#I don't usually post politics stuff online - even in the tags!#BUT I am currently in a state of massive relief after seeing the exit polls for our General Election in the UK today#This happy pic seemed an appropriate one to post in light of it looking as though the Tories will be out by morning!#I mean... I won't fully believe & celebrate until the *actual* results are in but the exit poll is usually pretty bang on... so YAY!#Prediction is that we will have a landslide victory for Labour - even if it's a bit wrong it looks like Labour *should* win easily#I don't massively like the current Labour party but I loathe the Conservatives & what they've done over the past 14yrs#Where I live the Tories are still actually likely to win (ick!) unless the Green Party pull off something amazing#but I don't even care about our local result much - I just want Labour to win overall & it looks like they will#Oh! Finally watching the episode. Not sure how much I'll liveblog because I'm also cleaning my house since my (absolutely wonderful and I'm so grateful he was able to do this for me) 17 year old nephew was housesitting for me all week while I was gone.
#personal#honestly it's not that bad#i just walked in here last night and could smell that we have pets#so i went into one of those panic modes where i was like#does my house smell like this ALL the time#but we keep stuff pretty clean around their litter boxes#so i'm hoping the answer is not as bad as it was last night at least#honestly it's also just a combo of this carpet being 10 years old#and the dogs that lived here before we moved in#like i can still smell pets in this carpet#which is why i wanted to rip it out before we moved any furniture in last year#but oh well#i think i finally have my partner convinced that it needs to happen though#also my period managed to not start while we were traveling yesterday#but i feel like i'm dying today as a result so that's contributing to my mood i'm sure

when I was in high school there was a tendency whenever there was an attractive boy to simply fan over him. in a way that talked over everything he might say for himself and created a narrative that completely ignored, the fact in some cases, that he was really struggling—or if he was struggling, to pin all the blame on the girl he’s dating and completely ignore the thousands of other factors (no it can’t be mental illness or unaccommodated disability or systemic abuse or exploitation and if he is in an abusive relationship we won’t ever consider the factors that put him at risk for that)
and I’m not saying this fandom is like that. I get the need for privacy around some things and how in public conversations sometimes it’s a lot more respectful to stick to the positives (everyone who does that, I admire you) or even the struggles that are talked about publicly, show respect by not reading too far into them. there’s a time and place for that. but sometimes I feel like our only options are shitty and ableist gossip or totally ignoring the systemic and structural issues we know exist in something like the music industry until someone dies and then we’re looking for someone to blame. friends, there is a point where the respectful thing is to listen to what someone says and come together to make things better. and you can learn how to have that conversation respectfully. please do
#forever haunted by ‘I wasn’t always a cynic it’s just I’ve been bought and sold’#and actually this highlights my whole frustration with the conversation around mental health just about anywhere#like you tell people something sucks and they’re completely unwilling to even try to challenge the status quo in order to help#and idk. I tell myself they’re going to be fine. they’re so resilient. I’m doing all I can; I’m not on the ground there I’m at a distance#but at the same time is it not bittersweet sometimes to enjoy music born from trauma? to be at a live show knowing they shouldn’t be?#to me these stories have to be told for the reason that yes so people relate but also so we can do better for the next generation#anyway I’ve gotten deep into inxs lore lately and I can say. yes it is better for 5sos simply for the fact men can talk about emotions#but that didn’t come without a MASSIVE fight don’t you ever forget that. it’s gonna still carry shame. they’re choosing to fight that#but the sad songs we got as a result?? idk they’re the thing that turned me parasocial because there’s rarely absolutely nothing you can do#like if we’re ever gonna give them a gold star for talking about this stuff as early as sgfg til today we gotta ask ourselves to look at#larger systemic issues and stuff that we ARE a part of and while we can’t be there for them when they have a bad day. we can work on#anyway the high school example still haunts me. still drives some of what I do now. we were just kids. but most of us here aren’t anymore#and the newbrokenscene is grown up now and tbh the status quo should be TERRIFIED#so idk. at the very least sign the petition for liams law. advocate for better. address local issues of injustice and addiction etc#which in some ways I’m lucky that I get to do that in sydney so it feels connected but this is just as valuable anywhere#tbh the 2010s era of bubblegum pop and ignoring all our problems is over. you’re punk now. even katy released chained to the rhythm#thinking about the nfp I’m trying to start and how to start small. for disadvantaged kids maybe? intervening via urban design?#(don’t you ever forget 5sos WERE disadvantaged kids not even 20 years ago. that shit sticks to you no matter how much you achieve)#albums and activism#anyway it fascinates me to see how differently people do this kind of thing to each band member. like the vibe is different but still track#for this whole phenomenon like whether they’re seen as pretty or strong or cute or smth else that becomes the main thing not their words#and I say that but tumblr is pretty good overall. I just wish sometimes we could have a more active conversation before any tragedy#so gosh I’m ranting so much but PLEASE talk about this with me. I notice far too much and I can’t say any of it publicly#so occasionally I come out with a rant like this

i think i get why old heads hate todays state of music. to a degree. it’s relatively soulless.
#i dont actually think its the topics so much#(bc ms. turner paved the way for hot girl music)#i think it’s partially conviction#and partially the actual process by which we make music now#i think using live instruments will give better results#especially for certain kinds of music#obvi wouldnt be the same for techno or edm#i think we have so many ppl doing the same things and doing them nearly the exact same way#everything sounds so empty#what happened to background singers and harmonies and stuff#and then there’s auto tune and this obsession with perfection#i can appreciate something that’s rough around the edges a lot more bc it gives character#today’s music might be losing character tbh#you can tell when people aren’t making music for fun or as art#but rather out of obligation or monetary gain#it’s really sad bc you can hear the lack of soul#6

So the thing with seeing your favourite band live is that you will never ever feel normal about any of the songs that you heard them play then. Caught up on the tmbptmbg marathon today and it felt like being punched in the gut repeatedly (slash positive... but also aargghfhgg painnnn. You know)
#and they can fit so many songs in one concert because they're so short so you know. the effect is very far-reaching#btw one insteresting result of this is that man it's so loud in here was the 2nd song played during the marathon i think#and you would not believe how much of a tearjerker this one could become#i always liked this song a whole lot but i totally wasn't expecting to enjoy it THIS much live#something magical and one of a kind about that moment one of the best moments of the whole show. for real#it's like man. it really is so loud in here. and it's beautiful. we're all here together in this moment.....#and then later in the marathon they played when will you die and can't keep johnny down one right after the other#like wow are you trying to kill me actually. and again neither was even that much of a super huge fav before this#i'm sure all of this is just a common concert goer experience#but i'm sort of amazed to also be able to live this myself you know......#the rare beauties of life.....#this has been today's update on the current state of things which is that i'm fully back in tmbg madness hell as of recently#to no surprise. that's the only notable thing btw no need to talk about anything besides that#goosepost

lol so much for getting sat down by a doctor and gently told the bad news. Just got a a phone call that was basically “hey, you’ve got a little tumor in your brain. Another doctor is gonna call you eventually. Bye.” Cool cool cool. Can’t have bad bedside manner if there’s no bedside, I suppose.

#oc: evander#datv#tay plays datv#datv spoilers#deia's brother btw !!!! very much giving anders vibes if anders was kind of deadbeat oldest son who frequents the club#him having sold out the inquisition on solas's instruction and then falling for one of the scouts who was hurt the most by it#very much a mirror to solavellan except theyre literally just people and ultimately victims of their leader's organizations overarching war#and harding being sympathetic to solas enough to reach evanders conscience even during Peak radicalization#but holding solas accountable enough to potentially sway evanders mind#and then evander learning the truth about solas but also specifically what that means for harding the person hes grown to love#having to reconcile that his own rebel-fantasy is not more important than the very real pain his loved ones have gone thru as a result#and like figuring out what going forward looks like. is he STILL sympathetic but its tempered? or does he go full anti-solas in an act of#redemption which would also probably involve him telling harding to embrace her anger and not her loving side?? which is kind of the invers#of his own arc.#GOD.#AND THEN ITS LIKE. DO I KILL OFF HARDING AT THE END????
