okay so its an AU of KH set in like. mostly the real world. theres witches and vampires and fairies (?? i need to figure out what theyre called) and werewolves but MOST of those arent important to the plot. its mostly the witch stuff. its about 2002 give or take and set in america™ but ive never been and i also wasnt alive in 2002 so take that as you will. i wanna achieve the vibes of old ffnet fics from that time but with a bit more...focus ??? and more modern understandings of the characters

twilight town is where its set, which is kinda a hub for a lot of the weird supernatural shit, but also really normal. kinda like salem in the monster high ghouls rule movie -- like, everyone knows a vampire or werewolf or whatever but nobody says anything, really. oh that might be a metaphor. whatever moving on. the main character is actually kairi !! its all from her perspective. shes 16 here. her sister is namine, who does correspondence schooling after an "incident" thats not really expanded upon, mostly just talked around -- theres a lot of talking around and not directly addressing stuff actually -- with her witch powers. she also does magic tutoring with aqua on some evenings, but aqua is a fairy (again idk what to call them. the supernatural shit all comes from the sims 3 if youre familiar), and witches and fairies are similar, but witches are distinguished by their use of "dark" magic as opposed to "light". aqua doesnt believe one can turn from a witch into a fairy, but also seems to try to be doing that to namine -- shes doing her best to try and guide her, but isnt yet able to understand that the path of the pure light (coughs) isnt always sustainable or achievable for everyone. shes doing what she thinks is right though. also aqua, terra, and ven all live together with eraqus who isnt dead (?) but there was also an unspeakable incident a few years ago with terra and eraqus and dark magic. terra and ven also know namine, even if she doesnt really leave the house because of the incident (alluding to how she was kinda a ghost girl in the mansion in kh2 prologue)

also another bit of backstory is that xion and axel died a year beforehand (in the last week of summer vacation) in a car accident after a terrible series of arguments with roxas. xions body was um. burned beyond recognition (this is IMPORTANT for later events i promise im not making a haha nobody remembers xion joke. i think the forgetting of xion is very very tragic as im afraid of being forgotten lol haha anyways) but either way they both died and roxas is trying to move on but its. difficult. also sora and roxas are twins, and ven and vanitas are their cousins, but V&V dont turn up all that much. i find sometimes people think, when writing AUs, that ventus is the one who wants to repair the relationship between the two but he really does not. he kinda wants to cut vanitas off and is actually kinda past arguing with him (in KH3, Vanitas says right before fading away, "Ventus, I DID decide who I am. You see?" Ven replies, "And what you are is darkness?" Vanitas agrees, saying "What I am is darkness." theres a beat, and then Ven kinda resigns saying. "...okay.") its VANITAS who wants to join with him. but then again, vanitas also kinda pulls apart the relationship too. its more complex that "ven is good so he wants to fix their relationship and vanitas is bad so he wants to destroy it." they want different things, things that are mutually exclusive !! anyways.

also kairi, again, our main POV character, is experiencing the distancing between her and riku and sora from growing up, as well as the expectations placed upon her (not specifically as a princess of heart, but similar, and also i think i tend to write about girls with a lot of expectations on their shoulders ???). shes afraid of this change, and wants to cling to what used to be, and so shes especially distanced herself from riku. riku wants things to be different, finding twilight town / destiny islands (which is very close, and where a lot of the characters live, but you have to take a train (the train to the beach) there) to be too small for him, wanting better things, so he both pushes and pulls at his relationship with sora and kairi, wanting to grow up faster, and not wanting to leave his friends behind, but also thinking hes outgrown them.

the start isnt much, just kairi, sora, selphie and tidus on the tram home from school, but theres a mirroring of the scene on the dock with kairi and sora, when selphie invites them to a bonfire on the beach for the first weekend of school, since itll get colder soon and this is their last chance as well as being a new beginning to the year. kairi says oh dw kidding, you call riku when we get home to invite him okay ? and then namine and all that magic is introduced too. a couple days later, kairi, roxas, riku, and sora are assigned a group project in woodshop, so they all go to kairis after school. this is when roxas meets namine for the first time in a while, finds out oh shit shes a witch, and they actually get on really well, so they start hanging out more in general.

the bonfire night has a lot of stuff to do with change and expectations, its not very fleshed out since it wasnt supposed to happen but selphie turned to me while i was like hm i need for them to chat about something and told me dw i got this and now i got like three side plots. anyways. because of this i have to write a bunch more scenes, most of which are dot points and nonsense currently, but the more important stuff is:

namine and roxas, become friends properly, and so they actually start a plan to bring xion and axel back to life with necromancy (as guided by a dark magic book that terra gave to namine, as he understands that darkness isnt always bad, but did caution her about it)

the way ive decided that necromancy works is that you need some sort of vessel, preferably the corpse of the person you wanna bring back. however, if using a different vessel in this case, a puppet thing for xion (since her body is a bit. well. worse for wear) its a bit more difficult. you need to inject memories into the vessel, and the more there is the easier it is the bring her back to life. memories are more accessible while sleeping (for science reasons, this is because we often encode memories into our long term memory when sleeping) and for kh reasons, well, you've seen chain of memories and melody of memory and kh2 and well. everything. anyways so namine decides the person that was fairly close to xion but not too close (like roxas, since hes helping with the plan) that is the easiest to steal memories from at night is naturally kairi, since she sleeps in the same house as her. also i forgot to mention -- namine mostly uses art materials as a focus for her magic, especially the more difficult stuff

cue a scene where kairi wakes up one night with namine standing over her, breaking a crayon and reciting a spell

so kairi starts to forget xion, and also because axel has been dead for a year, they need some memories of him too, so they steal those from kairi and roxas mostly

riku has also been roped into this plan, mostly because namine and roxas need someone else to dig up a grave with them, and he owes namine and xion, even if him and roxas dont really get on. they steal some memories from him as well

like i said theres a LOT of stuff happening with kairi in the foreground so this stuff is slower and more in the background, idk if this will still be a oneshot by the time im done

the day before halloween (since its american, i think i got my school timings right) riku, sora and kairi have a bit of an argument, mostly about riku growing up too fast, think like KH1 riku (its an AU i can mix different plot lines okay

HALLOWEEN NIGHT: the climax of all the supernatural bullshit

kairi notices namine isnt home, hasnt left a note, doesnt have a cell phone, which is worrying for a girl who has like 2 friends and mostly stays at home, so she phones sora, whos like huh yeah roxas is also not at home. weird. maybe theyre together ??? or maybe something bad has happened. shit

so they meet up and go like yeah theyve both been acting kinda weird recently. lets go look for them, so they go to the usual spot of hayner pence and olette, they go to the tower, they go to all the shops, they go to where aqua lives, they go a lot of places, its also a bit hard to check since theres so many trick or treaters around. sora calls riku (payphone, again, this is early 2000s or maybe earlier even idk it just makes sense to call on a payphone in this setting okay.) and he doesnt answer, but maybe hes just out, still weird though. EVENTUALLY, one of their friends is like uh yeah idk but they might have gone to the graveyard, saw them near there and it is like, halloween, so maybe thats why ???

i think that movie about the dogs. spooky buddies. might have influenced this. what the fuck. also bunks but thats a zombie movie. i dont watch a lot of movies i saw those both like ten years ago at the most recent

also ive been writing this post for like 40 minutes. WHAT.

anyways they go to the graveyard, its dark, they have to crawl over the fence and they go. hm. well idk if namine and roxas would have gotten over this fence by themselves since namine doesnt do sports or anything like kairi does...maybe theyre not here...?

so then they see namine and riku flicking watercolour paint onto axels dead body and roxas pouring a salt circle around a wooden puppet dressed in a costume from spirit halloween which is obviously like. what the fuck is happening here

kairi expresses, hey, what the fuck are you doing and namine is like im using watercolour since its natural -- oil paint wouldve been better, but im all out and acrylic isnt good for spells--- oh wait. yeah necromancy

after a bit more discussion of "what is happening and how did this happen ???" which explains all the weird shit theyve been doing in the background, kairi kinda argues with roxas, saying okay yeah i get what youre doing but you didnt have to use namine (think of DiZ and marluxia and larxene, probably the causes of the previous incident), what the fuck. i often think about that bit where kairi says to sora, "let me keep you safe" -- she does want to protect people, and is upset in KH2 when she cant remember sora at all, so i think those two bits fuelled this desire, to keep her sister (in this AU) safe, just as she keeps namines heart safe in KH2 & KH3, even if she wants to let namine be her own person.

kairi just wants things to go back to how they used to be, when she didnt have to worry about this and there wasnt any dangerous magic (again, think KH1 kairi here), but then roxas is like. yeah. same i also want things to go back to how they used to be, when my friends were yknow, alive

kairi concedes here, seeing how that change isnt necessarily bad, actually quite good; change is a part of life, but if youre unhappy it might be worth trying to get things back to how they used to be, but sometimes you need to go with the change and grow up, as you cant stay in the past forever

after a bit more stuff. axel and xion wake up yayyyyy. the spell mostly went as planned, but kairi cant quite remember xion still. namine says she'll do her best to fix the memories of those that she took and yayyyy maybe ill do more about like. the aftermath of coming back to life from xion & axels POV but either way this fic went from fun halloween idea ??? to character study about growing up and change and expectations about what people want you to be versus who you are. IVE BEEN WRITING FOR AN HOUR FUCK I HAVE TO STUDY

Did KHUX retcon what Vanitas is? because I thought he was the dark part of Ven but people have been telling me he isn't and I'm a bit confused on what Vanitas is now

hmmm, not necessarily. sorry for answering this ask before three others you know how brainworms work

youre going to get people who have different thoughts about this, and different conclusions drawn, but the important thing to remember is we do not have ANY conclusions that are solid. We are missing information. The… conclusions we think we’re drawing, the people making them are kinda in two categories? The ones who believe Nomura is retconning by nixing information, and the ones who think Nomura is retconning by mixing information together. I’m in the second category! A lot of people take Vanitas’ remind/khux? existence to mean he was never a part of Ven actually, and he’s just the piece of darkness ven absorbed. Therefore, upon reintegration into Ven’s heart, he remembers what he is and sets himself up to be hivemind goo darkness in the future. I would not blame them because that’s what it looks like

I like vanitas a lot though and I like to take as much information as I currently have and try to smash it into a coherent piece without destroying any of it, if possible. Idk if I’m right, but I pretend I am lol

so! My conclusion and the conclusion a lot of people aside from me have drawn first is that Vanitas is a darkness smoothie made out of khux darkness, ven’s darkness, and a piece of ven’s heart he’s made into his own. The khux Darkness that got absorbed was completely integrated into Ven, mingling with his own regular darkness but retaining that deep memory of being part of an ancient whole. Once Ven’s heart got broken, all of that darkness was bonded to the piece of his heart that broke off, creating A Person! A person who still feels like Ventus, but… definitely isn’t, and doesn’t have enough of a heart to stop this primordial piece of him from spawning monsters in reaction to the emotions it’s not supposed to have. this kind of sets him up to make a choice in the future, wether or not he’ll side with the Darkness he’s made of or the heart he’s harboring.

I take my sources from a couple places! Here’s one: Vanitas still thinks of Ven as part of him, even in Re:Mind (His death quote kills me its “I need… the rest of me…”). This could also point to the other interpretation where ven’s just been holding on to a little piece of that primordial darkness for funsies and that’s what Sora finds. He’s just finding this information out himself, he doesn’t KNOW much, he knows about as much as we do! I think he’s self-diagnosing as Darkness. Secondly the character files, which were written by a game scenario writer that Nomura works with and says This

and I’m pulling my hair out because THE MAJORITY OF INFORMATION ABOUT HIM IS NOT IN THE GAMES. and the information that isnt in the games stays consistent every time it’s written about, even from the bbs novel. I would LIKE to canonize them to everyone I WOULD but this is why people say that Vanitas is just that Darkness from khux it’s because the novels and character files wink at us and drive me up a wall

Uuh... for the headcanon thingie... maybe vanitas??

Headcanon A (realistic): the unversed can come from any emotion as “a strong output of emotion” is their only prerequisite, vanitas just only knows negativity/only knows how to use negativity to his advantage. if he were to experience great joy or practiced from other people’s emotions, the unversed would still appear but acknowledging that he can be happy is hard

Headcanon B (changing to indulgent bc I don’t usually have funny headcanons): vanitas hates people but loves animals. he sees someone bullying a cat in twilight town and almost murders them in the street before xion gets him (and roxas, who was right there with him)

Headcanon C (heart-crushing and awful but fun to inflict on friends): vanitas can feel sora and ven’s emotions (ven’s part being canon, sora’s not). because of this, he is constantly at war with himself over feeling emotions that aren’t his. he hates how love happiness friendship feel, they feel disgusting because those aren’t his emotions. like baby sora said “it’s like something’s squeezing me inside” for vanitas except it’s extremely painful because they’re so strong, they’re not his emotions and therefore he doesn’t have to capacity to handle them because they don’t come from him, and they’re positive which isn’t something he’s used to. he practically had a heart attack when ven reunited with terra and aqua and thought he was dying because it was so powerful. however, somehow sora’s emotions are less unbearable than ven’s because he is very closely tied to darkness. he’s surprised no one else realizes just how much darkness sora has in him, not even sora himself.

Headcanon D (unrealistic; I recognize canon’s decision but given that it’s a stupid ass decision I’ve elected to ignore it): there are two vanitas. vanitas managed to make his way into ven and therefore into Sora’s heart and is alive. he got released in monstropolis and isnt the same time traveled vanitas from the graveyard.

Yo I've been really out of the loop with KH stuff but I took a look at some of the official localizations cause I was curious about the changes and NOW I'm curious if the community like raised an eyebrow at all at the whole 'world where unversed come from thing'??? The wording about it on Terra and Vanitas' files still make me go?? I wanna know if the theory people closed in on that cause I only barely speculate and I'm lowkey losing my mind that it wasn't a mistranslation actually

SECONDLY this is actually interesting to me and despite following quite a few kh theorists i have Not seen anyone even blink at this at all - tho i hadnt looked on twitter much when they first came out so i could be wrong. Also wanna mention that i never actually read most of the chara files before the official translation (i think i read Repliku, Riku n Demyx n just. Never went to the rest) so by ur wording that was a thing even before this stuff was released??? How am i just now finding this out ,, BUT YEAH GETTING TO THE STUFF IN THE CHARACTER FILES BC IM VERY INTRIGUED.. i'll include whatever may or may not be relevant to this topic

And from Vanitas': "Unversed--meaning ones who aren't well versed with life. What the heck does that actually mean? . . . This monster was both me and not me. . . I dont need to know which is light and which is darkness. Not just light, not just darkness. . . I came from the void and am returning to it. What's the void? It's neither darkness nor light, more like an abyss. Good night, Ventus."

... good god is there a lot to unpack here. Like a Lot a lot. Im gonna try to stay on topic here but no guarentees bc we are talking about Terra and Vanitas and the biggest coolest parallel tie thing that i never even thought about before, both between them and between two kh monsters that i didnt think would be linked and the relationships between different worlds and realms and nmmmmmmmm yeah im just gonna write down every observation i have from this sorry in advance for length

Ok. The most obvious connection between the two is both mentioning the void. This, according to what u pointed out and being backed up by Terra's observation, is or is similar to the world where Unversed originate, or where they reside. Now at first I thought that would be a weird thought bc like, dont the Unversed come from Vanitas?? But Vanitas talks about how he also came from that void, so the idea of it being the world of Unversed isnt out of the picture. But also, Vanitas is supposed to come from Darkness, right? Did Darkness come from this void as well? Or is it the void itself? But that would be weird, because the void isnt darkness nor light - and they make a point to say that mulitple times, which is interesting. What the fuck even is this void?

Thing is, the way they - especially Terra - talk about it (and bc i recently played thru kh2's ending again as if id somehow known it would come in handy) reminded me of this:

A place of neither dark nor light, an abyss, where emotions never existed, with creatures that embody nothingness. Plus the fact that Terra has ties to Xemnas, whom you fight here (was Terra here too, somewhere?). Theres gotta be a connection. I have no doubts about this. My only question would be just.. why?? With Unversed being the literal embodiments of emotions while Nobodies completely lack those, its kind of weird to think that their origins might be connected in some way. Or maybe not their origins, but theres.. something. We think of Heartless and Nobodies as counterparts, but Unversed might have bigger a place in there than we know. I might even argue that Nobodies and Unversed have a more distinct tie than the previous duo according to these files. Whether theyre also counterparts, polar opposites, or possibly even of similar nature..

Oh, on a related note, I included Vanitas' "both me and not me" quote for a number of reasons - one being the above. Im not saying the Unversed and Nobodies are actually the same thing (probably. Probably) but the way Terra described emotions turning into nothingness which then attacked him, adding on Unversed being described as those who arent well versed with life (which even Vanitas doesnt really understand, and those things come from him) like. Theres something here. The other reason i included the quote was i think it actually seems like a cool parallel to Terra, Xemnas, and Xehanort, which felt relevant enough to add here

Also noting the reason for why i included Vanitas' last line there, i couldnt help but be reminded of something from re:com:

I also think its interesting that Terra knows of the sleeping worlds, which makes me wonder if he ever had experience with them since hes aware that he isnt among those (outside of what he may know/remember from Xemnas..? Im not sure how strong their connection is)

But back to the Unversed world itself, why does Vanitas say hes going back to a place without darkness or light when hes supposed to Be Darkness (or part of it, at least)? Thats like one of the main things thats really getting me here. Is the void, the world of nothingness, where everything came from or came to be? Cuz if THE Darkness came from the place, its gotta go way back.

Ohhhhhh no im thinking way too much abt this but. A world of nothingness. It shouldnt exist, but it does. Yknow what else shouldnt and technically doesnt exist but somehow also does? Unreality. Fiction. Where MoM, who has been at war with Darkness (who has relation to Vanitas) for the past fuck knows how many centuries, was last seen. (Wheres that one pic of the dude with the corkboard going nuts thats exactly what i feel like rn.)

The void is related to nothingness, but are those related to the worlds of fiction? Do light and dark exist in unreality? If so, do they have the same relationship as within reality? Is any of this stuff related? I dont fucking know!!!!!!!!! Im going to lay facedown on my bed and contemplate this for the rest of my life

i dont know if i’ll ever get around to writing it, but ive got a basic layout for a post kh3 Vanitas recovery fic oof

Vanitas wakes up somewhere dark. At first he thinks it’s the realm of darkness, but it’s not. It’s Atlantis.

The Atlanteans are wary of Vanitas, which he is used to, and for a while they leave him alone and he leaves them alone.

Eventually, Milo and crew show up. Things are mostly the same as in the movie, but Kida is also like “oh yeah we also have that guy. not sure what his deal is but he stays over there”

Milo assumes that Vanitas is another anthropologist who is trying to study Atlantean culture, but that assumption falls apart pretty quickly, because Vanitas is a lone child and also knows jack shit about things like, say, manners

“Why are you here, then?” “How am I supposed to know?”

Milo, being Milo, takes a genuine interest in Vanitas’ wellbeing, which is met with confusion, distrust, and (eventually) a sort of grudging respect. Vanitas thinks Milo is like Sora but less annoying, maybe

Vanitas ends up being kind of integrated into the goings on for a hot minute

the plot twist(tm) of the movie Occurs

*Vanitas voice* “hey hold on a fucking moment. im the only one allowed to ruin anything for anyone, ever”

so he participates in solving the problem because he’s offended, and definitely not because he cares about this place and these people (just ask)

Vanitas: “what is that. can i eat it” Kida: “no and also what the fuck dude” Vanitas, shrugging: “you never know”

so he uses his keyblade to close it, because that’s what you do

Kida: “how are you a keyblade dude and you dont know what a world keyhole is” Vanitas: “it all started on the day of my birth--” Kida: “ok shit dude i didnt ask for your life story” Vanitas: “are you sure? its not that long”

Vanitas is getting a bit of Atlantis cabin fever tho so Kida is like “ok. we have just enough yeet juice to send you to a random other world even though you just closed the keyhole” and Vanitas is like “thats awfully convenient why dont you use it on someone you care about” and Kida is like “you are already from another world and kinda need to fuck off” and Vanitas is like “fair ok”

so they do

and he goes somewhere else

the yeet juice probably has something akin to donalds magic and also Vanitas is not a very solid fellow so he gets form/outfit changes based on the world hes in because thats always very fun and neat

he probably goes to the aristocats because thatd be fuckin hilarious

Vanitas: “why the hell am i a cat” Roquefort: “hey! mind your fucking language!!”

he might pick up some traveling buddies but he might not

and a big chunk of the fic is kinda like that until he eventually yeets to wherever Soras at at this point. for the sake of argument its with twewy gang

Sora: “oh shit!!!! vanitas!!!!!!!!” Vanitas: “oh shit!!!! sora !!!!!!!!” everyone around them: “oh neat i didnt know this dude had a twin brother”

Joshua: “what the fuck? is this allowed? is that-- is that allowed?” Neku: “i thought it was your job to know that” Joshua: “whos been feeding this man ancient yeet juice??”

Vanitas: “i only had one serving” Joshua: “oh no age increases the potency of ancient yeet juice after effects”

eventually the two of them calm down and sora realizes vanitas is over all a lot calmer

Vanitas gives a brief (and probably inadequate) recap of what he’s been up to which prompts Sora to do the same but with more detail

Joshua: “I hate to interrupt this touching reunion, but there are rules here and Vanitas can’t stay for very long without violating them.” Vanitas: “What the hell are you talking about?” Joshua: “I’m afraid it’s time for you to go.”

Joshua yeets Vanitas to the only kh character he knows who is not Sora (it’s Riku)

Riku: “Emo Sora???” Vanitas: “One, my name is Vanitas. Two, I’m goth.”

Xion, in the background: “just accept that you’re emo!!” Vanitas: “I no longer completely relate to evanescence music, I’m goth.”

Everyone: “oh shit he’s goth now”

Vanitas tells everyone what happened when he saw Sora

So I have had alot of people ask why I, not only really like Vanitas, but will defend him. Not just online but also in real life. When I explain, alot of people usually understand and think just like me about him when they get the whole story. In order for people to see where I'm coming from I'm writing this so that others can see where alot of Vanitas fans or "Vanitas's Protections Squad" are coming from when they talk about him and wanted him to have a redeemed arc. Now I still stand by my original post about "respecting Vanitas since he decided to stay in the dark because it makes him seen as a decisive "bad guy". But at the same token, I wished he still had been redeemed and given happiness from all the bullshit that was thrown at him and he was forced to go through. And yes he did go through a lot of shit so shut the fuck up about him being a 2D bad guy. I am not saying that Vanitas was a good guy... nor was he a bad guy. What he did was wrong and he shouldn't get a free pass just like in real life someone who fucked up should also be held accountable for the shit they did. But in the same breath he should be allowed to be redeemed. He should have the same opportunity just like Riku did. Now the reason why I love this guy? He reminds me of myself before I got to see that I need to save myself and that I am worth being saved. And I didnt see that until 2 or 3 years ago. Backstory of the bare minimal: my dad wasn’t the best "father" figure. I was used multiple times by him and his 2wife for the years I lived with him. From the age 8 to the age of 13 I was bombarded with the words of "You can be better just like your sister and step brother". "If you cant do [thing] then you're useless to your future husband". "You're lying. Your siblings said that it happened this way". "If you pushed yourself like I did then you wouldnt be making 79s." "[Step brother] is watching the kids so you do the chores." "Well why isnt [sister] helping?" "DONT TALK BACK TO ME! GO TO YOUR ROOM!" "You dont know how to do your own laundry (even though I never showed you how?)? GO TO YOUR ROOM!" "DID YOU LIE TO ME!? GO TO YOUR ROOM." "You started a fight with [what ever kids name]? Go to your room!" "But he touched me in a place that mom said no one was allowed!" "No boy is thinking about that at the age of 12! Now write me 750 sentences saying 'I will not talk back'." And I know this isn't alot of things to you see as abuse. You'll probably say "This is the parental responsibility thing. This isn’t abuse! This is nothing to the other stuff that real abused people deal with". And you're right. My abuse isn’t anything compared to the horror stories being told and shown. But that doesn’t mean I wasn’t abused. I wasn’t allowed to leave my room. I never got to play outside during that entire time. And when I was bored and reading, drawling, exercising, then my dad would come in, back hand me until I bleed, threw anything I owned against the wall, and took away anything that you could call "personal". And when there was nothing left? He took my door. He took the only communication to my mother. By the time I was 12 I was suicidal. I had given up on finding myself. I was an empty shell. Until my father decided to kick me out without warning that day and I had to take everything I own (my clothes and shoes) and take them. After my mom had rang the bell and I asked why she was here. Now imagine, if you made it here this far, you have just been born into a unknown world in the most brutal and painful way. You feel broken and off. Weak and seeping with the dark as you try to stay sane enough against the shadows whispering in your head. You see your body, broken but still alive and you feel rage. Rage because this wouldn’t have happened if you were stronger. If you were faster you wouldn’t be broken into two parts. And so you tell your "Master" to take your body/lighter half away or you would kill them. And ruining the plan that your Master made on the fly. So you're left alone. In a desolate world surrounded by dead keyblade weilders. Some of which you know are old friends because you still hold the memories. Why? Because you have the "heart", the mind of your original person. You are an 11-year-old that's truly just a babe left alone to your own devices. You remember how to live but realize that your practically immortal. Which you would think be awesome but no. It's not. But the thing is: you aren’t just sitting there and contemplating life. You are suffering. Your emotions run wild and you try to fight the pain that courses through you. Everytime you push the anger, fear, pain, emptiness, and every negative emotion you have constantly, away you make these things called "Unverse". The pain and negativity fades to nothing but, as the fog clears from your mind,  you see these and another emotion welds up in you. Embarrassment. So you take your keyblade, get off the ground, and attack them. Why? Because now everyone can see your emotions. They scatter in fear as you destroy them and when they disappear? The negativity comes back. 10xs stronger than when you pushed them away. And then you feel angry. Angry that you cant control this. Angry that these are your weakness. Angry that your Master still hasn’t come back from doing whatever he is doing with Ventus as you fight and fight and fight. You keep fighting. You do it in the blazing sun. In the blistering heat. In the choking dust. You fight until you fall. You fight until you are just twitching. You fight until you pass out. You wake up and see them again. But everytime you destroy one it comes right back. Over and over and over again. For years you continuously fight. Not stopping until you cant anymore only to wake up and do it all over again. And when I mean by years I don’t mean "It’ll feel like years". No I mean for the first 3 years of your entire pathetic existence all you do is fight, pass out, fight some more. After a while your Master shows up! But all he does is stares. He watches you; all for his plan. He sends Heartless. He sends random attacks. All during which you fighting your own emotions. Falling down in pain every time until you finally start to get use to the suffering. And then, after those goddamn three years, your Master comes again. Only this time, he comes with salvation. Your own personal Tourniquet. "If you want to be whole again and stop the pain, you must forge the X-Blade with you lighter half. Only then will the suffering end". After 3 years, you finally have a purpose. You finally can be useful. And all you have to do is find your lighter self, fight him enough and then become one. Because if you are in so much pain. Then he should be too. So you follow the directions that your Master tells you until you come to a world with a castle. And its peaceful. It has no Unverse. There's grass and flowers and life. Not one shadow of a Heartless. Darkness does not exist here. It's not welcome. It's a stark contrast from the world that you lived in. It makes you angry, viscous, violent, and, over all, betrayed. Here you are hurting day in and day out. Suffering for living. For being an abomination just like your other half. But yet, he isn't feeling even an ounce of your suffering. That's when you realize that it's not fair.

That while you were being shunned. Your "better" half was being praised. While you fought, he was getting fancy dinners. While you bled, he got hugs and kisses. While you were told "don’t stop fighting", he was told "take it easy Ven". While you were being called an abomination, he was being praised as an angel. All because hes the light even though you two were the same thing. And what makes it worse? Is the fact that he doesn't know who you are. So then you look at the choices laid out before you and only really see one. Because who could ever love a monster like you? You plan. You scheme. You send Unverse upon Unverse at Ventus to get him stronger. You taunt him and the ones around him. You let the anger flow and become essential to existing.

When the final fight is here your ready. The pain will stop. You can be whole again. But everything fails. You fall apart in the dark. Lost in the dark. Reaching out from the dark. Watching in pain, betrayal, hurt, need as your other half fades away into light. You feel useless as the last thing you see is the content smile on the blonde"s lips. And you finally come back after years again. Ready to take your vengeance one the one who hurt you the most: Ventus. Only to find out hes trapped safely inside a wimpy boy, barely older than you. Even after "death" he still lives comfortably. You realize in the end: hes doesn’t understand. He never will. And so you chose the dark. Because that's who you are. That's all you ever will be. The light cant understand the dark.

"Part one: “Aqua is strong.” Well, congrats, you actually just mentioned something nearly every character in KH is. You know who else is strong? Literally every keyblade wielder. Saix. Vanitas. Eraqus. Braig. Xehanort. Physical strength means literally nothing" congrats on being an idiot and taking that as physical strange when no one fucking does that 👍🏻

Aqua was needed to wake Ven up in KHIII, but Kairi was necessary for Sora to be saved in that very same game???" no one could do what aqua did, meanwhile the only thing kairi does on the entire game and on the whole saga was something she didnt get by trainning or effort

To #1: well you certainly can’t be thinking she’s emotionally strong, because that would be even stupider than some of the other crap you forced me to read tonight. Aqua doubts her friends 24/7 both in the games and in the novels, she never thinks for herself, always follows the course Eraqus set for her, falls very quickly to darkness, and never faces off against something she believes she can’t beat. There’s literally nothing emotionally strong about her, so so sorry; I thought you stans meant physically powerful, which is the only strength she is shown to perhaps possess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

To #2: ‘no one could do what Aqua did’ you’re right; no other character demeans their friends the way aqua does. touché.

To #3: how silly of me to relate to a character; that’s never happened before and isn’t the entire point of characters in stories. Who would relate to a character? Ridiculous. Absurd. Don’t I know they’re not real? My god; how could I have been so blind. You have shown me the light. Fake? Character? What? Crazy. Mind: blown.  I would never have known if not for you. Wow. The world was an illusion, but now I see.

No Words Needed

There isnt much of an excuse for this other then im multishipper trash and i actually had time to type this out today (Considering ive been sick and so busy lately.) so uh.....i hope you enjoy!

"Trust me, your going to look great! There isn't anyone better then old Iggy here when it comes to adjusting stuff like this!"

"Hardly. I only know a few things. Hardly anything worth making such a fanfare about."

Riku couldn't help but chuckle softly as he stood a few steps away, arms crossed over his chest as Vanitas stood awkwardly, nervously while a man with dirty blonde hair and glasses worked on sewing and adjusting the skirt around Vanitas' waist. The skirt was simple, it was one those ones with a solid black layer of smooth cloth under it with a semi-see through layer over it. It was short on the front it ended just above his kneecaps, while the back part of it was long and ended just above his ankles. He had brought Vanitas here to Traverse Town to mainly show him around, a sort of reward for doing as well as he had been during his recovery period. That and he wanted the boy to see the worlds in a different way then how he saw them so long ago.

And it was working! Vanitas was in awe at just how big this world actually was. Especially when they traveled to the more festive parts of the town. It was there did Riku allow himself to be pulled and dragged wherever it was Vanitas' wanted to go and look at. Which is how they ended up in this little thrift shop, Vanitas was going to run past it but came to a dead stop before pressing his face against the glass and stared at something. At first Riku was a little concerned, the raven didn't even flinch when he called his name, but when he reached out to put his hand on his shoulder, he found himself being dragged into store and right over to where the skirt was. He believed that Vanitas was going to ask him what it was but he was shocked when Vanitas pointed at it and looked up at him.

"I want this."

Riku was taken aback by the confident statement, his head was spinning. Typically...boys didn't wear skirts, or at least the annoying kind of boys who believed that boys shouldn't wear skirts thought that. He looked at the raven who seemed to be waiting for some kind of answer. At least Vanitas was a patient person, he could wait for hours for a response if not days. Riku sighed, rubbing the back of his head before smiling at him. "Let's try it on first, see if it fits." Riku swore he was blinded by just how brightly Vanitas had smiled the second he said for him to try it on. Which is how they found themselves in the current situation, the skirt was big on his slim frame and had spent a while looking for another one that might fit. Though Vanitas did an amazing job at not showing it; Riku knew he was a bit sad that it didn't fit him.

That's when a blonde haired employee of the shop had walked over, asking of they needed anything. And suddenly, Vanitas was a mute. He wasn't quite used to talking to other people, not like Riku spoke a whole bunch either but he did now that Vanitas was around and needed time to get used to this new life style. Riku had smiled at Vanitas' sudden shyness and had explained about the skirt, and sadly they didn't have any other ones, however the blonde haired male who went by Prompto said there was a easy fix to the problem. That's when they met Iggy, or ignis as that was his actual name. The man had easily accepted to helping them mend the skirt to the appropriate size. Which is how Vanitas found himself standing so awkwardly and nervously as Ignis worked on fixing the skirt.

"So, yeah that's what happened to our home world. We woke up here and decided to set up a shop. No sense in crying about it, you know?"

Riku nodded at Prompto's words. Yes he could definitely agree with that. After hearing about their home world and what they had gone through Riku admired their ability to keep pushing forward and staying as close as they were despite everything. He looked at Vanitas who seemed to be fixated on whatever Ignis was doing, he was a curious boy by nature, much like Sora. And he soaked up information like a sponge, Vanitas was a fast learner.

"So, what's his story?" The blonde asked, which got Riku to tense up instantly.

It's not that he didn't trust the other male, it's just that... Vanitas' story was complicated and it wasn't Riku's place to tell it either. Considering the other boy was so private about certain aspects and parts of past and himself in general. The silver haired male sighed heavily as he rubbed the back of his neck. "He's just....he's been through a lot. Didn't have any good things in his life. So I brought him to...to relax and enjoy the night. So when he said he wanted that...how could I say no?"

"Especially to him?"

"Especially to him." Riku said without missing a beat, which one eye noticed a crimson blush dusted his cheeks and that got a laugh from the taller male next to him. "I-i just- he deserves a good life now after what he's been though...a normal life."

Prompto nodded at his words as he watched Ignis stand up and walk around the raven, inspecting his work. "Yeah, I get ya. Ignis had one hell of a ride back on our home world. See those scars on his face? Those were from a powerful magic and half of the price he paid to use it to keep Noct safe."

"What was the other half of it?" Riku asked nervously, those burn scars on Ignis' face looked wicked, it had to be painful he was absolutely sure of it. When he looked at the blonde he was met with a bittersweet expression.

"His sight. He was blind before our world was swallowed up by the darkness. It was here that he somehow got it back."

At that Riku was shocked as he turned to look back at him and Vanitas. They seemed just about done and the golden eyed male looked absolutely thrilled, giddy even. When those honey gold eyes locked gazes with him, Riku couldn't fight back the fond smile he sent him, which got him a blush and a shy smile back. Vanitas was going to be the death of him, and Riku oddly enough didn't seem to mind that at all. He only laughed as he walked over with Prompto.

"Looks great! Told ya Iggy was good at this kind of thing."

"Again, hardly worth the fanfare." He responded with as he helped the raven step down from the small circle stage like platform he was on. "Does it feel alright? Not to tight I hope?"

"Nope, it's perfect, thank you."

Riku was shocked by how quickly, confidently and easily Vanitas had responded to the question. The other two seemed completely unfazed by this and only smiled at his words and nodded. It seemed they to had experience in dealing with someone who was a bit shy when it came to social interactions. Riku smiled as he tilted his head with the skirt, Vanitas wore a tight, sleeveless black shirt and he had on a purple and black plaided dress shirt over it. Though while ignis was doing the adjustments Riku was now holding onto the said dress shirt. Though, Riku was sure he didn't need it, the outfit looked really good without it. "It looks good on you, Van," he said, turning to face Prompto and Ignis now. "How much do i-"

"It's on the house, call it a gift for new friends." A new voice interrupted. Riku would never openly admit that he was startled, Prompto and Ignis moved aside so a black haired and blue eyed male could stand between them now. He looked completely relaxed, maybe a little to relaxed. But he pushed that thought for the moment to the back of his mind when a much bigger man walked in and stood behind the three. He felt himself tense up at the sight of him and okay he felt a bit bad for reaching behind him to grab Vanitas' wrist and tug him a bit closer. Though the blue eyed male laughed at this. "Don't worry about Gladio here, he looks big and scary but he's just fat-"

"Aye! Watch it you little-"

"Boys, no rough housing in the shop." Ignis scolded instantly. This got Prompto to laugh, and that's when it clicked to Riku so those were his friends, he and told him about them while they chatted away as Ignis got the skirt squared away. He relaxed, sliding his hand into Vanitas' for a moment, he squeezed his hands as if to make sure that the raven was indeed still there.

"Right, sorry. Natural reaction. I'm Riku, and this is Vanitas. Are you sure? I mean i can easily pay for it." The silver haired male explained, looking a bit worried about getting that skirt free of charge. He watched as Noctis chuckled and gave him a shrug, true to Prompto's word he was young maybe no older then twenty and a bit lazy.

"I'm sure you can, but I want you to take it. My shop after all. Not like giving away one thing is going to shut our business down," he said with a hand on his hip.

"No, but your lazy ass might," Gladio added in, which got him a shove from the prince.

Riku watched the interactions between the four, he couldn't help but think that maybe if he and Sora had never gotten the Keyblades would he, Kairi and Sora be like that? Spending each day together without some kind of worry they would be ripped apart from each other? It was a nice thought, but another part of him wouldn't trade away his past either. It was his actions that had allowed them to travel to other worlds, meet new friends and make bonds with people he never would have been able to make a bond with. He took that moment to look at Vanitas who was also watching the other four individuals info of them. Had things not happened the way they did, he wouldn't have ever met Vanitas. He smiled as he reached over, wrapping his arms around around the raven haired boy's shoulder and pulling him flush against his side.

He couldn't stop himself from pressing his face against the dark colored locks of hair and simply holding him for a moment. No, if anyone asked Riku if he would want to change anything he wouldn't. He was happy with what he had in his life now, yes he missed Sora greatly and wouldn't stop searching for him until he found him. But he was happy, he was a Keyblade Master, one who could harness the light and dark, he had Vanitas at his side and he couldn't be happier. He could feel the confusion radiating off of the smaller male he was holding and the stares from the other four. He felt more then saw Vanitas give a shrug as if he was answering a question. After a few long moments Riku finally pulled away and looked to the four.

"Thank you, for this i mean."

Noctis smiled nodding. "It's what friends do. You guys are welcomed to come back here anytime you like."

Riku smiled, nodding as he moved to walk out of the shop, but stopped when Vanitas pulled his hand away. He turned around and watched as the raven turned to face the group. He seemed nervous, as if he was having a hard time coming up with something to say to them. Riku couldn't help but smile as Vanitas fiddled with the hem of the skirt.

"I uh...I just wanted to say thank you." Vanitas said almost awkwardly, he sighed and looked up at the four. "Thank you for this, I...didn't really have anything of my own before coming here and I guess this is the first thing that I've picked out for myself that's well, for me. So thank you." Riku almost panicked when he saw Noctis lift his hand. But was surprised when all he did was ruffle Vanitas' dark colored locks gently.

The look he was giving the boy was one full of warmth, understanding and sympathy. It's like he knew what it was like having had everything I his life picked for him, which he guessed he did. After all he was a Prince, the King of Kings. Though he didn't have a horrible life like Vanitas did at the hands of Xehanort, but he knew what it was like to have things picked for him without so much as his own input. Riku sighed in relief at how calm Vanitas looked, even if it held undertone confusion at the sign of affection.

"Your welcome, Vanitas. Be safe, go enjoy the town." He said.

And with that, Vanitas smiled brightly, nodding before slipping his hand into Riku's and dragging him away from the store and down the street. They we're a good few blocks away before Vanitas came to a sudden halt. The skirt swaying gracefully with his movements as he turned to face Riku. He paused, before he stepped up to him, sliding his arms under Riku's and hugging him tightly. It wasn't often that Vanitas showed affection so easily, he liked to keep this kind of thing private and only around those they spent most of their time with. So Riku was taken aback by this hug but he easily wrapped his arms around the smaller male, squeezing him tightly.

"Do what do I owe this?" He asked, at first Vanitas didn't answer. He figured that the raven wasn't going to. He didn't need Vanitas to answer to know why he was hugging him, so the blue eyed male only laughed, pressing a kiss to the top of his head. "There's nothing to thank me for you know,"

"Bull and you know it." At that Riku laughed loudly, picking the other boy up and spinning them, which got a yelp from the other. "Okay, okay I get it! Put me down!" When his feet touched the ground, Vanitas pulled away, holding his hand out to Riku who this time slipped his hand into his easily. "Hey...do you think that maybe we can-, well more if it's okay if I can-"

He was stopped when Riku placed his hand over his mouth. His eyes narrowed into a glare but when he spotted the fond look on Riku's face he couldn't help but let the glare fade. Slowly Riku removed his hand from over Vanitas' mouth and moved it so it rested on his cheek. A soft purr started coming from the golden eyed boy as he leaned into the touch when Riku started to stroke his thumb just under his eye.

"You can wear whatever you want, and buy whatever you want." He responded with, leaning down and kissing his forehead. "Come on, let's go see what other stuff we can find." He said, lacing their fingers together as they continued to walk down the streets.

By the end of the trip, Riku happily found Vanitas finally being able to bond and interact at least with Naminé as she helped him adjust any skirts he had gotten so they fit. And he didn't need words to know what Vanitas meant when he walked up to him, wearing another skirt and just barely brushing his fingers over his heart.

finished kh3 a couple of days ago and i have some thots on it.. this took me a while to write, but seeing the general consensus right now im glad im not the only one whos got some Feelings about it. obvious spoiler talk underneath the cut!

before anything i wanna say i did enjoy the game. i had fun with it, it is polished to beyond and isnt per se a rushed product technical wise - which makes my grievances with it the more harrowing

first and foremost i dont have too much gripes with the story and its ending overall. sora ‘dying’ had been hinted at before and seeing how the disney worlds played out i had expected it to happen. the revival of aqua, ven and terra was sufficient and while the seasalt trio only had one scene to call their own, it’s fine, really. it brought the emotion across and worked as climax for their arc. im happy that theyre happy

however, its nothing more than that: it’s fine. the game itself didnt do anything to make all of these returns and happy endings meaningful. it simply presented you one longer-than-average cutscene and a boss fight for each respective trio and had you fill in the blanks. for 20 hours it feels like the game is at a standstill as you go from disney world to disney world, forcing you to do unrelated tasks and seemingly doing everything to prevent sora from going into the realm of darkness until the very last 7 hours of the game where everything happens at once

that feeling of ‘standstill’ is caused by nothing really happening in sora’s physical journey. yes, he does meet marluxia, y!xehanort and vanitas (arguably the best and most efficient encounter in the game), but youre no step closer to the goal youre trying to achieve nor is any other character making any visible progress. when its time to finally take the first step, youre soon thrown at the very end of the plight: you save aqua, you immediately save ven, youre at the keyblade graveyard, you reunite everyone in the span of 2 hours and then its end game already

theres not breather in-between. no moment to let your achievements sink in and let these lost wielders get acquainted with the main cast and have some form of reunion. to make it feel like they matter in the present time. after all is said and done you find the resurrection of the wayfinder and seasalt trio meaningful not because the game helped you connect but because youve spent the past 10 years thinking about them.

this overall covers my main complaint about the game. further on i tried to collect some other issues in smaller points which i think just added to the Experience

to address the elephant in the room, kairi has been such a waste once again. being advertised as keyblade wielder, finally playing a role in all of this, only for her to get kidnapped immediately and killed is an awful move. being the reason sora is ‘dead’ in the end leaves such a bad bad aftertaste on top of all that. since a bunch of other posts have already discussed the issues at hand, i wont go in on this too hard. i do wanna say tho that kairi here feels like the epitome of character mismanagement problems the game is having in general; you dont feel for her. she says a lot of things, but is not acting on it. you dont see her training, you barely see her fighting. shes not talking to sora up to moments before her death, its no wonder youll forget about her until sora brings her up again post-end boss

continuing, instead of introducing mysterious female character(s) which never serve any purpose, i wish they had used the time to develop the characters which actually were at stake here. same goes for the many more sub-plots that never lead anywhere. the time spent talking about The Box, The Girl, The KHuX Survivors could have been used to ease the fallen heroes into the story. DLC content would have been perfect to introduce all these other elements into the present for future installments, instead of leaving all of these mentioned new plot points entirely unresolved. as its stands kh3 is a playable sequel bait instead the end of the xehanort saga

no radiant garden hub world? a huge portion of plot relevant characters are gathered there, why wouldn’t you add this one to the selection? the relief you would feel seeing the outcome of the restoration committee, kairi finally getting back in touch with her homeworld, damn, even just being able to interact with your allies on an npc level would be enough to make this game feel alive. this emptiness spreads out to the other world as well: like many AAA games, kh3 suffers from beautiful but empty world syndrome. sure, the worlds are huge, but theres nothing to do but fight enemy hordes and run for hours. arendelle arguably being the worst offender where all safe point spawning places look the same

minor, but still gonna mention it: sora still hasnt thanked namine and it personally drives me nuts. it wouldnt be that much of a problem honestly if theyd stop bringing it up every other game, throwing out cutscenes solely dedicated to that.. like, come on.

im trying to be optimistic here, but kh3 was supposed to wrap all these ‘spin-off’ into the main story line, not hint at a dozen more games to come. the game overall feels like another side project, instead of a full blown main title which is a damn shame. i already wrote this on twitter, but to me kh3 feels like the point where the series loses all of its emotional value in favor of ‘unforeseen’ plot twists to create this historic epic that paints nomura as some kind of ingenious story teller. instead of providing a story that focuses on the fight between light and dark, the power of friendship, and of course finally giving us an ending to all these characters weve grown attached to over the years, its simply put sequel bait in order to promote a (pretty much) pay to play mobile game. and it left me disappointed

thinkin’ about norts and vessels [kh3 spoilers]

i’m only a teensy bit sad we didn’t get to see more of org13 thru the coarse of the game but we didnt get to see A Lot of what i wouldve liked coughs destiny trio, more bonding between characters, sora and ven talking, vanitas getting a Slightly better end than That, sora actually coming home to be with his friends coughs tho i really just wanted to get a better idea of how the fragment impacts its host.

and................we got nothin’ in that department.

well, okay, not nothing. We know A.) They have backups, like demyx and vexen B.) by the sound of it the backups Willingly came over to their side. dont quote me on this my memory is very bad and i gotta look over secret reports again and watch more nort scenes. C.) they’ve all got gold eyes except xion. what......was up with that like Dont Touch My Girl but also ??? hewwo? im vewy confused mistew nomuwa D.) Interestingly enough, only some of them have pointed ears. Demyx doesn’t, I honestly can’t tell with Larxene but i don’t think she does, i cant even see marluxias ears behind his mane of hair, and luxord??i cant tell. but Vexen’s ears are pointed and saix’s have always been that way. So i wonder what determines it! but my sora’s ears aren’t pointed. yet. E.) I figured they were all sent out on missions during the waiting period before the war but it seems they all little individual missions split between Box Hunt and New Seven Hearts. except for the ones who got benched, like vexen was obviously off doing replica things and demyx..................exists. F.) The ‘chosen’ aren’t really able to do much sneaking around(?). I don’t know how accurate this is but im just going off a few things. The first being vexens remark about Hands Being Tied and him needing demyx to act on his behalf, because hes really off everyones radar. The second being that little reunion scene with marly, larxy, demyx, luxord and xemnas, they all just kinda repeatedly poofed in like YEAH HEY I WAS LISTENING IN ON YOUR CONVERSATION. this really just leads me to believe they get spied on a lot to prevent anyone from acting outside their interests BUT THIS IS REALLY JUST A LOTTA SPECULATION it doesnt hold much weight and you gotta squint to see it. either way I’m justified with my soranort being kept on a tight leash because Wow he Actively Fights Against Them Whenever He Can G.) why the fuck aren’t they at the castle that never was. why do they only meet up in the graveyard. guys the castle has a roof over its head and beds and even a lounge. guys please. In my blog canon they all hang out in never was Ok thank u

BUT THIS STILL ISNT THE STUFF I WANTED TO KNOW MORE ON i really!! wanted to learn about how fragments impact their hosts!!!! BEYOND some physical changes!!!  all i can glean from this is that it really doesn’t impact the host when theyve accepted it. Everyone more or less acts like themselves. But my sora hasnt accepted it, hes still actively resisting and whenever he does give in to the darkness its kind of like releasing a floodgate. it overwhelms him until the flood has run its course. 

I had a bunch of old fragment headcanons from before KH3 came out but with everything we’ve seen from org13 in the game i think i’m only going to keep these few (c&p from an old post from 2 eyars ago)--

fragments can act as master xehanorts’s eyes and ears. If he so willed it, he could tap into the fragment and see what that specific vessel is up to, where they are, and so on.

this mainly extends to direct norts, such as MX, YMX. Vessels like Sora or Saix can’t.

This goes without saying, but the fragment does grow and develop. It’s possible to stunt this growth, but the vessel directly can’t stunt / stop the growth. Once again, only a direct nort could but honestly why would MX do that??

This isn’t really a headcanon but I’m not sure if it was ever explicitly stated in canon so ??? Fragment + darkness exposure is responsible for physical changes within the vessel over time and depending on fragments growth. most notably pointed ears and silver hair. Sora won’t receive silver hair but theres a chance his ears may start to point along the line. I say ‘chance’ because YMX’s ears aren’t pointed and he’s a direct nort. I’m on the fence about this one.

Manipulating the fragment means manipulating the host. This extends to a variety of things. For example, knocking the vessel unconscious, or even tampering with the heart directly (ie, MX purposely speeding up the darkness’s growth in sora’s heart) Im on the fence about this one and i’ll leave it up to whatever nort im rping with if they so choose to do somehting like this. it makes for good angst tho so i dont wanna let it go entirely.

Ok welcome to my Kingdom hearts blog where my motto is FDB Kairi, Vanitas and Sora deserved better, Repliku deserved to be with Namine or at least say goodbye to her before disappearing, Sora and Riku shared the paopu first and the ending of kh3 is the result of the paopu gods being pissed because Sora shared the paopu with another and you cant tell me otherwise, Soriku is canon fars Im concerned and every Sokai moment in this game was awkward and forced af, Namine, Roxas, Xion and Ventus all deserved more screentime, we have a million Sora’s but we cant have 2 Riku’s? come on man

So anyway to sum up my main view points

FDB Kairi, KH3 literally made me hate her when before I just simply disliked her

Namine, Xion and Aqua are best gals

Roxas, Vanitas, Ventus and Sora are best boys

Riku’s cool although not my fave he has my respect

Vanitas and Ven should have reconciled in KH3 and possibly reunited, if not then the two should have reconciled and actually had a heart to heart instead of just ‘I am darkness goodbye’ ‘ok’ that is NOT how that should have gone, Xehanort gets to reconcile with Eraqus but not Vanitas with Ventus? gtf outta here man, I didnt expect Vanitas to have some big sappy ooc moment I just pictured something similar to Naruto at the waterfall training with Bee fighting his darker half and only after he learned to accept and embrace it could he move forward, THATS what I expected but nope, what was the point of even bringing Vanitas back if you werent gonna let these two make peace? this whole game has been villains having change of hearts and the worst one of all being Xehanort even has one but Vanitas just goes out as ‘I am darkness’ which makes all the build-up to Vanitas redemption till this point just to have it end like this in the end of the Xehanort saga is a huge slap in the face, so in that regard I guess I empathize with Kairi fans who expected her to do something but did absolutely nothing

Nomura unintentionally confirmed Riku did the paopu ritual with Sora back in KH1 by confirming in this game that the whole sharing of the paopu legend didnt require you to eat it but just giving it to the other person, proven by Kairi simply giving Sora the paopu but neither of them actually eat it yet that was supposed to represent them finally doing the legend thats been built up since KH1 which was supposed to be a huge Sokai moment but it just ended up becoming a huge Soriku one instead lol

Kairi should have never had a keyblade and not because of my personal bias but because HOW she got to be able to use one shouldnt even be a thing, you shouldnt be able to just touch the handle of a keyblade wielder and be able to use a keyblade no, it should be like what Terra did formally bequeathing Riku that ability the same should have applied to Kairi and everyone else, Sora touching Riku’s light is excusable because the keyblade chose him which is the ONLY other way someone should get a keyblade is if their CHOSEN by the keyblade itself, please tell me why the keyblade would choose Kairi, what has she done to EARN or DESERVE a keyblade? be a princess of heart? shouldnt all of them have keyblade then? no? of course not cuz thats bs, there is no reason thats why she needed just a half-assed excuse as to why and how she got one, hell even Axel had to prove himself to earn his keyblade, Kairi’s literally the only one who it was just handed to with minimal explanation

I love Sora but I swear in some areas in KH3 it felt like I was watching 2 different people, our Sora and whoever the hell that was

Kairi should have stayed dead in KH3 not just because of my personal feelings toward her but because they literally set it up in POTC with Wills death and Elizabeth being strong and going on without him and then Xehanort kills Kairi and although I knew it was unlikely I figured it was even MORE unlikely that Sora would be the one who dies because hes the protagonist and Nomura literally said Sora would continue to be the protagonist in future games so it’d make more sense for Kairi to die and Sora just having to learn to live on without her and accept the fact that no matter how hard he tries he CANT save everyone, but nope Nomura just pretty much tossed that opportunity for growth and development with Sora and just lets him abuse the power of waking and die for some chick who didnt deserve it that he already killed himself once for this SAME person in KH1 only this time it was alot less impactful but just really infuriating and unnecessary and just overall pointless

Kairi shouldnt have been in the final battle, PERIOD, Roxas should have been brought back earlier on and HE be the 7th light needed while Kairi hangs back and keeps training with Merlin, the fact that anybody let an amateur into the final biggest most dangerous fight ever for her first time using a keyblade on the battlefield boggles my danm mind that even Sora or Riku or Yen Sid didnt tell her to sit this out because she WASNT ready or hell Kairi HERSELF saying she shouldnt go acknowledging that she herself isnt prepared for this serious a battle and she doesnt wanna get in their way and risk them getting hurt trying to protect her, the fact that NEITHER of these happened boggles my friggin mind and please dont say ‘well they needed a 7th light and Roxas needed a spark yatta yatta yatta thats why’ because I can make a whole separate post about why thats bullshit and how it could of happened if the writing was actually GOOD and SENSIBLE there

I cant stress this enough but I DO NOT CARE about the pairings in Kingdom Hearts and I wanna be very clear on this

I do not care if Roxas ends up with a friggin tree or Axel smashes a toaster or Riku with Xion or Sora with Isa IDGAF about shipping in KH because there is way more important things going on then to worry about who gets with who, the only reason I care about Sokai is because I love Sora but despise Kairi and think he can do so much better and even if that ends up bein a frog IDC just as long as it aint her so its really not about the ship but more about what a garbage character Kairi is

I have plenty of ships that I like, but I could care less whether or not they become canon because to me thats just a bonus not a necessity I’ll still enjoy the pairings regardless

KH is supposed to be a combination of Disney and Final Fantasy, if Nomura separates from FF hes makin a huge mistake, you cant remove part of what literally started the franchise in the first place

I think thats about it but If I think of anything else I’ll add it here but yea thats pretty much it, those are my basic views for the series so far so either take it or leave it, if you disagree then just agree to disagree Im not tryin to change any of your opinions and you cant change mine, scratch that you cant change my opinion on Kairi but Im open minded on just about everything else so maybe my opinion CAN change in some areas but Kairi is the one area it wont

I will share some of my kh headcanons here(+ some au ability stuff )

Marluxia/Lauriam: when he feels strong emotions flowers bloom from his hair, he also has a unfortunate ability,that everytime he touches something directly with his hands, it starts to rot. Thus he always wears gloves

Larxene/erlena: has different lighting burn marks around her body, and she loves cats but is allergic to them (chirithys dont count). Elrena also like sewing stuff.

Axel/lea: he has( similar to larxene)burn marks around his body

Vanitas: he may be a being of "darkness" but hes actually scared of the dark, dont put him into a completely dark room he will start crying.

Vexen/even: his body is constantly cold, when he isnt wearing his cloak , he wears warm clothing to regulate his body temperature

Zexion/ienzo: he keeps exhausting his body to the extreme, a bad habit ,that he obtained from zexion who never cared about his own well being. Ienzo also used to make small dolls resembling the radiant garden crew(aka his family)

Damn i usually have alot more headcanons rotating in my head, now i cant think of any anymore...

i beat kh3 and oh boy do i both love it and am kinda just :/ towards some of it

thoughts under the cut (and its gonna have spoilers so pls dont look if u avoiding them)

first, my gripes:

the story is fukin wild, which i expected from kh3 dont get me wrong, but u can rlly tell what parts nomura was just like “what do i do with this”. KAIRI AND NAMINE IN FUCKING GENERAL are the biggest damn example of this. i already dont like how theyre written in kh, but my god nomura had a chance to fix it and he didnt, its now objectively a lil worse. kairi is reduced to a damsel in distress AGAIN after showing some potential of improving that with her training with lea/axel, which rlly fuckin stings. shes in ONE on screen battle actually fighting, the other battle she’s in? doesnt fight, sits on the sidelines protecting a knocked out axel and then getting whooshed away. she’s always been the implied love interest for sora, and nomura rlly just reduces her to tht in the end on top of the damsel in distress. namine is in the game, but its p much a blink and ull miss it. the most interaction she has with someone is with sora in the final world as a star. the next time shes shown is being waking up and being whisked away by riku n then playing on destiny islands. she had no plot relevance and she also doesnt have a reunion with her friends like everyone else got, which is p sad to me. these girls deserve better smh.

the gimmicks in some worlds are p meh, the one i hated at first was the ship battles in the carribean, but it grew on me during my trophy hunting. the hundred acre wood mini games are so boring and forgettable, and i would argue that the world is too. u literally pop in, help them gather food, then pop out after reassuring pooh tht sora will always be in his heart. they dont explain why their bond got weaker at all. 

the ultima weapon in this is stupid to get bc its locked behind annoying minigames for most of those orichalcum+ materials. theres also one locked behind a long gummi ship boss battle so that sounds horrible and im not looking forward to it lol

i played on proud and i found it isnt really....difficult. aside from me not using block bc i always wanna be hitting things, it was fairly easy to beat. its a shame really.

let me play as the other keybladers other than sora aqua and riku thanks

enough with my gripes, now for what i love about it:

I KNOW I WAS SUPER CRITICAL ABT NOMURA’S WRITING IN THIS ONE BUT I STILL LOVE IT. EVERYONE REUNITES WITH THEIR FRIENDS AND IM SO FUCKING HAPPY ABT THT IT MAKES ME TEARFUL!!!! MY GIRLFRIEND AQUA IS BACK AND HER HAPPY FAMILY IS (mostly) WHOLE AGAIN!! THE SEA SALT TRIO LIVES AGAIN!!!! ISA AND THE TWILIGHT TOWN GANG JOIN IN ON IT!!!! I CRY!!!!!! THEYRE ALL BACK AND IM SO HAPPYYYYYY

the music in the game is just so SO SOOOO GOOD. yoko shimomura did another excellent job with the themes and the arrangments, her music just makes me so emotional ;;;;;;

i rlly wish i was kidding when i said i was up at 4am crying bc of the ending. the implications it has left me with an immense sadness and the whole thing was bittersweet, so im glad the secret movie might be implying that theres much more after this. nomura u put him back now or i swear to god ill find u and cRY REALLY LOUDLY UNTIL U DO

NEW OUTFITS!!! xion’s new outfit is my fave its so cute

the game is rlly pretty, like holy shit. it runs fairly smoothly for looking like it does, i only rlly got frame drops in the carribean air boss. the nice models for pre rendered cutscenes look so cute

NEW UTADA HIKARU MUSIC, the orchestra version of dont think twice is so pretty, cant wait to hear it during the world of tres concert in june

the worlds were pretty enjoyable,  i adored the toy story monsters inc and san fransokyo worlds so much. the trio were rlly cute in the carribean too even if tht world was rlly meh to me. all these disney characters having no clue what any of the darkness villains are talking abt keeps me young. the way sully and mike deal with vanitas is hilarious, the way sora and co are just kinda THERE during elsa’s let it go song, hiro please i beg of you let me have a baymax PLEASE

the combat feels so GOOD, the keyblade switching is so fun, and how magic works in this game is soooo good and apparently broken lol

im glad this wasnt the end for kingdom hearts, bc while yes its been a while, kingdom hearts is one of my favorite series, and i couldnt imagine it stopping with 3 even when 3 was announced. I know itll end one day, but im glad today isnt that day.

im sure i missed a bit but all in all, even with its flaws, i love kh3

oh man and im just remembering how dumb the damn unversed are they look like heartless and act like heartless and ARE EXACTLY HEARTLESS ‘theyre beings of pure unrestrained emotion who lash out angrily at everything around them’ ok but thats EXACTLY THE DESCRIPTION OF HEARTLESS except the bit on the end thats like ‘because they want your heart’ theyre just fuckin heartless but slightly blue tinted and with red instead of yellow eyes and they go out of their way to mimic all the archetypes that every game has to ahve, like the Large Bodies and the Nocturnes and etc and THEY LOOK REALLY SIMILAR EXCEPT FOR MORE COMPLICATED EYES and then the super shitty excusey way they FINALLY explain them in the last five minutes of the game as ‘fragments of vanitas’s heart’ like seriously it was already fuckin complicated enough to suddenly drop on us that roxas wasnt simply sora’s nobody but also a reflection of a real other guy who really existed years ago and somehow met sora in the spirit realm when he died and they fused or something and then also somehow this guy’s dark side looks exactly like sora BEFORE SORA and that part is never actually explained but also somehow mr dark side isnt actually a heartless but a something entirely else than can somehow vomit up mini heartless armies and like.. somehow never fuckin uses them to actually fight?? like seriously?? do we even ever see him in the same room as an unversed let alone controlling or creating them? it really feels like they wrote his entire character without this trait and then slapped it on in the last five minutes to have some sort of Shocking Twist or else just a goddamn excuse to have enemies cos seriously i bet they just wrote themselves into a corner and were like ‘damn we cant be fuckin logical and just have the heroes fighting Actual Bad Humans in the time before heartless’ or like.. fighting.. actual heartless.. seriously until they fuckin said ‘hey we made these new guys cos we got no heartless’, i literally never thought that heartless didnt exist back then! it would make absolutely no sense that xehanort/ansem made the first heartless in those experiments, i mean the whole Lore talks about how the worlds became separate long before any of these people were alive, and it was becuase of ‘darkness in people’s hearts’ so... yeah??? why not just say heartless are a primordial old evil that has had various outbreaks over history whenever some dood is super corrupt? and xehanort just released the latest ones + also did all those experiments to make the emblem variants so theyre even more dangerous than before, blablabla. Coulda just used all the same unversed designs and said theyre the non-emblem variants of Large Body, Nocturne, etc. Coulda even kept the different eyes idea and said they take on different evolutions each time they reoccur throughout history cos of the shape of the darkness in the heart of whoever called them. or whatever just anything except ‘dude somehow is able to create fifty billion minions from his butt yet somehow isnt overpowered and never uses this ever when he needs to’ seriously i shoulda had to fight another 1000 heartless battle just to get to this guy! if he has enough friggin MP to make EVERY SINGLE ENEMY WE FOUGHT IN THE ENTIRE GAME, then why did he ever stop???

*grump grump* im mad cos the designs are really cute and they’ll never get to come back ever again cos of the dumb vanitas backstory... also cos KH2/COM/Days/Coded already confused me and BBS was the absolute height of plot nonsense that made me quit the whole series for like 8 years im glad to be back but tbh i wish i could just ignore alllllllll of this plot shit and just get back to ‘fight the darkness, visit some cute disneys, cry over some soft protagonists who deserve a good hug’ but i cant cos that’d mean leaving behind all the scattered good bits in those million interquel games, like my beloved org 13 doofuses :/ why are my feelings so everywhere and nowhere at once and why am I googling lists of KH monster concept art at 4am and crying THEYRE SO FUCKIN CUTE AND IM SO SICK AND THEY HEAL ME why cant i hug the heartless aaa u can have my heart u were the primo cuteys of my childhood foreverrrrr god i need to go cook some mac n cheese 4am mac and cheese and heartless auuuuuauuuuuu

ALRIGHT SO CONTEXT Master Xehanort, aka this old ass mofo right here

is all like im gonna split my heart amongst 13 vessels (aka the true Organization XIII) because hes evil like that BUT HARK WHO BE THESE THIRTEEN VESSELS you cry. well calm down im getting there

coming in at xehanort number 2 and 3 is his nobody and heartless Xemnas and Ansem the seeker of darkness (not to be confused with ansem the wise)

number 4 and 5 is Isa/Saix and Braig/Xigbar looks like braig fully signed up for xehanort possessing his body, but it appears that isa did not consent to being norted (chances are he’s being mind controlled by the recusant sigil aka the x shaped scar on his face)

in 6th place and also our last actually confirmed member is pretty boy Young Xehanort himself... because time travel is a thing in kingdom hearts now... as if the plot wasnt complicated enough...

boi these folks sure love to hold their arms out like that dont they possible numbers 7 and 8 are the Riku Replica (repliku) aka my boi riku’s CLONE (though some people are expecting it to be the ansem possessed riku from the first game) and Terranort (a terra possessed xehanort) terranort’s only in this speculation part cause 1) he hasn’t been explicitly confirmed and 2) im under the impression that terra’s gonna be one of the seven guardians of light and im not sure if him and terranort can exist at the same time?????? if he isnt one then idk who to fill his slot with soooo WILD CARD SLOT

at 9 ive got Vanitas. you may remember him from the last post

at numbers 10, 11, 12, and 13 ive got Demyx, Luxord, Larxene, and Marluxia(or whatever their somebodies’ names are if theyve been reformed???) these four have the least evidence supporting a ‘norted status, but theyre included since theyre currently unaccounted for in canon, have all been antagonists/part of the original Organization XIII, and ‘cause i need to fill these 13 ‘nort slots and i doubt that nomura will fill them with brand new characters

other speculated candidates ive seen are Ansem the Wise, Luxu, Lea/Axel, Master Eraqus, a Disney Villain (idk like maleficent or something), and Sora himself even tho they already tried and failed to ‘nort him but whatevs
