âA trope I wish we saw more in drarry fics is Draco finding out that Harry was supposed to be in Slytherin. I just know he would LOSE it.â OMG I LOVE THIS â€ïž Do you have any headcannons about how itâd go? đââïžđđŒđđŒ
It happens post-war once they've finally found each other again (because they always do) and once they've gotten over the initial awkwardness and started properly talking and discovered they actually kind of enjoy their conversations. They fall into a sort of easy, teasing banter (a gentler version of their earlier dynamic that stays away from anything truly painful).
Sometimes they revive their old House rivalry in a joking way. And inevitably in one of these conversations, Draco makes fun of Harry for doing something devious (which he secretly finds deeply attractive) because isn't that awfully Slytherin? And Harry drops the "well actually, I was supposed to be in Slytherin" truth bomb and Draco has an irl 'record scratch' moment.
Draco thinks Harry's joking at first. And then he is incredulous. Because no. NO. It can't be! He is actually speechless for a few seconds.
Harry fills those few seconds with an explanation of how Dumbledore says it's your choices that matter and thus he isn't REALLY a Slytherin because he chose- But at that point Draco regains his powers of speech. And no. Absolutely not. He is never letting this go. The Hat said Harry was supposed to be in Slytherin and that's where he belongs. This explains SO much.
Of course, then it gets a bit serious because Draco asks why Harry asked not to be in Slytherin and Harry sort of hedges and is all 'er, well I sort of heard some things-" and Draco immediately realizes what Harry isn't saying. "It was because of me, wasn't it?" he says wryly, half incredulous, half resigned. And Harry says "Well, not only because of you but...yeah. I met you. That day in-" "Madam Malkins. I remember," Draco finishes. He shrugs and admits it was probably for the best since while he'd like to imagine they could have been friends he doubts it would have worked out like that. "You always did know how to avoid making friends with the wrong sort," he says - aiming for joking but coming off just a bit too bitterly self deprecating. And then he snorts and the tension is broken. "Merlin. Can you imagine us sharing a dormitory when we were in school? What a nightmare." And suddenly it's all funny again.

Hello!! Thank you for this blog really its been so lovely reading fics from the master list I've discovered drarry because of you! My favorite "trope" so far is draco who's struggling a lot but manages to preservere and even find humour in the worst situations. I find his character that way truly inspiring. Do some fics like that come to mind? I'd love to hear your recommendations and to read more fics like this
Hi anon! Welcome to Drarry, Iâm so happy to see you enjoying the lists đ I love a struggling Draco whoâs still proud and snarky and a little shit, thatâs such a great take on the trope! Here are some recs focused on Dracoâs resilience and perseverance. You can also check GallaPlacidiaâs archive, who usually explores this trope in a sweet and light-hearted way. And if I can add something on the angstier side, Take A Chance On Me by @mintawasalreadytaken and Winner Takes It All by @skeptiquewrites are two underrated masterpieces among my top favorite down & out Draco fics. Iâll come back to add more titles as they come to mind. Enjoy!
Rebuilding Draco Malfoy by khasael (E, 11k)
Draco wants to do something to get his life back on track, but no-one seems to be taking him seriously â until he finds himself in an Auror training session led by Harry Potter.
The Year of Non-Magical Thinking by whiskyandwildflowers (E, 13k)
"I don't know what I'm going to do, Potter. I'll think of something. So will you. But this is my journey to self-actualization," Draco managed to smirk. "You can fuck off and get your own."
Open For Repairs by @drarrytrash (M, 35k)
After the war, Draco works at a tv repair shop and Harry breaks things.
The Vanishing Department by @dictacontrion (E, 47k)
The things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end, even if that involves a lot more form-filling, bickering, covert glancing, miscommunication, and flying furniture than we might expect.
Heal Thyself by astolat (T, 47k)
"Are you going for the course?" Lovegood asked. "You have the NEWTs.â âWhat course?â Draco said, then, âNo, donât be ridiculous,â when he realized she meant the notice pinned up on the board heâd been staring at: Applicants To The Introductory Mediwizard Course For The Coming Term Shall Present Themselves In The Chief Mediwizardâs Office By August 24th.
Kept in Cages by @sweet-s0rr0w, @ihopeyoubothstaysafefromharm (E, 77k)
Deep in the heart of the Ministry lies the Beast Division: a hidden room where ancient beasts roam, and winged creatures soar, and grumpy giant ferrets eat all your biscuits unless you keep them well hidden. Draco Malfoy would know â heâs been working there for five years now, after all.
The Liars Department by @dorthyanndrarry (T, 103k)
This is a story about Harry meeting up with Draco Malfoy four years after the war. And a story about Harry, well, not hating his job per say, but it's not like he has much to compare it to and it seemed fine. His whole life seemed fine. Then Malfoy came along with and his flashy suits and fast car making everything seem dull in comparison, and Harry... Harry couldn't just leave well enough alone.
By the Grace by lettered (T, 140k)
Harry is an Auror instructor. Malfoy wants to be an Auror.
Whatever You Want, Draco Malfoy by DorthyAnn (E, WIP)
Draco lost his home and the only society he knew after the war. He ended up living in the muggle world, making new friends and new connections and maybe some sort of peace. Even if that peace was usually found at the bottom of a bottle. It was enough for him. He was content to just exist. Then Harry Potter decided to ruin everything.

Hello so I wanna ask about Hinny and Drarry, since Ginny does everything she can so Harry will like her not showing him her vulnerable/emotional/crying side and girly/feminine since these are what Harry doesn't like, and even did Quidditch just for him, how come these would work with Drarry/Draco? But not with Hinny, if Ginny ever did those, Like I've read that Draco is femme coded and well Harry saw Draco being emotional and crying and the moment Draco didn't do Quidditch anymore, Harry, who supposedly love this because that's why Ginny even does this, suddenly lost interest but in a way Drarry still makes more sense and will actually work
And another weird thing is Harry has a sense of justice right? And hates Draco acting like a bully but the thing with Ginny being good at hex and does it to Smith, isn't that considered bullying?
I think it depends on your personal tastes since drarry is not canon but, to me, it reads differently from hinny because JKR is bad at writing romance: what she intends to come across one way often reads in a completely different manner to her audience.
JKR is a misogynist so in her mind a successful female love interest cannot be too girly: Ginny is boyish because jkr sees femininity in a negative light which means that Harry, her creation, also sees femininity in a negative light. If us readers don't have the same fucked up worldview we can see the inherent sexism in Ginny's "not like other girls" depiction and we can see that Ginny's character is constructed rather cynically in order to fulfil JKR's ideal.
JKR wrote Ginny being aggressive and malicious towards Zacharias Smith because she wants us to enjoy seeing a character we're supposed to like (Ginny) dress down one we're supposed to dislike (Smith). To her, a Good Guy's actions are inherently good on account of their goodness so this is not bullying. It's a somewhat circular logic: Ginny's actions can't be ill-natured because Ginny is meant to be one of our heroes so whatever she does (wether it be cursing Zach Smith or laughing behind Luna's back) is good by default. This is not a very nice or coherent belief system: someone's intent and actions are what determines the quality of someone's character, we don't excuse horrible behaviour just because it comes from a well liked/respected person (or at least we shouldn't).
JKR intended for Ginny to come across as funny and tough but she wrote her according to her own ideals so Ginny's humor ends up reading like malice and her tomboy persona ends up feeling fabricated in order to appeal to the male gaze. Conversely, JKR intended for Draco to come across as mean and weak but did not realize that, by showing us his flaws, she gave Draco's character more depth and nuance than she ever does to Ginny. Thus Draco, who's meant to be pretty one-note as a character, ends up reading as complex and sympathetic and we find ourselves wanting to understand his thoughts and motivations.
When writing the books, JKR wanted to make Draco's status as a minor villain blindingly obvious and she did so by femme coding him. We have been trained to associate gender non-conformity and general deviation from the norm with villainy by the media we watch (Disney villains being a very notable example); this is called queer coding, here's a very coincise explanation:
This trope is so omnipresent in the media we watch that we don't even notice it, that's how successfully the concept has been assimilated into our culture.
JKR tried doing something similar to that with Draco's femme coding. She's a misogynist to the highest order so this is meant to help make him unlikeable but this doesn't work if you don't hold the same worldview as her. JKR shows us Draco crying because to her crying is the ultimate act of weakness, we aren't meant to sympathize with him, we're meant to be somewhat scornful.
Here I come back to the gap between what JKR wants us to read and what we read. If you don't have the same exact opinions as JKR, you end up reading a completely different story from what she intended which is why to many the hinny romance falls flat. As to why many people are drawn to drarry, it's a matter of personal taste.
Personally, I enjoy reading about relationships in which the people within are equals and have a profound understanding of each-other; stories about not meaning what you say and not saying what you mean and about the thin line between love and hate are interesting to me and drarry checks out all these boxes for me (i watched too many Moonlighting reruns as a kid and i became a lifelong lover of enemies to lovers storylines).
Ultimately, all that matters is wether a certain ship has a dynamic you enjoy reading about and you can interpret canon to suit your needs accordingly. It doesn't matter what JKR intended, it stopped mattering the moment she finished writing the books and sent them to her publisher. We read for entertainment value and we are free to derive entertainment however we see fit.
Sorry for the verbose reply, and thank you for the ask my friend.
xoxo

Drarry fic recs #6
[podfic] Kill, Fuck, Marry written by @lettersbyelise and read by @timothysboxers
Malfoy leans toward him with a baleful look. âI do believe Pansy Parkinson, my best friend, paid you to spend the evening with me. Itâs my birthday, Potter. So youâre going to get off your Gryffindor arse, and youâre going to dance with me. I want to dance. I want to win. I want that bloody trophy on my shelf before the end of the night.â Harry and Draco unexpectedly meet again on Dracoâs birthday, years after their last encounter.
A delightful fic and a phenomenal reading! There are few things I love more than ex-rivals Harry and Draco discovering they actually enjoy each other's company, especially when it's done with such humor. The game of kill, fuck, marry was hilarious, and so was the dancing. And Draco's final birthday wish, well. đ„ A phrase seen in many stories but rarely delivered with quite that much cheek. I'm all smiles and biting lips just thinking about it. 10/10 would read/listen again.
ready, able by @garagepaperback
âWell, even if we went through with it, it wouldnât work. But thanks for the grand heroic rushing in. A certain element of purity is needed to break it." Malfoy licks his lips, "Youâd have to be a virgin.â Harry keeps every muscle on his face particularly still, hoping it looks to Malfoy as absolutely blank as it feels to him. Half a minute passes. âNo,â Malfoy, already doing a poor job of sitting normally on his chair, bends in half, nearly falling out of it. Heâs laughing. âNo, Potter, no. No- donât- youâre twenty-five years old!â âAnd?â Harry asks, heat staining his face. - Malfoy has a problem, Harry wants to help.
Apart from being captivating, tantalizing and touching, this story is also an interesting (and, for this reader, unique) take on the fuck-or-die trope, which I'll generally read "for fun" but will only take "seriously" if it's somehow challenged and reshaped till choice reasserts itself. Like in this fic! Which, on top of everything, (spoiler alert!) ends with one of the hottest sex scenes in my HP reading so far. Truly exquisite. đ
Savage by @marguerite26
In a post-war world that lives in fear and ignorance of werewolves, Draco Malfoy has taken every step to keep his condition hidden. When the delicate balance of his life shatters in a single moment, it is Harry Potter alone standing in his defence.
Another instance where excellent fic managed to sell me a trope I'm not a fan of: werewolves! It's a phenomenal story, with an interesting, political plot, excellent pacing, flawless characterization and steaming hot sex. What more could one hope for?
Virtuous by @heyjude19-writing
Draco is only sin inverted.
I loved this short piece down to the last word. It's so multifaceted! At face value, it's a confession of an unredeemed Draco, but is he? Is he really? Or did "fake it till you make it" work a little better than he expected? I'm fascinated by this because it touches on the question of whether a person can really change, which is, obviously, central to Drarry. Does a selfish motivation behind an act of kindness make the act less kind? I don't know the answers. But I do so enjoy fic that asks the questions!
Draco in Darkness by plumeria47
Following an accident in his seventh year, Draco loses his eyesight. After Harry elbows his way into Draco's dark world, both boys find themselves in a strange new friendship, and they each learn new ways to see each other ⊠and themselves.
This story is very old and predates the canon ending of the series (thus missing out on a lot of canon Drarry content that would've made it even better). It's also a bit old-fashioned, compared to the fic I mostly read these days, and it triggered some of my technical pet peeves. Yet it hooked me within the first few paragraphs, and I grew to love it with a slow-burn passion. Draco's sudden disability is depicted in a very straight-forward, matter-of-fact, incredibly effective yet sensitive way; and his manner of coping with it is perfectly in character. Meanwhile, Harry is blind in his own way, which helps build the tension but never crosses the line of being too contrived. I had so many feels reading this. It's just beautiful, warts and all.
As always, my heartfelt thanks to the authors of these, and all other lovely stories shared within this amazing fandom, and to the readers helping spread the word. đ„°

Inspired by your Drarry fic recs and your amazing Flintwood fic, do you have any Flintwood recs or personal favorites?
ah! fantastic ask, anon! flintwood was, incidentally, my earliest hp ship & maintains a soft spot after all these years. their functions in canon (quidditch captains of rival houses, pinnacles of a certain kind of obsessive, single-minded, aggressive athletic masculinity) conduce some of the most raw and gritty characterisationsâ kind of like if tracing your tongue along the jagged, broken end of a tooth was a ship. flintwood encapsulates a very specific kind of moodâ a foregrounded physicality, a delicious emotional dimension balancing both subtlety and brashness. this ship is especially delightful when you're in the mood for some deferred emotional payoff, a little out of reach and more satisfying for it.
(tw for some discussions of queerphobia & masculinity!)
flintwood also works with and subverts some common stereotypes & tropes associated with sports as a site of exalted & amplified masculinity. oliver and marcus are both, in fic, often representations of what a popular (largely homophobic & patriarchal) culture understands as 'masculine ideal stereotypes'â physically hulking, emotionally repressed, narrow-focused, a little dangerous. and flintwood, as a ship, is crucially also about these 'ideal men' making the choice to step away from the hallowed halls of homosociality towards explicit queer desire, dynamics and love.
i'm getting into this because a large selection of flintwood fics i've loved deal (overtly or covertly) with coming to terms with queer awakenings, reckoning with being queer men in sports and similar explorations. my flintwood fic (thank you for reading it, anon!), addictive tendencies (~4k, T, tw for internalised homophobia) also grapples with this fairly significantly. in fact, even when the central tension isnât explicitly about a queer reckoning, and the worldbuilding has little/no queerphobia, many excellent flintwood fics have some of the themes, ideas and tropes you find in literature accounting for our societyâs (often disparaging) attitude towards queerness: a desire both intense and grudging, a sense of âi canât have this personâ justified through rivalry and/or jealousy, poignant internal conflicts, etc.
anyway, enough talk, here's a selection of flintwood fics i've dearly enjoyed, hope you do too! mind the tags & notes & remember to send some love the authors' way :)

what drarry fics would you recommend that are very in character?
Before I get into it, Iâd just like to say that I started working on a fic rec sideblog last month. The posting schedule doesnât kick in until April, so itâs blank at the moment. But, itâs there, if youâre interested in giving it a follow!
Anyway, two caveats about this: one, I read a lot of drarry fic and have a bit of a poor memory, and two, I'm not certain that what I consider in-character to be the majority consensus of the drarry fandom (for example, I don't like down and out Draco, soft Draco, Draco hating either of his parents, or Harry being overly judgmental or unforgiving (though that's not to say I haven't read those tropes and enjoyed them)).
In general, any fics from my ao3 bookmarks will meet my bar on being in-character, since I tend to hit the back button if I start asking myself, 'who are these people?'. I took a cruise through my bookmarks in spirit of the ask though, and I'll post a list below the cut of fics that stick out in my memory as having some of my favourite characterizations:
Twelve Months by dysonrules (14,840 words)
Hermione buys Harry a journal and he ends up using it to record his DEEP THOUGHTS. Not surprisingly, those tend to mostly involve Draco Malfoy.
This one cracked me up. Since it's written in journal form, we get Harry's running internal monologue about his life. And a lot of Draco, because of course we do. I also always enjoy a Draco who actually is up to something, but itâs for a good cause.
The Gentlewizard Club by Sophie_French (28,129 words)
Draco wants what Draco wants. And if he has to snuggle up to Harry to get it, well, surely, Draco can handle that. Problem is, not sure Harry can.
This fic starts with Draco and Harry as both friends and Auror partners. As friends, the high point of every day for Draco is when he gets to read (oft-times aloud, and dramatically so) Harry's fan mail as it's delivered to their office. As Auror partners, Draco is barred in writing their field reports because he sucks at it. He's very happy to put that work onto Harry, and Harry is happy to do it (because he's pining hard, okay?).
That Draco and Harry are Auror partners isn't actually important in this fic (although the sequel has a case that they tackle). Harry gets a letter about having been admitted into a club that Draco really, really, really wants to join, and he begs Harry to sponsor his admittance. Harry can't say no to him, therefore, commence operation fake relationship for a weekend getaway. I love the balance in Harry trying to give Draco what he wants while fearing that what he wants will only hurt him.
Martyred by dothechachaslide (82,004 words)
Harry Potter only wants one thing: to take care of the people he loves. After Teddyâs abrupt departure from his role as Andromedaâs caretaker, Harry decides itâs finally time to step up and handle the job himself. Castoff Manor, an old Black family estate, has never seemed as sinister as the stories make it sound, but itâs there that Harry stumbles upon ghosts, haunting family secrets, and a familiar, snarky blond gardener hell-bent on chasing him out. Maybe if Harry sticks around long enough, heâll finally learn why all of Andromedaâs previous caretakers have fled without looking back.
Harry and Draco are in their fifties, in this fic. The summary about sums up Harry's characterization: he takes care of the people he loves, and a mystery at hand draws him obsessively in. As for Draco, I would consider him post-redemption. He took the consequences handed down to him after the war seriously, and has grown so used to the Muggle world that he lives there as comfortably as the magical world. He tends the garden at Castoff Manor to prevent anyone else being harmed in the role (part of the fic's mystery), and tutors Squibs in the nearby village.
One small detail that I love about Draco is how every time he gets uncomfortable, he hops on his bike and runs away. It's one of those things that, despite the rather far-flung future from the canon years, it's so absolutely in-character across time and space for him. He's changed so much, but there's still this degree of pettiness and cowardice deep down inside. It's just expressed in a less harmful way than it used to be.
Lethe by QueenieJinny (70,885 words)
A new form of vanishing sickness is sweeping across Britain. Healers Harry Potter and Hermione Granger are on the case. When Draco Malfoy is admitted to the isolation ward, Harry never imagines falling in love with him will be the easiest thing heâs ever done â and watching him fade away to nothing will be the hardest.
Like above, Harry again takes care of the people he loves and cannot resist a mystery to solve. He's a Healer in this fic, a line of work that suits him well for his compassion, and Draco ends up his patient. Draco is on the difficult end of the spectrum as far as patients go (are you surprised?). Watching their Healer-patient power dynamic swing toward equilibrium is wonderful. They fall in love, Draco comes to terms with his (temporary) mortality, and Harry goes as far as he possibly can for Draco after he's gone: finding a way to rescue him from where the vanishing sickness took him.
Draco Malfoy, Bloodsucking Fiend by Kbrick (23,198 words)
There are two things that Dracoâs Auror partner, Harry Potter, must never know about him. One is that heâs a vampire. The other is that heâs been completely, pathetically, head-over-heels in love with Harry for years. But when the duo is trapped inside an old shop on Diagon Alley with no means of escape, Draco finds himself fiending for blood and unable to put even a modicum of distance between himself and the man he canât stop lusting after.
There are 3 of Kbrick's fics on this list, and I could have honestly added more. All of her fics that I haven't gotten to yet are on my to-read list. I just love the way she writes Draco and Harry, okay?? I'm a big baby when it comes to angst and hurt/comfort (more on that further down), but I absolutely trust her to put the boys in a blender on the highest setting that I can personally handle.
Anyway, this fic in particular, I'm all about that pining and the feeling of a countdown being on. Draco is resisting on two fronts: his feelings for Harry and his need as a vampire to feed. Harry is perfectly balanced in his obliviousness and perception.
You See Through My Disguise by aibidil (9,666 words)
Bellatrix's knife flew across the room, but Harry leaped, pushing Dobby and Griphook to safety but stranding himself at Malfoy Manor. Now he and Draco are locked in the cellar with Wormtail's corpse and a rat, waiting for Voldemort to return and decide their fate.
The premise is on the tin. As for their characterizations, Harry and Draco are on a countdown to sort themselves out enough to make an escape from the dungeon at Malfoy Manor during the war. They can't help but poke at each other, so the fic is a compelling balance of ego and necessity.
Criminal by The_Sinking_Ship (83,497 words)
Things were going just fine for Draco Malfoy. He successfully conned and counted cards across Europe and America, amassing a small fortune, along with a lengthy rap sheet. That was until he made the grave mistake of returning to England for a high stakes card game and got himself caught â by Harry Potter no less. Now, Draco is stuck in England under Auror Potterâs guard with no friends, no distractions, and no escape. How the hell will he pass the time? And since when did Potter get so bloody fit?
I'd had this fic on my to-read list for ages before seeing it on a rec list for morally grey Draco. That's my favourite kind of Draco, so I decided to jump this one to the top. Also, like I said about Kbrick above, The_Sinking_Ship is another writer with whom I've either enjoyed everything I've read (recs within recs: Never Mind the Bullocks, Dwelling on Dreams, and Chasing Dragons) or I've simply yet to get to the rest of their work.
For this fic specifically, Draco's done the best he can with the shit situation his life was in post-war, and he's a lion in a cage when he gets legally stuck in England. He and Harry meet for check-ins, and the chemistry goes from there. Draco has some self-harm tendencies, and his want for Harry ends up (temporarily) going that way for him. Harry's in a rut in his life as an Auror. I love fics where he goes into the force and then becomes disillusioned with it. That feels very in-character for Harry, to me.
AITA for being "obsessed" with my childhood nemesis? by RainstormRadish (4,289 words)
Alrakis I [24M] attended a small boarding school in the UK. There was a boy in my year, a couple of months younger than me, and he became my nemesis after we developed an intense rivalry. My friend [25F] told me recently that our dynamic was "weird back then" and that "itâs even weirder" that I still think about him today. She argued that I talk about him all the time, but I believe the amount I talk about him is reasonable. AITA? prongymcprongface i completely get what you mean. i had a nemesis (like a school one, separate to my other nemesis) and we had a dynamic super similar to what you are describing. having a nemesis is a very cool and normal thing dw about it. NTA In which Draco asks the internet if he's being reasonable. Only one commenter is sympathetic. They start talking.
Draco and Harry cross paths on Reddit. Everyone else in the AITA thread thinks Draco (the OP) is absolutely nuts for his 'nemesis' situation. Except one, because of course that one person had a similar situation and it was totally normal, don't worry about it. I'm aware I basically just repeated the summary, but it says it all, really!
Rookie Moves by peu_a_peu (75,328 words)
Aurors Potter and Malfoy crack the case.
More Auror partners with a Draco that is unhinged. Tbh, I am very fussy on Auror Draco fics. I don't see Draco as someone to subject himself to much pain and suffering (like in fics where it's emphasized that he was subject to much bullying/pranks/etc during training, and he persevered regardless). He's too hedonistic, and I don't particularly think that the war would have warmed him to the Ministry or the means it possesses of authoritarian force. Fool me once, and all that.
In this fic, each chapter covers a job or case that Draco and Harry embark upon. It's meant to be funny, and holy shit is it ever. These two are such dumb cops. Even with the genre shift from serious to goofy, they get the work done. It's been long enough now since I read it that I can't remember specifically, but I feel that sometimes Draco and Harry being disasters helped them solve their cases. The other fics in the series Rookie Moves belongs to are 100% reading through as well. I cried happy tears in the end.
Timeshare by astolat (14,156 words)
âItâs not for long,â Hermione said. âBy the time we get back to Hogwarts, the Unfettering Brew will be ready.â âListen to you!â Ron said. âHeâs got to get through a month with the Dursleys and a month at Malfoy Manor. With Draco Malfoy.â âYeah, thanks,â Harry said, because he hadnât just spent the last week contemplating just how much more horrible his summer holidays were about to be than theyâd ever been before.
This fic has wonderful fuck/fight dynamics between the boys. I also like fics where the writer isn't afraid to let Draco be flawed with bigotry. Things like that he cannot fathom 'Potter's Muggles' talking to him and that he whinges the entire month he's at the Dursleys' house that it's too small, and the food isn't up to par, etc. As for Harry, he wants Draco despite all this, as well as despite how uncomfortable his month at the manor with Lucius and Narcissa is. I love when Harry is allowed to be flawed in that way.
Hey, Potter by SunseticMonster (16,024 words)
Harry returns to Hogwarts for his 8th year, determined not to let Malfoy get to him. But when the snarky teasing starts up again, Harry finds that returning the jibes with compliments has a far more interesting outcome.
This fic explores something that I've always headcanoned about how Draco and Harry got along throughout the canon books. We never see them have a single good or even neutral interaction (rather than Draco's part in their Madam Malkin's meet). They're always going at each other with their claws and teeth out, taking everything the other does in the most bad-faith interpretation. So, what happens when Harry starts killing Draco with kindness? I personally believe that if Harry did as such in the canon books, he would have very easily won Draco over.
Lumos by birdsofshore (41,476 words)
Harry never expected to spend eighth year listening to Draco Malfoy wanking.
I love eighth-year fics where Draco doesn't return to Hogwarts with his chin down and shoulders hunched. It doesn't feel in-character to me; he'd feel just as free as anyone else post-war, and I can't see him even hiding his relief and happiness for it to be over for the sensibilities of the other survivors. On top of that, Draco coming back to Hogwarts and immediately pushing Harry's buttons? 100% him. Harry playing into it every time? Also 100%.
A Convenient Impracticality by firethesound (38,540 words)
Somehow Harry ends up agreeing to a fake relationship with his ex-nemesis-turned-friendly-acquaintance-with-benefits, except for some reason it involves an awful lot of actual dating and, sadly, not much sex. Confused? Harry is too, but when has anything with Draco Malfoy ever been as straightforward as it seems?
More fake relationships! Harry and Draco fucking but not being sure what they are or what the other feels in return is so my jam. I can see both of them being attracted enough to each other to land in bed together, but the intimacy is more hard-earned because of their history. It's all the more satisfying once they figure it out.
Who we are in the shadows by Quicksilvermaid (99,714 words)
What happens when youâre forced to become the very thing you despise? Ex-Auror Harry Potter, tossed out of the Ministry for something he had no control over, has been looking for a way back to his former life. When he comes across Draco Malfoy in the criminal underbelly of Wizarding London and in need of protection, Harry figures bringing him in to face the Ministry's justice is his ticket back to everything he's lost. But nothing is exactly as it seems. Not even Harry himself. And as he gets drawn further and further into Malfoy's world of honour and deception he finds himself questioning everything he thought he knewâabout his childhood nemesis, the Ministry job he misses so much, and most of all, about himself. What happens when youâre forced to see that you were wrong?
I wrote up above about loving a Draco who's up to something, and it's for a good cause. This fic takes that notion and turns it up to like, 15 at minimum. Draco's an investigative journalist, and he's going after some very dangerous people. He needs muscle, enter security agent Harry who's still adjusting to life as a werewolf. Harry tags along out of (hired) necessity on Draco's job, and they are a team not to be reckoned with. On top of their chemistry, this fic left me gasping for breath. Folks who've read it before will know what I mean when I say my heart was pounding out of my chest during the tunnel scene.
Star Quality by who_la_hoop (118,607 words)
Two years after the war, and Harryâs content with his life. OK, so itâs a little annoying that he keeps winning Witch Weeklyâs Most Eligible Bachelor award, and heâs really not looking forward to the unveiling of an enormous gold statue of himself, but he loves his friends, and he loves being an Auror. And if he yearns for something more, something he can barely bring himself to think about, well, heâll probably get over it. No oneâs happy all the time, are they? But then everything changes, and Harryâs thrown into a new and dazzling world heâs not sure he can actually escape from. And as time goes on, he starts to wonder: does he actually want to?
Draco and Harry end up in such a wonderfully ridiculous situation in this fic. Harry wakes up in an alternate (Muggle) universe where Draco is a pop star. The Draco of his universe has come along with him, and he's a total shit about helping Harry get them back home. Harry's grumpy, Draco's having a blast. It's fun. It's them.
The Day Before the Wedding by Kbrick (39,419 words)
Harry's getting married to Ginny tomorrow. The problem is that he can't seem to get beyond today.
Time loops and Kbrick, my beloved (Turning Leaves is another excellent fic of hers with this trope). The summary says it all for the premise. Like Star Quality above, Draco is 'in the know' with Harry (though he doesn't tell Harry right away lmao). Harry makes some Realizations in the time loop. Seeing as it's a Drarry fic and Harry was meant to get married to Ginny, I'm sure it's quite plain as to what that might be.
Bad Habits by No_One_Special_01289 (70,509 words)
Circles can be tiring. They have no end. But sometimes, the path is set for a reason, as anything outside the circle is even worse than what's within. Harry is running in circles with Draco Malfoy, and no matter how hard he tries, he can't escape.
Another fuck/fight kind of Drarry fic. This one takes place through OOTP, HBP, and DH canon, as if Draco and Harry had a secret sexual relationship throughout. I love how they come together like two accelerated particles, only to scatter to lick their wounds or attempt to process just what the hell is going on. It has the explosiveness that I love to see in Hogwarts-era Drarry fics when the war is on and they remain on opposing sides through to the end of it.
Dwelling by aideomai (83,382 words)
Curses, James and Lily Potter ride again, several Ministry balls, a teenage Summer of Love, a grim young adult dystopian winter, a few different Draco Malfoys, secrets and the problems re: not having any, alternate lives, impossible lives, real lives, allusions to Dirty Dancing, and just because it's not called the Mirror of Erised doesn't mean you shouldn't know better.
Listen: I bawled. I'm going to try to say this without spoiling the big twist. The fic nails how Harry and Draco tick together twice. Whether it's in a No Voldemort AU or a canon post-war era, these two cannot stay away from each other. I love the solution Harry and Draco reach at the end of the fic - the only way they can fathom any sort of resolution for what happened to them, despite how turbulent their waters remain.
Lovesick by corvuscrowned (7,688 words)
People keep spiking Auror Harry Potter with love potions. Healer Draco Malfoy keeps having to pick up the pieces. But it's getting harder and harder for Draco to watch Harry fall in love with everyone except for him.
corvuscrowned is another writer I put in the same category as Kbrick and The_Sinking_Ship. I've either read their fics and loved them, or just haven't got to the rest yet. What can I say? I love a slow burn. For more excellent fics from corvuscrowned, I will also humbly offer Loverboys (their first fic I read, which blew me away) and Seeker's High for your future reading consideration.
For this fic, the premise is on the tin, and crow executes it perfectly for characterization. I love their Harry in general, how he has his own complexes and the Harry POV isn't just Harry witnessing Draco's character. This fic is Draco POV, and Harry under a love potion is great. So is Draco's pining. They're perfect.
The Matchmaker's Spell by Kbrick (20,859 words)
Thanks to a spell cast over all of wizarding Britain, Draco is forced to marry Harry Potter, who still hates him. But Draco refuses to live a cold, sexless existence, choosing to fill the emptiness in his life and his bed with a parade of lovers. And while Harry may not be able to stand Draco, he despises seeing him with anyone else.
Remember earlier when I said that I trust Kbrick to put the boys in a blender at the exact intensity I could personally handle? This fic is right on the precipice of that. It's so angsty and dark. Draco and Harry are forced to marry, and their journey is so turbulent. Draco cuckolds Harry to push his buttons, and at one point their marriage goes well for a little while before shit happens and they're back on the rocks. They almost had it! We saw a glimpse of their potential!! Also, Draco's lovers keep mysteriously dying? That's sure weird and coincidental. The last scene in the fic made me gasp out loud.
Salt on the Western Wind by Saras_Girl (60,549 words)
When the war isnât quite as over as it first appears, a guilt-ridden Harry is sent to a mysterious safe-house. Among sandwiches, insomnia, and Mills & Boon, he discovers something quite unexpected.
This fic starts up right after the Battle of Hogwarts, where Narcissa demands the trio take Draco into forced hiding with them. This leads to Draco and Harry being accidentally bonded. Oops! I don't think I have to make the case for how well Saras_Girl characterizes the boys, but I think this one is my favourite so far of the ones I've read (also, obligatory Turn and All Life is Yours to Miss mentions here).
Recalibrate by Saras_Girl (20,921 words)
Sometimes, you need to step back and think about things from a new perspective. Other times, youâve just got to open your eyes to what you needed all along.
Yay, more eighth year! I read this one a looong time ago, but I still remember reading this and thinking 'oh, this is so them' at so many points. I am overdue for a reread.
Actually, that's probably true of all of these, lol. I should reread them and give them their own post/shower of love on that rec blog I mentioned.
This list took a couple days to compile. I could never make a wholly comprehensive one, but I believe I answered your question, anon. đ€Ș

Welcome to The Drarry Codex!
Happy to be starting this blog for Drarry fanfic recs. Please bear with me as I learn how tagging and all that good stuff works - I've been reading Drarry for... 7 years? I've got hundreds of bookmarks to sort through and pull from, and I love browsing tumblr, but I've never had my own blog. I'll do my best (and if any veteran authors have tips, I'd love to hear them)!
A bit about me, and what I've got in mind for the blog.
I have an English degree. Even at the height of school, I was reading more fanfic (like, double, at least) than actual books. I'm in grad school now. AO3's still my favorite way to unwind from a stressful day.
I've got a soft spot for soulmate AUs, potion accidents, drinking games, mutual pining, and 8th year. I read almost exclusively Drarry, though other things may come up occasionally - rare pairs, or tropes I'm particularly interested in at the time. I also love fanart.
The blog is 18+ and will have a lot of explicit/NSFW recs. I'm a big believer in don't like; don't read! I don't shy away from much, though things like A/B/O, mpreg, bestiality, age difference, non con, character bashing are on a fic-by-fic basis. Feel free to ask for anything. If I say no, I'm not judging, I just read what I enjoy since this is for fun.
As a disclaimer, I do not support JKR or her harmful views on trans people. Her writing is fullll of bothersome bias. However, as a queer woman raised around conservatives, Drarry was one of the first times I got to see queer representation. It's got a special place in my heart for that. I think it's very funny how obsessed canon Harry is with Draco when they are totally, definitely, 100% enemies with no attraction. Sure. Anyway, fuck TERFs. Drarry is still my OTP and I love this community for creating something better from the works.
If anyone has immediate suggestions for lists you'd like to see, I'd be thrilled to have them! Otherwise, working on some trope lists, so more to come soon!

could we have another fic rec pls!!!
YES. Yes, of course!
Currently I am reading:
Cut From the Sky: Drarry, time loop fic! I'm actually loving this atm because it's so different from any time loop fic I've read before!
Other fics I have read recently: (warning: loads of drarry!)
Follies of an Ornamental Hermit - Drarry, E, multi-chap. I am positively obsessed with this fic. It made god tier immediately. I am planning on rereading ASAP! I am in love with how both draco and harry are portrayed and it was so refreshing to see harry removed from the savior role!!! also literally any fic by @itsphantasmagoria and mallstars is a gem and absolutely worth the read!
Red, White & Royal Green - Drarry, RWRB, multi-chap. This was literally adorable. I read it one sitting and went to bed circa 3am.
Wild and Precious Life - Wolfstar, magic royalty au. Love a prince as a spy who falls in love with a commoner trope! Remus has a hot girl summer.
The Genesis Theory - Drarry, EWE, multi-chap. I wish I knew who wrote this fic bc I would, quite literally kiss them on the mouth. Its so good and I actually love the post war characterisation of Harry in this.
Here's Looking at You Kid - George/Blaise, E, multi-chap. This one is a bit rogue I know but it's also probably one of the best fics I've read this year!!!
We Keep This Love In A Photograph - Drarry, E, magical pregnancy. In all honesty I love this fic so much because it explores their relationship in so much depth! Sometimes I really miss reading about their established relationship and this is just a firm go to!!!
Soup-pocalypse and The Great Curry Cataclysm - Drarry, E, multi-chap, veela Draco. Honestly, felt like a rom-com and that is a win in my books every time.
ENJOY!!!!

O01 harry/teddy!!
...Hello, I see youâve found the key to my heart.
-
001 | send me a ship and I will tell you:
when I started shipping it if I did: Sometime early this year, early enough that I was compelled to write them for Cest Fest, and now I want to write them forever. All credit to the legendary LQT (whom Iâm far too shy to tag) for making me fall in love with them.
my thoughts: NO THOUGHTS JUST HAPPY TEARS. Ok but. Theyâre both war orphans for fuckâs sake, yay bonding, so I think they healed each other after the war. Teddy needed to be cared for and I imagine it was very therapeutic for Harry to provide that stable, unconditional love that he himself had missed in those formative years. And he was around just often enough that Teddy never saw him as a parent but always Cool Older Harry, so of course he idolized him since birth and was crushing on him the second he hit puberty.
What makes me happy about them: I started this in all caps, then told myself I would be normal. But god, they just get each other in a way that transcends age, like Sirry but, less problematic. I think Teddy keeps Harry young and grounded, even platonically before anything happens, I see their dynamic as like... built on inside jokes and knowing looks and unparalleled understanding that neither experiences with anyone else. Laughing about dumb shit to the point of falling over each other on the sofa like fucking teenagers (which, Teddy is, but), and it's a bit bemusing to outsiders because Harry is so serious most of the time, he has to be, most of us HC him with a pretty stressful job for much of Teddyâs growing-up, and Teddy is the counterbalance to that. Heâs the one who just sees Harry, not as Head Auror or Minister for Magic or Professor Potter or Dad or Husband but as... Harry. Just Harry. And unlike Harryâs family, Teddy has no requirements or expectations for him. He just wants Harryâs love. And his massive trunk of a schlong.
What makes me sad about them: Nothing. This is my one wholesome ship and they are unfiltered sunshine. Except, ok, how guilty Harry feels initially and how hard he works to repress his attraction, because godfather and duty and bullshit, but Tedward will cure him of that. With his dimpled smile and his perky little booty and his titty piercings that everyone seems to have agreed upon. (And possibly with the assistance of Draco, who is delightfully free of Potterâs terribly unbecoming ethical quandaries, thank you.) But yeah, no sadness, unless Harryâs still married when they hook up or when his feelings finally clock him over the back of the head, so raise a glass for angst, but he has to divorce eventually!
things I look for in fanfic: This is a ship where I prefer them both to be of age. I enjoy reading darker versions of Harry, but my personal HC is that he would never pursue an underage relationship with Teddy because: a) Harry prefers an equal balance of power, someone who can challenge him and match him. All canon indicates he doesnât want to have power over anyone; and b) Heâs come to realize over the years that his relationship with Sirius, despite it being everything he wanted, was actually quite problematic and he was far too young and thatâs what compounded the trauma of Siriusâ death to the point that it rewired how Harry approached relationships and heâs never fully recovered. So tl;dr my main preference is that Teddy is of age and Harry isnât groomy. I also love the trope of Teddy going away for awhile after school and then coming home, and Harry, poor dense Harry, is like oh dear oh shit he's quite horribly shaggable.
Who Iâd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Nope. Nope. These two are endgame, but Iâm happy to add Draco to the mix. Worse case, Teddy might go for James Sirius but I feel like it would only be because heâs the closest thing to Harry. :â( So, nope. Only Tedrarry OT3 or some polycule of Drarry/Scorbus/Teddy. Or... Sirius Lives AU and... yeah, I donât know, itâs basically a testosterone commune at this point. Multishipping is hard.
My happily ever after for them: Ride or die, they grow old together. I think Harry would wait a long ass time before proposing and never pressure him into commitment because a) heâs a bit broken when it comes to relationships and b) he wants him to feel free to explore life/others, even though the thought of him with anyone else literally shatters whatâs left of his soul, but he doesnât want Teddy to sacrifice any opportunities for him, wants him to be sure. Really fucking sure. Also Draco comes inside at some point.
who is the big spoon/little spoon: Harryâs the big spoon by default but Teddy is spoiled, heâll climb all over him, cuddle him however and whenever he wants like a cat, and Harryâs such a pushover for this boy, heâll let him. Let him do anything. Always has.
what is their favorite non-sexual activity: Quidditch, spending time with family, and they like to go camping. I think camping is when it started, at least thatâs how Iâm going to write it: for Teddyâs birthday, Harry asks what he wants and they talk about maybe traveling somewhere, and camping comes up kind of as a joke, but Ted actually loves the idea and they end up in the Forest of Dean so Harry can sort of overwrite that part of his life and create new (better) memories there. And boy, does he ever. [Discord insanesmirk emote.]

What are some of your favorite tropes/tags/scenarios to consume for drarry?
Iâm a big fan of touch-starved Harry, sickfics, potions accidents, and time loops/time travel! Iâm also a sucker for a professors!drarry au, or those aus where Teddy plays a part in drarry getting together too!
Oooh, well, I have to admit I am also a big fan of touch-starved Harry. I have a lot of favourite tags for Drarry. I tend to like rather cliche tropes. I like height differences or fics where Harry is very short, hurt/comfort (hurt!Harry), Top Draco (pretty much exclusively read this to be honest, I just have a hard time picturing it the other way), Slytherin!Harry, or Dark!Harry. I really enjoy fics in which Harry's precarious home life is discovered by Draco and actually dealt with. I like fics that lean into wizarding/witch culture and lore. I love school fics as well. Werewolves are a big fav of mine, specifically werewolf!Draco. Auror partners drarry is a lot of fun as well. I tend to gravitate towards anything in which Harry is a bit softer or shyer in personality, and Draco is ridiculously in love. ><

do you have any recs for drarry + workplace romance?
I definitely do, one of my favourite tropes! This list is strongly focused on office romance and as you can see it got a bit out of hand so Iâm gonna link two additional rec lists that might interest you: sports AU and Quidditch fics. Enjoy!!!
Measure My Lordship With Thine Vulgar Aye by @starquestingfordrarry (M, 1k)
Draco buys some Muggle magnets for the office.
Coded Office Missives by carpemermaid (E, 2.5k)
They had an arrangement. Malfoy would send a coded memo when he needed Harry. He knew to tell his secretary to hold his appointments, and lock the door after he arrived. It was a game they started when they were just starting their careers at the Ministry; itâs something theyâve kept up all this time.
The Keepers by RenVeree (T, 3.6k)
In the Rare Books Department of the Ministry of Magic, Draco tends to unique texts and, on occasion, a certain Unspeakable.
Graffiti and Insomnia by SilentAuror (M, 4k)
Harry can't seem to sleep these days. Perhaps it's the boredom of his office job, but all that changes with a bit of graffiti in the office bathroom one day.
Never Gonna Give You Up by InnerLilith (E, 5k)
Five times Harry rickrolls Draco and one time Draco gets him back.
Like This and Like This (Dreams of Lace) by @primavera-cerezos (E, 6k)
Harry gets an accidental peek. He canât think of anything else.
Say the words / then stay around by Teatrolley (NR, 6k)
Theyâve been together for a while when Harry decides that he wants to try the Auror Office again. What he doesnât consider is the effects the work might have on the two of them. But, then again, maybe those effects donât have to be all bad?
Interdepartmental Memos by GoldenTruth813, Henndra (E, 6k)
What do you get when GoldenTruth813 plays Harry and Henndra is Draco? An epistolary fic of course!
Contretemps by @moonflower-rose (T, 8k)
Draco Malfoy has been living like a model citizen. If only he could convince Potter.
Small Spaces series by @bixgirl1 (E, 8.5k)
Malfoy is like an itch under Harry's skin on an average day. It's even worse when they're trapped in a lift.
Love, Actually, is All Around by @punk-rock-yuppie (T, 10k)
It's Christmastime, and Harry has just started as the new Minister of Magic. It just so happens that Draco works in his office as well, a holdover from Kingsley's tenure. Naturally, love is in the air.
Settle in in my slow-burning heart, orphaned (NR, 10k)
Five years after the war Draco is working a tech developer job in the Auror Office, and it's all great except this one thing: Harry Potter works there, too. Things only become stranger when Harry starts bringing Draco ugly souvenirs back from his work travels.
Sweet Indulgence by @the-sinking-ship (E, 10k)
It doesn't matter that Marcy from Accounting is dancing on the tables, Shacklebolt is wearing antlers, and Elliot from Transportation is on his third round of Mariah Carey on karaoke because all the free champagne in the world won't salvage the Ministry Christmas party for Draco if Potter doesn't show up soon.
Little Talks by Femme and noeon (E, 11k)
Draco's been shagging the Head Auror for months now, and he's sure it's just a fling. Until Harry asks him to a Quidditch match, that is, and things go horribly wrong.
This Unexpected Windfall by mindabbles (E, 11k)
Harry doesnât like it when Draco is called in to work one of his cases. No. He doesnât like it at all â at least thatâs what he tells himself.
Crossed Wires by @skeptiquewrites (E, 11k)
Harry James Potter, Member of the Wizengamot for Godricâs Hollow, Secretary for Transport is ill-suited for the world of wizarding politics. Enter Draco Malfoy, Director of Communications for the Minister for Magic to moonlight as his press secretary. It should solve all of Harryâs issues with the press and Dracoâs issues with over-work. Theoretically.
What Real Thing? by @l0vegl0wsinthedark (E, 12k)
They donât cuddle, they donât talk about their relationship (or lack thereof) and they certainly never fall asleep in each otherâs arms.
Title of Their Sex Tape by @cibeewastaken (T, 12k)
What are the Wizarding world's most elite law enforcers doing when they aren't catching criminals? It seems Auror Malfoy is often caught throwing food into Auror Potter's mouth when he's mid-yawn.
In Which Harry is Magnetic North and Draco Is An Idiot by bryoneybrynn (T, 13k)
For as long as he can remember, Dracoâs been bringing fake dates to his familyâs annual Yuletide celebration in order to evade his motherâs matchmaking. This year, Potterâs posing as his pretend boyfriend.
The World of Management (Or, Harry Potter and the Office Romance) by @moonflower-rose (E, 15k)
Draco Malfoy is the heart and soul of the Department of Magical Games and Sport. The only thing standing in the way of professional bliss is his boss. And Harry Potter.
Give Me a Quiet Mind by @wellhalesbells (T, 16k)
Draco is Weasleyâs assistant. Except for the week heâs not. Whose brilliant idea was that again?
Ardour of Karma by @xx-thedarklord-xx (E, 17k)
âMalfoy knows something is going on with you and unless you both want to go back to fighting and death glares, you should fix it.â âHow do I do that? Just waltz up to him and say, âI know Iâve been a prat but your scent makes my dick swell. Howâs your day?ââ
Common and Cliché by bryoneybrynn (E, 17k)
Aurors Malfoy and Potter have to work a case on Beltane. It would be simple if everything wasn't so damn distracting.... For those of you who are wondering, yes, I've tried to cram in as many h/d clichés as possible. But hopefully the story works as a story, too. It's not crack!fic by a long shot but it is a bit tongue-in-cheek.
Knot Your Average Coworkers by @thecouchsofa (E, 22k)
It takes Harry a while to work out that every month, almost like clockwork, Draco is given an assignment in the field that takes him out of their shared office for days on end. After each assignment, Draco returns looking so bloody exhausted that Harry gears up to file a complaint with their boss.
Little Red Courgette by @blamebrampton (T, 31k)
When this season's purple courgettes are woefully thin, Draco Malfoy thinks it amounts to small beans. Next thing he knows, the Department of Standards is over-run with leeks, Brussels sprouts all sorts of legislative difficulties, and somebody appears to have put a roquette under Harry Potter.
The Vanishing Department by @dictacontrion (E, 47k)
The things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end, even if that involves a lot more form-filling, bickering, covert glancing, miscommunication, and flying furniture than we might expect.
The Darkness Before the Dawn by Ren (E, 55k)
A mysterious creature is loose in London, stalking and killing people. Auror Harry Potter requests the help of a liaison from the Beast Division and gets saddled with Draco Malfoy. Will they be able to stop the creature before it claims more lives?
We Are Young (I'll Carry You Home Tonight) by Femme (E, 70k)
Harry and Draco have been falling into bed on and off again since the last election five years ago, much to the amusement--and financial gain--of their circle of friends. But when Harry agrees to work with Draco to put Kingsley Shacklebolt into the Minister's office, they can't work side-by-side again every day and sleep together; that would be courting disaster. Wouldn't it?
The Liars Department by @dorthyanndrarry (T, 103k)
This is a story about Harry meeting up with Draco Malfoy four years after the war. And a story about Harry, well, not hating his job per say, but it's not like he has much to compare it to and it seemed fine. His whole life seemed fine.
Make This Leap by @oflights (M, 118k)
Harry owns a struggling restaurant which is running out of money, and his Head Chef has just handed in notice. He's at a bit of a loss as to what to do until Narcissa Malfoy presents an obvious solution: bring in Draco Malfoy as Chef and part owner.
All Our Secrets Laid Bare by firethesound (E, 149k)
Over the six years Draco Malfoy has been an Auror, four of his partners have turned up dead. Harry Potter is assigned as his newest partner to investigate just what is going on.
Tales From the Special Branch series by Femme (E, WIP)
When Gawain Robards asks him to form Special Branch seven-four-alpha, Harry Potter knows they'll have to work outside the confines of the law--even though they are the law.

hello! what would you say is the best draco characterisation youâve ever read in a fic? and what have you read recently that you really liked and would read again?
also, i love everything you write :) thanks in advance!
I once saw this fanart that depicted the three main forms of Draco in Drarry and I have to say it's the most accurate thing I've ever seen lmao. My personal preference is somewhere between 'nutcase' and 'fake it till you make it' Draco. For light-hearted fics, I like those that capture the meanness of Draco's humour and his difficult personality; for serious fics I enjoy those where he truly wavers on the line of moral ambiguity.
Away Childish Things by lettered
Harry gets de-aged. Malfoy has to help him.
A great exploration of all the parts that make up the whole of Draco Malfoy.
any day now by oknowkiss
Draco Malfoy considers the circle.
I like this Draco for his moral greyness, self-preservation, internal conflict and risk aversion
Temptation on the Warfront by alizarincrims0n
Draco Malfoy is forced into hiding with the Golden Trio and dragged into their search for horcruxes. What ensues is a journey of redemption, unexpected friendships and an unwanted, turbulent romance with Harry Potter. Warnings for swearing, sexual content, and dark themes.
This is probably one of the most plausible DH-era Draco's I've ever read. The way he speaks to Hermione alone is enough to put it on this list. It's rare to find contemporary Drarry fics that are willing to commit to his nastiness and bigotry.
Such Great Heights by aideomai
Draco Malfoy, wide-eyed and pale and in a decidedly ragged shirt, was crouched next to the pile of whatever the dragon had been eating. Harry threw himself to a halt and yelled, âMerlin, how many times do I have to save your life?â
Draco's crabbiness and difficult personality here is so good. This Draco has always been a major influence for me. This line in particular is iconic:
âDue respect, sir,â Draco said, because apparently even weird romantic feelings or whatever they were werenât enough to keep Draco from throwing Harry under the bus the moment an authority figure appeared, âIÂ havenât done anything. Iâve been working nearly non-stop the past few weeks - you can ask Mr Borginââ
Lorelei in the Menagerie by BelladonnaLee
"I think my dead son is haunting the manor," says Draco when Harry runs into him in an antique book shop. Driven by yearning and suspicion, Harry offers his help and is drawn into a web of secrets and half-forgotten nightmare.
I think anything I say about this fic would be a spoiler but I really enjoy Draco's twisted grieving here. Also considering my usual character preferences, I think you'll see why I like this one so much if you read it.
Heal Thyself by astolat
"Are you going for the course?" Lovegood asked. "You have the NEWTs.â
âWhat course?â Draco said, then, âNo, donât be ridiculous,â when he realized she meant the notice pinned up on the board heâd been staring at:Â Applicants To The Introductory Mediwizard Course For The Coming Term Shall Present Themselves In The Chief Mediwizardâs Office By August 24th.
âOh, I thought you might,â she said. âWell, goodbye.â And off she wandered again in her addled way.
Amoral, ambitious character accidentally becomes a good person in their pursuit of status/money/power is one of my favourite tropes. It's also why I like Tom Riddle Snr in In the Bleak Midwinter so much. Astolat in general writes a great Draco.
What We Pretend We Can't See by gyzym
Seven years out from the war, Harry learns the hard truth of old history: itâs never quite as far behind you as you thought.
Despite the heavy sounded summary, this is actually a crackish humour fic. Certainly an excellent example of nutcase Draco. The villain reveal at the end is 100% my favourite part I stg.
#sorry im like a month or two late on this anon#asks#anon#fic rec#as for what i've read recently - i haven't really been reading much draco content recently tbh#it's all tom

I'm doing it again!!! Limited Time Harry Potter Requests!!!
Soooo here's the rules dudes, dudettes and everyone else -
Pick one from each category (ship, trope and location) and any extra requests for your fic and either drop in in a private message or a comment on the post! All of the fics will be posted on my ao3 and I'll post on tumblr, tagging you as soon as I've posted it. Because I'm back at school in a couple weeks, I can't really give a time frame of how long it will take for me to write it but I'll aim for about a week. The fics won't be incredibly long (3000 words +) unless I get super inspired!
Now for the ships!
Drarry (Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter)
Wolfstar (Sirius Black/Remus Lupin)
Dramione (Hermione Granger/Draco Malfoy)
Ronmione (Hermione Granger/Ron Weasley)
Jily (James Potter/Lily Evans)
Snarry (Harry Potter/Severus Snape)
Hinny? (Ginny Weasley/Harry Potter)
Jegulus (James Potter/Regulus Black)
Snamione? (Hermione Granger/Severus Snape)
Hermione Granger/Harry Potter (couldn't think of a ship name so make your own đ)
Remione (Hermione Granger/Remus Lupin)
If there are any other ships you want for a fic other than the list, just drop me a message and I'll see whether I can do it!
The tropes -
Any AU (Give as many details as you can in the request!)
Getting together
Domestic Fluff
Friends to lovers
Enemies to lovers
Only one bed (I had to include it!)
Hurt/Comfort
Established relationship (If you donât say that its a getting together fic, Iâll assume that its established relationship anyway)
Mutual pining
Letter writing (as in, the ficâs in the form of letters between one another)
Enemies to friends to lovers
Omega verse
Pregnancy
My level of spice (as in, not a lot but as far as Iâm willing to go with your specific story)
I know that some of these tropes arenât to some peopleâs taste, and I am open to other suggestions, like I said with my ship list. However, if something that you want makes me uncomfortable writing and posting, I will message you and let you know that I am uncomfortable with writing that, and you can choose another trope!
The Locations -
The Forbidden Forest
The Gryffindor Common Room
The Slytherin Common Room
Third Floor Girls Bathroom (Moaning Myrtleâs Bathroom)
Number 12 Grimmauld Place
Privet Drive
Classrooms (whichever one is appropriate)
Teacherâs office (again, whichever one is appropriate)
Again, I'm open to more suggestions in requests, because I want to be able to write things specifically for you and I want you to enjoy it! If you want a fic to actually happen in Draco Malfoy's walk in closet, I'll try my hardest to write that for you!
I'm hoping to do more of these little request things in the future, with more specific themes, so look out for them after this one!
Deadline - 24.9.23

Hi!
9, 12 & 22 for the writer asks! đ€
hi!!âșïž
9. start to finish, how long did it take you to write the last fic you posted?
well, the last one i posted was thermo but thatâs not finished yet⊠i just checked actually and i first created the doc on the 9th of march, so that makes it roughly 3 months since i started? But i finished the first chapter in about a month-ishâŠi have not yet started chapter 3 yet (đ„Č) bc after posting chapter 2 i want to finish the newest chapter of my drarry but i think itâll be done in june!
(ruffle your feathers, on the other hand⊠took me 2 weeksđ)
12. a trope youâre really into right now?
Iâm actually kind of in a reading slump rn so i dont even know what I want to read, but I think Iâve been craving hurt&comfort and angst⊠been reading some good delicious drarry with hurt!harry and it scratched an itch đ I!!! also got back into reading lestappen which iâm really glad abt since i havent read them for a few months but i found some good ones and yes, they were a bit angstyâŠ
22. do you ever worry about public reaction to what youâre writing? how do you get past that?
i do worry a bit, I think? But over the years Iâve learnt itâs better if I just treat these stories as if I let their hands go⊠if I have expectations I usually end up disappointed lol which Iâm sure is like an universal feeling. I try not to let it get to me and thankfully since my fics donât get like too much attention i also donât really get negative comments (thank god) but! The former does make me a bit⊠idk, sad I guess? like with winter things, I do understand that itâs a season specific story but it did not get as much attention as I expected it wouldâŠ
But also I think I just learnt to manage it over the years tbh, I donât check stats often to let myself be surprised when i do haha and i just hope there are other people out there who also enjoy my silly little ideas (the hits on somebody else are insane like in sane???)
