Hey, hey, I just wanna pop in here real fast and say that I've just discovered the funniest fucking trans head canons/aus, and that's the Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles trans head canons/aus where they have no fucking clue that they're trans because Splinter doesn't know turtle anatomy.

It's the best. Holy shit. It's hilarious dog. They're so fucking stupid, it's great. This is my new favorite thing. They just find out one day that they've actually been trans this whole time because their Dad just assumed all of them were male. But surprise bitch! One/all/whatever of your sons actually had XX chromosomes the whole time!!

Thinking about the Don Suave scene and what it means in terms of LGBTQ+ representation because my brain does nothing if not torment me with random topics to ramble about on the regular.

Anyway, I just wanted to ramble about why I like the scene but to get it out of the way - the scene can very easily be interpreted in so many different ways, and all of them are valid. I personally see it as Leo having at least some attraction to a man. And the following is an explanation of my own interpretation and thoughts on it and what it means especially for Leo’s portrayal in the grand scheme of things.

Long-winded interpretation under the cut!

Now, to start with, it’s important to me that in the scene Leo looks at Don Suave in the very beginning and then for the entirety of the rest of the time the man is on screen, Leo’s eyes are closed. Yet, in the end, he is still visibly enamored with Don Suave, happily cuddling up to him as he’s being carried away.

You can very easily interpret this as Leo being spellbound and that’s honestly super valid and I believe he likely was at least somewhat in the beginning, but considering how fast he looked away and how he never looked again, I personally think it makes more sense to read it as Leo just finding the man attractive, at least somewhat. (For the record, I personally headcanon Rise Leo as bisexual with a heavy preference for men, but I want to be blunt when I say that any interpretation is valid. Literally any. Ace, pan, gay, bi, none of the above or a mixture of something new literally all of it is more than okay and fair. Hell you could even interpret this entire scene as more romantic attraction than physical and it would still work. Anything goes!! Don’t bother people, guys, really.)

The main reason I take this scene to be at the very least LGBTQ+ adjacent isn’t just because of how it’s portrayed, but because of who Leonardo is. Not in terms of Rise of the TMNT, but in terms of the entire Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles™️ franchise.

Leo’s a character who, while changing with each iteration, has still at his core been around for decades upon decades as “the blue one”. One fourth of the team. He’s the one most are going to look at as the Leader, and oftentimes he is the one closest to having the title of Main Character. Not to say the others aren’t just as important, but Leo’s presence in the A plots of basically all TMNT media is often something very main character-esque.

And that’s very, very important to note. Here we have a Main Character of a prolific and decades long-running franchise distributed by a children’s television network. You can play around with his and his brothers’ characters all you like, but there is always going to be challenges to dodge around, especially since this was still in 2018-2019.

For example, you can play around with their designs so long as they’re color coded turtles, but their sexualities? Now that’s tricky.

“But what about Hypno and Warren?” Not main characters and also they’re Rise originals. They have a lot more room to play around with than a character like Leo does. But even talking about main characters in the franchise, you could arguably have an easier time playing around with Donnie or Mikey’s sexualities than Leo or even Raph, as (unfortunately) the former two tend to get more B plots, so they’d likely have had a little more leeway (still not a lot though.)

So, where does this leave us?

It leaves us in a place where outright stating and/or showing undeniable proof of Leo’s attraction to men is very, very difficult. So, workarounds!

Workarounds like the entire Don Suave situation.

To be honest, as left up to interpretation and lowkey and deniable as it is, this whole scene means a lot to me because of who Leo is as a character. It’s just nice when we get so see even the bare bones of representation with characters that have been such a large part of pop culture for decades, y’know? Even if more would be so much nicer, this is better than I thought we’d ever get for these boys.

And, again, literally nothing I’ve said is the only way to interpret it, I’m more than happy when people interpret media on their own honestly, it’s just something I’ve been thinking of lately and I was wondering if others felt the same way.

Whatever you think when you interpret this scene or Rise Leo as a whole, I just thought this would be interesting to think about, even if it was ramble-y, haha.

oo i was waiting for someone to ask about this now i can info dump

the gift from the gods in this case is grasscutter, originating from the usagi yojimbo comics. the story itself is super good i recommend reading it first as i took a couple creative liberties with it for my rise iteration

basically im taking the "sword from the gods thats been lost for 500 years" and making it so that its so powerful most mortals die from just wielding it, some are able to use it but it turns them into something unrecognizable

so part of the story goes the same, except the timeline is earlier. the plot to recover the lost sword using dark magic still happens and unfortunately a young usagi was wandering nearby when it emerged

being a kid and not fully believing the stories he tries grabbing it to show to katsuichi without thinking and the effects start to take place (its not a good time)

luckily katsuichi was near enough to hear his screams and manages to rip it out of his hand, leaving them both frazzled and scared

katsuichi is now faced with multiple facts that are putting them both in inmense danger

grasscutter is not only real but in their possesion, anyone looking to gain power either by force or politically is now going to be after them

usagi was able to wield it and not die, hes now a target as a potential user that others could manipulate

deciding hes no longer safe in their world (gonna take the 2003 approach and say he has some access to interdimensional travel) he sends usagi away to the turtles universe in the care of big mama, promising to come back once the rumors of the sword die out and he finds a way to fully get rid of it

innitially the deal is for usagi to stay protected in the nexus hotel guarding the sword, but eventually big mama baits him into participating in the battles to keep up his training.

he accepts and starts playing up the dramatics since he views the nexus as more of a show as he gets older and stronger, but still holds onto katsuichi's promise of coming back, if there are any signs of him being alive and returning he is willing to throw away the entire deal

big mama might have been restricting communication between them, she wants to see grasscutter in action without fully realizing its destructive power

the sword essentially takes over the wielder if theyre strong enough to use it, reducing them to rage and violence without any reason, fuels their body with energy to keep going until it falls apart

so basically

Adrift in Currents Clean and Clear by Seanan McGuire is the newest Wayward Children book! This one takes place in a Drowned World, with giant turtles.

I Am Made of Death by Kelly Andrews is a horror romance starring the signing interpreter of a selective mute who is also an heiress! I loved Andrews' last book, which hd lush folk horror vibes, and this one has a gorgeous cover and involves curses and a spiritual exorcism, so I'm IN.

Love Points to You by Alice Lin is about someone making a dating sim! And the MC being hired as character designer. This is an Asian-led sapphic romance, and as a dating sim fan, I'm super pumped.

They Bloom at Night by Trang Thanh Tran is a horror novel full of mutated monsters, and a cult-ish submerged town where the MC and her mother are stuck, where the people believe their dead family have reincarnated as sea monsters. The summary also heavily implies the MC has monstrous qualities.

What Wakes the Bells by Elle Tesch involves malevolent souls trapped in bells and fighting gargoyles! This sounds like an exciting fantasy world with a really fun adventure.

I Am the Swarm by Hayley Chewins is a trauma-centric horror with a magical bloodline and the power/curse of summoning insects. This one really leans into female rage, and I'm really interested in the magic.

Holy Terrors by Margaret Owen is the third (and I think final!) book in the Little Thieves series! Fairytale-retelling fantasy with a snarky, morally gray, damaged MC (whom I love)

Roll for Love by M.K. England is one of my favorite kinds of books coming out lately- a D&D based romance! This one involves a new campaign & roleplaying group after a big move, and a no-dating rule giving some tension.

The Summer I Ate the Rich by Maika Moulite & Maritza Moulite is Haitian-American Hannibal story! It's also a zombie story.

The Floating World by Axie Oh was pitched as an amnesiac sword-for-hire teaming up with a theatre troupe performer with mysterious powers, and I don't need to know any more than that!

Don't Let Me Go by Kevin Christopher Snipes is Snipes' second book- and I was absolutely gut punched by the queer tenderness and mental revelations of his first book. This one will also break me, as it's about two boys trapped in a reincarnation cycle.

And They Were Roommates by Page Powars should need no further explanation than the title!! But in case it's not- this is an MLM story of a stealth trans boy coming to a new school, where- unbeknownst to the roommate- he's roomed with his former, pre-transition fling.

Nobody in Particular by Sophie Gonzales is a royalty romance at a boarding school, and it's sapphic! This has a disgraced princess falling for the new girl pianist 😍 As a big believer in Gonzales, I am lined up.

The Listeners by Maggie Stiefvater is not my normal kind of read! This is historical fiction, taking place at a hotel/spa in the 1940s- but Stiefvater wrote one of my favorite series, The Rave Boys (and The Dreamer Trilogy!), and she'd super excited about it, so I'm just looking forward to seeing her spectacular writing coming at a new angle.

Love Misha by Jam Aden has been on my list for a LONG TIME. Why? Because it's promoted as A Goofy Movie meets Spirited Away with a nonbinary main character. SAY NO MORE.

If We Survive This by Racquel Marie is a apoclaypse survival horror. Lesbian zombie stories are surprisingly not that hard t find right now, but I'm definitely interested in seeing more of them!

Predatory Natures by Amy Goldsmith has one of my favorite things- TRAIN SETTINGS. The MC is working on a luxury train during her gap year, but the trip is derailed by the arrival of a mysterious greenhouse and a pair of odd, enigmatic siblings. This is fantasy horror.

Evil-ish by Kennedy Tarrell is about disillusioned teen trying to become a supervillain. I love supervillain fiction, and this one sounds really fun and with surprising characters!

Villain by Natalie Zina Walschots is the very longwaited (for me, at least) sequel to the wonderful villain-led, radicalization story Hench. I'm so looking forward to seeing Anna as a full supervillain!

Mistress of Bones by Maria Z. Medina stars a necromancer trying to resurrect her sister, and getting caught in a game of cat and mouse with the Emissary of Death. This one sounds really magical.

Hollow by Taylor Grothe is YA horror with an autistic (and trying to deny her diagnosis) teen in Upstate New York. I, personally, seeing book in Upstate NY and love autism rep, and this is queer!

The Cuffing Game by Lyla Lee has one of my favorite fluffy queer romanc writers tacking reality show romance by the way of Pride & Prejudice! There's also (no surprise) going to be K-drama vibes.

For No Mortal Man by Keshe Chow stars a girl who can resurrect herself, traveling the Underworld to find her grandmother, and being haunted by a former betrayer.

We Were Never Here by Sophie Hannan is a heist story! This is about ghost hunters being blackmailed to do a heist, stealing a haunted painting. I love weird heists, I really do.

You Weren't Meant to Be Human by Andrew Joseph White is probably my most anticipated release of 2025! I love AJW's autistic, trans horror, and this one has aliens and pregnancy horror. I see no way this won't be weird as hell, and therefore no way this isn't gonna be amazing.

hmm... had to think about this for a while and talk about it with co-author, but here's what we got. we mostly base this stuff on how plausible it is in show/if there's evidence for it. with a dash of personal experience. This only applies to residuum, btw. I have different personal headcanons for these characters outside the comic.

april: lesbian. this is mostly based off of the fact that most aprils get with their caseys & the comment she said to dale. which could be taken as disinterest in dale specifically, but she seemed more concerned with impressing that popular girl earlier and that reads as more... saphic, i suppose. or at the very least homoromantic.

raph: raph is just raph. we look at him and basically just *tv static*. go crazy. all we got is jokes or stuff that has too little evidence to support. so, yeah, he's whatever you want him to be i guess?

leo: trans. already said my reason in the other post. also, gay. if gay were a power source he could power the entirety of the united states for five months straight without a single power outage. failing power grid notwithstanding (< thats the actual word. its supposed to be mushed together like that. wack.).

donnie: as much as i'd like him to be ace/aro spectrum rep, he just doesn't have the evidence in show for us to apply it to him in this comic. it's funny, for being hc as ace so often he sure is the most outwardly romantic/sexual turtle in the show lmao. one! cherry: "you're so cute, but you're so mean! why do i always go for your type?" two! astrogirl?? Is it just me, or does it feel like there are several more mutants in the TMNT 2012 universe that the show never talked about? What I mean is, New York can't be the only city where mutants roam around. Unless they picked specifically NY and nowhere else to do their mutations and all that stuff. What if there are mutants from different places? Idk, this thought randomly just appeared in my head.

I was actually thinking about this the other day cause in the season 2 episode The Kraang Conspiracy, Kurtzman shows April and the Turtles his research, explaining the Kraang have been on earth for many MANY years.

With the Kraang being on Earth for this long, you'd think they probably have other bases and are experimenting on mutants in other parts of the world outside of NY but the show never explores that concept. We can assume that NY is their primary location for their studies and experiments (considering that is where their leader Kraang Prime resides and they've suggested Kraang are like a hive mind, like bees with their queen, but with mind control cause all Kraang are just brainwashed Utrom under the control of K!Prime) and NY is where they wish to execute their big plan, but did the writers ever consider that establishing that the Kraang have been here since Ancient Egyptian times that maybe the Kraang aren't actually gone when the Turtles calm they are by season 4-5??? Which btw, there's never an actual conclusion to the Kraang plot, they just disappear after the Triceraton invasion. The last time we see the Kraang species as a whole is in the season 4 ep War for Dimenson X, with the later ep Trans Dimensional Turtles being the last time we see Kraang Sub Prime.

At the same time, the show makes in clear that the Kraang are cowards, whenever facing a threat that can easily over power them, they run away (EX: the Triceratons, instead of fighting back they just ran and hide away to avoid conflict until the Triceratons found them hidding on Earth) So I could assume the Kraang wanted to lay low and only are in NY, maybe they've hopped around to different states and/or countries every few hundred years to avoid being spotted, but theirs still a high chance that some of the Kraang failed/rejected mutant experiments (future ally or foe) are still out there wondering the Earth that the Turtles are unware of.

Writers and artist of TMNT 2012, this gives yall an opening for fun fanfics and even OC making! Make a mutant OC that was created in another part of the world. Its possible in canon that other Kraang bases exist outside of NY. There's potential here!! GO FOR IT! :D

*Shinigami actually owns multiple cats. 2 ragdoll, 1 sphinx, 1 Persian, and 3 British shorthairs (I could name them all, but I don't wanna). Also, the majority of them are black cats. She feeds strays, too.

*The last headcanon is much to Karai's dismay because she is somewhat allergic. She gets headaches, her skin gets slightly irritated and she gets the sniffles if she's around cats for too long.

*Casey's younger sister wants to be a hair stylist when she grows up, so Jones let's her do his hair every once in a while and he flexes it to every one at the lair like: "Oh? My hair? Yeah, my sister did it for me. Pretty metal, what she did with it, right?"

*Tigerclaw is the only Foot Clan member to not bully Baxter Stockman.

*Someone manipulated and lied to Alopex in order to make her hate and hunt down her brother.

*After season 4, Baxter Stockman leaves New York and takes over Stockman Industries. (If you're unaware of what that is, it's on billboards that the turtles pass throughout the show the most notable appearance being in the ending scene of the final season 4 episode, 'Owari'.)

*Slash deep down still misses The Newtralizer.

*Leatherhead kind of freaks out (apologies for the bad wording) when someone fully wraps their arms around his neck when hugging him because it reminds him of the restraints the Kraang put him in.

*Pigeon Pete learns how to bake so he can make his own bread.

*The turtles get a Wii (or whatever the universes equivalent is).

*Mondo Gecko gets an old Xbox and plays Tony )(awk games, Bully, and Twisted Metal on it.

*Ivan and Anton actually move out to New Jersey post show.

Gonna post some cool thing I made regarding Hades 2 later, but rn I actually wanted to blabber about little things and bits and bops I notices and/or liked in that game cause I wanna yap. Also maybe spoilers possibly since I'll be talking about in game dialouge and events?

1. I find it super interesting how Chronos keeps talking about a "Golden Age" and returning to a better time to appeal to the humans. I think it mirrors a lot of talking points for people trying to grab at power, where they'll often promise prosperity on some level, that's also kind of vague and un-obtainable.

Like first, he's Time, I find it funny how even though in one of the dialouges that one can only move foward in time, that he's promising a return to a time that current humans have no clue about because it's been literal eons since the last "golden age."

Also it's always some vague promise. He never actually discusses what he plans to do beyond "vengeance to the gods." He has no promise to mortals after he's done with the gods, obviously.

2. I love how flawed Melinoë is in this game. Like god even tho I loved zag, I'm kinda happy to find her callous towards differing opinions and especially those that oppose the gods (not that being a bit of a jerk to mortals is good, i just like a flawed character). She sucks at socializing, she's pretty uptight, but she's also pretty cool when she wants to be, and I think the few times when she smiles at others is nice too cause like she's kinda like a cat. There's only so many times she'll smile lol.

I also think that the far fewer friends she's made (that aren't just people who keep a bit more distance like Hecate and Odyseus) such as Dora really shine through because again, she's not like zag who's very charismatic and easygoing.

She's also just so socially oblivious sometimes, which I relate so much too. Like I'd say "we're family" too right to Heracles' face if I had no idea what Hera put him through lol.

3. Props to dionysius for accepting zag as trans when he thought that mel was her brother for a split sec. We love a drunk ally who rocks the leopard print 🏳️‍🌈👑

4. I would like to personally thank Supergiant for giving my husband Hermes a pet turtle.

Can you tell me more about your snapper AU

It's an au of an au of an au. It's teb @debb987 au with nini (their version of ghost @amevello-blue ) but also an au coz i made lou an alligator snapper. It's basically a fix it fic with all the bells and whistles. Lou just eats whoever tries to hurt them. Kraang? Tum tum-ed. Draxum? Tum tum-ed. Big mama? Tum tum-ed. Foot clan? Tum tum-ed (dw about cassey she gets adopted by 03 casey and april)

The babies have mystic powers hence angelo floating. The silly idea is angelo stayed tiny coz all the food and energy goes to his mystic powers. And coz tiny angelo with his kaiju family will never not be funny to me.

All the babies have their ninpo. Raph has his shield. Dee can create weapons once he learns their construction. Lee can teleport (kinda on will) when he is gassy :D. That's actually how they yoinked nini's family. (Im not lying when i said it was a fix-it fic) but that's a story for another time

Lou is basically a mobile home. That's why they dont need to leave anything and raph can have all the plushies he deserves. Dee gets to pull apart and pick thru all the broken appliances they find. Lee gets all the books he can read thru his heart's desires (also how he can speak so many languages). Angelo gets to have all the cooking books and they even found a old easy bake oven for him to play with!

Oh and lou is ftm trans. I dont make the rules. And he is himbo af. The true himbo the trifecta of dumb of ass, body of steel, and heart of gold. He doesnt know what he is doing most of the time. But he will try his best. And nini is there to help explain anything. They also yoinked the teleporting sword so they're just living everywhere. But the idea is they found a mystic area where they'll be unbothered and are settled happily (coz that's really my goal with this au. Them all to be happy)

Lou is basically is that one vers from love like you

Lou is just a simple guy. He just wants his newly found family safe and happy and will do anything to make sure they are safe and very loved. He is a sad old man that hates himself, but he very much puts his family first and learns to love himself thru kids showing him how much they love him.

This actually how they found nini. Lou just thought he accidentally dropped one of the kids and shell pocketed nini (hence me jokingly calling this au nini in the shell pocket)

And the on going joke of lou just adopting all the turtle babies he finds

after finding out he's trans from Draxum, Leo drops the news to his family with a joke and zero explication. The family wants to be a supportive as possible, but misunderstand and think that Leo just came out as transfem. The fact they didn't even consider Leo is biofem is surprisingly validating.

“Guess who just gave a new meaning to to word trans-portation!”

This is the first thing Leo says to everyone after going off with Draxum to who-knows-where for who-knows-what.

“Normally, I unfortunately understand the flow of logic for Leo’s puns, but I admit that I am blanking here.” Donnie says, looking at Leo with narrowed eyes.

Leo laughs - maybe a bit hysterically - as he saunters on over to the rest of his family. “Eh, just a little joke about my awesome portal powers mixed with- uh-“ He coughs into his fist, finding it difficult to keep his regular act up. “-a fab new finding about myself. Turns out I was born…a female turtle……?”

There’s silence for a moment.

Then- “Omigosh! Leo!” An orange blur rockets its way into Leo’s arms, making the slider let out and “oof” before steading both he and Mikey. “Thank you for telling us! Wait, is it still Leo? Or Lea now, maybe?”

The shock wheels its way out of Raph’s form as he comes over, eyes shiny, “I’m glad you told us, little sis.”

Leo blinks at them. “Wait-“

“Please note that if any of our enemies or allies refers to you incorrectly I can and will use deadly force to correct them.” Donnie states, with a grin that looked a little too excited about the idea.

“Same here!” April states, pounding one hand into another, “And- it’s cool to have another girl around.”

Leo thinks something got lost in translation. “Uh, guys-“

Splinter comes up to his side, patting his arm gently. “Oh, my Baby Blue, I’m so proud of you, my daught-“

“Okay, no, no, you guys got it wrong.” Leo laughs again, more uncomfortably than hysterically this time. “I’m- I’m not, like, a girl. I was-“ He looks away, feeling way too embarrassed about all this for his comfort, “I was born as a female turtle. Biologically.”

A beat.

“Oh.” Raph blinks down at him, surprise on his face, “Oh we may have jumped the gun there.”

“Well, this is embarrassing, though my offer of violence stands.” Donnie states.

Mikey rubs the back of his head sheepishly, “So…still Leo? Our brother?”

Leo gives a fond grin, “Yeah, yeah, still your brother.”

(April makes a noise of amusement, elbowing Splinter as everyone turns to her, “Hey, y’know what Splints? I think your DNA may have accidentally became some kinda HRT for Leo.”

Donnie thinks, “It does make sense, if a female red eared slider were to become mutated with a male human’s DNA then hypothetically it could create a mutant that takes on a more masculine outer appearance while retaining the female make up that was used as the base-“

Leo cuts in, “Okay, okay, no science-ing my gender, bro, let’s just order some pizza.”)

i have seen people put together some background canon info about the egos and their appearances over the years, which is awesome and a huge feat, but I just wanted to compile some popular headcanons and fanon interpretations that might be relevant if someone new was trying to get into the fandom, or even that we may see references for in new canon. it's our CULTURE okay??

Chase having two kids: when Sean released CHASE he announced that Chase canonically has/had one child, but in Chase's original video he referred to Stacy taking the "kids," which lead to the popular interpretation that Chase had two young children. you might still see this around

Henrik's backstory: likewise, Sean used to make occasional references to Henrik having an ex-wife and possibly kids. some people consider this canon and others don't, because it was just in random gameplay vids, but you might see it referenced

Anti is a turtle: an OG ego meme. when Anti says "I am eternal" in Say Goodbye, it sounds like "I am a turtle." Sean saw this and reacted to it in a vid, and now there are occasional turtle references

Queer egos: obviously this is tumblr and queer headcanons abound. in my experience, the most popular interpretations include Jackie being trans and Marvin being mlm. you will see this frequently in the fandom

JJ's mutism: JJ first appears in a silent video with captions like an old-time movie, but Sean didn't confirm that he has mutism until later, and also incorporated British Sign Language in his most recent video. older portrayals of JJ - or less inclusive ones - might not feature his mutism. additionally you may encounter a variety of magical or practical aids to help him communicate. oh, and you might also hear JJ called Dapper Jack - we were the ones who named him Jameson Jackson!

Eye color: throughout the years the glitches that suggested Jack might be making ego content frequently featured changes in his eye color. Sean has had brown, green, pure black, and mismatched eyes on different occasions. it's unknown if these correspond to particular egos, but Anti has appeared with green, blue, and black most frequently

Henrik being tortured for nine months: after Henrik was attacked by Anti during a video, Jack posted a bloodied postcard depicting a beach in Germany. this lead to the popular conception that Henrik was taken by Anti and may have been tortured by him. the length of time between seeing him again was nine months

Jack in a coma: this is more canon than fanon, but we've been saying that Jack's been in a coma for years and years now, pretty much since Anti first got his hands on him. Jack later had a voiceover in a video where Chase told Jack he needs him to wake up.

shipping: some of the most popular ships include Marvin/Jackie and Chase/Henrik. you'll also see some Darkiplier/Anti. although the egos all look the same, there's no canon suggestion that any of them are related at this time.

friendships: Chase canonically refers to Jack as his friend, and the fact that Henrik tried to help save Jack has led to the popular conception that he and Chase at least know each other, and are possibly friends too. the others? no clue. oh except maybe probably Anti is holding JJ captive who knows

Phoenix Marvin: Jack once referred to Marvin as a phoenix from the ashes in a tumblr post and we all lost our minds about it. great motif. and of course he wears the cat mask, so you'll see a lot of Marvin with cats or being able to turn into a cat. his magical powers are not canon yet, so you'll see a huge variety, as well as magic or superpowers for other egos too
