Do not trust her little prince.
She will betray you, my liege.
She is envious of your power. She despises you. She will do everything in her power to take it from you.
Still... even a snake can be useful. It would be a mistake to get rid of her now.
The words of Koume and Kotake both echoed through his mind. They were his caretakers, his guardians, his mothers who had raised him after his own had died to tragically during childbirth. He knew that he owed them everything he had; they had been the ones to train him in his magic and teach him about the significance of his birth, and the power and prophecies he was meant to fulfill.
Ganondorf Dragmire was the King of the Gerudo. They must bow to him - it was their law. And had he not been born, it was likely that Nabooru would have been in his place instead.
She did not seem like a snake to him. She seemed smart and incredibly devoted to her people. But they said-
It was late, and the desert turned to near-ice when the sun was no longer up in the sky. Ganondorf had turned his gaze up to the sky as he thought, and it was only after a long moment that he voiced his words out loud.
"This war has gone on long enough. Surrender... is the best option for the future of our people."

@unblemisheddesertflower asked: "How charming. How utterly charming."you are invited to a royal ball
The Princess of Hyrule was surprised when Nabooru had actually agreed to attend the ball that was being held at Hyrule Castle. More surprising than her attendance were the words that slipped past her fellow sage’s lips. The crimson-haired warrior wore, from what the Hylian gathered, traditional Gerudo attire, though this particular outfit seemed dressier than Nabooru’s every day wear, and Zelda presumed similar attire would be seen at festivals and other special occasions that were celebrated by the desert dwellers.
Her initial surprise melts away to a playful smirk as she lets out a soft laugh at her companion’s side.
“Nabooru, did I hear you refer to a Hylian male as charming just now? Or do my ears deceive me?” The words are said in a teasing manner as the two stand to the side of the dance floor. The throne room was currently alive with a jaunty melody, and guests flitted back and forth either in dance or to mingle with the other partygoers.
Though she was certain Nabooru spoke of the entire gathering when she’d made her comment, Zelda hadn’t been able to resist a playful jab. “Hopefully you will find that our balls are not…drastically different from your own celebrations.” While she hadn’t a doubt there were many differences between the two cultures, there had to be some similarities as well.
“Music, a gathering of people in celebration of some occasion, food, special dances, and spirits — the kind you drink, of course. Those pieces seem to be pretty universal across most races.”

@unblemisheddesertflower sent: 🕯 for Riju send 🕯 to hear my characters inner thoughts about yours [ accepting ]
"I have doubts that I will ever repay her enough for giving me the chance to live and, in living, atone for what was done in rage. She is still very young, but she is ten times the leader I could be. I grew up isolated from our people, taught old ways best left in the past - she grew up as part of the world and understands the needs of our people far more than I."
"I... admit I am envious of her - raised with care, loved, and trusted. I feel like the black sheep of the family, to turn a Hylian phrase, where Riju is the favored."
"And yet, even with the envy I feel, I do feel as though she is - I liken her to a younger sister. Perhaps because I was raised alone, it has been easy to me to think of her as a sibling."

sundial / accepting / @unblemisheddesertflower ( Yrelsi )
"The past always has its hands around your neck, doesn't it?"
This is a truth better left with the dead, the way it rots amidst his thoughts.
It used to feel enormous. Inescapable. Every piece of every memory, melded, looming like long, distorted shadows in the dusklight. Before this, he would flee from that grasp, reaching for something immutable of his own, and drown before he could touch the shoreline each time. Before this — before everything — those hands of the past were his: heavy, smothering, and stained through to the bone with cruor.
Nowadays, they're smaller.
They feel like hands he once held. Once kissed. Once treasured, revered, loved. When the past laces its fingers around his neck, he lets them burn brands into his flesh; lets them peel back layers to tear anything he might dare to protest with apart; lets them sink their bite into his veins — so firmly that they puncture and staunch all at once. They are cold, unforgiving, and entirely deserving to dole out all that they do.
He smiles. A brittle wall: it shows, and means, nothing. Ally though Chieftain Yrelsi has proven to be, Rauru is not so heedless to think she asks this in any earnest concern for him. This polite distance is their kindness, sufficient in a war that offers and would offer them none. "Does it not make captives of us all?"

❝ some of my ghoul friends are having me for dinner. ❞ - @unblemisheddesertflowerNabporu
Meme Tag -- @unblemisheddesertflower
"Oh, that should be fun," Nico replied before he paused to squint at the woman. "Did you mean have you over for dinner or have you as dinner?" he asked, suddenly very concerned about the answer. "Because we could find some chips and Dr. Pepper or something for them to eat. Ghouls like that just as much."

@unblemisheddesertflower ( buliara ) // sc.
when yona was told she had a visitor to the domain from the desert, there was very little she could do to calm her heart and the blood it madly pumped — why, she felt flushed through all her gills. no name was given by the guard who fetched her — it could have been anyone. any gerudo. and not specifically the one she had sent an absolutely atrociously syrupy letter to.
alas, it was. there stood buliara, in all her beauty. yona had only just managed to force her composure back into order to allow herself to step out of the throne room. she quickly turned her head, looking back towards sidon who, of course, remained — he gave her a wide - toothed grin and a fist of encouragement. right. she could do this.
regardless of the way her heart barreled through her chest, yona was genuinely happy to see buliara once more. and, fortunately, that excitement came through in her voice rather than her anxiety.
"lady buliara!" she greeted, a large smile splitting her mouth to show off rows of serrated teeth, "how nice it is to see you again!"
she cleared her throat, that nervousness creeping up her neck again in the form of flushing blood. "to what do i owe the honor for your visit?"
... well, no. that wasn't quite the right question to ask. yona already knew the likely reason she was here — was there any need to be so formal?
"or, rather . . ." she wrung her hands at her chest, girlishly shy, "did you receive my letter?"

@unblemisheddesertflower continued from here
"It is exactly as I said!" Ruto huffed almost indignantly at the Sage of Spirit. It wasn't exactly news that her father had a bit overprotective streak. He meant well, but as Ruto had gotten older it had become rather tiresome. She was the Sage of Water now and was going to be Queen! Ruto wished he would stop treating her like she was just a tadpole floundering around in the shallow end of the domain.
"If you have something to say then out with it, otherwise I have other things I would like to discuss if you don't mind," She huffed, crossing her arms waiting for the Gerudo chieftain to respond. Was this really such a topic of discussion? Nabooru must have truly lived a very... free life to find it so odd. Princess Zelda had similar troubles as well, although from Zelda's worried ramblings, she heard her father was less kind than her own father. A topic for another day, perhaps.

"They are royals, whoever they marry is not their choice but who is better for the crown. "@unblemisheddesertflower Nabooru because I love chaos apparently
He found his gaze slowly slipping over toward her in response to Nabooru's words. She was not wrong with what she was saying, and more often than not he found himself feeling... it was not quite pity, but something that lived close enough to take its name when he thought about the Hylians who were forced to pretend to love those they truly despised. It was a cruelty he could never imagine inflicting upon his own people, and one that he knew no self-respecting Gerudo woman would ever allow to happen to her.
At times he couldn't help but wonder if there had been efforts to facilitate his own birth, though. His mothers had seemed to know that he would be born, that the male Gerudo would come to lead their people. Had they seen the future? Had they known the woman that would give birth to him and the man that would father him? Had she been stripped of any choice in favor of ensuring he was born?
"It is barbaric." If she thought he would have anything different to say, she was mistaken, but Ganondorf could not imagine a woman like Nabooru finding anything to like in such a practice. She would refuse if told that her freedom of choice was being taken from her, no matter how beneficial it could be to the future of their people. Certain things were not for any others to decide.
He did not recognize the young man and woman dancing together as the Hylians around them offered their congratulations and cheers for their future marriage. Likely just some minor lord and lady who could only hope that following the whims of the King would result in a boon from the Hylian Royal Family. Pathetic. Equally as pathetic as the fact that they were even here, armor and weaponless in the grand hall as they did their best to live up to the terms of the surrender.
There had been more than a few eyes that had been stuck on the two of them when they were first introduced before being seated, and the atmosphere had felt stiff and icy - at least until the alcohol had started freely pouring. No one seemed to mind them much now that they were not sober.
"Do not tell me you envy them for following their orders like sheep."

@unblemisheddesertflower asked: "Do you think it's going to stop? Like, ever?" rainy day sentence starters
The Hylian couldn’t help but to grin with amusement as she looked over to her companion. Zelda herself was actually quite fond of the rain. It was some of her favorite weather — perfect for reading a good book with a soothing cup of tea or enjoying your favorite musical piece. Besides, the Royal Gardens and Hyrule’s crops favored from the rain, and she would imagine the Zora were appreciative as well.
But her poor companion might have chosen a bad time to visit the palace, considering she was more or less stuck here (unless she wanted to make the journey back to the Gerudo Fortress in this weather).
“I know rain is pretty uncommon for you, especially when you consider it has rained non-stop for the past two days.” While she was amused, she couldn’t help but to feel for the Gerudo, offering the woman a sympathetic smile as she looked her over. “It will stop…eventually. You came to visit at the height of the rainy season. It may end today, or it might be….another two or three days.” Turning to glance back out the window, the storm clouds were thick and dark, and if Zelda had to bet rupees, she would guess it was the latter of the two.
“Perk up, Nabooru! There are still things to be down despite the rain!”

❝ do you ever feel a strange sadness as dusk falls? ❞ - @unblemisheddesertflower Nabooru
The question catches him off guard. He looks at Nabooru, taking a few moments to process her words before answering.
"I suppose, but it brings a sort of comfort as well." He pauses, glancing out the window before he continues, "What about you? Does it bring you only sadness?"

❝ it seems skill and confidence is in short supply. ❞ - from unblemisheddesertflower, Rotana for Link?
Meme Tag -- @unblemisheddesertflower
Link's eyes dance in amusement at the comment, swallowing back a smile even if this is unnecessary with the veil covering his face. He's found in his travels, and he wouldn't be surprised if this is something he noticed even before the Calamity, but those who tend to be the most confident tend to have the least amount of skill. And somehow the inverse is also true-- the more skills and the less the person feels they have reason to be confident.
His pointer and middle finger make a V in front of his face, sliding his hand down to hide behind the other hand. Pointer and middle fingers of both hands curl together, fists knocking together in a sharp beat. Left hand reaches forward slightly, palm down before delicately pinching thumb and pointer finger together. Finally, his pointer finger of his left hand connects with his other open palm, pulling it away. << Both are hard to find at once. >>
Pointing at the other, his right finger hooks forward before pulling back. Left hand curls into a fist, thumb sticking out as he rests it on the open palm of his other hand, lifting both together. << You need help? >>

❝ i’ll fight by your side till the very end. ❞ from Riju for Tulin
Down here, where the air is awfully stagnant and the Windlines are a bare touch instead of a full embrace, it's...real easy to be less loud than he usually is. Quiet — or something almost. It's easier yet to let the something-almost-quiet drag on when The Battle to End All Battles lies at the end of their journey, though there's nothing almost 'bout the complete silence that steals his next breath from him when Riju speaks.
Tulin stops in his tracks for a beat. His gaze snaps towards her, eyes wide. She says it like there's no other option, like it's a way of the world as much as a hard promise, and there's a sudden heat unfurling in his chest — chasing all the cold making him almost-quiet away — sharp and zinging and so uncontainable, it has his feathers lightly puffing.
Those words aren't only for Tulin. Somewhere in the mist of a blanked mind, he knows this. Riju's kind enough to direct them to him here and now, in the nervous calm before the storm, but they must be for the other sages too; he's pretty sure any of them would fight by each other's sides 'til the very end.
It's still really, seriously, WOW-of-all-wows, to-the-highest-tip-of-the-skies-and-back nice to hear someone say it just to him, though.
( ...Is this how Link felt when Tulin vowed to do the same for him? )
He beams, and when he resumes his pace, it's with more of the resolute energy that gives his dad and mum ( and probably his whole flock ) headaches. "So will I! And, y'know," here's an oath he's gonna turn into a way of the world of his own: "we're all gonna make it through this together!"

@unblemisheddesertflower || [ cont. ]
Nico's expression settled into an uncertain grimace, nose slightly wrinkled and a corner of his mouth pinched back. He couldn't tell if the woman was pulling his leg or actually serious, but either way, he still thought his assessment was correct. There were different kinds of weird after all, and at least this shopkeeper was a cool weird.
"That's her name?" he asked, eyes widening slightly as she got the answer correct right away. "She looked like she thought I was going to steal something the whole time I was there and had me empty out my pockets before I left. What's her deal?"
Nico didn't miss the way her story suddenly stopped before she said whatever juicy details she had about Ann. From the way she described the sewing store owner, that only bolstered Nico's opinion of her though.
Shaking his head at the question, his eyes flicked to the window as if checking for something. "No, I don't need a phone." Which was to say that a phone could only really make things worse, and then the lady might see some really weird stuff.
"Is there a place to eat nearby?" he asked instead.

“i’m eating because i’m very uncomfortable.” (from Nabs @unblemisheddesertflower)
iasip starters;
She doesn't need a reminder that Nabooru, like all Gerudo, were twice as tall as she was, and that this was likely a normal meal size for someone like her. But it still came as a shock to see how quickly she put away the meat pies, one after the other, leaving barely even crumbs behind. "Oh -- ehm...I'm sorry," she said, trying to sound comforting even if it came out more of a question than a statement.
"I-I could..." Polly looks around helplessly, keenly aware that the Hero of Time would be here soon enough. Her pots sat innocently in the corner, the tall grass outside her home blowing gently in the wind. "I could stand up straighter if it helps?" She even stood on her toes for a moment, as if that would do much of anything at all. "See? Practically twins."

Hesitant and still confused, with no real explanation to give him any more to go by, Link glanced down at the market below - he could see his mother and a couple other merchants picking up the keese parts that could be used. He wanted to stay at the bazaar, out of the way, and just live his life.
But he had a feeling in his gut that said that was no longer an option for him. There was a reason Ganon reacted to him the way he did, and Link was going to have to face that. Ganon said it might be important, so who was he to say no?
With a soft sigh, he gave a nod. "Let me talk to my mother first, let her know where I'm going. Then I'll go with you. If this is that important, I should know what's going on, too." Link crossed the roof top to the ladder and took a step down before looking back to Ganon. "Meet me at the path to town. I won't be long."
That said, Link hopped, swung, and jumped down to the ground, leaving Ganon to make his own way down.
"No, that's not-" He struggled to explain, because he barely understood it himself. His own mothers had tried to shield him from his past - or perhaps his destiny, according to several priestesses that recently had their funding cut. They were trying to slowly introduce him to the Gerudo voeish history, and its role in the Calamity, but there were gaps in the history itself, and he couldn't help but feel that they were still keeping something from him. Regardless, he knew Link was important.
And for that, he felt truly sorry.
No matter what was about to happen, it would change Link's life. If there was another way he could go about this, he would, but... He'd never felt this way around anybody but the late queen, and that had to count for something.
"I'm not going to get you in trouble, but they really need to know. It might be important. You don't have to come if you don't want."
