DC has announced a new line of “comprehensive collections of the most in-demand periods, genres, and characters from across DC history,” called DC Finest.
Scheduled to launch in November, these affordably priced, large-size paperback collections start at $34.99, and will take full advantage of DC’s extensive backlist and appeal to casual and completist fans alike. Focusing on characters and storytelling genres instead of creators or prior series will give casual fans the chance to discover full continuities for their favorite characters, while offering completist readers an affordable option to build out their ultimate collection of stories based on their favorite DC Super Hero or genre.

DC Attempts to Pluck Manga Audiences With “Compact Comics”
Return of the Digest Comic
DC comics recently announced a new trade-paper back format with their Compact Comics Line and with that it brings about a real sore point among comic readers—Trim Size.
Tumblr media
Why Does Size matter?
Price, mostly. Comics are a print product and print costs are a major factor in the price of comics and collections. Larger trim size (along with color printing and typically glossy paper stock) contributes to the price difference between American Comics and Manga volumes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don’t believe me? You can look at the average price difference—Collected American comics averages around $25 US and manga volumes averages around $13 US.
That’s Right We Are Talking American Comics VS Manga

Now they are the comics. You lose the casual…
