Smeyer has such contempt for most of her human characters that becoming or not becoming a vampire is kind of a no-brainer. What is there to lose by becoming a vampire? The Cullens are not a force of subversion in the slightest, they are Fortune 500 types, except they are dead outside instead of inside, also they’re strong and fast and sparkly and stuff, but they don’t show it, and they are not shunned by the outside world, they are no threat to society (except for their crazy driving and tax evasion but that’s neither here not there). That’s why there’s so little you actually need to change if your name is E. L. James: there’s very little that is supernatural or very weird or upsetting about the Cullens, at least in the way the narration frames it all.
The subversive vampires, the murderous vampires, the drifters, the secret society? They’re killed, they’re sent back to Europe, they go home so that Edward and Bella and the Cullens can live the perfect American lifestyle, except they’ll mostly stay amongst themselves because what is there to like about human beings anyway?
The Twilight Saga is weirdly misanthropic in a way that very few pieces of vampire fiction are, yet its Good Vampires are presented as a perfected version of human beings β€” at least the American conservative vision of perfection β€” rich and white and forever beautiful, above society while being respectable by its (Christian) standards. It’s kind of a fascinating bunch of novels because of that. It makes them hard to like, through that lens, but interesting to engage with.

Honestly, with how amazing the sets of the OP live action look, I’m starting to think One Piece is one of the few shows where being adapted into live action is actually very meta and appropriate.Β
Because when it was a manga or anime, everyone always just said it wasΒ β€˜too cartoony’ and childish and stuff and brushed it off as bad art or concept, but then Gear Five and Nika came at us to slap it in our faces that it was all the exact intention in the first place. It was always meant to be that cartoony, on purpose.Β
I feel the LA really just drives in that Luffy was always supposed to be this bizzare, weirdly cartoony character in a world where none of it isΒ normal, you know? And it does that better than the anime does (because anime art helps with a suspension of disbelief and all.)Β
During the whole East Blue saga, all his enemies screamed and freaked out at the sight of him because why is his face stretching like that? That’s so creepy, get him away from me!Β And it’s just so incredibly ironic that the initial public audience reception to LA Luffy stretching is disgust. Like, β€˜ew that’s so weird-looking!’ or that the CGI was bad.Β
It’s so ironic, because that’s exactly it! That’s exactly what they’re trying to do! That’s exactly what the Gomu Gomu no mi is supposed to make you feel!Β

I feel like kingdom hearts has two distinct parts of the fandom that intermingle often because we're all Weird Kids who enjoy Kingsdome Cardioid.
Part the first are the Sora Saga people. These people have played every numbered title, ReCOM, Days, BBS, DDD, Frag Pass, MM and maybe Coded for the freaks. They're aware the mobile games exist but they'd rather watch YouTube video breakdowns of the story so they're aware of The Plot Relevance and will just Wait Until KH New Game comes out.
Part the second are the Keepers of the True Lore, or the mobile game players. Yes they have played the other games but they love the mobile stuff far more. Either because the myriad Characters That Aren't Sora are fun and interesting, perhaps moreso than the "main cast", or the Lore and Lore Implications or it informs their playthroughs of the nonmobile titles or the mobile games give them heftier and darker story than what exists in the main games. They've played all the iterations of the mobile game and cannot wait for Missing Link to come out.
But the ones in the middle? The ones who fit in the middle of the Venn Diagram that makes up these two parts of the fandom? Those are the True Believers who will inevitably summon Actual Kingdom Hearts in the middle of Shibuya Crossing or something.

Please post I have shitty wifi rn:
Uhhhh guys I fear I may need Steven Rodriguez in an anime now.
So just a quick preface, something I’ve started noticing about like my reception to the sagas is that I have to listen to them repeatedly for me to visualize the songs and understand why Jorge chose to include what he included, which is why I took a bit longer to write my thoughts. The only exception is Thunder Saga which I liked immediately.
I wasn’t freaking out like was at the end of the Wisdom Saga, but that doesn’t mean it was bad (I didn’t like God Games but it still blew me away - of course now I do). But I just kind of took it in silently this time?
Anyway, right now my favorite song is definitely Not Sorry for Loving You. Wangui’s voice is just amazing. I also really liked Gigi’s animatic. I know we’re not supposed to feel bad for Calypso, but man is Gigi making it hard. I have so many thoughts about how Jorge characterized Calypso and I just wish I knew how to properly write it down. But it always feels like it ends up being a defense essay lmao (I’m not defending her I’m just saying she’s portrayed sympathetically in EPIC and that we need to acknowledge Calypso in the Odyssey is very different than the one we got in EPIC).
I think Dangerous might be my next favorite. I also require a plushie of that winion Jay’s sister voiced. And the twerking winion. I did not expect Aeolus to get an indirect callback and I loved all the motifs in the later songs (whoops no longer talking about Dangerous). Definitely a vibe. But, Ody, my man, danger is definitely not your friend. The only other thing that isn’t your friend is your hubris (cough cyclops saga cough).
I think Six Hundred Strike tops Get in the Water just a tiny bit. I love Aeolus’ motif in the beginning and the ensemble voices. Also that 3D animationβ€”WHAT?! Where does he find these people?! I’ll admit, I am a little disappointed how easily Poseidon was beaten. I know Jay said he’s better at long ranged but I still think it should’ve taken a little more. I am glad that Odysseus at least kind of acknowledges he was selfish but ehh I’m still gathering my thoughts on Odysseus. But y’all, Steven needs to star in an anime. His acting was fucking awesome. β€œNext to my wife…” fucking badass.
Get in the Water was also cool. Even after all this time, Odysseus still seems to struggle with ruthlessness. He tries to talk down Poseidon from fighting. I don’t really know how to explain it. And of course, Jay just HAD to bring back Polites, Eurylochus, Anticlea, and also the crew. Will we ever be free from the trauma???
Charybdis was also cool but because Charybdis doesn’t sing, it’s a little weird. Like it just seems like Odysseus is shouting out stuff. But I think the orchestration alone manages to cover for it. Like you can hear the intensity of the battle in the music even if Charybdis doesn’t sing. I think the way he transitioned from action to Odysseus’ longing was also pretty well done.

That’s like the peak of how many people were on the livestream. Act I ended with like 135,000 I think? Could be wrong, wasn’t checking every minute

the king of carrot flowers
inspired on the song of the same name by neutral milk hotel cause i think the elephant 6 recs has the canon vibe of the saga (this and numero group/4AD kind of too)
this song is in a kinda big playlist im making for the books, with lots of slowcore (red house painters mostly) freak folk (the decemberists surtout, some cocorosie, elephant 6 artists) a lot of retro 2000s indie (arcade fire, islands) some tweepop and some weird stuff i think fitted the vibe (maruja, menomena, tuxedomoon, american analog set, the long winters)

My little sister watches Toh saga
We uh... got through episodes 8-11 so a bit to cover!
Episode 8
Starting off the episode with Hooty. She was already invested.
"I'll never find a way into Amity's heart!" cue Rock face from here
So uh as much as she loves Hooty she still was weird out by him... swallowing King
"What is Hooty eating???" Cuz King was covered in some stuff.
Oh shit this is puberty talk I thought in a panic
Anyways!!! Bug dance was funny. She was re repeating DON'T YOU TALK ABOUT MY MOTHER for a while.
"HOW BIG IS THAT SYRINGE??"
Voice powers had her hyped actually, she was all "What is that?? HE HAS POWERS NOW???" Cute
Onto Eda!!
"I want those cookies." I am not letting you get roofied by a baked good, kid >:(
Oh she was not ready for Owlbeast to attack Dell lemme tell ya.
We got the Archivists part of the Owl Beasts memories and I popped off
She really loved the segment where Eda talked to the Owl Beast.
"I want a plush of it."
"THAT'S SO PRETTY!!!!" in reference to the ending of the dream sequence
SAY HI TO HARPY EDA KID :DDDD
"SHE CAN DO THAT???"
Onto the Lumity segment (y'all were waiting weren't you)
"Stop blushing so much oh my gosh." "They do that a lot trust me."
She was all "ohh nooo" at the reveal of the Tunnel of Love and I was dying inside.
"Amity calm down oh my gosh!" I am in tears rn
she was sooooo hyped at the part where King used his powers again
Little tiny gasp at the Lumity part immediately after
the part where Luz was dancing around asking Amity out she was YELLING
"JUST DO IT ALREADY!!!"
Hooty receives a letter from someone
"KING'S DAD!?!?" no
Episode 9
She has been obsessed with what Belos looks like under the mask ever since we first saw him
"Oh man sure hope Little Rascal doesn't get caught...." "Why?" "... Remember how Belos eat-" "NO I DON'T WANT TO-" (Doing just fine here-)
"That's what he looks like?? ... ew what's the green for??"
I am freaking out right now kid, don't ask me
I paused so much because wow implications when you know the full story are REAL
"What did you think of that conversation (. ❛ α΄— ❛.)" "... Creepy." GIRL SAME
"Is that-" "Dragon Ball Z? Yes" (knows through memes okay?)
"Oh what happened to her??" "She's sick :("
we will now skip over a bunch of stuff nothing too exciting happened here tbh
I am pausing so much during this episode and it's annoying her (YOU WILL UNDERSTAND I PROMISE!!!)
"Lotta projection going on here." "... what?"
Had to explain some stuff about the convo between Hunter and Amity over the Tamagotchi (give her a moment)
"Oh. That's not good." "It really isn't."
Don't mind me just sobbing inside at every Hunter/Flapjack interaction.
Was so so so worried for Owlbert there.
"It's in the key?!?" Yeah uh so here we are :)))))
She was so entranced with the animation and so was I (with internal screaming though)
"SHE CRACKED IT!!!"
"Mushroom Luz."
Was awwing over Flapjack and Hunter at the end (don't mind me just... gonna go over here and AUGHHHHH)
Episode 10
"Who is that?? How is she in the mirror"
"Weird door."
In between is really interesting actually
"IT'S!!! HER!! THE SLUG!!"
Again I found her watching this show at S3E1 at the intro part (all she remembers was Hunter and Vee thank god) so she popped off here.
"She's cute. I like her."
*pause* "Okay so you see that?" *points at Gravesfield logo* "Remember that." "okay..."
"Oh and those two." *points at the the Wittebanes* "Okay I will sheesh πŸ™„" /lh
She will not
"The basilisks remember? "OH YEAH-"
Not much from her until the rain sequence.
"HOW IS SHE HOLDING HER??" girl don't sweat it, cry with me instead :)
"I feel bad for Camila.' SAME
Episode 11
Honestly not much happened here with her so uhhh....
Biggest take away for her though
"CAT COVEN PERSON!!!" (coven scout)
"King read her diary-"

Random thoughts dump
Anyone else have that thing where they can't STAND scratching metal at all? Like just now I opened my fridge and my nail barely grazed it but it was like nails on a chalkboard. Eugh. My teeth were set on edge and shdckjrsbchjsjbhcherj. And it happens way too often too.
Also do you ever just lay on the floor cuz you got a really nice new soft rug so obviously you lay on it and you're listening to music specifically epic the musical the wisdom saga specifically god games and then. The ending. Hbhghgsdthgjdsjhdshgjhbsdhjgvde whole animatic hallucination in your head and it'd be so freaking COOOOOOLLLLL. And then you play songs about fire/villainy songs and you have a whole bunch of ideas and they just keep coming and jfsnerjkferjhferhknfjernhsdvchjdbkjrenhrefj. Ehehehehehehheehehheheeh
Do you ever just walk in on your younger siblings watching a show you used to watch all the time and it's nice because it feels like they're carrying on the legacy?
Hoodies are one of the freaking greatest things of all time
Depression is so weird. Like life throws stuff at you and then your brain is like "here have some random crippling sadness for no reason at all!" Like does anyone else think that's so silly? :D
How did humans manage to invent all this advanced technology and yet we still have pollution and environmental damage and all that? Also how are we not living on the moon yet? (THIS IS A JOKE I PROMISE I KNOW WHY DON'T SUE ME)
Cheez-its :]
Anyone else just randomly start pointing out easily discernable objects when silence gets uncomfortable? Like you'll be sitting in the car and it's awkwardly quiet so you look out the window and say something like "omigosh a tree!"
TURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLESTURTLES
sometimes I like to play this fun game in band called "am I just bad at playing flute, is the rest of the band too loud and I'm too quiet, is my embouchure just too tight, or is my flute broken again?" To try and determine why it's suddenly super hard to play and I can't hear myself :D (it's broken like three times)
I freaking love music so much :]
SINCE WHEN WAS THERE A CHOCOLATE CHIP FLAVORED POPTART????????
Hehehehh I love confusing my siblings with words they don't understand
Artttttt ideassssssss :')
How do people. Remember things. ???????
Anyway hope y'all have a great day/night :]

but what are your bridgerton opinions? share share
AAHHH 🫣 ty for asking omg! opinions time 😏
my big thing is that i'm annoyed whenever people complain about the lack of historical accuracy in the clothing, or when people complain that it all looks over the top... i firmly believe that bridgerton as a series of works has no interest in historicity (see rants A and B)!! so i think it's much more interesting for the costuming department to be able to construct these really interesting, elaborate gowns instead of painstakingly trying to recreate clothing from 200 years ago :^) plus they get to use modern visual language to emphasize characters' roles!!! like we know cressida and the featheringtons are trying too hard bc the patterns/materials they wear are what we associate with tacky/costume-y sort of looks πŸ‘€
i haven't seen many people talk about this - but i really wish the show had stuck with the 10 year time skip before colin's book... penelope is 28 years old during her book romance! both her maturity and her having to reckon with being "old" while never having been kissed/romanced is a big part of why her story resonated w me ;; it doesn't quite hit the same in the show, where she's probably in her early 20s still...
probably the worst decision the show has made for the polin romance is having colin keep an erotic diary rather than what he has in the novel, which is a travel journal 😭 i'll put this below the readmore since it's a pretty big spoiler haha
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ anyway cressida's gowns are everything πŸ˜”πŸ«‘
spoilers ahead for colin's weird erotic diary!!!
basically, the polin romance works so well bc they both respect one another as writers! so far, we only have one comment from penelope about colin's writing, which is right when she reads his diary and he finds her snooping :(
throughout colin's novel, we see him as really insecure bc his brothers have achieved some measure of success (anthony is respected as the viscount bridgerton and benedict is a renowned artist) while he's just kind of traveling the european continent lol... so when colin discovers that penelope is lady whistledown, he freaks out A) because she has haters and he has to "protect" her (LMAO) and B) because she's a successful writer and he wants to publish his travel journals, but he's insecure as an amateur writer...
and basically colin has to grow from:
not understanding why penelope is so proud of her gossip column, to
understanding why penelope is so proud of her gossip column (it's her life's work and is a valid literary artform), to
overcoming his jealousy of penelope's success, to
being actively proud of penelope's success and her talents
which is so fascinating!!! i can't think of many other romances/works that feature a male romantic partner who's jealous of his female romantic partner's abilities!! dude overcame his toxic masculinity and basically spends the rest of the bridgerton saga telling anyone who listens how much he loves his wife :') it's great stuff
anyway... i'm not super sure how the bridgerton show is going to tackle the whole "colin is jealous of penelope's talents as a writer" thing... because if he's writing erotica, how is he going to get published??? is he going to be regency nicholas sparks????? also, not everything has to be about sex/romance!!! his travel journals were perfectly fine as they were!!
plus so far the only hint we have that colin's insecure is his weird playboy era, but even that... i'm not super sure if that's supposed to be evidence of his insecurity, or if the show is hastily establishing his "rake reputation" that all the bridgerton men have LMAO

When I was a kid, I used to spend what felt like several hours a week at the public library. My parents took the library seriously--our town didn't actually have its own library so we had to go to the next one over and pay a fee for our household to get cards. And we went all the time, because my sister and I were homeschooled through most of elementary school so we could do that. I don't actually have any memory of what my mom did while we were there--as far as I can remember she just disappeared and let me do what I wanted as long as I was quiet.
The children's librarian was one of my favorite grownups and always had book recs for me, but my very favorite thing to do was to wander into the adult stacks and sit on the floor of the sci fi/fantasy section and take interesting books off the shelves and open them in the middle to read them for awhile and then put them back.
Keep in mind I was like, maybe in 3rd or 4th grade.
There was some weird stuff in there. Whenever I see people freaking out about what sort of reading material children can have access to (both the ones wanting to ban books at school libraries and the ones who want to ban certain types of fics on AO3) I remember all the graphic violence and rape and body horror I stumbled across as a small child loose in a public library. But also, of course, there were all the wonders of authors exploring all the different ways that people and worlds could be.
I was just remembering this because I read Shards of Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold this weekend (the fandom has some surprising overlaps with some others I'm in, so I decided to check it out) and it felt like the kind of sci fi novels I used to read on the floor of the library when I was a kid--just non stop adventure-violence-wonder-scheming-atrocities-romance etc (not necessarily in that order). It starts with two enemies trying to cooperate to survive in a hostile landscape, with the classic 'oh no he's hot' (and a good person!) and then just accelerates from there. It was so much fun, but then it also had that last chapter that reminded me of all the parts of Record of a Spaceborn Few that made me cry my eyes out. So, you know. It's got a lot going on. I liked it.
Tl;dr: kids are going to read what they want, libraries are great, but I'm a little disappointed in mine that it only has a couple volumes of Vorkosigan Saga.

That's the thing, it's so weird a lot movies made today are reboots when every original movie is kind of a 'reboot' already? It's just that you're ignoring it, because it doesn't have the name of the thing you like, but that's stupid, because you don't like the thing you like for it's name or external appearance, you like it for the substance.
You mash different things together, and add pieces of yourself along the way.
I would like to use my favorite book as an example. Beautiful Creatures is definitely not as popular as Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, or Hunger Games, and if you even heard of it, chances are you probably know it as that one weird Twilight rip-off Alden Erenreich starred in before he became a popular actor. But that's the thing, it is actually kinda freaking great? And a great example for this exercise.
I think what I love about it, is that you can tell the authors Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl were nerds like us when growing up in the 80s. Kami Garcia has stated that Harrison Ford was her crush when she was younger, and Margaret Stohl is a huge Han and Leia shipper, and you can tell. Years before Ereinreich became Solo, he already kinda was playing a character inspired by Ford, with this snarky small town boy, who seems gruff but is actually really sweet and tender, and is actually really funny and gets beaten up a lot.
And then the main girl? She's this sweet, but feisty girl, also quite snarky when she wants to be, but the authors aren't afraid to make her vulnerable too. They have a sorta antagonistic relationship at first, because she doesn't trust him, and her father figure, named Mr. Ravenwood might I add, hates the boy's guts, because he trusts him even less with his beloved adopted daughter. She has black hair and green eyes. She's Marion Ravenwood! It's Indiana Jones as a fantasy high school drama! Without the problematic age gap. They did the thing all those Disney remakes want to do, but fail because the problematic elements are kinda baked into the narrative.
Let's also not ignore that Kami Garcia has said that she would love to write characters from The Craft, and the main girl is a witch with green eyes, who's kind of a girl next door, who's antisocial, kinda depressed, and heaven help you if you endanger her, her friends or her family, because she can be ruthless. When I finally watched the Craft I was flabbergasted by how much Sarah Bailey reminds me of this character, to the point I actually looked into if the authors have seen the movie, and sure enough, they did. A big deal in the book is made of the fact that when she uses her magic her hair starts billowing in the wind, and she can cause storms and lightning strikes, which is very reminiscent of the epilogue of The Craft, where Sarah shows that she still has magic powers and scares off her bitter ex-friends. The element of former best friend becoming a dangerous rival is also present, with a redemption arc at that, something The Craft fans have often expressed Nancy deserved.
Also, the whole thing feels a lot like the Phoenix Saga. The fact that our main girl might become insanely powerful and turn evil is a big part of her character arc. And the book once again kinda improves on the inspiration by subverting this trope of "Woman with power become evil". The whole point of her arc is learning to accept the parts of her that are 'dark'. It's okay to break the rules sometimes, it's okay to feel angry, it's okay to not be nice to everyone. It's a very relatable arc if you grew up catholic. It's kind of a bold moral for a book written in 2009.
It's just cool seeing all these elements that combine into a bigger whole. It's really inspiring to see that professional writers are also just huge nerds like us, and their books are basically kinda crossover high school AUs of the stuff they grew up watching.
Nothing is technically stopping you from writing your own MCU reboot, or Transformers series. Change some stuff around, make the characters your own, and voila.

Hi! I hope your day's going well :) If it's not too weird to ask, I've seriously always wondered, how long have you been writing for? What made you fall in love with it? And what were your biggest inspirations?
It's legit been on my mind since TSIB when I noticed immediately that your writing carried a lot of love inside of it! It's had me curious ever since.
hello!! i’ve just woken up, and so far so good haha <3 i hope your day is also wonderful!!
this definitely isn’t too weird to ask!!! this feels like a slightly cop out answer, but i’ve been writing for nearly as long as i can remember. i was always just writing really silly things, stories between me and my friends and such. i think the first solid memory i have of anyone ever saying β€œhey, you have some real talent here” was in 6th grade honestly. it was a silly story for school where we were writing about candy bars of all things, and my teacher took me aside to talk to me about it, and i fully thought i was getting in trouble. i wrote my first fully finished story at 11/12, though, so i guess if i had to put a number on it all.... like 12-13 years? oof. god, that's a long time.
as for what made me fall in love with it - i was always a reader first and foremost. it was a really natural transition for me. in the 5th grade, i remember reading the series "Cirque Du Freak: The Saga of Darren Shan" (which 10/10 recommends for older kids. clearly, the vampire obsession started young.) and just thinking "hey, i wanna write stuff like this!" and so i just... did. and i loved it. i loved creating characters and making my own worlds, getting just as lost in the writing as i could in books. and my writing was bad, make no mistake, but it was mine. i think i always sort of knew i wasn't going to be a rocket science, or a math genius, or a nobel prize winner, but suddenly i had found something that just sort of clicked for me. i was creating. regardless if it was good and regardless if other people were reading/enjoying, i was creating. and that just felt right. it still feels right. since i started writing at 11, i don't think there's been a time in my life where i haven't been consistently writing something. there's been lapses where i stopped sharing, or felt utterly defeated, or just felt stuck in my skill set, but i never really stopped. stories, poetry, songs - i'm just always writing as an escape. i've also had a discussion with a therapist regarding how i feel like my writing is all i have to offer. for the life of me, i can't remember the author/origin of the quote (nor the quote exactly), but there's this poetic bit where a woman is actually speaking to her therapist, and she says something along the lines of "it has to be good. because it is a part of me." essentially, she was saying she finds herself to be nothing good, something rotten, and so she needs her writing to be worth it because it's inherently a part of her. as though her writing is an apology for all that she is. and i guess i love writing because it gives me that chance to apologize - a chance to say "sorry i'm not always worth it, but here's something to make up for it. here's the one thing i can give to you."
my biggest inspirations to this day still remain other writers/creative individuals! i think it's hard as a writer to not be a reader, y'know? i tend to apply the whole "never be satisfied, never just settle" tactic to a lot of my life - always strive to be kinder, always strive to improve my writing, etc. i find a lot of inspiration in music since that's a huge part of my life along with all the writing/reading, and i also find a lot of inspiration in my own life experiences. usually the more unpleasant ones. (oh, how gross, i fall into the tortured artist stereotype. wah.) i think that's why i enjoy fandom so much, though! i'm surrounded by all these talented individuals who constantly take my breath away with their talent, with their big beautiful brains, and it encourages me to want to be better. to be able to offer something just as beautiful and stunning as they do.
also, complete transparency? the community i've managed to build. you guys. those of you who have taken a chance on me and my words, and enjoyed them. the people who get excited for the next updates on my stories and the people who will squeal back and forth (whether in real life or in person) about these characters, these worlds, with me. it's not so much the 'fame', because it feels wonderful regardless of if it's thousands of people or only 2 people, but just... that connection, y'know? it feels like tangible proof to say "hey, my words are worth something. i could be remembered." does that sound narcissistic? god, i truly hope that doesn't sound narcissistic.
anyways, sorry, this is a terribly long word vomit haha. probably not what you signed up for at all when you sent the ask, nonnie. my apologies! i just really, really love writing/reading. and i can't explain how happy it makes me that that translate into my works. thank you - for reading my words, for caring, and for sharing that joy with me <3

Weird question but i'm curious! What's the granblue event/character that you think is underrated and which overrated?
oh that's tough to say
i'm a bit of a Basic Bitch in general as far as events are concerned, and i don't dislike things easily. I love a lot of the popular things, so it's hard to really pinpoint stuff outside of popular things....
and unfortunately i've seen some petty sides of the fandoms that made me so angry that my answers could be very surprising without knowing the shitshow the release of those events have been.
under cut:
for example i adored Seeds of Redemption on its release but literally everyone and everything were hating on it, it was very frustrating to read and watch. I also remember a significant backlash after Strength to Wield came out which still annoys me lol. (the dragon knights saga is popular because of its characters but everytime an event comes out people complain about the plot dragging on from one event to the next which is a bit annoying).
i also really liked some more low stakes events (Drusilla's event come to mind, the latest Tyra's event too, i though the latest Barawa one was nice too) and then going on twitter i mostly saw people talk about how they weren't good, or were boring and stuff and i'm just. so so tired with the cynicism of the fandom in general. I feel like a lot of people don't actually want to bother engaging with the events and mostly just read them by a force of habits, but it becomes really tiring to read their reactions.
meanwhile, i adore wmtsb and i would always talk about it and everything, but it's an understatement to say it genuinely clouded people's mind on what a granblue event should be and i think the elitism of some wmtsb fans about how those are the "only good events" to be one of the worst thing ever and one of the reason that while i'd love a continuation for my own sake, i would also not be disappointed if there is never any new content for it.
also in general i don't care much for Zodiac related content. I like some of the generals, but their contents generally don't interest me much.
In term of characters, I guess i could apply the same logic to wmtsb characters even though i also adore them lmao. Also probably the dragons as well, but it's mostly striking because of how much Granblue is banking on it with merch and stuff, so they're always in focus and it's a bit overwhelming, even while liking them. I also really don't like Catura so there's that lmao.
in term of underrated characters, i've been vindicated with the years so it's hard to say. Randall and Feather were characters i adored from their R/SR days back when they were actually more underrated (well, Randall was, Feather always appealed to a niche) -- but Marionette Stars changed that, i think? so i don't know how much it still counts.
Also likewise for Troue tho on this one i'm a bit annoyed lmao, i loved him since Marionette Stars pt 1 (i didn't have his unit then so it was my first encounter with him, and like. I genuinely adore amnesiac characters who are terrified of getting their memories back because they're terrified of who they used to be. I adore this archetype), and then when pt 2 came out, Felix won a bit in popularity and i saw people say "oh Troue was so boring but now that Felix is in the game it's sooo much more interesting" and it kinda irks me a little. if you didn't love him at his "terrified of who he used to be" you don't deserve him at his "and indeed who he used to be is a little freak". Like it frustrates me because in a way is he still underrated? Esp since people only pay attention to him because of Felix now? this is sooo frustrating to me.
I'll also slot Catherine as underrated mostly because Granblue itself still isn't doing anything with her character and it's so frustrating to only have FE as content for her.
All in all though i really generally like Granblue's writing, so it's not like i can be mad when something meets its audience, and for the most part there's nothing i really dislike. I may have things i like more than the norm, but i don't generally feel like people don't like them at all in a sense?
but there are loud parts of the fandoms that manage to be on their high horses and annoying about what they prefer and it stains their saga by association. Unfortunately since it's also one of my favorite saga, it's really even much more frustrating to me to say "yeah the thing i adore is overrated".
All in all, it's also just one of the major reasons i try to not touch the fandom. The Granblue Fandom has a tendency to dunk on anything Granblue does because "ahah we're stuck here forever and we don't even have fun" type of jokey mentality that i absolutely despise. And to me this is fully depressing. And i don't want those people to influence the way i look at things, so i prefer to ignore them instead.
So i try not to think about what people actually like in this fandom. I'm in my corner, i tend to like things pretty freely, if it's popular things, nice, if not, then it's me and those things against the world.
But while i def have answers to that, i don't want to think about the fandoms "liking things the wrong way". In the end, everyone likes the things they like. I just would ask them to stop acting so high and mighty about the stuff they like and dislike.
so yeah <3

So I finally got a chance to watch a little bit of the skibidi toilet saga. And tbf...
.......that was it??
Why is everyone getting so gynormously hyped both bad or good over it? I mean, its FINE. I think I totally get why most kids like it. Its freaky deaky robots and toilets blasting each other. That's a silly but coherent enough idea. It would the exact sorta thing I would expect a preschooler with some toy action figures to come up with in his or her own warped idiotic imagination. It's a bit weird and creepy. A bit gross and violent. A bit badass and flashy. A bit random and silly. It is blatantly popular video game trend related. That is just stuff that little kids like. Or most anyway. You can find it lame or annoying or unnerving a bit but I really do not get what makes it freak out people OR what makes kids particularly obsessed with it beyond any other viral thing. But I think if you remember growing up with shit like early MTV or Newgrounds or AlbinoBlacksheep in its heyday you would realize this kind of this is pretty grounded and tame.
It makes really more sense than the average David Firth cartoon and Monty Python short and Boomers and my fellow Gen X/Millenial's will praise those as high art, but its kind of a cgi stylistic love letter tribute or a ripoff practically of those exact sort of things,at least in a sense(I have no clue if that was the creator's intent or not but who honestly cares?)
I just watch and am like "ok. I guess that's sorta cool. Someone didn't make Apocalypse Now or anything, but still clearly had fun and used SOME effort so.... *shrug*"
Its clearly just a guy making silly crap for fun. What's the big deal? Why the obsession, or the villification about it? It doesn't seem to bear any terrible message beyond making more nervous kids anxious with some ugly uncanny valley imagery and there are always gonna be stupid cartoons and games about warfare, cat was outta that bag long ago. On the other hand I guess people are freaked by the slavish adoration about it. I'm gonna be honest if I have ever a kid I be be concerned if it would have slavish devotion to ANY cartoon -but not cos I would worry about some absurdist piece of media twisting their 11 year old "values", whatever those are, but cos as a fellow cartoon obsessee I know how life dominating such a thing becomes and it doesn't go away, oh no, it gets worse, and I just would not want my poor kid sucked too far down the rabbit hole of making endless shitty fanfiction instead of yknow, having healthy food or physical activity each day for 14 hours.

Knightfall Saga: Bane breaks Bruce's back, Azrael becomes Batman. Please do not give the 14 year old responsibility for the hyper-violent dissociative cult victim! There is a lot of very good stuff in here, but it's really obvious how badly everyone has failed Tim. Which adds a lot to the mythos. Like Jean-Paul better in other stuff. Wish CASS had been around to keep him on the straight and narrow! That would be fun!
Prodigal: Azrael has left to find redemption, Dick becomes Batman. Dick and Tim bonding! They have so much fun and Tim's hero worship is adorable! It's nice when crossovers aren't entirely darkness and horror.
Contagion: Crossover that is entirely darkness and horror. Infectious disease breakout with LOTS of bleeding from the eyes. All the visuals freak me out and it has lots of brotherly interaction so I had to SEE THEM. Also, Alfred thinks it's a funny joke to tell Dick that Tim is dead. What is WRONG with him??? The Selina interactions are fun. Don't like this event.
Legacy: ??? This is Contagion the Sequel, but I know nothing that happens in it. Don't like when Ra's and Bane team up, so I would probably think it's bad.
Cataclysm: No clear differentiation between this and No Man's Land for me. This is the part where the earthquake happens and someone tries to claim they caused it. Haven't really read it.
No Man's Land: Gotham has a lot of broken infrastructure, the government gives up on it, and Rogues take over much of the city. The Bats SLOWLY take it back. GAVE US CASS! Poison Ivy started her journey to the complex character she now is, and it was great! Tim snuck into Gotham after his dad fled to Keystone! Steph gave birth! Lots of fun ethical quandaries about what to do once the legal system was no longer in place! Haven't read it all, but I approve.
Officer Down: Never read it, don't know the plot.
Murderer/Fugitive: Bruce's girlfriend is murdered, and the cops think he did it. He goes on the run. Okay. Lots of cool exploration into these guys' weird brains and how their relationships are NOT normal. Neither is their decision making. Cass digs up a corpse to nerve pinch. Dick and Tim have a really good fight that makes me empathize with both of them. Bruce makes VERY BAD decisions, and basically tells Dick he's decided not to be his dad anymore. The interactions are really good!
War Games: Steph gets fired at Robin, starts a gang war that Bruce had as a contingency plan, and everything goes very poorly. Depressing, not well written, and killing Steph had long term effects. Mad that Orpheus and Onyx are dead. Also, I LIKE Leslie and Bruce's ethical standoff, how dare this ruin the fun!
Batman RIP: I dislike this. It is long and weird and I'm tired of Bruce getting evil girlfriends AND people writing predatory mentally ill people causing other people to question reality because it's so dangerous to be around the mentally ill. But it only really has Bruce in it, so I can ignore it.
Battle for the Cowl: Bruce is dead and everyone fights over who should be Batman. The main person who should be Batman does not show up because the writers are sexist. Horribly written - both in getting the voice of characters AND at having anyone act in intelligent ways. But the only person it really damages is Jason, and Morrison is about to show up and do that much better.
-
I voted for War Games; but personally, I'm least willing to interact with Contagion. Just hits my buttons. Ick.
Okay, as a more drama filled alternative to my previous poll:
(including 2000s events in here because I know you guys want me to)
(EDIT: Should've said post-crisis in the title to be more clear)

ERROR - A Steve Saga AU
2 | When Memories Hit
πŸ’›β–¬Alizza’s P.O.V.β–¬πŸ’›
I slowly woke up to the sound of hushed whispering next to me.Β
I groaned, slowly lifting my head. As I opened my eyes, I saw a guy in some weird chicken onesie standing next to a boy with galaxy-themed clothes and…hair? β€˜Okay, then.’ I took in my surroundings. There were wooden walls, oak doors, glass windows, and green grass outside. A forest surrounds the plain full of colorful flowers. I finished looking around, a feeling of anxiety beginning to bubble up in my stomach.Β
"Who are these people? What are they doing here? What am I doing here? Where is here?!" I mumbled, my tone rising in panic.
The chicken man stepped forward to the side of the bed. β€œCalm down, you’re just in our cabin. You need to rest; you don’t look too good.”
I sat up and attacked the chicken guy and the galaxy-looking one in an attempt to disable them somehow. I kicked my way out from the bed I woke up in, struggling to open the door in my hurry. I felt a warm hand grab my wrist just as I managed to yank it open.Β
I jumped, startled, and elbowed the arm away. β€œLet go of me!" I screamed, the grip on my arm tightening when I tried to pull myself free. The feeling in my stomach was growing. I turned around and found a dark face inches away from mine. β€œI said, let me go. I'm not sure I even know you!" I yanked my wrist out of his hand and rushed out of the door, not bothering to shut the door behind me as I ran as fast and as far as I could from the wooden house.Β
After putting some distance between me and the cabin, I paused and took in big gulps of air. I was surrounded by birch trees, oak trees, and grass, a pond nearby. I found an oak tree and sat against its trunk as I tried to figure out what happened. As I recalled the faces of the two people I woke up next to, I remembered that the guy in the chicken onesie was wearing a sort of bandana over his eyes. β€˜I wonder why…’ I began to make up reasons as a distraction, but my thoughts were interrupted by a grumbling noise. I felt a small fire eating away at my stomach. I stood and looked up into the oak tree in hopes of finding something, like berries.Β
β€œAn apple!" I exclaimed, reaching up and snatching the red fruit off a low branch. The juice trickled down my throat as I bit into the apple. Flower fields stretch endlessly into the distance, an oak forest nearby. β€œThis place is pretty, isn't it, Rai-" I started without thinking. I cut myself off, remembering that he was gone. All of them were. Everyone I knew before was gone. My best friend was dead because of me. And my brother?Β
β€œI miss you, Rainbow…" My voice cracked slightly as the memories of my older brother flooded into my brain. He had left home earlier than I had wanted him to. He said that he had some β€œpersonal problems’ to deal with. He was gone for a long time. A few years later, I heard that he had been destroyed. He had saved multiple people, but forgot one: me. The news had broken my heart. I didn't understand why it happened back then, and I still don't understand now. I sighed.Β
β€œIt just takes some time. Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride. Everything, everything will be just fine. Everything, everything will be alright, alright…" I sang quietly. I forced a little smile. Rainbow Steve used to sing that song to me when I was little, every time I got scared or was overwhelmed. I took a deep breath in, then slowly let it out. β€œOkay...You are fine. Everything is fine. You just need to find somewhere to stay for the night until you can figure stuff out…" I mumbled to myself. I thought for a moment, then it hit me.
β€œUuuhuuhuugh! Why did I run away? I should have just stayed there instead of panicking like some freak!" I scolded myself, hitting my forehead with my fist over and over. After I could feel my temples throbbing, I told myself that I need to walk back and apologize for freaking out and attacking them. Even so, the idea of going back made me cringe in embarrassment. I sighed and stood again, forcing myself to put one foot in front of the other. Eventually, I was walking at a steady pace back to where I ran away from.
A little while after I retraced my steps, I heard a noise behind me. I turned my head to see what it was, and I saw what looked like a Steve in front of me. He looked like some type of light blue Steve with big green splotches all over his body.Β
β€œWho are you?" I asked cautiously.
The Steve looked at me and said, β€œI’m Plague Steve. I can help you."
β€œI don’t need help," I stated. Plague Steve stared at me like he knew I was lying. "Ok, maybe just a little…" I admitted.
β€œWhat do you need help with? I can do anything you like!" Plague Steve said lightly.
β€œI need help crossing these plains so I can stay with some people."
β€œIs that all?"
β€œYes."
β€œAre you sure?" Plague Steve asked. I hesitated to answer. Is that all I want? To go back to that cabin and start again?
β€œI- Well..." I stuttered.
β€œCome on, don’t be afraid. Just say what you want and I’ll do it, free of charge." Plague Steve grinned. He seemed like a nice guy; I didn't see why I shouldn't tell him.
β€œI want my brother back…" I said quietly.Β
Plague Steve’s grin turned into a full-on smile, and he asked me, β€œWhere is he, then?"
β€œHe’s dead," I muttered.
β€œOh...Well, I can still help with that!" Plague Steve said. My eyes opened a little more, a feeling of excitement sprouting from that one sentence.Β
β€œReally? Can you bring him back?" I asked excitedly. Plague Steve simply nodded. β€œWhen?" I looked at Plague expectantly, knowing what answer I wanted.
β€œWhenever. Right now even." Plague Steve said. I stepped away and motioned for him to begin. Lightning began to strike, and for a moment, I was genuinely happy.
§˜FavreMySabre’s P.O.V.˜§
β€œMan, that girl got really defensive!" Galaxy Steve said, rubbing his chin where the girl had hit him. I muttered a β€˜yeah’ in response, only partially paying attention. She reacted the same way Rainbow Steve did when we first met. Not only that, but she looked almost identical. He never mentioned any family, but it could be possible. A few seconds later, I heard lightning coming from out the door. I headed outside to see what was happening. The rainbow girl from earlier stood next to someone else in the distance.
β€œWho is that, Sabre?" Galaxy Steve asked.
β€œI don’t know. Let’s get a closer look." I answered. We started running towards the girl, and I stopped, causing Galaxy to bump into me. He steadied himself and turned to look at me.Β
β€œWhat’s wrong, Sabre?" Galaxy Steve asked me.
β€œThat guy, the Steve she’s with, is Plague Steve," I said. Rainbow Steve and I had told Galaxy all about our past enemies, and Plague was one of them.
β€œOh. Well, I still want to know what’s happening. I guess I’ll meet you back here, Sabre." Galaxy ran off to watch them, and I stayed here, remembering when Plague had infected Rainbow Steve. I shuddered, and suddenly the air around me got a lot colder.Β
I wanted to go with Galaxy Steve, but I was afraid. Not for other people, but for myself. I was scared that if I died again, I wouldn’t be able to come back. How could I protect my friends if I was dead?
When I blacked out, I felt something. Something bad. I don’t know what happened. I tried to log off the server, but the menu wouldn’t pop up. Neither would the chat. What is going on? I pushed my brain harder to try and figure out what happened in those few minutes, and I finally came to the realization:
I was stuck here, again.
