything to go by. but what else should he call it, why would any sane creature twitter its wings in a manner that could only be called desperate as silver had begun to raise his father's latest concoction to his lips, only to dive-bomb into his spoon and thus ruin the healthy meal that lilia had so painstakingly crafted for his son by seizing up and perishing with such ingratitude?!
perhaps he ought to keep a better eye on silver's woodland friends— they've begun to strangely gather around the kitchen window at dinnertime lately . . .

So. It seems today's the day. The day that everything was meant to fall apart. It was exactly as you feared, and yet so different.
It started slowly, with a few people acting strangely, not coming into class. A few people were talking among others about coming to the cafeteria for an announcement.
Then by the time you realized, it was too late. Most of the housemaidens had fallen under the control of 'The Empress', and they were opening the doors and letting her in. Your… roommate and the Head Housemaiden (whom you had been getting far too close to) had both been the last two to be hit with the curse.
And of course The Universe decided that you must be the last one left, the one to be given Siffrin's The Head Housemaiden's blessing, the one to be immune to the curse, the one to make it out, the one to start this pointless reboot of this overdone quest all to satisfy some divine kicks because you hadn't been punished enough.
Stars. Hadn't you been punished enough? Why wouldn't The Universe just let this be the end? Why carry this ridiculous show on?
Well. At least this is a show you have seen before. Onward to Jouvente. Onward to meet the understudythat replaced your fighter. Get up Siffrin. The show must go on.
@cordysys I done did it! Yippee! Dancing cat gif!

Tfgraves is one of those ships that, on a very surface level, looks very domestic and kinda fluffy like haha bickering cowboy pirate gay people who are in love but also stupid haha, AND THEN YOU READ THEIR ACTUAL LORE AND BACKSTORY AND ITS JUST
Tumblr media
Don't get me wrong, I love them, and they are surprisingly pretty functional despite everything that happened, but if I start thinking too hard about their "divorce era" (it's not technically a divorce era if they weren't technically dating but i dont care, being divorced is based on vibes/hj), I get a little insane about it

I like to say I just adore your art so much it inspires me to just draw TFGraves more myself. (Been to shy to say anything lol)
I'd like to just throw in a small lil hc over TF and Graves that I just personally thought up.
I'd like to imagine that anytime Graves does something wild or just him being him. TF would be the type of "Everything you do- I just keep being reminded why I love you".
Just a lip personal funny to think about for wholesomeness✨
AAJDHEJKSK🥺🥺 Thank you so much!!! i'm super happy to hear that, fr!! It's still strange knowing that i inspire someone, like, it's a lot to take in, but in a good way
AND YEAH, ITS BASICALLY CANON!! and I want to add something else: Malcolm Graves is the only person capable of taking T.F. off track, the only person who destabilizes him. Graves' chaotic and unpredictable nature conflicts with Tobias' rational and cowardly nature. I think it makes him feel alive as a whole. T.F. whenever he finds something that prevents him from following a plan, he runs away, but with Graves it's different, running away made T.F. lose him, and it was one of his worst regrets.
Graves affects him in ways where his whole pose as the best gambler in the world falls apart with any gesture of his, and Graves knows this in a somewhat mild way, he thinks it affects T.F. just knowing him.
But we just have to see how TF goes from 0 to 100 emotionally when Graves says or does anything. He can't contain his irritation, jealousy, concern or when Graves affected him simply saying his name in that scene on the Butcher's Bridge where there was CLEARLY a romantic tension.
So we can say that Graves is Twisted Fate's biggest weakness.

WRITEBLR INTRO
Hello from the voids of Fate! My name is Francis Ravel. I am a writer of every genre and style, and it is my personal goal to create so many tales that people begin to think I was divinely cursed to be mad or terrifyingly in control.
I have *backstory*, but if anything, it has made me absolutely set in my goal to change the world for the better. It is my sincerest wish to make art that will inspire those who have gone through similar things to persevere, and learn to love to live, so that one day I in turn will get to hear their story.
My current WIP, which will most likely be my main work for the next 20 years, is entitled Night Myths and Day Mares. Book one is available now, and Book two is well on its way to being completed.
I hope every writer, would be writer, hopeful writer, or person who wishes to one day put pen to paper will reach out. I can't wait to see the worlds you've created, and I hope you will allow me to give you a tour through my creations.
