Hello! I was wondering if there was any specific date on when club sign-ups began. At first I thought it was after the Spelldrive tournament, since Chapter 3 was the first time in the main story that clubs were brought up, not to mention Deuce and Ace not knowing Jack and Floyd during Chapter 2 despite being clubmates. However, I just read Riddle's Ceremonial Robe SR, where Silver mentions club sign-ups being almost right after orientation, with Sebek signing up for the Equestrian Club in that vignette, so I'm a bit confused.

I am not sure that Ace and Deuce not knowing Jack and Floyd was established in Book 2 đ
Neither Ace nor Deuce are a part of the group that goes to investigate the twins, and while Deuce does speak a little vaguely when they go to Savanaclaw there is not really any dialogue that confirms that he had never met Jack before!
(note: this is all covered in the novels, where Ace complains to the prefect about Floyd and greets Jamil as his clubmate in Book 2, while Deuce says outright that he and Jack are in the same club. The novels and the game tend to diverge in canon so a thing being true to the novels does not mean it is true to the game, but it is possible that the game had to cut down on extraneous details like who knows who from where, how, why, and when, in favor of focusing on the plot.)
We have seen similar vagueness before between Ace and Epel, who meet for the first time during Ace's ceremonial robes vignette.
Ace never says anything about not knowing who Epel is in Books 1 or 5 but he also does not say that they have already met, possibly because the game does not want to exclude people who are reading only the main story by referencing scenes from vignettes!
(It is hinted at, however, when Grim mistakes Epel for a girl and Ace corrects him, having asked Epel that same thing in his vignette.)
As with many time-related things in the game, the deadline for clubs is a little vague!
As you say Silver has a comment of "No sooner does orientation end than we must solicit our clubs," while Riddle says that "it is most prudent to decide on them as soon as possible, and Ruggie also comments that first-years visit clubs and pick one to join as soon as orientation is over.
The students seem to have multiple days to visit clubs and decide where they want to go, and in a vignette Ace still has not chosen his club despite how the deadline is the following day.
In Ruggie's vignette where he shows new students around the sports clubs Ace is already a member of the basketball club, so it is possible that Ruggie's sports-club tour was the final day for first-year students to choose their clubs and Ace had joined either that same day or the day before. (Ace himself says, "I've only been a member of this club for like five minutes!")
Also in Ruggie's tour vignette we have Jack and Epel, who already know each other! But Jack and Epel share a homeroom class (1-B).
If we wanted to make a timeline of club enrollment maybe it would look something similar to this?
Day 1 - Orientation (night of the first day) Day 2 Morning - First day of class (Jack and Epel meet for the first time) Day 2 Afternoon - Riddle and Silver in their ceremonial robes, waiting for new members Time passes - Ace has not submitted his application yet, the deadine is the next day Final Day Afternoon - Ace is a member of the basketball club, visited by Ruggie during his sports club tour for undecided first-year students.
Book 2 and the spelldrive tournament take place in October, which seems like it would be quite a lot of club-time missed out on by new students, but as we have been given no exact timeline we cannot be sure!
A club deadline is also mentioned in the novel, and much like the game there is no specific date, but it is prior to the tournament đŚ
"Yuuya and Grim were told by the headmage that they would both have to choose the same club. As they were only able to enroll at all on the condition that they form two halves of a single student, it seemed like a reasonable request to Yuuya, particularly as he has also been charged with corralling Grim, as his prefect. Yuuya had no objection.

HI IâM BACK AND I FINISHED SEASON 3 AND I HAVE THOUGHTSâ˘ď¸

Okay first: THE NEWSREADER IS ONE OF THE GREATEST TREASURES TO GRACE TELEVISION AND IT DELIVERED ON EVERYTHING
ANYWAYâŚ
The open ending as far as Helen and Dale goesâmy shipper heart is a little sad we didnât get a more explicitly romantic ending for them BUT these two have so much healing to do, and it starts with being exactly where they are. Finding peace and happiness as individuals before they give themselves to any relationship. And I think, no matter what any fan was hoping for, they can take this ending and decide how it goes for them. (Also the loving way Helen spoke to him and looked at him while she was talking to him off air. đĽš) Theyâre both exactly where they need to be and in their element, and thatâs what the audience has been rooting for since day one.
THE PARALLELS AND CONNECTIONS TO THE FIRST EPISODE IN THE LAST ONE. Dale singing Kyrie in the car. Helen taking Dale home and talking care of him and âcoming up with a plan.â Fucking brilliant.
Helenâs journey this whole seasonâgetting a diagnosis and coming to grips with it. Being resistant at first but coming around and COMMITTING to getting better even when itâs hard and she hates itâfrickinâ facing the place where she was locked up and endured additional trauma. She truly came into her own, and Iâm just continuously blown away by Anna Torv and how, in every single project she does, she puts so much care and thoughtfulness into how she portrays her characters and the difficult situations they face. And sheâs just a fucking incredible actress. THE SCENE IN 3.03 AFTER SHE GOT HER DIAGNOSIS AND CALLED DALE BROKE ME. I donât think anyone else could have portrayed Helen. I just donât. And Helenâs arc was all the more satisfying because the writers/creators decided to trust their talent and make her just as much a part of the creative process.
And DaleâŚoh my boy Dale. Sam frickinâ Reid the actor you are. Daleâs character arc has to be one of the most intense and challenging Iâve ever seen on TV, and Sam probably had the hardest job. Daleâs breakdown? OH MY GOD. We always knew Dale needed to break. He would have to be driven to the brink to be human again. And, just like with Anna as Helen, there was no one more qualified to bring Dale Jennings to life. Holy shit. Incredible, meaty, deep storytelling happens when you have creatives with a vision and actors theyâre on the same page with. Sam got it from day one, and he saw it through to the end.
But Helen and Dale, stars of the show they are, are not the only incredible arcs we got to see. THE SATISFACTION OF WATCHING LINDSAY CUNNINGHAM GET KICKED OUT ON HIS ASS AND DENNIS SITTING IN HIS SEAT. The stuff of legends. And not just Dennis getting his moment (which we absolutely saw coming after he clocked Lindsay last season), but JEAN FUCKING PASCOE yelling at him from across the newsroom. I clapped. I cheered. And you know, I even cheered a bit for Evelyn Walters in all of it. Sheâs out for herself and still doesnât get it (and Geoff was far from a victim), but she stood when it counted. She took action on one good thing. And watching them all collectively work together to get Lindsay what he deserved? Delicious.
And then weâve got my girl Noelene who also went through The Mostâ˘ď¸ oh⌠Sheâs got so much to figure out about standing up for herself and what she wants, and Robâs got so much growing to do to be a better husband and father. But she did stand up for herself. She stopped being afraid to tell people how she felt and what she needed. She called Rob out on his racist tendencies and opened up to him about her work/motherhood balance, and she called out Helen for using her like everyone else and overworking her, and they both listened. She has hope ahead of her, and it was beautiful to see.
A few other small notes:
The whole Dale/Kay dynamic was so strange, but it needed to happen. Her constant comparisons of him and Geoff helped fuel his necessary fall. And it served to show what a terrible place Dale was in.
Cheryl got married!!! Good for her đŠˇ
Fuck Bill, and congrats to Helen for being like âIâm not gonna be punished because I didnât wanna fuck youâ
Tim gets a well deserved love and happy ending!!!
Iâm really happy they brought back Linus. What a treasure.
Overall, as sad as I am to see this show go, they delivered on all counts. Everything they said they would be, they were. Every arc, satisfying. Just so beautifully and masterfully done, and with love by everyone involved. 18 episodes of perfection. And if Michael Lucas and Emma Freeman ever produce another show together and hire Anna Torv and/or Sam Reid or any of the wonderful-across-the-board cast? I will get my VPNâs worth as an American and be there for it.

âWeâve gone on more dangerous jobs Topside than finding and bringing back poor Nikolai.â Silco huffed from where he stood before the bar at The Last Drop the next night. Connol and Felicia stood on his left side, while you and Sevika stood on the other, all huddled up tight as you tried to come up with a plan to get Nikolai back to the Lanes without paying that damn toll. âWeâd be in and out before the sun even rose.âÂ
âI know weâve been on more dangerous jobs. I know itâd be quick. But thatâs it--we. Not you two alone.â Vander huffed right back at him as he mixed up a drink. Benzo, who was also working behind the bar, reached across Vander to grab a whiskey bottle.Â
âI donât know, Vander. Maybe itâs for the best they go it alone.â Benzo started as he reached with his other hand for three shot glasses. âBetter only two get sent to Stillwater than all of us.â Benzo teased, making Silco frown deeply his way.
âHow âbout you shut your gob and pass me one of those.â You insisted, stretching passed Silco to lean on the bar top, holding a hand of wiggling fingers out for Benzo to do as you said. But Benzo did the exact opposite of handing you a shot and began to laugh his ass off at you.
âGob? You call that an insult?â You furrowed your brows at him.
âItâs--yes.â You hissed. âGob like a mouth like--â You glanced towards Felicia for help but she had turned her eyes towards where Vi was rushing about the bar, causing chaos that most didnât seem to mind.Â
Connol was the one who caught your eye, rubbing a hand over his short-cropped hair a few times as he shrugged.
âThat's not half bad. You know why, Zozo.â Connol started, a bit of playfulness shining in his eyes you all rarely saw. He was more the stoic type, but Felicia had seemed to soften his rugged edges a bit.Â
Benzo made a greatly displeased face at Connol. âZozo, aw gods that horr--âÂ
âCause in the mining world a gob is where we put all the extra waste.â Connol chuckled an airy thing. You cracked a wicked grin, a high laugh on your lips.
âAgreed. Stop spewing such utter waste about the plan and focus.â Silco coldly shot Benzoâs way, the man seeming to have traded his smile for Silcoâs frown.Â
âZozo, donât let them get to you.â Felicia butted in, taking her eyes off Vi for a moment to throw Benzo a kind smile.Â
âGods, Zozo again!â Benzo groaned, passing the shots to the three awaiting customers. Felicia shook her head with a smirk as she looked back towards the rest of you all.Â
âNo oneâs getting thrown into Stillwater though. I think--â The sound of shattering glass, a sharp hey!, and a very angry toddlerâs babish, yet strangely mean words cut Felicia off. âOh! Ah! Sorry! Vi. No, no!â She rushed off towards her now screeching three-year-old, Connol watching the whole scene in amusement.Â
âCan we focus?â Sevika hissed, blowing a stream of smoke from her lungs. âIâll go with them. How about that?â She huffed Vanderâs way, who was still looking all too concerned about this small little trip.Â
âI guess--â
âNo,â Silco cut his brother off, making a spark of that wolfish anger flash through Vanderâs eyes. âSevika is to go speak with her father. Gather him and his men to our cause. We need the muscle.âÂ
âNo fucking way Iâm going to speak with that old bastard.â Sevika slammed her fist on the bar top beside where you had been leaning your hands. She bent down to all but grit her teeth in your face. âJust cause you two are back to being joined at the lips doesnât mean you can go around tellinâ him my personal shit.â She hissed in your face, the remaining smoke from her lungs blowing into your face.
âI told him when you told me years ago. I didnât know what a secret was then, Vika.â You bit back.
âAnd thatâs supposed to make it any better?â She pulled away with a shake of her head. âGood fucking grief, guppy.âÂ
âWait--lips?â Felicia popcorned back in, a fighting and red-faced Vi in her arms. âYou two kissed? Again? No fight after? When?â She demanded, passing Vi off to Connol who got a cubby little fist to the jaw.
You thought back to how heâd kissed you last night. How heâd held your jaw so gently. How his lips had fit so perfectly against yours. Too perfectly. How heâd kissed you before saying goodnight and how heâd kissed you after heâd come back from work this morning. How heâd taken your hand and pulled you around the corner to kiss you before you two had joined the group in here.
âUh--â You stammered, brain buzzing in the memory of them all. âWe--the plan. We need to refocus on the plan.â You managed, glancing up at Silco to find that a dusting of pink had spread over his cheeks. Seafoam eyes looked over your face. Eyes that lingered ever so slightly on your lips.
Gods. You almost grabbed him then to give him an even closer view.
âI agr--â Silco could hardly finish his word before Sevika was speaking again.
âJust last night. Heard her telling Nadia all the hot and heavy details.â Sevika smirked making your heart spike sharply in your chest in slight panic. Felicia gave a delighted gasp, eyes glancing between the two of you.
âTell me, tell me please.â She reached across the way to grab your hand and give it a little tug.Â
âSevika is overexaggerating it.â You grit, shooing Feliciaâs hand away. âIt wasnât--well it was hot but I wouldnât say it was heavy,â Felicia giggled and you couldnât help but let your fluttering stomach pull one from you too. Silco said your name exasperated. âOh--sorry.â You gave Silco a little apologetic shrug. âI still donât think Iâm very good at keeping secrets.âÂ
âItâs not a secret.â Silco huffed, wrapping his arm around your shoulders so that he could pull your back flush against his chest. You wrapped your hand around his wrist as your stomach gave a giddy little flutter.Â
Not a secret.Â
It was a sentiment that made you feel all warm inside.
âBut what we do is none of you nitwits concern.â Silco hissed it around the small huddle of your friends, who all wore various different looks of amusement. âBesides, itâs only been a day.âÂ
âHow long have you two known each other?â Sevika sounded like sheâd grown bored of this conversion, but one look at her face showed the mischief still raging in her eyes.Â
âTen years.â You and Silco both responded without so much as a moment of hesitation. It only made Feliciaâs smile wider.Â
âTen years of friendship and annoyingly pining over each other. Iâd say itâs reason enough to fuck.â Sevika very bluntly said. A bluntness that had your face feeling like youâd shove it into a pot of boiling water and Silcoâs grip around you tightened the slightest bit.
âYouâre godsdamn lucky Nadia isnât here to scold you.â You hissed, giving her a shove that didnât even move a single hair on her head.Â
âItâs good to go slow.â Felicia chimed in, dodging another flying fist from her kid. âOtherwise you might end up with a perfect little boxer.â She grabbed Viâs chubby cheeks and littered it with kisses. Vi complained but held still to receive the affection.Â
Your heart hallowed out enough it loosened your hold on that nagging voice in the back of your mind.
You had slept with people you had had zero feelings for outside of an appreciation of their looks. You knew Silco had too so you couldnât help but think should you have?Â
There was no question in your mind about whether or not you wanted to. You did. Oh gods you did but a relationship like this with your good friend and someone youâd liked for such a long time was different. You didnât know a single thing about being in a serious relationship.

âAgain,â Silco began, his thumb rubbing over your exposed collarbone in a way that had you forgetting about that nagging little voice. âIt is none of your concern.â He leveled Sevika with a threat-filled glare she gruffed at but lowered her gaze to.Â
âWell--all Iâll say is it's about damn time.â Benzo chimed in, a friendly smile on his face. âBetter than you two squabbling all the time.â He slid a shot down the way for you, just as you had asked moments ago.Â
âNow,â Vander spoke once more, a happy little smile on his lips and a gleeful sparkle in his eyes that had quelled the wolf altogether. âSilco, rework the plan. You two wonât go alone but we do need to get Nikolai.â Silco huffed at this.Â
âIf we send Sevika, Connol, and Benzo to meet with Sevkiaâs father--â Sevika cut Silco off with a growl.
âI said Iâm not gonna mee--â
âI donât wish to make ya go meet with him, Sevika, but we need all the support we can get.â Vander started, beginning to make a fresh drink. âThe situation at the border is only going to get worse. We all know that. Would you like me to go instead?â Sevika watched him for a long moment, gray eyes hard and top lip twitching in her anger.Â
âNo. He wonât speak with you.â She took a long, deep drag of her blunt. âFuck it. Whatever. Next part of the plan.âÂ
âWe three can go find Nikolai.â Silco gestured to Vander, you, and himself. âNadia said their friend's home is one street up from the northernmost bridge. Weâll have to cross the river and hope Nikolai stays put.âÂ
âAnd how are we gonna get âcross the river?â Vander asked, placing a little flower on the top of the drink he had just made before passing it to a girl down the way. He came back over, a few coins in hand.Â
Silco looked to you and you to him.Â
You were the plan to get across the river. You were going to use your magic to create a small bubble of air for Silco so that you could swim him across under the water. That way no one would see you.
But now, with the added mix of Vander who knew nothing of your powers, would complicate things. You hadnât really ever planned on telling him of them. Telling any of your friends about them. Magic wasnât something people tended to think fondly of.Â
âWeâll swim across of course.â Vander raised a brow at Silcoâs almost too-cocky words.Â
âYou canât swim.â Silco shrugged.Â
âSheâs been teaching me.â Vander continued to watch you both with an âIâm not believing this for two secondsâ look. âItâll be fine. Just go with it.âÂ
âWhat about me?â Felicia asked. âI want to be involved too. I can still kick ass with a baby strapped to my chest. Sheâll help too.â Silco looked to Vander who both then looked to Felicia.Â
âWell, the plan was you would go stay with Nadia.â This only earned Silco a sharp glare.Â
âSo Iâm stuck on babysitting duty?â Felicia snapped.Â
âIt is your ankle bitter.â This only earned you an equally as sharp glare.Â
âItâs not just my ankle bitter.â Felicia shoved her pink-painted pointer finger into Connolâs shoulder, pulling a small ow from his lips. âWhy donât you stay on babysitting duty, huh?âÂ
âBabe, I would much rather watch Vi then go meet with Sevikaâs papa.â Connol readjusted his grip on his kid, who was now trying to throw herself backward out of his arms.Â
âAlright then. Change the plan.â Felicia gestured to Silco to do so.
âThis is the last time I am involving you all in the creation of any plan. I am the plan maker. I make the plans.â Silco gruffed her way, but Felicia only threw him a wink. âFine. Connol will stay with Nadia and Vi and Felicia will go with Sevika and Benzo. There. Do we all agree on the plan?â Everyone in the group gave a round of nods and sounds of agreement.Â
âI still would like to know how weâre going to get âcross the river,â Vander said. You grabbed for the shot Benzo had given you and held it up his way.
âYouâll like it. Itâll be fun.â And you downed the burning liquid in one go.
âAll this talk of crossing rivers reminds me of this old song my mom used to sing to me before bedâŚoh how did it go.â Felicia mused, looking over her daughter's face in thought. A soft, not very in-tune hum sounded from Connol, pulling Feliciaâs eyes to him.Â
âThat one?â Felicia beamed up at him with a nod. âPopular amongst our parents huh?âÂ
âWhat else is there to do besides get crafty when Topside locks you completely out?â Felicia muttered, eyes squinting a bit in further thought before her whole face lit up once more on a small gasp. âOh! Got it!â And she began singing the lyrics to the tune Connol had started. Her voice was beautiful and instantly caught the attention of Vi, who was rightfully transfixed with it.Â
A deep, buried part of you knew youâd heard it before. A deep part of you that didnât even feel like it was supposed to be you, but it was there nonetheless. It remembered you of that tugging, calling youâd followed to save all those kids years ago.Â
It was something that scared you. That made you feel--other. Other than human. Other than a living breathing being and more like a cold, watery thing that was called around by the arcane.
You instantly snuggled deeper into Silcoâs chest, needing to be reminded that you were in fact, standing there with him. To feel him hold your physical body that was breathing. That was living.Â
Silco was glad to hold you closer. Glad to move his hand around to find yours, intertwining his long fingers with yours.Â
âLullabies get you nowhere.â Sevika hissed, stubbing out the small bit of her blunt left in the ashtray before her. âOur parents were cowards.âÂ
âGood thing we arenât.â Silco gave your hand a squeeze.Â
Your grip on Silcoâs hand tightened as you yanked him sharply behind a few stacked crates on the Undercityâs side of the river. It seemed that blocking the bridges off hadnât been enough, they had needed to send enforcers patrolling the wharf as large spotlights illuminated the surrounding areas in search of any that might be trying to cross.
You two had expected there might be a stray enforcer or two. That you would have to work fast as soon as Vander joined you to get across in case someone spotted you.Â
But this many enforcers--it was as if you had kicked a bee hive and sent all their drones on high alert.Â
You hadnât expected this and Silco definitely hadnât, otherwise it would have been put into his plan. A plan that was currently going way off course. So off course it had made Silcoâs caltualting brain freeze, nearly getting him spotted by one of those enforcers had you not dragged him back here.Â
Youâd known Silco to freeze up like this before. Mainly during jobs you two and Vander did Topside that didnât go as planned.Â
He froze when he was scared too. Vander had told you of his worry about it a while ago. How itâd almost gotten him killed down in the mines during cave-ins.Â
You thought it was cute. Gave you something you could do for him. Had let you get close to him before you two caved to your feelings.
âGods--â Silco gave a frustrated little sound as you slowly peeked around the crates, finding a group of three enforcers had stopped just a little ways away from you. âI--sorry.â You waved the apology off as one of the enforcers started complaining about how she was going to miss the game tonight cause she was stationed here.
âUgh--Iâll never get over how fucking dull Pilties are.â You murmured, pulling back to a crouch before Silco, who youâd all but thrown against the crates, long legs sprawled to the sides and hair scrunched against the salt-stained wood. âItâs like theyâre programmed to all think and talk about the same shit. Oh yes, let's go toss that egg-shaped ball and give each other concussions. Or, or! The spouse is nagged at me to lose some weight again. And blah, blah, blah.â You gave a goofy smile Silcoâs way, to which he only continued to stare up at you nearly dumbfounded.Â
âI--you know I almost just got us caught right?â Silco pulled himself up a bit from his thrown position. âI froze.â You shrugged.
âAnd? It would have been fun, huh?â You shuffled closer so that you could lean closer to him. âHigh stakes. Fast chase. We would have beat them obviously.â The corner of Silcoâs lips pulled upward. A small tug that pulled into that easy smile you liked to see him look at you with.
He dug his hand into the inside pocket of his jacket and as he pulled it out, the smallest flash of gold caught your eye.Â
You thought for a moment he had pulled the flask you had given him out, but what he held was too small and easily concealed within his palm.Â
âWhat do you have?â You asked, shuffling ever closer. âSomething shiny.â Silco gave a small exhale of amused air.
âHow did you even see that?â You shrugged.
âI like gold. I like shiny. I like shiny gold. Iâve trained my eyes to spot it.â Silco gave another small chuckle.
âYou remember the second time you, me, and Vander snuck our way Topside? Back when we were kids?â You nodded, eyeing up his fist to try and spy what he held within it one last time.Â
âYou convinced Vander that going to the beach was a risk worth taking after the job we pulled.â You mused and you thought of those beaches. How clean they had been. How the waters, even though they were connected to the same grand sea, had sported not a single speck of trash. How the sands had been yellow-white and full of the most gorgeous shells you had ever seen.Â
It was found memory for you, being able to see such beautiful waters, but a memory tinted in bitterness towards the people who wished to rule over you all completely.Â
Your beaches and waters were nothing like theirs, even when they were so close. Even when they were made from the same lands and waters. Yet yours were full of toxins so potent it left stains on a person if left in them too long. That corrupted one's body--ate away at it. Toxins so strong they had left the sandy beaches a pitch black.Â
You loved your waters, but seeing how--natural everything was Topside had left a sour taste in your mouth.
âAnd you remember that small sand dollar you found and I foolishly broke?â The anger at Piltover simmered in the background of your mind as Silco continued to recount the trip. âInstead of getting upset, you gave me a half. Said it would be a physical showing of our friendship.âÂ
âI do remember.â You nodded, though your heart sank a small bit. âI--Silco, I lost my half.â
âNo, you didnât.â You blinked at him. Then again.Â
âHow would you--â

âHow--Sevkia would have killed you if she had seen you break in.â Silco tossed you a cocky little smirk.Â
âYou two donât get off work till seven. I get off at five. I had time. And you really should change the hiding place for your spare key. Very obvious.â You rolled your eyes and gave his shoulder a small shove.Â
âYou gonna give me my half back?â You held your hand out, palm side up as you gave your fingers a little wiggle.Â
Silco opened his hand to reveal what he had been hiding from you. It was the two halves of sand dollar, but small, delicate holes had been made to the tops to fit a gold bail in each. Brown leather had been threaded through that to create a pair of matching necklaces. And to top it all off, small, golden charms had been added as well. Two seahorses.Â
âNikolai put them together for me. Made the charms.â You ran your fingertip gently over the half you knew to be yours.Â
âAnd did Nadia know?â You found Silcoâs eyes again, but he shook his head.
âNearly killed the man trying to keep it a secret from his wifeâŚbut we all know Nadia is worse at keeping secrets than even you.â He teased.Â
âI only donât keep them from you. Never felt right.â Silcoâs seafoam eyes filled in that warm softness he only ever showed you.Â
âI wanted to give this to you earlier in apology for my behavior butâŚI was--nervous.â You nodded in agreement knowing you had felt those very same overwhelming nerves too. You ran your fingers from the rough sea dollars to feel over the heel of his palm. âI am glad you broke our silence. It was eating me alive.âÂ
âIâm sorry I didnât break it sooner. I was nervous too.â Silco gave you a smile that was just as warm as his eyes were. A smile, though not toothy as others might give, was the most breathtaking smile you had ever seen. Would ever see.
âI was thinking youâd wear my half and Iâd wear yours.â He started, grabbing up the half that was his. A half that was a bit more jagged and held a long, oval hole in its side. âIn way of showing our friendship, yes, but also in promise weâll be there for each other. You once told me seahorses mate for lifeâŚâ You nodded as he reached to clasp the necklace around your neck. âWellâŚI wish that for us. For us to be together. Side by side. For as long as youâll have me.âÂ
His words hit you like a brick. Words that filled your chest in such excitement and warmth you didnât know what to do with it all. A happiness that made your cheeks sting from the wide smile your lips refused to let go of.Â
âIâll have you.â You took your side of the necklace from Silcoâs palm, seafoam eyes tracking your every move as you clasped it around his own neck. âIâll have you for a long, long time. Till weâre old and wrinkled and canât make it down the stairs.â You pulled a small chuckle from Silco as you let your fingers trace the skin of his collarbone, right where the sand dollar lay.Â
âI was miserable when we fought.â You continued, âAll I wanted to do was talk with you. Be with you. I donât see that changing any time soon. You make me happy. I want to be by your side for a long, long time. I hope we can hold on to each other like seahorses do against rough currents.âÂ
Silcoâs fingers brushed over your cheek, holding it so tenderly in his palm as he looked at you like you were some rare gem hidden amongst dull rock and coal.Â
âIâll hold on. Face whatever is to come as long as I have you by my side.â You nodded in utter agreement as he pulled you ever closer.Â
âHead on, right?â The pointed tip of Silcoâs nose fluttered over yours, an amused huff of air puffing against your skin.
âYes, head on. Together.â Slightly caped lips pressed sweetly against yours. Lips that moved against yours, turning your mind to pleasant mush in your skull. Lips that swept the whole world away like some storming sea. Lips you thought about so much, it might have become an addiction.
âBoy, am I glad you two are finally together.â You and Silco jumped at the deep voice that sounded hushly in your ears.Â
Teeth clanked and noses squished together in both your startled natures, faces whipping around to find the larger form of your friend kneeling there beside you two.
âWhat in--how long have you been there?â Silco venomously hissed at Vander who kept on watching you with an all-too-happy grin on his lips.
âJust got here.â He sounded not at all bothered by the bite in Silcoâs tone. Though you knew Vander was more than used to the sharp way his brother spoke. âYa know, from the moment Silco rushed to save you from those carp-brained idiots from the docks, I knew he was smitten with you. Could tell youâd been smitten with him long before that.â You couldnât help the giddy little laugh that spilled from your lips.
âI mean--how couldnât I have been?â You grabbed Silcoâs nose gently between your index and middle finger, giving it a small shake. âLook at him. I was a goner as soon as I laid eyes on him.â Silco huffed grumpily, shooing your hand away as that dusting of pink you loved made another appearance. A dusting that turned into a splash of red when Vander gave a little too loud a laugh for your surroundings.Â
You three tensed at the sound of voicing of too-close enforcers. Before any officers could come to snoop around the crates you were heading behind, you three slipped through the long shadows the spotlights cast around and found cover behind a dumpster in a smelly alleyway.Â
âPlace is with swarming with bucket heads, huh?â Vander voiced as Silco peeked his head around a bag of trash.Â
âTheyâre taking what happened at the bridge more seriously than I originally thought they would,â Silco mumbled, tracking a pair of enforcers that walked past the alley.Â
âWho knows what they told their fancy pants council.â You hissed, âProbably tried to cover their asses. Tell them we took the first shot.âÂ
âOnce Nikolai is outta there and safely back down here, then weâll push them back Topside,â Vander said. Thatâs when you noticed what heâd been carrying around with him. What he had taken so long to get before meeting you two here.Â
His pair of mining gauntlets.Â
He was ready to fight. Oh he was more than ready. The wolf had overtaken his gentle eyes. Eye now fully committed and bloodthirsty to the revolution you all had been dreaming about.Â
âHow are we gettinâ across, sweetheart?â You glanced back to Silco who was already looking back to you. He gave you a small, steadfast nod in reassurance.Â
âOkay--promise not to freak out?â You started as you began unscrewing the top of the canteen of water you kept attached to your belt. Vanderâs brows furrowed in confusion at your words.Â
âFreak out? What would I freak out about?â You sighed dramatically.Â
âJust promise.â You insisted, a flicker of amusement pulling at Vanderâs features.Â
âOkay, okay. I promise.â You watched him for a second longer before grabbing for the water within the canteen with your magic. You pulled a flowing line of water from its metal confines, letting it twirl and twist around in the space between you and Vander.Â
And Vander looked--pale. Like he was gonna freak out.Â
âOh--shit.â He muttered.Â
âYou promised not to freak out.â Your heart hallowed out as he continued to look so utterly shell-shocked. You unconsciously pulled your waters closer, allowing them to snake around your fingers.Â
âIâm not.âÂ
âAre too.â You quickly shot back.Â
âDid--Silco knew?â Vander asked, looking towards his brother who had pressed his shoulder against yours.
âOf course I knew.â Silco sounded almost proud of this fact. That he had been the only one to know for so long.Â
âHe stumbled upon me throwing those carp-brain idiots into the harbor with it. I probably wouldnât have told him if he hadnât seen me do it. People and the arcane donât like to mix.â Vander continued to watch you. Watch the waters you were nervously pressing into a ball between your hands. âAre you--scared? Do you--I wish you would say something.â
âSorry--I--sorry. Itâs just--no. No, Iâm not scared.â Vander started, though it did nothing to help ease your fears. âIâm shocked is all. This is--you donât see this every day.â You nodded in understanding.Â
Something like two pieces of a puzzle seemed to click together in his mind. âYou--when that pipe burst in the Drop but the water somehow found a way to stay in a nice pool instead of flooding the whole place. That was you?âÂ
âYep.â Vanderâs face finally broke from that stillness and a cheery smile pulled to his lips.Â
âDamn, sweetheart. You saved our asses that night. Wish I could have thanked you.â You shrugged.
âJust wanted to get back to sleep.â Vander gave a chuckle.
âDid you also explode that drink in Benzoâs hand when he wouldnât lay off the shit?â You gave a mischievous little smirk.Â
âGuilty.â Vander shook his head, recognition catching on to another memory.
âYou did the same thing to Felicia too, huh? When she--â You quickly shot the water in your command at Vanderâs face, keeping him from going on about that night.Â
Only the second night Felicia had hung around your group. Another night she and Slico couldnât seem to stop their endless flirting together. You didnât think the sip or two left in her cup would ruin anyoneâs night completely if it was shot all over her face.Â
âAlrighty. Weâve wasted enough time going on and on about memories.â Vander pulled a hand from one of his gauntlets to wipe the water you splashed in his face off. He gave you an all too cheeky look, telling you he knew exactly why you wanted to keep him quiet about it around Silco.Â
âAlright, alright. Lay it on me.â He chuckled.Â
You and Silco laid the plan out for him carefully before you three were starting for the river once more.Â
âAnd they were roommates.â
âGods--they were roommates?â A pair of enforcers gossiped from where they stood by a street lamp, guns lowered as they gossiped about whatever Piltie drama they had going on.Â
Just as a beam of light from one of the spotlights up on the bridge moved past them, you collected another ball of water from your canteen and sent it hurtling towards some fish crates further away. The wood crashed to the ground, sending the enforcers rushing off to investigate.Â
You three were quick to rush for the waters, you sprinting ahead so you would be in the water to catch your friends when they jumped in themselves.Â
When your feet hit the edge of the wharf, you pushed your body out and downward in a nice, streamline dive. Air rushed around your skin before being replaced with cold water that flowed around you as you curved your body around and back upward.Â
Just as you broke the surface, you heard a shout. A shout that did not belong to either Silco or Vander and definitely belonged to an enforcer. One that had spotted the two men just as they were jumping off the edge.Â
One enforcer turned into two that turned into a whole horde rushing about on land, calling at you three. Commanding you to stop. To come back inland.Â
Vander was the first to hit the water, his large form and gauntlets making a huge splash that sprayed back up at the enforcers whoâd just made it to the edge.Â
Silco hit the water, seafoam eyes catching yours and showing you the trust he held in you just before he vanished beneath the surface.Â
The sound of guns being cocked and warnings to come back before they would fire rang through your ears.Â
A spotlight found you and the sinking boys as guns rose a bit higher.Â
You summoned your magic to dance through your veins and over your fingertips. Felt the waters around you flow faster and faster as you smiled wickedly up at the enfocers watching you.Â
Water rose on your command, roaring around you as it grew and grew into a wave much larger than any river could have created on its own. Just as you sent it hurtling toward the now screaming and terrified enforcers, you dove into the depths of after your friends.Â
You found Vander had grabbed hold of Silco, both trying to swim back to the surface but failing horribly. Even though you had taught Vander to swim, he still wasnât strong enough to carry a whole other person and support himself in the water.
You sent your magic to flow around them both, holding them in a gentle cradle before beginning to quickly pull them further down and across the river.Â
You shot through the water with ease after them, catching up to Silco first. He grabbed hold of your wrist as you created a small air bubble around his head. A bubble that funneled thinly upwards to provide fresh air for him to breathe the whole way.Â
Silco gave a deep inhale of air, eyes wide and scanning over your face as he pulled you closer. You allowed it, quickly dipping your face into his bubble to rest your forehead against his.Â
âOkay?â You asked as Silco nodded against your skin.
âYes.â You titled your face so that you could place a small kiss to the tip of his nose.
You pulled away from him then, gliding the sort distance to Vander who was looking a little more panicked than Silco had been. You made quick work of creating his air bubble, Vander giving a sharp curse as he gulped down air. With a sheepish little sorry face and a pair of thumbs up, you swam away, body moving through the water like a human-shaped dolphin.Â
Your magic kept Silco and Vander close by as you swam them across the river. Fish drew to you like you were a magnate, which was a typical occurrence when you were within or sailing on a larger body of water like this. They came and tickled at your cheeks as they brushed against you in their way of a hug.Â
âAre you a mermaid?â Vander asked from just a little bit behind you. You found him watching you in stunned curiosity, while Silco was watching you in that warmly soft way he often did. A way that made your stomach flutter like a group of minnows had swum within its lining. You created a small air bubble for yourself so that you could respond.
âHa. No. I wish. Iâd get a kick-ass tail if I was.â You grazed your fingers over a gray-scaled fish, it moving closer as if it was some waterbond cat.Â
âThen--what are you?â He asked as a look filled his eyes. A looked those kids you had saved years ago had given you too. A look filled with awe. In wonder. In a yearning for something beyond comprehension.Â
It was a look that made you feel not human.Â
You instantly regretted showing him your magic. Instantly wished to dive deeper into the depth just to get away from that look.
âSheâs human, Vander. A born mage.â Silco spoke, coming to your defense and taking that look from Vanderâs eyes.Â
âOh--yeah. Of course. Just curious.â You gave him a small smile in understanding. One that turned into that of utter gratefulness as you looked back to Silco. He smiled gently for you, fingers moving within the small current your magic was creating as if he might reach for you. You almost reached for him too, but you kept swimming onward.
The other side of the river came upon you in the passing of a few more minutes. You surfaced, leaving the boys below in case of an ambush.Â
It was quiet Topside. Not a single enforcer marching up and down the wharf. No spotlights or gates. The bridge seemed to have been unattended this side of the river. All you found was a sleepy stretch of cobblestone and buildings far nicer than anything the fissures had to offer.Â
It made you worry.Â
You had made a show of using your power against those enforcers. A mistake in using them so blatantly, but you knew if you hadnât, those guns would have been fired and they would have hit you or worse--your friends.Â
The enforcers should have been on high alert over here in anticipation of your arrivalâŚ
Maybe they just believed you drowned in that wave. Maybe they thought it had been a natural occurrence and youâd been swept away in it. That the boys had sunk to the bottom of the river never to see the sky again.
You glanced over your shoulder back towards your stretch of home.Â
Spotlights still roamed the land and waters. You could just vaguely make out enforcers rushing about over there, still in a panic over you three slipping past.Â
Maybe they just havenât had time to get over here yet and in that case, you all needed to move fast.Â
You pulled the boys to the surface, keeping them cradled in your waters until you had placed their feet on the ground Topside. Using your magic to push you onto land, you were quick to grab for Silcoâs hand. He grabbed it back just as you were opening your mouth to tell them of your thoughts when light blinded you.Â
The sound of armor clanking and voices shouting filled your ears and you knew instantly you had led your friends into an ambush. You knew just how foolish you had been in thinking they wouldnât have alerted their people over here.Â
âPut your weapons down and your hands in the air. Slowly.â Your eyes adjusted to the light to find you had been surrounded by enforcers, guns aimed straight at you all.Â
Silcoâs hand was tight in yours. A tightness that became slightly tugging, like we was trying to slowly bring you behind him.
Vanderâs gray eyes found yours. Then they found Silcos.
Hard eyes. Determined eyes. Eyes that seemed to be begging for a fight.
âI said--â A blur shot at the head enforcer. Metal slammed into his face so hard, you saw teeth and blood fly.Â
Vander had been that blur. Those gauntlets of his looking more wicked than any knife or gun the way he was attacking. Attacking any and all enforcers that he laid eyes on.
A gun booming to life and the heated air of a buttle narrowly missing your face spurred you into action. Silco let go of your hand just as you let go of his, the both of you grabbing for the knives strapped to your sides and hurling yourself into the fray.
Your body twisted and weaved and sliced through an enforcer.Â
Then another and another and--
A gun was slammed sideways into your face, pain screaming through your nose as it gave a sickening crunch. Pain that you snarled and bit back against before you were cutting down that enforcer.Â
Your fist slammed into another oncoming enforcer's jaw just as a body slammed into yours.Â
Skin broke upon impact with the cobblestone. A fist pounded into your temple, momentarily turning your vision blurry as you roared and reached blinding for the body on top of yours. You grabbed a fist full of hair and pulled with all your strength, causing the enforcer to shout.
Another wild fist hit you in the shoulder as you yanked her downwards, rolling so you could jam a knee into her stomach to keep her pinned down.Â
You had just raised your fist to attack when a gun was pressed against your throat, yanking you back and off of the enforcer, the tightness enough to sharply cut your air supply off.Â
You gagged and gasped, fingers fumbling to try and alleviate the pressure when your eyes caught sight of Vander.Â
An enforcers had jumped onto his back. Then another. And another and another until Vander was brought to his knees under the weight of them all. A new wave of enforcers appeared to point their guns at him, shouting commands and threats his way.Â
You found Silco a little ways away, sprawled on his back, blood trickling from a cut on his forehead as two enforcers pointed their guns directly at his heart.Â
Their fingers tightened on their triggers.Â
Their eyes--they were getting ready to fire.Â
Seafoam's eyes frantically glanced around the wharf. Eyes that found yours. Eyes that were--remorseful. Apologetic and full of the gentle softness he only ever showed you.
And you knew then he knew there was little to no chance of escape from the guns pointed at him.Â
You sucked in as much air as you could around the pressure against your throat and gave a ragged scream into the night air.Â
You felt the waters in the river roar in answer. Felt the waters between the cobblestone cracks answer. The water in the pipes and fountains answers. Felt them begin to swirl and rise and rage.Â
Your blood boiled.Â
Your vision blurred.Â
Your ears filled with ringing so loud it drowned out your friends and the enforcers before you.Â
Seaform eyes smiled.
Silence washed through your ears--through your being.Â
Ba-dumâŚba-dumâŚba-dumâŚ
A heartbeat rang through your mind. A fastened one. One that was beating heavily against the activity it was doing.
It was a sound your magic cocked its head at in curiosity. A sound that faded out into soft roaringâŚlike a flowing river.Â
Water.
It was water you were hearing. Water that called to you to take and command. Water you did just that too.Â
The enforcer behind you gave a pained sound. A sound that spurred you to push those strange waters harder. To make them rise and rise until the enforcer was dropping their gun to the ground.Â
You found them on the ground, clawing at their throat as they gasped for air. Found their eyes watering and pooling over. Waters that bubbled from their nose and ears and mouth. Waters that ran red.
And you pushed it higher until they slumped over, the light having left their eyes.Â
âWhat the fuck!â An enforcer nearby shouted. âHoly shit! By the gods! You--Youâre a frea--â You grabbed hold of the strange waters flowing within his veins. Watched him panic at the relation that he was next. Watched him run and scream in pain and trip over his own feet.
You watched as those waters poured out of him in the same manner as his comrade.
You watched him drown on dry land.Â
And you should have found it sickening. The hollowness gnawing at your senses should have told you that. The warning bells that rang through your mind.Â
These were not your waters to command.
These waters belonged to those enforcers and those enforcers alone. Just as Nadiaâs blood you had struggled to control had been hers.
It was something you were never supposed to have power over.Â
It wasnât a part of you.Â
Not like how the waters in the river were a part of you. In the streams and pipes.Â
It wasnât you.
That chilling hollowness pushed your body forward. Had your powers latching onto the two enforcers who had been a hairs width away from ending Silcoâs life. You commanded these dark waters once more with little care about whether they were yours or not. Not when these people were trying to kill your family.Â
You raised your other hand towards the enforcers holding Vander down as the two began to drown before Silcoâs eyes. You commanded their waters and watched them claw and cry and scramble before they joined their comrades.Â
Vander was quick to his feet, eyes wide as he gazed upon you.Â
Fear.Â
That hollowness hardly let you register it though. Not when your magic felt more enforcers rushing your way. Enforcers you stopped in their tracks with a daggered glare their way.Â
You felt--powerful.Â
More powerful than youâd ever felt.
It felt sinnful but gods it was near addicting. An addiction you wanted to cave into as you set your sights onto the bridge just a few feet away.Â
You felt as if you could go up there and end it all.Â
Felt as if you were strong enough to march through the streets of Piltover, find their foolish councilmen and just end their terrible reign.
That hallowness laughed in agreement with you. It egged you on. Told you to take that first step. Had your feet moving towards the bridge. Moving past Silco who was still sat, watching you slinetly.Â
He called your name quietly as the winds blew through the streets.Â
He called your name as the winds rushed around you.
He called your name and The Winds called it too.Â
âStop.â The Winds commanded.Â
Your feet kept moving. Your veins boiled and pounded screaming out for more, more, more.
The Winds whipped around you like a tempest.Â
Your vision blurred and black dots danced in their corners.Â
When had it gotten so hard to breathe? You wondered and yet that dark energy kept pushing and pushing until those dots overtook you.
âYou donât know what youâve meddled in, little one.âÂ
Your eyes flew wide at the voice. One you hadnât heard for years. One you thought abandoned you and everyone in the Lanes.
You stood and you felt your throat tightened.Â
You were no longer on the wharf.Â
You were no longer in reality.Â
Endless sky.Â
Endless night.Â
Stars twinkled and galaxies bloomed silently before, upbove, and below you.Â
And you--you werenât you--
Your waters whirled over your skin. Was your skin--your body.Â
A strangled sound pulled from whatever strange mouth you possessed in the horror of it all.Â
You were--you must be dead. That was the only explanation for this all.Â
âYou have not died.â That voice spoke again. You snapped around to find your guardian and--terror gripped your soul.Â
A begin made of gold and white and wind floated before you. One with wings sprouting from its arms and hips. One with bird's feet and clawed hands. One whose face was smooth gold with a halo of that same gold circling over its head to match.Â
âYouâre--youâre an angel.â You croaked out in horror. The angel shook its featureless head, gliding closer to you.
âI am Janna. As you knowâŚthough--also as you donât.â Her wings gave a ruffle as if saying youâd never seen her this way.Â
âJanna--no--I--where are we?â You were beginning to panic. To freak out.Â
âDo not be afraid.â She tried to soothe.Â
âFuck--FUCK! Donât be afraid? What the hell am I supposed to feel?â The being--Janna--gave another ruffle of her wings.Â
âFeelings have little to do with this. You have touched powers that do not belong to you.â Youâre throat only continued to tighten. It was so tight you thought you might suffocate right then and there. âThose souls were not yours to take.âÂ
âSouls--you mean those enforcers?â Janna didnât move. You would have said she was just watching you if she had had any eyes to watch you with. âThe ones that had been trying to kill me? Kill Silco and Vander? I was protecting the people I love.â Janna again was silent. Was again unmoving.Â
You gave a frustrated growl, whatever fists you had balling.Â
Youâre fear--oh, it was turning into anger. An anger Janna and Janna alone could only ever bring out in you.
âYou know what--screw this. Where the hell have you been? Itâs been four years.â Your waters flared around in answer to your rising emotions.
âItâs beenâŚfour years?â Janna repeated slowly. âTruly?â
âFuck!â You hissed. âYou are meant to protect us! You. And you canât even bother to know how long youâve been gone!â You took a step closer to the floating spirit who looked more like a god in that moment. âWhere have you been? Why have you been gone?âÂ
âIâve been guiding the heart and mind of an interesting young woman. One whose battle with the Gray aligns with my own. Iâve been overseeing her progress.â You scoffed. Scoffed and couldnât help the pinch your heart gave.Â
Some young woman? Some random girl? Someone who wasnât you? You were Jannaâs ward.
âIf you canât get rid of the Gray, no one can.â
âShe will keep it at bay within theseâŚvents as she calls them.â You just watched her in utter--shock. In anger and rage and wrath. Oh you were pissed.Â
âLet me out.â Jannaâs feathers ruffled. âLet me out of whatever fucked up purgatory you have me in right now,â Janna said your name like a warning.Â
âI brought you here because you went beyond your realmâs limits.âÂ
âI donât give a shit. Let me out!â Your waters began to swarm around you. Faster and faster they whirl.Â
Wind whipped after it. Wind that tried to grab hold of you and keep you in this horrid place.Â
âThe Arcane is our master. We are not masters of it. You challenge it, it will destroy you.â Janna called around the roar of wind and water.Â
Stars began to move.Â
Galaxies.Â
Everything was swirling wildly around in the tornado the Winds and Waters created.Â
âYou hurt another creature we are meant to preside over,â Janna continued, âand I will stop you.âÂ
And there she was.Â
The Janna you had known your whole life. The strange, wispy elven being who had raised you. Whose glowing eyes seemed to--noâŚno youâre mind was play tricks on you butâŚthey looked to be begging you to stop. To forget the dark power you had tipped your toes into.Â
It was emotion in her glowing eyes. Emotion she could not and had not ever shown you before.Â
âDo not make me go against you.â She all too calmly spoke.Â
Light cracked through the starry sky like the shattering of a mirror. Light that spread and spread till it began to engulf you and Janna whole.Â
âYou will not win.âÂ
It was dark. Dark andâŚsmelled like a homemade meal.Â
The ground beneath you was carpeted. Soft.Â
There was something solid next to you. A body. A body thatâd slung an arm around your waist to keep you down. You felt your body tense at the realization. That you didnât know where you were or who was caging you in place.Â
You readied yourself for a fight. To get up quickly when a sleep-filled voice you knew in seconds spoke, âYouâre awake.â Silcoâs voice instantly had you relaxing into his hold. Relaxing and realizing just how much pain you were in.Â
The fight on the wharf. Youâd been beaten. Bad and your body was definitely feeling it.
âWhere are we?â You whispered back. Silco shuffled closer to you, nuzzling his face against your head.Â

Silco gave a small sigh from his nose but settled back against you, his arm now holding you very so gingerly.
You two lay in the dark for a long moment. You listened to his even breaths in your ear. Enjoyed the warmth of it over your skin. Tried to let it take that strangeâŚnothingness ringing in your chest away butâŚbut it was stuck there. Stuck like it was held there with super glue.
Silco whispered your name in question against the shell of your ear. You nodded in answer.Â

Jannaâs words rang in your mind. Her promises of fighting you and of her sureness in winning.Â
You thought of that emotion that had broken over her ever-emotionless face.Â
She--she had been scared. Saddened and disappointed all in one. Â
And it rattled you more than you had expected. Left you wondering if you should listen. If that taste of power you had felt was worth making her look like that.
If that taste of power was worth this strange numb feeling in your chest. Worth feeling less than human.Â

âIâŚdonât know.â You answered honestly, finally moving to turn your face into his chest despite your body barking at you in pain. Silco held you tightly, fingers moving over your back in soothing circles. âAreâŚâ You swallowed sharply against the tightness that seemed to have carried over from that strange world. âAre you scared of me?â The question was hardly even a whisper. A breathy thing. A scared thing.Â
You didnât want him to fear you. Didnât want him to look at you like those enforcers had. Like Vander had.
âNo.â Silco quickly said. So quickly it had almost overpowered your own words. âI would never be scared of you.âÂ

s6 episode 10 thoughts
hmm⌠scully seems to be black and white in the image for this episode. maybe she has had this power to turn greyscale the whole time and she has simply never chosen to wield it until now. how fascinating of her!
ah, i see that the one after this is likely a two-parter, based on titles alone. so i had better focus now before things get crazy.
the description here emphasizes that scully will be the one pursuing this photographer!! i hope that bodes well for our girl!! i need lots of scully time!! or else terrible things happen to me!!
post-episode thoughts: we need to release the cut of this episode where mulder and scully team up to destroy this ritter fellow. i know mulder had to physically restrain himself from choking that dude out. frankly, he usually has FAR less self-control, so this was a big step for him.
but first and foremost, this was a scully episode. and there is so much i want to say. about living!! and dying!! and loving!! and what scully wants for herself!!! and i am sad, but i am pondering!!! and i want her to be happy!!! and in the process of editing my notes, i got myself so worked up over the whole thing that i simply cannot articulate anything!!!! which is such a shame, because if i had words, i would use them!!! at length!!
we open in new york city, where a woman gets help pushing a shopping cart out of an elevator to deliver some mail. mail time!!! wait. who is behind her?
get away from her. she is working. STOP FOLLOWING HER. IâM SERIOUS. now the elevator is taking too long to come get herâŚ. and the creepy guy gets in. GET OUT OF THERE. YOUâRE MAKING ME ANGRY.
why can creepy man see everyone in black and white? until he steps out of the elevator, and all of the color returns.
oh shoot. he gets out and then the elevator starts breaking. so he takes the STAIRS. and it falls!!!!Â
heâs taking a picture of the collapsed elevator?? with the bodies in it???Â
now who does that helpâŚ.?

someone else is doing a background check here at the FBI!! are scully and mulder free?? well, theyâre stuck on the same floor, so probably not. mulder is on the phone and fiddling with his pen.
no; they, too, are sadly stuck performing background checks. this is so sad!!! she can save lives!!!! and they use her for this!!!
she asks if mulder is ready to quit and he says âno. that would make way too many people way too happyâ <- LMAO well, that is entirely understandable
ohhh, she gets a strange call and is on the move. she was asked to go to kershâs office!! this cannot be good!! he hates her!! and she was the only one called!
OOO, WE SEE HER FILE. sheâs 5 foot 2!!! i didnât know that!!! but i figured she was somewhere in that area. and she lives in annapolis, maryland. like learning that mulder lives in alexandria, i do not know enough about geography to know what that means.
seems she was brought on in 1990 as an instructor of forensic pathology, and she was recruited right from the university of maryland. i did know this. but not the years during which it happened.Â
ARGH, i wish this screen wasnât so dark so i could SEE. it says something about physics. BA in physics?? ARGH! this is so frustrating. mulder had described her thesis as her âgraduate thesisâ, so maybe she did physics undergrad, physics grad school, then med school, then FBI.Â
well. itâs not focusing other than that, so i canât make any conclusions unless kersh announces what he sees inside. because he is the one reading her file.
some agent named ritter is here from new york. who are you, man? he found an old crime scene photo of a woman who passed away from an overdose. but the clock in the photo is 45 minutes earlier than her listed time of death. scully points out that a clock can be wrong. why is this ritter man, like, quizzing her?
hmm!!! from the newspaper, the other photograph of the body shows a totally different time, an hour and a half later!!! that is very weird. from the same photographer, too. iâm guessing he wasnât just hanging there for 2 hours and spacing out his picture taking.
alfred fellig is the photographer. ritter thinks that maybe he poisoned the woman and photographed her for personal pleasure, then came back later to do his job for the police and photographed her AGAIN. and while scully says that is âquite a theoryâ, there are 3 other photos of fellig's that show very different times according to different negatives.
she says thereâs no consistent MO, and he says there is no consistent anything. and he wants her help. kersh asks him to leave. what is afoot hereâŚ.
âi would say he has a promising career ahead of him. so did you⌠at one timeâ <- OH MY GOD???Â

âAGENT MULDER and i will begin immediatelyâ <- OH!!! she stood right up for him!!! what a good friend!!
but kersh says he is a lost cause. and that he hopes she isn't as well.
so now she has to go to new york city with this RANDOM GUY. oh, iâm pissed off FOR HER!! kersh must be trying to separate themâŚ.
fellig is getting off a bus and watching some guy have what appears to be a heart attack. heart attack (or coughing fit? chest pain?) guy is in black and white!!Â
he goes somewhere and gets some mail, patting his head with a cloth while fellig watches out the window. and he grabs his arm!! and falls!!!! AND FELLIG COMES CLOSER TO WATCH????
he pulls out his camera and takes a bunch of pictures of the dying guy, who he sees in black and white. very weird.
mulder is looking through a bunch of photos on his computer. ohhh, it looks like he found the pictures from fellig. âmulder. what are you doing?â âbeing nosy. eating my heart out. theyâre sending you on an x fileâ <- OHHH, HE LOOKS SO SAD AND LEFT OUT :(

âiâm thinking murder by telekinesis. iâm thinking maybe a shamanistic death touch. iâm thinking about the muslim superstition that to photograph someone is to steal their soulâ <- OHHH, LET HIM ON THE CASE :(Â
fascinating look into how he starts gathering leads based on the little information he knows about the case and his wealth of memorized strange facts....
he thinks theyâre splitting them up!!!! and heâs so sad!!! oh!! she tries to tell him itâs a one-time thing, but he isnât buying it.
she bites her lip, closes his tabs as agent ritter walks in, and introduces them. he very visibly wants to beat the guy with a hammer. and makes a point of calling him by his first name.
jump to new york city. ritter and scully are asking some cops about fellig. he has yearly renewals for his job a very long time, and heâs been doing it since 1964!!! he doesnât seem to have aged.Â
OH! this ritter guy seems fine enough, but he called her "dana", and that made me flinch. he doesnât seem to think itâs that weird fellig hasnât aged at all.
meanwhile, some other dude is being chased and calling for help. whoever is chasing him pulls out a knife and kills him!!! and fellig is there to take pictures of the scene!!
but the murderer finds fellig and starts stabbing himâŚâŚ he steals felligâs camera as the blood pours everywhere. but fellig gets up!!! and pulls the knife out of his own back!!! ack!!!!Â
the blood from his body is red and didnât cause any gassing, so i donât think heâs one of the shape-shifting aliens, but maybe heâs some sort of vampire or vampire-like creature?? maybe he sucks energies from the photos of dying people he takes??
ritter and scully find the knife with felligâs prints on them.
âwhatâs this?â âa whole lotta bloodâ âyeah, i got thatâ <- LMAOOOOO, do not separate her from her bonded pair or she will be mad. scully clearly does not think there is a second victim because there is no second body.
ritter says it is âjanuary 4thâ. so does this take place BEFORE rain king, somehow? or did we jump ahead a year? you know what? iâm gonna try not to think about it.Â
that seems like a weird detail to include for it to just prove the timeline wrong.
(i'm still annoyed about this 24 hours later btw)
theyâre interviewing fellig. scully watches from the corner. he says he saw someone stealing a kidâs shoes and tried to run him off. he claims he touched the knife after the murderer left.Â
OHHH, she picks up on the fact that he is in pain and is closing in on him like a shark smelling blood. yeahhhh, noir detective. ritter seems fascinated by this but like, come on, we all are. heâs not special.
fellig confesses to being cut. and she helps take off his shirt to see the gashes. ritter says to get his blood drawn and take pictures.
âhey, iâm confused. i thought we were trying to bust this guy, not look for reasons to let him goâ âi thought we were looking for the truthâ <-YEAH, YOU TELL HIM đĽÂ
he gets pissed and leaves
AWWWWW, MULDER CALLS HER AND SAYS IN A STUPID VOICE THAT THEY USED TO SIT NEXT TO EACH OTHER AT THE FBI :,) AWWWW, LOOK AT HER TIRED SMILE!!!
WAIT, WHY DOES HE KNOW ABOUT THE STABBING, LMAO????? âi told you, iâm nosyâ <- WHAT DOES HE KNOW??
they found another murdererâs prints on the knife and felligâs blood all over the place⌠yeah. so fellig probably isnât killing these people outright.
DID HE HACK INTO THE NYPD DATABASE SOMEHOW?? LMAOOOOO???
NO, HE GOT THE FILES FROM KERSH SOMEHOW, AND HE SEES THAT FELLIG HAS A HEALING FACTOR. LMAOOOO, oh he is gonna get in TROUBLE!!
but he says kersh has (mostly) nice things to say about her. which is kind of him to add.
he whines his way into doing a background check on the murderer, saying itâs what he does now. and you can tell she wants to say no, but also knows that saying no to him wonât do a damn thing, lmao.
why does he have access to kershâs filesâŚ.?
scully is joining ritter in a car at 1 am. seems heâs doing a stakeout on fellig. ritter tells her to have a LOVELY evening in a way that seems like he really hates her. man. i thought he was kinda chill at the start of this episode. except for the way he was quizzing her. and ignoring fellig not aging. maybe he was a jerk all along and i simply tried to be kind.
time for scully to flip through some more murder photos. OH NO!! she hears the camera clicking in the distance⌠and ritter just walked away!!! IS HE GONNA BE DEAD???
she knocks on felligâs door and says âexplain thisâ LMAO, get those answers!! how did he take a photo of a murder an hour before the police arrived?!Â
she says he needs to explain himself or he will not know a momentâs peace. and trust that she means it.
fellig says to take a ride with her, which has me scared. and then he drives her around for an hour!!! he says he is looking for the shot.Â
he finds a woman on the street corner, saying sheâs about to die, could be a minute, could be an hour. scully grabs her gun, thinking heâs going to do something nefarious. he says the way they die is always a surprise- he just always knows when.Â
âyou want me to believe that?â, she asks
but then a man comes toward the woman on the side of the road, and they start fighting. scully gets out of the car! and she grabs the dude!!! he is under arrest!!! i fear she may only fulfill the prophecy somehowâŚÂ
she takes a gun off of him, and when he claims it isnât his and calls her âredâ, she slaps him on the face, omfgâŚ. just a little slapâŚ. but it was enough
BUT NO!!! when scully goes to ask the lady on the side of the road if sheâs okay, the mystery woman gets hit by a truck!!!
OMG????? and fellig comes in to get the shotâŚ
ritter is mad as HELL with scully when she rolls up with this random dude under arrest. she is also very mad at him!!! she does not need his permission to do her job!!! but he says he has something to show her.Â
the murderer who killed that kid over the shoes claims that fellig did it. and scully accuses RITTER of making the STORY UP, OHHHH!!!
âfellig is a murderer. whether or not he did this specific one, i donât care-â WELL, YOU SHOULD???
omfg⌠is this some sort of moral test for scully? is kersh torturing her like this is the good place? he says he knows the judge and heâll get the warrant
OHHHH!!! âyou know, kersh warned me about you.â âuh, he did?â âyeah, you and your partner. god knows his reputation precedes him, so i guess i should have seen this coming. you muck up my case, and kersh will hear about it. are we clear, dana?â âscully.â

phone call time!! itâs mulder!!! she admits that it is an x file, which prompts him to sound worried. âwhat happened?â
mulder says that fellig is 149! under the name henry strand, someone applied for a press license way back in the day, and henryâs prints match felligâs!! and before henry, there is an L.H. rice who was born in 1849 and has the same fingerprints!!
how did he track the fingerprints down⌠get mulder out of this office and into a research lab, maybe!
âiâm not good at math, but i figure thatâs a whole lot of candles on the cakeâ
! MULDER LORE REVEAL ! he doesnât think heâs good at math!!!
man, i havenât gotten to do a lore reveal text format like that in a while. that felt nice.
scully finds fellig's age hard to believe, but mulder says she should find him before he vanishes again. she turns up at his apartment and looks so scary, LMAO.Â
but she warns him that he will be arrested in 2 hours and charged with murder. which makes her seem to be the the good guy here, and not as scary as her angry face would suggest.
fellig says he just takes the pictures, but she hits him with âwhat you showed me was a contemptible lack of compassion for another human being. you showed me that you profit off of peopleâs deathsâ <- OHHHH, GET HIM!! that strong moral code kicks in again!
ânow, why shouldnât you go to prison?â <- oooo, sheâs playing hardball. but he says theyâre lucky!!! and he doesnât take them, âheâ does. girl, who the hell is "he"?
fellig must be jealous that these other people can dieâŚÂ
scully follows him into his darkroom. i feel such fondness for her as she moves the curtain.Â
he points to someone in the photograph and says âheâs the one who takes themâ BUT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?!Â
itâs a glimpse of death itself. heâs trying to photograph death!!!
âmr. fellig, i know you know more about photography than i do, but this is just a lens flareâ âyouâre right, i do know more about photography than youâ <- LMAO, okay, that did make me laugh.
she asks him why take a picture of death, and he says he wants to look into his face so he can die. nothing will kill him. he's tried it all.
hey man, iâm unfortunately really distracted by the terrible feelings of tenderness that scully has sparked in me right at this very moment. yeah, idk. i donât really want to focus on this guy right now. itâs very sad, genuinely, but look at her face.Â
he says he doesnât want to be here, and he got left behind.Â
âyou know, i donât believe youâ âyes you do. thatâs why youâre hereâ <- OHHHH, he called her outâŚ. the cracks in her disbeliever facade keep growing⌠is it that she doesnât believe him, or that her greater commitment to needing to know the truth and therefore do the morally correct thing in handling this murder case brought her here?? can they be separated???
she flips through his photos, touching one of a young flapper. she asks how he knows when theyâll die, and he says he knows.
scully has to step outside. and she calls mulder, asking if louis brady (name on the flapper photo) was also one of fellig's names. he says no, but there is a big gap before 1939, so it could be.
but somehow, fellig disappeared!!! just kidding, heâs back. he wanted to get his film. i thought he vanished for a few seconds there.
mulder is in the FBI archives at 9:30 am. ahhh, i wish i could go there. and he finds felligâs photo!! it shows him wanted under the name louis brady for double murder!!!
mulder calls ritter when he learns of this news, because he cannot get ahold of her. he tells him about how fellig killed two patients and walked away!!! he tells him to find agent scully NOW. and ritter, of course, is shocked that this murder happened like 80 years ago, but whatever. you better go check on her, ritter.
meanwhile, scully is still with fellig. she asks âhow can you have too much life? thereâs too much to learn, to experienceâ and this hits hard because she, of course, was very recently dying.
(moaning in pain as i think about scully wanting to experience and learn everything there is this world has to offer.......)
he says you start to wonder what everyone else gets to know
OH, SHE ASKS ABOUT LOVE??? he wanted to look up his wife 40 years ago. and he couldnât remember her name.Â
(scully, you damn romantic...)

but, is he actually going to try and kill herâŚ..?

she wants to know how to prove his thing- that he can live forever, and that he can sense when people are going to die before they do. fellig says someone took his place. he had yellow fever. and heâs getting his camera aroundâŚ
he saw death back when he was sick. and he saw him dancing around the room, taking people. but death didnât take him.Â
a nurse sat with him, and when death came, he looked away. she looked at him instead. and the fever broke, and she was the one that died.Â
he tells her sheâs very lucky. she gets in his face and insists she is NOT going to die. she tells him to turn it off. he took her phone!!!
he says death is coming and he needs to make her peaceâŚ.Â
but itâs ritter!!!! he fires his gun at fellig!!!
SHE COLLAPSES???? WHY IS SHE BLEEDING??????? there is blood coming from her throat???? did ritter miss and shoot her instead???
fellig tries to take a photo of her with his other camera, and asks if she sees "him". he says donât look, close your eyes. and he holds her hand in his. AND HE LOOKS INTO DEATH INSTEAD. and he gasps softlyâŚ. oh my godâŚ. he finally dies.
scully is in bed in the hospital a week later. mulder is waiting, telling ritter heâs a lucky man. which is better than i expected.
OH, he grabs her hand. and he sits on her bed. and he smiles, saying her doctor says she is making an amazing recovery. but she seems so sad, and in so much pain
he says âdeath only looks for you once you seek its oppositeâ <- OHHHH my godâŚ
and we fade to black.
so i rewatched the scene where scully gets hurt because at first i couldn't tell what was happening, and this DUMBASS ritter shot fellig, and the bullet went STRAIGHT THROUGH HIM and INTO SCULLY???? like. what the HELL WAS HE THINKING????
holy fuck, if i were mulder i would have done a lot more than tell him he was a lucky guy. look at her enduring ritter's presence while sheâs in her hospital bed and he was such an awful person the whole time they worked together. i would have told him to fuck off and let me recover from the bullet YOU put in me in peace.
and mulder grabbing her hand. and the flowers in her room. and his smile at her news. but sheâs so sad. people donât live forever.Â
she wants to live, and she wants to have a life, and holy HELL need to lay down.
oh my god⌠this episode was super dark. and usually i donât really like the dark ones. but it has scully, so i liked it better. because we got to contemplate her worldview.Â
and she wants to LIVE. she wants a LIFE. she wants LOVE. the way she got in felligâs face and REFUSED to let him take her picture⌠the way she tried to understand how he could be jealous of death, because she always wants to understand and to learn and empathize⌠the way she helped fellig, and fellig helped her by telling her to look away from death, so he could look instead⌠oh my god.
we need to do something about this ritter guy. hopefully, he will simply be fired. you canât go around shooting your own agents. OH! and the way he didnât care about justice at all- how he got the warrant because he knew the judge, and he told scully that if she got in his way heâd go to kersh⌠and how she told him her name is SCULLY and this conversation is OVERâŚ

and mulder helping over the phone; mulder using her sleuthing skills to find out that fellig WAS a murderer and she WAS in danger, and he called ritter immediately and said you had BEST find her. and i can only imagine how he went to bed that night thinking of all the ways he wanted to kill ritter. how he sat by his phone for her. bouncing his basketball until the hospital sent him word of her recovery.Â
now, iâm still puzzled as to why he has access to kershâs files. perhaps this is some sort of clue. but to what? i cannot say.
i just love scully SO MUCH. she saw that the woman on the side of the road was going to die, and she stepped right in and did everything she could, even if it was ultimately doomed. she couldnât sit back. and she wants a life. sheâs in love and she wants a life and she wants a house and a dog. and to save people. and to do work that is satisfying. and all of these things she has been denied.
(screams into my hands)
sheâs been slowly starting to believe- maybe not in the traditional sense, but in the sense that she recognizes something she cannot understand is afoot, and she finds herself curious about how and why. i found it very interesting that fellig called her out for this and gibson did as well. and we know that gibson can read minds, so we know it to be true. i donât think âbelievesâ in the same use of the word that mulder does, but she is finding it harder to compartmentalize, maybe. and can you blame her? i mean, she is miss "there HAS to be a scientific explanation for this". belief not in the supernatural sense, but in the sense that there is so much more to learn and understand and experience. be it love and life or the guy who lives forever and can somehow sense death. maybe the spiritual and the scientific aren't that separate.
god. this really was a scully episode, and i am so grateful. i deserved this. even though it wasnât one where she laughs and enjoys the gift of being alive, we still got to dive into her thoughts and emotional state. AND we got bonus angsty mulder- angst about them being separated, and angst about nearly losing her. is this not the ultimate kind of mulder angst?Â
i shall go to bed a bit sad this evening, but content.Â
as i edit my notes to make them readable the day after watching this, there is still so much on my mind. in the sense that i want to write a thinkpiece on what this means for scully's character. maybe this will be a turning point, when she once again confronts her own mortality. how easily death can come. maybe she'll tell him how she feels because she realizes that now is all she has. maybe she'll confront kersh and tell him to get them off of their nonsense assignment so she can go back to saving people. maybe she'll think about all of the times she felt so certain that she was going to die in the past and once again try and make a meaning for why she didn't.
i am also thinking about how sad mulder was when kersh separated them and then how horrible he must have felt when he heard that she was SHOT in his absence. and there was nothing that he could do for a week while he could only wait to hear if she was okay. and then he drove up there as soon as he could. and he KNEW that it was ritter's fault she was lying in that bed fighting for her life, but he somehow managed to say only how lucky he was instead of slamming his head through the drywall. and how he held her hand, smiling, so happy to see her, taking his spot on her bed, thinking of how he loves her and how many times her has nearly lost her. and her thinking the same thing. and neither of them saying anything. just touching.
the feelings i am experiencing are large and difficult to put into words, which is frustrating because, like AUGH! (gestures wildly) do you get what i mean?! do you SEE what i am saying?!?! (grabs your shoulders and shakes them vigorously)
please share your thoughts with me, especially if you are a scully girl like myself. to me, this felt sort of like scully's version of paper hearts, in a way. at least, i see some parallels. even if i cannot elaborate at this time because my brain is flopping.

some questions/thoughts i have about pvpciv right now. because i need to put them somewhere in the world. (spoilers ahead. lol)

i know this episode was literally just grabbing us by our faces and yelling BUCK IS CHRISTOPHER'S DAD directly into our ears but they did it in some truly insane ways. like obviously the scenes on their own are enough and yet 911 goes that one step further and uses some unhinged scene cuts once again. because the choice to go from mom's best friend (denny) and dad's best friend (christopher) one after the other highlights just how big the difference is between uncle chimney and co-parent buck. its just: denny hears stuff about chimney from his moms, and chimney sits outside with denny to avoid hen's wrath, and they talk about fathers or rather they talk around fathers, they're honest but only on the surface level. meanwhile christopher is included in buck and eddie's conversation about buck's new found superpower, buck backs eddie up when chris tries to get out of his homework, buck bakes cookies for christopher's class and gets him to eat a balanced meal before he starts stealing baked goods. yet again a very heavy handed way of pointing out to us that buck quite literally stepped inside with eddie and chris.

it sucks that shitty fans have made it impossible to celebrate canon queer relationships that they don't like and seem to have an influence on which ones get attention on social media. it sucks that it seems like no matter how much tim says he ignores fandom, it stills get to him. it sucks that oliver refuses to stand up for his costars when they're being harassed. it sucks that antis feel like they have the power to ruin good things for other people because they don't gain anything from it. it sucks that we all already knew this would happen because this show never changes no matter what network it's on.

I dont think at this point i can even start on classic literature if i tried, like, i have absolutely zero patience for stories that take their goddamn time "building up" to things. I forgot to post anything about this, but I did the scene where I had to read some of my writing to the dnd party (twice!) and they were SO nice about it. I couldn't stop smiling. (which was kind of a weird disconnect since the scenes were super dark, lmao.) But augh, I'm so glad they were nice to meeee. My poor boy Rook is Going Through It right now, and things are about to get worse.
Next session we also might get to do our first version of ship combat using the rules I made which is kind of wild. I'm very nervous, but I feel like after this last session and sharing stuff I wrote with them (out loud!!!) I can handle it. Probably.

I can't stop thinking about the news out of Palestine. Israel is sieging al Shifa hospital. Videos of people's limbs being severed off are haunting (graphic video tw). The hospital has ran out of fuel and 39 babies in incubators are fending for their lives by themselves, because Israel has stationed snipers around the hospital and is shooting all medical crew that walks into their sight.
First, the narrative was Israel would never bomb hospitals. Now, the hospitals are Hamas bases. Then, we respect journalists. Now, we have a fucking kill list of journalists because they are Hamas collaborators. First, we are not letting fuel in until the hostages are released. Now, we are not accepting the hostages back because that would stop our ground invasion and let Hamas win. And I could go on about every single lie they're making up. If you look up "Hamas rape" on google, the first link leads to Times of Israel saying Israel has found no forensic evidence of sexual violence, and only one eyewitness testimony out of 3.5k people attending the rave. If you Google "Hamas beheaded babies" the top links say they have no evidence for the claim besides word of mouth from extremist soldiers. Israeli extremists think about the ugliest goriest scene they can make out in their sick heads, tell that to a international journalist and they run away with it like it's gospel.
And children are being killed in the name of these lies. Thousands are being displaced in images that remind me of the pictures of Tantura 75 years ago, with their hands up so the tanks don't shoot them. Amputees are leaving the hospitals in wheelchairs hours after their surgeries because they are being shot at. Elders who survived the Nakba on 48 are having to walk towards Southern Gaza on foot (imagine walking from one end of your city to the other on foot), displaced again. People are cheering for the haunting images of white phosphorus bombs being dropped over Gaza. Gazan workers who were arrested in the West Bank are being thrust back into the bombings wearing numbered labels.
This is not normal. We are seeing the early stages of the settler colonial genocide of an indigenous population. Native leaders who have visited Gaza say its refugee camps look eerily like reservations. We can stop this. For the first time we are able to see wide scale accounts from the hands of the people suffering the genocide, and Israel is so scared of it they have cut all communications in Gaza.
This is our litmus test. I think we have never seen more clearly, with Palestine, Armenia, Congo and Sudan how colonialism has made our world a rotten place to live in.
The South African apartheid collapsed due to boycotts. We have to do everything in our power to stop Israel's hegemony. Even talking to a group of friends about Palestine changes the status quo. There's no world where we can live peacefully if Israel accomplishes their goals.
Keep yourself updated and share Palestinian voices. Muna El-Kurd said every tweet is like a treasure to them, because their voices are repressed on social media and even on this very app. Make it your action item to share something about the Palestinian plight everyday. Here are some resources:

You can participate in boycotts wherever you are in the world, through BDS guidelines. Don't be overwhelmed by gigantic boycott lists. BDS explicitly targets only a few brands which have bigger impact. You can stop consuming from as many brands as you want, though, and by all means feel free to give a 1 star review to McDonalds, Papa John, Pizza Hut, Burger King and Starbucks. Right now, they are focusing on boycotting the following:
Carrefour, HP, Puma, Sabra, Sodastream, Ahava cosmetics, Israeli fruits and vegetables
Push for a cultural boycott - pressure your favorite artist to speak out on Palestine and cancel any upcoming performances on occupied territory (Lorde cancelled her gig in Israel because of this. It works.)
If you can, participate in direct action or donate.
Palestine Action works to shut down Israeli weapons factories in the UK and USA, and have successfully shut down one of their firms in London.Some of the activists are going on trial and are calling for mobilizing on court.
Palestinian Youth Movement is organizing direct actions to stop the shipping of wars to Israel. Follow them.
Educate yourself. Read into Palestinian history and the occupation. You can't common sense people out of decades of propaganda. If your arguments crumble when a zionist brings up the "disengagement of Gaza", you have to learn more.
Read Decolonize Palestine. They have 15 minute reads that concisely explain the occupation (and its colonial roots) and debunk popular myths, including pinkwashing.
Read on Palestine. Here's an amazing masterpost.
Verso Book Club is giving out free books on Palestine (I personally downloaded Ten Myths about Israel by Ilan Pappe. If you still believe in the two states solution, this book by an Israeli professor debunks it).
Call your representatives. The Labour Party in the UK had an emergency meeting after several councilors threatened to resign if they didn't condemn Israeli war crimes. Calling to show your complaints works, even more if you live in a country that funds genocide.

Rundown of the more interesting parts from the Necrits live stream with Christian Linke (Creative Director and Co-Creator of Arcane) :
There was a longer version of the Caitvi sex scene but they got bonked by the ratings people, and because it would have raised Leagues rating to mature, it got brought down to what we got.
The entire Caitvi sex scene was directed and animated by Fortiche with zero input by Riot. Christian says, "That was French people being French."
Riot making Arcane canon didn't change where they were taking characters or the story, it just made them more aware of how it would affect other Riot projects.
Christian refused to confirm exactly when the events of Arcane take place in the existing timeline.
The Arcane doesn't originate from Hextech. It is just one - in universe - interpretation of magic.
Christian doesn't view Viktor and Jayce's love as romantic, and that romance wasn't the intention when writing their relationship. However, by the way he talks, it doesn't seem he's against people shipping them romantically - just as a creative team, they were more interested in exploring a close, complex male friendship / brotherhood.
The 250-million dollar show budget number is not accurate as marketing is included in that fund. Fortiche's goal from the beginning was to bring the level of animation found in feature animated films to serialised content. While the show was very expensive for an animated series, it was way cheaper than an animated feature film because they try and work efficiently. As an example, Christian says how often in Hollywood, it's not uncommon for sometimes 40-50% of what is animated to end up on the cutting room floor while with Fortiche they try and keep it around 5%
Ekko's hair was changed from a mohawk to dreads because the artist who worked on him told them that black hair doesn't work like that (in reference to the mohwak), and here's how it would actually work.
Legends of Runterra affected Arcane in terms of giving the team inspiration for how the everyday street life is for people in the regions.
Caitlyn's LOR Tactical design (2021) and Warwicks VGU Voicelines (2017) were made to reflect what was going to happen in Arcane - production of Arcane just took a long amount of time.
They've said from the beginning that the only person who could ever defeat Viktor at the height of his power was Viktor himself. His story is about the glorious evolution, the pursuit of that, and what it actually means to remove these human elements until there is nothing left.
All projects Riot is working on - whether the MMO, Games, Written or Animated projects - are in talks with one another at all times.
Christian comments on how very few games have remain in service as long as League has, and because of its ever growing and evolving story, it's hard to bring everything together cohesively since everything was made at different times, in different era's, by a multitude of different people. So, while many things may be very cool creatively, it makes it impossible to successfully bring it all together more often than not. So for new projects, they are more focused on making something good and successful with the team and talent they have, even if it retcons or replaces content made in the past.
Christian pitched singing Heimerdinger.
Arcane's scripts for S2 were locked in before S1 was released, so they were not impacted by fandoms or online reactions. Christian thinks maybe some animation choices were influenced by things the animators saw online, but not the story.
When watching the premier of the final arcane episodes in LA - the entire 4000 seat theatre cheered when Maddie died.
The butterfly motif shared between Jayce and Viktor specifically was used to represent transformation.
Christian talked about how they don't think about really whether people will like something or not, but whether it's the right consequence for the story (this is in discussion to Caitlyn losing an eye). What makes a character likeable to an audience in his eyes is their decisions in the story; the choices that they make.
Continuing on from this, he comments on how the choices Caitlyn makes now are so different now compared to the beginning of the show. She is now willing to take risks and sacrifice parts of herself for people, for Piltover and for what is right.
When asked about Caitlyn's signature hat, Christian says that the team saw it as somthing that didn't really fit this version of Caitlyn they were writing and the person she becomes and that's why it was never incorporated into her designs.
Back in the beginning, when they were first working on Arcane, Christian would constantly going back to Jinx and Vi's original design artists & Riot August who was their champion designer to make sure they weren't messing anything up with these characters.
Christian goes on to tell an anecdote of when Paul 'Zeronis' Kwon was drawing the first concepts for Vi. This was back when Christian was in music. She didn't have a name at the time, but when Christian looked over Paul's shoulder at the art, he comments "she kinda looks like a Violet to me." They never spoke about it, but months later, when she became a serious character concept internally, she was gifted the name Vi. To this day, Christian doesn't know if his comment resulted in her name or if it was just a coincidence, but Violet became stuck in Christian's brain as Vi's true name. Riot August (who was in chat) then confirms that her name came from her tattoo, which came from one of her key design elements, being that she had the number 6 on her face. So, just a happy coincidence.
Talking about the tattoo. The tattoo was shrunken in size so, from a distance, it would look more like a beauty mark and the brain can more easily disregard it. One of the many things that they had to think about when translating the designs over as, is animation, you would be looking at a characters face a lot more than you do in league where the camera is situated top down.
As they were wrapping up the stream, Christian talks about how there always needs to be a bit of space between what content creators / content consumers do (pointing at Necrit) and what Riot does. He thinks it's good that there is space for criticism and a critical view of the things Riot does. In order to succeed, he believes they need to listen to their audience but also that they need to have their own vision, take risks, and be bold. It's a delicate balance in his eyes, and projects tend to fail when these two sides are too in cahoots.
He iterates that they are not trying to shove anything down anyone's throats. They are just trying to find what makes these characters cool, tell their stories, and be true to the regions they come from. With taking the characters from League to Arcane, it was important that they translate these stories and characters so they can hold up with the best storytelling in the world.
This circles back to the earlier point about retconning things and replacing past stories and content. He comments on how some characters are very outdated or too archetypal, but they still have an essence that people love about them.
Arcane was something Christian worked on for 9 years, and he was getting clearly emotional near the end. He also adds they're just getting started and he wants to make sure they do a good job with this IP and the characters we really love.
To those who are not happy with certain decisions, he's sorry they didn't hit what you personally wanted, but there is simply no way they can please everybody. While they are trying to make as many of the Riot / Arcane audience happy, they as the creators and artists need to follow their own compass, be the shepherds of this IP; that being creative is hard. They will keep doing that even if they sometimes have to ruffle some feathers.
He closes the stream by confirming that they are investing quite a bit in Noxas, Ionia, and Demacia for the next regions they explore.

synopsis: having stolen the hearts of fans with your teamwork and marraige, you and katsuki are called in for a joint interview.

the magazine spread featuring you and katsuki as top pro heroes has the fanbase buzzing for weeks.
power couples arenât uncommon, but the combination of your joint success and explosive chemistryâboth literally and figurativelyâmakes you stand out.
when you both get asked to sit down for a joint interview, itâs hard to say no, especially when the public canât seem to get enough of the dynamic between you and your husband.
sitting side by side on a plush sofa in the brightly lit studio, katsuki bristles with impatience, his jaw clenched as the interviewer introduces the segment.
itâs a familiar sceneâhis fiery personality on display for everyone to seeâbut you can feel the underlying tension, the way his body leans subtly closer to yours for grounding.
âso, the two of you are recognized as two of the top heroes of the year, and fans are really curious to know how you manage your lives as heroes and as a married couple,â the interviewer begins with a polite smile, clearly trying to ease into the conversation.
before you can respond, katsukiâs sharp voice cuts through the air.
âwhat the hell kinda question is that?â he snaps, eyes narrowing as he crosses his arms. âwe do our damn jobs, and we go home. simple as that.â
you stifle a laugh, used to his bluntness by now. gently placing a hand on his arm, you intervene.
âwhat he means,â you say, casting a glance at katsuki that makes him grumble, âis that itâs about finding a rhythm. we both understand each otherâs work, so we donât get in each otherâs way.â
katsuki grunts, his fiery gaze fixed on the interviewer. âshe knows how to handle herself; doesnât need me micromanaging her every move.â
despite his words, his hand finds its way to your lower back, fingers pressing into the fabric of your suit.
his touch is subtle, a quiet reassurance in the midst of his usual tough demeanor, but you know it means heâs keeping you close, watching out for you in his own way.
the interviewer picks up on the moment, nodding enthusiastically.
âit sounds like you both have a lot of trust in each other. how do you support one another with the high demands of your careers?â
katsuki clicks his tongue, clearly irritated. âsupport? weâre pros. we know what weâre doinâ out there.â
but just as youâre about to add something, he turns his head slightly to you, his voice dropping just enough for you to hear the change in tone.
âthat doesnât mean I wonât blow the ass off anyone who even thinks about messinâ with her,â he mutters.
you chuckle softly, nudging him with your elbow. âand here I thought I didnât need you hovering around.â
âshut up,â he grumbles, but thereâs no real bite in his tone.
his hand stays on your back, thumb brushing up and down in a way only you notice. âjust âcause youâre strong doesnât mean Iâm not gonna make sure youâre alright.â
the interviewer, sensing an opportunity, leans in. âmister dynamight, you seem pretty protective of your wife. would you say thatâs how you balance work and home life?â
katsukiâs eyes flash, his scowl deepening. âof course, Iâm protective. you think Iâd let her get caught up in any shit without me there to take care of it?â
his voice is sharp, but the way his arm shifts slightly to pull you closer is anything but harsh. âwe donât even need to talk about this crap.â
you smile to yourself, knowing this is as close to an open display of affection as katsuki will get in public.
his explosive personality never wavers, but there are cracks in his tough exterior that only you can seeâmoments where his concern for you bleeds through.
when the interviewer pushes on, asking about how your relationship works in the field, katsuki scoffs again.
âare you gonna keep asking this?â he snaps, before glancing at you, his hand tightening just slightly at your waist.
he sighs, trying to compose himself. âwe work together âcause weâre a team, a hella good one at that.â
his little proud smirk makes your heart flutter. you decide to tease him a little. âoh, so youâre saying you canât live without me on the battlefield, huh?â
his glare is immediate, his cheeks flushing with embarrassment. âdonât twist my words! I justââ
he cuts himself off, grumbling under his breath.
âyouâre the one who keeps me in check, alright? so yeah, maybe i do rely on you. youâre my wife, and I am your husband. thatâs natural! donât make a big deal out of it.â
your husband huffs and looks away, which makes you giggle.
meanwhile, the interviewer chuckles nervously, clearly amused by the exchange. âit seems like you two have a really solid partnership.â
katsuki rolls his eyes. âdamn right we do. weâve got each otherâs backs. thatâs how itâs always been, and thatâs how itâs gonna stay.â
as the interview wraps up, you feel katsukiâs hand slip from your waist, but his presence lingers, as solid and steady as ever.
once youâre off-camera and away from the prying eyes of the public, katsuki turns to you, his expression softening in that rare way that only you ever get to see.
âletâs get outta here,â he mutters, running a hand through his hair. âthis interview crapâs a waste of time.â
you laugh, slipping your hand into his. âlet's hope they don't cut you out like they did in highschool.â
âshut the hell up.â but despite his grumbling, he doesnât let go of your hand, his grip tightening just slightly as you walk together out of the studio.
