LOSERS BRACKET OF WITCHES DUELS - Battle 14: Gavin vs Angmar
Disclaimer: This is not a popularity contest or which character you prefer, in this tournament, you decide who is stronger/better/smarter/etc. opponent.
information for both opponents under the cut to those who don't know what they can do in their battle:
Gavin Deamonne:
Gavin Deamonne specializes mainly in abomination magic and it is not known whether or not he knows or practices spells of another kind.
Gavin is overall a pretty skilled witch from Glandus High and his debut episode proves he's not afraid to seek adventures and is capable of fighting off beasts or capturing his opponents. He's not necessarily smart enough to see through illusions, especially when emotionally vulnerable (the boy so desperately needs his dad's attention that he falls for an illusion of himself with a mustache).
Gavin does in fact possess a palisman, but since he's against Angmar he would not have a chance to use it.
Angmar and Gavin attend Glandus so it's not unheard of for them to backstab their best friends without any hard feelings whatsoever.
Gavin may or may not have galder stones with him to enhance his magic.
Abomination Slip - Gavin can create abominations beneath the feet of his opponents making them lose their balance. It can be especially effective if his opponents are directly charging at him.
Abomination Gripe - Gavin is capable of making abomination goo capture his opponents no matter where they are and restrain them or even move them across different locations.
Abomination Minion - Gavin is capable of creating quite a large abomination golem that can be used to attack Gavin's opponents for him and serve his commands. The golem was smart enough to not be captured by the vines that assisted in the capture of Gus and also the very one to catch Gus first.
Abomination Bomb - not a canon one to Gavin, it was used by another witch, but I thought it was a nice ability so I gave it to Gavin for him to have more firepower. Gavin can send a bullet of abomination that can explode releasing large amounts of goo that can restrain his opponents.
Angmar:
Angmar specializes in plant magic mostly but could potentially utilise beast-keeping magic, considering he can also attract butterflies.
Angmar is not confirmed to possess a palisman so anyone fighting him will also not have it to even the score.
Angmar may or may not have galder stones with him to enhance his magic.
Angmar appears quite adventurous and skilled and can fight off beasts and restrain his opponents, which is also his go-to tactic. He's not however smart enough to see through illusions and can be easily distracted by butterflies.
Angmar and Gavin attend Glandus so it's not unheard of for them to backstab their best friends without any hard feelings whatsoever.
Butterfly Army - an improvised move I created, thus non-canon. Angmar can summon multiple butterflies and send them toward his opponents disorienting and distracting them.
Thorn Net-Shield - Angmar is capable of creating a net-like shield out of thorns that can be used for protection and to deflect any raging attack or opponent in the opposite direction. Makes for a good defense as it was able to send a Slitherbeast flying.
Thorn Restrain - Angmar is capable of creating giant and thick thorns and vines around his opponents to restrain them and prevent them from any movement or usage of magic. Unless the opponent doesn't need to draw circles to cast spells, the move is a finishing one, it requires Angmar to be able to freely cast it, meaning that if he's distracted he won't be able to pull it.
Thorn Attack - Angmar could also use his strong vines for offense purposes, granted this is fanon/assumed and not confirmed in canon.
More information for both of them is here as they share a character profile.

Hey if anyone has read/written any fics that feature the Glandus kids/the culture of the school at all please recommend them, the first part of my big tic takes place there and I'd love to get some inspiration for how other people characterise it as a place

tholomule family portrait 💛🤎 (full tholomule parent designs under the cut!)
the posthoot friday night inspired me to finish my mom and dad tholomule designs - their names are Atticus and Fiona 💛 Atticus is both boys’ bio dad, but Fiona is Matt’s biological mother and adopted Steve when she married Atticus. They both work in the Construction Coven which takes them away from home a lot, which is why Steve had to help raise Matt 💛 they attended Hexside, but worked in Latissa for many years before moving back to Bonesborough sometime during Season 1 (in order to put Matt into Hexside after Steve brought it to their attention he was being bullied at school). (I also worked on designs for Atticus’s siblings, one of whom is Boscha’s three-eyed-mom - I’ll post those hopefully soon but yeah the matt and boscha cousins HC is so personal and real to me)

Alright, headcannon time! This time it's about which school the Covenheads attended (Hexside, Glandus, St. Epiderm).
First up, obviously, Darius and Raine attended Hexside, with Raine transferring from St. Epiderm to there.
Now with that out of the way, I present the Covenheads I headcanon to have attended Glandus:
These ones scream of Glandus energy. I mean come on Glandus goes by the "rule of the strong" and these tracks do have powerful magic (as well as potions being versatile) so it tracks IMO.
I also headcanon that Eberwolf attended Glandus however, after he met Darius, he transferred to Hexside (like Raine did for Eda), although it was a bit later.
The covenheads I headcanon to have attended St. Epiderm are:
Like in real life, doctors are a very respected and valued profession, so I figure St. Epiderm, being a more prestigious school that values the track she would attend it.
As for Osran, since the oracle coven is in charge of telecommunications/broadcasting, I think he attended St. Epiderm as it's a valued and important profession in the Boiling Isles.
Then for Adrian, I'm just going to say that he reeks of St. Epiderm energy. Like St. Epiderm is noted to be a more expensive school (with the whole tuition fee thing mentioned in TTBK).
And honestly, he has the energy of a wealthy upbringing (so yeah that checks out).
But if we're talking about track reasons, I also like to HC that St. Epiderm values fine arts which includes the illusion and bard track. (Hence why Raine went to St. Epiderm at first).
Sidenote: I find it entertaining that most people in the fandom can almost collectively agree that Adrian went to St. Epiderm (great minds think alike)
In terms of my reasoning behind each Covenhead attending the schools, I have a headcanon that while Glandus is very competition-based (both literally and figuratively) St. Epiderm is more focused on the more professional tracks, and fine arts (which includes illusions and bard tracks).
This is not to say that Glandus and St. Epiderm do not have the other tracks. I just like to headcanon that they have a bit of a favoritism/ more focus on the professional and competitive tracks respectively.
Then, I also HC that Hexside is a more well-rounded school, with no particular bias towards a track.
So basically, if you want to go into a specific track/coven, you also have to consider which school to attend as it may influence your degree of success.

It's quite interesting to look at the similarities and differences between the uniforms of Hexside, Glandus, and St. Epiderm. The biggest similarity being the track-coloured leggings and sleeves (likely mandated by the Emperor's Coven), the boots, and belt. Glandus's uniform looks a fair bit like Hexside's, but is much shabbier and seems a bit less standardised, suggesting it may be a less prestigious school. They also have a track-coloured neckcloth instead of a cowl. St. Epiderm, on the other hand, uses a very different, fancy-looking uniform style that's actually most reminiscent of Emperor's Coven guards, suggesting it's a higher class school and quite likely prime recruiting grounds for the Emperor's Coven.

Not sure what to think about the fact that if Gus hadn't seen through Graye's Illusion in Labyrinth Runner's, leading to the Hexsquad getting coven brands
that would only change the fight in King's Tide.

The Glandus Kids - Capabilities (Character Profiles - Witches Duels Tournament)
Gavin Deamonne:
Gavin Deamonne specializes mainly in abomination magic and it is not known whether or not he knows or practices spells of another kind.
Gavin is overall a pretty skilled witch from Glandus High and his debut episode proves he's not afraid to seek adventures and is capable of fighting off beasts or capturing his opponents. He's not necessarily smart enough to see through illusions, especially when emotionally vulnerable (the boy so desperately needs his dad's attention that he falls for an illusion of himself with a mustache).
Gavin does in fact possess a palisman as confirmed in Eda's Requiem, and is proven to be a skilled and fast flyer by winning Gland Prix. Now, it's hard to tell whether or not he and Luz were going head to head (granted she had a very huge headstart before King puked at her making Luz crash) however he still managed to win the race by his own skill even if Luz could potentially out fast him. It goes without saying that Gavin still has skills in being an aerial ace that can rival most of the competitors here. It's not however known whether or not can he use staff in combat.
Gavin may or may not have galdorstones with him to enhance his magic.
Trivia: Yes, I constantly keep writing Deamonne's surname attached to him, mostly for advertising considering how Glandus kids had only one episode for themselves and I bet most people don't even remember them. However back in the day, when we were still at only season 2A and didn't know anything about Darius's backstory, people theorized he was Gavin's dad due to Gvain feeling he needed to prove himself in abomination prowess to his dad and Darius being "villainous" abomination covenhead hard to please. It also helps how they're both dark-skinned human-like witches and how Darius's official debut was also Gavin's second appearance. Nowadays this theory is forgotten, but I thought it was pretty funny and can be used for interesting fanfic ideas so I'm bringing it up here cause why not.
Angmar:
Angmar specializes in plant magic mostly but could potentially utilise beast-keeping magic, considering he can also attract butterflies.
Angmar is not confirmed to possess a palisman so anyone fighting him will also not possess it to even the score.
Angmar may or may not have galdorstones with him to enhance his magic.
Angmar appears quite adventurous and skilled and is capable of fighting off beasts and restraining his opponents, which is also his go-to tactic. He's not however smart enough to see through illusions and can be easily distracted by butterflies.

Unless the opponent doesn't need to draw circles to cast spells, the move is a finishing one, it requires Angmar to be able to freely cast it, meaning that if he's distracted he won't be able to pull it.
Thorn Attack - Angmar could potentially use his strong vines for offense purposes as well, granted this is fanon/assumed and not confirmed in canon.
Bria:
Bria specializes in construction magic without any signs of being interested in other tracks, especially considering she considers them "inferior".
Bria is an absolutely skilled witch who prefers brute strength and talent over anything. She isn't however easy to fool or intimidate. She's daring and adventurous along with being ambitious. She can also be two-faced and deceitful by appearing nice and fair only to drop the facade the moment she has high ground or no interest in playing nice. She may however struggle from PTSD caused by Gus, so while she's not easy to intimidate, she could potentially end up being triggered by events considered "supernatural" or near Gus, or if she feels like losing her powers.
Bria is not known to possess any palisman so anyone facing her would also not be allowed to wield a palisman to even the score.
Bria's tool in this tournament, independent of whether or not other competitors also possess it is her sword. She can utilise it in combat or to cut through things standing in her way like bushes.
Bria may or may not have galdorstones with her to enhance her magic.
Rock Spike - Bria is capable of creating a rock spike that can be used for offensive purposes. It is also proven to be quite destructive as seen in TTLGR.
Rock Pillar - Bria is capable of creating rock pillars of various lengths and sizes. She's also capable of creating pillars within the pillars she created. Said ability could be used if Bria needs a high ground, for defensive purposes to block attacks, potential transport, or even offensive purposes.
Earth Capture - Bria is capable of encasing her opponents on Earth as she demonstrated in TTLGR when she restrained a Slitherbeast. The move could be considered a finishing blow unless Bria's opponent has enough brute force (and by that, I mean a lot, stronger than Slitherbeast) to burst through her trap. She would usually utilise said ability if she assumes her opponent can't fight back, however.
Ok, I think that's all, if there's anything more to be added, let me know in the notes. Return to the Masterpost.

Just a personal TOH AU. Kind of a swap AU? But different, in a way. The specifics are down below.
(Original Role - Character who replaces the role)
Luz - A different human(An OC, perhaps)
Eda - Robyn (OC, we'd give him a curse)
Raine Whispers - Vitimir
Darius Deammone - Hettie Cutburn
Eberwolf - Mason
Lilith - Wilder (One of Robyn's brothers, a small personality change)
Clawthrone parents - Giselle and Alto (Robyn's parents)
Terra Snapdragon - Darius Deammone
Adrian Graye - Raine Whispers
The BATTS/CATTS - Eda, Lilith, and Morton
Boscha, Cat, and Amelia - Bria, Gavin, and Angmar (They hold themselves higher than the weaker studenta)
Hexside is switched out for Glandus High, along with the students, teachers, and principal.
King, the Collector, Steve, Hunter, and Belos are the same.
The HexSquad would be made up of Glandus students who were known to be "weaker"
Hooty won't have the Owl motif, more of a dragon than an Owl? Or a Griffin? Maybe, still working on it.
The story would also obviously change slightly based on the characters, especially with the location, Coven Heads, and school changes. A few iconic scenes would've been altered as well, like the Raeda scene in the forest. I doubt that Vitimir can learn Bard magic in a day /j
The name is still being thought up. The Griffin House? The Dragon House? Depends on what kind of curse I give Robyn, which is another can of worms.
I love figuring out small details. It's so fun! /pos
