The funniest (& saddest) thing about mr co creator arcane (Christian Linke) (a male that benefits from the patriarchy and its privileges) is that he said the asexual thing all on his own, here is what’s wrong with that, with a deep analysis relating to sociology / the patriarchy:

1: Misunderstanding the asexual definition, thinking it’s some literal „STOP” sign that says *thinking jayce and viktor can be romantic or physical with eachother is illegal* lmao.

2: He said this ALONE. out of his own volition, pretending like he spoke for the WHOLE TEAM OF ANIMATORS, EXECS, WRITERS, ETC….That’s disgusting and to me, sounds like you’re pulling an authority card. which feels severely toxic. you did not make that show ALONE.

3: You can not make a show in which you so obviously gave people many context clues of romantic interest or physical contact / attraction, intentionally, and be like „throwing up card asexual because i think asexual means jayvik dead”. „tHeYrE bRoThErs”. Sir do u interact with your siblings like this? I sure DON’T.

4: Elaboraring on point three, it’s giving SEVERE, homophobia. like SEVERE. You really are trying to throw up some ultimate magic spell to make people think they’re famillial and not queerplatonic or outright romantic…? Like that just signs to me that you dislike seeing gay men (and those rooting for them) win.

5: Elaborating on point 4, i think that usually stems from internalised or societal toxic masculinity. People stereotype gay people as being emotional „softies” and thus „less macho” or less of a (in stereotypical definitions) „man”. But, that patriarchal definition is toxic in and out of its own? so you project „ew they’re not gay but brothers” because ew they’re more emotional than straight men that way!!!! in ur eyes.

6: Building more on that, it comes off as though you are favoring lesbian relationships. Why?Because they are in the eye of the patriarchy, taken more as girls being silly, more broadly accepted because women are less privileged. & some men even fetishise gay women.

In short Christian Linke, is just someone who benefits from the patriarchy as a privileged male. Especially in comparison to queer men, disabled people and ace people. He does not seem to understand the viewpoint, of the communities he is discriminating, misunderstanding and stereotyping.

Do you seriously not see why people would explore their dynamic—whether as queerplatonic or romantic? They’re tragic foils: outcasts from their societies, both devoted to progress through politics and science, both touched by the arcane. One starts as a pacifist and ends up creating the deadliest weapon imaginable. The other is raised by a warlord to embrace violence but ultimately works to shut the war down.

Mel Medarda’s fatal flaw is her inconsideration of the council’s oppression of Zaun, even as she claims she’s trying to ‘give back to the world’ through hextech. Viktor’s fatal flaw is that through his use of hextech, meant to ‘improve lives’— he himself founds a eugenicist cult in Zaun and kills countless people who desperately needed help.

They both become the closest things to gods. She is natural born magic and he is man made. They can understand each other in ways nobody else can.

It’s fascinating and tragic. That’s the point. It’s complex fanfiction. That’s the point.

Ignoring Viktor or Mel’s complexities to sanitize them when they are both flawed feels cheap and hollow. In any ship they’re in.

Saying Melvik shippers are making them kiss each other ‘like Barbie dolls’ is ironic when writers that develop the canon, yes the canon, business relationship between Viktor and Mel tend to write more politically interesting fics than a lot of other people. (Along with Meljayvik shippers or Jayvik shippers that really consider the dynamic all three of them have and how rich it can be).

Once again. Melvik/Meljayvik writers? Love you guys. Thanks for the fics.

🌹Selfship Database Introduction!! 🌹

Hello, everyone! Inspired by other blogs such as selfshippersfromthissource and there being blogs with this kind of gimmick in the past, I wanted to try my hand at this—making a carrd that functions as a database sorted by source/fandom. While it can function as a way to find selfshippers in the same source or just wanting to see if someone ships from a certain source, I’d also like to see which sources are the most common within selfshippers!

Please reply/reblog/send an ask if you would like to be included! I will not include anyone who does not give me this kind of confirmation.  And below read more will be some ground rules going forth for this blog :-) of course, things can change as this database evolves, but these are the guidelines I am currently following!

1- While I understand this can and will impact results, I ask that those will label themselves as proshippers dni for my own personal comfort. i have no desire to entertain or be neutral toward incest, rape, pedophilia, whatever on my own blog. i have no desire to entertain people shipping with minors while they’re adults, rapists, fascists, pedohpiles, etc. While I try to stay in the know, I cannot simply know everything, so I will always assume 100% good faith unless I have proof otherwise. I can remove people from the database. However, outside of these reasons, unless you personally request to be taken off, I won’t ever remove anyone.

2- I will also refrain from including the following sources on my blog/database— countryhumans, hetalia, attack on titan, your boyfriend/boyfriend to death, the coffin of andy and leyley, degrees of lewdity, harry potter. Other than whatever is listed and anything that may apply to the first one, everything else is on the table. Whatever’s listed can be changed, but I would rather not blacklist a lot.

3- As there are some things that I won’t include and there’s some boundaries in place, I understand fully this won’t be a fully unbiased/100% accurate database. While I would like to see the data and to combine my interest in this kind of subject with selfshipping, this is purely for fun and a side project for me. Please do not use my blog as some kind of factual source (I mean, it’s a tumblr blog, so no matter… it’s not one lol) and please keep things lighthearted.

4- A source/fandom will be listed whenever there's two selfshippers for that source. Exceptions may apply if certain sources/fandoms are requested. Though, I won’t accept every request if there’s not enough selfshippers for a source.

5- For simplicity and not overworking myself, for this database, I will only include romantic and queerplatonic f/os. Queerplatonic f/os will be noted as such with (QP) by the character's name. If you want to he included, all I ask is there to be a public f/o list somewhere accessible on your blog. You don’t have to send it to me as long as it’s linked somewhere easy to find on your blog.

6- For the time being, some media will be lumped together, examples being Marvel, DC, Disney, Slashers, Tim Burton, etc. Some may be given their own section if there’s a notable amount of selfshippers for a certain media in that category and/or by request potentially.

7- For any updates to people’s f/o lists, I will try to schedule times where I personally look through them again and make any changes to keep the database current. It’s not required at all, but any heads ups would be appreciated! 

8- Anonymous is turned off for asks for my own comfort. If you send an ask that you don’t want answered or would like to have your url cropped out of, please include it SOMEWHERE in your ask, either at the end or beginning will work. Also, currently, messages are turned off. They may be turned on in the future if need be. Unfortunately, I cannot see shadowbanned blogs. Please be aware!

9- Please note that I am one person. I am also a selfshipper, a non-sharing one at that, but I am hoping to be able to push through if that ever comes up in order to make this database. There may be days where I’m not active on this blog or answering asks. Please be patient with me!! If I ever decide to step away from this project, I will make a clear post that states that exactly.

10- Now, as I am dealing with a large part of the community, I understand the risks that could occur with something like this. If something bad was to ever occur from this database (drama in general, me dealing with any strong negativity), depending on the severity, I will shut down this project. Especially if others are harassed for something. I do not tolerate harassment at all.

I may add more or remove some aspects in the future. For now, the carrd will be public with the sources in alphabetic order. Then, the urls and characters said selfshipper ships with will be in each section. Suggestions are welcomed for things I could add or change! Though, I may be picky with what suggestions I take to stay on task for this database.

Ya know what’s funny? Is like at a certain point in this au after Stan and McGucket have been working on rebuilding the portal for years now with Bill, they just kinda… get weirdly used to him.

Like it’s not a friendship at all, but they’re all aware their using each other (well Stan and McGucket are using Bill to help with the portal to get Ford back while vice versa Bill is using these two to open up another possible rift her can use, McGucket and Stan bicker and shit but they drink and smoke together so there’s that)

So it’s kinda interesting how the power dynamic forces Bill to actually work with these two while trying to get them to do what he wants, cause he knows they know he doesn’t really just care about getting Ford back, and McGucket knows how the portal could influence things

So it’s like, kinda funny that way; they just sorta talk to him like just another coworker or something and it pisses the triangle off so much but he literally can’t do jackshit to either of them cause then they stop working on the portal and like it or not he kinda sorta needs these two morons

So it gets like… weirdly casual, and McGucket just sorta ends up talking more and more with Bill (trying to pry secrets outta him and answers in general) while Bill talks to him cause welp, Stan can talk circles around him and his more laidback attitude gets on the triangles nerves

So those two end up kinda finding some common ground while Stan and McGucket become sorta pals/sorta criminal partners since fuck it, what’s there to lose anymore? Stan’s been on the run for ages and McGucket’s fresh out of a divorce and doesn’t got much else to go back to

So like eventually over the decades, it’s just this really fucking sitcom dynamic and when Ford comes back it’s going to be fucking hilarious cause by that point Bill and McGucket are lowkey dating (romantically), McGucket and Stan are also sorta dating (more queerplatonic than anything else), and Stan now knows how to do astrophysics

The thing about aromanticism is that it makes love into any other childhood dream. Just like Santa, the older you get, the less real it seems. Mablung x Nienor (he just did so much for her and never gave up on searching for her until he then had to live with the knowledge that she was dead and he failed her … she lost all her memories of him and married her brother … the idea that they fell in love in Doriath before all this makes for a practically perfect tragic love story. Best part is he knew and loved her for her real self, whereas Turambar and Brandir both fell in love with an amnesiac shell of herself.)

Finrod x Bëor (yes, Finrod loved Amarië too …BUT look at how Bëor gave up everything to spend the rest of his life with Finrod, and how Finrod lost Bëor to mortality but then laid down his life for Bëor’s descendant; the angst is just too juicy to ignore)

Maglor x Daeron (two nasty but guilt-ridden minstrels who deserve each other, perfect)

I do not ship Merry and Pippin at all; not only are they full blooded first cousins, but since Merry is an only child and Pippin only has sisters, they very clearly fill that “brother” role in each other’s lives.

After a lot of thought, I’ve decided that queerplatonic Legolas & Gimli makes the most sense to me. They also fill the “brother” role in each other’s lives since they both have no blood siblings. I understand why many people do ship them romantically/sexually, but the thought of anything sexual between them just doesn’t feel right to me, personally. Even the thought of kisses just doesn’t seem to fit them, IMO; they’re about mutual respect and sharing quality time, rather than anything physical. To me they exemplify “heterosexual life partners” perfectly. It is important in this shipping-obsessed culture to never undermine platonic friendship.

I’m gonna drop the Yakuza Fiance anime now and just patiently wait for the manga.

The pacing for episode 4 was all over the place, the dark auras looked awkward, and they removed lots of details about Shouma and Yoshino’s relationship back in episode 3. I’m a Kirshima x Yoshino truther, but even I don’t like the way the anime is trying to undersell Shouma just to promote Kirishima. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Apart from Yoshino being a great protagonist, one other reason I loved the manga was because they portrayed the queerplatonic love between Yoshino and Shouma in a way that didn’t make it any less than Kirishima’s romantic feelings. For me, the Love Triangle between them is not so much a romantic push-and-pull between two hot guys but more so a comparison between Different Types of Love. The author has done great care in showing how both types of Love are equally important, but now the anime has thrown all of that under the bus. They’re being so serious about the Love Triangle being a Triangle that they’re even making it a key theme in the ED...

Like, what the hell is this???

Showing Yoshino trying to pick between Kirishima and Shouma is so out-of-character for her because, first of all, she doesn’t give a damn about Kirishima. Even in the recent chapters of manga, with Kirishima laying his vulnerabilities before her, Yoshino is still trying to draw a line between him by using money.

Second, she has repeatedly mentioned that she loves Shouma as family. Family is forever, and taking him out of her life is out of the question. Even Kirishima has learned to acknowledge this (e.g. entrusting Yoshino to Shouma when she’s in danger).

Never once in the manga has Yoshino been shown to be torn between the two of them. It’s just those two idiots “competing” with each other, but they’re not even on the same page about it 😭. While Kirishima is intent on being Yoshino’s boyfriend, Shouma just wants to be able to stay by her side and protect her. Their feelings for Yoshino are very different, and that’s fine. Just more love for Yoshino.

And if you didn’t know, the manga is currently on hiatus because the mangaka is upset that the production studio went ahead and made an anime without getting their permission. The publishers, who held the rights to the manga, were the ones who agreed to it, not the author. The author only found out there was going to be an anime because some fans informed them. So, all the more reason for me to drop the anime.

anyway, as i’ve discussed on this blog before, i’m very arospec and it’s inseparably intwined with my identity itself; i also project that onto catra. something we often bring up in that community, is romance-favorability (as its own spectrum of range all the way to blatant repulsion btw) — which is a personal preference that’s defined as exactly as it sounds like and occasionally revolves around fictional depiction as separate from one's own reality — and arguably more importantly, amatonormativity — which is an arbitrary set of rules for romantic expectations set up by an alloromantic society. this is typically thought of as common denial of the idea that someone could actually want to separate themself from needing a life partner in marriage, but can very much be applied to an annoying list of what draws the line between romantic & platonic relationships. that line is very individualistic and is to be decided on such a level only, and it doesn’t even get into what queerplatonic means, a concept saved for another day!

my point is, the OP seems to be trying to claim that catradora objectively cannot be read as romantic because their dynamic growing up & early-on in the story doesn’t perfectly meet socially-constructed standards of what that should look like. i say we need to eradicate those standards altogether! it’s up to catradora to decide what they are, if anything specific at all, not us as the audience — assuming they could’ve had the words at their disposal to knowingly describe it. going back to my earlier paragraph above about how limited they were in the fright zone, i’ll borrow a quote from a comment i made on one of my recent reblogged posts (which is a great meta on how their mutual desire was uh... definitely not platonic):

it's really bothering me that i can't recall where i read this from before, but someone analyzed before how, growing up, catra & adora didn't have a good sense of how to label their relationship with accurate terminology despite being subconsciously aware that they, whether they knew the other reciprocated or not, loved each other "like that." unfortunately, they couldn't further explore it because such love & affection was seen as a punishable weakness in the horde, so they resorted to the only safe option they seemed to have, which was subtle body language and play-fighting as [testudoaubrei-blog] described above.

partly joking but not really. the way big finish wrote this story has one episode call the doctor aro (by john dorney, mentioned above), and have him solve the problem of the episode with his lack of romantic attraction, and two episodes later (by tim foley, who i also have beef with) basically has nine and river call their relationship romantic.

i know being aromantic is a spectrum and something complicated and different to each individual, and i would love it if the show (or surrounding media) made an effort to explore this with the doctor, but i. don't think it's done super well here. like. on one hand it could be saying nine didn't love rose*, which i dislike and also goes against what we see in the show, or it could be saying he needed to just Meet The Right Person, which i also dislike for very obvious reasons. and either way you slice it, it confirms the doctor has feelings in the future for river (which i agree with) but it basically says the only reason the doctor doesn’t have those feelings Now is because he’s aro (with the implication of “aro For Now”). not because he. yknow. just met her. or he just got out of the time war and he hates himself. dorney just kind of bungles it, which is very disappointing because nineriver could be such an interesting dynamic, romantic or not.

i guess i just do fundamentally disagree that the doctor’s sexuality really changes all that much body to body so it really ends up feeling like “he just hasn’t Met The Right Person Yet”.

*if you personally don't think this love is romantic then that's totally fine! if you prefer to read them as queerplatonic partners or what have you then you absolutely should. personally i do think it's romantic love -- specifically allegorical queer romantic love, given how it's written in the show -- and i don't think it's a moral wrong to read it that way.

tl;dr i dislike this writer and how he handled nine and river's relationship and i think how he handled nine's romantic attraction (or lack thereof) specifically in Swipe Right really kind of sucks. that story alone contradicts the doctor being aromantic by saying that they feel romantic attraction in the future, and then the third episode in the set by foley also contradicts the doctor being aro in the present. i know stuff with sexuality can change over time, but that doesn't really feel like what was being done here. it feels more like the stereotypical thing a lot of media does that basically says aromanticism has to be fixed or is a temporary thing.

i also think telling people they can't say two characters were in gay love because of a pseudocanon side story most people have not listened to and costs a lot of money is a weird way to interact with people you don't know on the internet. i like romantic readings of doctorrose and doctorriver, sue me.

I’m going to be honest, sometimes being on the DBDA fandom is hard for me as an aroace

Now, most of my experience in fan spaces has been with American Girl, and since the doll characters are all preteens, we really don’t have shipping and things. So I really wasn’t ready for what I stepped into getting into DBDA stuff on Tumblr

Thing is, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, ships Edwin and Charles. And now, not finding anyone agreeing with my ace Edwin headcanon was annoying, but that’s fine. But the entire fandom agreeing that of course the two of them must be in love? That’s hard for me

I mean, Charles has literally said that he doesn’t think he likes Edwin romantically, but he’s still the most important person in the world to him. And I love that. I thought that they were a perfect example of a QPR, and that’s really rare. I’ve only ever seen I think two other QPRs represented in fiction, and those were both in books (If It Makes You Happy and Not Even Bones). So for me, it was really important to see characters in a show that’s so wonderful in so many other ways represent this kind of relationship.

So it’s really, really hard for me sometimes, to see everyone else saying that of course they must be in a romantic relationship. For me, it can be really invalidating. Lots of aspec people struggle with feeling like they’re missing out because of allo- and amatanormative society making us feel lesser for not feeling the kinds of things that our society prizes above all else. And then, when you think you finally have found a piece of media that represents the kind of relationships that you can have, it’s wonderful and really validating.

And then you realize that everyone else in the world thinks that of course it must be a romantic bond. Of course Charles is in love with Edwin and doesn’t realize it.

But maybe he isn’t. The fact that Charles always looks for Edwin in a room, smiles whenever he sees him, says he’s follow him to the ends of the earth? That’s not explicitly romantic. And I’m not trying to tell anyone that they can’t ship who they want to. I’m just saying that it can be hard to see a beautiful relationship of a queerplatonic couple be only ever interpreted as romantic

Timeskip queerplatonic huntlow who don’t kiss each other on the mouths is literally canon and that’s why they didn’t kiss, everyone else just can’t see that and is in active denial

But seriously, i mean compare them to the way that Luz and Amity act, where their relationship is very clearly meant to be a ‘typical’ relationship (I use the quotes very heavily to mean a romantic relationship where those involved start as wrecks around each other, then go on to date and kiss and stuff).

With Hunter and Willow, before the timeskip neither of them ever fall apart around each other like Lumity did, yknow?? Sure Hunter gets flustered but he’s Hunter I think that’s just what he does. Their ‘confession’ is literally ‘I care about you alot’ and not ‘I love you’ and they don’t kiss they gently press their hands together and hold each other’s fingers gently!! The fact that even in timeskip they just. Are physically close to each other and that’s all. No kissing, they’re just comfy with each other. And that FEELS so different to me from the way the other romances in the show are presented (where even Eda and Raine have those moments where they’re flustered and fall apart around each other a bit). I WILL take that and say it’s queerplatonic but maybe I am too aroace and delusional and insane to form rational opinions

Anyway QPR huntlow for the win. If you ship huntlow romantically I will laugh at your pain for not getting your confession and kiss scene (I joke, I like the way it’s so open ended. It doesn’t matter so much what the relationship is except that they’re safe and happy in it, and I personally like to see them as a QPR, to me it feels more cozy and heartfelt)

you want someeee jimmy/impulse/tango? you want? i provide! also a "keep reading" because i wrote a lot xD

so, as i said in the post, jimmy/impulse/tango is very canon in this AU. it’s my baby. originally it was going to be the typical like, just ranchers ending but—and you know this, because you were there when i spun it—but I thought it’d be really sweet and interesting if Impulse eventually found his way back to Tango way after the events of the story and the other two had managed a proper, final escape. I don’t.. think that this is a specifically romantic dynamic, since Tango and Impulse have something very queerplatonic goin’ on when they’re living in the castle together, before Jimmy comes into the picture. And I think that kinda stays when the poly relationship between the three of them starts to bloom eventually. So, how would I label it, you ask? It’s certainly something, I’ll tell ya what! 

Ummmm.. so the reunion is always something that makes me feel a lot. I mentioned some brief explanations of the ideal scene in that post, but there’s just something about it being Jimmy that answers the door, and then Tango showing up right after. And Impulse is like, so different now. He’s not in his armor, he’s still strong but a little bit softer at the edges. It’s easier to get an expression out of him. He looks tired, a little scared; awkward in his initial meeting with Jimmy, who is all smiles and stumbling over himself trying to ask his own questions and explain. But then, Tango arrives and stops a few feet away, silent and in shock and not sure what he’s seeing—only for him to drop everything and burst into a bunch of noise and visible excitement. Impulse bracing for impact with a smile as Tango quite literally launches himself at his best friend, taking him down to the ground and just bombarding him with questions—You’re here! How? Why? Are you even real right now?! And Impulse is just laughing, full of joy; his hands holding Tango and keeping him steady, a familiar presence. Golden Rings!Tango obviously doesn’t cry, because it would hurt, but boy are his eyes still welling up to the point of almost being concerning. I think Impulse even wipes the tears away once he stops moving, just before they fall. And then, once the excitement dies for a moment, Impulse just.. grabs Tango’s face and pulls him in for a soft, slow kiss to the forehead. And then!! Jimmy just watching with a whole lot of fondness in his face!! Curious and eager to know more and talk to someone he wished he would’ve had the chance to properly interact with, but quietly letting them have their time together once more!! I’m going to DIE-

It’s.. augh. It makes me feel a lot. That’s one scene that really lives in my head rent free because there was something always SO painful about Tango leaving Impulse behind. I just- they are the ‘DO NOT SEPARATE’ meme to me. So, self-indulgent as it is, I wanted them to be together again in the end. 

Some fun things about post-epilogue Impulse are mostly how his previous lifestyle and habits as a Knight/Guard bleed through into domestic life. Not only is this man still very much in that mindset (following Tango around like a little dog, usually itching for something to do, always very aware of their surroundings) but he is also extremely touch starved and when you live in a house with two guys who are all over each other and occasionally all over you, that can be.. an interesting experience. 

Just, also think about Impulse learning to let himself want things. And need things. Letting himself touch and be affectionate with Tango even if he’s scared because he’s been trained out of it. Using his name and not his title is like, the most fun thing in the world to him. Impulse learning to try and relax. Tango and Jimmy also like, using the touch as a way to sometimes pin Impulse down and get him to just SIT for longer than a little bit of time. He’s comfy!! He good for cuddles!! 

Also, jimmy being like “you should stay with us for a while :)” because duh and Impulse’s first response being like. “Yeah i’ll do so many chores. I’ll earn my keep dw” and Jimmy’s like ??? dude-

AND SPEAKING OF JIMMY- listen. their dynamic fascinates me to no end. One of the ways I think Jimmy and Impulse start hanging out is because Jimmy is like, always attempting to try little bits and bobs of handiwork around their little house and Impulse just appears out of nowhere to help. Jimmy’s focused hard on something he’s struggling with and Impulse just quietly drops a helpful tool next to him and Jimmy might scream a little. Jimmy is always interested in learning so when Impulse starts helping and teaching him, Jimmy’s like wow. okay. yeah. I’m seeing the appeal here. oh god AND he’s hot and strong and smart?? like.  Jimmy being shy about any physical touch with Impulse because he doesn't want to overstep but it slooowly turns into like, little supportive touches on his back or gentle scritches on the back of his head when they're all sitting together in the evenings--with his permission, of course. I think once the two of them are

I also just had this hilarious image come to my head. Tango and Jimmy are talking about Impulse while he’s gone one time, just kinda re-evaluating their whole situation or whatever and Tango says something about the two of them getting along and Jimmy just, getting really pink and looking away for a second. And Tango just blinks before being like waAAIT A MINUTE. 

Jimmy just so flustered, shouting like NOTHING! DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT-
