Harry had tried not to let it get to him—had told himself it didn’t matter. Hadn’t Draco always kept him at arm’s length, anyway? What was one more cold shoulder? They’d never been friends. They were colleagues; Harry reminded himself he was just there to keep him alive. This narrative fell apart when, on a particularly drunken pub night, Draco ran (literally) into Theo Nott.

Okay, planned to just use this blog for recs, but I’ve actually got a WIP going now! Based on a prompt by @praline-elegy with an accidental telepathic bond:

Maybe I’m evil but I had this drarry idea where they get accidentally bonded and the first thing Harry thinks of is, “oh no Malfoy’s going to find out that I have a crush on him!!” and Malfoy whips his head around, mouth agape, and stares at Harry.

Harry: Oh no 💀

He hears Malfoy think some semblance of surprise and Harry is like, “uh, uh—what can I—oh no he KNOWS now uhhhh—” and then decides to stupefy himself so that he doesn’t have to confront the situation at hand.

The last thing he hears in his mind before he plunks into unconsciousness is, “Potter, are you serious?!”

I’ve got another chapter drafted, so I should have updates soon. I’m new to writing, so (friendly) criticism/feedback/whatever is welcome :D

"It's got to be Ginny," James said, sitting back onto the sofa next to Regulus and sipping at his glass of wine. "I mean...c'mon. He's been looking at her for a while! She's pretty, funny, a damn good Quidditch player..."

"And a redhead," Lily chimed in from the loveseat, winking at her ex-husband.

"And a redhead," James acknowledged, inclining his head with a chuckle. "I'd bet money on her being his girlfriend."

"Sure, she's pretty," Regulus, who was sitting next to James, drawled, "but she used to pine after him! Harry's going to walk in here with Hermione, just you wait. She's pretty as well, and she's smart, and they've been friends for ages."

"Ginny's smart!" James retorted, sounding offended, like Regulus had said something about James's own intelligence.

"Sure, but Hermione's grades are top tier," Regulus shrugged. "Nobody can beat them."

"Hermione's in love with Ron, I guarantee it," Lily said confidently, sipping at her own drink. "Hermione and Harry get on too well. There's no tension there."

"Poor Hermione. Why do the smart ones always fall for the emotionally stunted?" Regulus mumbled, smirking when James shouted 'Oi!'

But after scoffing at his husband, James sighed and addressed the room at large. "Alright. Let's say it's not Ginny or Hermione. Who, then? Cho? Luna?"

Finally, Mary, who was sitting next to Lily, gave a little giggle.

"You have an idea, love?" Lily asked curiously, turning to her wife.

Mary grinned. "No, it's none of my business," she said airily.

"You've known Harry since he was a baby," Regulus replied, rolling his eyes. "Just because you've only officially become his stepmother recently-"

"Ugh, 'stepmother' sounds awful...like I'm going to lock him in a tower..." Mary grimaced.

"Whatever. What're you thinking?" James asked eagerly.

"Isn't it obvious?" Mary said, eyes on Regulus, who gave her an annoyed head shake. "I'd bet my life he walks in with Draco Malfoy."

James and Regulus's sitting room was silent for a long time.

"Nah, that's-"

"There's no fucking way-"

But Regulus was the one who said thoughtfully, "No...she has a point."

James stared at his husband like he had three heads. "Love...Harry hates Draco, you know this! You...you both make fun of Lucius Malfoy together!"

"Yes, it's great bonding," Regulus agreed slowly. "And I'd sooner die than say anything nice about my cousin or her husband. Why do you think I haven't so much as sent them a letter in almost twenty years? But...well, you and Harry are very similar, James."

"Meaning what?" James asked incredulously.

Lily let out a little laugh of understanding. "Meaning he could also fall for the grumpy, pretentious Slytherin with a shit upbringing and a horrible outlook on life and somehow realize that said Slytherin isn't as shit as his family is."

Regulus frowned. "Grumpy?"

James, however, gave Lily an affronted look. "Are you saying that our son inherited my...what? Attraction to Slytherins?"

"Maybe your attraction to people who insult you, too," Mary mumbled from next to Lily, and everyone laughed except James.

"But I-" James began to argue his case, but before he could, there was a crack! outside, and loud voices could be heard.

"...was going to tell them! I just didn't know how!"

"You can't just surprise your family with this, Potter! They may be 'nice people' but they're still capable of going into heart failure!"

"Listen, Malfoy, it's going to be fine. They don't care who I date, as long as I'm-"

"-Happy, yes, well trust me, I'm not going to be making you happy for a long time if this goes poorly because you didn't give them the decency of a warning!"

"Listen, you need to talk quieter, alright? They can probably hear, and..."

And the voices trailed off into whispers, all four adults looked at each other with wide eyes.

"Well....I like him," Mary said, breaking into a grin. "But I'm just the stepmother, so..."

Everyone else groaned and moved towards the dining room.

Well. Well. This certainly wasn’t on today’s agenda. This certainly wasn’t in the plans. Harry didn’t even know this was something that could happen today. He hasn’t expected this. At. All.  He glances at his watch. This was supposed to be quick refresh-your-head walk. He is supposed to be back in his office in 15 minutes.  He is not going to be back in his office in 15 minutes. How in the name of Merlin’s saggy ballsack is he supposed to turn around and go back to his office after this? He’s staring. Blatantly.  Fuck. God fucking damn it. Malfoy looks up.  He looks good.

Stumbling onto Apples and Oranges one autumn night was one of the biggest wins of my life. Harry's and Draco's characterisations are spot on and Harry's internal monologue - especially when he finds Malfoy attractive! - is just so hilarious to me I could not be charmed quicker. The whole bet - proving that falling in love in 10 dates is not possible - aka gay chicken made so much sense once I started reading the fic. And once you get in you get in; I had trouble putting the fic away and I read it in any possible free moment.

After a disastrous blind date lands him an unflattering headline in the Prophet, Harry's friends convince him that being a contestant on a wizarding dating show couldn't be any worse.

Harry’s crush on Draco is met with icy rejection of any attempts at friendship, let alone anything more. Ron and Hermione have had enough of watching Harry fail at dating. They convince him to go on a magic blind dating show to find someone without the pressure of fame getting in the way. He’s hesitant but tries to build a genuine connection.

Thank you to @dawninglark for the fic recs - I hadn’t read them (I’ll get to the other once I’m emotionally ready for a “Harry dies” fic), and this was sooo good!

My main pitch is that the pacing is amazing, and the angst/fluff balances out perfectly into a satisfying treat. There’s great tension without being overwhelming, and there’s sweetness without falling into cringey, rushed emotion. 

While on the run, they encounter two muggle OCs I absolutely love in a cute, sort of witchy, very cozy cottage. It’s lovely. 

Tag notes: Holocaust - included as part of muggle history; comes up in OC conversations. Mild dub con - definitely mild, any confusion clears up quickly, tagged here to be sure.

Welcome to The Drarry Codex!

Happy to be starting this blog for Drarry fanfic recs. Please bear with me as I learn how tagging and all that good stuff works - I've been reading Drarry for... 7 years? I've got hundreds of bookmarks to sort through and pull from, and I love browsing tumblr, but I've never had my own blog. I'll do my best (and if any veteran authors have tips, I'd love to hear them)!

A bit about me, and what I've got in mind for the blog.

I have an English degree. Even at the height of school, I was reading more fanfic (like, double, at least) than actual books. I'm in grad school now. AO3's still my favorite way to unwind from a stressful day.

I've got a soft spot for soulmate AUs, potion accidents, drinking games, mutual pining, and 8th year. I read almost exclusively Drarry, though other things may come up occasionally - rare pairs, or tropes I'm particularly interested in at the time. I also love fanart.

The blog is 18+ and will have a lot of explicit/NSFW recs. I'm a big believer in don't like; don't read! I don't shy away from much, though things like A/B/O, mpreg, bestiality, age difference, non con, character bashing are on a fic-by-fic basis. Feel free to ask for anything. If I say no, I'm not judging, I just read what I enjoy since this is for fun.

As a disclaimer, I do not support JKR or her harmful views on trans people. Her writing is fullll of bothersome bias. However, as a queer woman raised around conservatives, Drarry was one of the first times I got to see queer representation. It's got a special place in my heart for that. I think it's very funny how obsessed canon Harry is with Draco when they are totally, definitely, 100% enemies with no attraction. Sure. Anyway, fuck TERFs. Drarry is still my OTP and I love this community for creating something better from the works.

If anyone has immediate suggestions for lists you'd like to see, I'd be thrilled to have them! Otherwise, working on some trope lists, so more to come soon!
