the recent manga announcement made me realize that the pun for captain's armor evolution in the au was right there. rip to ToyPteranomon*, there's now a Pantsuman Pantsumon.

*because i still really like the original design, i imagine any other toyagumon can evolve to ToyPteranomon. but toyagumon!cap can exclusively evolve to Pantsumon. as a treat.

design notes under cut:

cap as an armor evolution is pretty much a reference to several tetocu episodes. the most notable one is the melviathan episode, where he's literally in armor. you can tell the basis most in the visor and the segmentation of the armor. also the lightbulbs, though they're in a different part of the armor, mostly to make the side visor area look different from Postmon.

the stretchy arms were not only an homage to several existing digimon with similar proportions, but also to sweatnami's business krupp timeline, in which cap gets strechy powers after being dunked in plastic. weirdly fitting considering what his pre-evolution is.

accounting for the existing motifs associated with the digimental of kindness shifted the reds to a colder/pinkish tone. also fitting since i worked that into the more... skintone parts of the armor. yes the entirety of him is the "armor", surrounding the original form (now melting inside. he's ok!)

the gauntlets are based on the hypnoring. i was originally going to do something more with the white area of the gauntlet but decided against it (something something it looks like toilets now?)

the pauldrons were slightly based on wargreymon's pauldrons (mostly the blue accoutrement that i made into a tube in the final design). i also decided to make it look like underpants, lol.

the blues were there for contrast but also to reference to the hypnoring scene in the movie because i like the color pallette from that scene and i will put that sucker in wherever i can (lighthearted)

originally, i was going to write all the digimoji in the latin alphabet variant but in the end i used the kana version instead. this is because of the digimoji on the knuckles: tra-la-la wouldn't fit and i didn't want to literally translate it to "tora-ra-ra". in the end i went with how the original japanese translation localized it as that'd fit the knuckles (with a bit of finagling into making it into five fingered hands).

as a result the "3D HYPNO" digimoji also was transcribed in the kana variant for consistency.

i think it's so fucking cool when characters have heterochromia. idk if this is a common sentiment anymore but back in like 2019 it was sort of associated with preteens making their "mary sue god of everything wolf hybrid" ocs but first of all if you think that's a problem in the first place You Are A Tar Pit and second of all two eye colors is just undeniably sick as fuck. a win for indecisive people everywhere. and for color symbolism people also. it's just a win all around tbh
