Okay, Thunder Junction spoilers are ago and they're really fun so far! There's a lot of fun legacy characters coming back and it all just feels very warm and fuzzy to me. However, something more important has caught my eye.

I honestly don't really like how Odysseus defeated Poseidon. Maybe with explanations from Jay, time, and the last saga releasing I'll come around to it, but yeah. I feel like it would have been so much more logical to see Odysseus try to be as ruthless as possible, while being cunning, but ultimately failing because it's POSEIDON, and then Zeus comes in and is like "that's enough, let the Greek go" or something. Because he's not only the king, but it would redeem him from that mess in God Games.

Fans who dislike criticism, please stay away from this post because I will not hesitate to speak my mind.

I'm glad to see others still have faith in Epic, but I'm sorry to say that I don't hope as much anymore. I did try after God Games but it only let me down. And I don't think any amount of explaining and marinating time can make it any better.

Epic the Vengeance Saga not only nerf down Poseidon in the most ridiculous way possible when he was an undoubtedly powerful god-king who was revered as the Biggest Villain throughout the musical, it also broke its own establishment that the gods always have a power leverage over the humans. Odysseus was tip-toeing around all of them, even with the seemingly friendly ones like Aeolus and Hermes, because he's literally one wrong move away from getting killed by them.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: If Odysseus needed a power boost from the moly just to corner Circe, he had no chance with Poseidon when he had nothing but a sword and a wind bag. No amount of pure rage and wife loving can help him charge at the King of the Sea (in his own domain even!) and leave unscathed, he'll be lucky Poseidon just drown him faster the second time. That cheap Gary Stu fight traded good storytelling for some dramatic effect and ruined it for me.

Any other route for the Odysseus VS Poseidon showdown would be significantly better. Like you said, Odysseus can try to fight or just defend himself against Poseidon for as long as he could, then Zeus and the other Olympians can intervene to save him. And yeah, Zeus deserve a redemption and an apology for ruining his image and establishment in the musical (his attack is also super OOC)

If there's an Epic adaptation on a different media, I seriously hope they'll rewrite Six Hundred Strike completely. Anything but that godawful mess.

OH MY GOD okay so I just watched the little snippet of King, right? The one where the suitors are hiding as odysseus slaughters them all? One line in particular stood out to me

“Keep your head down! He’s aiming for the torches!”

And you know how in Scylla he lit up the six torches and had eurylochus hand them out to his men so scylla would eat them? Yeah…

The line “we are the same you and I” is hitting me even harder now

I personally like Thunder's prosthetic. Explained it to my friend (who does use a mobility device, a cane and wheelchair, and listens to me rant and infodump about BB) and they agreed, it's important to know that not every person needs what someone wants to give them. It's another example of "bad ableist person does a thing that hurts a disabled person because they are bad and ableist".

Clear Sky got Jagged Peak killed and would have killed Sunlit Frost! He would absolutely force his disabled son to be "normal" and present it like a privilege. "I wouldn't do this for anyone else, it's special, why don't you want to be helped?"

Thunder Storm should toss it in Clear Sky's face. (I would say toss it into the river but we do not pollute waterways in this house)

Since BB!DOTC tackles some of the heaviest topics in the entire series because its canon equivalent is so dark, I think very carefully about what I do here and how I show it. I take feedback on its sensitive aspects very seriously. If I'm understanding the criticism properly, it's that I should avoid stigmatizing prosthetics by making sure Thunder Storm's not the only one with it-- which he's not! And I'll add even more.

I don't want to avoid something only because it's uncomfortable if the topic is important, and my portrayal is respectful. Ableism IS uncomfortable! There are some situations where a prosthetic is not wanted! I think the rejection of this particular one is both a good opportunity to show a type of ableism and ALSO is very fitting for the characters.

In BB!Clear Sky's mind, the villain, he's fixing an old mistake. He can't admit that he got Jagged Peak killed or take REAL accountability for it (though he will, occasionally, apologize insincerely), but deep in his bones, he knows what he did was cruel. He'll never tell anyone this because he doesn't really cognate it himself, but Thunder Storm NEEDS to take his gift.

If Thunder doesn't take it, it blows a hole in his newest story. You see, throwing Jagged Peak out was All That Could Have Been Done back then. It was a Tragedy and he simply Made A Hard Choice. He regrets it very much, But You Have To Understand.

But now? Now? Well, behold. Look at what he's accomplished since the tragic death of his little brother. His cats are well-fed, cared for, and stable enough to make such incredible advancements. If only Jagged Peak had been able to hold on longer, if only he could be here now, I could fix him.

Just like I can (MAKE YOU JUST LIKE ME) fix you.

"Everything I've ever done is for Jagged Peak. For Fluttering Wing. For you." Thunder Sky is SPECIAL, but if he rejects any gift, tries to turn down the "privileges" offered to him, in an instant that becomes ungratefulness and arrogance. He both forces him to be special, and then leverages it against him if it's rejected. "Spoiled brat, doesn't appreciate what I've worked so hard to give him."

It all goes back to him and his own guilt. He can NEVER be wrong. He can't accept his family doesn't have to be "normal" or reflect his own ability. He won't see himself as a bully, let alone a murderer. It was never about his son's comfort or finding out what Thunder Storm wants or needs, it was about his own ego.

...All that said I'm still taking feedback if there's anything else I should keep in mind, or if anyone has a counter point, especially if you also have experience here.

So, I forgot that Lady Death, the cosmic being, the personification of Death.

A Cosmic Beying is Beyond a god. Thor: Love and Thunder actually showed us her statue with her cosmic being brethren.

The clearest version we see of Death is the moment Jane decides to sacrifice her life.

ETA: Just wanted to add, we actually don't know yet if Rio is Lady Death OR just a personification of Lady Death, aka one of her Reapers.

We just know, for the Witches, Rio is Death.

I was musing on Epic the Musical. I've seen a few animatics for suffering, but they all show Ody on the ship/the siren not looking like his wife. So I'd like to throw my interpretation from the livestream into the mix. Suffering didn't have any artwork/animatic for it like the other songs, so it's interpretation can be really anything.

I imagined it as a flashback, with ethereal background lighting and whimsy feel to it. A young Penelope swimming in a tide pool of sorts, hair floating freely in the water as she splashes and floats like a kid. (Young) Ody is on the rocks nearby, watching with a lovesick expression. As Penelope keeps trying to convince him, she treads closer until, she's right there in front of him, caressing his face and teasing a kiss.

When he says "But only if you answer answer a question or two." Penelope perks up eagerly ("of course"), because finally we're getting somewhere.

Then Ody asks his questions, dramatically reenacting the ordeal and making giant hand gestures. (Bonus: Penelope's "oh, no" isn't sarcastic, but that concerned, but I know this is fake acting.) Penelope talks about Scylla with this super bright, goofy expression that causes dissonance.

Then "Now jump in the water!", she flops back and splashes. Back to the back and forth.

"You should come up onto the ship, we'll jump at the same time!" But there's no ship around? It's just beach?

"The things I do for you." Ody shakes his head in disbelief and it looks like he's about to jump in the water. We cut to Penelope's eager expression, which turns into horror and pain. The background changes to a dark red/maroon to signal that the illusion is broken.

We pan to Odysseus standing high above on a ship, with a bow pointing at the siren. Both the audience and the siren were too caught up in the illusion that was created to notice that Ody wasn't under the spell.

I love Epic the Musical so much it has been the only thing I have listened to since like September, so I had to draw something from it.

Ever since I read The Odyssey in high school I thought Scylla was pretty cool, and her song in Epic is one of my favs in the whole musical and I love seeing everyone's different designs for her so I gave it a shot, specifically I wanted to try to design her 6 heads.

In the original myth she's described as having dogs coming out of her body, so I made the heads like wolves. I also wanted to add characteristics of like deep sea predators, or just ocean predators in general. So I gave them serrated teeth that are good for catching fish, gill-like things attached to their ears, since gills would be more useful than ears for an oceanic predator, and the lure that anglerfish have. I also gave them 2 sets of eyes, the top 2 are for above water hunting that can see well in daylight and the bottom are used for deeper water hunting that can see really well in darkness.

Also there's a drawing of an idea where they have a smaller mouth come out of their mouth like the xenomorph in Alien
