Jegulus Celebrity (?) AU where the Marauders are a band, Jamed is a singer-songwriter, and Regulus has a podcast

Regulus is 23 and has an anonymous podcast called the Black Lake. Mostly, he goes on tangents about songs, current events, and poetry, and people listen to a faceless man because it's just so damn interesting

And if James is a little obsessed with it? If he listens to each episode, no matter what it's about, as soon as it's released because the host of the Black Lake has a dangerously addictive voice and he can't sleep without hearing it? If there's something infinitely captivating about hearing him analyze James' songs and their lyrics and what he thinks they mean and just getting it?

Regulus doesn't do interviews despite popular request because he just doesn't want to. James says fuck it and sends an email asking for one anyway. Except there's a catch: He'll be interviewed and answer anything, as long as Regulus shows at least half of his face

And, look, Regulus isn't stupid. He keeps tabs on the Marauders because of his brother, though they haven't spoken since Sirius ran away from home and Regulus became a ghost. Knows James is Sirius' best friend. But he's also hot. An excellent songwriter. A great singer. All things Regulus admirers

So they do an interview and people go fucking crazy because it's famous, elusive James Potter and effortlessly sly and charming Host of the Black Lake and -

are they flirting?

Apparently the bottom half of Regulus' face is all James needed to say

"You look like someone I know."

"Calling my face boring, Potter?"

"On the contrary, I'm calling your face beautiful. And I'd like for it to be a familiar as well."

The interview goes viral. Regulus asks the best, most thought-provoking questions and their chemistry is off the fucking charts

Except a couple months pass and then James Potter releases a single where one of the verses is "And you scoff and twist your lips / In your mind love is just a myth / The words 'don't expect forever / Because this is only for the summer'"

And people lost it once more. They ask Regulus to review the song, as he has done for so much of the Marauders' music in the past. And he does. Says the lyrics describe the situation of two crazy kids thinking they can make it work without thinking of the consequences of their actions

Then journalist Rita Skeeter writes an artical exposing the host of the Black Lake to be famous exiled heir Regulus Black, brother to Sirius Black, ex boyfriend to Sirius' best friend James Potter. Calls James many not nice things

And Regulus responds, quite reasonably he feels, with a podcast episode verbally dragging the shit out of her. Calls her a conniving, thoughtless bitch who relies on sensationalism to keep herself popular because she has no real personality to stand on. Demands she keeps James Potter out of her articles because his name alone is much prettier than anything she could ever write, and she'll embarrass herself trying

And if James finds this undeniably hot? If he calls Regulus later saying thank you? Well, then that's for just them to know

But there is song that releases two months after, the closing lyric being

(Gi-Hun + In-ho) X daughter Reader

Summary: You’ve got two daddies, they both love you unconditionally and they both want what’s best for you…. Even if it undermines the other.

• Ever since you came into their lives, whether by adoption, or surrogacy, genetic mutation, WHATEVER. You are their pride and joy. Everything they do, use to be driven by survival instincts, but now, everything they do is for their little princess 👑

•When you were just a little thing Gi-hun dotted on you the most. You were stuck to him like glue. He didn’t care if it made him look girly he wore that damn baby chest carrier thing everywhere. In the car he sat in the back with you keeping you entertained while In-ho drove.

When he drove, I should say, otherwise he was back there making you two follow standard driving laws…. Like how you had to be in a car seat….. and Gi-hun currently had you in his lap….. while he was unbuckled. He had to get you out of this pink onesie! He could see you were uncomfortable and just had to change you so you would be happy! He needs his baby happy.

• In-ho on the other hand did a lot of the more calculated baby stuff. Scheduling your doctor appointments, watching what times you ate exactly at, how much you ate etc. They would switch off whose turn it would be to give you a bath or read to you or put you to sleep.

• If In-ho couldn’t give you his full attention while he did something than that something wasn’t important enough to deem his precious shared attention. You where his everything all the time.

•Inside your shared living space on the island where the only people you would ever need in your life. Appa and Papa. Nothing else in the outside world ever bothered them or you.

• GI-hun was always the parent you went to first. Didn’t matter if he was using the bathroom or trying to eat, he was choice #1. Then would be In-ho. Kinda like a mom and dad dynamic.

• Appa does the silly voices with your bedtime stories maybe even some finger puppets. Meanwhile Papa prefers to cuddle you to sleep, or to brush out your hair, he just helps you calm down by before a more consistent and constant presence. So while Gi-hun is making a show out of showing you how the princess defeated the witch, In-Ho is keeping you in bed, and gently petting your hair and covering your ears when Gi-hun gets a lil too loud.

• Gi-hun wasn’t able to give his first daughter everything she ever wanted, then again, he felt he wasn’t given a fair chance to try and raise her. So with you, he’s doing his best to not spoil the absolute hell out of you while still remaining a bit strict.

• He gives you basic ass household chores and pretty low standards for grades, even though you still excel, and he raised you to be good, so you’re pretty much always on your best behavior. That being said your allowance and earnings are at least x10 that of a normal kid.

• Your classmate got $20 once for doing all the dirty dishes and they acted like they were on top of the world. In your own mind however you were a bit class blind by that. You were so confused why they were only given $20.

• Because of his view on society In-ho doesn’t view your people as “friends”. He see’s them just like the rest of the world and in his mind has made up that your the leader of your little friend group just like how he’s the boss of his workers. So if he were to take you out of that school or daycare he wouldn’t see it as much of a problem.

• Where Gi-hun lacks in restraint and uncertainty, In-ho makes up for it in sterner parenting and guidance.

• One night they’re at the dinner table discussing what to get you for getting straight A’s this last semester. Gi-hun suggests a relaxing vacation, somewhere simple and close to home in Korea. In-Ho immediately over rides that decision and is already purchasing tickets to the Caribbean under the table. First class with a spa and snacks and all your favorite sweets. Ya know what fuck it, he doesn’t want to deal with people right now, we’ll just take the private jet. So what if it belongs to the “squid games” company name, he owns the games.

Scenario

Gi-hun had you by your upper arm pulling you into the apartment, your Papa sat on his chair watching the current games as the two of you stormed in.

“Do you have any idea what she just did?” Gi-hun will question his partner looking as In-Ho sighed and opened his texts to see what you undoubtedly texted your more lenient parent.

“She kicked that bully at her game.” He affirmed without looking up.

“She KICKED the bully AT HER GAME.” He loudly stated. In-ho titled just his eyes up to meet the taller man’s.

“So?” He shrugged. Gi-hun just stood there gapping his mouth like a fish.

“It wasn’t even with the game it was off to the side when the ball rolled out of bounds!” He angrily declared. You just looked exasperated between to two of them before bowing your head to apologize.

“I’m sorry Papa, I’m sorry Appa. I shouldn’t have kicked her” you stood straight again keeping your head down waiting for your father’s understanding punishment.

“Forgiven, go change out of that sweaty gear and get ready for dinner.” In-ho calmly stated, walking over the place a kiss on the top of your head before making his way back to his chair. With a small smile you turned and quickly slipped away before Gi-hun could duel out his own punishment. From the background you could hear them still going.

“She wouldn’t resort to physical violence if someone is upsetting her.” Gi-hun angrily spoke out.

“Mhm” In-ho simply nodded his head before making his own point, “how many other parents complain to you as well about that other kid? Hm? We should be grateful the ONLY thing she did was kick them.” He replied coming to your defense making you cheer internally before he spoke up again.

“If you want to punish her so bad for getting physical with another kid don’t let her go to the next game, her attitude may change but the kid won’t.” He sternly replied heading towards their shared room to fix his own appearance before you all sat down to eat.

• When you start puberty they don’t touch that with a 39 and a half foot pole. Not because they don’t love you. They still do everything the same for you…. GI-hun just brings his friend Sae-Byeok into the picture.

• It’s like the Wild West in the apartment. Her on one side, you on the other, your dads standing in the middle out of the way. Normally they just handed you both a wad of cash and let you go out to do whatever it is you needed to do but this time she said she only had a few minutes and would just stop in.

“Catch” she nonchalantly told you, grabbing the bag from the air you opened it and saw a few different types of…. What is this exactly?

“Deodorant, you stink kid, your bodies maturing and this is just one of the first things.” She shrugs, walking out of the building. The two gays in the corner clutch to eachother in worry at your reaction as you delicately held the bars like they were poison. Within a few sniffs you were taking it to your room contently at your favorite smells.

• Your their favorite person and their your favorite people. Just because you didn’t grow up with a mother figure doesn’t mean you’re not well balanced. They both take adequate care of themselves and you.

Star of Beethoven wins "crazy but fun"

The art style does a good job of making Beethoven stand out from all the other characters, and the premise seems intriguing. Beethoven especially is excellently written, and you can tell that the idea as a whole comes from sincere love.

But my God, is Beethoven a freak. It's awesome.

Embers wins "yeah, I figured"

This was a predictable trajectory for the series to take, but it was predictable for a reason - it's a good idea. The comedy was good, I like the new characters, and that spread of stealing the ball was great. I hope the author can keep this up.

One Piece wins "best character intro"

Gaban seems fun. He's got some excellent parallels to Sanji, but his general vibe is his own, and I love him for it.

Sakamoto Days wins "best beatdown"

The two sides of this chapter were both great. We get more confirmation on Shin's past (there was always a high likelihood he was a JAA orphan, probably al-kamar), and both the bubble gunshot and this waterslide combo were great fun. Suzuki's art is always so kinetic.

Kagurabachi wins "my god he's so fucked up"

Going from discussing school and specifically pointing out that Iori and Chihiro are the same age to the rapid switch to... This; it puts into perspective just how fucked Chihiro's life is.

Meanwhile, we get a better view of Hiruhiko's philosophy and style, showing how it differs from Chihiro's, and sets them up for a rapid confrontation.

Blue Box wins "oof ouch my feels"

This was a great cooldown chapter after the game. I'm not really sure what else to say.

Ichi The Witch wins "Oh she got one of them traumas"

This is such an effective set of panels. His name, the single memory, then that tiny panel of blood and the wine splashing over him...

GOD, it's so fucking GOOD!

Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi wins "best singular attack"

The Thirteen Club is great, but this spread from Hijiri had to be my pick simply because of how effective it was. I can already picture it in motion, and it's yet another example of this series' "School Notebook aesthetic".

Akane-Banashi is runner-up on "best character intro"

Taison is fun, and it's great to use him to show general perception of Akane. I hope she knocks Rien's fucking socks off.

Witch Watch wins "author filibuster"

Sometimes I forget about this whole subplot of the manga writer. This was definitely... A choice, for ways to bring it back, though.

Anne of the Island, by L.M. Montgomery

Anne of the Island, Chapter Six! 

Getting so very close to being finally caught up. 🫡 I’m still in the book clubs dust, but if I squint, I think I can almost see you guys! Apologies to anyone that might see this, that might’ve already previously (and punctually!) shared a sentiment that I spent any amount of time reinforcing in my own posts. I haven’t skimmed the book club’s tag so far, just because I have this brain impediment where if I see someone else has already mentioned something I think, “...oh excellent! Now I needn’t bother!”, only, that everyone is so thorough that if I did go ahead and look at them, and saw everyone’s thoughts, I’m sure I’d find I had nothing left to speak on. A serial liking of all book club posts, coming soon to a notif near you, honestly.  

Some weensy Phil bullets: mostly that well, I persist in representing Team Alec (only until a certain long-legged Minister appears, of course), because here is a fellow who would at least find the mix-up of Phil’s letter postscripts “funny.” This puts him eons and miles and worlds ahead of Alonzo imo... a sense of humour is so necessary!  

Speaking of Redmond football, an insignificant matter that is once again very much nonsense and not particularly worthy of spending any large amount of much time reflecting on, yet remains a great area of interest for me personally... guys, what do we reckon the Redmond Football mascot was? Team name? I know there’s future canon abbreviation of Redmond students as “Reds,” but a colour is hardly a sufficient team name, nor do I really think it’s meant to be taken as such, and listen, no one even think of mentioning the stinking Cleaveland Browns football team to me, lmao.  

“That Gilbert of yours.” + “outraged Anne” AIR KISS to these lines specifically.  

“But Sloane was blissfully ignorant; he thought he was quite a fine fellow to be walking with two such coeds, especially Philippa Gordon, the class beauty and belle. It must surely impress Anne. She would see that some people appreciated him at his real value.” Oh, Charlie. I constantly waffle between feeling pity for Charlie, the butt of many-a-joke, and then also feeling that wellllllll his ego is a little bit exaggerated perhaps - although I suppose we get a clearer sense of that later on. Since all of Avonlea knows that Gilbert’s dead-gone on Anne, to the point of pubic heckling in a Charlottetown newspaper, we must recognise that in Charlie’s mind, he’s in active competition with Gilbert, who has certainly loved Anne the longer. Not an ounce of discernable bro-code anywhere.   

Gilbert quoting some Bret Harte verses to Anne. This boy might not have a propensity for writing original poetry, but his memorisation and ability to drop a line or two so easily? He’s got a romantic soul, for sure. In a lot of ways, between him and Anne, it’s actually Gilbert that’s the romantic one (also see: keeping the rose that fell from her hair, back at the White Sands recital), and Anne the steady practical.  

“Gilbert, who could not connect the idea of sorrow with the vivid, joyous creature beside him, unwitting that those who can soar to the highest heights can also plunge to the deepest depths, and that the natures which enjoy most keenly are those which also suffer most sharply.” This is heavy. But more than anything, something I very much enjoy about Maud’s work is her ability to maintain core characterisation. I see this line, and I also think of how much it (later) casts light onto Gilbert’s struggle to really relate to some of Walter’s Anneishness. There’s a wonderful yin and yang balance between the slinky black cats and golden retrievers of the world, and often enough they are deeply attracted to each other, but there are some differences that can never been fully reconciled.  

The matter of Spofford Avenue! Again the scholars have already done a ton of the legwork, and lots of preliminary digging into Maud’s journals, picking out real-life links between between her time in Halifax and how it corresponds to Anne’s… and they’ve decided, very logically, that Spofford Avenue was based on Young Avenue.

At the time, Halifax was one of the richest cities in Canada and building on Young Avenue, definitely reserved for prominent families and the wealthiest, apparently came with enough beautification restrictions to satisfy even the choosiest A.V.I.S. member, only of a few of which I can easily remember… that power poles were banned on the basis of being “unsightly,” for starters. I know there’s a whole essay dedicated to the ‘real’ Kingsport somewhere, and if I can find it instead of just my jumbled notes & misc. folder on it, I’ll be sure to share it in case anyone’s interested. 🧐 I also recall that a very real tobacco king called Alexander Hobrecker (‘Hobrecker House’) did indeed make residence on Young Avenue, though whether or not he really had an affinity for well-made country quilts, is anyone’s guess.

Nico's expression settled into an uncertain grimace, nose slightly wrinkled and a corner of his mouth pinched back. He couldn't tell if the woman was pulling his leg or actually serious, but either way, he still thought his assessment was correct. There were different kinds of weird after all, and at least this shopkeeper was a cool weird.

"That's her name?" he asked, eyes widening slightly as she got the answer correct right away. "She looked like she thought I was going to steal something the whole time I was there and had me empty out my pockets before I left. What's her deal?"

Nico didn't miss the way her story suddenly stopped before she said whatever juicy details she had about Ann. From the way she described the sewing store owner, that only bolstered Nico's opinion of her though.

Shaking his head at the question, his eyes flicked to the window as if checking for something. "No, I don't need a phone." Which was to say that a phone could only really make things worse, and then the lady might see some really weird stuff.

"Is there a place to eat nearby?" he asked instead.

Like you’re no longer burdened by your pre-war self. A miserable person, though loving of her husband, who never got to be who they wanted to be. Or maybe never thought about it to begin with. But the wasteland? well all the structures of society that held her back before aren’t there anymore. No one knows who you are, only that you’re someone looking for your lost son and maybe that you were cryogenically frozen. Your husband is dead. Your kid wouldn’t know whether or not you’re his mom or dad, he’s a baby! It’s a clean slate isn’t it? Codsworth wouldn’t give a damn, if anything he’d put on that cheery voice qnd be proud of you…

Might make you seem less frail to the people who stole your son? Maybe they don’t recognize you, or rather, maybe they see the wasteland hasn’t killed you so much as hardened you to a fine point. I mean there’s a film noir detective running around, a zombie as mayor of an entire town, huge green dudes, and giant fucking murder lizards around. You’re only going to be half the freakiest thing around. Besides! People are getting swapped out for fakes, you’re all starving and dehydrated, radiation poisoning is constant threat, and people constantly attack each other to get any resources they can. You’re hardly their biggest worry at the moment, right?

Now that I think about it, the sole survivor is a fun character to make trans. Hmmmm.

I know Rick has decided that Percy will be perpetually 17, but I do love thinking about how old Percy would be right now according to his birth year--1993. He and Annabeth are in their thirties now, they've both graduated from university. Annabeth is the biggest name on the architecture scene and Percy has found a career in something he excels at and loves (perhaps marine biology, but in my personal headcanon, being a social worker for kids from bad situations). They still catch up with Grover and their many demigod friends often and enjoy the relative peace and quiet with all the prophecies falling onto the next generation of demigods.

They've got a little apartment with their wedding photos on the walls and weapons ready on the sideboard just in case any monster foolishly dares to attack the greatest demigods of all time. They volunteer at Camp Half Blood throughout the year as mentors and trainers, and Annabeth is helping to design an extension to make the camp a city for demigods like New Rome. Young demigods revere them as even more amazing than their own godly parents, but Mr. D always complains that the two are still just as rowdy and mischievous as they were when they were kids. Maybe they have already have a kiddo themselves or plans to have one soon.

Guys, they are living their happily ever after right now. It makes me so happy.
