Yeehawgust Day 1 - Stars of the Midnight Range

I'm going to do my best with this challenge because 1) I am excited to draw cowboy turtles and 2) I wanted to challenge myself to learn to draw some damn BGs with the chalk brush since I can't do it with straight lines

because like i found this introduction to astrophysics book online and it was doing okay at explaining things in an accessible way to me at first but there are a lot of things that i know i’m never gonna be able to wrap my brain around without actually having a back and forth conversation with someone who understands

they need to make a website where you can message (VERIFIED) scientists who like to yap about their area of expertise so i can ask them about stuff

i must not get takeout. takeout is the wallet-killer. takeout is the little-death that brings total obliteration. i will face the kitchen, fridge, and pantry. i will make choices about what to cook and then execute them. when hunger is gone there will be nothing. only i will remain.

Time to get back in the saddle, folks! It’s time for Yeehawgust year 7 and there are starry skies ahead.

Yeehawgust features daily art prompts as well as alternative weekly prompts, for those of us who are a bit slower on the draw. Don’t draw at all? No problem! Submit any art at all, be it illustration, comics, writing, fanfiction, photography, embroidery, sculpture, music, or whatever other creative endeavors you might enjoy. What matters is that you made it with your own hands, and all skill levels are welcome! 

Maybe you love media like Red Dead Redemption and Fallout: New Vegas, or you’re a fan of the western genre. Perhaps you want to see your blorbos in boots and spurs, or put your OCs in a Stetson. Heck, you could just like drawing horses. Whatever the reason, you’re welcome to join in, pardner!

The idea of a literary canon, the important books one should apparently read, is hotly debated of course, which often feels necessary and or fun. Voices gain cultural prominence, or lose it, or are blocked from participating, invited or disinvited, prized or banned, and I like listening, occasionally participating in this conversation in one way or another. But the most important literary canon is one's own, not just a list of favourite books or what have you, but the individual moments, the twists of plot or turns of phrase, the tiny secret reasons you love what you love. This canon keeps you company, gives you comfort and delight. You can take some bits with you when you go sit some place, and sometimes you could do something with them, aside from just marveling at them for the umpteenth time.
