Catnip, Kleptos, and Chaos Nephews
aka: Danny and Selina Go ‘Shopping,’ Vlad Contemplates Early Retirement
It was supposed to be a quiet evening. Bruce had just finished cleaning up after Killer Croc tried to take a swim in the Batcave’s underground river. Jason was pretending not to be feeding said crocodile marshmallows. Damian was finally asleep. Vlad had finally stopped twitching.
And then the manor security pinged. Selina Kyle had entered the building.
“She let herself in?” Vlad asked, panic creeping up his spine.
“She has a key,” Bruce said, like that was normal.
In the Foyer
Selina swept in like a thunderstorm wearing a designer coat and nine lives of attitude. Danny peeked around the corner with a cookie in hand, blinked, and whispered, “Whoa, you’re pretty.”
Selina paused, blinked, and slowly turned her full attention to the glowing teenager in pajama pants and an oversized “I ♥️ Goth Dad hoodie.
“…Bruce,” she called out. “When were you going to tell me you adopted the cutest haunted Muppet in the multiverse?”
Danny smiled, then phased through the banister to greet her properly.
Selina raised a brow. “Oh. You’re that kind of weird. I like it.”
Fifteen Minutes Later
Bruce came downstairs to find Danny and Selina curled up on the couch, looking through jewel heist magazines.
“You know,” Selina said, sipping tea, “if you’re going to ghost into vaults, you need a better eye for sparkle. See this? That’s a decoy ruby. Always check for weight.”
Danny nodded like he was in school. “Ohhh. So you taste test them?”
Selina: “Only if they’re cursed. Or chocolate.”
Bruce: “What is happening.”
Danny: “Auntie Selina’s teaching me jewel ethics.”
Selina: “You don’t steal from orphans, old ladies, or drag queens. Everyone else is fair game.”
Bruce: “Selina.”
Danny: “She said I have ‘klepto potential with a conscience.’ Is that good?”
Vlad—who had just entered—froze mid-step like he’d walked into a live wire.
“You—NO. You do not get to take the ghost child on a crime internship!”
Selina: “I’m just saying if he happens to pass through a high-security vault and happens to see an unguarded emerald—”
“SE-LI-NA!”
She winked. Danny grinned. Bruce gave up and left the room.
The Shopping Trip (aka “Field Study”)
Selina took Danny out in the evening with Bruce’s very reluctant permission and a tracker.
They visited:
A high-end gallery (“Just browsing,” she said. Danny later ‘accidentally’ phased the security guard into a closet so Selina could critique the fake Fabergé eggs.)
A black market fence with a secret greenhouse out back (“For the vibes,” Danny claimed. He gifted the fence a ghost orchid. The man cried.)
A hidden thrift shop with literal cursed rings (Danny picked one up, sneezed, and the ring de-cursed itself. Selina clapped.)
They returned three hours later, with:
One vintage cat brooch that now purrs
A cursed diamond that is now a mildly annoyed diamond
Danny wearing eyeliner and a leather jacket
Back at the Manor
Jason: “You gave the haunted child a fashion upgrade. I respect it.”
Damian: “That’s my eyeliner.”
Cass: thumbs up
Vlad: “You. Let. Selina. Kyle. Take. Him. Shopping.”
Bruce: “He came back with everything accounted for and an enchanted purse that bites pickpockets. That’s more than most of us can say.”
Selina ruffled Danny’s hair. “He’s got potential. Chaos with a heart of gold. Reminds me of me at that age. But cuter.”
Danny: “She said if I ever want to become a cat burglar, I already have the purr-sonality.”
Bruce sighed so hard it activated the Batcomputer’s wind sensor.
Vlad, deadpan: “I’m going to scream.”
Danny patted his arm gently. “Auntie Selina says I’m the ghost that haunts the wealthy. Isn’t that nice?”
Vlad screamed.

As promised, the next in my series, historically inspired Cassandra! She was a lot of fun but also a lot of agony to design
Further explanations under the cut!
Once again, these are all roughly 1780s, except for the armour and her moonstone outfit, for different reasons
Her handmaiden dress is a robe a l'anglaise, although much simpler than Rapunzel's season 1 dress. The gold colour still denotes her standing, as the Captain of the guard's daughter, and as one of the higher-ranking servants. I would have put an apron on her as well, but she was a lady in waiting, not a maid. She also has a cap on, as women in the period pretty much always wore a hat or a cap of some sort
Keeping Cass' short hair felt integral to the character, although neither women nor men kept their hair long. To split the difference, I have her hair in the distinctive rolls at the side of the head, which come down in her transformation. And for imagery reasons, it then stays down
Her casual/season 1 outfit is a mixture of the typical man's outfit of the period, but with a feminine redingote instead of a typical coat worn by men. While they weren't usually this short, I did find an example of one that was. I wanted to create a unique shape for all her outfits, and figured this best mimicked the tunic look. The gloves are based off gloves soldiers might wear at the time, and would likely be leather
By the 1780s, and even by the century in general, armour was absolutely just not in style. Really, Tangled best fits a medieval look, maybe the 1500s, but 1780 is the year that comes up, and I but follow orders. Cass' armour is based off two specific images of a Prussion general in the early part of the century. Since she finds it on their journey, it can be a little archaic. The gloves are once again likely just simple leather
Due to the simplicity of the moonstone armour, it doesn't follow any historical clothing. Mostly the idea is that it grew over her armour, which is why it's trying to have a similar silhouette - also why I had it jut out at the hips a bit.
Her end outfit is literally just a normal men's outfit for the time, although with a male redingote. The gloves are fencing gloves, and the different shapes are taken from an actual example. Instead of a necklace, she wears a cravat, and the ribbon from her handmaiden cap is tied around her arm
The normal sword she carries is a sidesword, and the rock sword is a greatsword. Due to the large array of weaponry she has, it's reasonable to expect she knows how to use both
I didn't draw the extra dagger she has, although she still has it on her somewhere at all times, just hidden away

Anyway here's my current Batfam nail polish tier list:
Kate: wine red, sharp/long except for the index and major which a clipped short
Bruce: transparent top coat
Babs: very chipped fluorescent oracle green. She scratches bits of it off when she's stress-focused.
Dick: lavender mauve
Helena: purple with white crosses
Cass: black with yellow little bats. Sometimes she'll do black with a fluorescent green line
Steph: deep black. She has a couple of rhinestones stuck on some of them she uses like stim toys by rubbing against the rhinestones to self-soothe. Often seen detaching her rhinestones in unfortunate places.
Harper Row: alternates electric blue and mauve, with a metallic silver top coat
Tim: black
Jason: dark red but it's purposefully messy on the skin around the nail and the top of fingertips so they look bloody (see Jason digging out of his coffin for reference)
Duke: at least four different glittery golds that were definitely meant to be used as top coat, it's messy but the cool thing about messy glitter top coat is that it doesn't look like a mess it just looks like you have glittery fingertips
Damian: super clean white with cool prints, designs depending on how he's feeling, often flower prints, most often in gold accents but the prints can also be other colours
Also all of those are designed to change colours in reaction to drugs and other substances btw. Mostly the reason I wanted them to wear it is because I love nail polish, but also I can definitely see them all wearing it for investigation purposes. At least maybe Dick will finally stop putting stuff in his mouth.

Sims In Bloom: Bella Goth's (Actually Cozy!) Winterfest Celebrations - And a New Ring 💍
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bella Goth loved the holiday season. Even when she was unhappily married to Mortimer for years, she could always get into the Winterfest spirit. She'd always been fascinated by Father Clement, who could seemingly be everywhere at once every Winterfest Night. If families celebrated, he would come. You might even say the inexplicable magic of Father Clement was her gateway to a lifetime studying occults and paranormality.
Now, of course, she was dating the Grim Reaper himself, and to mark the season she prepared a plate of Hallacas - a traditional holiday dish passed down from her Selvadoradian grandmother, Enriqueta, at the request of her beloved sons.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alexander was grown and had started a family of his own, and Dexter would graduate high school before she knew it (I don't think I've shown a picture of him since he was a toddler, so there he is in the green jacket, looking pretty much nothing like Mortimer). Bella cherished their excitement over the savoury dish - a mainstay at Goth family Winterfests year after year. They knew the best Hallacas in the world were the ones their mother made!
Once Alex and Lydia lit the menorah to introduce their son, Jagger, to another part of his heritage, most of the Goths went to bed. The cats, Spatula and Victory, stayed awake sniffing around the Hallacas, while Bella played and sang a tune on the piano.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She was in a good mood, waiting for her beloved Grim to return from his latest reaping. They didn't get to see one another enough, but they more than made up for time apart each time they came together. "My love," she said warmly. "I adore you. Come in from the cold."
Grim couldn't feel temperatures, exactly, but his entire being buzzed with a fire he hadn't felt for millennia whenever he spent time with Bella. But one thing in particular had always bothered him - her insistence upon wearing the oversized engagement ring from her ex-husband, Mortimer, as a fashion statement.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He'd grown tired of looking at it, quite frankly. "I have a gift for you," he said. She lifted the lid on the medium-sized box with excitement, gasping when she spotted the velvet ring box inside.
"You didn't!"
"I didn't. I asked @deardiaryts4 to design a custom ring just for you. A new fashion statement. I know how much you love her work, and I hope you like it. She did an incredible job, and considering how close it was to Winterfest when I asked her to design it, she pulled it together in no time."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The stunning bauble glistened under the lights of the Winterfest tree at their backs - a massive black diamond set on a white gold band dotted with dozens of smaller black diamonds. "It's incredible, Grimmie, I love it!"
The ring fit Bella like a glove, but they had to cut their cozy celebration short. "Sorry, duty calls," said Grim, before disappearing outside in a cloud of black smoke.
Tumblr media
Bella went to bed satisfied though Grim couldn't stay by her side, and she awoke to the excited murmur of Winterfest morning streaming up the stairs.
Soon after breakfast, her daughter Cassandra arrived with her husband, River, and their sons.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bella made spiced hot cocoa to greet their arrival - another common treat at Goth family holidays - and she pulled out a retro game console Cass and Alex used to play with when they were children, introducing her grandson Michael to the simple, colourful joy of earlier, more pixellated video games.
(I see you plumbob. I've been so good. But the event rewards task box was in the way!)
She even managed to wrangle all nine of them for a family portrait by the tree, and then the family put on some Winter Holiday music to dance off some of their festive energy.
Tumblr media
clockwise from top: Dexter Goth, Alexander Goth, Jagger Goth, Lydia (Kim-Lewis) Goth, Cassandra (Goth) Nesbitt, Bella Goth holding Samuel Nesbitt, River Nesbitt, Michael Nesbitt
Tumblr media
(Jagger also needed a diaper change, so dance party done.)
These moments with her family, surrounded by the love of her children and grandsons, meant everything to Bella.
But Grim, and the gorgeous ring she wore as a symbol of their love, meant something, too. As she grooved with her family by the fire and spent time with her beloved crow, Obsidian, this cozy celebration reminded Bella she was one of the luckiest women in the world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cozy Celebrations posts with Hazel & Nicola: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Nicola Enters Dating Deanna
NOTE: I didn't give this installment a part number because it's not technically canon but IS canon, if that makes sense. The ring is real and the portraits are going on the wall, but Michael, Samuel, and Jagger are all older than they were during in-game Winterfest (and aging them back down meant trying to pose infants through a couch and I honestly couldn't be bothered!) But I allude to the idea that the holidays come around every year, even though it's actually closer to every 15 years of actual game time. A sim year is 8 days, but the calendar year is 112 days because I like to fit in as many holidays as I can. So last year Cassandra, River, Michael, and Samuel were with the Nesbitts, but "this year" they rotated to the Goths, because I absolutely needed a family photo with them in it.
I know the Hazel/Nic play on Cozy Celebrations turned out to be the complete opposite, so this is like a palate cleanser, finishing the last two days of the event tasks with another side family in this legacy, instead. Not everyone's out here having a bad time!
WCIF Bella's ring? You can't, I'm sorry! This post came about because I got an exclusive and it's gorgeous, but @deardiaryts4-rb posted about the white diamond version here, and let this be my endorsement that it's stunning! If she puts either swatch up for public download I highly recommend this ring for any of your luxe sims! Thank you Zen!!
WCIF Portrait Poses? I used 9 of 19 poses from @somneasims Our Legacy posepack, and with the exception of River giving jazz hands where that would be behind another sim's back and a missing infant on Michael's lap, it's a perfect fit! And these are so minor, like it's absolutely acceptable to give jazz hands or look like you're fidgeting in a family photo. Also, Dexter should be carrying an infant, but River's hair disguises his empty hands. Thank you for sharing this, I love the results!
(And yes I considered adding Mortimer and Karl since he and Bella are on such good terms, but in the end I decided they went on a vacation because this shot is wonderful.)
And I've used the same acha-sims' Lovers 2 pose for Grimbella before, but it's so perfect and really puts the ring front and centre, which this post deserved!

do you think you would ever do a wingfic? cause i LOVE your writing style and your shifter fics have lead me to believe that you would be super good at it :]
like brucie would obviously have batwings cause ✨drama✨ and maybe for the rest of the fam they have wings that match their hair colors and personalities? if that makes sense 🫠 and maybe the reader has just super duper soft wings :}
if you ever decide to do something wingfic esq. just know that i would be the first to read :3
with love - @gothammybeloved
Rising from the dead with this one (I have twenty asks in my inbox)
Happy Holidays you mfs
Masterlist
Bruce
Def a bat. Causes him problems with the press having similar wings to Batman sometimes but there's a lot of other people with bat wings so it's generally a baseless accusation. This likely goes for the entire batfam because lots of people have similar bird wings. Ye
I'd think that he and Lucius Fox probably designed some kind of protection for bat wings (and then later of feather wings once he adopted Dick etc) because criminals would purposely or accidentally rip the membrane/break the bones of batfam wings.
Dick
Dick is a Blue Jay because;
A) blue does it need explanation
B) Blue Jays have elliptical wings which are shaped in a way that "allow birds to maneuver tightly in confined spaces and minimize drag for rapid ascent and descent". And it makes sense for Dick who is flexible to concerning degrees. So. Neat
Jason
We have two options here:
A) secretary bird bc they beat the shit out of snakes. I promise. Snakes = dirty criminals yk??? Also that bird looks like it reads Jane Austen
B) Andean Condor which is the largest bird of prey
because Jason is a brick shit house
Tim
Crow/Raven. Doesn't matter cause they're both smart and have been known to use things like tools and other stuff etc.
Also black would fit with the Red Robin suit I'd think so yeah 👍
Damian
Like father like son, so bat wings too. In the League I'd think they would treat the wings of the Al Ghul (I'd wanna say all have bat wings too? Cant see Ra's with bird wings) family as...
Idk but see the vision ok: painting the membrane with special paint that doesn't weigh them down, in gold intricate patterns. They'd have people do it for them but when moving to Gotham, Damian would probably keep doing it himself.
Steph
Red (or yellow) tailed black cockatoo. Cockatoos have a fun personality I think and the wings of the red tailed black cockatoo are black, fitting in with her suit, but also have a fun sprinkle of yellow colouring.
Idk what birds have purple wings I sorry
Cass
An owl with black wings (black banded owl, black barn owl etc.) because:
A) black . Black bat? Like?
B) owls are silent in flight which makes sense for Cass because she's very stealthy and quiet.
Duke
Keeping a trend of Australian birds I think he'd be a rainbow lorikeet. Lovable colourful birds that no one can find a reason to hate except for when there's fifty squawking next to your bedroom cough cough
Have mostly yellow wings. Bonus their chest feathers reflect in ultraviolet light to signal (! See what I did there) to other birds. Let's pretend their wings do that too
Alfred
Some kind of albatross. This man went from British special forces to a butler for billionaires in America. He has travelled. He has seen shit. He makes it look easy
Bonus most albatross species live up and over of 50 years which isn't the longest but still pretty cool.

Fantasy high headcanons let’s gooooo
Fhjy spoilers, long post so it goes ✨under the cut✨
Weekly sleepovers but that’s a given
Somewhere in one of the rooms in Mordred the Bad Kids all carved their names somewhere
Kristen and Fig have an entire corner of the Mordred living room designated as the ‘Secret Service Corner’
Riz is so good at shoplifting to the point that every time they go shopping Sklonda just keeps shooting glances at Riz’s hands to make sure he isn’t taking something or thinking about taking something
She has an entire pocket of her purse dedicated to distraction fidget toys because he can’t shoplifting if he doesn’t have anything to shoplift with
Fig perfected her screamo voice over the summer before freshman year (yknow the one where she was really pissed at her mom. Yeah that summer)
If Fabian ever needs advice on anything his go tos are Riz and Cathilda
Anytime one of the Bad Kids get a call in the middle of the night they just assume it’s Riz
Adaine is the only one allowed to ignore texts and calls and that’s only because she just uses the Message spell to respond to people
Kristen learned Morse code to talk to Fig in class
Fig does not know Morse code but by Cass she can pretend she does
After dropping out Fig will occasionally just shift into different fake students and drop by the others classes
The party always knows its her but nobody else ever does
The freshman thinks it’s a myth (legendary rockstar who dropped out of the school and is being hunted by the school just randomly shows up to classes she has never been enrolled in even when she did go there) but the seniors keep being like “no I swear to god I saw her at lunch earlier she’s gonna be in my class today I know it”
Agent Clark is always hunting her
Kristen Applebees has POTS and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome because I said so she my special girl
Gorgug has made each of the Bad Kids a playlist
And now for a list of things the party has banned Kristen “dex score of 3” Applebees from doing
Playing on Fabian’s DDR machine
Driving
Baking (cooking is fine though)
Skateboarding
Anything involving putting her on wheels
Juggling (you’d think this wouldn’t be a problem but she did try to once. It did not go well)
Any type of stitches that Riz would be capable of
A lot of Wii games
Just Dance
She also sucks at fantasy Mario Kart but nobody can figure out if it’s the low dex or if she’s just bad at the game
The story of the DDR machine is that once Fig and Kristen challenged each other to a DDR battle to the death and Kristen danced so hard she broke an arm
That was a fun call to Jawbone /s
Adaine once gave Gorgug one of those motivational cat posters except she changed the words to say it’s Gorgug keep going
He genuinely loves it it was one of the things he took with him when he went to go live with Fabian
They’re all neurodivergent because I’m neurodivergent and I said so
Adaine weekly has to take another pair of noise cancelling headphones out of her jacket because Kristen keeps losing hers
Kristen and Adaine are the only two who know how to properly cook
Gorgug is decent at it but he mainly just follows recipes
Riz and Fabian are banned from the kitchen
Fig hasn’t even tried to cook ever everyone knows it wouldn’t end well
Kristen swears she figured out how to make cottage cheese ice cream
She just froze cottage cheese and called it a day
Riz is constantly on hire by Fig to find Bobby Dawn
He found him like a day after he was hired (Bobby Dawn really isn’t that smart) and he told Fig exactly where he was but she just keeps vaguely bothering him
Her goal is to make him think he’s haunted
Riz refuses to take free money from Fabian so Fabian just keeps paying him insane amounts to do the easiest things
1000 gold pieces to make him 1 cup of coffee
Adaine figured out how to do the whole eyes rolling back and glowing thing on command so when someone pisses her off she just casts fly on herself does that says random words and then casts scatter on the person who pissed her off
They all love shrimp and they all love cottage cheese but they absolutely resolutely agree that combined they are fucking terrible
Aguefort does an “everyone gets a a familiar” day
Riz picks a fox
Kristen gets 5 snakes. People try to tell her she only gets one familiar but who is going to argue with the most talented cleric like ever wielding 5 snakes
Fabian picks a parrot and gives him a little eyepatch
Gorgug picks a straight up fucking bear

Some Reverse!BatFamily Headcannons
(I have a reverse!BatFamily AU. Some things never change but a lot of things do so this is just for fun)
Damian is a vegan and has been since he was quite young due to his love of animals and that he once choked on a chicken bone.
Jason reads fanfiction of Pride and Prejudice and is a author of a viral ongoing fic that is a crossover of all of Jane Austen's works but set in a post apocalyptic world.
Dick has hypoglycaemia and is prone to fainting.
Bruce *turning to Dick*: Okay and you need to--DICK
Dick: *falling off the roof*
Cassandra can mimic the Kardashian's voices with startling accuracy and is a lover of most reality Tv.
Stephanie is not squeamish at all.
Bruce: *tries to not vomit as he watches Steph stuff her hand in a live person to get a bullet.*
Bruce got motion sickness as soon as he got the kids.
Duke learned to knit and crochet. But he hates it because he's the designated art and crafts kid in the house and so people just ask him to do shit for them for free.
Tim is still the shortest despite being the second oldest.
Damian went to college and got a Bachelors degree in environmentalism and a studied law at postgrad. He's a famous environmentalist lawyer. Family nicknames him Marshall to Damain's annonyence.
Dick wants to model for reasons (Kory) but Bruce won't let him unless he got a Olympic medal. Dick got one and Bruce has moved the goalpost to five Olympic gold medals. Dick has three.
Jason and Bruce are very similar in their interests and how they rebelled. It annoys them to no end and pleases Alfred.
Stephanie wants to become a gynaecologist when she's older and volunteers at the Leslie's clinic during the summer.
TIm is a slacker and gets the worst grades. He still hasn't graduated yet.
Bruce: How's your degree going
Tim: Well, you see, I'm taking engineering classes right now. I'm going to finish my actual degree but...
Cassandra accidentally scares all the batfamily due to her quietness.
Cass: *is living*
Jason *coming out of the bathroom*: FUCK
Bruce denies that he snores despite the batkids having evidence. He says that they're "fabricating evidence" and that "even if it was true" it's not "permissible in court" since it was obtain through "illegal means".
Alfred still treats Bruce like a child.
Jason's favourite food is burritos.
Bruce hosts weekly meetings to talk over their week and to announce things. Evey one hates it.

Following publication of the final report there have been a number of questions and points for clarification about the findings and recommendations. We have collated those questions, along with our answers, on this page.
-
Did the Review set a higher bar for evidence than would normally be expected?
No, the approach to the assessment of study quality was the same as would be applied to other areas of clinical practice – the bar was not set higher for this Review.
Clarification:
The same level of rigour should be expected when looking at the best treatment approaches for this population as for any other population so as not to perpetuate the disadvantaged position this group have been placed in when looking for information on treatment options.
The systematic reviews undertaken by the University of York as part of the Review’s independent research programme are the largest and most comprehensive to date. They looked at 237 papers from 18 countries, providing information on a total of 113,269 children and adolescents.
All of the University of York’s systematic review research papers were subject to peer review, a cornerstone of academic rigour and integrity to ensure that the methods, findings, and interpretation of the findings met the highest standards of quality, validity and impartiality.
-
Did the Review reject studies that were not double blind randomised control trials in its systematic review of evidence for puberty blockers and masculinising / feminising hormones?
No. There were no randomised control studies identified in the systematic reviews, but other types of studies were included if they were well designed and conducted.
Clarification:
The Review commissioned the University of York to undertake an independent research programme to ensure the work of the Review and its recommendations were informed by the most robust existing evidence. This included a series of systematic reviews which brought together, analysed and evaluated existing evidence on a range of issues relating to the care of gender-questioning children and young people, including epidemiology, treatment approaches and international models of current practice.
Randomised control trials are considered the gold standard in relation to research, but there are many other study designs that can give valuable information. Explanatory Box 1 (pages 49-51 of the final report) discusses in more detail the different kinds of studies that can be used, and how to decide if a study is poorly designed or biased.
Blinding is a separate issue. It means that either the patient or the researcher does not know if the patient is getting an active treatment or a ‘control’ (which might be another treatment or a placebo). Patients cannot be blinded as to whether or not they are receiving puberty blockers or masculinising / feminising hormones, because the effects would rapidly become obvious. Good RCTs can be conducted without blinding.
The University of York’s systematic review search did not identify any RCTs, blinded or otherwise, but many other studies were included. Most of the studies included were called ‘cohort studies’. Well-designed and executed high quality cohort studies are used in other areas of medicine, and the bar was not set higher for this review; even so the quality of the studies was mostly only assessed as moderate.
-
Did the Review reject 98% of papers demonstrating the benefits of affirmative care?
No. Studies were identified for inclusion in the synthesis (conclusions) of the systematic reviews on puberty blockers and masculinising/feminising hormones on the basis of their quality. This was assessed using a standard quality assessment tool appropriate to the types of study identified.  All high quality and moderate quality reviews were included in the synthesis of results. This totalled 58% of the 103 papers.
Clarification:
The Newcastle-Ottawa scale (a standard appraisal tool) was used to compare the studies. This scores items such as participant selection, comparability of groups (how alike they are), the outcomes of the studies and how these were assessed (data provided and whether it is representative of those studied). High quality studies (scoring >75%) would score well on most of these items; moderate quality studies (scoring >50% – 75%) would miss some elements (which could affect outcomes); and low-quality studies would score 50% or less on the items the scale looked at. A major weakness of the studies was that they did not have adequate follow-up – in many cases they did not follow young people for long enough for the long-term outcomes to be understood.
Because the ranking was based on how the studies were undertaken (their quality and execution), low quality research was removed before the results were analysed as the findings could not be completely trusted. Had an RCT been available it would also have been excluded from the systematic review if it was deemed to be of poor quality.
The puberty blocker systematic review included 50 studies. One was high quality, 25 were moderate quality and 24 were low quality. The systematic review of masculinising/feminising hormones included 53 studies. One was high quality, 33 were moderate quality and 19 were low quality.
All high quality and moderate quality reviews were included, however as only two of the studies across these two systematic reviews were identified as being of high quality, this has been misinterpreted by some to mean that only two studies were considered and the rest were discarded. In reality, conclusions were based on the high quality and moderate quality studies (i.e. 58% of the total studies based on the quality assessment). More information about this process in included in Box 2 (pages 54-56 of the final report)

Has the Review recommended that no one should transition before the age of 25 and that Gillick competence should be overturned.
No.  The Review has not commented on the use of masculinising/feminising hormones on people over the age of 18. This is outside of the scope of the Review. The Review has not stated that Gillick competence should be overturned.
The Review has recommended that:
“NHS England should ensure that each Regional Centre has a follow through service for 17-25-year-olds; either by extending the range of the regional children and young people’s service or through linked services, to ensure continuity of care and support at a potentially vulnerable stage in their journey. This will also allow clinical, and research follow-up data to be collected.”
This recommendation only relates to people referred into the children and young people’s service before the age of 17 to enable their care to be continued within the follow-through service up to the age of 25.
Clarification:
Currently, young people are discharged from the young people’s service at the age of 17, often to an adult gender clinic. Some of these young people have been receiving direct care from the NHS gender service (GIDS as was) and others have not yet reached the top of the waiting list and have “aged out” of the young people’s service before being seen.
The Review understands that this is a particularly vulnerable time for young people. A follow-through service continuing up to age 25, would remove the need for transition (that is, transfer) to adult services and support continuity of care and continued access to a broader multi-disciplinary team. This would be consistent with other service areas supporting young people that are selectively moving to a ‘0-25 years’ service to improve continuity of care.
The follow-through service would also benefit those seeking support from adult gender services, as these young people would not be added to the waiting list for adult services and, in the longer-term, as more gender services are established, capacity of adult provision across the country would be increased.
People aged 18 and over, who had not been referred to the NHS children and young people’s gender service, would still be referred directly to adult clinics.
-
Is the Review recommending that puberty blockers should be banned?
No. Puberty blocker medications are used to address a number of different conditions. The Review has considered the evidence in relation to safety and efficacy (clinical benefit) of the medications for use in young people with gender incongruence/gender dysphoria.
The Review found that not enough is known about the longer-term impacts of puberty blockers for children and young people with gender incongruence to know whether they are safe or not, nor which children might benefit from their use.
Ahead of publication of the final report NHS England took the decision to stop the routine use of puberty blockers for gender incongruence / gender dysphoria in children.  NHS England and National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) are establishing a clinical trial to ensure the effects of puberty blockers can be safely monitored. Within this trial, puberty blockers will be available for children with gender incongruence/ dysphoria where there is clinical agreement that the individual may benefit from taking them.
Clarification:
Puberty blockers have been used to suppress puberty in children and young people who start puberty much too early (precocious puberty). They have undergone extensive testing for use in precocious puberty (a very different indication from use in gender dysphoria) and have met strict safety requirements to be approved for this condition. This is because the puberty blockers are suppressing hormone levels that are abnormally high for the age of the child.
This is different to stopping the normal surge of hormones that occur in puberty. Pubertal hormones are needed for psychological, psychosexual and brain development, and there is not yet enough information on the risks of stopping the influence of pubertal hormones at this critical life stage.
When deciding if certain treatments should be routinely available through the NHS it is not enough to demonstrate that a medication doesn’t cause harm, it needs to be demonstrated that it will deliver clinical benefit in a defined group of patients.
Over the past few years, the most common age that young people have been receiving puberty blockers in England has been 15 when most young people are already well advanced in their puberty. The new services will be looking at the best approaches to support young people through this period when they are still making decisions about longer-term options.
-
Has the Review recommended that social transition should only be undertaken under medical guidance?
The Review has advised that a more cautious approach around social transition needs to be taken for pre-pubertal children than for adolescents and has recommended that:
“When families/carers are making decisions about social transition of pre-pubertal children, services should ensure that they can be seen as early as possible by a clinical professional with relevant experience.”
Parents are encouraged to seek clinical help and advice in deciding how to support a child with gender incongruence and should be prioritised on the waiting list for early consultation on this issue. This should include discussion of the risks and benefits and the voice of the child should be heard. It will be important that flexibility is maintained, and options remain open.
Clarification:
Although the University of York’s systematic review found that there is no clear evidence that social transition in childhood has positive or negative mental health outcomes, there are studies demonstrating that for a majority of young children presenting with gender incongruence, this resolves through puberty. There is also evidence from studies of young people with differences of sex development (DSD) that sex of rearing seems to have some influence on eventual gender outcome, and it is possible that social transition in childhood may change the trajectory of gender identity development for children with early gender incongruence. Living in stealth from early childhood may also lead to stress, particularly as puberty approaches.
There is relatively weak evidence for any effect of social transition in adolescence. The Review recognises that for adolescents, exploration is a normal process, and rigid binary gender stereotypes can be unhelpful. Many adolescents will go through a period of gender non-conformity in terms of outward expressions (e.g. hairstyle, make-up, clothing and behaviours). They also have greater agency in how they present themselves and in their decision-making.
Young people and young adults have spoken positively about how social transition helped to reduce their gender dysphoria and feel more comfortable in themselves. They identified that space to talk about socially transitioning and how to handle conversations with parents/carers and others would be helpful. The Review has therefore advised that it is important to try and ensure that those already actively involved in the young person’s welfare provide support in decision making and that plans are in place to ensure that the young person is protected from bullying and has a trusted source of support.
Further detail can be found in Chapter 12 of the Final Report.
-
Did the Review speak to any gender-questioning and trans people when developing its recommendations?
Yes, the Review has been underpinned by an extensive programme of proactive engagement, which is described in Chapter 1 of the report. The Review has met with over 1000 individuals and organisations across the breadth of opinion on this subject but prioritised two categories of stakeholders:
People with relevant lived experience (direct or as a parent/carer) and organisations working with LGBTQ+ children and young people generally.
Clinicians and other relevant professionals with experience of and/ or responsibility for providing care and support to children and young people within specialist gender services and beyond.
A mixed-methods approach was taken, which included weekly listening sessions with people with lived experience, 6-weekly meetings with support and advocacy groups throughout the course of the Review, and focus groups with young people and young adults.
Reports from the focus groups with young people with lived experience are published on the Review’s website and the learning from these sessions and the listening sessions are represented in the final report.
The Review also commissioned qualitative research from the University of York, who conducted interviews with young people, young adults, parents and clinicians. A summary of the findings from this research is included as appendix 3 of the final report.
-
What is the Review’s position on conversion therapy?
Whilst the Review’s terms of reference do not include consideration of the proposed legislation to ban conversion practices, it believes that no LGBTQ+ group should be subjected to conversion practice. It also maintains the position that children and young people with gender dysphoria may have a range of complex psychosocial challenges and/or mental health problems impacting on their gender-related distress. Exploration of these issues is essential to provide diagnosis, clinical support and appropriate intervention.
The intent of psychological intervention is not to change the person’s perception of who they are but to work with them to explore their concerns and experiences and help alleviate their distress, regardless of whether they pursue a medical pathway or not. It is harmful to equate this approach to conversion therapy as it may prevent young people from getting the emotional support they deserve and make clinicians fearful of providing this group of children and young people the same care as is afforded to other children and young people.
No formal science-based training in psychotherapy, psychology or psychiatry teaches or advocates conversion therapy. If an individual were to carry out such practices they would be acting outside of professional guidance, and this would be a matter for the relevant regulator.

Sometimes it's too much, Gotham. Too much putting his body on the line for a city that can't and won't change.
Bruce imagines what his life could have been, what his children's lives could have been, if things had been different.
~~
Sometimes it's too much. Gotham. Too polluted, too populated, to poor...
Morally poor, he should say. The money's never been more than a means to an end for Bruce and he's never cared who has or hasn't got it. Even if he knows that's evidence enough of how out of touch he really is. To not be, and never have been, the levels of desperate so many of his fellow Gothamites have. Are. But he can't change that now. Not after a lifetime of more money than he could ever hope to spend (and God knows he's tried).
And it's not that he thinks poverty equals moral corruptness. Of course not. But God, if it doesn't cause a rot that's hard to escape. An agony deep in the bones, like an atomic bomb. Almost a century since, but still poisoning the ground and the air and the lives where it fell.
It's too much, sometimes. Gotham. Decades of putting his body, his heart, mind on the line for a city that doesn't change and can't change and... Won't.
Part of his Brucie-rich-boy-bit has always been a pretend man of the people. 'Billionaire spotted on Chicago's L-train', a picture of him in $5,000 jeans, throwing a peace sign on the platform at Quincy. 'Bruce Wayne joins the commute on Bangkok's BTS Skytrain' sunburned and sweaty and grinning like a moron. Public transport is easy when you don't need it. The delays, the overcrowding, the cost. All part of the big adventure when you're rich and famous.
He's deliberate in his appearances. Shows up too big to be allowed and always lost. Asking fellow travellers for directions and breaking every unspoken, local rule. Stopping at the bottom of escalators and standing on the right and never having his ticket ready at the barriers... but he's deliberate in his anonymity too.
He's ridden the New York subway and Shanghai's metro and Vienna's U-bahn more times than he can count. Undercover, trailing marks and tailing suspects, slipping past local police and resident gangsters alike. Just another nameless face in the crowd.
But then there's the times he's just there as himself. Times he rides the lines as Bruce. Not the billionaire, not the Bat. Just Bruce. Grey Ghost fan, hates mushrooms, loves dinosaurs. Father, friend, son. Just another traveller amidst the millions. Nobody wanting anything from him, nobody talking to him, nobody even noticing him. It's freedom unlike any he's ever known.
It makes him wonder what his life might have been. If he hadn't been born in the South Wing's master bedroom of Wayne Manor. What his children's lives might have been, if their father had just been a man, and not this man.
Dick for sure, Olympic medallist. There's no doubt. Even without the money and the training and the classes, his boy was destined for greatness. Gold medals and podiums and adoration. Coaching and teaching and leading. And, Bruce fancies, probably the ESPN correspondent for major competitions. Team USA coach. International Olympic Committee. Whatever Dick wanted; in any life there's nothing he couldn't do.
Cass, Bruce likes to think, would have been an architect. If she'd ever been afforded a normal life, ever been given the tender love and care she so deserved as a child. She reads people with ease, drilled into her as it was by Cain; a skill as crucial as its learning was cruel. But given a normal life? Architecture, Bruce is sure. The way she navigates space, the way she uses it and understands it. What better way to make a life than creating in the space she so fully inhabits? Designing structures that change the way people live, challenge how they think. She'd have been glorious.
Tim, on the other hand... Tim. If Bruce thinks about him too long the guilt starts to set in. His brilliant boy, just next door; alone for so long. Bruce was intimately familiar with the experience, though at least he'd had Alfred when he'd been young. If only he'd just paid more attention, he could have— anyway. In another time, one where Bruce rides the subway and to work and Tim doesn't spend the first decade of his life by himself, surely he'd be some fintech billionaire wizz kid by now. He'd have created a Facebook or eBay or Venmo. But better. Kinder. Richer probably than Bruce, now. And he'd still ride the metro next to his old man.
Damian, Bruce's youngest, sweetest boy. Who knows what Damian could have been, in a life where Bruce and Talia kissed each other goodbye every morning and sweet dreams each night. He's a gentle soul, really, fierce as he is. Shows it in his affection for animals. Gives them the tenderness he never had as a child. Who knows what he could have been in a life filled with light instead of shadow. Warmth and love instead of the League's relentless dark. A scientist maybe, or an astronaut. A teacher, a vet, a nurse. Whatever he wanted. A gardener, a piano tuner, a cab driver. Happy, whatever it was. And safe in the knowledge he was loved.
And then... and then, Jason. Bruce thinks of his second son the most, as he rides the rails. Takes the Bakerloo south from Marylebone and the Tanamachi west to Hirano. What Jason could have been, if things had been different. It doesn't seem fair to dwell on it. To imagine the darling, sweet boy who had been Robin as anything but. To disrespect the incredible fucking gift he's already been given of a second chance, by imagining it as any different. So instead he thinks that Jason would still be Robin. Still Red Hood. Still saving people, still putting himself on the line to make the world better. Even if Bruce didn't love the way he did it, he still loved Jason. Gods did he love him. It's too much, sometimes.
Gotham. Sometimes she's too much. But most of the time, most of the time she was everything. His home, his children's home.
To see the sun rise from the east corner of the clocktower with Cass and swing between the crumbling art deco blocks of Coventry, Dick by his side. Racing down her labyrinth of alleyways and side streets with Tim and even negotiating her sewers with Damian. And Jason. Just seeing Jason's face, scowling at him though it usually is, as he waits outside the Collins Street station for Bruce to arrive.
"Your late." He grunts, as Bruce climbs the steps of the subway. He looks at his watch irritably. "If we miss brunch, you're paying."
"Of course," Bruce says, a warm hand on Jason's shoulder as they begin to walk. "Anything for you, chum."
She's too much, sometimes. Gotham. But most of the time? She's exactly where he wants to be

The Wayne’s getting ready for a dinner party:
Bruce: And I’ll hide a batarang here and a batarang here and a batarang here and a batarang here and a-
Dick: Popped collar maybe? *flashbacks to Discowing* …No. Undo another button? *flashbacks to Discowing* …No. Gold accent? *flashbacks to Discowing* …silver it is.
Tim: *Spends two hours debating between designer clothes and decides he can’t choose so he’ll just wear a button down and that one pair of slacks that make his butt look good.*
Cass: *Wears a nice skirt and proudly shows anyone around that it has pockets. Whenever it would have the best dramatic effect, she widens her stance enough to show it’s actually pants with a very wide cut.*
Damian: *Walks out of his room, sees Bruce, goes back to his room. Comes back out wearing the same thing as Bruce but with a red shirt instead of blue. Studies Bruce for a moment, goes back to his room, comes back with no noticeable changes. (He noticed the Batarangs and stashed a few weapons as well. He claims he’s only following Bruce’s lead as the head of the family. He actually just likes copying his dad.)*
Bonus:
Jason: What do you mean I’m not dressed up? There aren’t a any stains and I wore my nice boots! Is the jacket the problem? *The problem is that he’s wearing jeans, a t-shirt, combat boots, and the leather jacket does have stains.*

Moonbeam Dick
I probably had too much fun with this one, but Dick's had so many iterations & costumes over the years, so much cool lore, and is one of the heroes we can actually track real-world influence on his designs! (Whoever came up with the idea to take the Doyalist reasoning of superhero costumes being based on circus performers & wrestlers, and retconning it into Dick's backstory to make the Robin costume based on the Flying Graysons' performance outfits: I see you, and I love you.) So this has been a wild, whirlwind trip through the real-world evolution of gymnastics outfits, acrobatic costuming, and comic history (paying special attention to the different costumes we've actually seen in the various flashbacks/retellings of Dick's origin over the years,) while getting way too many design ideas along the way.)
Now here's a hurdle, because Dick's not going to start with a past Moonbeam costume as his base and alter it to reflect himself. Dick Grayson is going to start with his acrobat costume, and alter it to become Moonbeam. So we're starting with a bodysuit. Skin-tight, full-sleeve, the type that loops around your middle finger to stay in place. Neckline like this fucking fantastic redesign by mabychan.
Tumblr media
(Gods, every time I see this picture, I need to stop & stare for like... at least 3min.)
Next: the colors. Dick likes bright colors & high contrast; you barely need to glance at even one of his costumes to realize that. I, personally, really love the version where the Robin suit was a tribute to his family, but red & green really aren't "Moonbeam" colors. Fortunately, the Flying Grayson's costumes have also been shown as potential inspiration for Dick's Nightwing suit, which seems to me like a great way to keep that tidbit in without defaulting to the Robin colors! So the new color scheme is sky blue, dark blue, and white-gold (which would probably be either more silver or gold, depending on the artist.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So the suit is predominantly light blue, with a larger the dark blue triangle like his Lost Carnival costume on the upper chest, the shoulder-points of which partially run down his upper arms. While some artists might have them go all the way to his elbows or even the finger-loops on his hands personally I don't see them going further than about halfway down Dick's biceps (at first), where the very tips of them disappear behind golden arm-bands which can be used to store gadgets. Matching bands around his thighs, too, though those are larger, for bigger pockets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(While I am trying to evoke how some people draw the 90s Nightwing gold stripe as separate bands lower down the arm, it's probably easiest to imagine Steph's leg-bands to explain this. Also, the bands on this absolutely delightful bedazzled Nightwing by rinpin that I cannot get out of my head are a good reference for placement.)
The triangle also does a great job of framing Dick's Moonbeam symbol: a crescent moon that covers most of his upper chest, filling the triangle from side to side.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(It's another subtle tribute to his parents. Also, the green & gold "All-Star Batman and Robin" costumes are the best look the Flying Graysons have ever worn, don't @ me.)
Like with Cass, I actually found my inspiration for this when I realized what Dick would use to hide his identity: a "colombina" masquerade mask.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(These two specifically inspired me while I was doing research.)
The legs are dark blue, cut at an angle where they meet Dick's torso to evoke Tim's original Robin costume (and, to a lesser extent, the Earth 2 grown-up Robin costume) and make the bodysuit look even more like a classic leotard. Dark blue or black gloves underneath the finger-loops to protect Dick's hands & keep his fingerprints off of things. Black boots with a lighter hem on top (either the light blue or white-gold, I don't really care which) with the V top we see on the Earth-2 Robin's boots, echoing the triangle on his chest. The soles of the boot are light blue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The boots will, almost certainly, end up being drawn as just part of the leg, colored the same dark blue as the legs and just having a lighter stripe around his shins as well as the band around his thighs. This is not at all the intended design, but I've been looking at comic costumes for months now, and I know how details get fudged.)
So. That's the acrobat angle with enough details to make it at least passable as Moonbeam. I feel like it needs some more armor. Looking at what I've got so far, how about something like these gauntlets I used as a reference for Shadow!Steph and some simple pauldrons, both in white-gold?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, while Dick's "utility belt" is more of a waist sash with hidden pockets inside, I keep going back & forth on whether or not to give him a scale-mail skirt for the extra protection & flair. It makes sense, but I worry it might be a bit much...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Styled much like the one on the left, but closer in length to the one on the right. Color could be either light blue to extend the line of his torso & keep the colors balanced or white-gold to keep all the metallic bits consistent.)
This one has been, despite how much fun I had brainstorming, the biggest pain pinning anything down on. I'm so glad I'm done with it now.
