This might've been said before, but I just gotta say:

I love the vibe Tmnt 2012 is giving off.

Especially when it comes to the lair and Donnies inventions/gadgets. Everything looks makeshift, but it has its own beautiful charme. Since they cannot show their faces to the city of New York, they have to grab old thrown-out devices and use trash and old spare material to make furniture and gadgets and it's just so realistic, while looking amazing all the same. Like, what do you expect from them, in such a situation?

The lair is easily one of my favorite fictional headquarters ever. Like yes, it's an abandoned subway station, but it still looks homey in my opinion. Not gonna lie, I would instantly feel at home if I visited. The family tried to make it cozy to the best of their abilities and I think they truly succeeded.

Whatever that kitchen table was in its former life, it now serves its purpose as a table and it looks amazing as it does so.

And the bedrooms?? I love them so much?? So makeshift, so beautiful. And don't get me started on Donnies lab, because I am obsessed with the way it looks. Like yeah, maybe the lair is lacking some color, but what do you expect from a family with limited abilities in interior design? It's truly realistic looking in the coolest way and I cannot stop talking about it.

Although I probably should.

Also Donnies inventions. The Shellraiser has to be my favorite fictional vehicle ever.

The cool graffiti on the outer shell?? Its ability to drive on train tracks and the street?? THE DAMN TRASH CANNON?? THE MANHOLE COVER CANNON???? They literally grabbed trash, compressed it and used it as a weapon. Donnie came up with this. Donnie drew blueprints for this thing and then built it. This man can build functioning vehicles and devices from trash.

The most impressive thing? He taught all of this himself. All of his knowledge probably comes from books and experience and later on certainly also from the internet. He's too powerful and he deserves credit for this.

Sorry, I just wanted to ramble about the 2012 gadgets and lair for a bit. I love the makeshift-ness of it all. I love how you can truly see, that the furniture is old and used. It gives the show the true Tmnt charme. It's the type of lair you'd expect some mutant turtles and their rat father to live in.

I'm not the best at explaining things, so I hope you get the point, lmao.

you know something I want to see in a new version of TMNT? At some point I want to see a Splinter that actually DOES SOMETHING.

Don’t get me wrong here, I adore the versions of Splinter we’ve gotten. 2012 especially has a lot of effect on the story, Rise Splinter was a very unique take, 2003 Splinter has a great personality, and I love Mayhem Splinter’s protectiveness. But you know what I’ve noticed? Every first outing/first time we see the turtles leave the sewers, Splinter never goes with them. Sometimes that’s because they’ve been going out on their own for a while (Rise, Mayhem) but even then we never really hear about Splinter ever accompanying them. This bothers me especially in 2012 when Splinter explicitly gives them permission and expresses concern, but doesn’t make any move to go supervise. And, more than that, it bothers me that we never see Splinter go on any patrols with the turtles. He comes in for big fights and such, but it doesn’t feel like he does much in the day-to-day.

What I really want is a new Turtles show or movie where Splinter has the same protectiveness as Mayhem’s Splinter with the capabilities of 2012’s Splinter; a super over-protective father who wants to be in the fight just as much as his kids are. He insists on being there with them as they finally venture to the surface for the first time, and as the turtles get wrapped up in their usual BS he takes the lead on things like patrols and protecting the city. For the whole first season of this show SPLINTER would be the turtles technical leader, which would give Leo a chance to grow as a character first before the leadership position is given to him. There would also probably be some tension as the turtles begin to feel smothered by Splinter’s overprotectiveness and get to the point where they want to go out on their own, but this Splinter is still Hamato Yoshi deep down and he doesn’t want to give up the adrenaline of being a fighter or give anyone the chance to hurt his sons.

The first season of this show would end with the classic big fight, and in it Splinter would get severely injured. This injury would give the turtles all the push they need to act like a team without Splinter’s guidance; and give Leo the push he needs to step forward and act like a true leader. They beat the big bad guy without Splinter’s help, and Splinter finally realizes that he doesn’t need to be watching every move his sons make. From here Splinter would take on a more traditional role as he heals. He stays in the lair, trains the turtles as best as he can, gives advice, etc. Now of course this Splinter does eventually get restless and there’d probably be a few episodes where HE is the one trying to sneak out of the lair and the turtles get overprotective on him, but he does accept his new role. He’s never the same after his injury and probably has to actively use a walking stick now, but he still finds times where he can actively join the fight.

I don’t know if this is something we’ll ever see but I’m kind of sick of the “I’ll just help out in the big fights” Splinters we’ve seen. I want a Splinter who takes an actually active role in the story, not just a passive mentor figure who only helps when needed. Like dude you can only sit in the sewers and meditate for so long, get a hobby or something. Give me a Splinter who goes LOOKING for a fight and it’s his sons that have to drag him away from it.

So, while I chip away at this comic I was wondering if you had a name for this villain rise Donnie universe - or if it’s up to workshop a title?

Alsssooo- *this will totally not lead to more comic work* but your little blurb mentions that our dear reader is draxum’s lab assistant, so that creates a perfect scenario for them to conveniently be caught in the destruction of his lab once again after the three other turtle brothers stumble upon it as they do in the show (OvO)

WITH THIS IS MIND (this ideas has dragged me to the depths of brain-rot) it becomes the perfect set up for 1) mutated lab assistant and all the angst of no longer being a human AND 2) injuries reflecting Donnie’s terrible past on his lovely and all the emotional turmoil surrounding an injured loved one (maybe a little revenge for #3?)

ANYWAY - just everything involving this villain Donnie universe has taken a hold of me. Everything from the cutesy relationship stuff to just the gut wrenching angst potential

Something I get such a hoot out of with the TMNT fandom is...

If we're talking about 2003, we all know exactly which episode to hype up, because of how disturbing it is. How many fandoms, can say, "there's a banned episode" and the episode eventually did come out... AND WE CAN SAY IT'S ABSOLUTELY AS INTENSE AS IT ACTUALLY IS.

Rise Ramblings #234

While watching “The Clothes Don’t Make The Turtle,” I noticed something.

I found it interesting that Raph, Mikey, and Leo were content with Raph’s outfit choice until Donnie stated that he wasn’t “in love with it, ya’ know.”

Suddenly, Raph declares “I’m a disaster!” Albeit ridiculously endearing, it was a little strange to see his sudden shift from moderately content to absolute dissatisfaction. Huh…

Then, the disaster twins decide to help him out.

Take a note of their outfit choices.

Raph tries on all of these fits and more.

Donnie’s first choice is a mild “no.” Leo’s choice is a hard “NO.” (Not surprising, lol.) But then, the overwhelming consensus lands on Raph’s fourth outfit, which ended up being Donatello’s other pick for his brother.

So, in summary, Raph tried on his personal choice for an outfit, of which they rejected. Then, ultimately, Donatello picked out an outfit for his brother, and that pick ended up being perfect. Hmm…

Then I noticed something else. In this episode, we never get a Donnie “curtain reveal” moment, to our disdain. I mean, Raph, Leo, and Mikey got to try on several different outfits in order to get their brothers' opinions before landing on that “perfect outfit, you know the one.” All of his brothers got to shine. Why not DonTron?

Then it hit me.

The try-ons were to get their brothers' opinions and approval. And, for his brothers' choices, he was a major contributor in assisting them in pulling their looks together.

What if, bear with me, Donnie didn’t need the "curtain scene" because he was so confident in his fashion sense that he didn’t need to ask his brothers for help to pick out a great look.

…or they figured out how to break Hypno’s spell before he could get a “curtain reveal.” BUT STILL-

Look at his outfit choices in this episode. Some of his wardrobe changes were off-screen, but all of them were fire.

To me, he makes some really smart choices for himself, pushing the envelope of what is expected and taking chances: an open collar with no tie for a “black tie” event, a beanie and spiked wristbands for their “gansta look,” no socks with loafers (a viral fashion trend that actually began in Africa) with old man slacks in his reclined pose. *muah* Chef’s kiss!

But Don’s fashion sense doesn’t just shine in this episode.

In “Reparin’ the Baron” the boys go to Draxum’s apartment. Leo and Donnie show up in some extra nice “Sunday Dinner” twin drip.

The gold is in the details. Everything Leo is wearing, Donnie rocks its compliment: for Leo’s round collar, Donnie’s is angled, for Leo’s blue shirt, Donnie’s is white, For Leo’s light slacks, Donnie’s are dark. Blah blah blah. It’s so good!

Look at the winter fit in Snow Day.

Again, Donnie is Leo’s perfect compliment. As a pair? Fire.

Donnie has “the eye.” I can go on and on with examples, but I’ve said all of that to say this…

In the future, we see that Donatello’s technology had major pull in the resistance. He had drone ships patrolling the skies. He built and designed Leo’s arm, Casey’s chainsaw-hockey stick, and Casey's mask. The list goes on…

But, when Donatello from the past see’s Casey’s clothing from the future, he says this:

We know about the “Genius Built” brand. We’ve seen that logo on all of his tech up to this point. But, here he didn’t just say “Genius Built.” He said, “Genius Built Apparel.”

“Apparel” is not a tech brand. “Apparel” is a fashion brand. Of course, tech is incorporated into the clothing, but still.

This means that past Donatello secured this trademark with plans of creating a fashion brand, comparable to the likes of Gucci, Ralph Lauren, or any other modern clothing brand, as a subsidiary of “Genius Built,” the tech company.

And why not? The evidence has been in front of us this entire time. He has a sharp eye for style, fashion, and trends. It is easily canon that he can sew. Splinter sewed their ninja garbs in “Insane in the Mama Train,” and there is a sewing machine in the house.

They already learned Ninjutsu through basically osmosis, so learning to sew is not too far-fetched.

And here it is, right in front of us, Casey’s entire ensemble, from mask, to weapons, to clothing, was made by Donatello in the middle of the apocalypse under the brand name “Genius Built Apparel.”

And that was just in the bad future. Resources were limited, they didn’t have access to much of anything in that broken world as they were survivors of a devastating Krang invasion. Yet, he created all of this.

However, now that they’ve changed the future, his future as a fashion designer is limitless. Think of what Donatello could produce with unlimited resources, unlimited technology, and unlimited creative freedom.

Tech genius. Clothing designer. Fashionista. Future Genius Built Apparel Owner and CEO. I’m sorry, but I have to call it...

Donatello Hamato of the present, of the bad future, and of the good future is a fashion icon, the likes of which the world has never seen. ○○○○

sand in the hourglass; boy lost through time

a couple of weeks late but </3 a tribute for the rottmnt movie anniversary !

its rly hard to put into words how much this movie and franchise has genuinely changed my life for the better ! im so much happier with who i am, the company i keep, and so much more passionate about where i want to go in life just because i decided to watch this series and movie on a whim one day

ive met some of my dearest and closest friends via shared interest in tmnt and as a result im just :] in the best place mentally in all my life bc of it

this series is crazy meaningful to me so i wanted to draw smth big as appreciation; my friend told me it gave the energy of a poster for a movie re-releasing in theaters and i took that to heart to make it as grand as possible

Day 13 Scars

the amount of effort I had to put into these and they still don’t look how I want is frustrating but alas time is not on my side

Mikey: Gave Mikey Lichen Burns from that one time he got disintegrated and then reanimated via electricity. He died n got better and honestly it is one of the most violent injuries that I recall for him. Like he plays it off so easily cuz he has super powers and all that jazz but that’s so messed up. Also Raph yelling for him OOOFFFFF will never forget how filled w rage and hurt that dude was. He was ready to kill ❤️ Such a wild episode and I love how Mikey was so depended on in order for the plan to succeed. It was Mikey’s turn for the Self sacrificing bit and he crushed it

Leo: Get Shreddered idiot!!! The fucked up knee and throat from when he got beat up and thrown thru the window. This is def my fav event to happen which is a wild thing to say. It’s the most obvious thing to go for but I personally loved the farmhouse arc and Leo’s need for recovery. That dude is still not well and is repressing stuff but they don’t have time to heal. Their lives are too chaotic, too much is on the line, and Leo can’t afford to take the time to heal 100% none of them can tbh. I know a lot of ppl hate how 12 handled his knee injury but I loved it Bc it’s obviously not better but he’s a stubborn idiot who chooses to push everything down and out. He is the healthiest turtle for sure. I’m pretty sure in later episodes his knee gives out a few times don’t quote me tho it’s been a few years aha

Raph: His broken shell! After watching Lone Rat and Cubs and seeing where it came from, I always wondered if Splinter looks at it with loads of regret. A physical sign of his short comings that one time they almost got caught by the Kraang. A warning and a constant reminder they’ll never be safe, that splinter wont always be able to protect his babies no matter how hard he fights. I also like to HC he becomes the most hovering and overprotective of Raph while he’s still recovering Bc that shell broke so easy. Honestly seeing screen shots of close ups of Raphs shell is awesome to see both shell and plastron are broken.

Donnie: UGHHH THIS DUDEEEE !!!!! Literally had the hardest time Bc he goes thru a lot also but it’s more emotional and mental dude is fuked up in the head fr. I asked several ppl for help Bc I didn’t want to do another lichen burn thing from Karai’s trap. In the end I played around w the suggestions to see what would look most appealing to me. The scars on arm are from Slash (such a good episode thank you for the suggestion 🙌) as his arm was injured and in a sling at the end of the episode. The head scar def a big creative liberty Bc he does get injured there a lot ahah. I was thinking of Fourtrap again which lead to thinking about the time that Leo blew him up accidentally during is emo phase XD

Breaking it Down

Random thing I thought of but if you break the TMNT title down and give each character one of the attributes, here's how I think it would fall:

TEENAGE: Michelangelo The "party dude" of the turtles, the most likely to pull pranks or goof off, and in a few versions (looking at '03 and a little bit of Rise) the turtle most interested in building his own life and trying new things, it seems like Mikey embodies the essence of being a teenager the most acutely. He enjoys his freedom and fun, though he is still reliant on his brothers, perhaps even more so than he'd like to admit.

MUTANT: Donatello In most versions, Donnie is the only one who truly digs into their mutated origin. It makes sense; he is the scientist of the group, and their very nature is tied directly to science. He showcases the extent of their mutation through his intellect and interests, and he certainly knows the most about the biology behind their mutations.

NINJA: Leonardo Leo is almost always the strongest ninja of the group. He is the most invested in the history of ninjitsu and honing his skills, often the one to drag the others into training or to learn higher-level skills purely for his own benefit. He usually embodies the role of "ninja" most clearly.

TURTLE: Raphael Raph is the shell of his team, the one who takes the brunt of the hits in order to keep his brothers safe. Turtles represent perseverance, protection, and strength - all of which are traits that Raphael exhibits very clearly.

I think some argument could be made in a couple places, but really I was a bit surprised at how well these all fell.
