Second of all, I agree with that anon about finding Jimin fascinating. I have never been this intrigued by any other celebrity. I find him different but I don't know why. He is good looking but so are other idols. I mean it's Kpop. Most have to be good looking to make it. It's just such a weird thing. Like you can't help but notice him. Everytime I watch a BTS related content, he is the first person I notice. He isn't even my favourite but my eyes will instantly see him before anyone else. He also somehow leaves the strongest mark in any mvs or performances or even simple content. It's weird. I don't get it.

I saw your ask come in days ago, just as I was logging out of the app and felt a bit bad because I knew I wouldn't have any time for Tumblr for the next few days. Lately, I've actually wanted to remain active here, but life keeps getting in the way. I know it's not a big deal but I really am thankful that so many of you understand that I'm active here only when I can afford to be. 💜

On to more interesting topics, yes to everything you said about Jimin. There's no other member I write about here more than Jimin and it's something I don't ever feel like apologizing for because that man is infinitely captivating.

It's rare to see someone who recognizes exactly what he is, as young as Jimin did. There are many points over the years that Jimin has done something, and it registered in my head that this man is different. It's human to be a bit self-indulgent, to be a little self-absorbed, a little self-deception is a very natural mechanism that sometimes shields us from other people's projections and malicious intent. And so it struck me as almost inhuman in how acutely aware Jimin was to recognize his need to be seen, heard, in the most audacious format available to him as a 13 year old boy in Busan, South Korea.

His depth of self-knowledge, indicative of his unusually high intelligence, is at the source of his magnetism and charisma. In my opinion. You can see it in his eyes and it amplifies his already unnatural beauty.

I recently started speaking with a Jimin-bias on Twitter and we've become good friends. She described Jimin like this (and I've linked in sources):

That is one reason I am ecstatic about FACE. The music itself is one thing and we'll deal with that when we get there - I may or may not like the music (though given what he's released so far, the fact he's in BTS, and him working with RM and PDogg, I doubt it). But the subject matter of FACE: Park Jimin, would interest me even if I was on my death bed with only 10 KB of data available for me to use one last time.

I'm not very good at explaining what I mean, but I hope those who love him don't take offense when I call Jimin a freak. Because that is what I'm absolutely convinced he is. I don't know how else to express just how beastly I think he really is. Looking at him for me is like looking at one of those lenticular prints that shift into different things depending on lighting - like you turn your head one way looking at Jimin and you see a panther, turn your head another way and you see a dove, turn yet another way and you see a snake. And each animal is the most perfect expression of its form. He hones every quality he expresses with a meticulousness that scares me sometimes, because every example of that sort of personality I've seen in music has burnt out or passed before 40 (Prince being the only exception). The rapline have an identical quality but they seem less volatile than Jimin to me for some reason.

Anyway, I'm rambling. I'm excited about FACE and Anon when I saw your ask come in days ago, I suspected you were fishing (lol), but also I love Jimin and will take every excuse to talk about him. It's also way easier to talk about him than it is to talk about Yoongi, Namjoon, and Hoseok for me lol.

Speaking of which, it goes without saying that Jimin's evolution in self-awareness is also a result of his relationship with the rapline in BTS, as well as some other members. Jimin's comments about how he relies on those three, of what he thinks of their characters, and about how those three have assisted and influenced him, are consistent with how I see them too.

Back to Jimin, he's a once in a lifetime personality and there's nothing wrong with admitting it.

My favorite k-pop videos

This list is likely to change depending on what day I'm posting it, but I just rewatched #1 on this list three times in a row and felt like making a list.

1. It's You - ATEEZ (Yeosang, San, Wooyoung) - this video makes me absolutely feral. The song was already my favorite on the album and then they went and released this?!?! It's so hot?! So Sexy!?!! I have an irrational fear that KQ will take it away because it's too perfect and sexy and wonderful and we don't deserve it. I was a Wooyoung/Seonghwa bias beforehand but now it's a four-way tie because holy shit have you seen them???

2. BTBT - B.I (Performance Ver.) - This was the first non-BTS video I became obsessed with, again after falling in love with the song and overplaying it (it was my top-played song of 2022). The dance is amazing, the way they flow, and it's such a simple video (the official video has cool cyberpunk vibes) but it works. This is the only video I've ever watched derivative videos for (dance covers, reactions) because I just can't get enough of it. (gif from the official vid bc the performance vid is criminally under-giffed)

3. Black Swan - BTS - Again, another one where the song got me first. The aesthetic of this video is just so good. I mean, the corsets speak for themselves, but I love how Jimin's amazing dancing gets such a highlight, the backdrops for Yoongi's meaningful verse, how good they all look. The dancing is great, the setting is beautiful, I can rewatch this ten times in a row and still want to watch it again.

4. Move - Taemin - Soooo good. Taemin is considered one of the best dancers in k-pop and he is showing you exactly why in this video. I love him embracing his androgyny here, with the more feminine dance moves and outfit silhouettes. The song is one of my favorites of all time and the video does it complete justice.

5. Rover - Kai - Hot hot hot. Kai. Shirtless. Blond. Those sunglasses?! I didn't like the dance much at first but it has really grown on me over time. Also, apparently this song is a cover/remake?

6. Super - Seventeen - You know, I can't figure out why I love this video so much. Like it's super basic as a concept - just all of them and a whole heap of dancers in one scene. But it works. As soon as they revealed Woozi being held up like he's on a throne with his little smirk, I knew I was done. The dance is so fun and I never get tired of watching this one.

7. Daechwita - Agust D - It's hard to decide between this and Haegeum, but this is the one that starts the story and my Agust D obsession, so obviously I had to choose it. I love the concept and how he lays out the Agust D story in just one mv. Royal Gangster Yoongi is just hnnng. I love the power here.

8. God's Menu - Stray Kids - This one is just super fun. I love all the different outfits - and like, Han in the chef's outfit is top-tier Han, he looks so hot.

9. Shalala - Taeyong - This is one of the most fun music videos I've ever seen. I love all of the different versions of Taeyong and he's the only idol I've seen pull off that shade of lime-green hair. The macarena dance should not work at all and yet it does.

10. Hip - Mamamoo - They slaaayyy in this video. I'm so obsessed with Queen Hwasa literally spitting on her haters. Moonbyul is amazing as always, I love how they have her in various roles that are typically male "anything you can do, I can do better" vibes. Also I really want to dye my hair the same shade as Whee-In's in this video.

11. Don't Call Me - Shinee - I call this the 'weird hat video'. Their hats are ridiculous. And you can tell Minho is really feeling it, just look at the gif. I love it.

Hi there! Baby army here. Recruited by Jimin during his ON MV and can never JIM-OUT afterward.. I swear hes making me scratch my head. Since i gotta know him and like him, i cant live a day without checking his news from whichever platform.. youtube, twitter, tumbler, tiktok..

But love your blog about his dynamic within the maknae line. Can you also do one with the hyungs? I just feel sometimes hes the glue in the BTS group but maybe its just me projecting because hes my ultimate bias within the group.

And welcome to the world of being obsessed with all things Jimin. It's crazy. We’re crazy. And there's a lot of us out here. And “ON MV Jimin”... yes, yes, yes... body roll, runs his hand down his body, crotch grabbing, silver-haired, expletive deletive facial expression Jimin. Yes. What a fine Jimin that was. I can relate to total submission and complete obsession. Same, same. 

Jimin’s appeal is unexplainable. His gracefulness, the way he dances, he is the finest living sculpture and beautiful to watch in motion as well as mesmerizing in still photos. The man is just super photogenic from head to toe. His face is the most beautiful face I've ever seen. He’s a chameleon. He can look so young and with a change of makeup and hair, he looks like some mysteriously sensual creature of undetermined gender that gets under your skin and won't leave. His visuals just never quit. Oh, and he’s hot. I mean... how is this the same man in all of these images?

His personality...he’s complicated. He has a lot going on in that pretty head. Knows what he wants, sets goals, works hard, achieves them. Yet he always seems to be there for everyone. He tries to see situations from different points of view. He is keenly observant of the tiniest details. Which drives his desire to do take after take after take when shooting music videos and rehearsals for performances. 

Anyway. I already said most of that in another post.

To answer your question about doing a dynamic about Jimin and the hyung line... 

As far as Jimin being the "glue" of the group...I think he contributes a lot in the way of interpersonal relationships between all the members but I wouldn't say he's the center of it all. I am not sure if any of them fit that description. But if I were to pick someone who is the “glue” it would be our fearless leader, Kim Namjoon. Because he IS the designated leader and he's the one they look to for guidance when necessary. He’s been the one to rally them when they were bone-tired and worn raw. Could Jimin pick up the reins if necessary? I think he could, but I don’t think that’s where he wants to be. I think Hobi could be a great leader too. 

I think one thing that Jimin DOES bring to the table is his emotional quotient or emotional intelligence. People speak about it all the time. Jimin has the ability to understand and use emotions in a positive way.  He has great empathy. He’s not perfect, no one is, but he can see when others need that extra help over rough spots and is there to offer what he can. He’s great at communicating on an emotional level. 

Though all the members have a very close relationship, Jimin’s relationships with each of his hyungs might be like this:

Jimin and Joon: I think they connect on an emotional and intellectual level. I think Joon totally understands what motivates Jimin in his work. I think Jimin offers some emotionality to Joon’s outlook on life. I think they both like simple, uncomplicated things because they have so many complicated thoughts going on in their heads. 

Jimin and Yoongi: They adore and respect each other. Another thing is Jimin has a voice that Yoongi loves and Yoongi raps like Jimin wishes he could. They do act like very close siblings. Jimin’s voice has that poignancy to it, something that just pulls at your heartstrings. Yoongi says that Jimin’s voice is his favorite:

Jimin and Jin: Jimin being the older brother in his family, I think he revels being in the role of one of Jin’s younger brothers. Jin’s playful teasing and Jimin’s hugs just scream loving siblings to me. Jin has admitted he was just floating in life with the least ambitions but here’s Jimin to say “hyung is the best older hyung.” Family is family.

Jimin and Hobi: Best of friends. Ride or die. Period. I know people tout Jimin and Tae’s soulmates label but Hobi and Jimin are on a different level. Super tight relationship. Super supportive of each other. Being the main/lead dancers they take the group to that sky-high level that no other group can even dream of attaining. Sometimes the looks they give each other... Y’ALL NEED TO LET US IN! 

Jimin brings a lot to the BTS table. I have heard several of the others say that BTS isn’t BTS without Jimin. Of course BTS isn’t BTS without any of them. BTS is 7 and always will be. But Jimin is like icing on the cake, right? Extra creamy, extra rich, exotically colored and the best tasting. Okay that sounded x-rated so I will stop here.

Pairing: Kim Junseo x reader; Summary: Cupid was sick of doing it's job, how come everyone gets to be happy. Everyone but him. It would take an angel to make him believe, he too, was destined to find his perfect soul. A/N: This is clearly very inspired by newjeans latest mv, with the concept of cupid (or eros) falling in love with psyche. Obviously this is gonna be a little different but that's the base. I hope you enjoy it!!

Every day it was the same old routine. Following your next "victim" making them have great luck in finding a partner. Obviously cupid can only do so much, he brings people together but if you need couples therapy, it's not his problem.

It's rare when his arrows become nothing more than a future story for someone to tell their kids, but it could very much happen. If you don't cherish the love you get don't expect it to last forever.

And that's part of the reason why Junseo no longer finds joy in his daily quests. He won't lie the first few times it was as magical to him as it was to the parties involved. But after seeing it go perfectly fine just for someone to ruin it, it was frustrating to say the least.

He'd give anything to be in their spots, he wishes he could experience the so called "love at first sight", he wishes he'd go to sleep thinking about the one he loves and nothing else. All of this caused a sort of indifference towards all humans, how could a species be so self entitled, bragging about how much they evolved when they can't even listen to someone else's heart. Selfish pieces of flesh.

There he was, witnessing yet another breakup before his eyes. It was so common he thought he was getting used to it. But he can never get used to the feeling of disappointment and the hole it leaves on his chest.

It was clearly time to go pick another human in hopes they would be a little kinder than most. That's when he saw you sitting at a coffee shop, enjoying your sweet morning tea. A slight change for once, usually the prefered beverage is bitter black coffee, very reflective of some personalities. You were accompanied with a friend chatting about silly little things, another dissimilarity. Normally most people gossip or complain about every little thing. You intrigued him so he was for sure going to be your shadow for a while.

Once you were done with your errands for the day you decided to go home, taking a very curious boy with you. He knew this went beyond his obligations but you were mesmerizing, absolutely breathtaking. He had only heard of people like you in books and movies that previous patients spoke about. He never thought those were inspired by real people, but there you were proving him wrong.

Your nights consist of the same pattern of events, prepare dinner, shower, skin care and a nice movie to fall asleep to. Simple is the best. And Junseo couldn't agree more, he sat near the sink admiring every inch of your beauty, the way you were singing your lungs out while toning your face. He couldn't help but smile.

Mid movie your eyes had quit on you, succumbing to the tiredness. Slowly, as if you could wake up due to his action, he made his way to the side of the bed, wanting to be as close to you as possible.

I'm listening to: potatoi, toy.

I've been a big fan of John for a long time, really I could go on and on, so i'll let myself ramble a little. I remember when John was releasing music under 'obdnce' on soundcloud and listening to his 'Why Not?' EP on spotify, it was the first time I really started to appreciate instrumental music, and I started to focus on sounds a lot more. So from the get go, this album already holds a lot of meaning for me, it stands for a change of pace, and a change of attention. And so much has changed and adapted over the past few years, so little time, so many new experiences, new people, new feelings, attention. Yet still working hard each day, progressing and walking along our own paths.

So now we meet Potatoi, and his musical story of 'Toy'. The cute blue robot taking centre stage on the album cover, it feels sweet and ernest. It makes me think about how I show my feelings, wear my heart on my sleeve, have my head filled with doubt, and if other people see this? It feels cute and somewhat clumsy, it feels honest.

Track 1, Toy. makes me think of the style I had always loved, reminiscent of songs such as Rough Sketches '아무말' and 'Sunset Hills' - which I both love dearly. I will always enjoy a fun jazzy intro. And I love seeing the interconnected thoughts and the stories of artists over the years. I am curious about john, John Cha, obdnce, potatoi, growing as an artist, a creative person, and the changing expression and flow of words. Personally, as just a humble listener I feel like his music has flourished, and it is such a beautiful thing.

I have been listening to Image often. I remember the first time I listened, I was watching the MV, and reading the lyrics. I remember how it touched my heart, there was a sense of vulnerablity which struck me, and I felt like I saw myself, and every moment of the past colliding together. Image has such a beautiful melody, it's the sort of song that makes me feel like cherishing everything: everything about life, the dull everyday, the beautiful everyday. How does everything feel so present, and how does every step, each taken from hundreds of miles away seem to fall into a rhythm?

There's a drama I watched last year, that spoke of the book 'To Room Nineteen' which I have desperately been wanting to read. We have these things that we hold so dearly, and closely to us, our 'Room 19'. Do we share this with those we love? Will our protection be broken? If we open the door just to let a little light in, will everything suddenly flow out? So these questions have been on my mind for months, and I wonder each day, what is the worth of sharing things, and how each and every thing deserves nuance.

I think how the world gets tangled and twisted, running alongside itself, connecting people, words and feelings, is one of the most precious things. That is the basis of why I want to write about this album, how I feel, my words, and sharing thoughts with others.

I was really pleasantly surprised by 'Shade' I love songs that feel dreamy but have that underlying grit and darkness. I think of the phrase "there are two sides to every coin" (meaning, you can't have the good part of something without its bad). Where there is light, shining brightly and beautifully, there is shade and darkness. Where light could be shining brightly and beautifully, there is light that is blinding and suffocating. Where there is shade there is variety, shades of light and darkness merging together. "There are two sides to every coin" but is it ever that simple? That starkly black and white? Maybe life is not like a coin, but one of the dice with tens of sides, it gets tossed and turned, crashing on hard surfaces, and in the end, there are multiple sides facing the darkness, and multiple sides facing the light, all in different shades. That is what shade makes me think of, so often I wish for things to be simpler and complexity turns life into a painful, blinding haze, and so often I adore the complexity of life.

And so with the complexity of love, there is space for cuteness, purity and simplicity. 'Popsicle' seems to fulfill these. It makes my heart happy.I like the formation of the album, each song swims and flows into the next smoothly.

I love hearing how Potatoi reimagines 'Evening Glow' somehow when I listen I feel flooded with emotions in a way that is different to the wave to earth version. I think the way he sings the lyrics, I just.. it feels real, 'tender' and vulnerable..aaa really suddenly every bittersweet memory comes to me at once. I think that's it, that's how I feel about Potatoi- vulnerability.

Once again, feelings of love, loneliness and confusion run alongside each other, falling, fading and growing, and we are onto 'Vanish

'We' is such a beautiful word, we live our life surrounded by people, in busy cities, or small towns but to be truly part of something, to be part of 'We' is precious. Again our moments and days fade together, whether singing to the whole world, to one person, or to ourselves - there are times when things are connected and shared, beauty and darkness. There are times when the pain of joint memories and wishes are so prevelant in my life, that it feels sickening. Wishes fade and turn into things I want to hide. Sometimes I wish to be my own 'We'. To sooth my pain the way I try to sooth the pain of my loved ones. Whatever that 'We' is, it will always be important, and I wish to find a way to be the rest point, a person to cry to, and a person to lie on, for all people I love, myself included.

For me 'Plain life' plays off these feelings too.

It makes me sigh, because how can life feel so hauntingly and beautifully delicate. At the end of the day, we live our lives, and days pass and fade, memories grow and wither. But if tonight we just be, look up at the sky, share our worries, the things we lost, we can make room for the things that we can gain together, from this time.

And with that, I think my day has become more thoughtful, and I hope yours can too.

Heeseung || wheel of fortune, two of pentacles, ace of pentacles rx: Heeseung's the only one who's not quite sure yet… He just doesn't know what he would like to do on his own exactly, or if things would work out for him. It's not that he doesn't have options; he's just indecisive.

Jay || page of swords, queen of swords: Easy... rap - not a diss track (unlike many others we've had before lol), but moreso something along the lines of a solid mixtape where he can truly prove himself as a lyricist and as a rapper. SMTM came to mind, but it that case he'd only want to put more attention on himself as a rapper/get people talking/get people to acknowledge him as a "real" rapper, and not necessarily prove them to be better than the rest or win the whole damn thing (a Bobby or Zico type of thing, even tho Bobby won smtm3 - that's what I'm getting).

Jake || wheel of fortune, king of wands: Big brand deals, first and foremost. A solid solo career, in general. But, really, he just wants to give everything a try!

Sunghoon || page of pentacles, strength: This feels very much like a dance-related activity or even fitness-related. Dance classes? Mentoring on a survival show, maybe.

Sunoo || strength, page of pentacles: ?? Same as above, it seems… maybe they have been discussing it with each other already.

Jungwon || knight of cups, the star: A solo album or single, for sure. He wants to try being the star of the show, on his own, and to connect with the fans more personally. Heartfelt lyrics; an emotional performance; the most beautiful mv you've ever seen... he's thinking of it all.

Ni-ki || the fool, ace of cups: Acting, plain and simple lol. He wants to show a whole new side of himself; how expressive he can really be. Also!! Lee Youngji's DRUNK INTERVIEW came to mind, so maybe he wants to be a guest or have his own show of that kind someday? (he can't even drink yet, tho)

When My You came out I complained that it was too basic (though, tbf, Jungkook only wrote the lyrics and used the beat his company had given him for Army's birthday song, and I still cried watching the MV because it was so cute, and the song and Jungkook's vocals are so sweet), but I really like the song now. It's so relaxing, peaceful, and comforting. It's so pretty. When Jungkook starts singing in Korean I'm always like "Yeah, now that's better". t doesn't matter how simple the instrumental is when Jungkook fills it up with his voice. He layers songs with vocals, essentially writing them with his voice. It's genius and sounds beautiful, and makes any song 10 times more interesting. It's a shame he doesn't get credited on Spotify for it (he gets credited for the chorus). I say this all the time but his backup vocals are often the only thing differentiating the verses and choruses and adding progression to the song. Dynamite's last chorus literally sounds the same as the first two - Jungkook's key change and other adlibs are the only thing taking the song to a climax. And don't get me started on ON, Jungkook's back up vocals are vital to that song. Jungkook went crazy on ON. Some of Jungkook's absolute best adlibs are on that track. The thing about Jungkook's adlibs and harmonies is that they're not predictable or cliché. It's common to add high notes to the last chorus (UO: but I really love Twice's backing vocals in songs, I think they're some of the best in kpop, yet I know people often dislike their high notes). However, Jungkook is unpredictable. You know he will do his thing, but he never sounds like he's just flexing his vocals or going through the motions. His backing vocals are completely unique and fit their part of the song perfectly, sounding so natural. He rarely overpowers the lead vocals and never breaks the flow of the song - even though he often sings throughout the whole track. This is an aspect of singing that is particularly creative but singers don't get any credit for because they're not the producers or songwriters. I'm pretty sure that most of Jungkook's adlibs, harmonies, etc. are his own input. I've seen producers guide Jungkook when recording a song but I've never seen them tell him when to adlib. I literally say this all the time, but he does not get enough credit for his backing vocals. It's one of his strongest qualities as a singer and artist and sets him apart from anyone else.

Back to my original point, My You is reallyyyyy nice.

First of all I'm so proud of him 🥺 He's credited as lyricist and composer for this song I'm- 😭

Unfortunately I didn't like the song as much as I thought I would 😭 Jimin's part is really good though and it kind of feels like he's rapping 👀 The MV was very flashing but simple, and HE'S SO GORGEOUS IN IT. HIS WHITE OUTFIT AND EYESHADOW AND THE CLOSE UP SHOTS OF HIM. AKSJNFJDNSNS He looks SO GOOD. the white outfit is my favorite and I missed seeing him in eyeshadow so bad.

And him singing those high notes 🥺 I'm such a sucker for Jimin singing as high as he can but I'm also on the floor every time he deepens his voice especially when he growls like 😩😩🥵🥵 But his voice was amazing in this 🥺 I'm so proud of him 💞

“i don’t know what i should do, mark. i feel like everything i had planned was thrown out the window.” you groaned, throwing yourself onto your bed. 

mark, who was on the other end of the phone call, stayed silent for a moment, “maybe you can buy him something? he’s been talking about a new camera that’s caught his eye recently.” he suggested.

“he’s told me about that too but i’ve already checked, it’s out of stock in stores and it wouldn’t come in on time if i were to order it,” you sighed. “it’s in 2 days, mark. i need to think of something now.”

you were stressing. you and your boyfriend, jaemin’s 1 year anniversary was coming up and you had no idea how to fix this problem. originally, you had planned on surprising jaemin with a trip for just the two of you to a town you’ve been wanting to go to for awhile now. however, the one thing you were worried about happened. your flight got canceled and you learned that jaemin had to leave for his upcoming concert the day after your anniversary meaning that he wouldn’t have been able to go on the trip anyways. this was supposed to be your gift to him but now with everything canceled, you had nothing. 

“you can make him something,” mark said out of nowhere, you can imagine him shrugging as he suggested the idea, “that’s the easiest option.”

“what though…” you muttered under your breath. suddenly an idea popped in your head, you gasped, 

“what if i baked him a cake, do you think he’d like that?”

“he definitely would, y/n. especially if you’re the one baking it, he’d love it.” you smiled, feeling somewhat relieved that there was a solution after all, “he’d appreciate it y/n, i promise. you’re putting all the time and effort into this, there’s no way he’d hate it.”

“let’s just hope i don’t burn anything.” you laughed.

“have the fire department on speed dial… i’m serious.”

you waited til the day of the anniversary for you to start baking the cake. you wanted to make a heart shaped cake with white and pink frosting with the words “happy one year <3” on it. it was simple yet sweet. prior to this, you made sure jaemin was kept occupied while you baked the cake. the last thing you wanted was him coming over to whatever you had going on in the kitchen. luckily, mark had your back so he made sure he kept practice running longer than usual - which earned him many complaints from the other members. but hey, it works. 

as you stir the batter, you couldn’t help but reminisce about the memories you and jaemin shared the past year. they were nothing but special to you. each having its own meaning in your heart. even if it’s only been a year, it feels like you’ve known him forever. you loved this man with all your heart. there’s only many more years to come.

you smiled at the sight of the perfectly baked heart-shaped cake that sat in front of you. the sweet aroma of vanilla cake filled the entire house. the plan was going perfectly, all you had to do now was frost the cake and chill it for a while before jaemin came over. 

almost as if jaemin heard about your plan, your phone pinged indicating that he texted. the message read:

nana <3: hey beautiful, i’m stuck at practice because mark insists on perfecting the choreography for the show so i’m gonna be running an hour or two behind :( i’m sorry baby, i know it’s our one year today but i promise i’ll make it up to you. i love you so much.

your heart swelled at his message. you felt bad for having your day with him cut short but you wanted to make up for the canceled trip. even if it’s not much, you wanted to show him how much you loved him. you answered with:

my love <3: hi love, it’s okay i understand ! you have a show tomorrow of course you should focus on perfecting it. we have all the time in the world to make up for it. i’ll see you soon nana i love you so much

after sending the message, you quickly set your phone down and started frosting the cake. you had no time to waste.

after what felt like an eternity, you finished everything. with the cake placed safely in the fridge, you had a little time left to spare. you received a text from jaemin saying that he was finally on his way over. you decided to set up your kitchen island with candles and wine filled glasses to set the ambiance. when the time got closer, you took the cake out.

perfectly timed, jaemin knocks on the front door. running over to the door, you opened it revealing a tired yet relieved jaemin once he saw your gorgeous smile. “hi baby.” he greeted you by pulling you into his arms and planting a soft kiss on your lips. 

“hi love, come in.” you led him into your apartment but you stopped him from going further. he looked at you in confusion, “close your eyes, i have a surprise for you.” you giggled, grabbing his hands and placing them over his eyes.

“a surprise? what did you do?” he laughed, he kept his hands over his eyes.

“you’ll see, are they closed? you can’t peek.”

“i’m not. i can’t see a thing.” he assured.

“good,” you began to lead him towards the kitchen, “keep them closed.”

“what’s that smell? it smells really good.”

placing him in front of the island, you moved his hands from his eyes, ��ta-da~”

a surprised expression took over his face as he took in the sight in front of him, “baby,” he cooed, “you got us a cake?”

“i baked us a cake,” you smiled proudly, “i thought it’d be nice to make one rather than just buy one... do you like it?” you asked, slightly nervous.

looking at you, his eyes softened, “of course i like it y/n. if it came from you of course i’ll love it,” he patted your head and pulled you in for another kiss, “thank you, really.”

“i wanted to make it as special as i can even if it seems a bit simple,” you snuggled closer to his chest, 

“we were supposed to go on a trip but that didn’t really work out in my favor so i had to think of something else.” you sighed.

“Well, I think it worked out perfectly. we still get to celebrate our anniversary and that’s what matters. no matter what the plan was, i’ll still be very happy cause i get to spend some time with you, y/n.”

you pouted, “i love you jaemin.”

“i love you more, y/n.” 

“now,” you said, pulling away from him, “let’s get into this cake and wine, shall we?”

just as you were about to cut into the cake, jaemin’s hand rests on top of yours, you look at him confused, “what? i’m practicing for our wedding.” he shrugged, pushing the knife into the cake.

“smooth.” you laughed. as you plated the slices of cake, jaemin peppers kisses all of your face, neck and shoulders. “that tickles, jaemin.” you giggle, handing him his plate. 

before you take a bite, you raise your glasses and clink them together, “happy one year!”

Before we get into it...

...I have a bone to pick with Jimin.

I don’t understand what Jimin thinks he’s doing not putting Letter on Apple Music or Spotify. Like, why does he think that’s a good idea? Does anybody know? This song is so perfect - Jimin's lush vocals harmonizing with Jung Kook's is beautiful - Letter needs to be available on as many platforms as possible. See, these are the kind of choices the tannies make that just causes me to laugh because yeah these hidden songs are 'gifts to fans' but it's also a crime against all that is good and honest in this world to keep it off channels those fans will gladly pay for? The fact Ddaeng is still stuck in Soundcloud purgatory is reason enough to kidnap Bang PD's nephew and sell him to the mafia, far as I'm concerned. The only reasons I haven't done it yet because kidnapping is illegal in my country, the Cosa Nostra require a blood oath, and Jin wouldn't like delays to his game update.

Letter is Promise all grown up, a little wiser and more developed, and I hope in every subsequent album Jimin releases for the rest of his career, that there is a version of Promise, a song that feels like Jimin - comforting, easy, warm, simple, and beautiful. Listening to it I'm so thankful Jimin exists. (Yes Jimin, I'm that fan who is simply happy you're alive - Pixid reference, so for anyone who hasn't watched it yet I've linked it here).

It's a great thing Jimin has been so forthcoming in talking about the process and his reasons for making the album, the songs on it, as well as how he had key input on the choreography. I strongly suggest everyone watch his live (linked here - I should probably also mention the English subs aren't up yet, just FYI). Jimin has been very clear about what he's communicating in FACE so I won't tarry on it.

This is the best song on the album.

Alone

There are two reasons why SMF Pt 2 comes out on top over Alone though Alone in many ways is the superior song. (1) The production (including the use of autotune) in SMF Pt 2 is incredible, and (2) because Alone ends on too disturbing a note for me to dwell on, knowing that it has come from Jimin.

Everything about Alone is perfect. The way the song begins with piano, then guitar, and then drums. Jimin’s voice. That man’s voice seriously fucks with my head. It’s the way I feel every time Yoongi twitches his voice when he’s being particularly nasty. Or anytime I hear Joon’s adlibs in a song. Or what happens in my head every time Hoseok slathers his vocal inflections with grit. I don’t know if I’m making sense, but what I mean to say is that Jimin’s voice during the entire song feels like a gift. It draws you in. And then you hear what he’s singing about...

It’s heartbreaking.

I can’t abide the thought that this is something Jimin went through recently, and that I relate in a very personal way. The emotions expressed in Alone feel too raw, too scary, and too real, and while that could point to a worrying state of mind in its author, I think Jimin’s idiosyncratic bluntness and clarity of speech in Alone shows the state of someone who still reflects often, is self-aware and also resilient.

Still, it’s a sad song to hear, an even sadder one to sing, but it is one of the most powerful and beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.

Starting with the gag of him playing the Flea Waltz in the intro - the song the members have teased Jimin with repeatedly by saying it's the only song Jimin knows how to play on the piano - Jimin used that common (good-natured) taunt and then weaponized it in a song putting those who have crossed him in their place. It's clear by the second verse when Jimin raps that he's pushing himself to express what he means in as many ways as possible. He's challenging himself and sending a message, and that I can respect.

Anon in ask 1 who talked about the album showing the five stages of grief, I agree sort of. If we were to assign a response to each song, I'd say...

Like Crazy

This is my least favourite song on the album because it never really develops, but it's also not supposed to. Jimin has said he wanted to express a dreamlike state in Like Crazy, and he does that impeccably well. The song leans into its 80s groove, heavy padded synths, something reminiscent of if Foster The People and The Weeknd made a song together. The thing about dreamlike states is that they lull your mind, and one easy way to create that effect is repetition and monotony. Think about why someone trying to hypnotize someone else tries to keep their voice steady, calm, and monotone. So, many times listening to Like Crazy I wanted the song to go somewhere, to become fuller or less predictable, but that would kill the trance so it didn't. While it's not my preference, I can appreciate Jimin's commitment to the idea of the song.

It's a great track even then. I sometimes listen to it right after Big Man, Little Dignity by Paramore.

Speaking of Like Crazy, there's been much ado about about Jimin's sexuality, queer-coding, etc in the song and so Anon in ask 5, I see where you're coming from.

Jimin is queer. I don't know what else there is to say about it or why even the mere possibility of Jimin being queer should generate the amount of fuss/discourse it does. It's possible I'm wrong of course, but like you Anon I don't think I saw Jimin even stand straight once during the entire MV. There’s not a single straight thing about this guy.

For the sticklers, perhaps the more diplomatic way of saying it is, 'many of us strongly suspect Jimin is queer.'

Jimin seems very pleased with his first album and this is my favourite thing about the last few weeks. Watching him for the last nine years, it's gratifying to see how he has fully embraced himself, his limitations, his pride, his vices, his virtues... Jimin is a strong tenacious person and in making this album, he turned that intensity inwards, towards learning to love himself. The result is five great tracks, and I'm eager to see what more he will show us in the future.
