Hey, I'm Bix, and I'm a writer. You've probably read my story about the daycare at the end of the world and maybe you've read my one about Time Travel and You, which has been surprisingly popular of late. I'm disabled and can't work, and can really use some help getting by. I know there's a lot going on in the world, and not everybody can help- I don't want anybody's last dollar, or anything like that. The Exotic Animal Photo Reference Repository is live!

Here's how this repository works: all photos were taken by me, a human, at zoos, aquariums, sanctuaries, and other facilities with animals in human care. There is no AI involved in the photo editing or creation and there never will be. Right now there's 56 species on the site; my catalog has over 300 and I will be uploading the rest of them as fast as I can.

Artists creating derivative or transformative works (without AI) have blanket permission to use these references. Yes, even for work you're going to sell.

All other usage/reproduction requires permission, but assume I'm friendly and please do ask! That's educators, researchers, the media, people who need images for a school presentation, etc. This is just to retain copyright/control in case they're scraped/reused unethically - it doesn't meant I don't want folk to have access! So please do reach out via the contact form on the repository website, I don't bite and I'm most likely going to say yes.

Please don't repost the repository photos to your own blogs: I've created @animalphotorefs as a dedicated blog to share photos from the site, and of course I'll reblog a lot of it here! That again just helps with retaining copyright and sourcing of the images. If you really want to repost some for a specific purpose, please just ask me first!

Also, folks, this project has no funding. It's just me and my camera.

There will never be a paywall on the site - I believe resources like this absolutely must be free for everyone to access. So please, please, please support the repository if you use it. The January 2025 Blog Update

I've been a multitude of bleh for the last few weeks, so I have not accomplished very many of the things that I had hoped to accomplish, including going through my comments on here and AO3. However, I am pleased as punch to report that I have archived a multitude of my favorite fics from a multitude of fandoms so I can rest incredibly easier.

And that includes saving a whopping 92 fics that I have written!!! (Holy shit how have I written so much since 2019??? Thank you to any and all of you who have been on this journey with me!!!)

I'd hoped to have all my current WIPs (both the ones y'all do and don't know about) done by now, but I don't yet. Alas. Be on the look out for those, though. They're hopefully coming soon.

Also, while I don't plan on losing my accounts or fics anytime soon, I highly recommend you download any of my fics you hold near and dear off of AO3 in case government/political tomfoolery abounds. I'll have copies to share, of course, but an abundance of caution can often be beneficial.

I bought a USB to do a bunch of fic downloads, but I'm slowly and painfully discovering that I wasn't fast enough because some of my favorite fics have been deleted from AO3.

So, if you wrote the Hatake Kakashi / Reader fics Scribbles and A Single Thread of Gold (Tied Me to You), please know I loved them and I'm so sad they're gone.

And if, by some great miracle, someone has pdfs of these fics, please hmu 😭
