Imagine Hero and Villain in a fantasy setting.

A witch has put a spell on the Hero so that they feel cold all the time. At first it's not as bad, it's like an annoying perpetual feeling of goosebumps, but by the end of the first day it has the Hero a bit on edge. And it only gets worse.

As time goes on, the Hero feels colder. They can put on so many warm clothes, try to warm themselves up with a stove next to them, but the sensation of cold won't leave their body. Their family and friends come to visit them and they're concerned when they come into their uncomfortably warm room, and they see them still shivering.

The Hero reaches a point where they cannot stop trembling. Their muscles are constantly tense and they cannot get much sleep, they become weak and sick. It's like a fever that isn't even really there. They are tired and stressed, they have responsibilities and people to protect, but their condition is only gradually degrading.

Speaking of people to protect, in comes the Villain, ready to confront the Hero. Hero was dreading the moment Villain would show up again, given their condition and the fact they hadn't found a remedy for the curse yet. But as the Villain approaches them, their limbs start warming up a little for the first time. And the areas of their body where they feel this warmth are the ones in the Villain's proximity.

And then the Hero has a wry realization.

The witch has cursed them so that their only source of warmth is Villain.

Once Upon A Time 3x05 "Good Form" my beloved, I know the text and shots and scene transitions directly parallel Hook saving David's life to Killian's loss of his brother, and Killian's pained expressions of seeing David succumb more and more to the same poison Liam did. Killian's insistence David tell his family, give them the chance to say goodbye that Killian didnt have with his brother. Of Killian himself sayinf David reminded him of Liam, his canonical hero. I know the ep's dialogue speaks of Killian's want to be seen as a man of honor, to be that man of honor.

And I know Killian would absolutely have been a deflective ass with the "I didn't do it for you" to David about saving his life, bantering teasingly that he did it for Emma like David has accused all of his actions to get to and be at Neverland as - just a selfish attempt to have Emma.

And I know Killian's half-joking flirtation with Emma later with "Is that all your father's life is worth to you?" is in character bc for his entire presence on the show previously he has used compliments of himself and flirtatious remarks as deflection, jokes, and to be actively antagonistic/inflammatory/annoying/playful.

I know all of this. I know this is all perfectly in character and the nonspoken motives informed by the flashbacks to his past and his performance are deeply in character. But christ alive I wish that a tiny little line would've been added in somewhere that made it clear that his motivations in this ep and the Neverland arc as a whole weren't just about Emma bc it feels like the writers partially forgot this in 3a, despite the strength of this episode and all its parallels. They say characters' feelings out loud or allude to them more directly in dialogue all the time like pleeeeeeease, you could've made it a lil more obvious it's not solely bc of Emma like. i just wish it wasn't easily misread if u didn't read into it deeper with Killian's characterization, beyond his contradicting words

Being a silly enjoyer of my oc x canon, and also just always someone who expresses love of a media that way, I've never REALLY been one to ship canon characters with other canon characters all too often. I never hate them! It's more of just I see em and I nod like "Oh okay!" Maybe give it a like cause the art and the way they present the dynamic is fun but I've never been crazy (/pos) over canon character ships.

All this to say!!!! I kinda wanna hear about yalls! I guess mostly WH related cause, ya kno, that's the silly shit I post. What are yalls ships for WH? What dynamics do you see with them? What about it do you like so much? I'm curious!!!!

If you ever find yourself thinking "well, I don't do this thing that this person insists people of my group do" or "this person who said a broad statement DIDN'T include my niche!" remember to think:

is this actually about me or am I trying to force myself into a conversation that reasonably isn't about me

does the person engaging with this conversation even know that I exist. is it really that important to derail the conversation to remind them that I do.

if you're not doing the thing, great! you do not need to engage with the conversation and can move on

if you are doing the thing, self reflect and improve as a person before swiftly moving on
