I think what fascinates me most about Spider's betrayal is that, in the grand scheme of the training exercise, his role (and the actual inciting moment) almost becomes a non-entity.

It's River who disobeys orders to stand down, who injures an uninvolved police officer, who causes chaos by barging through the airport. It's River - who is so impulsive and so self-convinced of his own abilities - who escalates the situation beyond a misidentification.

Spider's role was to force an error - the fiasco, as he points out, is entirely on River. If he had stood down, he would've perhaps still been forgivable. Still slipping off the fast track, but with the legacy behind him likely to find a way back.

Of course, we know that Taverner wanted River ousted completely so the escalation was necessitated. But that brings in this really compelling question of who planned what?

Was this also a training exercise for Spider? Did Taverner just demand the end goal and not the means? If so, did Spider know to just give River enough rope to hang himself?

Just read 431 and honestly...Idk, I'm in shock tbh

It just felt so empty, so many pages filled with nothing. Every single hero we meet has their ranking displayed - because even though the ranking system has been proven to be, at best, a stupid glorification tool and, at worst, a way for heroes to directly avoid responsibilities and punishment, it's apparently still so important that we, the readers, need to know exactly where each former 1-A member is on the ranking

And then there's the ending, oh boy, the ending. While I do like that Ochako still thinks about Toga (to the point where she haunts her dreams) and she clearly has thought about her words, I still don't like how it's utilized here. Toga is now being used as nothing more than a tool to 'allow' Ochako to bring forth her feelings for Deku. Toga is not a person anymore, she's now nothing but a vehicle to allow yet another basic shounen-main-characters-ship to exist. It feels wrong.

Oh yeah, and then with a single line Touya's death was finally confirmed. Just like that. Nothing more, just a throwaway comment was all that we got... I hate it here.

Feeling very optimistic about the final chapter because I am dying for Izuku to finally be able to unpack his feelings about everything he's experienced on his hero journey, and with regards to Katsuki (and All Might, respectfully everybody else get back). We've only gotten very small bits of introspection on his end, and with one chapter left, I hope that it's all given the space it deserves. Shipping aside, bkdk's relationship is core to the series and it would be extremely confusing for hori not to give them some semblance of proper closure or signal as to what their bond is going to evolve into after the events of the story.

(But on the other hand, slightly worried about the pacing based on the last few epilogue chapters...just pictured me sitting, reading, waiting for a bkdk handhold and the here comes cementoss and company for multiple pages 😭)

like that's the stealing thieving murdering V, what gold-worthy mental gymnastics is that boy doing to justify his feelings? What is he gonna tell the rest of his badges friends when "bounty on head NY most wanted criminal scum" V shows up to the police department Christmas office party as his plus one?

Or is it another case of a man bagging a clubbing diva after meeting her wilding at the said club, then getting surprised and offended when she still wants to grove at the disco after they tie the knot. Is this a case of "I can fix her!" to River?

It was half five. Where the fuck was River? Though Miles turned out to be decent enough company. She hadn’t remembered him being as funny as he was tonight. Or maybe it was the vodka sodas. By the time River strolled in at half-six, she had almost forgotten about him. At least until she took him in, his cheek caught her attention first, a bright red cut centred a red swell of what would turn into an impressive bruise. Redness painted along his jaw, and she winced in sympathy, nervous about what other maladies were hidden under River’s jacket. 

“River, what happened?” she asked concerned. 

“Got jumped,” he said simply, motioning to the bartender and asking for a beer.

I've been looking into hiking a lot with leon and it's honestly driving me up the walls how gentrified hiking is here in Austria. most of the nicer routes are overrun and/or have horribly expensive parking.

multi day hikes/short camping trips are impossible here if you're broke and have a dog because you need to reserve and pay to sleep in sheds in the alps (that don't allow dogs) and all forms of wild camping are illegal.

idk the realisation that all of the "hardcore" hikers sleep in little well temperatured huts that usually even offer food and drinks made me realise hiking like that is just another pay to play sport. i'll just keep crawling down the day trip mountains instead.

ok, The Day of Going Forth, right?

It celebrates journeys, rebirths, and revelations

I'm thinking its probably celebrated toward the end of spring rather than the beginning. no particular reason for that besides its fuckimg cold here at the beginning of spring and I'd rather not be near any body of water until its at least 15°C outside.

so I've decided it's celebrated on the first New Moon in May, which makes it May 26th this year for anyone who wishes to celebrate alongside me

why the first new moon, I'm sure you're wondering. why not a set date? it celebrates the day the promised bride looked into the river and saw the trawlerman, so should it not have a set day?

well... this feels like the Parish of Tide and Flesh's Easter to me. so that was why I decided it should be based off of the lunar cycle as well. The new moon is both the beginning and end of the lunar cycle, and is a very clearly defined transition (as opposed to a half-moon, for instance). For those unfamiliar with the term, the new moon occurs when the moon is directly between the sun and the earth, meaning you cannot see it in the sky. With this absence, it is as though the vast darkness of the night sky, not unlike that of the river, has devoured the moon, and in a days time it shall be returned anew.

for any of my dear siblings reading this who might be interested in celebrating, but aren't sure how or where to start, don't fret, I have a few suggestions to help get the ideas flowing

first, and what I would hope to be the most obvious, is to reflect on the story of the promised bride and what you can learn from it. I may share the story and give a small sermon on The Day of Going Forth, for those interested, but you can always revisit Chapter 6 of The Silt Verses for Katabasian Mason's telling.

but of course, this is to be a day of celebration.

Surround yourself with your friends, or family. Spend some time by the river. For my siblings who are of age, treat yourselves to some schnapps -or any other drink of your choice-

We're all on our own journeys, and The Day Of Going Forth is the day for you to celebrate the progress you've made on yours. No matter how small your most recent milestone may seem, this is your excuse to be proud of it.
