i think a really great aspect of oofuri is how much it gets mihashi's ass for being overly timid and dependent. it would be really easy to write off the way he and abe interact as being abe's fault because he is overbearing, and a lot of people do, but it has some really great moments of going "hey, you cannot hide behind abe or depend on him to make every decision. it's not good for you, or him, or the team."

#oofuri #yeah abe is a little overbearing but it is often because mihashi does not make decisions on his own so abe is just filling in the gaps #because he really and truly cannot make a good guess about what mihashi wants #because mihashi has never said anything about what he wants #but any time mihashi has ever voiced a complaint or suggestion abe takes it into account #he is not dismissive #he just doesn't think to ask because 1. mihashi has never given abe a straight answer to anything 2. abe is not very good at being social!!#autistic teen boy who needs things said simply to him paired up with autistic teen boy who thinks saying things simply will get him killed #abe should ask more but mihashi also needs to say more. abe can't read his mind and he shouldn't have to that's not how relationships work #i get a little irritated at the perception that abe is treating mihashi poorly #what is he meant to do when mihashi doesn't talk to him #i am thinking about the scene where tajima gets mad at mihashi #and tells him 'you can't play baseball with just abe'#because mihashi being incapable of speaking his mind and acting on his own isn't good for the team #and abe will pick up the slack but that isn't how things should be #i did not like the bijou game but i really liked it showcasing the strain it put on abe to make all of the calls #and there is a lot there to be said about how his willingness to do everything but actually pitch for mihashi #stems from how bad catching for haruna was for him #because he felt alone at the catcher's plate the same way mihashi did on the mound #and that. fucking scene of abe begging haruna to pitch. augh. he'll do the rest please just pitch #abe can do everything else as long as mihashi stays on the mound #obsessed with mihashi and abe mutually being so worried that the other person will not be there

listen guys I love Peri a lot too, I think there's a lot about his character worth studying and that he's a good guy but you all have GOT to stop blaming Dev here when Peri is arguably more at fault!

Sure, Dev was mean to him, but Peri was mean back! And Peri is an adult while Dev is a ten year old child, Peri should have the capacity to not complain about him directly to his face, especially considering Dev has been emotionally abused all his life.

Ultimately, I don't consider it to be either of their faults. Sure, Peri was bad at this, but he straight up didn't have any experience except for Timmy, where he took up the role of a brother instead of a parent, a VERY different dynamic. Peri should've gotten like at least 3 different godkids before someone like Dev, to give him a feel for how different kids can be, and how you need to deal with different situations in their own ways. And that's just the lowest I'd advise going, he should've definitely had more.

So I blame the system for throwing him to the wolves fresh out of schooling, especially considering, iirc, Fairy Academy is canonically pretty terrible, as it's more like a military academy than an actual school. He had no proper experience, no way of knowing how to help a kid that doesn't seem to want to be helped...

But if you're going to blame anyone, blame Peri. Not the child that he was supposed to help, the child that he failed.

Mind you, 10 year olds literally don't even have fully developed minds yet, of course his sense of morality is a bit twisted. His brain isn't fully grown!

this whole thing being abt rage is also really interesting. I feel like it comes up so much in fiction as a motive because it's the one emotion that's unifyingly restless while everything else can be petrifying, and just personally nothing hits like impotent rage for me, esp. with teen characters, esp. with characters whose rage is stoked by Someone Else to further that Someone Else's cause. like you'll have done all that in a bout of passion and when you're done you look around you and nothing has changed. those sentiments don't get quelled by being satisfied. righteousness withdrawal is a horrible thing to intentionally drag someone into, least of all just some kids.

like why did they change where Vegeta was when Cell announced the cell games in the anime

why did they make this vegeta starting shit with yamcha instead of chillin in the lab with his family? why did they take Bulma out of the lab? Why'd they say she was Out while Dr Brief was repairing 16? Why did they change Bulma working on advanced robotics to running in late with her baby?

it's the same scene except: - Bulma's actively at work being a scientist - Vegeta's not being rude to her (or anyone else!) - Vegeta waits for Trunks instead of leaving the room - Cell interrupted the airwaves, which means Trunks and Vegeta were just hanging out with Bulma and Dr B while they were working

Those are all Great Character Details!! That the anime rails against!!

While this is definitely one of my least favorite Sherlock Holmes movies I've ever seen - not because it's a silent movie, but because the plot is boring, the romance is extremely unconvincing, and I'm not clear if it understands how to be a movie in general - it sure does have some clips that seem to go somewhat against the bland heterosexuality of the movie's premise.

Especially the first clip. I can't even conceive of the thought process behind the first clip. Truly.

still haven't moved on from zane in this episode (aka I hit tag limit again and am unhappy about it)

#alek insanity #not gonna main tag this but prepare for a tiny rant #home is actually really good zane characterization and its super cool to me how it holds up to this day #s1 characterization is very specific to me because the behaviors displayed by the ninja there (mostly) isnt bc thats how they really are but #its due to societal pressure. cole originally being more 'stone faced tough guy' -> 'down to earth' -> 'really sensible easy to talk to guy'#is because hes always been a sensitive guy... but he felt he couldnt express that true version of himself. thats the whole thing behind his #true potential. jay going from s1 -> s6 -> now is less of societal pressure and more teenager figuring himself out but it still applies. ish #seeing how much the ninja have changed or grown from then to now is amazing because back then they all wore masks. they didnt know each #other all that well. but theyve gained that comfortability with each other and also have grown and matured as people #some seasons / eps characterization for certain people im not a fan of (lloyds random misogyny arc in s13) but i mean the overall trend here #and then there is zane. zane in home was pretty dead on to how he behaves now (at least... when it comes to his faults?) and i dont want to #say people skim over that but i am the sf proclaimed n1 s1e2 fan and overthink every scene. zane's early characterization is some of my fav #for him period. he also goes through a ton of traumatic stuff and a ton of bad writing bouts but why he acts so 'weird' or 'distant' has #always been a thread sewn in. he changed so much he stayed the same in a way... if that makes sense. -> ohhh the ninja get mail and he #doesnt? oh he has no family? he quite literally walks away from that situation. oh the ninja are yelling in his face and asking whats wrong #with him? he literally walks away from that situation. he says its to follow the falcon but seeing how he apologized to them by not only #baking a ton of pies (cough... the food fight is what led to him leaving at first) but he also found them a whole entire new house.#zane is unable to truly value what he does for others. insert him in s11 saying he 'tried' to fufill his goal of protecting others.#everything he has ever done still isnt good enough. then the ninja tried to apologize and he didnt really... let them.#that one post about characters putting on facades and that facade being how people really see them. even in fandom. thats zane to me #the guy who lies about being upset and avoids his problems ran away after being yelled at? and he said he wasnt really mad? that is a lie!!#him being a ~360 when it comes to his character development is neat to me because he never hid behind a mask in the same way the others did #cole wanting to seem tough vs being really soft? kai wanting approval so bad he starts being selfish? kai isnt selfish usually!#he is self centered but that is a whole different thing. just wanting to fit in and breaking free of that. zane's true potential came in the #form of 'i finally know why i am not normal' instead of 'i will be my true self'. zane never pretended to not be weird #(instert book) states he literally didnt know why people got mad at him. he just existed and it was 'wrong'. the mask he hid behind was #avoidance. he was pretty open about how he actually was (most of the time). when he was upset he would audibly sigh and walk away lol #but for him saying he wasnt upset / saddened by the ninja... it felt like a moment of selflessness. if that makes sense. he blamed himself #for the monestary burning down. so he didnt deserve the apologies (ish) in the virtues of spinjitzu zane is shown as the generous one iirc #he puts the needs of others over his own. he will bear whatever burden he needs if others are happy. at that same time he doesnt allow

#Kat and Nia and their multiverse of madness #first rule of interacting with Nia: don’t suggest a dark/whumpy/extremely angsty concept to them #they’ll take it and run a marathon with it and next thing you know their own ideas are making them cry #this is just what happens when I start developing an OC during a rough time in my life #happens every time. guess who came up with Summiya’s fall from grace after their college application fell through??#and since Summiya has a more or less completed storyline. it’s now someone else’s turn #namely Jia’s. also Sunat’s but. mostly Jia’s. Sunat is more angst than whump and I’m craving PAIN #I’ve been frothing at the mouth thinking about Jia all day #just.. imagine how terrified she must have been when she was brought before Jusamah. when he said that he’d make her talk one way or another #and if she doesn’t want to obey and confess willingly… something else can be arranged #how her fear got even worse when she was dragged into the palace dungeons. when she saw the whipping post #begging for mercy as she was stripped and tied. swearing on her life that she doesn’t know anything. that she’s innocent #rambling incoherently right up until the first hit lands. after that it’s just screams and sobs and barely audible ‘I don’t know’s #all the while she’s yelled at by a man three times her age who refuses to believe that she truly doesn’t know anything #and she doesn’t. all she did was point Aiza in a direction. she has no proof she even went in it #I don’t want to get to graphic here but let’s just say I read an article on whipping and it’s.. it’s bad #the aftermath is brutal and bloody and passing out from the pain would be a mercy #and afterwards… I do think someone is called to tend to her so she doesn’t bleed to death before they can get a confession out of her #and that person is kind. if a little detached emotionally. and likely her back could have been salvaged if the whipping didn’t repeat #but it did. because they need her to confess. maybe the excruciating pain of reopened wounds will get her to talk…#it doesn’t. she never says anything. and after a while they move on from torture to locking her up and starving her #maybe that’ll finally break her. perhaps she’s still whipped occasionally even afterwards but for the most part she’s just left alone-#in some dark cell and questioned occasionally. it lasts anywhere from weeks to months and yet she never gives out the one detail she knows #because Aiza’s safety depends on it and she knows Aiza’s punishment will be much worse than hers if she’s caught #but anyway. enough of the bloody horror show. instead think about what it must’ve been like for her parents #the town is alight with scandal following the disappearance of Lady Aiza. you know a bit about her since your daughter works for her #you don’t hear from your daughter for a while. eventually someone tells you that she’s been convicted of helping Lady Aiza run away #she’s been under interrogation since. no one’s seen her but rumour has it they’re torturing her. there’s little you can do as a poor family #you request an audience with Lord Jusamah. it takes a long time to to be granted but eventually you’re before him begging for your daughter #apparently she’s proven to be a useless waste of resources so she’s released to you. you barely recognise her. AND I REACHED TAG LIMIT FML

||. finally going to bed thinking about lore - keeper asgardians . thinking about how intelligence and wisdom are one of their favored traits. thinking about how thor is the best of every asgardian ideal . thinking about how he is wise . thinking about his street - smarts . thinking about how he is also knowledgeable in legends , lore , and folktale. he is adaptable . he takes this knowledge , adapts to it , and crafts himself into something stronger. he is ever growing , and one of those ways is how he seeks out knowledge , and knows well to keep a sharp mind on the tales told by word of mouth or written on a page.
