love him or hate him, Tim Paine is an exceptional cricketer. He's one of Australia's best ever 'keepers alongside arguably the most important captain they've had. I'm pretty sad that we won't be seeing him play anymore.
#tim paine#this is definitely a controversial take#cricket#as a keeper I've always looked up to him#cricket australia#australian cricket#retirement#tim was honestly one of the cricketers that got me into the game#as a Pom that is very hard to admit#sometimes the truth hurts

i would like to say my ideal PJO adaptation (if i was being physically forced against my will to have to pick a live action adaptation over an animated one for some reason) would be a combo like writing of the musical + casting of the show + visuals of the movies
BUT the show actually does have the playwright for the musical as one of the major writers for like three episodes and that did nothing for it. so...
#pjo#riordanverse#pjo tv crit#i do love the casting for the musical lots and lots though#it was really good#i do also have some nitpicks for show casting but they're largely inconsequential#like majority i very much enjoy and think are cast well#i only have one i'd say im actually disappointed with and that's Poseidon. idk he just feels. bland??? does that make sense?#like idk maybe it's the costuming but im not getting Sea God *or* Fishing Dad from him#like i think i kinda see what they were going for and i saw some gifs of him in another show where he plays a pirate and its like#okay. *little* bit better. but idk im just not getting Poseidon from it#in general most of the immortals in the show dont feel very Immortal(tm) but thats definitely mostly just the writing/show itself#not any reflection of the casting#my only other two are i would have liked plus sized Clarisse. i am VERY sad we didnt get that#Dior is a VERY good Clarisse though so i'm not too upset about it. i like her Clarisse energy. the yelling is fantastic.#my most controversial pjo tv take is im still meh on Walker. like he's fine. but like he's kind of Just Fine to me so far#its probably mostly the writing being bad but he hasnt grown on me as Percy yet. i can tell he has the energy though in interviews n stuff#and the main trio dynamic in interviews and stuff is *very* good. i just wish the show writing was better#because the casting IS very good but they have so little to work with. you can really tell theyre trying their best#i like to joke the show would be better if they just set the cast loose in the woods doing in-character improv#like its clear basically all of them know their characters SUPER well. id watch 8 episodes of in the woods pjo cosplay improv.

I hate llorumi as much as everyone else, but like can we stop saying that Harumi has a canonical family dynamic with either Garmadon or Lloyd.
There’s no family dynamic there. Not in canon.
Llorumi is bad bc of the attempted murder. And the manipulation. And the kidnapping. And the resurrecting Garmadon, robbing him of his humanity and destroying the world.
I don’t even think Harumi and Garmadon have really a family dynamic. It’s definitely not a normal one.
I think I’m just tired of people saying that Harumi and Lloyd are ‘siblings :D’ after listing why they have a toxic relationship. Like all those dynamics are still toxic either way, them being siblings does not fix any of that. It’s still just as frightening and awful. And same goes for Harumi and Garmadon. Like Harumi can have other family who aren’t the people she obsessed over to the point of destroying the city.
#idk controversial topic but like Harumi and Lloyd were never raised as siblings or saw each other as such#yeah it’s a weird dynamic but it’s not the dynamic you’d think it is#it’s definitely toxic don’t get me wrong#idk#discourse#ninjago#Ninjago harumi#Ninjago Lloyd#ninjago garmadon#if Garmadon had kept all his memories and such#he would be so furious#she took away his personhood and everything he fought so hard to be#his ability to be a dad to who he loved#she took away his ability to love#that’s not a father daughter relationship that is the equivalent of taking advantage (even accidentally) of someone’s fragile mental state#in order to receive undue to care from them#not complaining she did that it’s very interesting and Ik she’s complicated#but fandom does not see it as it is

fellas is it the male gaze when you give a female character an entire episode about her tragic star-crossed love for another woman, and they spend a lot of time talking and staring longingly at each other, and then share a fairly restrained and tasteful kiss. is that what the male gaze is about.
#like. arguably they had a controversial but ultimately non-threatening lesbian kiss for the ratings/viewership bump#but that wasn't the only reason#that was such a classic star trek Very Special Episode bc somebody wanted to say something about a social issue#(homophobia in this case)#and it definitely wasn't 'all in service of the male gaze' lmfao#like i'm sure some dude somewhere was probably capable of being titillated by watching jadzia and lenara kiss#but if that's all it takes for something to be 'the male gaze' then i guess we can't depict any lesbian activity ever#just in case a man might be looking.

Me through most of Boom: Wow, this is a really solid dramatic episode.
Me when Moffat needlessly sprinkles in anti-faith sentiments without specifying that it’s blind faith in bad things that the Doctor doesn’t like, which makes it come off like the Doctor is just against religion generally:
#doctor who#dw critical#spoilers#dw spoilers#i get it edgelord you don’t care for religion. you don’t have to alienate religious members of the audience.#i at least appreciated that the doctor agreed with splice that gone and dead are different things and told her to keep the faith#but like. he immediately thereafter still tells mundy that he doesn’t like faith and spent the whole episode disparaging it.#which just feels so wrong for a show that’s supposed to be open minded about the beliefs and cultures all across the universe#i hate when writers gratuitously make the doctor take a hard and broad stance on something that he would NOT#reminds me of s8 when twelve suddenly hated all soldiers#as if some of his closest friends haven’t been soldiers? brigadier? benton and yates? sara?#big difference between corrupt military and literally every soldier#the same way there is a big difference between a corrupt religious organization or individuals who use religion as an excuse for cruelty#and like. ALL faith and the idea of having a faith that you live by whatsoever.#just because his comments were aimed at something corrupt doesn’t mean they weren’t WAY too sweeping as if he meant it on the whole#i definitely enjoyed the bulk of the episode but that just felt like it was done in bad faith and made me uncomfortable#and i just read moffat’s comment on the thoughts and prayers thing and UGH#i get why there are circumstances in which that can feel hollow — usually if it’s coming from a corporation that could actually do somethin#but can we not villainize all the normal people who genuinely mean that with love?#people who often CAN’T do anything but say prayers for you?#that IS a legitimate response and a legitimate action#someone can’t physically aid you but cares to take the time to talk to the God of the universe about you and your need and plead for you#don’t tell me that isn’t love or that it’s not really doing anything#sometimes that’s all you CAN do and it’s more than people give it credit for#blatant disregard and willful misunderstanding of faith like this just rub me wrong#it’s painting with a broad brush and it’s close minded#and yes i’m gonna post this. i’m feeling controversial.#my love/aggravation relationship with moffat continues#in the wise words of kira nerys. if you don’t have faith you can’t understand it and if you do then no explanation is necessary.

the fact that sonic x shadow generations costs 50 dollars makes me even more confused about the pricing for sonic superstars . because for a second there i thought they were going with the nintendo system of "all our games are 60 dollars now regardless of quality or content" now since frontiers also cost 60 and that price tag felt more reasonable there. but no sxs gens costs 50. which means that 60 Isnt the new default price for sonic games and they actually thought superstars was worth that much. okay
#well maybe it has to do with sxs generations being a remaster with added content instead of a full new game#maybe they thought if they charged too much for it people would just go buy the original sonic generations instead. idk#but also re releases of sonic games arent usually 60 dollars anyway. like origins plus and colors ultimate are both 40 iirc?#im also noticing generations is one of the only sonic games thats not on sale right now when it usually Is on sale for a big discount#so maybe theyre just trying to push people away from generations in general#without outright taking it down since that would be controversial for multiple reasons#anyway. tbh i Am willing to spend 60 dollars on a game but it heavily depends on what game it is#if youre gonna ask for me to spend over 50 dollars on your game it better be a damn good game with plenty of content to play through#like i dont regret spending 60 dollars on frontiers at all. but i felt kinda ripped off with superstars#i might just be biased towards modern sonic though. because i definitely like modern sonic more than classic#but either way. superstars should have cost 30-40 at Most and even that feels like too muhc considering mania is like 20

Watched through adventure time start to finish for the first time and of course it was great and of course I'm going to be drawing fanart at some point in the not-distant future (can't say near tho lmao school is keeping me busy) but my god the finale. I already knew the plot points tbh because i Am Online and Like Cartoons and if both of those things are things you are, you see the bubbline kiss and Finn saying "I always thought i'd go out a hero" and that's pretty much unavoidable, but what really got me was Time Adventure.
I saw someone on Twitter or something, maybe on here, say that the antagonist of Adventure Time is personal stagnation, and it was a comeback to someone else, but it really is true that from season 7 on the show starts leaning Realllllly hard into Growth as the topic the show's about (and season 7 is like. a pretty noticeable line for this switch tbh, NOT that the first 6 seasons are unimportant to the final end point, but the change is visible.) This is especially clear seeing as Gumbald and Fern, who refuse to accept growth and change to a unique extent, and are incapable of personal growth due to being an outgrown past version of the mc held that way indefinitely by a grass curse, respectively, are the main antagonistic forces of the final season. (Betty also counts as both an antagonistic force in the finale and unable to accept growth to me seeing as she was the reason Golb was summoned and, I mean, Temple of Mars is ABOUT her being unable to grow on an internal-beliefs level despite accepting the magic of the future as an external tool, so that checks both boxes, but i'm not sure of the overall Betty opinion and also she isn't the main point.) What I'm getting at is, with the major emphasis on changing as an individual, Time Adventure is especially poignant to me, because outside of being a (still very good) meta song about the show ending, in the context of the show it reads as a song about how sad growing as a person is when you're the person who's changing, and how it would be great if you could just. always be a 12 year old kid in the first season who doesn't understand that there are problems that can't be solved and fights you can't win, who can always go back to his treehouse at the end of the day. And how with the passage of time, it's inevitable to change, but at least that kid is and will forever be in season 1, even as the only physical version of himself from the past blows away in the wind as he asks to go back to a place that's now rubble. This isn't exactly breaking news but still, in a show that leans so hard into the way maturing means changing as a person the final message being "it's hard to be a new person and lots of things ARE lost forever but all past versions of you that you can no longer be exist in the past and aren't going anywhere" instead of like, "woohoo! Maturing is neat! Look at how much everything has improved!" is really good. Idk it just kinda means more really knowing that they're sad about the change.
#adventure time#come along with me#adventure time meta#maybe?#i don't think i need to tag spoilers for this one#to be clear this was over the course of like a year it wasn't a weekend activity#but i watched seasons 5-10 since august because I got particularly into it again#which#is not an insane pace or anything#but i kinda just went “yeah its been a while time to go for it”#also gotta say right now fern is the davesprite of homestuck#i could elaborate a lot about fern but i don't think it would fit here#i could elaborate a lot about betty but i don't think it would fit here and also idk if it's a controversial take or not#she's pretty well written i am not saying she's a bad character#all i'm going to say on this one is that being “normal” at the beginning and being tragic do NOT equate to being particularly heroic#like her though#I am definitely going to be saying more on her post fionna and cake

today was very difficult. i just want to disappear into a swamp forest 😫
#i’m so sick of non indigenous leftists using the ongoing native american genocide as a half hearted gotcha when talking about palestine#because it’s always a super shallow comparison and they never take the next step#american settlers and israeli settler have a LOT in common there are Israelis whos grandparenrs were born in israel#ALL american settlers have as much claim to the americas as israelis have to palestine#so maybe instead of taking all that shame and projecting it onto israelis just think about what it would actually mean to make things#equitable#i have no money or influence#i follow the bds boycotts when i know what they are#and also i’m not such a hypocrite that i don’t see israeli children as human beings#today i learned that this is a very controversial opinion#and i’m sure a lot of my opinions on this are effected by 1) my settler-ness and 2) having an indigenous wife and baby#that’s not me saying that i’m automatically right because my wife is native for the record#that is my bias#but also if my kid WASNT indigenous then i would definitely have a reason to humanize settler children like what?#anyway israeli doesn’t automatically mean zionist any more than american automatically means supporter of manifest destiny#rant over i can’t

i just. remembered again that i have a fembaru fic but also the premise is. Very Messed Up hah and also it was written before the canon genderbent au with its official genderbend names for everyone so its also outdated on top of that T^T i had like. Genderqueer subtext going on too. but i also wrote this fic like almost two years ago and havent touched it in forever so im unsure if i should go back to it…. o.o but i would love to finish it one day if only for my own satisfaction hah… i had a very detailed outline for ch 2 (its a twoshot) and several scenes written already anyway!! (and also i would probably update those names, make minor edits, etc etc hmm…)
#just thinking about this wip again………… mmmm….. not super confident in my older ao3 fics but the premise for this one was like. i think i#ended up brainstorming it with a friend or two and then i was like wait holy shit howd this play out. and then i took about two weeks to#write ch1? :o#and then i like. REALLY got into revolutionary girl utena after finishing ch1 so like that def bled into um. the themes.#just. thimking…….. bc ive had so many ideas to explore like. themes regarding gender and misogyny and Choice and destiny and queerness and#all sorts of things….. bc rezero Touches on them and is even Detailed on them sometimes and id Love to go in depth. but im also a bit#nervous to bc 1. writing fic is….. so much work sometimes fr and i am but a lazy writer and 2. the slight anxiety of what if i get flamed#o.o wild to think about…..#like. i have ideas for emilia fics that are. definitely darker maybe a bit controversial but i will go off the walls with writing for the#sake of answering the questions of. can this be done. and is it possible to narratively critique canon and fandom treatment of emilia. that#sort of thing.#not that im the best writer ever akdbdnd but i do like darker fiction sometimes. and i also like being meta about things in fiction. and i#also like writing to get out a tiny bit of salt. etc etc.#i tried to write these kinds of thinngs with my atm sole emilia centric fic that i wrote. uhhh more than a year ago? and i would love to try#again one day bc ive def improved and changed as a writer since then. u know what i mean?? :o#just like. rezero and queerness is very interesting to me.#suffaru post#saving this on the blog bc i talked Too Much about my writing process here HAH#my writing process being: HOW FAR CAN I TAKE THIS IDEA AND HOW OFF THE WALLS CAN IT GET????#in reality tho im really just a massive nerd whos gone down a massive rabbit hole of writing anime fanfic. 😭😭😭😭😭🙏🙏#if you actually read all these tags big thank you HAH

What R your hottest takes when it comes to gaming
MMMMMM I think the hottest and most controversial take I have is that young kids should not be allowed within a mile of any time of shooter/pvp game unless they have parental supervision- And no that is NOT because of the stupid “video games cause violence” sort of thing but it’s because of other people either being mean, rude, creepy, or just generally bad. This also applies to older kids being weird and uncomfortable as well- not just adults. People now a days are way way WAYYYYY too comfortable being gross on the internet and it defintely applies to games as well.
#This is definitely controversial but man oh man will I stand by it#And note- I’m not saying that younger kids shouldn’t be allowed to play more toned down games-#Im just saying that they#at the VERY least#should have some form of parental supervision#I also don’t really agree all too much with younger kids playing violent video games in general since I don’t think they should be exposed#To that kind of stuff#But I can understand that Y’know games like that can be really fun! But a lot of multiplayer games (think like Fortnite-COD-etc) can be ful#Of pretty toxic and generally sucky people#I should also clarify that by young kids- I mean kids around the ages of 10-14#I think that around ages 15-17 though kids should be allowed to play whatever they would like (which obviously has its limits)#Take it from me- my mom sheltered me my whole life from games like that and now I’m only JUST breaking away from it#I’m glad that she did- especially with games like COD- but by now I’m at that point where it’s just a little absurd#I don’t know LMAO I think this is just a bit of a ramble#This is defintely kind of controversial I would think but at the same time it’s something I’m gonna stand by#Cro chatter

i think one of my most controversial comic takes is that i judge characters in golden/silver age comics very very differently than i judge characters in even, like, bronze age comics. "that adult man said something weird about a teenage girl" that adult man was written by stan lee.
#gg og#i dont know if that actually makes any sense#but its definitely. something you notice.#my other controversial take is i think jan probably initially was meant to be like 19 but then got implicitly retconned to be older#& also talking about that like either jan or hank are real people is weird when stan lee pretty clearly had strange ideas about women.#to say the least#marvel comics
