Having beef with someone is unnecessary and avoidable. Whatever the issue, if not positive, it is an opportunity to cut the excess fat from an unhealthy dietary network. Simply excuse yourself from the table of negativity and lean forward in peace.

"By ill chance, at that place in the outworks stood Gwindor of Nargothrond, the brother of Gelmir. Now his wrath was kindled to madness, and he leapt forth on horseback, and many riders with him; and they pursued the heralds and slew them, and drove on deep into the main host. . . [T]hey burst through the Gate and slew the guards upon the very stairs of Angband, and Morgoth trembled upon his deep throne, hearing them beat upon his doors. But they were trapped there, and all were slain save Gwindor only, whom they took alive; for Fingon could not come to their aid. . . Then in the plain of Anfauglith, on the fourth day of the war, there began Nirnaeth Arnoediad, Unnumbered Tears, for no song or tale can contain all its grief." - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Silmarillion, "Of the Fifth Battle: Nirnaeth Arnoediad"
@tolkienhorrorweek day 1 ⇢ angband + captivity || THE FATE OF GELMIR
[ID: four posters in shades of black and grey, with red and white accents.
1: An image in the lower right corner shows a dark-skinned person with curly hair standing against a wall. A blindfold is tied across their face and one hand is raised to their chest. Three dashed red lines frame the image; one is vertical and overlaps the image on the left side, while the other two are horizontal and cross the figure in the image at their wrist and neck. White vertical text along the first red line reads "Gelmir," while white text in the upper left corner reads "With them they brought Gelmir son of Guilin, that lord of Nargothrond whom they had captured in the Bragollach; and they had blinded him." All text is italicized / 2: Three lengths of chain hanging in the dark. A red rectangle at the bottom of the image contains white italicized text reading "Then the heralds of Angband showed him forth, crying: ‘We have many more such at home," and is connected to the top of the image by a red dashed line on the right side / 3: A tall, long-limbed figure standing in the shadows among stone columns. Same format as Image 2, but the rectangle is at the top, and the dashed line descends from the left side. Text reads "but you must make haste if you would find them; for we shall deal with them all when we return even so.’ / 4: Same format as Image 1, but the orientation is reversed, with image is in the upper left corner showing a curly-haired person silhouetted against bright light coming through a circular window. They are looking over their shoulder at the viewer, but none of their features are discernible. Red lines cut through them at the wrist, neck, and eyes. White text along the vertical line reads "Gelmir," and at the bottom right corner, "And they hewed off Gelmir’s hands and feet, and his head last, within sight of the Elves, and left him." //End ID]

The Human Factor (1975)
"How does this put Mr. Kinsdale in difficulty?"
"He's found his killers. And he doesn't want them in jail. And neither the machine nor I know just how successful he's going to be."
#the human factor#blood tw#edward dmytryk#1975#thriller film#peter powell#thomas hunter#ennio morricone#george kennedy#john mills#rita tushingham#raf vallone#barry sullivan#shane rimmer#haydée politoff#frank avianca#arthur franz#fiamma verges#danny huston#vaguely plodding revenge thriller‚ one of the earliest in the tidal wave of Death Wish clones that followed in the wake of Mike Winner's#pop culture behemoth. regardless of where you fall on Death Wish's merits or lack thereof‚ it was undeniably a brutal‚ shocking‚ punchy fil#this‚ with its respectable cast and slow steady development‚ long scenes of exposition and vaguely defined terrorist threat‚ feels like it#belongs in the 60s. crucially it also lacks a strong emotional hook for the audience: George Kennedy (ever dependable even in bleh like#this) loses his entire family in a bloody massacre‚ but it happens offscreen and we've spent so little time with them that it can barely#register before he's headed on his crusade of vengeance. director Dmytryk does manage some over the top ultra violence for the blood soaked#finále‚ but it's 15 minutes of mayhem that feels out of step with the more ponderous‚ slow moving body of the film. not without some fun#and some memorable imagery (Kennedy with the doll‚ as seen in pics above and featured heavily in marketing for the film‚ was surely an#inspiration on 80s mini series triumph Edge of Darkness‚ no?) but generally this is a bit of a slog and not as rewarding as the set up#could have been.#Morricone's score‚ on the other hand‚ is as effortlessly effective as the maestro ever was

revisiting the "bodies with no faces" argument to prop up a faked corpse theory is. hrm.
#umineko liveblog#thinking back to the first twilight and how everyone except for two people had their faces destroyed#which leaves you with two options. either suspect krauss and/or shannon or suspect everybody except those two#battler's thinking pushes you to the four but none of the siblings or gohda really indicated the ability to do a murderscheme like this#shannon almost definitely knew more about the witch narrative than she let on#but that makes it clear she was killed by mistake and was probably intended to survive for longer than she did#krauss is sly enough to maybe do the fake death thing#but he's not in on the witch narrative so there's no way he could have done any of this#and there's no way genji would permit number one failson supreme to survive#going to the other four. gohda is not relevant enough for this kind of plotting#rosa's character arc was tied up with maria and not the wider series of murders#rudolf had unfinished business with that 'i'm gonna die' thing we never got resolved#but i think if anything that mystery'll tie into solving the epitaph's riddle rather than the actual murder stuff#and kyrie was a tutorial character there to introduce some of the story's themes#she was a little sly and calculating but her whole thing was about how status triumphs over smarts on rokkenjima#so really none of the dead six fit a culprit profile nicely even if it is plausible

like out of all the many, many traumas ive given elspeth my favorite has gotta be the deep roads lol. and specifically the way she never really got OUT of them. yeah so maybe her body did but not HER. shes still down there with ruck and helspith every time she closes her eyes. and during future expeditions when she goes down into the deep roads for real, it doesnt feel like some horrible nightmare it feels like REALITY and its the surface and love and warmth and alistair thats nothing more than a pleasant dream. one shes always going to wake up from. bc even in her happiest moments she's never not aware of the darkspawn digging up towards her just a few miles under her feet. and never not feeling the eyes of the deep roads looking at her, gleefully waiting for her, and knowing its not going anywhere
#i love shale but for elspeth's worldstate i dont recruit her bc im so obsessed w the dynamic of it being elspeth/alistair/oghren/the dog lol#oc: elspeth#tay plays dao#she got SEVERE shell shock being down there in the dead trenches after the realization that came from helspith's poem#why shes never seen any female darkspawn and why there apparently arent as many female wardens either#and like. Understanding that death is the absolute best case scenario for her.#alistair had to 100000% step up as the leader because she was completely out of commission. barely able to breathe let alone fight or lead#going from this unstoppable warrior who NEVER loses her nerve or control on a battlefield#to nearly dying to the broodmother bc she was so fucking terrified. bc all she could see was her own fate mirrored back at her#finally FINALLY understanding what it means to be a grey warden. and then trying to reject that reality with her entire body and soul#she pulls herself out of it enough to get out alive but she never had a moment of like... triumph over the deep roads where she had a burst#of courage and saved the day or whatever. thats not usually how trauma works and so alistair carried them thru that#thru the broodmother and the anvil and branka and back to orzammar just as elspeth was beginning to put herself back together#afterwards the lack of closure to what was one of her ''weakest'' lowest moments rly weighed her down with guilt and shame#and its only a year later during awakening when she finally reconciles with having NO choice but to go back into the deep roads#and being able to kill the mother. THAT helped. that restored some small part of her#gave her the strength to start going back down there when the need arose. resigned to an early death but ready to put up a fight#but ye. still such a fundamentally devastating thing she went thru which altered her entire personality to the point where she starts fully#embracing being a warden (bc how can someone who's seen what shes seen and done what shes done be anything else???)#and INSISTING alistair take the throne despite having always been supportive of his desire not to. even if it means she loses him.#bc its a last ditch effort to save him from the fate she's completely surrendered herself to#sigh. this game man.#i need dadw to Confirm that the grey wardens have found a cure and alistair and hof are safe because jesus christ. my girl NEEDS a win

Both friend and enemy reside within us. One lives by the rule of compassion, the other by the rule of hard knocks. Though potential influence of either extreme is inevitable, our actions bear witness to the one we embrace.

i think i’m finally able to put into words why i think current continuity trying to make JPLV Sr. a character after his death who physically attempted to flee the order with jean-paul is so lacking in what his previous story did narratively: aaaand i lost it. never mind guys come back later
#its like something something it takes away from both the tragedy and the triumph of jp’s story#something something it means something that jplv perpetuated this cycle upon jp and having him be Alive Actually cheapens jps struggle with#what his father left him wrt that cycle#also having to do with the tragedy: jplv trying to tell jp to leave only RIGHT BEFORE his death as hes dying and jp misunderstanding and#falling into it all.#jplv himself is a victim of the same shit and while thats fucked up and sad he still did the same thing his father did to him to jp#and his fathers father before him etc. right up until he had his final chance to help his son and tried to take it and failed#and all that he’d done was executed. and it was jp who tried over and over to crawl out of it and make sense of it himself

bit terrified of how this book is going to end. either if she says yes or no, the execution of it is either going to make this an excellent commentary on grief and death or a glorification of abuse in a thinly veiled attempt at a beauty and the beast story.
#yk.. like those batb tales that ppl write where they miss the whole point#it’s a fairy tale told to children and yet adults don’t understand how to go abt it..#but i’m putting faith in it because i feel like the author sowed too many seeds of unease through this whole novel for it to NOT be#either a tale of triumphing over death or a tragic tale of succumbing to death even while living#please let this be half a step away from a horror fairy tale PLEASE#memorie.txt#live.bookthoughts#book: nocturne#author: alyssa wees
