wanted to save this post for until i got to a safe place, but now that i am, i can give y'all a reason why i didn't post much if at all.

its mostly because of my family.

on a scale from 1-10 (10 being the worst, 1 being the best) my mom and dad are 10, most of my dad's side of the family is like, 9.5 outside of grandma n pa. they are like an 8 or 7 depending on how pissy/petty i feel about them. my brother is like, 4. and my sister is the only one whose normal about everything so she's a 1.

the reason my mom n dad are so highly rated is because my mom would lowkey ghost me for the entire summer when school stopped, and my dad is, well, according to mom- "he never takes no as an answer."

makes me think about why i always gravitated towards noncon fanfics for wilson/maxwell. Im still working on that.

grandma n pa are 8 because my grandma defends my dad (and pretty much any violent male member of the family) and my grandpa WAVED A FUCKING LOADED GUN IN MY FACE on the day of the move. if his hand was NOT on the trigger, he could've shot me in any part of my body including my head

my brother is a 4 because he hasn't apologized for beating the shit out of me almost every day until i was 16, but he's gotten a lot better at controlling his anger.

my sister was the only one who realized that the only way she was going to stay in my life was being cautious, but also realizing why i wanted out so bad, since she went through most of this herself.

outside of that, i hid most of my art from my family because i could NOT handle the disappointment that my family would show if that their "adorable daughter" drew a guy ripping his face off, or drawing porn (tho that wasnt until years later, obviously.) thats why most of my art is violent or violent in nature. its what i grew up in. constant fights all the time. cps was called a few times but they didnt do anything outside of adding to the trauma pile

im tired and finally in a safe environment where i wont be threatened to be shipped off my dad's place, which, if that was to happen... I'd lose all of my support network, including doctors and psychiatrists. I'd be completely shut off from the outside world, including my boyfriend and friends on discord. in his mind, the internet is the reason i have such high needs, instead of, y'know, THE 'TISM.

as for my past, i have gone by "noonfish" or some variation of that on tumblr, but that was while i was stuck somewhere in the alt-right rabbit hole on yt since most of my family loves trump, which is why i nuked all of them. I am deeply ashamed of my past and i'm still working on it, i know i can be better tomorrow than i was today. If i had a nickel for every time my grandma defended a rapist, I'd have three nickels, which isnt a lot but its weird it happened with three people.

i understand if people also stop following for my previous "ties" to the alt right (i was pretty surface level, mainly memes), however i was like, what, 16? and extremely isolated to boot. Thank fuck i got anti-psychotics. i was losing my mind for YEARS due to undiagnosed schizo-affective disorder, which was in play since i was 8. I still remember the time i missed my bus going home from school in elementary school, and when my mom had me in the car, she drove into a parking space and proceeded to yell at me to stop telling the teachers because "i was scaring them" because i kept seeing shadow people in the hallways. all the doctors just assumed I was being racist or something? im not sure about that but the only thing that came out of that was me getting glasses (which, tbh i did in fact, need)

after that, it went lowkey until middle/high school, where it resurfaced again and will continue until i fucking die, so thats fun. if I didn't have schizo-affective disorder, i probably still would've fallen for the alt-right pipeline on yt when i was a child (because of unsupervised access to the internet), but at least i'd be able to make a coherent statement about it. i still hate all those people that helped make my mental illness worse to the point i thought only ohio existed for like, 6 months. shit was awful.

so yeah, thats why i've been so on n off. hope to get some art soon since its about time i should do a full render. maybe it will be two girls kissing.

To my fellow US Americans: If you are planning on arming yourselves because of the election results and what might be on the horizons, I urge you to be a responsible gun owner.

Take as many classes as you can. Get certified in gun safety, even if it's not required to own a gun in your state. Get a gun safe. A good gun safe. Lock your gun up. Don't leave it armed. Don't wave your guns or gun-owning status around and don't pose with guns like they're toys. I'd say not to make gun buying an impulse purchase, either. You are investing in something that holds great potential risk to yourself and others - treat it like a responsibility.

I'm not here to argue about if Americans ought to exercise the second amendment in the way it currently exists. That's not the point - we have always had the second amendment, and I doubt it's going anywhere. I am more interested in making sure we don't see a surge in accidental, negligent gun ownership.

As a queer person in the US, I can understand the mindset behind people's spiked interest in arming themselves. I'm not arguing against that. As a child of gun owners, I know just how huge a responsibility it is to own a gun, and I hate the general attitude we Americans have about guns. Please don't contribute to that. If you own a gun, it is you inherent responsibility to take care of that gun (which is why I can't own a gun yet - I don't have the resources to pour into proper ownership).

Honestly, following the election results, I’d suggest for anyone who is explicitly NOT at risk of self harm or erratic behavior to get a gun, primarily POC, disabled folks and LGBTQ+ people.

I know a lot of you are pro-gun control, and so am I, but if there’s ever been a risk to your personal safety, it may very well be needed.

During the Civil Rights Movement, the Black Panther Party explicitly armed themselves to protect their marginalized communities; nothing is stopping you from protecting yourself or your loved ones if it comes down to it. I hope it doesn’t, but you never know.

I know it seems extreme. But if bigots are willing to get violent with us, we must have the means to defend ourselves. We have to play at their game. And if they get to use guns, then it’s a tool available to us.

Do not be irresponsible with them. You don’t need an AK47. Guns are not toys, they are deadly weapons. Take a gun safety course. Get a license so no one can take it from you (America is pretty lenient with that stuff, but you will be scrutinized more for an unlicensed firearm if you are marginalized).

sometimes I forget that not everyone has been raised around guns and therefore not everyone knows the basic gun safety rules??? just saw a post about a character trained in firearms holding a gun during a heated argument and accidentally shooting the person he was arguing with point-blank in the chest and I had to put my phone down and take a little break and redirect my indignation into something helpful so for fic writers who've never fired, held, or been around guns! here are some gun safety basics that any character who was taught how to use a gun would almost definitely know

in firearm safety classes the first thing they teach you (if they're any good) is to Keep Your Finger Off The Damn Trigger Unless You're Firing. when holding the gun, unholstering it, holstering it, loading it, picking it up, putting it down, whatever, you don't touch the trigger. I've never used anything larger than a .9mm but I usually put my pointer finger up slightly so it rests along the barrel when I'm not firing. this is so that you don't accidentally or instinctively fire the gun when you don't intend to. if your finger is not on the trigger, you can't fire the gun.

the second thing they'll tell you is twofold so I'll split it up. the gun is ALWAYS loaded. more specifically, that you should treat every gun as if there is a live round currently in the chamber. even if you just checked and you know it's not! the gun is always loaded. if you treat every gun like it's loaded, you won't do stupid shit with it. you don't pick it up until you're ready to use it.

the other part of that is you never point a gun at something you aren't prepared to destroy. not just kill, but destroy. because even if you're following the first two rules, sometimes shit happens. and if a bullet comes out of the barrel it's not like you can stop it. even setting guns down, you keep them pointed away from you and others. you hand guns to people pointing down, or forward if there's nothing in front of you. you don't wave a gun around willy-nilly. you definitely don't point it at people unless you are okay with said people having fatal holes in them.

this is definitely not an exhaustive list of gun safety rules; I've been to firearm safety classes and handled guns for a while, so while I do have some knowledge, I'm definitely not an expert. if people with more specific information want to share (especially on things like shotguns and rifles, which I know have more specific rules) please do!

The federal government says it wants the RCMP to ban the use of two crowd-control tools that forces across the country say they have in their arsenals: sponge rounds and CS gas.

Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino’s office confirmed that it wants the measures outlawed, even as the RCMP declines to say whether or not it will comply with that instruction.

The decision to restrict even the use of “less lethal” alternatives to crowd-control tools such as rubber bullets and stronger forms of tear gas has some critics questioning whether the federal Liberals are playing politics with policing. [...]

The confirmation that the federal Liberals want the tools banned comes after The Canadian Press raised questions about a mandate letter Mendicino gave to RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki last year.

The letter directed the force to stop using three use-of-force methods: the “carotid control” neck hold, rubber bullets and tear gas.

The RCMP made headlines recently when it confirmed that it still allows officers to use the controversial neck hold despite those instructions and the fact that other police forces have stopped using it. [...]

The RCMP said in a statement that it is “working with partners, stakeholders and bargaining agents” to review the mandate letter _ and gave no indication that it intends to follow Mendicino’s orders. [...]

Out of all ways to spend a sunset, checking flintlocks upon the Death Valley Queen was never one Martyn expected. Of every way to spend an evening, staying aboard a different ship was never one Martyn wanted. And out of every way to spend a day, planning an attack with the “Seven Deadly Sins” was never one Martyn even considered.

Scar is next to him repairing any pistols with damage to them, helping keep them in check. And soon it’ll be dinner, and after that he can go right back to the Biting Tide. No one would be able to blame him for wanting to get back on it. Especially not when he’s stuck on a sloop that’s been adapted for a seven-man crew. As opposed to that, the Biting Tide was a galleon. Well and spacious enough for its sixty-man crew. The nigh perfect repair on its hull being his pride and joy.

And yet here he was, checking that the flint wasn’t dulled. For a likely damned attack on an Ocean Empire trading ship they’d seen. A sloop and galleon split between a total crew sixty-seven likely wouldn’t do any good against a full rigged ship with fourteen guns and naval officers on board.

The flint in the pistol he had in his hand wasn’t worn yet, but the barrel was fouled. He passed it off his left. Scar took it from his hand.

“Barrel’s the issue.” He huffed, reaching over to grab the next pistol to check. There was a couple seconds’ silence as he made sure there was nothing in the gun. Then Scar spoke.

“Are you alright? You’ve seemed down this whole time.” He asks. A quick glance over reveals he’s using the gun as a prop of sorts, as he rifles through a crate of various tools.

“I guess, I just can’t shake the feeling we’re sailing to our deaths.” He says. He can hear Scar set the pistol down, and then a warm hand rests on his shoulder.

“Well never fear Martyn, you’re with us- the Seven Deadly Sins! The greatest terrors of the ocean since the kraken. Should everything go well we won’t even have needed to check the guns, they’ll just surrender when we raise the flag!” Scar half yells, shaking his shoulder a bit. The absolute madman is grinning ear to ear.

“You know, I’m almost jealous of your confidence.” Martyn gets out, before his breathing is overtaken by laughs.

“Oh, I think you’re looking for the wrong person then. Envy’s Gem, I’m Gluttony remember.” Scar says, mock offense twisting in his voice. It would sound more like a threat than anything if not for the fact his shoulders shook.

“Oh, yeah yeah. You know what I meant.” Martyn says, returning to his task of checking the pistol.

“Of course, of course.” Scar said, taking his hand back and beginning on filling the divots in the barrel.

He could hear people milling about between the ships. Cleaning cannons, checking stocks, repairing sails, double checking rigging and so on.

“If we die, do you think the void will let us sink into a peaceful nothingness?” He asks, turning over his shoulder slightly, placing down the gun in the ‘good working condition’ pile and grabbing another.

“Wow, you’re actually pretty concerned with this. But, hmm. We aren’t good men, Martyn. The most mercy we can ask for is a clean shot through the head.” Scar says, knocking his knuckles to his temple for added effect.

“I guess. Just wondering. We’ll probably make it out though, hopefully.” He half mumbles. Scar sets down the pistol he had into the slowly growing pile. He passes Scar his pistol, pointing to the flint.

“Hopefully!” Scar says, voice as cheerful as someone seeing their first festival. With how cheerful he remained, it was surprising he wasn’t drunk. But hey, to brand yourself as an embodiment of evil it must take some level being messed up. Speaking of, he may as well get the story behind that.

“Hey, why do you lot go by seven deadly sins? Neither Grian nor Pearl mentioned when they left the Evolutionist.” Martyn asks. There’s a beat of near silence. The waves eating any noise from beyond them.

“Well we were already being called demons, just decided to go all in.” Scar says, his tone flat before picking up again as he continued, “Was worth it though, absolutely! Turns out folks either call us mad or think the name is true, either way we’re feared enough it hardly ever comes down to a fight.”

“Makes sense I guess.” Martyn says, picking up another pistol. They had four more to go, then their job for the night was done. They were gotten through in silence.

Martyn let the folks dealing with the black powder below deck know the pistols were all set, and found a place by the railing to sit and watch the ocean rush against the ship. Waves being cut through by boats anchored side by side. The moon was just starting to show on the water, the last dregs of sunlight fading from the sky.
