I want to draw more Star Trek and possibly post more so here is the first thing I drew of my favorite TNG character Data, my beloved. I kept seeing people draw him with his hobbies and I wanted to take a swing at it. I also wanted to include things that made him more human and draw his mind breaking the formation thats been there ever since he got activated.

i wrote an article once reflecting upon my relationship with the english language as a resident of a former british colony who knows english better than her mother tongue. i discussed how the acquisition of the english language is prioritised in my society because english is the language of domination, english is power and how this consequently limits or at the very least influences my ideas of language politics and colonisation. i only understand my colonisation in the tongue of my coloniser.

i extend this line of thought to feminist theory as well. language, particularly conversational speech, as we know today, has been misogynistic at worse and male-biased at best. language posits the male as default and the female as a deviation. language is central to understanding, thinking and expressing. i only know my oppression in a tongue that belongs to my oppressor.

every time there's a rise in fascist action and power in the us, there's an en masse feminist response of like. affirming that gender is an ontological trait, you can tell what gender someone is without them directly stating it to you, appearance is indicative of gender (rather than just being correlative particularly in conservative populations), gender is a useful signifier of ideology separate from factors such as class and race (and may even be more causative regarding fascist ideology than class or race are), there is no form of gendered oppression targeting men, and there is no form of gendered privilege afforded to women.*

*nb4 someone gets on my case about how gendered targeting of men is "just" racism/ableism/etc and gendered privilege afforded to women isn't "truly" privilege as men who reap the benefits of patriarchy are still higher in the social hierarchy than women who reap the benefits of patriarchy: we have entirely different modalities for viewing interactions of privilege + power + hegemony. your modality is, in fact, part of what i'm critiquing. it refuses to recognize gender itself as the oppressive structure, and patriarchy as a structure enforcing gender. we can chat in good faith if you want to understand this lens better but like i'm not going to be arguing about it or trying to make a Discourse Post(tm) defending my ideology.

Does anyone else feel like Aylinluna was horribly out of character this episode?? I've heard that apparently some things were cut, so that might be the reason but it still felt weird. Like ur telling me Luna, who has literally been so respectful of Aylin's boundaries literally even last episode, is suddenly forcing her to go out of her comfort zone?? Okay, fine, I understand the concept of wanting ur gf to get along with ur friends, but ur telling me Luna wouldn't stand up for Aylin when someone is clearly getting in her face and making her uncomfortable?? That she would call her an ALIEN??!!!
