"The first step is always the hardest."
You’ve probably heard this before, haven’t you?
Well, I don’t agree.
I don’t agree because everyone can take the first step – it’s not a big deal. Anyone can decide they need a change and think about how they’ll implement it in their day-to-day life. “On Monday, I’ll start dieting.” “I’ll wake up at 5 AM and hit the gym.” Sounds familiar, right?
The thing is, every person you see on the street can do what they say they will.
Once. And then it’s over.
Your neighbor (yes, the one who drinks beer and watches TV all day) can go to the gym once because he doesn’t know how difficult it is. His brain (and our brains, in fact) cannot imagine pain. He’ll enter the gym and start running on the treadmill. Then he’ll lift some weights, but it will feel uncomfortable. Now the brain knows: Gym = pain. Beer + TV = comfort.
The next day, comfort wins.
See why everyone can take the first step? It’s not that hard.
What’s actually difficult is sticking to the plan. Not giving up is difficult. Discipline is difficult. Not eating sugar for one day is alright. Not eating sugar for a month is painful.
When you start your self-improvement journey, you have to think about what you’ll do once the illusion is gone. You have to decide that you’ll do it again and again, no matter how hard it is.
Your journey means more than your first day.

Day 20 of 75 Hard
When I complete today, it'll be the furthest I've ever been in this challenge (made it through day 10 then day 19 in 2021).
The journey so far:
Two 45+ minute workouts, 3+ hours apart, at least one of which must be outside. Because I work 10 hour days in wetland restoration navigating mucky, watery, and steep terrain with ~40lbs on my back, I count those 4 workdays as my outdoor workout. Yes it's already part of my routine, but I wasn't going to not do this challenge just because I'm not fitting another workout in before work.
My other outdoor workouts are all walking and/or running around the neighborhood or on trails. My indoor workouts are push, pull, and indoor cycling days with my buddy, bowling with my husband, and following walk/dance/box/lift/yoga vids at home.
Saturdays are wild because I need to get a walk/run in, then go straight to cycling, and then 3 hours later bowl bc my afternoons are booked and I have to get that outdoor workout in but 3 hours away from another workout. Making it work, though!
I did put together an idealized workout schedule to train for the 5 mile trail run my buddy and I signed up for 2 weekends after we complete 75 Hard. Already had to adjust because I twisted my ankle yesterday, so I used that opportunity to try Qigong (followed by 45 min yoga). We'll see if I should stick with walking today or if I can throw in a few 3-4 minute runs.
Honestly, the toughest part of this rule is the scheduling and getting started. I really enjoy the physical activity when I'm in the flow of it.
Take a progress picture. This has been beneficial for me in a way I couldn't predict. The mirror has always surprised me, like "oh, that's what I look like?" It always shows me as curvier, less athletic than I picture myself. Might stem from a grey area of body dysmorphia and gender dysphoria. It's one of the things I'm talking with my therapist about.
But now that I'm taking a picture of my body every day, I'm realizing that what I'm seeing in the mirror looks better than what I'm seeing in the photo, giving an element of valuing what I see in the mirror. Like, I can more positively accept that that's me. So that's cool.
10 pages of reading a "think about your life" nonfiction book. I read The Book on Mental Toughness, which the creator of 75 Hard wrote. 3 of 5 stars. I might write an extended review, but a lot of the book was like watching a car crash. Yeah, the author's mentally tough, but he's not very well read sociologically. It'll be a tougher read for anyone who's nonbinary, living with intergenerational trauma, or can't stand editing/formatting issues. But there was some insightful info about 75 Hard and the continued LIVEHARD program, and I really benefited from the chapter on drinking water.
Currently reading Weave the Liminal: Living Modern Traditional Witchcraft, which I'm fully enjoying.
Books I'm considering reading next are Rest is Resistance: Free Yourself from Grind Culture and Reclaim Your Life / How to Make Friends & Influence People / The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius / Pleasure Activism: The Politics of Feeling Good / and Keeping It Living: Traditions of Plant Use and Cultivation on the Northwest Coast of North America.
If anyone has a recommendation for books on Inanna, Ishtar, Astarte, or Aphrodite/Aphroditus, I'm looking to learn more about their part in trans history.
Drink 1 gallon of water. I have to stick with a 90oz goal. I've tried multiple times in the past to drink a gallon a day and always wound up with a horribly sore throat after a few days. Last time, it made me sick for 2 weeks. So 90oz of unflavored water is definitely way more than I'd drink normally (32oz on a good day) but without dipping back into unhealthy territory. There are some days that I can drink more (allowing me to get in some Gatorade, preworkout, or BCAAs), but I also have a steady supply of good cough drops at hand.
I try to get in 32oz before lunch, another 32oz by 5pm, and 26oz+ before sleepy time.
Follow a diet. No cheat meals or alcohol. I'm focused on getting 100+ grams of protein a day (macro balancing and calorie deficit are secondary but seem to be happening naturally). I've also cut out chocolate (this is how I know I mean business), sugary drinks, gluten, and microwavable mac n' cheese type meals.
This is really forcing me to get my act together when it comes to planning/prepping. No more going to the coffee stand for a burrito and red bull before work. I have to either cook breakfast or nom on a protein bar. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and at least 2 snacks all have to be protein-centric for me to meet my goal. It's wild to think of how little protein I must have been getting. But now I'm full, and then I'm hungry! There's no middle ground of kinda-hungry filled with chips and milk teas. All this meal prepping and forcing myself to eat well for 75 days will probably be one of the most beneficial things I've ever done for myself.
Tangentially, cutting out chocolate meant cutting out my herbal calm chocolate supplements I always had at night to help myself wind down. Now I have to get off my phone earlier and stretch/meditate/read to get myself prepped for bed. It's good stuff.
Also, I don't drink alcohol, so there's no challenge for me there.
Overall: I'm so glad I'm doing this. This is helping me live my life the way I actually want to live it. I'm developing daily discipline and gaining insights into myself. I've lost 6lbs, my clothes fit better, and I can navigate terrain more easily. I'm enjoying trails in my free time. I was wishy-washy about my goals when I tried 75 Soft a couple months ago, and so didn't stick with them. With 75 Hard, my commitment is unquestionable. This is what my life looks like for the next 56 days. Afterward, I'll take what I like and ditch anything I don't.
If you're considering 75 Hard yourself, do make a game plan. Figure out what your diet is going to be and shop for it. Know how you'll track your water. Schedule a week or two of workouts that help you fulfill a goal (finding out what's fun for you, increasing strength/flexibility/speed, getting outside, hanging out with someone, whatever). Get a book. Give yourself this Day 0 to set yourself up for success.
Then START :D

🐊 wed, aug 7 / day 3 of my 14 days of productivity. something is sapping my energy, i woke up much later than planned and didn't get to do my workout in the morning. lucky, i think i know what it is and will be snuffing the problem out promptly. i'm making up for it right after this post! i run a quote bot for twitter, so while at work i updated that with some lines from my recent readings & new music i've enjoyed. today was a very short shift, mostly to continue getting used to the location and drive and meeting more coworkers. i'll probably finish my audio book in the next day or two, based on my current pace. it's quite a heavy topic and hits rather close to home, so i've picked up a pre-teen book to follow it and get used to reading physical books again! my next non-fiction read on my radar doesn't seem to have an audio book anywhere except audible which i refuse to download (love my library & library apps too much), so i'll have to just get the physical copy when i'm ready. i'm at 9 books this year, a little ahead of my 1 book a month schedule as i include manga as well as of right now.
🌾 today's finished tasks
journalling about my book
make lunch for tomorrow
🥝 today's remaining tasks
set laundry to wash & put it away
power yoga workout
evening tea
#💬#i will probably journal more tonight as i have some social-ish concerns i need to bring to therapy#Edit: WORKOUT WAS TOUGH BUT IT'S DONE

My top 10 / ESC 2024
There isn't a specific ranking of these ten because my favourites really depended on my mood. (Also Moldova, sweetie, I am so sorry you were robbed)
Ukraine 🇺🇦
It came to my attention that people don't like the song and I'm like???? Have you seen the staging??? Also they did really well on the final besides starting second. Ukraine is just really good at serving in this contest.
Armenia 🇦🇲
In my humble opinion one of the best ethnic pop representation this year. I enjoyed every moment of it and I got really scared in the semifinal that they wouldn't make it but they did and slayed.
Netherlands 🇳🇱
Well, sadly, we didn't get the opportunity to enjoy this song in the Grand Final. But it was the first Eurovision song that I listened to this year and I really enjoyed it. It would have come far in the final.
Croatia 🇭🇷
This one was the winner of the Televote, unsurprisingly. It isn't my favourite genre but I like songs I can scream to and just like Europapa, this was an early listening of mine and yeah.
Switzerland 🇨🇭
My beloved. Truly an artwork and, in my opinion, a deserved winner of this contest. Is it the best song? Juries voted so. (And I voted so) A very sympathetic artist and very talented.
Ireland 🇮🇪
HONESTLY HOW POETIC WOULD IT HAVE BEEN OF IRELAND TO WIN IN SWEDEN AND CLAIM THE THRON AGAIN? Also I had no idea what happened on stage but I liked the vibe so I voted for it. :)
France 🇫🇷
Where was the French flag? NO but honestly, this was a really great song and I thought that he would do better in the Jury voting. Maybe even take the trophy home. Would have been as deserved as Switzerland.
Norway 🇳🇴
Norway's result is really sad. The problem is that the Eurovision audience is highly unpredictable and that this wouldn't to well in the Juries wasn't a surprise. I LIKE THE SONG. (Otherwise it wouldn't have been in the top ten) But I just realised we could've had KEIINO and now I feel a really tiny bit robbed.
Germany 🇩🇪
I AM SO HAPPY that this didn't end up last and that he got recognised by the Juries because his voice really didn't deserved the last place AT ALL. Also the more you listen to it, the better it gets (which is actually the case for most German entries). And he got criticised because of his appearance and that wasn't really cool, so I am happy he shut their mouths.
Austria 🇦🇹
Well. I've seen the result coming because her vocals didn't quite turned out well in the semifinal and it got better in the final but she had to perform after France, who delivered.
#eurovision#not sure if I wrote thron correctly#IS IT THRONE?#oh#it is#oopsie#deal with my mistakes I didn't sleep#not an excuse#i really get patriotic when it comes to Ireland in Eurovision#the problem: I'm not irish#but I always vote for the irish representative in the semifinal (if I am allowed) and in the final (if they make it)#I truly apologise for this but I am going to repeat it next year#Sweden was btw a true letdown this year can't change my mind#also loreen casually dropping her core workout as interval act#AND *why* invite Johnny Logan and then let him perform Euphoria#like???#you called him the king of esc and then don't let him sing his song??#is there a tag limit?#I am about to find out#also that AIbba thingy???#anyways#see you next year#coming back for the suffering#also uk getting zero public votes was tough after getting ranked top 15 everywhere#I'd say that was a shocker#I mean even juries gave them points?#but they are used to it#and didn't end up last#so yeah

SEL .... you know I have to ask col couple for 10. I'm not even sure it's it's possible.
omg niku 🥺 thanks for asking 🥺
ask me anything from this fanfic couples/relationships ask game!
10. has just been struck by a magic spell, and now they're mortal enemies! What happens now?
omg... i don't even know what to think of this. jshdfhjsa. for your true enemies to lovers heart, i think... there's just something they can't stand about each other. for col reader, it's probably frustration that gojo can't be genuine for one second of his life. col reader is observant in a way that they can kinda see through him, and can also understand a lot of gojo's intentions—which is why it's frustrating that there's always some twist-y, roundabout way that he goes about it all the time. he never says what he means, and in some ways can seem dishonest, which col reader hates.
for gojo, it's probably the fact that col reader can see through him so well LMAO. i think he hates that he's seen. hates that his intentions can be read so clearly—which is why he tries even harder to hide it. col reader always manages to call him out, smth like 'you don't have to pretend here, gojo' and it's genuine. it grates on his nerves even more because col reader is right.
they don't get paired often for missions because their techniques work better alone, but col reader typically gets roped in when the higher ups have problems with gojo—mainly because they see col reader as the next person who understands him best, and the only other person that gojo adjusts for (even though it is to become just more insufferable). col reader hates it, feels like they're some kind of babysitter (which frustrates them even more because if gojo could just be honest, and quit going the roundabout way with things, then maybe, the higher ups would understand that he won't go psycho rogue.
i think col reader gets full of it, and honestly confronts him (but still nicely). is probably like 'you'd make things a lot easier for everyone if you were just upfront about it, you know.' and gojo tries to evade it again, but col reader cuts him off and is like, 'you aren't dumb enough to think that's going to work on me, gojo.' and it's like oh shit, cos col reader is serious now. AND I THINK that's maybe where it starts. it probably intrigues gojo in that weird gojo way of his—smth smth with the idea that his shenanigans can get past most of everyone but col reader is honestly quite done with his shit.
#i think with everyone else gojo just kinda acts freely? not rlly caring what they think or feel#but with col reader because he feels so seen i think he purposely exaggerates how he's acting; so it feels like he's adjusting a bit#ANYWAY#THIS WAS RLLY TOUGH TO THINK OF#COS idt its in col readers personality to hate anyone or even be mad at anyone hsdfbsa#so even when they are kinda pissy w gojo i feel like they never lose temper hjfbdsfk#its still very civil?? IDK#ask#this made my brain workout a lil#rep#ask game#niku.🥩#stellamancer
