If the thame po episode 10 made u mad then that's a good thing it's supposed to be infuriating that in this year 2025 this behavior is still happening. I've seen some say this is overdone but it's not this conversation will always be had over and over cause it's not simply reaching some ppl at all which is sad truly. Alot of "fans" intrude into these idols lives and make speculations on speculations about them over every little thing on who they're dating or seeing potentially! Just spreading misinformation even going as far to prove their sexuality is actually this when it's not the other which is another conversation to unpack. Fern is a grown woman working her own job who has this love for Mars running their fanclub and her reaction didn't shock me one bit. The way they handled that scene with her and po had alot of compassion to hear her out to an extent! Cause someone watching this who can relate to her or a her can not be so quick to be argumentative and defensive. And fern isn't even on the extreme side of what we typically see from "fans" it just goes to show it effects everyone which we all know. Also the company or companies are also the ones working behind the scenes of it all and will manipulate and plant stories to derial us. That is very important not everything is the idol the lables move in secret and use the fans even. But to end this william went Iive yesterday on his bday and said this to end the live and i think we all need to hear it even if u already know it, it doesn't hurt.

Tommy's introduced as a bigot in season 2 and often shown taking initiative in starting the bullying of Hen and Chim vs. waiting for Gerrard to do something and just not standing up for them. There's even a scene in "Chimney Begins" where no one else is even in the room to overhear and Tommy still chooses to be nasty to Chimney instead of a bare minimum of civil. Even after the "resolution" of the episode and his 'apology' (not for racism, but for making Chim prove himself at work), he's still shown to have spent years not learning his lesson, becuase he goes back to the same behaviors with Hen and Chimnney even mentions that "the Asian guy" still isn't invited out by the team for drinks or BBQ.

Then when it's "addressed" in season 7, we see remarkably little growth from Tommy, where he's blaming "the environment" and Gerrard for his choices and actions as a grown man. And in season 8, we get a healthy dose of misogyny in ageism with how he speaks of Abby, while casually acknowledging he also screwed up her life.

It's not just that he was afraid to stand up against bigotry in the face of an evil boss. He could've taken Eli's route, and just be silent. But no, Tommy is someone who chose to actively participate in workplace bigotry and bullying, and then almost 20 years removed, shrugs it off as everyone else's fault.

let’s not forget his very recent comments about Abby that were reeking of misogyny. Talking about her dating some “himbo” younger than her (as if he wasn’t actively doing the same thing) and admitting he was lying the whole relationship (not just about his sexuality).

Word for word that man said, “Heard she went a little nuts after that” as if her entire world wasn’t flipped upside down with her engagement ending and having to take care of her sick mother. The only tiny bit of understanding he showed was him saying she deserved better, which duh. 

One time when I was five I put a bead in my nose and it went all the way up to the bridge and I had to push down on it from the top until I could get it out because I was scared it would go to my brain and kill me.

That has nothing to do with any of what you said, but I just thought I'd put that out there because you're doing some dumb shit and I wanted you to know we've all done dumb shit. This is a safe space.

Anyway, I don't think you've ever been a closeted queer person who's said and done some at times questionable or outright fucked up things to keep yourself safe from scrutiny.* I grew up seeing people like me getting murdered and heard people explain why it would've been avoidable if they hadn't been so obvious or if they'd just chosen to be normal. I also grew up with a lot of bullies who were only bullying me because it put them in the protected group. It kept them from having people look at whether or not they were actually a good target for bullying. I'm actually friends with a couple of those people now. Not close, but we're cordial and we'll talk when we bump into each other at the store. That has more to do with us being in our thirties and living our own lives. There's a couple who had no excuse whatsoever other than being actual homophobes, I don't talk to them.

I dated in high school, I was engaged but I was 18 so I don't know how much that counts, but then I came out when I was in my early twenties. I knew I wasn't actually interested the entire time I was with those people, either. At first I just thought the relationship wasn't right for me, then I started to realize what was actually going on. I still dated, I still asked someone to marry me because I thought I could be happy with them. I did love and care about them, just not the way you should if you're going to marry them. I also didn't tell anyone I was non-binary until two months ago, even though I figured it out about fifteen years ago. A trans person hiding their identity to protect themselves from danger or rejection is nothing new, but it's kind of a shitty feeling to know you've been lying to every ex you've ever had about something like that. I don't like that feeling, and it's going to take a while for me to shake that. I don't know that I ever will.

So all of that is to say that a character like Tommy is actually kind of important to those of us who also weren't perfect at being queer, especially those of us who grew up during a specific time. I was actually pleasantly surprised that a basic network show would have someone like that, but times they are a-changing. So onto your last point:

Abby Clark is played by a now 57 year old Connie Britton (drop the skincare routine, girl), Lou Ferrigno Jr is 40, and Oliver Stark is 33. When you're an actual grown person, a seven or eight year age difference is kind of nothing. One of you might be a little more ready for things like kids or marriage, but that's not a guarantee. But hearing that your ex started dating a 26 year old when she's about 50, whether or not he knows that she actually pulled Buck's info in a very questionable way (I love that no one going after Tommy ever seems to care about the massive ethical breach from Abby), is kind of...wild. And he presumably heard about this from a mutual friend of some kind, who likely gave him this information colored by their own perception of the situation. This is where critical thinking skills become important. Based on context clues, I can safely guess that Tommy asked someone how Abby was doing or ran into someone who knows her, too, and they said "Hey, did you hear about Abby's new guy?" Otherwise he would've said "I saw that she was dating...." or "She told me she was dating..." So this could've been secondhand bitchiness, it could've been that her behavior was being framed as extremely not okay by someone they knew. We'll never know, the show doesn't have the strongest writing all the time. I'm not touching the thing about her mother, because a very close family member of mine has Alzheimer's, a good friend just lost a parent to it, and I do not want to examine the behavior of a person who's dealing with that or that of the people in their lives.

Could he have said "But I get it, she would've been going through a lot because of her mom and then our breakup"? Yeah. Would it have been nice if they wrote any scenes between Tommy, Hen, and Chimney that bridged the gap between when they weren't close and when they actually celebrated him and his accomplishments when he left the 118 to show why he would be someone Chimney would call on in two major emergencies? Yeah. I think I would've liked to see them talk things out onscreen and to show any apologies. Mostly because it would keep people from dropping an essay in my ask box when I feel like my sinuses and temples are filled with hot needles. I don't actually need to see it other than liking the three of them together, because I figured that they would've shown some hesitation before Chimney would reach out to him or he would've pulled Buck aside to warn him to be careful with Tommy. Or Hen and Karen wouldn't have been so thrilled when they realized what had gone down before Buck and Tommy came into the hospital room. There's a lot of stuff they don't show on this show, but they'd at least make a point to do or not do certain things if a character hated or disliked a character.

*I believe a certain dispatcher even did a whole big speech about this on the very show you apparently watch. I didn't like the Glee part, because I don't like Glee after season one. But the rest of it was good.

If I can cut in. The problem I have with Maiko and Kataang had nothing to do with the women "only showing up for action scenes". Also I never had an issue with supporting characters being, well, supportive.

The issue with those ships was that one character's feelings was brushed off to a comical amount. That they provided negative development together. That the perspective was much too one sided. And the times they're together romantically in the show, they're either miserable (mostly for Maiko) or one of them is shown to be uncomfortable, (this is Kataang. And to be clear, this isn't even just on Katara's end. The stammering. The being unable to even look at her. That's a form of uncomfortable).

These are problems Sukka doesn't have.

At their first meeting Suki was there to develop Sokka's perspective yes, but he developed her perspective too. Kiyoshi Island was isolated, they had an elite team of fighters but have largely kept away from the world at large for the past hundred years. Yet after their meeting Suki, and the rest of her team, are shown traveling and helping people out.

And despite developing Sokka, Suki was allowed to be a person. She was confident, and competitive, while also being goofy, and a bit immature ("I fell on purpose to make you feel better!"). She wasn't just an empty "girl power!' character for Sokka to unlearn misogyny from, but a full one in her own right. And from their shared passion to protect, shared style of humor, hard won leadership abilities, and love of sass. They were able to build up natural chemistry from, before the kiss. (Can you imagine? I know Maiko can't)

She was allowed to be mean and sassy, but unlike for Maiko - where Mai aimed for her scared boyfriend going back to his abuser's home. Suki aimed for a arrogant jerk who looked down on her and her culture. They weren't even into each other at the time. As you can imagine, that context changes things.

And hey, remember how Suki was about to kiss Sokka on the Serpent's Pass but, noticing his hesitation, she backed off? (Aang can take some notes) And notice how it was Sokka who initiated their next kiss, and solidified their relationship? But, unlike a certain ship I can think of, the characters were allowed to express their feelings and clear the air before the kiss.

It's a push and pull, both characters have actively shown interest in each other. Both characters have respected each other as people. And when they're together, they actually act like they enjoy spending time together. Unlike comic Kataang, however, Suki got to be her own person the entire time. She got to poke fun at Sokka, make little jokes of her own...say things other than "sweetie".

Imagine that! A couple that's happy together, without having to make the woman's life all about her partner. Sukka is absolutely not in the same category as the other endgame ships of ATLA, are you joking?

why does our side of the fandom has a soft spot for sukka when in reality, at least in my opinion, belong in the same category as kataang and maiko.

(Suki only appears in the narative just to enhance Sokka's journey and only takes the spotlight just to have cool action scenes)

Why do people insist on asking me these broad questions as if I speak for the entirety of the Zutara fandom. Buddy, I don't know why anyone else ships Sukka, but as for me, I actually like both Suki and Sokka. In just a few episodes they show a level of respect, understanding and chemistry that doesn't exist at all with Kataang or Maiko, and Kataang at least, had an entire series to build that up between them. I don't like Kataang or Maiko for a lot of reasons, but it boils down to I don't like Aang or Mai.

chapter 5- 2/2- i. senku

Death is a normal part of life; every single human being on earth will reach that end no matter how much they try to escape its grasp.

Senku sits in the large room. It's quiet, of that usual chattering, and only the sounds of muffled cries and sniffles are heard.

He looks towards the front of the room. [Name] sat beside her father; she wasn't doing well, and the distant, dull look in her eyes and the dark bags underneath it showed her well-being. The black kimono she wore shuffles slightly at her movement. Her father gently rubs her back and brings her back into another hug.

The boy feels his throat clench slightly before looking back down. Byakuya, who was sitting beside him, stands up and heads over to the pair.

"Please, accept our condolences." He hears the old man say them before hugging [Name] who hugs him back, her hands clenching onto Byakuya tightly.

Senku isn't quite sure how to comfort her, especially when it comes to something like death.

After a couple of hours, Senku and Byakuya get ready to leave, "I hope...[Name] feels better. This is hard on everyone." Byakuya tells [Name]'s father, who just nods, smiling sadly as the three look at [Name], who hasn't moved from her spot, her head bowed in front of the alter, the small robot held in her arms tightly, kneeling on the floor.

"We'll be going all night." Senku looks at her dad.

"We'll come to the funeral ceremony."

The two men speak among themselves more, Senku was debating if he should go to [Name] and try to offer some words of comfort.

He felt a hand on his head; it was her father, "Go. She needs you." He says to him, the way her dad is smiling slightly, clearly trying to be strong for his daughter.

Without a word, he slowly walks over to the [H/C] haired girl, sitting down beside her.

It didn't even seem like she realized his presence, clearly in a daze, until he called out to her.

She slowly looks up, and his heart drops slightly upon seeing the girl look so....defeated, the tear stains and the puffy eyes....he can't stand to see her like this.

He gently caresses her face, and this makes her break down again; tears swell in her eyes as he wraps his arms around her, cradling her close, as she cries, face buried in his black clothes; hearing those cries of pure sadness makes his own start to tear up.

And for once in his life, he cried slightly with her.

It's been around three months or so. [Name] sat in his room, watching as he worked on his next science experiment; she's been staying at his home more these last few weeks.

She hasn't been herself since the day of the funeral. He gets it, but...

"Hey, it would be great if you could make me a robot." [Name] looks away from his experiment to look in his eyes. "Like a robot assistant." He thinks out loud.

The girl looks away at this, clearly fidgeting nervously.

"...I....I'm not sure, I don't think my robots are that good. I can ask my dad for the latest one for you instead." She says quietly.

He hadn't seen her work on her blueprints nor asked him for help on certain things.

"How so? Since you have access to the latest technology, your robots are high-tech." He says, picking his ear.

[Name] bit her lip, gripping her shoulder as she refused to look him in the eyes.

Senku blinked, seeing the expression she was making; those dark eye bags of hers never went away, and she looked pale. "....[name]?" He calls out quietly; he stops what he's doing and goes over to her.

The girl purses her lips tightly. "....my robots won't help you. It didn't help Grandpa Joel."

Her voice cracks at this.

Senku's brows furrow at this. "You made that robot to help him with his memory, not his health. You didn't know he was going to collapse in the garden." He says to her.

"I should've added that to the robot before giving it to him." She says, hugging herself. "I should've known at his age that—"

Senku sighs, "Get over it. How were you supposed to know?" He says frustrated.

The [H/C] haired girl froze at this, clearly not expecting him to be blunt about death itself.

"Grandpa Joel is dead, and you're telling me to get over it?" She stands up suddenly, tearing up.

The white-green-haired boy looks up at her, "I didn't mean it like that, you know that. What I'm trying to say is that moping around isn't going to help."

He stands up as well, clearly annoyed and frustrated. Senku knows she's grieving, but the old man wouldn't want her to give up on her passion.

"Grandpa Joel wouldn't want you to just give up and bury yourself in sadness." He tries to reason with her.

"How would you know what he wants for me? He wasn't your family; he was mine, and I failed him with my stupid robot that didn't even work when something serious happened."

She yells at him, her eyes getting blurry with tears.

"Everyone dies. It's the natural cycle of life."

[Name]'s hand turns into a fist as she tries not to cry in front of him, "him. You, me, everyone is bound to die, so get it through that thick head of yours and stop thinking his death was your fault!" Senku says to her, clearly getting frustrated with this whole situation.

Downstairs, Byakuya looks towards the stairs leading upstairs, hearing the shouting get louder. He gets up and heads over to Senku's science room. He knocks before opening the door. He stares at the scene; the two are arguing, something he's never seen since they met years ago.

Suddenly, Senku says something out of pocket, being blunt as he usually is, but [Name] doesn't think so.

A loud smack is heard as tears roll down her face as she turns and runs out of the room, leaving Senku standing there, holding his red cheek as Byakuya stares at him.

It's been around a month since [Name] went back to being homeschooled, and she has completely been avoiding him and everyone else.

He's been grounded, too; after Byakuya asked what happened, he was disappointed with Senku, saying that people grieve in many ways and his words were extremely hurtful to [Name], who was clearly hurting badly.

"I think you should apologize," Taiju says. He, Senku, and Yuzuriha were at the library.

"I agree, I'm not sure how it feels to lose someone close to you, but [Name] hasn't been herself, and I'm worried," Yuzuriha says, frowning.

Senku rolls his eyes, crossing his arms, "She'll get over it... I think." He mumbles the last part to himself.

The friends are clearly not sure what to do since it's clear Senku isn't going to make the first move to apologize to the [H/C] haired girl.

Trying to get ideas, Yuzuriha pulls out her phone. [Name] had given them the latest one for Christmas, and her brows furrowed at the screen.

"Hey, didn't [Name] say she didn't want to reveal herself to the public until she was 17?" The two boys look over her shoulder to see an article.

"The sole heiress of the [L/n] company." Taiju read out loud.

The three read the article, [Name] had officially been revealed to the public and said to be moving overseas as soon as possible. They all paled at this, [Name] never told them about her moving overseas.

"You have to do something, Senku," Yuzuriha begged him, tearing up.

"You're the closest to her."

Her words echo in his head as he runs to [Name]'s house. He pants heavily, out of breath. The security guard at the entrance wasn't there, so he got in easily.

Getting to the front door, he spots a group of people, moving around suitcases and furniture.

He stops to catch his breath; the workers he's grown up around all have this guilty look, avoiding his eyes completely.

Senku looks around and finally sees [Name] walking to the car parked. He takes a step forward.

"[Name], explain yourself." He says, and upon hearing his voice, the girl stops and slightly turns her head to the side.

"You already heard it from the articles, I'm leaving." She says bluntly. "That's all there is to it."

Senku grits his teeth, "So you're just going to leave?"

[Name] slowly turns to him, and his eyes widen upon seeing her face; she looks pale, those [E/C] eyes that would stare at him with that soft gaze when he explained how certain things work from the moment they met.

"You don't need me; you're already a genius; you can do it yourself." She says quietly. "It's clear from the start we're different; you're a normal person, while I'm the heiress of a company; I don't have a choice. My creations won't help anyone, I'm destined to just make the decisions behind the scenes."

She turns back around, "I've made my decision, and I've been avoiding my duties, so it's time I leave to someday become the CEO of my dad's company."

Before she gets in the car, she looks back at him, giving him a sad smile, "Tell Taiju and Yuzuriha that I'm sorry."

Senku feels like he's glued to the ground before he finally moves his legs. He tries to reach her, but he's held back. "[Name]!" He shouts, struggling against the ones holding him back.

He could only watch as the car took [Name], his childhood friend away from him. "[Name]!"

And that was his first heartbreak.

alright costume oracle, if the black Eddie outfit isn't a flashback to the coma, what do we think that all black ensemble means??

Okay everyone, please only address me as costume oracle from now on when asking about this oskaoskaoksaosk (I'm kidding, this just made me laugh so sincerely, thank you). So, the black. First, the 611 comparison, I think the biggest giveaway that is not meant to be a flashback is his hair lol. But while they do look similar, the shirts are different, with different fabrics, different buttons, different pockets, so not the same.

Honestly, Eddie was in a lot of black in s7 and 2 out of 3 non-uniform outfits we saw from him include black tops, which is interesting considering his arc. And this isn't considering the fact that he has been wearing the black lafd top more than the navy one and the black jacket he was also in a lot.

It could 100% be the lighting but something that drew my attention right away is that black isn't all that vibrant. He was in black during most of Buck's bi arc and he meets Kim in black, but those are a lot more intense. I have a running theory that Eddie is chasing color, and at first, I thought that they were gonna put him in lighter colors during said chase. And I think I was partially right. Obviously with Eddie allowing himself joy being my biggest thing here, that baby pink color. So in my head, when he is playing in those lighting tones, he's closer.

So putting him in black, something that absorbs color and doesn't allow him to reflect anything back, a color that was very attached to him last season while he was in a relationship wasn't fully sure of or the thing with Kim is interesting. Talking about actual color theory, black is very commonly used as a color of mourning, so it could be Eddie mourning the life he doesn't want to leave behind. Black is also a color of mystery or concealment, so it could be Eddie hiding things, like the way he doesn't really want to move or be in Texas. Mostly I think that that outfit could be about a scene where Eddie is trying to resign himself to doing what he thinks is right even though he hates it, or hiding his true feelings somehow, trying to keep the peace, accept the criticism, end up back in a mind space where the belives he needs to be punished for hurting Chris. This is my safe bet. But let's say we want to be a bit more daring in our spec.

I have multiple theories about what color Eddie could be while he confronts his parents about basically stealing Chris. For instance what I nicknamed the "let's talk about if I trust you with my kid" light wash denim, since they put him in that white undershirt, light wash denim button-down combo when we first see Shannon and he doesn't want to let her see Chris, when his parents are trying to convince him to give Chris to them in 315, and for the there's nobody in this world I trust with my son more than you scene.

Other theories include a yellow color if the scene ends up attached to his queer awakening somehow, of him accepting more of who he is in a similar way they used blue with Buck throughout his coming out arc, but I'm a lot less confident on that one.

And well, some cultures have black as a color attached to rebellion, and black is also at times used to indicate power. And Eddie was in black the last time he was in Texas and he was confronting the damage his father did to him. So it could also be used as he confronts his mother, the precedent is there.

He's also in black during the dinner he tries to ask Shannon to be a family again and she asks for a divorce, so the road to acceptance there could end with black since their relationship ends and "restarts" with black, since he's also in black talking to Kim the first time. And that's interesting since he doesn't really mourn Shannon in black, the scene we have when he's confronting those feelings head-on, are not exactly black, yes, we have the black shirt in 217, but the green jacket ends up being the focus there. And as much as they seem to be trying to distance themselves from the Kim of it all, this arc also has to include letting Shannon's ghost go, so also something to think about there.

So, to recap, safe bet is Eddie in mourning for the life he left behind or hiding how much it hurts him to leave LA. Getting a bit daring, maybe Eddie having some hard conversations with his parents or finally letting go of Shannon for real.

This got long as fuck and I'm sure how much sense it makes if you're not seeing the visions in my head, but if you read this, I love you 🫶

then secondly, the sexy jessica rabbit adams hallucination. where to even start? her hallucinating adams sashaying like she's going down the catwalk? adams' bust being magnified?? this smoky look rabbit!adams gives her like she's dirt on the soles of her shoes???

the implication that park is into that, combined with the kinkiness of those black opera gloves???? it's making me go feral.

even park is like "oh holy fuck. am i gay. why does this feels gay".

look at the fear on her poor face adsfschfjk.

this is before she justifies to herself - in a classic display of comphet behaviour - that she is hallucinating adams this way bc adams is chase's wife in the hallucination. because, oh, of course it makes sense that chase the manwhore has a sexy wife!

then thirdly, there's fact that adams is the only sexy hallucination in this scene. i also find the positioning of rabbit!chase in contrast to rabbit!adams interesting here, bc of the comphet implications.

the similarity of them both being rabbits in these hallucinations (whilst house and taub are something completely different) forces you to compare how differently they are presented by park's subconscious.

like here: chase is forced into a more casual/laying-down position on the bar - when in reality he is just leaning on the bar - suggesting that park is subconsciously trying to force chase into a more sexy position in her mind. trying to make herself find him attractive.

it obviously doesn't work though, because his entire face is furry, animalistic and unappealing, with the 'what?' gesture he gives park suggesting disinterest.

this situation is reiterated again with chase biting the carrot. you can imagine this scene being sexy - phallic imagery and all that - but it just... isn't, lol. this hallucination is also over in one camera shot.

yet, park lingers on the adams hallucination. it lasts longer, and is covered across two shots, cutting to park's (for a lack of better phrasing) gay panic inbetween, implying that park's interest is more prolonged and sustained.

also, with positioning: adams in reality is already standing-up. unlike chase, she is not forced into a different position. park is seeing her as she is positioned, because that is enough for her in this fantasy.

unlike chase, adams is also incredibly attractive with certain features - like her hair and bust - exemplified, suggesting that park finds her attractive and that park pays particular attention to these features. it's like if hallucinations distort reality, this is a funfair mirror of all of adams' best features.

she is less animalistic in appearance than chase too, having only rabbit ears. she is more human and therefore more realistic - making park's attraction to her appear more realistic.

furthermore, whilst rabbit!chase shows disinterest (and possibly even annoyance) towards park, rabbit!adams puts on a fucking show for her, sashaying out a catwalk like it's a mating dance. rabbit!adams' attention is focused entirely on park throughout, suggesting that adams is interested in her. meanwhile, chase is distracted, spinning his own carrot (to say it politely) and showing disinterest in park through his 'what?' gesture.

i could go on about my thoughts on comphet park and her many boyfriends (according to her anyway, lol). i could go on about park trying to wrestle her close platonic friendship with chase into something romantic (though i don't want to shit on the chase/park lovers). however, this is already getting long.

anyway, to me, all of this is unequivocal proof of the beautiful, toxic yuri between these two. 'love is blind' is an episode of all time, amongst the park/adams hall of fame. if hallucinations (from park's own fucking subconscious) can't force her into figuring out that she wants to make sweet & nasty yuri love to adams, then love must truly be blind like this episode says.

rewatched the episode feat. Park's acid trip and we should talk about this some more, especially toxic yuri fans

ever since mr. robot used this song as the bgm for one of the scenes, i've become so obsessed with it. it's not even in my daily playlist, but i just somehow insist on making gifsets with this lyric for my favorite ships lol.

i had my struggle because this isn't exactly a happy song. and i think the song is about robots/humanoids...but i also read it somewhere that during the creation processes, at some point, they thought it was someone waking up from a long coma. and i was like...yes, that could work!

so in my mind, it's a bit of a sad story in the beginning. 200 years later, shi qiang wakes up from hibernation, and wang miao is no where to be found. so he just keeps recalling what they've been through 200 years ago. and he remembers touch...

but thanks to all fanfic writers who gave them a happy ending. wang miao later appears to welcome shi qiang either as a clone with wang miao's mind, or it's the real wang miao who also went through hibernation in secret, or it's the san junipero (from black mirror) situation, where shi qiang can visit wang miao through the system. i'm just glad we are in the scifi genre, so yep, we have a lot of room to make things better for them!

now i kinda like how liu cixin didn't mention wang miao except for that one line in the 2nd book, because that really means more freedom for us. yay!

Since I'd been talking a lot about JP Vesperia (primarily Yuri and Flynn and the heavy changes that surround them, and because I'm highly passionate about them in their original context), I wanted to compile some more jarring if not outright glaring mistakes in the localization (or what were likely intentional changes, because I can't look at some of these and just call them "mistakes"). I'm not going to mention every little change throughout the game, so smaller things I'll mostly be leaving out (namely things that don't really affect characters or context). I primarily just wanted to give some insight on some of the bigger parts.

Some of the changes seem to have been mistakes in translation itself (not just localization, but misunderstanding what was being said in general; such as, there's an instance I mention of that between Patty and Don), so I've got some mentions hanging around for clarity purposes as some scenes didn't make much sense, likely because of this.

Vocal tone with Yuri was the most prominent issue that got me making this, and the context that was changed being right after if not equally next to that (most often also with Yuri but also Flynn).

This is something that has been bothering me for a while and I've been wanting to share this stuff with people interested in seeing the game with its original context. Generally speaking, the plot and story themselves are on point. The majority of the differences surround Yuri and Flynn respectively, so there's going to be a lot of mention of them throughout.

I've also posted video clips of my favorite scenes and the heavy changes, so consider those a supplement to this and vice versa.

(Other) GTF Favorites.

I'd like to preface this by mentioning the chief director and producer of the game itself has also spoken about localization inaccuracy issues, so that's something to keep in mind (it's in Japanese, but you should be able to use the offered post translator).

I'd also like to preface this by mentioning that in the original, Yuri is more playful and relaxed/casual (generally but including with Flynn, which the dub pretty much entirely changed until arc 3), but also gentler and softer. He has a very large variety of tonal behaviors/tonal "moods" that were pretty much nuked from the dub.

Basically, to get the full experience for Yuri, I can only really recommend playing the game in JP audio. Obviously you won't get the actual context because all you'll have is the dub context, but that's also partly why I'm making these posts - to cover the contextual changes while the video clips cover some of the tonal changes (because lbh I don't expect anyone to actually go watch the entire game in JP with subtitles unless you're as insanely dedicated as I am, and I'm largely doing it out of my love for the original Yuri and Flynn and my disdain for how the localization treated them).

As a heads up, there won't be many skits in here because I'm going through a specific YT playthrough for these screenshots. Specific skits won't always come up in the playthrough in question, and I can't find a whole list of skits in JP anywhere online. I don't have all skits unlocked in my own save either yet (you can unlock all skits with Grade which I have yet to do in the DE), so I can't use that to compare all skits right now.

There are plenty of small changes here and there that I won't be including in these posts because there are some sentence changes that aren't impactful but do exist. I just don't want to be here for a year covering the random changes that don't matter much. I'm also not going to include details of a lot of honorifics because I'd be here all day, but there is one one major instance that I mention later on.

For reference if anything wants to actually watch the game in JP with the subs (it goes until just after Hypionia), most of the references come from here. Since in some cases the subber just reused localized text even when the context wasn't the same, I did bring some of those up in these posts too. These were subbed before the DE version came out. I used screenshots with subs where possible to make it easier to follow along.

I have a lot of passion for JP Yuri and I hope I can pass on some of that passion to others. 🙏

Apologies in advance if some of these sound cranky. If I sound cranky about some specific changes, it's probably because I am.

Since I talked about the whole, Raven being shady and Yuri therefore not being grateful to him incident that the localization for some reason butchered and made Yuri sound like a generally ungrateful or just outright dumb person who doesn't understand gratitude, I'll summarize that one again here:

Yuri has a skit with Estelle originally talking about how he can't find himself being grateful to someone like Raven for showing him how to sneak out of the castle. Basically, Raven is shady and he's not sure he should be grateful to someone like that, and is confused as to why Estelle would be so grateful when she doesn't even know him (because in his mind, he isn't sure he wants to trust a guy with those vibes). The dub just kinda... makes him sound like an ungrateful jerk and not so much because he's not sure he wants to trust Raven. It doesn't really sound like it's an issue of his with Raven specifically but more that he just generally doesn't feel grateful for the aid (and that in general one shouldn't feel grateful for aid like this), which gives off a really wrong impression of him that doesn't hold up throughout the game. Yuri wasn't wholly ungrateful for the gesture itself, but because of who it came from (and I imagine a weird peppy guy in jail is good cause to be skeptical).

We start off we a classic "Yuri, you idiot!" that was changed to "come on already!".

Yuri's response to Estelle mentioning he'd been in the knights doesn't actually give a time frame for how long he'd been there (the dub made up three months, but there was never originally even a time frame given).

Here when Yuri asks Estelle why she can't just leave, her response indicates she actually does know why. The dub made it more ambiguous, which could be easily misinterpreted as she really doesn't know, so I'm dropping this one here.

For some reason the localization seemed to have Estelle responding to Karol directly about the ace always performing their attack last ("I don't think so"). What she was referring to was the tiny monster that walked by, asking for confirmation that that monster was not the eggbear they were looking for (I wasn't gonna fight with the video to get a better screenshot without the annoying YT red bar in the way so the monster is in the corner mid-movement lol). Not sure if that was a genuine mistake, but it was an odd one.

(Also, side note and not putting an image here because it's more general, but Yuri refers to Karol as "Karol-sensei" which was translated in the localization to "Captain Karol". Basically, Yuri calls him "sensei" because that's a teacher/professor, and he's making a play on Karol's knowledge and being their "teacher" about monsters/maps/etc.)

I'd say this is more along the lines of overexaggerating and not overreacting, but this line was literally changed to "haha" in the dub. The whole point wasn't that Yuri just brushed her comment off or found it funny. At this point he still literally thinks she's exaggerating about her lack of knowledge out in the world, her excitement, etc.

Not the only instance you'll find of the dub just changing entire sentences to something meaningless as if they ??? didn't know what it meant (they actually changed Patty saying an entire sentence to "aye"). In some cases they added entire sentences that weren't even there...

Even though I can kind of see where they went with the dub here, the point was supposed to be that Flynn actively thought he would be happy for Yuri to go outside the barrier and see the world.

The dub changed this to Flynn saying that he, in the now, is happy that Yuri is outside the barrier, but then says he got a little less happy when he saw the wanted poster, indicating he was previously happy but got less happy, yet says in that moment that he is happy.

It's a weird case of (past/present) tense usage for the most part, but they also removed the fact that Flynn is literally saying "I thought I would be happy" (thus expressing he'd been wanting Yuri to see the world outside the barrier and would've been happy to find out he did). The reason he's not finding himself happy is because of the wanted poster and the crimes listed on it, following up that his honest happiness for Yuri (ultimately because of the poster) was a lie.

This also means they removed Flynn expressing the honesty of his happiness for a positive concept for Yuri, which, given all the changes toward Flynn in the dub, already now takes away from the fact that he'd been actively hoping for good things for someone and we're left with this more sarcastic take on him being "happy".

Obviously his happiness wasn't really a lie because most of the crimes were falsified (primarily the ones that would make him actually mad, because Flynn has had to have been aware this whole time that Yuri has committed small time crimes for the past few years now), but at the time, the focus on this conversation is that Flynn thought he'd be happy at a time that Yuri left the barrier; meaning he'd been hoping for it prior to it happening.

I'm also mentioning it because it's the very first in a whole line of changes the dub made to their relationship (and it's their first in game interaction ffs) and to Flynn himself as he's perceived as a character. The original is much more expressive of how important they are to each other in a lot of various ways.

This was changed to "damn, we if lose our balance...". I know they did it because Yuri had just fallen over, but I'm including this one because the context isn't... really the same thing?

This dub change is a bit odd to me. They had him saying something along the lines of "she is a princess after all" in the dub, regarding the council backing her.

The original context is more like, the council is backing her and he's hearing it directly from Ioder and he probably doubts Ioder would lie like that or about that, cementing that yes, she truly is, like he suspected, a princess, but it's almost still a bit odd to know. It's sort of like, he knew/had suspicions but hearing it directly from Ioder just confirms it for certain.

The dub just made it sound like well yeah, it's obvious they'd want to back her, she's a princess... but Ioder is a prince, so that doesn't explain why they're not backing him. She is a princess after all, so of course they'd back her... but what's stopping them from backing the prince?

Another weird one for me. In the dub Yuri says that "even the Commandant was a little in over his head", when he actually... really wasn't? All he did was step in. Things got bad enough that he had to, but he wasn't in over his head. Not sure how or why the dub ended up with that.

An example of the dub having a habit of just adding in random lines that didn't actually exist (and in this case the one added didn't even contextually make sense. This was no thank you from him, this was literally him making Yuri do something for him because he was going to ask Flynn for a favor and ended up with Yuri in the cell instead).

Another super weird one in the dub. They had Yuri saying Flynn was "too" late, implying he hadn't made it in time, but he did. He made it just before the battle started, but the original context only says he's late, not too late (which makes sense given that they were ready to fight but hadn't started yet).

This was changed to Yuri just mentioning there was one way they could get out of there without actually saying what it was, and Judith saying if he thinks it might work what's the harm in trying it out. Not sure why they changed Yuri literally telling her his plan, so... again, a super weird change that I don't get why they didn't just keep the context the way it was.

Third image was changed to "someone get me away from this psycho", which... I also don't get why they put that there unless they just wanted so much flavor text that they wanted to change the whole "they're in a fight and he's telling her not to come over here because he's pissed at her because they're fighting" part of the fake fight they had going on.

Not one I have a huge problem with, but definitely good examples of them going out of their way to change just... perfectly normal stuff that literally has no reason to be changed? Some of it is flavor text and some of it feels over the top for me. Stuff that makes me like... why would you change that when there was no reason to? Could be more of a personal pet peeve of mine, but I just don't like unnecessary changes when there was nothing wrong or odd about the original text and doesn't at all come off odd in English. Unfortunately Vesperia got littered with those.

I didn't feel like getting a whole video for this, but basically Judith gives a little laugh instead of just the more upset/distressed(?) sound she made in the dub. Feels more fitting imo to keep up the "lie" Yuri started for her. The dub makes it seem more like she feels guilty, versus here she's giving a little forced giggle to go along with it. Again, a change I'm not sure why they put in.

Ngl I get completely different vibes from these. The JP comes across more as concern, rather than... treating them like they're some mob on the loose...?

Once again, this gives off negative vibes toward Flynn as a character imo.

Here Judith gives more of a reason for coming with them, which they changed in the dub to "with the circumstances being what they are, this is just how things turned out". Reasonably, she didn't have to stick around after they ran from Dahngrest, but here she gives a quick "reason".

The dub changed this to "I'll bet he is". They were just told he's the current magistrate in Heliord, and all Yuri says here expresses he's letting it sink in and realizing exactly why all this is happening here. It's not a huge story beat or anything that gets changed, but it's an example of changing things that don't need to be changed as if trying to play things up in a way that... doesn't feel necessary to me? In this case the situation is kind of dawning on Yuri as he realizes how bad this situation could be/why it's like it is, but in the dub it comes across as more just unimpressed and "of course he'd do that".

An unfortunate, classic moment of them changing how much Yuri believes in and trusts Flynn. They changed this to "gotta run, Flynn!" and he just... leaves. I'm sorry but in what universe does "leave the rest to you" equal "gotta run"???

This one is one of those cases where the localization text was super awkward and wonky, and worse, they actually voiced it that way (like "we have guild's job to deal with". Yes, they actually voiced it that way too on top of everything else grammatically wonky with the entire conversation that they didn't bother fixing when the DE came out).

Also here, they changed what Yuri says about Cumore and Flynn. "I don't know how I could explain this to Flynn" doesn't, at least to me, carry the same weight as Yuri actually feeling ashamed (in the dub he says "what a shame", but does not express shame, versus him saying "how pathetic" and expressing shame in feeling pathetic) and saying he can't even face Flynn because Cumore got away. The thing is, Yuri does tend to posture, so when he fails at something, it hits him pretty hard.

And let's be honest, this just hits way harder than "he will get what he deserves".

Interestingly, Yuri could also fall into the category of viewing himself as sinful later on, which I talk about in my favorites post and the usage of "crime" and "sin" within the JP context.

Not particularly important, but just another (more mild) case and example of how the dub just randomly changed tone/mood/wording for no reason.

Another case of Yuri being more aggressive in the dub than he actually was. Here, all he says is just a plain statement. In the dub, he has an attitude about it and says it in a tone that's more insulting that Ioder didn't know about Heracles.

This isn't the only case of dub Yuri acting aggressively toward Ioder when he wasn't supposed to be and we'll get to that, but Ioder is another similar case of the dub making Yuri unnecessarily vocally rude (despite that Ioder is very polite toward Yuri).

(I left out the subtitles because all they did was copy the dub's localization, which kinda defeats the point of this post LOL. This will be the case going forward for any same circumstances.)

This one's a more interesting tidbit to me and less of a harmful change (i.e. I find that a lot of if not most changes relative to Flynn do more harm than good when compared with the original context). Basically it's saying "sweet mask and sharp eyes", implying Flynn's sweet face is a mask and saying it contrasts with his sharp eyes. I could get into a whole rant about why I love that in relation to some side material, but even in the game itself, there's the knight Flynn with his sweet, polite side and his real side that only shows when he's around Yuri (basically, who Flynn has to be for his job and who he actually is as a person, which he only gets to be around someone who knows the real him).

I'd guess this got changed in the dub because they weren't sure how to word it, though there's no mention of "heartthrob" here at all and instead actually says "sweet mask" as if, again, to say his sweetness is just a mask. It's actually a very interestingly accurate representation of his character - how he tends to not be himself when he's being "knight Flynn", and how that sweet face is contrasted by the look in his eyes (which they say, you know, eyes are the windows to the soul, so this would imply the sweet face is the mask and the eyes are the real Flynn. And of course, this Flynn is implied to show himself in his sparring with Yuri in Aurnion, where sword fighting is the best way to express himself. This isn't to say Flynn being a nice person in and of itself is a lie, but that his overly polite, respectful, kind knight side is a sweet mask contrasted to the man who loves to fight and has a sharp look in his eyes)
