Ok. So trump says as soon as he's in office, he's kicking all trans soldiers out of the military. I see a ton of comments from meat heads talking about how it's better that way because it's saving money. Saving money would be refusing to prescribe Viagra to soldiers. From 2016 to 2021, the DOD (department of defense) spent 15 million on transgender soldiers. In 2022 ALONE, the DOD spent 28 million on Viagra. Viagra isn't necessary. If it's all about saving money, the trump administration wouldn't have done a rapid pull out of Afghanistan and left billions in equipment behind. Some people say it's about deployability because you become permanently non-deployable as soon as you start transitioning. Ok. Deployability is important to the military. I can see why that's an issue. Consider, though, that only 60% of the military sees a deployment. Even less see a combat deployment where in-depth medical care isn't available. I deployed to Germany when I was enlisted where we had full access to total healthcare. A good bit of the soldiers approving of the separation of trans soldiers haven't and won't see combat themselves. With retention at an all-time low, you'd think every soldier counts. Apparently not.

That's because removing trans soldiers from the military isn't about cost or deployability. It's about BIGORTY! If the government was worried about bleeding money, they'd stop funding genocide. They'd pay politicians less. They'd stop handing out viagra to any random male soldier that says they can't get it up at 21. I was aviation. 3 million a year is less than my unit would spend on parts and fuel for our aircraft. The cost to treat and retain trans soldiers isn't SHIT to the military. They want them gone because they're BIGOTED.

(In addition, because I got beef with my time in service, worry about your mass amounts of missing soldiers, tons of missing weapons, suicide rates, poor living conditions, internal sexual assault cases, some units refusal to feed their single soldiers, higher ups abusing unit funds and absolutely hateful medical providers for 3ID specifically and maybe we can talk about the cost of caring for our trans soldiers. People, not just trans people, need to stop enlisting into the military of a government that hates you.)

Canada’s retaliatory tariffs on US goods to start from Tuesday

Canada has responded to new US tariffs with retaliatory ones on imports, warning of an “existential threat” from its neighbour, BBC reports.

US President Donald Trump imposed 25 per cent tariffs on goods imported into the US from Canada and Mexico, which took effect overnight, and raised tariffs on goods imported from China.

Canada responded with tariffs on tens of billions of dollars worth of goods imported from the US. The country’s provincial leaders suggested going further.

In addition to the 25 per cent tariffs on goods imported from Canada and Mexico, Trump is also imposing a 10 per cent tariff on Canadian energy products.

Trump’s team characterises the tariffs as a key negotiating tool. The US president wants to crack down on the powerful opioid fentanyl and has repeatedly blamed other countries for the drug’s appearance in the US.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement that the new US tariffs “have no basis in fact” because less than 1 per cent of the fentanyl intercepted at the US border came from Canada.

Trudeau also noted that his country took steps to further restrict the flow of the drug during the month that Trump’s new tariffs were suspended.

Tariffs as “existential threat”

Earlier on Monday, Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly told reporters that Trump’s tariffs posed an “existential threat to us” as thousands of jobs were at risk.

Speaking to the AFP news agency, a car manufacturing employee in the Canadian province of Ontario said people were indeed “pretty scared” of being laid off. “I just bought my first house,” Joel Soleski said. “I might have to look for work elsewhere.”

The car industry is one of those that could be greatly affected by North America’s new tariff regime. Car parts can cross the US-Canada border several times during the manufacturing process, which means taxes can be levied more than once.

Canadian provincial leaders have promised their own responses. Ontario Premier Doug Ford has said that Canadian electricity supplies and exports of high-grade nickel to the US could be cut off.

Canada exports enough electricity to power about six million American homes.

“If they want to try to annihilate Ontario, I will do anything, including cutting off their energy, with a smile on my face,” Ford told NBC on Monday.
