some more cool facts about thunderstorms that you can use in your writing:

while tornadoes are incredibly dangerous and destructive, a far more common and possibly deadly threat to be aware of during storms are straight-line winds! when a thunderstorm collapses, all of the air in it flows downwards and scatters in random directions across the ground in straight lines, picking up momentum. these events are called microbursts or downbursts. straight line winds are only classified as such when they exceed a speed of 50-60 mph (~80-97 kmh). microbursts have been known to rip the roofs and shutters off of houses, overturn vehicles, and launch heavy wooden beams into the air.

broad swaths of straight line winds that occur at the front of particularly large and strong storm systems are called derechos. derechos can last for hundreds or even thousands of miles before dissipating and are only classified as such when their damage exceeds 240 miles (~386 km) and if the wind speeds exceeded 58 mph (~93 kmh). due to their size and strength, derechos can cause catastrophic and widespread damage. they're often found in the Great Plains areas during storm season in spring and summer.

single-cell thunderstorms, often called "popcorn" storms, are brief, weak storms that pop up and die out usually within an hour, most often caused by the ground heating up in summer.

multi-cell storms are a common variety of thunderstorm in which several cells of storms form a line or group, called a squall line. individual cells may last from 30 to 60 minutes, but the group as a whole may take hours to die out.

supercells are huge, long-lasting, highly organized storms centered around updrafts (rising air), which can be up to 10 miles (16 km) wide and 50,000 feet (15km) tall. most of the most dangerous and destructive tornadoes come from supercells.

the big, overhanging cloud that stretches over a supercell is called the anvil!

a line of clouds that precedes and accompanies the supercell around its edges is called the flanking line.

i don’t know if i’m ever gonna write the fic but i’ve been thinking abt like. the eternal stockade. the implications. lup, a lich who was trapped in a dark featureless cell for a decade completely isolated with nothing to keep her sanity but her own mind. she has to put people in the eternal stockade. how many liches does she see herself in. how many liches started out just like her. how many liches are truly too far gone. and the only liches we ever see other than her and barry are edward and lydia. they’re certainly evil, but mad? they seem pretty sane. they’re not, like, tattered echoes of souls, they’re definitely still people. even as much of a grudge as lup surely has against them, wouldn’t they remind her incredibly strongly of herself? do they deserve to be trapped just like she was? for eternity? isn’t eternity what turned john to existential despair in the first place?

this is probably an unpopular opinion with the amount of "everyone is married with kids" type future aus people make for sonic characters but i cannot see sonic getting married or having a kid ever. if he did somehow end up with a kid hed be the worlds first transmasc absent father or however the joke goes

#i can only see sonic with a kid if its some random kid he accidentally adopted or whatever #and if he had a partner whatever they have going on probably wouldnt fit the typical idea of how having a partner works at all #i dont think sonic is a very romantic guy to be honest. and being in a serious relationship or ''settling down'' wouldnt be for him #i guess you could argue his feelings towards that sort of stuff could change once hes an adult #but i kinda. dont like. the idea of him suddenly becoming interested in romance and wanting to settle down #as a sign hes ''finally grown up'' or whatever. because lack of interest in romance isnt an immature trait you have to grow out of #some people never want that sort of thing and thats fine #anyway i dont hate fankids to be clear i think theyre fun in concept . like from a design standpoint #taking traits from characters you like to make a new guy out of it is fun #i just cannot imagine those things ever actually happening does that make sense #actually while im at it i dont think rouge would want kids at all either . people want her to be motherly so bad but she just is not #she is the cool older sister figure who teaches you how to steal from the pin container at hot topic without getting caught. not a mom

#my characters #haha funny thing is that venus doesnt even exist in base plot she is ONLY for AUs #in base plot ego the ginger guy is a prince and serenity the navy haired guy is an energy alien #and serenity takes on the form of a human to be fake engaged to ego and its never meant to actually end up with them married #but serenity falls in love with the prince and feels immense guilt when they meet up #and then ego is like HAHA YEAH my life is the greatest cause i get to marry my best friend but technically youre best friend by default #since i have zero other friends because i cannot leave the castle which kinda sucks but whatever #and serenity can give his life force to others to keep them healthy and usually stops by to heal egos younger brother #so he looks tired a lot bc he is depleting his own life to help others #and and in au versions hes just chronically tired and very much in love with ego who is completely oblivious #and half the time they (bc theyre mine) are pining mutually thinking ahaha theres no WAY hed like me #or in egos case a lot of the time in the au its what if he only likes me cause i spoil him rotten bc im super wealthy and i love gifting #and serenity ! in base plot since he is an alien from like... space.... basically... another realm #he resides with another royal family in a different kingdom and the king there treats him like a son #which plays into the au versions where serenity is adopted and he just really loves his dad a lot #like really admires the man who adopted him and raised him as a single father who almost always has a connection to egos dad since #in base theyre just two kings being buddies and trying to get good relations between their kingdoms #but anyway ego is one of the few ocs i have that will actively say #I LOVE YOU SO MUCH : D very openly and i love that for him??#not a lot of my ocs will be that open about their feelings but ego is very good at communication and talking and stuff #compared to serenity who is an alien who doesnt even have to talk where he originated bc the aliens are just blue energy blobs #and they sense each other and communicate silently #so making him take a human form is like MMMM not sure how to interact like a normal human tbh #i owe art to one person then i am able to get back to indulgent stuff for me and reqs and stuff #this was just so i had something to post today since idk if the art i owe someone will be cool to post or not
