POST FINALE HEADCANONS (ongoing list)
Camila and Luz both held Veeâs hands the first time she went through the portal door and returned to the Demon Realm
Vee is every one of the Hexsquadâs wingman. Sheâs give Hunter, Luz, Amity, and Willow dating advice.
Steve, Lilith, and Hunter joined forces to debelosify/decoven the Isles. They went around tearing down Belos statues and defacing Emperorâs Coven insignia.
Gus and Amity have gotten better at Spanish.
Lilith and Hunter are still rivals in a playful way. They occasionally recall their Head Witch and Golden Guard personas when trying to one up each other.
King found a way to reawaken Jean Luc.
Emira had her own episode with Eda and earned her Bad Girl Coven shirt.
Odalia and Alador got divorced. And Odalia got kicked out of the house.
Tinella Nosa now lives in the Clawthorne tower. She pays rent.
Anne and Luz have kept touch.
Luz and Amity made Good Witch Azura popular and itâs a best seller on the Boiling Isles now.
Per Veeâs request, Masha was the first other human to be told about and granted passage to the Demon Realm.
Vee cried when Luz introduced her to Stringbean.
Jacob went to jail.
Camila has created her own Dominican spin on Apple Blood.
Vee and King became friends the same way Lilith and Hooty did.
Luz found out about Amityâs Grom note.
Principal Bump loved his Hexside memorial.
Gus and Matt kept their promise to the Keeper and helped restored the Illusionist Graveyard.
Luz kept her promise to the Bat Queen.
Eda finally returned the favor (and the whistle) to the Bat Queen.
King and the Collector have repurposed Kingâs Island into their âtreehouse.â
Vee took Masha to Grom. And Vee became Grom Queen.
Luz, Hunter, and Camila accompanied Vee in her search for the other Basilisks.
Vee had a âKatara find finds the man who killed her motherâ moment with Warden Wrath.
Everyone finds out Evelyn was a Clawthorne (obviously) and Hunter gets accepted into the Clawthorne family.
Hunter goes to Hexside.
Alador and Edric have a cheesy âIâm proud of you, sonâ moment. Probably over something silly like pranking Odalia.

So if the bat queen has children the possibility of other palismen having children is there, just imagine it though.
Luz: *Hears some meowing sounds* I swear thereâs another cat here but where?
Amity: I think Ghost and Stringbean are just messing with you today Luz.
Luz: No I swear *Hears little hissing sounds and looks inside Stringbeanâs nest and sees little snake shifters but with white coats.*
Amity: Luz are you ok?
Luz: Amity they had little ones too *tearing up* little babies *takes a photo and sends it in the group chat* IâM A GRANDMA!
Amity: *Lauging at this*
Iâm actually surprised that I havenât seen someone do that, at least not that Iâve seen in the tags. Thoâ I think the Bat Queen is a different kind of Palisman or at least so old that sheâs evolved beyond being a witch giantâs familiar.

Hihi
Here we are with another fanart for my friend and their rp!
Previous pip&hunter art
The plot more or less is: a young philip wittebane falls thru some space-time pool and ends up in the canon of the series (a couple of years earlier the events of TOH), and is picked up by Belos, ending becoming a sort of special guard in his own right (is kind of more complex than that tho from what I understood). Him and hunter do not really get a long at first, but eventually grow closer and the canon events of series change accordingly. The bits they shared with me are really nice, and they are still looking for rp partners if any of you is interested into that, just pm @randomaccount95
This scene was smth along the lines of them running away from the bat Queen after trying to get palismans for Belos
So- ehm- yeah I sort of gave up on the background I am sorry I didnât not know how to draw trees-
I was really happy with the pose tho, as I really had no clue how to draw this and i 100% had to improvise ahahah
The proportions are a lil odd, as for how much sick Victorian child pip may be he does look a bit too scrawny here- BUT ANYWAY, I still think is very cute! Let me know what you think pls
Have a lovely day đŚ

âŚâŚ..so ainât nobody gonna say anything?
Really? Youâre serious? NO one is going to say it. IM going to have to be the ONLY one to say it? The one to look like the biggest foolâŚ.
*sigh*
OkAYâŚâŚ
LilithâŚGaveâŚAmityâŚ.Ghost.
FIGHT me. You all can fight me on this.
We clearly do not see Ghost ANYWHERE in Bat queens care in any scene weâve seen thus far. Unless Iâm missing it.
(If I am I do apologize)
What if Amity (like Luz) had her palisman for a while but could never use it because she had no idea who she wanted to be.
It wasnât until after Luz she knew who she wanted to be.
Herself.
The emperorâs coven are the only ones with palisman wood/ actual palisman. Who better to get a palisman than the former (at the time current) head for the emperors coven.
My headcanon is Lilith snuck Ghost or Palisman wood from the emperorâs coven with Amity in mind.
Amity having no idea the risk she took for her.
Although not being close or caring about one another back then, Lilith still wanted her apprentice to have a palisman of her own, because of the relationship she has with her palisman and the memory of carving herâs with her father.
Lilith wanted Amity to have that same experience.

Why does Jacob have a witch's training wand? Who did the Bat Queen belong to? Where did the Owl Beast come from? What happened to Caleb and Evelyn? WHAT IS HOOTY?

Dadrius Week 2023 Day 6: Palisman
Hunter grabbed his boots, but didnât pull them on, instead padding softly down the stairs. His socks muffled his footsteps, so the only sound in the house was the click of the lock.
âAre you really going without eating breakfast?â
Hunter jumped, dropping his boots and nearly slipping backwards on the tile. Darius sat in a recliner, fully clothed, sipping from a mug. The man blended right into his cushions, all purples. âYouâre up?!â
Dariusâ hand snaked out, turning on the lights. âYes.â He set his mug on an end table. âIâm surprised you werenât up earlier. Youâre only leaving a whole HOUR early today? My goodness, what a sleep-in.â
Hunter flushed. Heâd actually woken early enough to arrive an hour before Dell even showed up. Sometimes he liked to practice carving in the quiet, or just sit with the Bat Queenâs rescue palisman. But Darius liked the idea of âgetting a proper eight hours of sleepâ and tended to insist Hunter sleep at least that long. He supposed he could always go to bed earlier than midnight. âWere you waiting for me?â he demanded.
âYes. And a good thing. Breakfast. You have plenty of time.â
Hunter trudged to the kitchen, painfully aware of Darius in the other room, sipping his coffee. This was his third week with Dell, and Darius hadnât gotten up to see him off any other timeâit had to have something to do with the fiasco yesterday. Darius hadnât tried to talk about it last nightâheâd said good night pleasantly enough, and that was it. Heâd probably just wanted a second of space, or maybe heâd been taking time to smooth things over with his family. Yes. That made sense. But nowâŚ
Hunter scarfed down a couple slices of toast, then headed back to the door. âOkay. I ate. Goodbye.â
âIâm coming with you.â
Four words. Somehow, each one felt like a punch to the gut. Oh, yeah. This was definitely about what had happened yesterday. Did Darius think Hunter was fragile? Did he think he couldnât walk there on his own anymore?
âOh,â he fumbled, âWell, I usually walk, because magic can upset the palisman if it shows up too suddenly, soâso we wouldnât be able to use your abomination warp.â
âI donât mind a walk.â
Great. âOh. Okay.â
Hunter tugged his boots on. Darius followed him out the door, and they walked in slow, awkward silence for at least a block. Very few people walked in the streets this early, and most of them trudged along blearily, either coming back from a late night, or up against their will. Even though the street was wide enough for all of them, other citizens still parted respectfully for Darius, giving Hunter appraising looks.
âSo,â Darius said finally.
So. The word, unaccompanied by any others, sent a shiver of panic down Hunterâs spine. He wonât kick you out. Still, the dozens of other possible bad things that could happen flitted through his mind. âSo.â
âAbout yesterdayâŚâ
Hunter pressed his arms against his stomach. âIt was nothing. I mean, Iâm sorry.â Eberâs words echoed in his headâthat Darius thought heâd been the one to blame, not Hunter. âI meanâitâs fine.â
âHowâs your hand?â
Hunter flexed his bandaged hand. Heâd put more gel on it this morning, and the scabs hadnât cracked yet. He just hoped heâd be able to hold his carving tools properly. âFine.â
âGood. Thatâs good.â More awkward silence. They were still hopelessly far from the palistrom forest, and the workshop, and Hunter desperately wished he could teleport there and get out of this conversation.
âWhat happened?â
Hunter edged further away from Darius. The whole thing had been a stupid mistake, and he knew it. After a good nightâs sleep, it all seemed so ridiculous. A ridiculous reaction and an unnecessary silence between them. âNothing. I meanâI dropped the glass. It broke. I panicked. Itâs justââ he opened and closed his mouth a couple of times, searching for the right words. âThe usual.â
âAh. The usual.â Darius cleared his throat. âHunter. My parents⌠are not the type of people to get angry at you for breaking a glass.â
Right. No. Of course not. âOkay.â
âAnd if they were,â Darius continued, âI would never have taken you near them.â He stopped walking, and Hunter stopped too, as if he were attached to Darius by a short leash. âDo you understand? I wouldnâtâIf someone was dangerous like that, I wouldnât put you in peril. That sort of situationââ
âI get it. Darius, itâs okay. I get it. I understand.â Hunter started walking again, the tips of his ears burning. Darius meant well enough, he knew, and part of him was glad that the sentiment had been expressed in no uncertain terms, leaving zero room for doubt. But the other part simmered with embarrassment that Darius had to say it so explicitly. He should just know it. He should just trust that Darius wouldnât willfully put him in dangerous situations, or near people likeâŚ
Darius followed, now a few steps behind, rather than at Hunterâs side. âI canât help but feel like that wasnât the only issue.â
Hunter walked faster, one step away from jogging. âWeâre going to be late.â
âLittle Prince, did the panic attack get worse after I came in with abomination?â
Hunter gulped at the question, keeping his eyes fixed firmly on the ground. âDellâs going to wonderââ
Darius stopped. Hunter didnât have to look to know, he just felt, in the back of his mind, that Darius was standing still in the empty street again. âHunter, I know this is a hard conversation to have, but we need to have it. Abomination magic is something I use often. Itâs a part of me. I know it hasnât caused you trouble in the past, or at least if it has, you didnât show it. I need to know what I did differently yesterday so that it doesnât happen again.â
Hunter shrugged helplessly. How was he supposed to say âin that instant, you were Belos, even though I know youâre notâ? âIt wasnâtâyou didnâtâI donât know, I was already panickingâand it justâŚâ
âMade an already bad situation worse?â
âYeah.â Hunter crossed his arms, his shoulders hunching. âCan we just⌠go?â
âOkay.â Darius started walking again. âThank you, Hunter.â
Hunter blinked, looking up at him. âFor what?â
âFor talking to me.â
âOh. Youâre welcome?â
They reached the outskirts of town, buildings turning to trees and cobbled road to dirt path. Darius glanced around. âSo. Is there a house here, orâŚ?â
âItâs all outdoors.â Hunter moved more confidently here, the trees drawing him onwards. He skipped ahead, turning to face Darius and walking backwards. âWe have niches for the unawakened palisman so that they donât get wet in the rain, of course.â
âOf course,â Darius echoed, âAhâunawakened palisman? Isnât that all of them?â
âNope!â Hunter felt a grin starting to creep onto his face. This wasnât the first time heâd given the explanation to a newcomer, but heâd never expected that newcomer to be Darius. âThere are three different options for a palisman adoption here, each of them with their own benefits.â The words poured out easily, much more easily than discussing the Deamonne House Fiasco.
âFirst, and most commonly expected, of course, is that you order your own palisman. If you know what animal you want, and what your wish will be, I can carve you what it is you likeâthe palisman will be exactly what you always knew you wanted. Uhâor at least thatâs the theory. Technically, that avenue isnât open yet because Iâm still learning to carve, and I canât make that kind of promise just yet. The second avenue is that if youâre not sure what animal you want, you can look through a selection Iâve already carvedâmost of those are easy shapes right now and I practiced on regular wood a few times before carving. Or theyâre palisman that Dell started before his injuries, and I finished carving, polishing, and painting. The palisman will be completely yours, but youâre a bit low on choice, there.â
âAnd the third option?â
Hunterâs hand went to his chest almost without thinking. âAdoption. There are⌠a lot of palisman who ran away from bad homes, or⌠bad things happened to their witches. Some of them are⌠theyâre still hurting. But others are ready to try again. If your goals line up with a palismanâs desires, theyâll choose you. Those are the awakened palisman. Sometimes they have more complicated needs than a new palisman, but they also have a lot of experience and knowledge to offer.â
âAh.â
Hunter hummed. They were closeâhe could hear the awakened palisman rustling in the trees, watching him from a distance as they usually did until he reached the safety of the workshop. âMaybe I could find you a palisman.â
Darius locked up for just a second at that, but quickly shook his head. âAh. No thank you. Iâm not sure that having a palisman is for me.â
âYou didnât used to think having some kid around was for you, either.â The words popped out of Hunterâs mouth before he could really think them through, and he immediately glanced up at Darius to see his reaction.
The abomination coven head snorted, ruffling his hair. âWell, youâre not just some kid. Youâre my kid.â His eyes immediately widened, and he coughed. âThat is to sayâwhy donât you show me some of what youâre working on?â
Hunterâs heart thumped in his chest. He didnât even try to push Dariusâ hand away like he usually would, just mutely nodded and picked up one of his half-finished practice pieces, carved from regular red wood instead of the blue palistrom.
âThis is, um.â
His kid.
Focus.
Concentrate.
Do not blow this. Be cool.
âItâs going to be a bee,â Hunter explained, âSee, thereâs the stingerâIâm still trying to figure out how to carve the wings in, or if I should attach them separately, or maybe just carve them flat against the body instead of poking out. Iâm just worried that if I do that, they wouldnât be able to fly, or else the part of the body they were folded against will be off-color.â
âThat sounds⌠not like the easiest design, then.â
Hunter shrugged. âDell said I should start with familiar shapesâthe cat was probably the easiest. The curves on the snake made it a bit hard to do, and I still havenât successfully made a chameleon.â He brushed his thumb against the rough, unpolished wood, his heart aching in his chest. There was a shape he knew every curve of. Sometimes if he wasnât thinking about it while carving, his knife shaped a beak, or a stray wing. He was almost certain that if he tried, he could create the most perfect songbird in the world.
But he wasnât ready to try.
Hunter set the unfinished statue down, shaking away his melancholy. âOh, I know a palisman you might like!â
Darius shook his head. âI told you, Iâm not in the market for a palisman right now.â
âI know, I know.â Hunter raced up the stairs, taking them two at a time. He wondered if Darius had missed the fact that Dell wasnât here yet. Probably not, he reflected gloomily. But he could distract from that. âBut youâve seen what Iâm working onâlet me find a finished palisman, to show you the goal!â
He stood on the top platform, waving to the palisman that lurked in the trees. âAva! Câmere, girl, I want you to meet someone!â
In a whoosh of green and blue, an elegant peacock dove down from the tree, landing on his arm with a squawk. She pecked gently at his ear, and preened herself, smoothing her feathers.
âYou look lovely,â he told her, rubbing the space just between her eyes. âSorry, heâs not looking for a palisman right now. Heâs just a friend of mine that I wanted to introduce you to. Maybe youâll change his mind about getting a palisman, huh?â He smoothed her feathers. âHeâs the one I told you about, the one Iâm living with right now? You want to help me test the waters on how he feels about adoption? Do you, Ava?â
She cooed in response.
âThanks. I knew I could count on you.â
Hunter descended the staircase more carefully with the palisman. She was bigger than most of the othersâher tail gave her probably twice the surface area of his other charges, and she was a little more unwieldy to carry if she fanned it out. Which she did now, looking down the stairs expectantly.
Hunter hopped down the last stairs. âDarius, this isââ
âAva?!â Darius finished, his voice rising to a squeak.
Avaâs eyes locked on Darius and she screamed in rage, her tail feathers folding, then fanning out again, this time in an angry display of aggression. She clawed her way up to Hunterâs shoulder, digging in and snaking her neck around his to peer around his other shoulder, still shrieking at Darius.
âOwâAva, whatâs the matter withâDariiiiuuuuussssssâŚâ the realization hit him like a human transport worm. âSheâs your palisman?!â
Ava gave his ear a nip, then shrieked again, glaring at Darius.
âIâm sorry!â Darius pleaded, âAva, if Iâd knownâbut youâre alive! Thatâsââ
Hunter reached up to quiet the palisman, starting to pat her head, but she bit his fingers, hissed at Darius, then fled back up the stairs, disappearing into the forest in a blur of beautiful feathers flitting through the trees.
âOw.â Hunter shook his smarting hand. âIâm so sorry, Ava usually doesnât act like that! But then⌠you⌠already⌠knew thatâŚâ Hunter shook his head. Most of the palisman here had lost an owner. But Darius was still alive, which must mean that Ava had either been thrown away or had run from him. Why? âDarius? What is your palisman doing here?â
In a whoosh of wings, the Bat Queen landed on the forest floor. âCarver.â
âBat Queen! UmâAva just ran off, Iâm sorry, Iâll go after her.â
Bat Queen shifted, eying Darius. âAh, Ava.â She clicked her tongue. âIn her past life, her witch tried to feed her to a monster. She escaped unharmed, but brokenhearted.â
Darius flinched. âIâll⌠help you find her.â
Bat Queen inclined her head. âYes. Go together.â She glanced around at the trees. âSomething bad has come to Bat Queenâs forest. Palisman can feel it in the trees.â
That sounded⌠troubling. Hunter hadnât felt anything walking in, but he trusted the palisman more than his own sensesâespecially since heâd been so desperate to change the topic of conversation on the way here. âWeâll be careful.â
Bat Queen tapped Dariusâ chest with one big claw. âKeep the carver safe. Find Ava.â
âWeâll bring her home,â Hunter promised.
Darius seemed all too happy to get out of the Bat Queenâs presence, practically bolting into the forest. Hunter followed more slowly, crossing his arms.
âYou never told me you had a palisman.â
âYou heard the Bat Queen,â Darius replied tensely, âAvaâs partner tried to feed her to a monster.â He dragged one hand over his face. âI thought she was dead this whole time,â he said softly, âI thought Belos must have destroyed her, just like all the other palisman.â
âWhy?â Hunterâs hand went to his chest. Heâd given palisman to Belos, he knew he didnât really have the space to judge. But not his palisman. Never his palisman, not of his own free will. âHow could youâŚ?â
Xxx
Darius scanned the trees for any sign of Avaâs brilliant plumage. She hated him. And he couldnât blame her. He didnât think he could look Hunter in the eye, so he just kept looking up, rechecking trees he knew she wasnât in.
âFor the coven,â he said tersely, âYou know Belos collected new recruitsâ palisman. You were lucky to get yours after your initiation.â
âButâyou could have hidden her, right? They wouldnât have knownâyou couldâyou couldââ
Dariusâ legs wobbled, and he sat down on a fallen log with a whump. Seeing Ava, seeing her anger, it was like that day all over again, watching her disappear into a dark room, not even struggling to get back to him, just watching him with hurt, abandoned eyes. âI suppose I wasnât as brave as you, Little Prince.â He buried his face in his hands. âI chose my ambition over my friend. I let her die.â
The log creaked as Hunter sat down next to him. âAre you okay?â
Darius laughed, a short, barking sound. âNot really. Although I appreciate the concern.â He sighed. âI wish I could say that Iâve regretted it ever since. And I did, for a while after I gave her up. But if I hadnât, I never would have become coven head, and I never would have found out what was going on with the day of unity.â He looked up at Hunter, desperate to⌠he didnât even know what. Be understood? Receive some sort of absolution? âI never would have met you. I hate that I had to do that to her, but I did have to, didnât I?â
Hunter twisted the ends of his apron strings between his fingers. âI donât know,â he said softly, âI guess there was always a choice, but I canât tell you if things would have been better if youâd chosen differently.â
Not exactly forgiveness, but then, he hadnât done anything to earn that, had he? âI suppose.â
âDo you want her back?â
âWhat?â
âDo you want her back?â Hunter repeated, âYou hurt her, but she was still your palisman first. Itâs not too late to repair things between you and she.â
Darius snorted, pushing down the spark of hope in his chest. âDo you really think that? After what I did to her? I threw her under the transport worm, I gave her up to be eaten by a monster. Her words. After everything, do you really think sheâd want to be my palisman again? Do I deserve a palisman again?â
Hunter went silent for a moment, and Darius saw his hand drift up to his chest, a movement Darius knew meant he was thinking about his own lost palisman.
âI guess thatâs something you should ask her,â he said finally, âApologize. Ask if she can forgive you. But first, we have to find her.â
Angry squawking tore through the trees. Hunter winced.
âAnd I think I know which direction to start with.â
Panic swept over Darius in a dizzying waveâthe Bat Queen had said something dangerous might be in these woods. What if it had gotten to Ava first? He surged to his feet, tearing towards the sound. He summoned abomination after abomination, sliding into a clearing on a wave of his own, already transformed.
Ava lay on the ground, bound by pinkish magical ropes. Odalia Blight stood above her, the circle over her finger matching the ropes in color. âDarius?!â
âOdalia,â he snarled, âLet her go!â
Odalia waved a hand, and a spirit floated out of her necklace, picking Ava up and dragging her back towards its master. âOh, no, dear. Iâm going to get a leg up on the demand for palisman. Itâs going to be a successfully booming business now that the Empire is gone, and Iâll need a few starters if Iâm going to purchase the wood necessary to create custom creatures.â
âTheyâre not aâa product!â Hunter cried, skidding into the clearing next to Darius, âTheyâre living creatures, and you canâtâcanât deny people the chance to have one because they canât pay you!â
Odalia tilted her head. âOh, hello, dear. Youâre a palisman carver now, arenât you?â She tittered, putting one hand to her chest. âPerhaps I should take you along with me as well and avoid the trouble of trying to train someone new!â
Darius put one arm out in front of Hunter. âTry it,â he growled.
âOh, relax, I was joking.â Odalia patted Ava on the head. âTheyâre just animals. This one doesnât even have an owner! So really, whoâs getting hurt, here?â
âYou are,â Hunter answered simply, and disappeared in a flash of gold. He reappeared behind Odalia, snatching Ava away.
Darius sent his abominations forward, intercepting Odaliaâs ghosts before they could attack Hunter. âThis is a new low, Odalia. Even for you.â
Hunter flash-stepped next to Darius, tugging at the ropes. âI canâtââ
Darius shrank his usual scythe to a small knife, wiggling it under her bonds. Ava squawked, struggling, and Darius dismissed the knife before he cut the palisman on accident. âShshsh, Iâm trying to help you!â
Hunter disappeared, this time attacking one of Odaliaâs ghosts while it tried to rip through Dariusâ abomination. He yanked it backwards, kicking it away. âShould we just go?â
âOne second.â Darius turned back to Ava. âYou have no reason to trust me. I know. But pleaseâlet me help you. I promise I wonât hurt youânot again.â
Hunter teleported in front of Odalia, snatching her necklace away. âHaha! Try controlling your ghosts now!â
Ava looked at Hunter, then at Darius, and bowed her head, closing her eyes and going still.
âThank you,â he murmured. He gingerly slid the knife back under the ropes. âOne, two, three.â Darius pulled the abomination knife towards himself, cutting through the magic cleanly.
In Hunterâs hand, the pendant shook and released a spirit the size of a griffin, the smaller spirits flying into it and molding into one whole that roared in Hunterâs face, pushing his hair backwards. Hunter dropped the stone, teleporting backwards to avoid a swipe. âDarius, hurry!â
âOne, two, three.â Darius cut the set binding Avaâs legsâonly her beak left now. Hunter teleported circles around the spirit, confusing and enraging it. The spirit destroyed Dariusâ abominations with a single swipe, keeping itself between Odalia and Darius, but still wheeling around to face the threat that was Hunter, its claws always a beat too slow to hit him.
âLast one, Ava.â Darius slipped the knife under the muzzle. âOne, twoââ
âDarius! Look out!â
Hunter slammed into Darius with all the force of a charging ratworm, jarring his arm and jostling the knife, which cut both the ropes and left a thin cut in Avaâs face. The world around them burned gold, and Odaliaâs spirit roared, half caught in the warp, its claws barely missing Darius. The stone on the ground cracked, and it disappeared. Hunter clung to Dariusâ side, breathing heavily.
Odalia stumbled back with a short shriek, glaring at Darius before disappearing into the trees without another word.
Darius hissed out through his teeth. âWell, that was a closeâŚâ
Hunter slumped against him with a groan.
ââŚcallâŚâ
Darius caught Hunter before he could fall, lowering him gently to the ground. The spirit had missed him, but its claws had found a mark in Hunterâs side, ripping so deeply that Darius saw bone. The edges of his shirt around the gash were already dark with blood, and Darius didnât know if it was because of pain, shock, or blood loss, but his eyes were closed.
No.
No, no, no, no.
Darius tore open Hunterâs belt pouch. âPleaseâyou always haveâyou have to haveââ he tossed aside a crumpled piece of paper, dumping the contents of the pouch onto the ground to find the bandages Hunter always seemed to have on him. He found them, two rolls of cloth bandages that his shaking hands missed the binding on twice before finally unrolling them. He pushed the bandages into the gashes, packing them tightly into the wounds.
Hunter twitched, weakly whining and batting at Dariusâ arms, but Darius pushed his hands away, stuffing more cloth inside of the lacerations. He tore off his own cloak, wrapping it tightly around Hunterâs torso to keep the packing in place.
âYouâre going to be fine,â he promised shakily, shoving Hunterâs belongings back into the pouch. âDo you hear me?â
Back to the workshop? No, the Bat Queen wouldnât be able to help him. But Bonesborough was too far, even with his warp. Theyâd come deep in the forest, and he didnât know the local clinic well enough to safely bring two people there, especially if Hunter reacted badly to abomination magic right now.
His eyes slid to Ava, who eyed him, green blood dripping from the gash made by his knife. âPlease,â he begged, âI know I hurt you when I promised I wouldnât. I know I betrayed you in the past. You donât have to forgive me. But help me save him.â He half-offered Hunterâs broken body to her. âI canât do it without you.â
Ava strode towards him, and instead of a squawk, he heard her voice, a voice he hadnât heard in decades. âFor my friend.â She shifted into her staff form.
âThank you,â Darius whispered. He swept Hunter up, snatching the staff out of the air, âLetâs fly.â
