Top ten shark facts? 🦈

I mean I don't rly rank shark facts, so heres just ten random ones:

1. Lemon sharks have a buddy system, where they will stick to another shark for higher chances of survival. They swim so closely to each other sometimes, that it looks as if they're holding hands...or rather fins.

2. Great white sharks can change the color of their upper body half to better match the surrounding water aka they're capable of camouflaging themselves!

3. Hammerheads are amazing at finding prey, due to the hammer having a bigger amount of ampullae of lorenzini (tiny organs that can detect electromagnetic fields). They swerve their hammer left and right to scan the area and can detect stuff like stingrays even when they are buried in the sand.

4. The waters around Australia have the biggest variety in shark species! If you want to encounter loads of different ones, thats the place to go! Theres said to be over 150 species there!

5. Sharks have the ability to remember and recognize humans. They respond positively cuddly to divers that have helped them before and Cristina Zenato (the women thats known for removing hooks from sharks) has described experiences where the shark will lie in her lap and let her remove the hook peacefully, because it knows she will help. This speaks a lot for their intelligence.

6. There are shark species that are capable of biofluorescence (absorbing & the reemitting light) and bioluminescense (producing the light themselves). An example for the first one would be shy swell sharks and an example for the latter are kitefin sharks.

7. Tiger sharks are known as the garbage cans of the ocean, because they are capable of eating absolutely everything. Not only do they have super strong jaws & teeth, but their stomachs are actually highly acidic and have barely any problems breaking down the weirdest things.

8. The dark shyshark gets the second half of its name due to its reaction when threatend. It actually curls up and puts its tail over its eyes!

9. The cookiecutter shark actually cuts cookie shaped holes into its prey and usually does that while the prey is still moving, kinda like a snack to go. They also are known for biting into submarines.

10. The hierarchy between different shark species in an area is not always just determined by size or strength. The amount of time the shark has spend there and how familiar it is with the environment, plays a role as well! Some researchers observed a big shark making place for the smaller ones, because it was still new to the area.

Little Owl, Big World

Kikoru: Sooooo, what pokemon is gonna hatch from this egg?

It was that oh so special time of waiting for a pokemon egg to hatch this time with Kikoru joining in on the wait.

Trainer: Well this egg is gonna hatch into a Rowlet, though I only know this due too recieving it as a gift form Professor Kukui.

Reno: A Rowlet? What does the pokemon look like?

Kafka: Don't ruin the surprise Reno, where gonna be finding out in a bit anyway.

Trainer: Ya, you will see with your own two eyes in a bit.

Kikoru: I still feel like this is all a dream, Kafka being a kaiju, a fairytale like world existing, and all these amazing creatures, it's quite exiciting.

The trio nodded in agreement at those words and before any more words could be exchanged a cracking sound got all there attention. Soon the room began to be flooded in a brilliant light and when the light died down, a little owl white and tan owls met there eyes.

After a squeal from Kikoru, who afterwards threatend to break Kafka's and Reno's kneecaps if they told anyone, everyone began to gush over the cute little grass owl.

Reno: So this is Rowlet huh, I gotta say these pokemon countinue to surprise me.

Kafka: Aw what a little fella, oh Rotomdex you have any information on Rowlet you could tell us.

Rotomdex immediately perking up, began to pull up the data files on Rowlet.

Rotomdex: Of courzzzzze, there's no pokemon I don't got info on, Bzzzzttt!!! - Rowlet: The Grass Quill Pokemon: A Grass-Flying type, Rowlets like to sleep during the day and soak up the sun using photosynthesis. At night is when a Rowlet is at there most active and they usually like spending this time honing there feather shooting skills, as there feathers are sharp and combined with there strong legs which lets there kick be strong they a quite strong. Though despite all that they are very docile and like to to lounge the day away, and many Rowlet like to sleep inside there Trainer's coat pocket or backpack. A very friendly yet lazy pokemon, Bzzzzttt!!!

Kikoru: Wow they sound pretty strong for such a tiny ball of feathers, and very lazy pokemon.

Trainer: Ya, but that's just part of the species charm and *looks over Melmetal who was currently eating there lunch* it seems that Rowlet already found a place they like to nap.

Everyone looked over and immediately squealed and started taking pictures, as Rowlet had taken to roosting withing the hex nut in Melmetal's abdomen.

Why I do see Kikoru carrying around a special bag for Rowlet to sleep in? The Grass/Flying type definitely rubbed off on her within seconds. Also Rowlet just sleeping on top of Kafka's shoulders and later Soshiro's head. Lol

A photo I took of a Bachman’s sparrow through my binoculars, that my coworker and I spotted at Seminole State Park, GA. This near threatend and declining species relies on grasslands. It's presence in this park is due to prescribed burning, implemented by Georgia DNR, that maintains these open pine savanna grasslands.

Side Story Monster classifications

A camera jostled a bit showing a lab like place nostly colored in purple with someone sitting in a chair infront of it. They looked like a humanoid mizusune almost save for the shell and the amount of fingers...and the snoot. Heterocromatic red and blue eyes lighting up. Next to him was an actual violet Mizustune a rare creature inded.

"Greetings everyone who is watching this. I am Donatello Hamato, a hybrid mutant of human turtle and Mizustune, both normal and Soulseer, dont ask me how Im part Soulseer when I am clearly too young its a headache to think about it." Fonatello then coughed. "Anyways I am a profesional Monster Rider and this is my partner Nohgaku! Yes he is a violet Mizustune for though who know their monster species for those who dont we will get to his and I species at a later time." Nohgaku made the mizustune equivalent of a pouty face and shoved it in donnies. Causing his rider to sputter for a moment before the scene cut away.

"Athm as I was saying! Today we will be going over some of the basics of knowing thr monsters from my mothers world." Donnie continued as if he hadnt clearly been dealing with a stubborn practically superpowered pet. "Namely the classifications. Now these classifications are important from what family they are in or if they are a common or other kind of species!"

He pulled up a hologram of a saropod looking creature that was mostly gray with dark brown gray markings. "To start we will talk about the herbivore class. These monsters are often the least threatening monsters a hunter or rider will encounter especally our ecample the large but mostly peaceful and passive apinoth! However thats not to say all hetbivores are as peaceful or passive, several will attack if they feel they are threatend" he switched it to a mostly red monster that looked like an anky almost. "For example apceros here will try and smack around most people who threaten them with their tails"

He turned off the hologram "both those were examples of 'small' monsters, really their more medium than small, but thr largest herbivore classified monster is the larinoth and...they arent dangorus despite their size their more likely to run if attacked over fight" he did show an image of a larinoth which looked like a bracyosaurus but with several off details and green and yellow. "Now I will go more indepth of these monsters at a latet date just know herbivores are mostly monsters that are mostly harmless to hunters and riders as of this recording"

"The next classification of monsters we will cover is the fanged beast" Donnie was grinning widely. "Now this classification of monsters has a wide variaty from the small and agressive bullfango" he showed an image of a boar like creature "to the ever impressive lady of the icelands herself the Gammoth" he then showed an image of a mamoth like creature with red and blue fur and a bony plate on her head. "Strangly several fange beast do have similarities to primates and monkeys but more and more are being discovered that arent."

"Fanged Beast are by far more threatening than herbivores though how much more depends on the monster. Bullfango are mostly dangorus ig youre already doing something and are unaware of your seroundings...or are just bad at dodging things coming at a you in a straight line...while the Gammoth is one of the, though not the strongest, fanged beast by her sgeere strength and ability to use her enviorment to her advantage, having a large glob of snow and ice thrown at you that can hinder your moments even after words is not fun let me tell you" he coughed a bit after Nohgaku brushed the end of his tail on his face.

"Right right next on our list is the levithan class monsters, mostly because someone is impatient!" Donnie gave the stink eye to the practically cheeky looking monster. "So to clarify some things the Mizustune and thus Violet Mizustune are levithans. We are an intesting set of monsters usually known by our quadrapedal yet long and almost slender bodies, almsot because you have levithans like this" he showed the image of a large green reptilain creature with a gaint spongy yelloe maneit was clearly less elegant looking than Nohgaku but still held similar traits. "Then theres the two oddballs which are the Gobule and Niblesnarf both of which are...part of the levithan class despite looking like they should be in a diffrent classification." He shwoed two monsters one of which looked like an amlagimation of diffrent ocean life and one looking...uhh vaugly like some sort of reptile frog nose thing with a tail. "Most levithans can be found near or even in water with the exception of a few here and there" he looked at the image of the niblesnarf muttering what sounded like 'how does a levithan class monster live in the desert of all places?' If you could hear it at all. "Athm yes both my partner and I, at leadt for my monster species wise, are part of this neat little class of monsters!"

"The next class we will talk about is the bird wyverns!" Donnie pulled up an image of...a kinda derpy looking bird dragon thing that was pink and had ears. "From the simple...but odd yian-kut-ku" he switched it to an owl looking creature "to the beautiful and deadly malfestio! This classification of monsters actuallg has a few...unoffical classifications within it dince tgey are one of the most nemorus monster types out there. But that just shows how varried they are"

"To start with the unoffical classiffcations the theropod verses the flying." Donnie stated showing the picture of a blue raptor like monster with stripes along its body abd a red crest. "Most the more theropod ones lack wings or any feather looking parts usually though a few do have some feathers. Naturally the lack of wings means these bird wyverns cant fly...however it is know that most but not all of these ones are pack animals ones that have large monster leaders...where theirs a pack they is usually a leader sans some very rare occasons"

"Naturally the flying ones have wings and can fly...not that all of them are good at it they can still do it" he showed a recording of a yian-kut-ku flying for a bit before crashing. "Still this is one of the classes that are harder to gauge how dangorus it is because several new hunters or riders will be sent out to hunt certain bird wyverns...but some bird wyverns are so dangrous they do not want any new hunters going after less they be coming home with missing limbs or worse."

"Next is of course the flying wyverns!" Donnie showed an image of a pair wyvern with orange coloring for one and green for the other. "This classification is another with unoffical classifications in it but its also one of the most well known due to having the monster given the titles of "king of the sky" and "queen of the earth" the Rathalos and Rathian repsectivly...which are actually the same species but to keep on topic!"

"The two unoffical classifications are true wyverns and quadrapedal wyverns. True wyverns are well flying wyverns that can actually fly for long periods of time and distances and are often seen actually hunting from the sky or nesting in high up places." He switched the image to what looked like a wyvern cat creature with blades on parts of its wings "While quadrapedal ones well a lot of their wings seem to be used for diffrent functions most can still at least glide or fly for short distances...though a few exceptions that I think should be reclassified due to how far their wings have devolved doe exsist that said while most of the flying wyvern class are carnivorus thats not true for all of them like all monsters sans the obvious herbivors they have a variary of diets among them...though quite a few still are carnivores and da- extreamly good hunters."

"Now these next two classifications I simply want to get out of the way for my sake just as much as certain people watching might: the bug monsters." Donnie shivered "theres two classifications of them seperating the insects from the arachnids. The insects are the Neopterons and the archacnids are the Temocerans. They have one thing in common generally they are the size of small cats or small dogs or bigger!" He did not show images for this likely for comforts sake. "Intrestingly the Neopterons are at least for the smaller of the species prey for certain monsters, an example is the rollypoly like Konchu being the favored food of the Yian-kut-ku." He hummed "Temocerains are the ones to wotry more about theire are fewer of them, their being only 5 or six? Confirmed species so far...and at least one or two of those comermations are the babies or males, i really need to refresh my knolwdge on that, of the species the Neopterans have larger numbers but theres few that are as big as a threat to the arachnid Temocerans...not that their arent any that dangorus there are still ones that are and my brothers will get to handle them because fuck getting near anything bigger than a terrier-"

"You cant avoid them forever donnie" Raphs voice came over before there was another cut.

"Athm that brief bit of unprofesonalisim else wise they still are a facinating and for at least one varried group of creatures!" Donnie continued "if you like insects 9r arachnids your going to love going over the indvidual species!"

"The next class of monsters...many hunters dont have fond things to say about admidedly." Donnie sighed "the piscine wyverns which are...typically giant fish with legs...yes that is something I just said gaint. Fish.with.legs. and theres not a lot of variaty for them theres at least 6 main species, the majority of this classifications is subspecies- we havent gone over that yet focus donnie" he slapped his cheeks a bit showing one of these fish with legs specifically one that looked like a brown fish with not a lot of color or flare to it. "This is one of the most basic ones and...they can live in a variaty of areas but a lot of them are still seen in mostly watery areas...this does not mean they all are theres a well know at least 2 of the species that live in the desert one in an active volcano one in snow...so yes biome wise you could possibly run into these just about anywhere its baffling in a scintific sense since again they are gaint.fish.with.legs."

Rubbing his snoots bridge to his face he sighed. "The scintific nightmare that is the piscine wyverns asside. We move on to the carapaceons! They are tyoically crustations...or for some reason scorpions deapite the fact the latter really should be reclasssified as Temocerans, theres a few monsters liek that I must admit theres someone out there being lazy in the classifications department." He coughed a bit. "Anyways many of them have extreamly hard carapaces some of them are extreamly large and much like hermit crabs have a 'travling home' however many carapacians who have this travling home use the skulls of other large monsters which makes them more dangorus because they could be burried and only the skull showing which means the monster it belongs to is dead correct? Suddenly a diffrent monster rises and catches you off gard I would gladly share an image but unfortunatly I was not sure which carapcian to share with you all as an example so I suppose they will have to wait until we simply get to them individually annoyed sigh"

"The next class of monsters does not have many members to it. 3 main species, not counting the young version of one of the species. Theres a few other kinds of species to it that I havent gone over with you all yet but of those theres 3 of those. And if we do count the young version of one of them that brings it up to a total of 7 members to this classification of monsters. Many of this monster classification have the traits of frogs and toads though some simply share specific traits with other members of this classifications." He showed an image of a gaint orange and blue frog with large lower curving upwards tusk on its lower jaw. "Im hoping in times after this recoeding more are descovered so we can expand our knolwdge on this classification!"

"Next we have the brute wyverns! These are completly flightless creatures that all share a physical similarity to t rexes and other such large prehistoric carnivores with similar body shapes!" Donnie wiggled a bit in his seat. Showing the image of a pink t rex looking creature with fur and quills along its back and tail "yet they are some of the most versitile powered and abilitied creatures out there from this anjanath that Im showing you to one known as the glavinus and I was sadly unable to get an image of a glavinus just yet but to desctibe it carnotorus with a sword tail that can be lit on fire." He was waving his hands a lot. "I am not a sword user but this is one of those cases where I agree with leo on that being fu- very cool!" He coughed a bit. "However much like the dinosaurs they resemble most of them are canrivores with a few exceptions unless Im wrong on that my last outing trying to observe an urgaan ended up with a cuncussion and leo shaking me for a good minute after I recovered. I...really want to get to those videos where I explain the monster but this is nessisary information!"

"The next classification is the fanged wyverns!" Donnie showed an image of a wolf like creature that had fur and scales the scales being a blue/green color with yellow accsents and the fur being an almost whitish color. "Intrestingly this classification has similarities to our fanged beast but with clear indication they are not due to either scales or other such indicators. Most fanged wyverns are carnivors if any arent at all...another thing is they all usually run on all fours like a canine, which for some of them is strange due to the fact they are not all caninie based. Thankfully they dont all do this or if they do its not constant."

"The next 3 classifications are mostly easy to describe. Lynians which are small anthropermorphic creatures that while not all of them do this some of them have intergated into human society some even assising hunters or riders. A notable thing about them is a good chunk of lynian species are some variation of anthropermorphic cats." Behind him said small anthropermorphic cat creature who looked basically like a cream colored tabby popped up behind him with an annoyed look and a tray of food tapping her foot. "This is my mothers Lynian partner her Felyne" he had the word popped up as its spelled "mochi-...its lunch time isnt it?"

"Yes and you didnt come to get your food so I came and got if fur you" she stated setting the food down.

Another cut and Donnie was coughing an empty food tray just off to the side. "Anyways as you could see it most lynians are capable of learning how to speak like humans...though some are very fond of puns." Donnie finished explaining the lynians. "Then theres fish...their well fish. Theres only one fish classified monster you have to worry about fighting is the Gajau and even then their one of the less dangorus monsters if they arent under attack other wise...the fish arent a threat to hunters and are typically actually very helpful to them...also their tasty some species are just as youd find them on earth others are like the burst arrowana and have some special property to them." He actually opened a curtain to show a fishtank with a bunch of unusual fish at least one of which scales looked like it was made of gold.

"The last of these three less than harmful monsters is the wingdrakes. Wingdrakes are small wyverns that act a bit like birds. They are often used in places called atera and seliana to travle from place to place for a short period of time." He showed an image of one that almost looked like a small pterodactyle.

Donnie closed his eyes and took a deep breath" ...this last classification of monsters is not one to take lightly as even the youngest and weakest of this classification is still as dangorus as some adults of other species. Monsters not conforming to nature itself because they are nature itself. Walking natural disaster walking clamaities. The elder dragons." His tone was deadly serious. "Not all elder dragons look like what you might think dragons should look like and not all of them are activly seeking to cause problems. Unfortunatly for these ones even their meer movments could cause problems." When mentioning that not all elder dragons looked like dragons he showed an image of what looked to be a unicorn with scales instead of a coat of fur blue with darker blue stripes a pale blue almost white mane and tail and percing eyes. Though he did show something that looked closer to an dragon youd imagine. "Hunters and Riders are typically advised to not engage with one of these creatures if they can help it. Esepcally not the worst of the worst the black dragons the ones who if they chose to could slaughter us all and leave nothing behind. There is hardly any comformity to elder dragons asside from their calamity level of power, intellegence, and sheer presnce. Their aperances their kinds of powers. Their inteelgence is usually considered to be near at or above human intellgence" He had to stop to take a breath. "Most of them I will not immidatly cover. However..." he instead got annoyed. "Who ever mutated us decided to make mikey part elder dragon... one who gets extreamly irritable during their scales shedding times!" He did cough. "Do mind what I said applies to the elder dragons who arent mutants as really theres now way for me to willingly avoid my younger brother to my knowldge."

"Now that weve gotten that all done! Now for the other classifications! These are simply to denote certain things about the indivudal species within the more rounded classfications while being simple in themselves...if not offical in some places. Common species, sub species, vatiant species, Deviant species, and rare species."

"Common species are just that the common versions of the monsters youll see. Sub species are rarer versions of the monster with some sort of very obvious visual diffrence and some phsycial diffrences in their biology. It should be noted some sub species were theorized to orginally be the common species untill the common species came about to some sort of advantage or mutation that caused their servival rates to become better than the original." Donnie hummed "next are variant and deviant. Variant species are ones who at first dont seem to have much diffrence with their original species but due to something happening have warrented a specail note about them in particular theres always some minor or major visual diffrence between a variant and the original...some variant should be noted to just be the species in heat and why black diablos, well get to her later, should be classified as one! The laziness of the person or people incharge of the classifications I swear!" He coughed a bit to get himself back on track. "Diviants are similar to variants but they tend to look diffrent than their originals and have servives harsher things in their lives and have difffent ways of fighting...soulseer mizustune are one of these and as far as Ive been informed genetically these deviants are the same as their original common species counterparts-, later Donnie later." He took a deep breath to clam himself for the very clear rant he was about to do. "Now rare species are simply extreamly rare subsepecies of monsters. Nohgaku is one of these being a violet mizusune. I have been told there are other kinds of species but I would have to do research to tell you the exact details of these as its not all common knowldge." Donnie happily folded his hands together" thank you for litsening in I apolgoize for not being profesional in parts but I hope this was atleast infomative to you!" He started finishing up untill noticing Nohgaku looking at the fish tank looking ready to jump. "Nohgaku no-"

Donnie looked absolutly sheepish "the sanke wyberns are well monsters who over all have snake like features though are not nessisarly purely snake theres a large species of monster its sub species and a small species of monster in this classification...intrestingly the small species was once classified as I belive a flying wyvern at first but I could be wrong on that please ask your local guild researcher what the original classification was their likely a wyverian whos been around since before your parents were born."

Im hoping to teach people a bit about mh stuff that will be important to my crossover while also giving lore and such on the boys in a style that I think fits with the boys...and also because I wanted to write donnie and his brothers trying to do a serious thing while not being able to be fully serious.

Jeremy remained largely unaffected by Mim's swearing and cursing as he tried to concentrate on his own half of the screen, tussling with what seemed to be a giant dinosaur thing with a scowl as he wrestled around the next corner, and caught sight of Mim up ahead, spinning around.

"Now now, don't think you're allowed to threatend an endangered species with that-" he teased, as she got going again around the time he managed to catch up.

"So what do you do if you manage to get one of those magic mystery prizes again?" He asked, innocently, as he skidded roughly around another bend (but this time at least half on the track, he was getting the hang of it).

Update on my doll concept. I added more colors. Their name will either be Calanthe or HoneyDew. Im not 100% sure on the hair color yet, for now its decent.

Im in class with nothing to fo so im making very bad doodles. Hes one of Calanthe/HoneyDew togeter with Cecillia.

And some more info on the dragon bb.

They act more feral since they like to live alone in the forrest. Ofc they go to the market from time to time (the market is a safe space for any species, you can buy almost everything there. It happens once a week unlesd its a special ocasion then it might be open for multiple days). They have to pass this abandond... garden house? To get to the market. "Fairys" take care of the garden wich looks very magical, yet the building is a mess. The "fairys" somehow whete able to kerp the dragon out. One day they notice somebody came to live there. Cecillia (i wont get into how she came to live there here as its a whole othet story) now takes care of the flora aswel. Dragon bb finds her to be very intresting. They eventually work up the courage to talk to her. Cecillia is a sweetheart and dragon bb imidietly fell in love. They gave her somzthing shiny everytime they saw her.

The "fairys" dont like dragon bb since they want to eat them. In group they can couse mischief, alone they are no threat. They are based off of plants and insects if threatend can turn into them to hide. They comunicate with a soft bell-like noise.

Dragon bb is ofc... a dragon hybride. Still devating wether i should give them wings or not. Their family is actually quite close and live in a town far away. They ran away as they where the midle child and felt like they had no purpose. They had loving parents but needed change. They where very young when they left but has written letters to their parents. Dragon bb takes care of pests and hunt wich they trade for money, food or esentials.

For a long time they thought they where better off alone but eventually started to warm up to dome of the other crezatures in the forrest. A friendly elder dwarf with a giant library is happy to invite them over for a cup of tea. Dragon baby loves reading and goes daily to the dwarf. They now do erands for the dwarf.

I love talking about my ocs and feel as this is a great space to write about them.

owls are associated with darkness, which includes magic, mystery, and ancient knowledge as well as the moon

here pictured is an eurasian eagle owl, which represents wisdom and knowledge and the species is threatend with extinction

dogs are often depicted to symbolize guidance, protection, loyalty, fidelity, faithfulness, watchfulness, and love

though,here seen could be a wolf or a wolf dog too

wolves are a symbol of guardianship, ritual, loyalty, and spirit and have the ability to make quick and firm emotional attachments, and need to trust their own instincts

frogs are associtated with youth, cleansing of a toxic enviroment, love for others and yourself and they are often drawn with people who need to release the negative emotions theyve been holding or who need to take better care of themselves

Oceans

What are your primary concerns about the oceans ?

My primary concern about the ocean is increase in ocean temperature due to greenhouse gases and warming the atmosphere because ice is melting due to warmer water temperatures, I fear we will eventually lose very unique climates like the ones up north that sustain life for may species,we will start to have coastal regions that are being threatend by risking sea levels.

What, if anything ,do you plan to do about it ?

I plan on supporting green comapnies,Recycling more, carpooling more as well as walking and taking the bus when i can to lower my carbon footprint and i will also try to share knowledge on how others can cit down their carbon footprint to allow less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Character Analysis: Allura

[ Shiro ] [ Lance ] [ Hunk ] [ Pidge ] [ Keith ] [ Coran ]

Since we went a little out of this world with Keith, it’s only fitting that our next contender is when things really go to space, Allura, princess of Altea (and Lion Goddess, at least according to the Arusians. 

Since Allura is from a different planet entirely, and one whose culture we do not have anything approaching a comprehensive study of, there are a lot of influences on her history that we don’t know for sure.

That said, it would seem that Allura is an only child. Her recollections feature her father heavily, suggesting he was an incredibly close personal presence in her life- but at the same time, barely a whisper is given of Allura’s mother, suggesting that it’s very possible that Allura and the queen of Altea were simply not that close.

Allura comments that the gladiator robot has settings appropriate for a child. This tells us that, very likely, Allura has had combat training since childhood, and considers this a very normal way to do business.

That the language program on the ship is also something that demands physically of its students would suggest that at least in high society for the Alteans, athleticism and martial prowess were considered important things to cultivate.

It’s also worth mentioning that as an only child, Allura is the crown princess of Altea, and considering Alfor’s passing, has every right to succeed him as queen at this point. Though, considering her entire civilization and species outside of a few scattered individuals seem to be long gone, it makes sense she’s holding off on her coronation a bit.

The Weight of the Crown

Much like Shiro and Pidge, Allura has lived her life from a very young age with high expectations. Quite literally- with the exception of her as seemingly a near-infant, we see young Allura with braids in her hair and a circlet on her head, all the time. While this sets her as a contrast to Alfor, whose clothes tend towards the modest and practical and who wears his hair in a simple ponytail most of the time- we also see Allura’s memories overwhelmingly showing grass, flowers, and open meadows.

It suggests that despite her formal trappings, suitable of a princess, young Allura was the type to run and play outside, not sit demurely at attention. Quite possibly, she was more than a little rough-and-tumble at that age considering we also see memories of her getting scraped up and seeking comfort from Alfor.

This athleticism and drive is a major thing that sticks with Allura- the weapon she wields, a staff, relies on movement and the strength of her arm. As someone who’s used a staff myself, using quick snappy movements with one will often result in bruising yourself- since bringing one end of it through a target often means bringing the other end just as quickly in to rest against your body. It’s also the Gladiator’s weapon of choice, suggesting it may be a traditional Altean weapon.

Allura is a very high energy person, and when this doesn’t have an outlet, she’s inclined to restlessness. When she didn’t come along with the rest of the team during Space Mall, she suggested that she’d immediately fall to worrying the entire time until the mice distracted her.

At the same time, Allura is not merely the princess of an entire planet- she’s the daughter of Alfor, who was one of the first paladins and the creator of Voltron, as well as someone who fought alongside his fellow paladins in some kind of impressive conflict. Basically, Allura is the daughter of a legend and a hero, someone who would be very widely renown. Expectations for Allura would be very high indeed.

Like Shiro, we see that Allura carries herself with a determination to put her best foot forwards- to live up to these high expectations. Vulnerability and weakness is something expressed cautiously, and in Allura’s case, often done behind people’s backs, or re-routed to other people that she feels closer with.

Vulnerability

Allura as crown princess, as a driven, competitive, sporty person who has lived her life under the expectation of greatness- contrasts highly with Allura as someone dealing with a life that has come apart at the seams in every conceivable way. The war between Altea and the Galra wasn’t merely a conflict that ripped Altea to pieces- it was a falling out of the highest order between species that had been, not exaggerating, practically the best of bosom buddies.

We’ve considered that Zarkon was the Black Paladin, but, look at the implications here. Alfor may not have had too much of a say in the matter considering Black may have already chose Zarkon, but when creating absurdly strong weapons, better than anything the galaxy had ever seen before- Alfor personally gave Zarkon the best and brightest, the flagship of Voltron. We see galra and alteans thronging together on the galra home planet.

Allura grew up, quite likely, in a time of stability and peace brought on by the original paladins’ heroism. By Voltron. And that stability rapidly crumbled with Zarkon turning against Altea itself. 

While Allura’s loss technically happened ten thousand years ago- that time was a literal eyeblink to her. Much like Shiro, Allura comes from her loss very fresh, with no time to process, and only even realizes the extent of it after waking up. And then, of course, she’s immediately accosted by an agent of Zarkon coming after Voltron and the castle. 

She’s heartbroken. And she’s terrified. And neither of those have any easy outlets because the expectation has always been that she is the dignified and capable princess.

I’ve mentioned on my Hunk analysis and in other posts that I think it’s basically inarguable that Alfor was the prior Yellow Paladin- someone whose virtues are support, protecting and nurturing the team. I think, then, it’s very noteworthy that the main thing Alfor’s AI offers Allura is a flower field like the ones she seems to have spent most of her childhood in- an opportunity to engage in softness. To let down her high expectations and the ever-pressing needs of the war she finds herself thrown into and just take care of Allura for a while.

Because as athletic and competitive as Allura is, a lot of her restless energy seems based in a case of anxiety.

Now, Allura loses Alfor’s AI. Rather- the unyielding expectations of her position and the reality of her situation force her to give up even that comfort. But, something very heartening in season 2 is that we see Allura is starting to gain other potential avenues to soften.

She’s able to be honest with Shiro that she can’t sleep because she’s worried about Zarkon hunting them down- and be reassured that even if that is the case, she still needs to take time for herself. And in Space Mall, she isn’t left alone to worry the entire time- the mice are diligent at staying with her, accompanying and talking to her.

This is very significant, because Allura’s main line of defense against anyone she doesn’t trust or views as an enemy is that she refuses to let them see her flinch. When brought in handcuffs before Zarkon, her response is to try and attack him. If Allura feels threatend by someone, she turns a defensive cold front over her much more vulnerable self- she won’t give them the satisfaction of knowing they’ve made her bleed. 

A Fear of Betrayal

There’s a lot of discussion of how Allura responded to the revelation of Keith’s heritage. Something I think has gone overlooked, but is very noteworthy- is that Allura, while cautious, is willing to trust Kolivan and Antok. She’s willing to see off the entire rest of the team, including Coran- leaving herself in what she points out to Coran is an intensely vulnerable situation with two armed and armored galra warriors at her back.

Simply- that is not the behavior of someone who does not at least consider them allies. And it’s a far cry from, as I mentioned, her defensive front, which we see in full swing towards Ulaz.

So why does she respond to Keith as strongly as she does? Ironically, it’s because of her trust in Keith.

We see that at a particularly vulnerable point, Allura tries to leave the team to make sure she’s not holding them back- and Keith accompanies her at that time, being able to relate to her insecurities. They’re able to be very open with each other, and Allura implicitly puts her safety in Keith’s hands.

Then it feels like Keith was hiding something from her. He had that weapon, the entire time, and didn’t bring it up to the team- and smuggled it onto a base looking for answers.

Just like Keith uniquely exploded at Pidge for leaving the team- Allura is uniquely mortified at the implication that the faith she put in Keith didn’t go both ways. Sure- Keith has an immaculate record of being trustworthy, sure he was chosen by a Lion, sure, he’s saved her life- but all of those things could very well apply to Allura’s history with Zarkon.

People have accused Allura’s resolution with Keith as being very abrupt, and I would agree with that quite a bit. After all, what’s happening isn’t that Allura has been able to seriously process the entire war and loss of Altea- that’s a herculean task to undertake in any kind of timely manner. But her fear of potentially being betrayed was supplanted by a deeper fear- of losing Keith. Because as much as the others, I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that Allura does see the paladins as a family in some regards. So she went from the nightmare scenario of potentially letting another Zarkon into her life to the nightmare scenario of losing someone the way she had to destroy the last memory of her father.

Softness and social neediness

Developmentally, I would place Allura at a similar age to Shiro, older than the rest of the paladins. Official statements have identified her as “a teenager”, and my compromise has been to place her at age nineteen or an analogy thereof- but, much like Shiro, Allura’s consciousness of the leadership role she holds, and the high expectations placed on her often belie how Allura is really not a seasoned middle-aged soldier.

In some senses, Allura is used to being acknowledged and heard. As a leader of the team she voices her opinions quickly and clearly, and when she makes decisions for her own behalf, she makes it clear they are not negotiable (“Excuse me? I do not need your permission.”)

In others, Allura is actually inclined to downplay herself a bit. She’s aghast more than anything else at the Arusians treating her as some kind of higher being- despite the potent role Voltron stands to play in diplomacy, she’s adamant that Voltron should be here to help, not here as a motion of the grandness and strength of her team.

It’s also very likely, as the princess of a diplomatic race, Allura is used to new places and people- she’s not the biggest fan of being alone, and early on in her interactions with the team, she leaps at the opportunity to connect closer with Pidge. Especially with how much she’s lost- entirely outside of the trauma of it, she feels very alone with just her and Coran and the mice, and I fully expect to see her flourishing more now that Voltron is starting to gain solid, consistent allies. In particular Allura is quick to connect with people if she feels like there’s some kind of similarity to perspective- she takes to the mice rapidly because they’re wayward survivors of Altea, upon learning she and Pidge had something in common her response was to try and use it to strike a conversation, and, as mentioned- her closeness to Keith seems to have been brought on partially by time they spent together with very similar concerns.

(She also opens up quite a bit to Shiro, the other leader and the other traumatized high-stress prodigy on the team)

While we also see that Allura rolls her eyes at Lance’s antics sometimes, she doesn’t exactly hate him since she does pick up very enthusiastically at the prospect of “...but I’d love something sparkly.”

As much as Allura feels the need to present herself as an unconquerable bastion of a leader- she deeply enjoys being pampered a little, and there’s a bit of conflict in her as a character that her pride and the desire to seem strong in the face of adversity can make it difficult for her to really ask for that.

Messianic

A certain part of Allura has reached a point of determination. She’s able to personally understand so much of what’s overtaken the universe- loss of security, of home, isolation and fear and feeling trapped- and she’s come out of it with the determination this can’t go on any longer. While both she and Shrio repeat the idea that Voltron is the universe’s only hope- I think that in some ways Allura embodies that sense of being a guiding light to the universe.

Allura is driven by a motivation to heal, both within herself, and outside with the universe. She’s personally marked by the same loss that the larger universe has felt- and again, she connects easily over similarities. This lets her generalize quite a bit, such as to her relationship with the Balmerans.

I think there’s something very significant to the fact that while Allura is not a paladin, she’s associated closely with the Castle- which contains, transports, and protects the Lions. It’s the aerie that they return to, and where all the paladins live.

Several times, we see Allura tap into some kind of force beyond her own understanding- and these empowered moments connect closely to when she’s at her strongest. Much as Shiro is thematically matched against Zarkon, Allura is thematically matched against Haggar- Haggar, who is able to siphon the life out of entire planets and who is heavily associated with a kind of seething magical darkness.

In contrast- Allura, with her white suit, predominantly white dress, and giant white castle, appears to be associated powerfully with light. Her grand moments of power both feature her becoming a shining beacon. This continuity in particular has given her the longest hair, and is the first to make it not blonde but a beautiful silver color.

This suggests that Allura’s associated element may well be light itself- a potent symbol since quintessence and magic in this setting overwhelmingly manifest as colored light. We also see that Allura’s able to inspire hope in others (her speech to the Balmerans) and illuminate situations (see through Haggar’s illusions).

In Summary

Allura is both powerful, and precious. Much like Shiro, she balances a similar divide of a very vulnerable person, while also someone born under high expectations and with an incredible strength of will. Sporty, driven, competitive, but also sociable, and both struggling to move beyond the massive loss she’s felt while using that loss to motivate her towards a higher sense of purpose.

Personality: While chipper and a bit of a joker to Elma, Lin and a few other Blade’s, she’s not very fond of her fellow NLA-ers. It takes a while for her to open up to others but when she does, she will never let them go and values her friends’s lives above her own. After chapter five’s arm “incident” she withdraws back to her cold and distant personality for a bit. being a mim and not knowing who she was on earth before that send her into a dark place. If it wasn’t for Lin, she probably would have ended up like Lao. which is the main reason she sided with Lin in Chapter Eleven, even though she agreed with everything Elma stood for. She’s a very good at smooth talking, and due to that got most other Alien species to live in NLA. Her manipulating skills have been said to rival Nagi’s, which is why a chess game between them is always good entertainment (and a good gamble) in the Blade Barracks. Make no mistake, beneath this sweet face sleeps the devil. be sure to get on her good side and you’ll have a great partner for life.

Earth Siobhan: While she never remembers her full life on Earth, she does sometimes get brief glimpses of her previous life. She remembers often that she threatend and hurt people, in the beginning she seemed to just be a bad person in general. later on they get more clear and it seems people hired her in some way to protect them. in short: she fucked a lot of bad people over, and got paid good money for it too. Wether she was an assasin, military, private detective or whatever, she never does find out. but she went through great lengths to get to her target. it seems her manipulative skills passed on to her mim. perhaps that got her a spot on the white whale.....or perhaps she blackmailed somebody to get on it. this is the main reason she doesn’t join the interceptors or harriers, her brief memories didn’t seem pleasant and she was determined to start anew on planet mira. Trivia, Fun facts & Extra’s:

Her most common team besides Lin and Elma are: Yelv, H.B & Phog. She calls them her “therapy class” ( H.B & Phog can teach Yelv to be calm and more displined, Yelv & H.B teach Phog to “loosen up” and be more serious and confident. Phog & Yelv teach H.B to not be such a stick in the mud.)

She has seriously concidered adopting Lin, after Lin called her “mom”.

her sexuality is a mystery to everyone, she seems most interested in Phog because he is pure and kind, everything she always wishing she could be, but she tends to be a bit too “close” to her female Blade’s as well.

Blog no.4 (Homework) The Diminishment of Excitement

Have you ever been to zoos and marine life zoos as a kid? Did you revisit them when you were older?  I was lucky enought to meet someone special to me, on the weekend, with whom we’ve known each other for a very long time, but couldn’t manage to get together till now. We met in the capital as it is kind of half way between the two of us, and as the weather was terrible, we agreed to visit the Tropicarium. It is a marine zoo with sharks, stingrays and plenty of other fishes around. When I was a kid I was there, like ten years ago and as the majority of little kids I was fascinated by the fishes, big or small. Of course the main point and my favourtes were the sharks. We were there for at least two and a half or three hours, wandering and questioning everything. Guess it was because my and my younger brother’s enthusiasm back in the days. From my side it did not disappear, I was leaping from fish tank to fish tank with stars in my eyes like back in the days, but we finished the tour in like one and a half hours and I was kind of disappointed. Wasn’t the “shark tunnel” - where you could walk through the biggest tank with fishes all around you - longer? Wasn’t there more before? Sadly no. I tend to rewatch movies as time passes by, and I acquire a new mindset so I usually have different impressions and opinions after I watch them, than before. I’m pretty sure it is kind of like the opposite with all these animal parks. They could get some more animals than five years before, but the mark they leave is pretty much the same. Of course your childish glee can turn into a rebel yell as you walk through the imprisoned animals, but keep in mind, a lot of extintion threatend species were saved thanks to zoos. As we grow up we change and we start to look at the world in a different perspecive, a more rational one. In the meantime we have to keep in mind to not let the child inside us die, because “all that hope and that joy, that trust and that care, those dreams of a boy” or girl are all inside us and we can make a world a more cheerful place if we don’t suppress those feelings and ambitions. As they say, “the creative adult i the child who survived.” And in my opinion it is all true. If we let the world roll us under it’s cruel wheels we will sure lose all our excitement and joy, we become numb to everything and everyone. I’m not saying we should stay child-like and just hover over and around the problems, but we could certainly try a new approach.

Animal Fact of the Day

Greetings I am back for another daily animal fact! Okay did you know in 2005, a new kind of monkey, the highland mangabey was discovered in Africa. At the same time it became one of the rarest and most threatened of all animal species. And here is a photo of one I believe (it says highland mangabey so hopefully this is the correct monkey species I found on google images) 

It’s so sad this monkey was only a recent discovery yet already is a threatend species. I love African Animals a lot so when I see ones that become endanger I become sad because Africa does have the best animals out there (well at least I think so)
