okay mh take on tua s1 is that it's really good. and i Always forget it's really good. but it's really fucking good. I love the tone. it's funny and sad and it knows what it's doing and how it wants to do it and how to make it WORK. everybody's doing things that are very relevant to their characters and simultaneously the plot whether they mean to or not. and they all feel kinda like actual people in some ways, with their darker moments and shit situations they're facing in their lives. they become less and less tethered to reality as the seasons go so it's just nice to see them Exist in The World for once. I think it's kinda where they work best -- even if I do enjoy s2 and s3. it's just kind of a different show by then.

I also actually really appreciate the portrayal of Reginald in this season, in a way I never really thought of before. by season 3 he's a cartoon villain who wants his wife back or whatever and is willing to fuck up anyone adn anything for it, and while it absolutely works within the tone and stories s2 and 3 want to tell, i think s1 reginald is the best reginald entirely because he feels more grounded in a way? like, he's a shit father because he puts saving the world above his kids. he SORTA cares about them but he doesn't seem to understand, like, people. his whole conversation with Klaus is FASCINATING because he's such a BASTARD but it doesn't seem like it's his goal to be, or even something he necessarily cares or wants to be. he just can't be bothered to be anything other than neglectful of emotional needs, because he doesn't seem to see the point in catering to them. he's very to the point. he only seems to understand humanity in the same way I, aromantic, understand romance, y'know? detached and with a degree of distaste. and I think that's MUCH more interesting than an evil guy who raised his kids to kill them for a wife. I like it when he raises them to save the world, and he sorta cares, but not really enough to put them first (yet enough to build a mother for them???)(it's utilitarian but it's also, like. dunno. coulda not made her loving and shit.)(he understands they need love and cares enough about them, or their development, to make a robot that'll provide it, but not enough to provide it himself.) he's a good guy in bjg picture terms but the worst guy ever interpersonally speaking.

anyway. I sort of feel the same with Luther re: being at his best in s1 tbh. the more airheaded he gets the funnier he gets, sure, but half the appeal of his character is in his fucked-up-ness, his loyalty to his father and purpose, his sheltered nature, and just, like, his flaws. which get sort of. dropped, as the tone shifts from drama + comedy to just comedy, and his asshole tendencies stop being a thing rhe show cares to delve into. he works as a comic relief, I guess? but he was so much more in season 1. an absolute cunt, yes, but you could see where he was coming from. like, yeah, he was also funny, but the fact that that's all that's kept is a huge loss.

everyone else is ALSO at their best, I'm pretty sure, bht the contrast between s1 and s2-forwards is at its starkest with reginald and luther, mainly. not that I dislike s2 and 3 but like. s1 is more compelling as a story. the other two are mostly just fun rides, to me. which is fine. they brought a lot to the table regardless; I really like Ben in S2 and Viktor in general (even in s4 maybe? he's pretty consistently good), and a lot other things I'm sure. I certainly love it when Five kills people to one song or another. and the dance sequences. and like, Lila, in s2.

but s1 is my fave.

Okay, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who was thinking that!! I swear when that dog started licking his face I was like !!! He's going to summon the dogs to save him!!! And then... nothing! So disappointing!

Also, the Five cafe? You're telling me Five and Lila were scavenging the subways for years and never saw another Five in the subway or found the cafe?? (And can you imagine the hilarity and tomfoolery of them finding the cafe as badass platonic besties that weren't stranded for ages?? Lila would've ate that Five cafe up! (much to, I'm sure, the Fives' exasperations))

Kidovna, thoughts on tua s4? For me, I just think it ruined the whole show 😭😭 and so many things don't make sense, like did Lila get lazer beam eyes?? So many questions unanswered honestly and I was rooting for diegoxlila the whole time

I think enough time has passed for me to be able to answer this, so TUA season 4 spoiler warning!

It sucked. Ignoring the fact that they wrote in whatever that was between Lila and Five, the season was just so half assed. Here are some questions I have:

What happened to Sloane after season 3?

Why was Jennifer in that squid?

Why give Klaus all these incredible powers only for him to be rescued by his sister when he was trapped in the grave? Why couldn’t he have summoned dog spirits to have dug him out IN A PET CEMETERY?

Why would five do anything that he did in s4 after spending three seasons sacrificing everything for his family? Why make him and Diego die on bad terms unnecessarily?

Why were five and Lila stuck in the parallel timeline for seven years? What purpose did that serve for the plot?

Why give Reginald all that character development with Viktor if he wasn’t going to fight even a little bit to try and save the world?

Why did Lila have laser beam eyes?

Why did every single character arc except Viktor’s feel so incomplete?

What was the point of this season when s3 had a good enough ending?

And that’s just off the top of my head. Here’s what I liked about s4:
