could we please hear some more about french dick grayson? I'm very invested now! <3
yes the graysons are my favourite topic so!!!! i personally enjoy the idea that dick isn’t american and had very little exposure to american culture before his parents death. imagine ur first encounter with americanisms being gotham city. no wonder he’s like that.
when i was writing persephone i did a lot of reading about different rromani groups in europe to try and map out where his parents might’ve come from, and eventually landed on southern france for his mother (specifically from the sinti-manouche romani) and dobruja, romania for his father (with a turkish father and romanian mother). we see that reflected in how dick refers to them in his head — always by maman and tati, and never by their names. were they actually ever the flying graysons, or was the name grayson itself anglicised? we just don’t know.
i didn’t want it to be lip service, and i didn’t want it to be something casual tossed in the bg like we see in taylors run (what the hell does romani smile mean, tom??) because that’s how we see flattened, stereotypical storytelling. i can’t decide whether i was successful or not, but it would be nice to see any professional dc writer out in some effort to dicks backstory that isn’t court of owls or [x character] was at the circus when the graysons fell. at this point it’s more of a red flag that random goon no.4 wasn’t there.
with that in mind, dicks relative isolation in gotham being not only from his own grief but also because he’s literally on another continent, speaking a language that isn’t his, and totally away from everything he’d known, makes such an interesting counter to bruce’s own journey with loss. dick is transient, while bruce is (literally and metaphorically) rooted in the house his parents lived in.
however the primary reason i enjoy him being french is because i believe damian would make fun of him for it (lovingly)

Since everyone's been showing off their Hello Puppets! OCs lately, I might aswell show mine!
Tumblr media
"Nick's friendly feline! Angel is a sassy but curious cat, mostly seen in Nick's arts studio. Ironically she's bestfriends with Riley's good boy, Rosco."
In the show:
She was a stray kitten Nick found in an alleyway near his local supermarket, he ended up adopting the feline when she suddenly climbed onto his leg and wouldnt let go.
Outside of the show:
She was one of Jake's 2 pet cats, one day he brought them to work after a vet visit because he couldnt find a cat sitter(and also because Owen was very strict with the work schedule). Somehow she escaped her carrier and endep up walking onto the set, while they were filming! Luckily, Jake was able to improvise the whole scene, saving the crew alot of time. The feline even played along, acting as if she was always planned to be there.
Owen was not happy with the sudden intervention, but after hearing some feedback from the fans, he decided to let the incident slide and eventually added Angel to the show.
Relationship with the Handeemen(Show counterparts):
- Rosco: As said before, she is best friends with the good boi! They're always seen playing or even cuddling with eachother.
The writing team thought it would be pretty ironic for the main cat and dog of the show to not act like cats and dogs(its also so they contrast their owners), another reason was because she was the only cat who wasnt afraid of the Rosco suit, infact, she was fond of it.
- Nick: She is very fond of him(considering he adopted her and all), however she can get abit annoyed at his dramaticness(on some episodes she's his meow of reason).
Nick sees her as his sassy daughter, he likes to dress her up and put her on mini fashion shows(Angel doesnt mind, as long as she gets a treat later). He also taught her how to paw paint ever since she had showned an interest in it(with pet safe paint of course).
- Riley: She's pretty neutral with the scientist, tho she does dislike the loud fights she and Nick would cause. Sometimes, both her and Rosco would try to break them up, and in some cases, they would succeed(only for them to start arguing again a few minutes later).
The feeling is mostly mutual, with Riley having a slight dislike towards the feline. The reason being how Angel(like every other cat), would purposely knock over random stuff off of high places, which annoys the scientist greatly.
This behavior led to a small(and thankfully harmless) explosion to happen, which also led to the feline getting banned from the Ruckus Lab™
- Daisy: While she can get abit uncomfortable with the baker's constant smothering, she enjoys spending time with her(mostly because she knows Daisy wont hesitate to give her free treats).
Daisy absolutely adores Angel and would often make homemade treats for her(the feline reminds her alot of an old family cat Daisy used to have when she was still living in the country side), however she does wish that Angel would shed less she would also knit sweaters for her and help make cat clothes for Nick's mini fashion show.
- Mortimer: Angel is pretty friendly with the old man, she's usually seen sitting on his lap while he's drinking tea or reading a book(sometimes he'll even read one to her).
Its the same with Mortimer, he considers the feline as a great practice audience for his magic shows and storytelling.
More Info about her:
- The B stands for Beatrice(which was named after Nick's dead mother).
- Her real name is actually Cookie(Owen thought it wasn't a name Nick would pick, so he changed it to Angel), her brother's name was Cream(he was a a turkish van cat with heterochromia).
- Sometimes her brother would make a cameo in the show as a backrgound character, tho they couldnt make him Nick's second cat. Mostly because, unlike his sister, Cream was terrified of the puppets(especially Mortimer).
Feel free to ask some questions about her!

Henry Cavill:
That's a wrap! My days on Ungentlemanly Warfare are over. Tis a sad day. I'm going to echo the sentiments of my co-stars and sing the praises of our intrepid crew. It's rare to come across a team so driven, dedicated and committed to the storytelling. That drive and dedication is only intensified by having a leader such as Guy Ritchie. His ability to weave story and create character might be second to none, and he wields it like it were magic.
Those ingredients - skill, drive, and exceptional talent at the top, are only three of the ingredients needed for an experience that will last forever in memory. The fourth is happiness. Guy creates happiness on his set, it's a joyful place to be, full of laughter and japes and jests. The crew and cast's approach and personality is key in this. Everyone, without fail, was able to enjoy themselves while also working hard and being exceptional.
This wee pontification would not be complete without heaping praise upon my fellow actors. Alan Ritchson, the man mountain, with a heart of gold, and a wisdom and talent that can sweep you off your feet. Alex Pettyfer, the lover, the laugher, the warmth of a big smile and a jaw line that would challenge the Turkish mountains. Henry Golding Jnr, a snap quick acting reaction time, handsome beyond belief and always a man I was happy to see. And the last (but not the least) of my immediate team of misfits, Hero Fiennes Tiffin - a mega star in the making. I know a lot of you know him already, but my oh my he's going to have a magnificent career.
To the makers of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare I shall miss you all, and gods willing - see you soon.

I wrote a review of aftersun for my course and thought it turned out quite well so wanted to share:
A critical review of Aftersun (2022)
For me, Aftersun (dir. Charlotte Wells) can be summarised in a series of images. The first: a young man is balancing on the edge of a balcony. Inside, his daughter is sleeping. The second: a young man has gone scuba diving without a licence. ”He told a porkie pie,” his daughter records herself saying into a 90’s camcorder. ”But he’ll be fine, I’m sure.” The third: a young man is walking alone at night in an unfamiliar city, drunk. He picks up someone else’s discarded cigarette and smokes it. He walks to the beach and keeps walking, with purpose, directly into the sea.
Aftersun is a story told through one long, almost uninterrupted, flashback. Calum (Paul Mescal) and his 11-year-old daughter Sophie (Frankie Corio) are on a budget holiday in a Turkish resort some time in the late 90’s. They spend their days by the pool, or on guided tours of the surrounding tourist attractions, or giggling about the tacky yet endearing evening entertainment. In the present day, Sophie looks back on the last holiday she spent with her dad. She is looking through camcorder footage, searching for clues, signs that her father was about to slip away from her. Throughout, the film almost seems to audibly, gently chant: I want to remember. I need to remember. Aftersun is a story told with such sensitivity, such beauty and subtlety, that it’s impossible not to let it crawl under your skin.
Paul Mescal and Frankie Corio are breathtaking as father and daughter. Their rapport is warm and effortless and goes beyond words. The relationship between Calum and Sophie becomes clear through subtle, physical storytelling: a touch of the hand, the tenderness with which Sophie applies sunscreen to Calum’s back, the gentleness in the way they move and talk to each other. The physical storytelling is equally strong when they are apart: Sophie’s furtive, curious glances at the older kids fondling each other by the pool; Calum’s back turned towards the camera as he sobs, his shoulders heaving, the muscles in his back convulsing. The dialogue is beautifully banal most of the time. What carries the story is the relationship between Calum and Sophie which is told through images, and through the way they simply are around each other. Mescal and Corio seem to be living and totally embodying the love between Calum and Sophie, and so as a viewer, I can’t help but believe I am watching real people.
Visually, Aftersun is stunning. It shimmers and sparkles. It’s swimming pool blue and greasy, sun-kissed skin. It’s tacky 90’s eurodance by the poolside bar. It’s arcade games and walkmen and badly-sung karaoke. It looks and feels like that awkward, blooming time at the very beginning of adolescence. Sophie secretly peruses the pages of a romance novel in the hotel reception, she hides in the bathroom and eavesdrops on the older girls’ conversations about their sexual conquests, she watches them kissing their boyfriends in the pool with that pre-adolescent mixture of fascination and disgust. The soundscape, too, feels nostalgic: the same hypnotising, bittersweet theme repeated again and again throughout, as if on a loop. As if to accentuate the fact that this is not the first time this memory has been visited. It has been carefully scrutinized. It has been visited and revisited and revisited time and time again.
In her review of Aftersun for The Independent, Clarisse Loughry writes: ”It’s difficult to think of the moments before a heartbreak and not lace them with omens. The mind, too often, moulds memories into prophecies. Colours get dialled up. Emotions solidify. It’s a hard thing to talk about, let alone visualise. That’s why Aftersun, the debut of Scottish filmmaker Charlotte Wells, is so astounding. She’s captured the uncapturable, finding the words and images to describe a feeling that always seems to sit just beyond our comprehension.” This, to me, accurately captures Aftersun as an experience. Calum’s many close brushes with death that are pictured on screen seem to be half-imagined by Sophie; an attempt to retrospectively foresee the tragedy that was to come.
I’ve read a good handful of professional reviews of Aftersun now, and curiously, none of them mention the theme of suicide. Some reviews mention death, some don’t. No explicit mention of suicide anywhere. Why this is, I don’t know. As someone who has lost someone I loved to suicide, I can’t not see it. When Calum matter-of-factly tells a diving instructor that he doubts he’ll make it to 40 and that he’s surprised he even made it to 30. When he walks off into the night on his own, drunk, carrying some pain he can’t speak of. The way his daughter senses it despite his attempts to hide it. Her fumbling, deeply loving attempts to cheer him up: how she gets the other hotel guests to sing to him on his birthday, how she invites him to sing karaoke with her when he seems low, the way she gently makes fun of him. She’s constantly pointing her camcorder at him, asking him questions, as if she knows there’s some mysterious, hidden side to him that she’ll never have access to, something dark and unspoken and unnamed. And, finally, the shot of Calum weeping in some other place, in some other time, followed by a shot of a note saying: ”Sophie, I love you very much. Never forget that. Dad.”
We lack nuanced stories about suicide in our cultural landscape. Aftersun is a story that neither glorifies, nor demonises. It deals with grief and with the struggle to understand something incomprehensible. It portrays a person who is suicidal, and who is also kind, goofy, loving, sensitive, and an excellent dad. ”You can live wherever you want to live, be whoever you want to be,” Calum tells Sophie, stroking her hair. ”You have time.” We sense that he knows that his is running out.
Aftersun is a sparkling gem of a film, and it resonates, not only with those who know grief, but with those who know love. Everything about it, from the cinematography to the acting to the soundtrack, feels warm. It feels to me like a meditation on love. At the end, I was left weeping – not only for Calum’s death and for Sophie’s loss, but also for the sheer amount of love between them.

I'm curious. Is anyone interested in whump watching the Turkish dramas or is it only gif makers who go hunt for these snippets? Do you know if they have a legit following by whump fans?
Actually, it's interesting you bring this up!
You know, there are definitely fans out there who are all about those whump moments in Turkish dramas. But when it comes down to it, Turkish dramas offer so much more than just that. For me, it's all about getting lost in the storytelling, connecting with the characters, and immersing myself in the Turkish culture. Sure, a well-done whump scene can add some excitement, but it's not the only thing that keeps me coming back for more.
I know there are some whump fans who watch Turkish series, but I'm not really in the loop about how big the fanbase is.

About Sophia's origin
Ok so I'd like to clear this up cause when I make mistakes I admit them most times. Some time ago I made a post about Sophia and my being pissed that even though she appeared Greek, Reverse's team didn't seem to have tried as hard to find a native or sb with an at least understandable accent for her Greek spell but it appears this wasn't necessary because Sophia is most likely not Greek (or she's half).
For context, when the current patch came out I could guess from the aesthetic the inspiration would be either Greek or Roman and then by the focus on Pythagorians I could tell it was indeed Greek inspiration, but I didn't expect there would be a single character that'd actually use the language, like for example French characters do. So when it did I was excited but also disappointed cause unless you read the subs, you couldn't tell what Sophia was saying.
Anyway long story short, from Sophia's mentions in 6's story, she appears to be Anatolian. And while the inspiration could be mixed, time-wise, cause anyway we're in 2007 in the game but everything else is based off ancient Greece, I think she too is supposed to be from the ancient version of Anatolia, therefore neither Greek nor Turkish but either Hattian or some other Anatolian ethnicity of that time. It is said that people at the shores of Asia Minor back then did speak Greek, probably cause of the trade situation with Greece and all, therefore it now makes sense to me that they went with the broken Greek option since she is not supposed to be native.
There. These are my "findings", or rather realizations. So yeah I apologize, I didn't know and I hope she is Anatolian and neither Greek nor Turkish cause that brings in the forefront ethnicities that went extinct and adds even more diversity in the game. However I have to admit I'm a bit sceptical about the choice of hair colour as well. 37 has light blue hair and Sophia firey red so this couuuuuld be addressing one is Greek and the other Turkish, or maybe's it's me overthinking xD. Cause some of you might say oh then why 6 and 210's hair aren't significant. Well, the men's duo doesn't seem to bring a cultural contrast in the forefront but one of authority and social roles and standards. It's the common sense of the island vs the one that wishes to not follow stuff blindly. 37 and Sophia's focus though has to do with cultural contrast and differences and Sophia's adjusting to the mindset of the island through observation of the common ways (island people) and 37 (sb's different and independent approach to the common ways), while also stressing the significance of learning from each other and finding a middle ground like when 37 also tried to play, in her own way, and try to understand more about Sophia through her father's notebook.
That's all. At the end of the day, games and storytelling are artforms, so unless we have specific mentions of things, everything is up to the viewer's interpretation. That was mine.

Ardeth Bay Headcanons
As well as his native variant of Arabic, he is fluent in a number of other regional dialects, and proficient to fluent in English, French, German, Italian, some Coptic and some Middle and Late Kingdom phrases.
Is an avid reader, especially of poetry. He'll pick up any volume of poems he can, ancient, modern, or anything in between, in any language he knows.
Poetry and storytelling are extremely popular pastimes amongst the Medjai. As well as readings, Ardeth writes some poetry of his own.
When they are invented and he gets a chance to experience them, he loves roller-coasters.
Drinks alcohol sparingly, but has been known to indulge in pomegranate wine if he's feeling laid-back.
Beverage of choice is strong Turkish coffee, which he drinks anytime he has the water to spare.
Has a sweet tooth, and gets sparkle-eyed for strawberry tarts when he first tries them while visiting the Carnahan-O'Connells in England.
Strong coffee + sweet tooth means his favorite treat would be a cafe mocha, full fat milk and whipped cream with cinnamon on top.
Has a younger sister, Nesreen, with whom he is very close (even though she is prone to teasing him, as little sisters do.)
His mother is deaf, so he signs with her using a Medjai variant of Arabic sign language which incorporates some of their signal codes and other gestures.
Has always had a falcon named Horus since he was first old enough to learn. Horus I was presented to him by his father. Subsequent birds all take the name (Horus II, Horus III, etc.) like a little dynasty.
Has cultivated a good rapport with a merchant in Cairo who makes and sells the highest quality soaps and emollients. Ardeth keeps his spare money aside to pick up the best shampoo and hair oil when he's in the city. Those luxuriant locks don't happen by accident.
(He may ignore the question, if asked about it, but Nesreen will happily spill the beans.) If he shares his hair care secrets and products with you, you have made it to his innermost circle.
Surprisingly good with children. When interacting with young kids, he will squat down to talk on their level, face to face. Enjoys giving piggyback rides to young family members, and lifting them up to sit on the saddle in front of him when they are too young to learn to ride yet.
Has a great dry sense of humor he shows only around people he's comfortable with (and when he's not in Serious Medjai Chieftain mode).
He inherited the knife with the elaborate handle (seen on his back in the first film) from his grandfather.
Slow to open up and trust people, but once you've earned it, you have a friend for life.
With thanks to @nnobodoodles, @belphegor1982, @picklebrinedgoblinmind, @nooneleavesforgood, and @tinydooms for letting me share some of these before and sharing some of their own ideas with me for brainstorming!

Romanian siblings posting
So, I think the current Romania character in Hetalia is very Transilvania. He lives in Sibiu, he has beef with Hungary and we never see him (from my memory) interacting with Turkey or Russia pre-USSR. So, Transilvania he is.
So that leaves the other 2 big parts of Romania up for nerds like me to write for. Wallachia and Moldova/Moldavia (they're Țara Românească or Valahia and Moldova in Romanian so I might switch between those names.)
Tumblr media
Wallachia, Moldavia and Transilvania are all siblings, the children between Dacia and the Roman Empire. They barely got to see their parents because they were all too young to remember them.
The three got seperated soon after, Transilvania getting kidnapped by Hungary, Wallachia constantly bickering with Turkey and Russia breathing down Moldavia's neck.
So, here are the character introductions for my little ocs of them. I actually have a lot more toughts on Wallachia than Moldavia so this is more of a Wallachia post
~Wallachia~
She's the youngest of the siblings (around 19 years old in human years).
She just wants to be left the fuck alone to plant her veggies and take care of her goats
She loves impaling things, crushing potatoes, steak, poking Turkey in the ass with her pitchfork
She has a pet goat called Esus because it's gramaticly correct
She adores cheese and anything with lactose. She refuses to believe lactose intolerance is a thing.
She can speak a shit lot of languages: Romanian, Turkish, French, English, German and Italian. In that order.
Her and Serbia have matching tatoos and they both dyed a bit of their hair blue just because
Wallachia keeps begging Serbia to join the EU because she wants to hang out in the back of the class and get drunk on medical alcohol like in the good ol' days
Serbia and Wallachia are childhood friends. Serbia actually thought Wallachia a few words in serbian and slavic (including the word for love)
Back when Turkey was the Ottoman Empire, he would constantly try to invade Wallachia
He did succeed but only a bit
They fought a lot and Wallachia was one of the brattier territories
She really did enjoy seeing the turks impaled at her border
All and all, Turkey was the closest thing Wallachia had to a father, so, inspite of their previous conflicts, Wallachia still talks with Turkey
At some point Turkey let Greece in charge of Wallachia
They got along quite well, especially since Greece would pay her to get naked
Wallachia and Greece still keep in contact and they send eachother cringe christmas and easter gifts... usually socks or cards
Once Wallachia and Moldavia joined forces together, banboozling the West by electing the same president, they played rock paper scissors and Wallachia won.
She once beat the shit out of Bulgaria, to the point that some western powers had to stop her from doing it
Never leave Wallachia in a room with Hungary. That bitch will be dead in an instant
Wallachia loves her siblings a lot but she's also a firm believer in consensual bullying
She did basicly every college under the sun at England's place before he threw her out. Now she's staying in Italy with Felicio
Her and Romania constantly try to see which one is better: Cluj Napoca or Bucharest
It's Iasi, guys, come on

~Moldavia~
She's the middle child at about 20 years old in human terms
She's the scapegoat of the family
Moldova is her kid and she's a very proud mom
She makes the best alcohol in the family
She was a lot closer to Wallachia than to Romania
She's the only one of the three that still constantly goes to church
She created the ice bucket challange and she's amused by how people were using it
She's the best storyteller of them all. She just has a very sweet and homey voice.
She's dating Ukraine and they're in a loving relationship together.

alright but imagine Levi dirty talking his s/o in a different language- LIKE IMAGINE HIM WHISPERING GERMAN OR SOMETHING IN YOUR EAR. God it cant just be me who has this obsession, we need more of this. 😭😭
Lmaooooo I see LOTS of ppl supporting levi talking french and they find it very fucking hot but imma be honest, levi talking french like je t'aime or Mon amour or shit like that is kinda a turn off for me 😂😂😂
Now German??? I never thought about it???? German is a very rough language but considering the snk world is basically WWII with nazi Germany (Marley) and Jews (Eldia), I bet they're supposed to be speaking a German-like language and it is mentioned that both Eldia and Marley speak the same language so yeah, the same german-like language for them both.
Ok y'all in the comments drop me something in German that might sound hot in Levi's voice ???? Honestly, I've no idea, back in school I had chosen french over German (terrible choice, should've chosen German but if I had my grandpa would've killed me lmao) but I still never learned shit in French so 😂😂
I honestly find English the hottest language (like it's easy af you can literally learn it in two months, and anything you might say in English won't sound cringy and it won't sound like a turn off to me???) Like when I write about levi I think of him speaking in English and everything he says it just sounds great in English (in my head).
Anon, I'd write you a small scenario where levi says something hot in German but I don't even know a single phrase in that language lmao
Some languages just sound great but for specific stuff. Like, the Greek language is amazing for scientific terms and reports and journals and shit like that. If you try making a love confession in Greeks, it's gonna sound cringy as fuck lmaooo
On the other hand, the British language is vague as fuck. And what I mean is that one word can mean a million things. Like English is built to sound fancy and sophisticated but you can have an entire paragraph that sounds absolutely sophisticated and beautiful but has zero essence. It's terrible for scientific terms and reports BUT it's amazing for storytelling and theatre and arts stuff I guess.
And for some ppl french sound very fucking hot (not for me tho).
Now I don't know much on the German language, I just know it sounds great in Mozart's operas and I think it's canon that levi speaks a German-like language considering that in all the voiced osts of snk the lyrics are in German which was an absolutely excellent choice on the composer's side.
My point is, each language got its own charms, but let's face it, Levi's voice is hot af (both dub and sub) so even if he recited a lasagna recipe in Turkish or sth, it'd still sound hot af like pls ruin my life sir
