Jason starts working with the Bats and he feels guilty. He is guilty.
Sure, he wasn't in his right mind during the Tower incident, not entirely, but he was in his right mind when he was planning it. The Pit could only take over for so long.
So maybe, when things start to get better between him and the bats, he takes up a case with Robin.
It's an easy case, but he's still impressed by how quickly Robin solves it.
Maybe Tim smiles when he solves the case and Jason ruffles his hair and tells him he did a good job--because god, Tim's just a kid; how could he not?
And maybe Tim keeps coming back after that.
Maybe Tim keeps solving all of Red Hood's cases before Jason can. Maybe Tim keeps taking over for Jason and maybe Jason starts to feel less guilty and more pissed off because he knows that he never fully thought things through as Robin and he knows that Bruce took on Tim as Robin because he did. He knows Tim is the smart Robin, but Tim has neither the right nor reason to rub it in his face, so maybe he snaps at Tim--tells him to get the fuck out of sight, tells him that he might not be the smartest person in the room but he's not some fucking idiot, tells him that he knows what he's doing and he doesn't need some fucking kid just going around solving his cases for him. Maybe, Jason tells Tim that he's not needed.
And maybe the guilt comes back when Tim leaves with tears in his eyes.
But, Jason thinks, all the guilt in the world isn't enough to override the anger and let Tim back in, not after he called Jason an idiot with everything but his words.
And then, maybe Jason is working a case and it expands past his territory and he finds himself in the cave, working with Batman. Maybe neither of them can solve it and Tim walks in, excitedly talking to Dick about something. (Jason isn't listening too closely.)
Maybe Bruce calls Tim over and Jason flinches--he didn't remember Bruce ever being that harsh when he was Robin.
Maybe Tim solves the case and Bruce turns back to Jason and starts planning their next step without so much as a thank you.
Maybe it's odd, to Jason, how Bruce and Tim don't act like a Batman and Robin to each other, and that thought sticks with him, bugging him whenever he has a quiet moment, so maybe a week or two passes before he asks Dick about it.
Maybe Dick's smile is sad when he explains how they've always been like that. Tim, always striving for attention, Bruce never giving it. Maybe Bruce's standards rose above what was physically possible in the wake of Jason's death and maybe Dick sobs himself to sleep every once in a while because that hasn't stopped tim from trying.
Maybe Tim was okay for a bit whenever Dick was in town because he could help Dick on cases and Dick would smile and applaud every little thing he did, but Dick lived in a different city, so Tim couldn't help as much with Dick's cases as he could with Bruce's.
Maybe, Dick says something under his breath--a passing comment about how surprised he is that Tim didn't come to Jason and try to solve all his cases just for a kind word or two, hoping that maybe the Red Hood's love of kids and their happiness would extend to him.
Maybe Jason feels his stomach drop as the final piece of the puzzle clicks in place--how at first, Tim came with cases every so often, smiled and leaned in whenever Jason said a kind word to him, and how, when Jason started thinking that Tim was doing this to spite Jason was when he stopped giving that praise to Tim, which had the boy solving more and more cases for him, working harder and harder without being asked just so that maybe--maybe Jason would tell him he did a good job. Jason wondered just how far Tim would go if someone promised him a smile.
Maybe the guilt is too much for him and he pushed it down, only saying, "I don't think he'd risk it--not after the Tower."
Maybe Dick has something sad in his eyes when he says, "He's done more for less."
Maybe Jason tries again to bring Tim into his cases, but Tim refuses, promises not to intrude, promises he learned his lesson, and maybe Jason cries because Tim has never asked for an apology after Titan's Tower, but one hint that he's overstepped and Tim begs forgiveness.
Maybe Jason focuses a little too much on how to bring Tim closer--make him feel loved again and make it clear that Jason just didn't understand what Tim that Tim was trying to help--make sure Tim knew he was welcome.
But maybe Tim refused.
And maybe, Jason got so focused on Tim that he stopped focusing on patrol and got over his head. Maybe, just on pure happenstance, Tim was nearby that night and he couldn't let anything happen to his Robin.
Maybe Tim swooped in to save the day and Jason grabbed onto his wrist when he tried to leave.
Maybe Tim apologized but Jason just pulled him in and hugged him--a full hug, one arm around Tim's back, the other, tucking Tim's head into his chest, and maybe Jason said, "Thank you so much, Robin. I needed you to save me."
Maybe Tim cried when it happened. Maybe, under his mask, Jason was crying as well. Maybe, they got closer after that, Jason, needing to be trusted to care for something and Tim just needing to be cared for.
And it takes time, but maybe there comes a day when Jason looks Tim in the eye and tells him that he's important and valuable and incredibly loved regardless of whether or not he's needed. Maybe it take a few years before Tim believes him, and when he does, he hugs Jason and cries into his arms, but it's okay because Jason knew it would happen sooner or later, and it's okay, it's okay, he has tissues.
Maybe Jason apologizes for what happened at the Tower and Tim admits that he forgave him for that a while ago.
Maybe.
Maybe.
Who could say for sure?

What Day Is It?
July 19: Forgetting an important date | offense
If Danny was a better planner, he would have been paying attention to the date. If Danny had been paying attention, he would have known what date it was. If his phone hadn’t been destroyed in the last fight, he would’ve gotten an alert to what day it was.
Yet, none of those things happened. Danny hadn’t seen the date, hadn’t checked. Hadn’t thought to check. He’d been living at the tower for so long, he’d grown complacent, hadn’t thought about the fact that the seasons were changing.
Hell, he hadn’t even really processed the fact that Garfield asked Robin what day it was. And got a response! Danny heard it out loud, and it hadn’t registered in his head. No, the fault is his own. He has no one to blame but himself.
It just would have been better for it to click in his head what day it was not in the middle of a fight with Killer Moth.
Kori ducked under one of the creatures that flew over her, hands glowing with her blasts as she shot to wound some of them. Danny was near her, releasing a cool breath to ice over their wings so they would fall. Garf was currently a gorilla smacking bunches of the down at a time.
Robin threw his bird-a-rangs at the creatures, grappling all around the battlefield to get closer to Killer Moth and stop his device. Rachel was providing cover, using her powers to restrict multiple of the creatures before throwing them to the ground. Victor was tailing behind Robin, shooting any being that got too close, but aiming to help hack the device.
That was the plan, anyway.
None of the creatures had even put a scratch on Danny, not really. He was getting better at remembering to go incorporeal, letting any blow go through him than land. It was something he had told Robin he wanted to train more to do on instinct than not, and Robin had agreed. Robin will be proud of how much progress he’s made.
The point is, none of the beings they were fighting had landed a hit on Danny, so why was pain suddenly coursing through him?
It started with his left palm, causing him to hiss as the ice blast flickers before going out. The pain is sharp yet jolted, almost pulsing. It crawls up his arm, causing the muscles to spasm in the worst kind of way. He loses the ability to focus on flying once the pain spreads past his arm and begins to crawl through the rest of him.
Hitting the ground so hard a crater forms doesn’t hurt as much as the pain he’s currently experiencing. Some of his muscles are locking, other muscles are jolting and spasming. He has no control of his body, teeth clenched and eyes closed. He can’t even curl in on himself, offer any comfort.
Ringing in his ear, that’s all he can hear. The worst pain he’s felt in a while coursing through him. Is he seizing? He can’t tell if he’s seizing. Why is this happening? Why is he in so much pain? He hasn’t felt like this since–
A yell pushes through his teeth as he realizes what’s happening. What day it is.
His Death Day. August 24.
Fuck, fuck he knew it was coming. He’s always been so careful. Making sure he’s in the Far Frozen when this happens. Frostbite always knows how to soothe the pain. Hailwind, Frostbite’s coremate, always has a drink ready for him afterwards.
Are they wondering where he is? Are they worried about him? Fuck, he was so stupid. So so stupid.
Sounds, so many sounds are around him. But he feels like he’s underwater. He can’t understand what any of the sounds means, he can’t tell what’s happening.
But he feels when someone grabs him, touches him. It burns, it burns so much. Please, please stop. Please don’t hurt him. He’s sorry, he didn’t mean to—
“Frostbite!” he manages to call out, his throat has a lump in it. “Frostbite please!”
Is he crying? He wouldn’t be surprised if he was crying. He just wants his dad. He wants Frostbite. He wants to go home—
Coolness touches him, and he can finally breathe.
“Dad?” Danny whimpers, the pain still too strong for him to manage to open his eyes.
His father chirps at him, core rumbling. Danny relaxes into the hold, the pain still coursing through him.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t realize what day it was,” Danny whispers as he digs his face into the familiar fur.
“Don’t apologize, frostling,” his dad soothes, pressing a soothing kiss onto his head.
“Please make the pain go away,” Danny begs, hands clutching whatever fur he can.
“I’ll do what I can,” his dad assures, his hands becoming a lot cooler as they rub Danny’s back.
“What’s happening to him?” a semi-deep voice Danny should recognize demands, firm.
“Thank you for taking care of my son, but I will be taking him now. He can explain when he wants to,” Frostbite replies to the voice, not answering.
Good. Danny doesn’t want strangers to know what is happening to him. He feels so vulnerable, out in the open. He wants to be home. He wants to go home.
“But—” the male goes to protest, but something stops him.
“Leave it be, Robin. Phantom called for this being, called him dad. He’ll take care of him,” a more feminine, yet slightly monotone, voice speaks up.
“Thank you,” Frostbite says softly, offering a smile. “You’ve all made my son your family and taken care of him. He’ll be safe, I promise.”
“Home,” Danny groans out, feeling another strong course of electricity run through him. “Please, I want to go home, dad.”
Frostbite softly shushes him, pushing his hair out of his face as he plants another kiss on his forehead.
“We’re going, Hailwind has some hot coco brewing for whenever you’re up to it.”
Danny forces a smile as he cracks his eyes open slightly.
“Yes please,” Danny whimpers, vision blurry through all the tears.
Frostbite chirps soothingly at Danny as a hand lets go of him. He feels his dad making a sweeping motion, hears the familiar sound of a portal. Danny barely feels the familiar shiver down his spine as Frostbite walks through it, feeling his body jolt against his will.
He hears people whisper behind him as the portal closes, cutting their words off.
💀📅
Danny comes to with a hot cup of coco in front of his face.
He groans as he sits up properly to accept the cup, his muscles protesting and groaning.
“Was it that time of year already?” Danny mumbles, hands curling around the cup.
“Yes it was, young one,” his pa confirms, sitting on the bed next to him.
Hailwind’s hand comes up and pushes his hair back. A soft kiss is placed on his forehead. Blissfully cold and chill.
Danny feels himself relax as he takes a sip of the warm drink.
“I don’t remember coming here,” Danny admits after he lowers the cup, fingers twitching slightly in anxiety.
“Well,” his pa hesitates, right ear flicking slightly as he pushes his mouth into a thin line, “to be honest this year wasn’t like the other years.”
Danny frowns as his brows furrow.
“What do you mean?” Danny questions, taking another sip of the rich chocolate drink.
He doesn’t know how Hailwind makes it taste so good, but it’s the best hot chocolate he’s ever had. Human world kinds don’t compare.
“Frostbite had to come to retrieve you,” his pa admits, running his claws gently against Danny’s scalp.
“I don’t remember that,” Danny replies, leaning into Hailwind’s hold.
“You were in the middle of a fight. Or … you were?” his pa ponders, tilting his head slightly. “The fight seemed to be over by the time your dad got there.”
Danny’s brows furrowed. A fight? If he was in a fight, does that mean—
“Did I start …” Danny trails off, biting his lower lip anxiously.
“Your father and I were worried when you didn’t show up when you usually do,” his pa begins to explain, pulling Danny close against his side. “After it had been too long for us, Frostbite came after you.”
“And he found me while I was around … my friends,” Danny breathes out, curling closer into his pa.
“Yes,” his pa confirms, turning his head to press a kiss against Danny’s head. “You were on the ground, a crater had formed around you. He got there as soon as one of your friends tried to grab you.”
Danny tucks his face into Hailwind’s shoulder, his own shoulders drawn up as much as he could.
“Can’t imagine that went well,” Danny sighs, closing his eyes as he allows the soft fur to soothe him.
“No, you started to scream and call for your dad,” his pa admits.
Danny lets out a deep breath, handing Hailwind the cup. Only after he hears it clink on the end table does he climb more into his pa’s lap.
“This is awful,” Danny says into Hailwind’s chest. “They’re going to have so many questions.”
His pa hums, Danny feeling the movement on his face in the other’s chest.
“You only have to answer what questions you’re comfortable answering,” his pa assures him, one hand still running gently against his scalp while the other rubs his back.
“But if I don’t answer them they’re going to be so annoying about it,” Danny bemoans, turning his face so his ear is pressed against his pa’s chest.
Hailwind chuckles gently, body shaking slightly with it.
“That’s what happens when you join the Teen Titans,” his pa teases gently.
Danny huffs out an annoyed breath.
“I’m a teen, Pa. What team was I supposed to join? The Justice League?” Danny asks sarcastically.
“Just saying,” Hailwind goes on, ignoring Danny’s sass, “you can’t expect a group of teenagers to be completely emotionally mature about something.”
Danny huffs, knowing his pa has a point but not wanting to admit it.
“Yeah yeah, whatever,” Danny mutters, turning his head to the other side.
Focusing, he brings the cup of hot chocolate back to him and takes another sip. Still warm, even though it shouldn’t be. His pa is the best.
“Thank you,” Danny says after he gulps down half of the cup.
“Of course, Bear,” his pa replies, pressing another kiss on his head. “We’re always here for you, whenever and whatever you need.”
Danny feels tears begin to gather in his eyes, and wipes at them.
“I don’t deserve you,” Danny eventually says, a lump in his throat.
“That’s the thing, frostling,” his pa starts, voice gently yet serious, “we’re family. You don’t have to deserve us. We don’t feel like we deserve you either.”
Danny hums, a small smile tugging at his lips.
“Will you help me figure out what I’m going to say to them?” Danny asks after he finishes his drink.
“Of course, Bear, of course,” Hailwind tells him, a smile on his face.
💀📅
Danny shakes himself slightly, trying to rid himself of the nerves he feels climbing their way through him.
He’s ready, he practiced what he was going to say with his pa and dad. He discussed what boundaries he could set, and which ones he would, and what to say if they asked certain things that crossed a line. He was also reminded that worse comes to worse, he could come home.
Though, his parents assured him that wouldn’t happen. It was clear that his team cares about him.
But Danny’s not sure.
Most of the team, sans Robin, has revealed their secret identity. Danny told them his first name is Danny, which isn’t untrue, but he hadn’t shared the whole truth. All they knew for sure was that he was a ghost boy who wanted to help. That was good enough for them.
How are they going to react when he explains everything? Does he even have to? His parents told him all he had to share was what he was comfortable sharing. Theoretically he could just explain his Death Day, all ghosts have them. You don’t have to be a half-ghost to have a Death Day.
But … but Danny doesn’t want to half explain. He wants to share all of himself with them. Because he trusts them. And part of him wants to see if they’ll accept all of him. He’s come to think of them like family, so he hopes they take the news well.
With a final sigh and shake, he phases through into the common area.
Everyone is gathered, Robin is pacing, Rachel is meditating, Garfield and Victor are playing video games, and Kori is floating near Robin while shooting him nervous glances. They all snap their heads towards him when he lets the invisibility fall away from him.
All of them shout a form of his name as they rush over, Robin the first one to reach him.
Robin’s eyes seem to scan over him, hands reaching up to physically check for any wounds. Kori and Rachel are on either side of Robin, doing their own checks. Garf transforms into a hawk and perches on Robin’s shoulder, Victor towering over all of them as his own eyes do a scan.
“What happened? Are you alright?” Kori questions as Robin flips Danny around to check for any more injuries.
“I’m fine,” Danny answers, letting them finish checking him to soothe their own nerves.
“What happened?” Robin demands, turning him back around.
Danny does his best to offer a soothing smile, but he fears it comes out as a bit of a grimace based on their reactions.
“It was my own fault, I lost track of time,” Danny states, letting out a sigh as he rubs his arm nervously.
“What does that even mean?” Garf questions, face scrunching up as much as it can in hawk form, wings rustling slightly.
Danny lets out a big breath, steadying himself.
“So, you know how I’m a ghost?” Danny asks, all of them nodding. “Well, ghosts who become ghosts through … death have a …”
Danny pauses again, sighing as he runs his hand through his hair. His legs become a tail as he wraps it around himself for a sense of comfort.
“This is a bit hard to explain, I’ve never had to explain it to the living before,” Danny explains.
“You don’t have to explain if it’s too much for you,” Rachel assures. “We all have parts of us we don’t feel comfortable sharing.”
“It’s not that,” Danny says. “I want to explain. I don’t want to keep any part of me hidden, not anymore.”
“Take your time, man. We’re listening,” Victor promises.
Danny offers him a smile as he releases another breath.
“Ghosts who have died have what we call a Death Day,” Danny begins to explain, moving towards the couches and taking a seat. “Every year on your Death Day, you re-experience the thing that killed you.”
He doesn’t look to see their reactions. He’s not sure what reaction he wants. None would be ideal. He doesn’t want sympathy, or to see the sadness in their eyes. It’s a part of his life, and he doesn’t want to have to hold their feelings about it along with his own.
“Point is, August 27th is my Death Day. I forgot it was so close, and wasn’t paying attention to the date. I usually go to spend my Death Day with my folks. They always make the pain … less,” Danny explains, running a hand through his hair.
“I’ll make sure to mark the date so that we don’t have something like this happen again,” Robin assures, surprising Danny slightly with how close he is.
“Yeah dude! And we can make a care basket or something for you next year to take with you!” Garfield pipes up, taking the form of the cat as he rubs his body against Danny’s legs comfortingly.
“On my planet, we would have a date to celebrate the dead, perhaps we could do that for you if you’d like,” Kori offers, a smile on her face.
“I have some techniques that help with physical pain that could help you perhaps,” Rachel proposes.
“And I have some lotion I made that helps me during bad pain days,” Victor suggests.
Danny feels his lips wobble and his eyes gather moisture.
“You guys would do all that for me?” Danny asks.
“Of course!” Kori exclaims.
“You’re family, man,” Victor follows up with.
“Can I … show you something else then?” Danny asks nervously.
They all nod, backing up slightly to give him space.
“I am a ghost, and my name is Danny Phantom, but …” Danny sighs as he closes his eyes, concentrating.
He feels the familiar tingle course through him, like a toned down experience of the day prior, run through him as he transforms.
“But I’m also a human. Danny Fenton,” Danny finishes, opening his eyes.
His teammates look a varying degree of surprised. Even Robin looks a little shocked, though he covers it up better than the rest of them.
“Wow,” Garfield mutters, eyes wide as he looks up at Danny.
“I’m a … I’m a halfa,” Danny begins nervously explaining, hands twisting together. “At least, that’s what they call me in my home dimension. Half-ghost, half-human. We’re not very common. Most people die all the way, not just halfway.”
Rachel nods, hand coming up to her chin as she seems to think.
“I believe I’ve read about halfa’s in one of my tomes,” Rachel says thoughtfully. “There’s not a lot of knowledge about them due to their rarity.”
“Wait, if you’re half-human, then how come your dad’s are yetis?” Victor asks, brows furrowed in confusion.
Danny laughs a little at that as Kori elbows Victor.
“You cannot ask someone about their parentage, Victor! It’s quite rude,” Kori hisses under her breath.
“Honestly it was the first thing I thought you’d ask when I revealed myself,” Danny admits, smiling to show that he’s not offended.
Victor smiles sheepishly anyway, offering an apology.
“Frostbite and Hailwind took me in after some … unfortunate events in my past,” Danny explains, stomach clenching as he thinks about what happened.
He wants to explain everything to them, but perhaps not everything everything. Some things still hurt too much to talk about.
Robin nods in understanding, offering a smile.
“Thanks for explaining this to us, Danny. It takes a lot of guts to open yourself up to people,” Robin says, pulling Danny in for a hug.
“We love you Danny,” Kori says, joining in on the hug.
And, before he knows it, everyone else has joined. He’s surrounded by his team, nah, his family. They’re all hugging him, holding him, they accepted him.
Danny smiles wide, hugging them all back.
“I love you guys, too.”

batfam fics i've written and my favorite quotes from them
(all are whumptober one-shots)
A Robin at Rest
Tim gave Jason a confused look, but the boy only huffed out a small laugh, “God, you’re just a kid.”
Tim looked away, mumbling, “I’m fifteen. Not a kid.”
His parents wouldn’t have given him so much independence if he was a kid.
Kids weren’t supposed to take care of themselves.
“Didn’t mean it in a bad way.” Jason leaned back, so he way laying horizontally at the base of the bed, staring at the blank ceiling. “I was fifteen when I died.”
Wantless, Needless
Bruce cringed at the reminder. “You did fine.” He did more than he ever should have. That was something Bruce never should have done, but with the way Tim smiled like he understood, Bruce assumed they were okay.
“But ‘fine’ isn't enough, is it?”
They were not okay.
Phantom Mornings, or the Ghost of Good Mourners
Every argument with Bruce threatened to have him spilling his guts—spilling his mind—until both were empty, but as horrible as the medicine tasted going down, it was always worse when it came back up, so, no matter how much he wanted to tell Bruce, "You cannot take the fault for your own actions, so I have to do it for you," he would always water down his words to, "I'll do better."

Look I'm not saying Geoff Johns has to know absolutely everything about the characters he writes about esp the secondary ones, and I also don't know what kind of pressures dc editorial put on him, but all I'm saying is when writing Mia's first arc/mission in the teen titans he could have bothered to read the one single chapter Winick wrote about Mia joining the team. Like:
> Mia in Winick's chapter: can shoot the center of a target while blindfolded
VS
> Mia in John's chapter: can't hit Dr Light because she's blinded by his light
***
> Mia in Winick's chapter: fights robots and Robin in a training exercice where she's an absolute badass and implies/challenges Tim to a rematch soon. Winick also characterizes Mia as strategic, she is a sharpshooter who stands from a distance and takes her tome evaluating the situation before jumping in at the correct moment (happens at the beginning of that chapter in her Speedy intro + later in the chapter when she fights Tim and watches his every move and refuses to be the first to move)
> Mia in John's chapter: sees the Titans doing a training exercice and immediately misunderstands the situation as real combat and jumps in and attacks cyborg.
***
> and most fucking importantly, Mia in Winick's chapter: "While I confidently talked about my hiv status in highschool and don't regret it because it was important, the titans are different because of don't know me and I don't want them to think of me as the girl with hiv so I don't want to share my status with them." She is a complex person with a nuanced position towards her status depending on the situation and her decision makes total sense. She's already had an arc of coming to terms with her status and doesn't seem ashamed about it, but she is aware of the social stigma surrounding it.
> Mia in John's chapter: immediately fucking reveals her status as a secret that she apparently absolutely has to confess with a shy/shameful attitude despite there being no sudden necessity for it.
Like, it was one chapter, Johns. One single chapter. How hard could it be.

Dick Grayson and Barry Allen both having brief prison arcs isn't why I like them, however

I’m gonna be honest I didn’t realize the new 52 messed with Kon that much till I read your post and now I can’t get over the potential. I’m a Tim/Kon girly at heart so I would devour anything you write exploring the 52 vs typical Kon. Also Time being in a clone sandwich is 👌.
the new-52 messed Kon up SO bad it's ridiculous. like, to the point i would personally argue he's a completely unrelated character to pre-Flashpoint/Rebirth Kon. his personality, his suit, his origin, all different. the only real similarities are the name and powerset. and even New-52!Kon's powers are slightly different from pre-Flashpoint!Kon. New-52!Kon is a clone of a future version of Jon Lane Kent, cloned by N.O.W.H.E.R.E. to provide genetic material to Jon Lane Kent, whose body was not handling being half human/half Kryptonian well, it was a whole thing. New-52!Kon is also where we get the infamous "Kon-El means 'abomination of the house of El' and Kara basically named him a slur in Kryptonian culture" tidbit, because that is the only time that's canon. (originally Kon-El was a name gifted by Clark to accept Kon as his family way back in the 90s) he also never went by Conner Kent. New-52!Kon just straight up didn't have any real human identity or connections, outside of being very close to Tim and some Titans.
the very TLDR of Kon's history is: during post-Crisis/pre-Flashpoint, a clone called Superboy is created by CADMUS. at first, he's considered to be a clone of a dude named Paul Westfield and is not Kryptonian whatsoever, he was simply made to look like Superman and only has Tactile Telekinesis as a power. then, it was made canon that actually he was a clone of Lex Luthor and Clark Kent, but Lex hid this fact and slowly, Kon developed more Kryptonian powers. he's given the name Kon-El by Clark, and is taken in by the Kents, getting the name Conner Kent. then Flashpoint happens, we get the New-52, and we're given the above version of Kon-El, who is a clone of Jon Lane Kent, created by N.O.W.H.E.R.E. who has mostly very strong telekinesis powers and some Kryptonian powers. he's with the Titans for a bit, then at the end of the New-52, he kills some aliens and feels bad about it so he decides to fuck off and is never seen again, it's presumed he's dead but never confirmed. then Rebirth happens and DC makes Jon Kent the current Superboy, we get Supersons and all that, and it's assumed that no version of Kon-El exists. just at all. he's not around whatsoever, Jon is our only Superboy. *but* in 2019, we get a new Young Justice run and the pre-Flashpoint Kon-El is back, and we're given the explanation of: Kon got accidentally teleported to this alternate realm called Gemworld and then Flashpoint happened, and since that was a Crisis Event that changed the timeline, the poor lad got *erased* from the timeline, causing most people to *not fucking remember him* and for him to remember a timeline that no longer exists. some of the Young Justice team vaguely remember him, Ma and Pa Kent remember him, but notably, Clark *does not remember him*. it's not an issue of "Clark ignored Kon in favor of Jon" it's an issue of "Kon was erased from the timeline and didn't exist for years bc he was stuck in Gemworld and Clark just doesn't remember Kon or Kon's timeline" which to me, is far more tragic but i digress. since then, Kon has been back and is present in most significant Superfamily runs, with his own recent mini-series, Superboy: Man of Tomorrow. (which was very good btw)
so basically: the New-52 fucked Kon up so bad they wrote him out of comics for years and then brought back the pre-Flashpoint version, but never *explicitly* killed the New-52 version off. so hypothetically, it's possible that there are currently two characters existing in the DC universe named Kon-El who have been Superboy. and like i said above, one of New-52!Kon's only real significant relationships was with Tim, it was the only thing the New-52 managed to get right about Superboy, his closeness to Tim. they have a *lot* of moments that read incredibly queer. and ofc, it's just outright confirmed in Dark Crisis: Young Justice that Tim had a crush on pre-Flashpoint!Kon at some point. so while comics are intent on pretending New-52!Kon doesn't exist, i am intent on putting Tim in a clone sandwich.
because i do think it's fun to play with Tim having genuine feelings and potentially a relationship with both of them. and the fucked up nature of him not fully *remembering* his relationship with pre-Flashpoint!Kon (which is a canon thing, in YJ(2019) Tim has vague memories of Kon he's struggling to piece together and understand why he cares about this guy he doesn't recognize so much) and how frustrating that is for Tim. he knows he loves Kon, but it's all foggy besides that. and so it's even *more* fucked up if Tim dated New-52!Kon before he got emo and ran off into the unknown. obviously in canon no one has told current Kon about New-52!Kon bc comics are doing the good ol' tried and true of "sweep that shit under the rug" but for fanfic, i think it's fun to ask the question of: would anyone *tell* Kon? especially Tim? who now remembers dating both versions of them? would he admit to Kon that briefly, he had another Kon? how would Tim cope with that and move on? personality wise, they could not be more different. they dress and act and look different. they're not the same person, but there's certainly a questionable factor of Tim's dating history including two Kon-Els.
the idea i've had for a while is Tim slowly starting to date pre-Flashpoint!Kon again. it feels familiar and like home. and Tim has grieved and accepted that wherever New-52!Kon is, he doesn't want to come home, he didn't love TIm enough to stay and try. so Tim takes the Kon he has, and genuinely has a happy relationship. like for once, life is good and things almost make sense for Tim. but then, of course, New-52!Kon comes back. he decides he wants to try again and he finds Tim. only to find well. he's been replaced. and technically, he's been replaced with the *original* that he didn't even know *existed*. and if being a clone is bad enough, that just makes it a hundred times worse. because imagine knowing you're actually the second Kon-El your boyfriend who you never *technically* broke up with fell in love with. that's gotta give you some kind of complex.
so i think it's fun if both Kons try to step back and let the other Kon date Tim. both of them have reasons to feel like the "replacement" or "fake" Kon, and it makes them incredibly awkward with each other. do they count as the same person? bc they definitely don't *feel* like the same person to each other, but with weird timeline stuff, who can really say. them settling on an awkward throuple that's really meant to be Tim just dating them both but somehow they end up dating each other too is so fun for me. they both feel like imposters to the Superboy name but are so deeply in love with Tim Drake, it's the one thing truly connecting them. and then of course, Tim feels bad in that somehow, he's betraying both of them for having feelings for the other. but they make it work, with a lot of awkward angst and miscommunication. i just think it'd be fun. very difficult to write to get all the weird timeline nuances down in a way that's understandable in a fanfic (bc you can't just. infodump like i did on this post) but doable. also difficult to tag, because even though i argue these are two different characters, i'm pretty sure Ao3 groups them under the same character tag. so it'd be difficult to convey it's not *really* as selfcest-y as it would imply. comics, man. DC will never acknowledge New-52!Kon again, and he's admittedly a terrible adaptation of Kon-El, but. i think he was sort of neat in his own right and i'd *love* for DC to just inexplicably bring him back and make the current Kon deal with the consequences of all that. and them make Tim kiss them both. obviously.
#necrotic answerings#timkon#how do I tag this ship i'm so serious#kontimkon#I fucking *guess*?#also just plain Kon/Kon could be neat as well#I don't view it as selfcest. but like. I understand if ppl do#also if I got some details wrong i'm so sorry#I was tipsy writing this.#new-52!Kon you were a disaster child but come back from the war I miss you.#i'd need to reread the new-52 superboy and teen titans run to write this#just to be sure I've got a solid grasp on his character#pre-flashpoint!Kon I understand just fine he's my son I've read most of his content#new-52!Kon. eeeeeh. i've read it. years ago. and I'm not even sure if I actually read it all through or just bits and pieces#I hated him when he existed be like. he fucked up Kon so bad we fucking lost Kon for a couple years#but in hindsight. he had potential.#also if you want another bizarre fun fact about the new-52#Tim was never Robin in the new-52. he went straight to being Red Robin.#also his parents are alive and in witsec. do with that what you will.#weird times.#I guess new-52!Kon could've been erased by rebirth but I don't think he was?? bc characters have recalled his existence so?#hypothetically he *should* exist???#and if he doesn't#*oh well* I do what I want#DC you may not care about the implications of your retcons and reboots but I do. I do.#I want more fandom acknowledgement of Kon getting fucking erased from the timeline and no one remembering him#yes it's fun to make Clark a bad dad#but Kon was forgotten! by almost everyone! that's also fun!#young justice (2019) isn't the *best* comic ever but it's still solid! lots of good Kon whump I tell you.#he was fucking going *through* it that run I tell you. by God.
