Just read your post about Tonks. Tonks surely was a student of Snape's. Just imagine. Tonks. In Potions. With Snape. Tonks, canonically the clumsiest character of the entire series. Potions. The SUBTLE science and EXACT art of potion-making. NO foolish wand-waving or silly incantations. Tonks is not subtle and exact. Tonks is foolish and silly. And that, to Snape, is INFURIATING. However, Tonks is an Auror. This means Tonks succeeded in getting an Outstanding O.W.L in Potions. This means Tonks took Potions N.E.W.T. This means Snape was probably hoping and praying he would never see her face again after her 5th year but SURPRISE. The girl is SMART and Snape is, unfortunately for him, a fair grader (yes he is idc what people say). I want to see this. I want to see Tonks being an absolute clumsy mess in Potions and Snape being livid but at the same time frustrated because he knows she has potential but she's just not careful and she's witty and talks back and he can't just truly hate her. THIS brings me to the scene in HBP where Tonks brings Harry to the gates after he got knocked out by Malfoy on the train. She sends a Patronous inside the school to get the gates opened. Snape comes and tells her that he noticed her Patronus had changed (now a wolf so cute omg). Therefore, Snape remembers her Patronus from before, but it's like he catches himself and makes a sly remark about her new Patronus being weak because it's a wolf. Like a father disapproving of his daughter's choices for falling in love with a mangy werewolf (love you Remus). Idk I loved that scene because it hints that they have a bit more history together than we think. It could also just be from both being part of the order, but I feel there is a bit more. What do you think dear tumblr friend?

I think she and Snape were buddies. As much 'buddies' as Snape can manage with a student, anyway.

There is a reason Tonks stomachs Moody so well - and its because she's had A LOT of practice with grumpy hard asses. She takes biting comments well, she isn't ever afraid to dish humor back, she knows well when to take things seriously and when to help lighten the mood - handy for people who can't relax easily.

She trained those teeth on Snape, I guarantee it. She LIKES bastards. She enjoys making people happy, she enjoys exceeding expectations, she likes proving herself reliable - and bastards are the hardest to please. She doesn't see blemishes or ugliness or scars - just the person. She likes making them smile.

She's clumsy. She's a disaster. He can't ignore her no matter how much he might want to sometimes - because she might die... ...and yet, her skill is obvious. She pulls through when she needs to. I like to think Potions might have been one of her worst subjects - but she worked hard at it, and enjoyed it, and asked questions.

Not just "Did I chop the Mudwort root thin enough, Sir?" But "Ey, Prof - if this potion utilities the healing properties within the cells of the root, shouldn't we be grinding it rather than slicing it...?" You know. She's actually invested, deeply learning about the topic, willing to experiment. Making him answer with thought. "...No, breaking the cell wall makes it burn away too quickly. We slice thinly to ensure good, even absorption."

And then her cauldron explodes later anyway because she accidentally tipped some leaves in with the slices. Oops. BUT... she will stay behind to fix it. She will ask to practice when she has free time. She isn't talented, nor careful - but its hard not to appreciate her enthusiasm and her dedication to success. He spent a lot of time with her. Being able to mark her a genuine "O" in her NEWTs was one of his proudest moments as a teacher.

Perhaps it's part of why Hermione annoys him so much, too - she appeared like an interested student on the surface, having read her books... but she never stepped the fuck up. She never tried. She never pushed it. She never used her brain. An insufferable know-it-all is ONLY better than a complete dunderhead in that they're safer to have in the classroom. But she doesn't encourage other students learning, she doesn't push herself, she doesn't actually care about the topic... just getting everything right, to prove she is smart or whatever.

Same with Neville: A clumsy oaf that seems to do nothing at all to mitigate that fact. barely even stays behind to clean his own messes. They say Longbottom is 'frightened of him' - well he isn't there to coddle him. He never needed to coddle Tonks. She took his bite as a challenge to do better and soared because of it. She was an oafish moron... but a rare gem.

...And then she started dating FUCKING LUPIN The first thing he said when she was so obviously showing interest it made him feel ill was "...You know he is a werewolf, yes?" And when she responded "Yeah, duh - what of it?" He groaned "Of course... you've never had any common sense..." And the look he snapped at her when she cheekily said "...Gave you hell at school, too - didn't he?"

Tonks teased him. Of course she did. There were days when he walked into class to see she had turned into a foolish version of him... But she knew how to hold back. She is a highly empathetic woman. Even when she was young... the few times she sensed perhaps she went too far: She was mature enough to apologize. Sensitive enough to realize he would not want such apology in front of others, either - and wait till after class to hang her head. It was difficult to stay mad at her. She was just too damn earnest.

In many ways: She reminded him of Lily. Firey, obsessed with magic, popular, friendly - brightened up every room she entered. Seemingly cared about everyone. Even him. It was just... pleasant. Familiar. She was a very different person, of course - but interacting with her felt a little like home. Perhaps a few times a little piece of him slipped out to her - something more juvenile and playful than he has been for years.

...That's what I think, tumblr friend B^) I think its a good thing they didn't find out eachother had died. They would have been distraught for eachother.

But if they both lived...? I think she could have been the thing that healed Snape and Lupins relationship. They both care for her - and can at least be civil with eachother for her sake.

Imagine: post-war family BBQ's with Snape and Lupin arguing over how to cook. Lupin wants to prove himself handy but Snape knows he's fucking useless. (Tonks is the true BBQ dad.) Snape babysitting Teddy. He'd be such a good uncle.

EDIT: Remus and Tonks were BOTH awful at potions. Tonks at least became competent through sheer effort - but they still both go to beg him for help when they need anything. I think Lupin/Tonks/Snape would be fun :^)

i love thinking about them…sorry this took so long, i was busy lounging and watching killing eve. i might type up something about the dynamic between the three of them, but i broke them down into pairs here.

bella & cissa ♛

i made a webweave here that basically sums up my thoughts on bellacissa. i do think cissa thinks she’s a fanatic and completely bonkers, but she’d defend her anyway. narcissa appreciates that in their patriarchal fucked up family, bella is carving her own path—she isn’t docile or ladylike at all. so cissa takes some vicious pleasure in how unleashed bella is. conversely, bellatrix has a deep-seeded jealousy FOR narcissa, who is at least able to play the part of the perfect pure blood woman in a way bellatrix never could. my vision is that druella has contempt for bella but pays a lot of attention to narcissa. once druella is dead, bella sees narcissa as both her baby and her mother in a way, and she resents both. but i won’t get into bella here she deserves her own post.

bella & andy ♞

the hardest relationship for me is bella and andy. my belief is that these two are one year apart in age, like irish twins. we know from dh that they’re basically identical. I think they were pitted against each other a lot. they both end up teaching each other how conditional someone caring for you can be. it’s obvious that andy leaving really wounds bella (as evidenced by the ferocity with which she wants to kill ted and tonks), so there is a degree of power andy hold over her emotionally. bella is both the terrorist and the protector in the home. she goes after both her sisters, but it’s with the ultimate goal of making them strong enough to face anything that’s thrown at them…andy doesn’t want to change her or save her—she knows all the dark, evil parts of her and grapples with all the times bella showed her tenderness or turned her rage against someone else for her sake. i think they can read each other’s body language perfectly, but don’t understand each other’s minds at all. once they’re older they fight all the time, verbally if not with magic, and it would start with bella making some pointed jabs to get her attention and andy curating a biting response without looking up from her magazine and just like that they’re dueling. but once it’s over and they’re panting on the floor, bella would kick her leg and they’d smirk at each other a bit. or one of them would storm out. i do think that andy did bella’s hair for every event they attended between the ages of 8 and 16. huh, i guess i have more to say about them than i thought i did.

andy & cissa ♝

narcissa spends years stepping in the footprints andy has left behind. before she figures out who she is, she’s just a ghost of andy. she learns all her best defenses from her. i don’t think andy feels very bad about leaving her behind. i don’t think she’d try to convince narcissa to go with her either. she would miss her so much, but she’d grieve her like she’s dead. i don’t see her as a person who holds on to a lot of regrets. and she’s in love! she wants to run away and forget every bad thing that ever happened to her! is that a crime? narcissa thinks it is. growing up andy was her strongest ally, and she takes it as the ultimate betrayal when she leaves. similarly to regulus, she looks down on andy and maligns her whenever her name comes up, but it’s a cover up for how hurt she is. andy knows all the reasons that narcissa thinks she’s trapped in the life she leads, but she still thinks ‘if you want out, get out.’

daughters 1, 2, 3 ♙

fairy tales often follow a 1 2 3 format because it’s easy to remember a moral lesson tied up with a bow when it comes in a set of three (three billy goats, beauty and the beast, the peverell brothers). it goes bad bad good. so it’s super interesting that the ostensibly “good” one, andy, is the middle child. she is bookended by two death eater sisters. which raises the question: what went wrong (or right) with her? and for the others too—narcissa in canon is primarily draco’s mother, but giving her andromeda AND bellatrix as sisters raises all kinds of questions about her upbringing and interpersonal relationships. bellatrix chases and scolds narcissa at the beginning of half-blood prince, and she’s not particularly scary at all. the terrifying evil bitch who killed sirius calls her sister cissy? three sisters who mean vastly different things to harry, but we never get the three of them in a room, so so much is left to the imagination. lots to play with. good things come in threes!

Harry didn't talk about what happened in the Forbidden Forest. Yes, everyone knew that he died—that Voldemort had killed him, more accurately. Hagrid hadn't stopped telling anyone who would listen about it. But no one knew what happened while he was gone—dead. Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, had died. Then he came back (and it was quite a shame only Hermione appreciated his Jesus joke). Harry hadn't even truly understood all that happened while at King's Cross. Not until after the battle. After Harry defeated Voldemort once and for all. After the man who turned himself into a monster died just like any other wizard. Like Fred, and Remus and Tonks. He couldn't outrun death, because no one could. Harry wasn't proud of the way he collapsed after dealing the final blow, as he felt how well and truly hollow he was inside. He couldn't properly breathe, like there was a gaping hole in his chest that threatened to swallow him whole. He didn't remember much till Ron and Hermione showed up. Then he had his best friends to lean on as he cried. They helped carry him away as the survivors rushed forward, and despite Voldemort’s death, the battle continued. Word spread like wildfire. “Voldemort is dead!” echoed off the broken castle walls, in much the same way the Death Eaters had declared his own death a mere thirty minutes ago. Or was it an hour? He had no idea. He only heard second-hand accounts of what came after. At the time, he could only think of his death. He needed to know what happened to him. His friends helped him inside, and he could stand on his own two feet again. “Hermione,” Harry rasped. “Your bag. I need your bag.” She frowned. “What? What for?” He waved his hand impatiently. “I don't have time to explain. There's something I need to do, and I need both of you to help the others catch the stragglers.” With Ron's insistence backing him up, Hermione gave Harry her Ever-Expanding Bag and they ran towards the Great Hall. Harry tightened his grip on the drawstring bag and marched up to the Headmaster's office. The pensieve was still where Harry and his friends had left it. He dipped inside and watched Snape’s dying memories again. And again. Then he remembered. With a simple accio, he pulled The Beetle and the Bard from Hermione's bag. He didn't feel right sitting in Dumbledore’s—or was it Snape’s now?—chair, so he sat in the smaller, less ornate one and reread the children's story. The story of the Deathly Hallows. Harry still had all three. His cloak was in his pocket, the stone in the snitch, and the wand was clutched in his dirt-streaked hand. But that wasn't the interesting part. He'd been so sure that it was Dumbledore. Why wouldn't he be? He knew the man was dead, he'd been his mentor in life, surely in death he could be as well? “He greeted Death like an old friend.” And Harry had. He had met Death at a crossroads—and what was more poetic than King's Crossing, the physical manifestation of the split between Harry's muggle and magical worlds? And he came back. Didn't that make him Death's Master? Only the realisation hadn't fixed the gaping hole in his chest.

Molly/Snape/Arthur? The Weasley kids+Harry figured the first Weasley family Christmas since Fred died would be a bit uncomfortable and emotionally fraught… and they were right, they just never could have imagined the exact reason

i entirely back the idea of shipping snape with both molly and arthur individually, and so i think that - unusually for the throuples i deal with in this series - this is actually going to be a non-toxic triad...

one of the things which i think is really undervalued by the fandom is how the domestic role both molly and arthur [molly especially] play within the order is absolutely central to the order's ability to do its job. this is the case for molly's domestic labour - the resistance needs people who can cook and clean just as much as it needs people who can fight - but it's also the case for the emotional support both molly and arthur are shown in canon to provide for order members [especially tonks and lupin in half-blood prince].

snape existing outside of these experiences - refusing to engage with the order as a community by not eating or socialising with them - is a metaphor for the isolation his role as a spy brings [as well as a way of keeping the reader guessing about where his loyalties actually lie...].

but i think it's entirely plausible - especially given both molly and arthur's canonical willingness to take in waifs and strays - that both weasleys attempted a lot during order of the phoenix to get him to join them for meals and chat.

and i also think that one of the most profound examples of love - one which the series, which prioritises love-as-suffering and love-as-sacrifice [which snape's silent work in lily's memory encapsulates], hugely underappreciates - is love-as-comfort. i think you could do a lot with snape - a bitter, lonely, cold, hungry man - being cajoled by the twin forces of molly's nagging and arthur's affability into staying for a bit of rhubarb crumble, and this single act sparking something genuinely compelling between them...

[after all, as those of us in both snapemort and snumbledore nation know... he definitely has a weakness for being told what to do...]

because snape must respect molly and arthur - at least as much as he ever respects anyone. he doesn't insult them [at least in harry's hearing], arthur's mere presence in the room is enough to stop him and sirius fighting in order of the phoenix, and - of course - he puts himself in genuine danger [since voldemort doesn't strike me as the sort of person who'd think it was automatically fine for snape to have cut off one of his fellow death eaters' hands - even if it was "an accident"] to try and save george's life.

and so i also think you could do something really interesting with this triad post-war.

both molly and arthur - who, after all, stays in post at the ministry after voldemort's takeover until april 1998 - are well-placed to appreciate what snape had to go through as a spy. they are also - especially following fred's death - well-placed to appreciate how utterly grief changes your life, how you would do anything to soothe the pain of your grief, and how some of the things which help distract you are duty and fear - which means that, without the immediate need to keep going which war brings, your grief crashes down all the harder.

i'm always struck by sirius’ statement in order of the phoenix that arthur is a man who understands that “there are things worth dying for” in war. but i think that [very much unlike sirius...] arthur also demonstrates throughout canon that he understands the flip-side of this - that there are things worth living for, but that it's often harder to live for something than to die for it.

a snape who’s miraculously survived nagini’s bite [something else he and arthur have in common!], who finds himself unmoored in a world in which he’s just… free is a trope i adore. and i am very much invested in the idea that his extremely complicated journey towards being able to carry his grief without buckling under the weight would mesh very nice with molly and arthur's own, by providing an outlet for molly's canonical interest in caring for people and arthur's canonical interest in fixing things which allowed them to feel like they were doing something which made not just falling to pieces worth it.

Good question, anon! I was hoping to get this new marriage law story posted when I'm done with it. I'm thinking it will be 50k ish? I'm about 10k words in!

How about a snippet to tide you over? This story's going to be told from alternating Remus and Tonks POVs!

Remus sat back and thought of the weekend ahead. If it wasn’t for Lily and Amelia, he would’ve had to work on Saturday and Sunday. Peter had whined about working the whole weekend and missing time with his son. In the end, James, Sirius, and Peter decided to take turns, so that Peter would only be alone on Sunday morning, when James would be dropping off Harry at King’s Cross for his first year at Hogwarts. Sirius insisted on seeing his godson off, but he would return to the shop as soon as he could to help Peter. 

Remus would be at his cottage with his new wife and trying to get to know her, if she let him. 

“Do you have dress robes?” asked Lyall. He came downstairs with a velvet box in his hand. 

“Lily ordered them for me. They’ll be ready by Thursday. She and Amelia, Sirius’s wife, are working on my cottage as we speak.”

“Working?”

“Lily suggested a few changes to make it homier for a witch. Amelia had the idea to put in some plants and decorations that would make it feel like the Hufflepuff common room.”

“That’s generous of them.”

Remus shrugged. He’d thought his cottage was in fine shape. It needed some cleaning, which he was happy to do himself, but Lily suggested more ‘feminine’ touches and Amelia joined in with florals and greenery. 

“Have you thought of what you’ll do after the wedding?”

“. . . no?”

“You might want to invite her parents over for tea. They would appreciate that, I’m sure.” Lyall slid the box across the table. “I’ll offer to take us out for lunch.”

“You don’t have to—”

“It’s a good idea to put our best foot forward.”

“You mean to show them that I’m not a monster who will eat their only daughter?” 

“Remus, even if you weren’t—” Lyall shook his head. “Even if you weren’t infected, we’d still want to make a good first impression.”

I have a headcanon that she has a pair of Bill's old dragon hide boots that she magically shrank to fit her, and she wears all the time because they're cooler than the shoes Molly bought her for school.

Also, one of Tonks' Weird Sisters t-shirts that Andromeda gives her post-canon, because 'Nymphadora would want someone to appreciate it'.

12. What's the funniest or craziest AU idea you've ever come up with?

More canon-divergent than AU but I want to write something set during HBP before the Ginny/Dean and Ron/Lavender break-ups where Harry, Ron and Dean accidentally drink a potion that makes them switch bodies with their true loves...

Harry switches with Ginny, Ron switches with Hermione, and Dean switches with Seamus. Lavender takes it well.

Alright, well, before we really get into what mod revival was, we first need to talk about the thing that mod revival itself was reviving, which was mod. As a subculture that first sprang up sometime in the 50s, mod was originally something like a British extension of American beatnik culture. Mods were more or less the equivalent of what hipsters are today—they were especially into foreign films, fashion, Vespas, modern jazz, and all night drug-infused dance parties.

And because coffee bars had jukeboxes and were actually open later than regular bars and pubs, the mods would congregate well in to the wee hours in those establishments, with soundtracks that were set to jazz and blues. But then in the 60s, rock and power pop really began to take hold too, and as a result, bands like The Who would end up adopting a mod look for themselves, with this whole updated mod phenomenon then spreading to the US, along with Beatlemania and the rest of the British Invasion as well.

And then in the late 70s, mod culture made its return to the UK in the form of mod revival. As something that was way more focused on the musical aspects than mod itself ever was, the mod revival scene was made up of bands who'd been raised on the power pop / mod rock sound of the 60s and sought to mix those old elements with the fresher sounds of modern new wave and punk rock. The band The Jam, whose own blue, red, and white 'target' logo had been adopted from The Who's themselves, fused a 60s-type R&B sound with that of The Who's, and in 1979, the rock opera film Quadrophenia was released as well, which was loosely based on The Who's own 1973 album of the same name, and depicted the original mod subculture too. It was this combination of both The Jam and the release of the Quadrophenia movie that really ended up sparking the whole mod revival scene into its own existence, enabling it to insularly last in the UK all the way up until sometime in the mid-80s.

So what we have with this playlist here then is a little intro into some of those earlier, pre-80s days of mod revival—a whole ball of fun, regionally specific power pop energy that contains streaks of punk that range from small to pretty substantial. And I guess the song to talk about first is the one that not only fronts the playlist, but is also currently rolling around in my head as I write up this post: "Sema 4 Messages" by Sema 4. As a song with only a little over 5.6K plays, "Sema 4 Messages" is one that's really as catchy as they come. Released in the same year as The Cars' own 1978 debut power pop anthem of "Just What I Needed," this one happens to come with a familiar intro of splash-struck guitar chords placed against a relatively sparse backdrop too, before revving itself up into full-on, clangy glory, with a distinct rubber-buzzy bassline to complement it all too. Love the midpoint break in it as well, as the band reloads for a whole second half of pretty much the same exact thing as the first 🤘.

Also gotta appreciate the unexpected and extremely early bit of honky tonk-cowpunk that appears on the bridge of Fast Cars' "The Kids Just Wanna Dance" too. There's no actual fiddle in this piece of super catchy and anthemic pop-punk that currently has over 100.1K plays, but this band nevertheless replicates as best they can the sound of one with their own guitars here. And as the first real-deal UK cowpunk bands wouldn't come along until the following decade, it sure is remarkable to hear a glimmer of that very genre in this specific song here, especially when there's absolutely no inkling that something like that would even be on the track in the first place, until the Fast Cars actually reach that bridge 😮.

There's a version of this song that's on Spotify as well, but that one's really just not nearly as good as this one is. An exemplary piece of mod revivalist power pop that'll have you scratching your head as to how and why this London band only managed to release a single 7-inch in their career.

How many works do you have on AO3? 42 as of now, which is wild considering a year ago I had like. 10 and didn't think I was going to start any new ones! I was purely a longfic writer back then and now I've really branched out.

What's your total A03 word count? 1,035,021 words hehehe

What fandoms do you write for? Well right now I almost entirely just write MCU fic (particularly Parkner) and also HP foefic, but I've also written quite a bit for Naruto, BNHA, Bleach and KHR!

What are your top 5 fics by kudos? What it Takes (Naruto) - AU in which Naruto grows up knowing what it takes to achieve his goals and being a fair bit more competent as a result. Still an ADHD gremlin, also genderfluid in this one. Feat. Naruto And The Boys polycule including queerplatonic Naruto/trans guy Hinata and romantic NaruSasu

Shared Power (BNHA) - fic in which Midoriya unlocked Blackwhip instead of super strength at the entrance exam, and progresses through unlocking the stored quirks of OFA. Feat. t4t gay tododeku with demisexual demiromantic Midoriya

Daisy Evans, the Girl Who Stood True (Harry Potter) - trans girl potter gets taken in by the Tonks family after finding her way to a trans Meetup when Hagrid first brings her to Diagon alley. Intending to write all 7 books, currently almost finished book 2. Feat. t4t Daisy/Ginny and also me having lots of fun with autistic good!ravenclaw!Draco getting character development and a safe environment (eventually, and he doesn't start out good or in ravenclaw)

Scrapyard Tinkering and Bisexual Awakenings (MCU/Parkner) - a fic idea I wrote out on a whim and then kept writing, in which a 14yo Peter fresh back from Germany encounters new transfer student at Midtown, Harley Keener, and has a bisexual awakening there and then. Very soft and fluffy! I have plans to one day write some more in that fic setting, and ideally write a sequel fic that features a prom for queer teens in new York that gets interrupted by an alien invasion. In which I will write my very own rarepair I thought of, Ned Leeds/Kurt Wagner!

Tales of a Scientific Ninja (Naruto) - my probably abandoned very first ever fic I wrote. In theory I would like to finish writing it because I have the whole plot roughly outlined for what is now a 150k word fic and could be a 300-400k word fic but I just don't know if I'll have the inspiration or time. Isekai OC becomes Naruto's twin and houses the other half of Kurama. By the power of autism, develops a special interest in fuinjutsu and achieves mastery at a 'young age' (in reality they retained their cognitive maturity from their past life and accordingly had a head start)

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes! When I have the spoons I try to respond to as many comments as I can. I really appreciate comments because I love engagement with my readers <3

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Other than my oneshots and scrapyard I have literally not finished a fic ever but none of them have an angsty ending. I would say that maybe Tales of a Scientific Ninja would have an angsty-ish ending if I finish it, largely because it'll end after a literal war and there are gonna be deaths.

What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Lol all of my fics I love happy endings way too much. If I had to decide out of all my fics I've finished I would have to say maybe one day i can forget the past and be one of those girls of honey and glass (MCU/Parkner) because Harley and Seraphina get to be so so happy!! Especially Seraphina in her transition progress <3

Do you get hate on fics? I used to get a bunch back when I posted on FFN and I have gotten one memorable piece of hate on AO3 when someone was very upset that I gave Sakura a different story path than they wanted in What It Takes, but otherwise nah. I do sometimes get people posting comments that cross my boundaries but I usually respond by explaining my boundaries and then deleting if need be.

Do you write smut? Kind of? I have a couple works in progress that didn't get very far and I do plan to complete both of them at some point. Not sure when though.

Do you write crossovers? Wjdueudhdhsidushd welllll kind of? I have this one crossover fic that I fully planned but never actually got very far in writing. It's called The Heroes' Aid and it's set in the Naruto world. The four main characters are from HxH, Bleach, Fire Emblem Three Houses and KHR. They're all isekai'd into the Naruto world by the sage of six paths, to help Minato and kushina during the second and third wars.

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of!

Have you ever had a fic translated? Not yet, but if anyone wants to translate my fics that would be so cool hehe

Have you ever co-written a fic before? I haven't, and I'm maybe open to trying it but it does sound kind of stressful.

What's your all-time favorite ship to write for? Parkner my absolute beloved!!! I quite like tododeku too but Parkner, especially my post NWH Parkner fic set at MIT, is just aaaaaaaaa

Oh and an absolute honorary mention to one of my rarepairs, HaruChrome (from KHR). I am responsible for 2 of the 11 fics for it on ao3!

What's A WIP that you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? Lol so many. What it Takes and Margin of Error are probably the main two though

What are your writing strengths? I can really get going with my writing speed and hit word per minute scores of about 30-50 on sprints, and thusly write over 5k words in a day on my good days! Once I have my idea I kind of just run with it and see what happens and pump out a lot of content.

What are your writing weaknesses? I tend to struggle with painting visuals with my writing; character outfits, scene descriptions and such. It's often something I have to remember to remind myself to do.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? Yeah! It's definitely something I want to be able to do, but I also don't want to botch languages. I may just specify that the speech is in another language without writing it in that language directly, but it'll really depend.

First fandom you wrote for? Naruto! I mostly got into fanfic reading naruto canon rewrites and SI-OC fics on FFN, and then I found the light and started reading more stuff on ao3 and branching out in fandoms. But my first fic was a... well, not SI, but an OC insert naruto fic. I'm quite attached to it even if I may have to abandon it

zoe wanamaker went so fucking hard when she decided to play hooch as the cuntiest dyke in the castle, and so i will always be committed to imagining hooch in exactly that vein - strutting around with her leather quidditch gloves, her masculine tailoring, and what is clearly an impeccable strap game.

and mcgonagall has stern-older-lesbian-with-a-secret-wild-side vibes as well - she's a little bit of a renegade, she doesn't suffer fools gladly, and she's a great fan of quidditch.

i think we can all picture the romantic midnight swoopings they're going on. and also the massive fights they're having when hooch awards slytherin penalties against gryffindor.

and arguing is foreplay...

andromeda tonks/bill weasley

i have decided, after careful deliberation, to back this.

something i really like thinking about when it comes to andromeda's post-war journey is how her grief over her daughter's death would be tinged by the fact that - as he tells us in deathly hallows - she didn't approve of her relationship with lupin.

i don't think this is entirely to do with his lycanthropy [i think, for example, that ted and andromeda were left alone during the first war as long as they kept their heads down, and that tonks joining the order - which andromeda can choose to blame lupin's influence for - forfeits this], but i think it's also fair to interpret lupin's statement that ted and andromeda are "disgusted" by their marriage as true, rather than an exaggeration formed of his own self-loathing. the casual prejudice against werewolves even by "good" characters is a really striking part of the series - and andromeda sharing it is something i find really interesting to explore when thinking about her relationship with tonks.

[as is the fact that she can't see the irony that this is exactly how bellatrix and narcissa think about ted.]

i think you can do something really interesting in the immediate post-battle haze with andromeda trying to come to terms with the fact that she never fully patched things up with tonks before she died, that she didn't have a chance to get past her prejudices and get to know lupin, and that she's only come to appreciate how brave her son-in-law was when he too was dead.

it's clear that lupin provides bill with some level of support in the immediate aftermath of his run-in with fenrir greyback, and that bill would both remember him fondly and be determined to defend him and werewolves generally from the treatment they would undoubtedly get from the state in the months after the war ends [after all, we are told that the vast, vast majority of werewolves support voldemort - they are bound to be first in line for the public's vengeance, and are an easy scapegoat for the government].

two people trying to uncover truths and falling in love while doing it is my poison, and i would love a fic in which andromeda initially seeks out bill in an effort to understand the things which have died with tonks and lupin which then turns into something more...

dudley dursley/justin finch-fletchley

one of the exceptionally minor mysteries of the series is just how posh a school smeltings is supposed to be. the dursleys are a satire of all that is thoroughly, averagely middle class in the uk, and yet smeltings - with its weird traditions, its odd uniform, and the fact that it's an all-boys full-boarding school - is a pastiche of the most elite public schools [which, in the uk, means fee-paying - what is meant by "public school" in the united states is a "state school" here].

above all, the smeltings uniform bears a very strong resemblance to that worn by boys at harrow... which is the great rival to eton.

just picture it. justin is forced to go watch his younger brother boxing for eton in a match against smeltings. he's bored out of his mind... until an enormous blonde heavyweight who's taken out the entirety of the team from charterhouse catches his eye...

bitter, beloved, rebellious (3.9k words, one-shot, complete)

“Only call me Mary when it’s important. Then I’ll listen to only you.” As the war escalates, Sirius faces a future vastly different from the one he didn't mind living in.

commentary: this is a favourite of mine because it's one of the fics that made me teary while writing it. 50% is because it's macblack/blackdonald. the other 50% is made up of everything else i felt while writing it, like existential fear, grief, loss, mourning, all those good things. like, i distinctly remember thinking about this story while waiting for a bus. imagine getting teary-eyed while waiting for a bus, jesus christ lol.

lento con gran espressione (before the end) (2.6k words, one-shot, complete)

"This was what peace felt like, this quiet moment with nothing but the rain, tea, and both of them wrapped in each other." 1979. James and Lily spend a quiet Halloween night at home.

commentary: this is a thematic sequel to the first ever fic i "officially" (because i have posted things way back, like 2004, dksfjldksfjdfls but i deleted them out of self-doubt) posted in a03/ffnet. i guess with this fic, i'm happy with my descriptions, how self-contained it is, and the cosiness of autumn that has that undercurrent of hopelessness because of jily's situation. (sorry wow lololol)

water of the womb (6.3k words, one-shot series, complete)

Coalescence: verb. come together to form one mass or whole. Divaricate: verb. stretch or spread apart; diverge widely This short series is an exploration of Andromeda Tonks and Narcissa Malfoy—the choices they have made and what led to these choices. In Coalescence, Narcissa's past and present combine, focusing on her ultimate choice in the Second Wizarding War. In Divaricate, Andromeda's choice has led her back to the past… but would she be able to reconcile with it?

commentary: sorry i cheated a bit with the series, but i can't really self-rec one without the other. happy with the cohesiveness of these two fics, how (i think) i managed to present the tenuous connection between andromeda and narcissa. i like how i ended it as well because it was realistic and right, i feel. i was also proud of how i wrote teddy lupin and the golden trio kids, i think.

sillage (2.1k words, one-shot, complete)

On the day before his exhibition opened, V finds MC staring up at his work with tears in her eyes. It was a reaction he never saw before. So he approached her to find out why.

commentary: i'm proud of this purely because i managed to wrangle the huge philosophical and metaphorical story that is kim jihyun's in mystic messenger. even now i still get confused by some of the metaphors in his storyline. but anyway this fic was during my (still ongoing) phase of "justice for jihyun kim". because why does everyone get forgiveness and love except him? and i'm still super salty about things like saeran's after end and finally getting a kiss cg but not during gameplay, but after the fact, like as the game's app intro cg like sldkjflsdj nah dude, i ain't taking that as a win.

carry on, carry on (1.6k words, one-shot, complete)

"So whatever happens. No matter what the future has in store for us. You carry on, Dromeda. You carry on." Andromeda learns of Ted's death.

commentary: i just read this right now and... holy fucking jesus christ why is it so sad??? ahahaha. and my end note is "i hope you enjoy". uh. wow, i'm so sorry to those who read this way back. i guess i'm sorry to those who might read this in the future also. again, i like how this is self-contained. i said in my end notes that i've developed a strong curiosity for off-camera moments. and that's still true. one of my prouder moments is the letter because in ffnet you couldn't strikethrough (i don't know if that's still true now); so with strikethrough being allowed in ao3, i could properly write the letter and bring to life ted's obvious mistakes (read: honesty) when writing his "last" letter to andromeda.
