Hellebore House

In the language of flowers, the hellebore stands for

tranquility . . . and anxiety

protection . . . and scandal

. . . and . . . delirium.

Can there be dark without light?

Pleasure, without the sting of pain?

Good, without . . . well, “evil” seems a little harsh! Not to mention how simplistic this whole system of binaries is in the first place.

The inhabitants of Hellebore House are not evil, although perhaps they are bad, or something less than good. They are self-serving, certainly. They are rather self-serious, too, and fond of luxury. They are not overly concerned with using their talents to force the wider world into a better, kinder, more enlightened shape. The world can fend for itself.

And who are you to judge them?
