Guys guys I wanna do my silly headcanons for the King Boos cause I can and 🫶

Just listen to my massive yap session its too late for this

Some following background information on boos in general before I start:

⟡ Boos, in my vision, are not spirits of the undead and are instead their own species. Whether or not this is confirmed is beyond me, but this is how I’ve always seen it! Other ghosts could fit this same scenario (like the ghosts in Luigi’s Mansion with the exception of the boss ghosts who I totally see as being once alive).

⟡ They have a hierarchy very similar to bees where one of their species is the most powerful and important, acting as their King while the rest are essential workers. How a boo becomes King is determined by their magical ability to create other boos. Typically every 100 years or so, a new King will arise and take the crown. Their size also shows this off as a King Boo will be much bigger compared to the rest of the species.

⟡ Speaking of how boos are created! As I said, only the Kings can create new boos. It’s not exactly asexual reproduction.. it’s just magic that they have the ability to create unique life (so no.. none of them are related 😬). This can only be achieved every year where a King will birth a new batch of baby boos. It’s actually considered a major celebration for the species who gather around every year to watch the creation of life.

⟡ Just a small side note since I’m on the topic.. I wholeheartedly believe boos are completely genderless and sexless. The only reason they have a “king” is solely because it seems like Kings rule most of the other species (King Bob-omb, King Whomp, King Bowser, etc etc..) so the boos thought it was best to detonate their leader with the same title. Most boos use he/him to follow suit with this as well 🫶

Anyway!! Moving on to the actual Kings!! :DD

⟡ King Boo - The King of the Living

- Due to there being multiple King Boos, they are given small nicknames to help differentiate..

- This King Boo is basically the iterations we see in every Mario game of King Boo besides Luigi’s Mansion or Super Mario Sunshine. The barebones big ghost with a crown.

⟡ They are the friendliest King out of the known three King Boos and the eldest. They rule over every boo species with a few exceptions.. He is overall considered a decent ruler who only wants what is best for his kind, even if it means working with Bowser to achieve a semblance of peace for his people + give them a place to reside in since the Mushroom Kingdom has specifically warded out boos long before they worked with Bowser.

⟡ The reason why is he known as the King of the Living is for what I stated earlier about boos not being undead creatures and are instead their own species. Therefore, the “living”-

⟡ King Boo - The King of the Dead

- This King Boo is strictly from Luigi’s Mansion. I do consider King Boo from Luigi’s Mansion and the barebones one from like Mario Kart to not be the same individual, even though I believe it’s canon? They’re different people in my glorious little eyeballs 💅

⟡ This King Boo was unfortunate enough to be born an heir to the throne, given his size, but found out that he was completely unable to create life due to an unknown cause. Before it was discovered, he was essentially groomed and treated as a young Prince who was quickly thrown to the wolves once it was found out he wasn’t a “true King”. He was seen as a deformity and ridiculed for it. He was unable to find purpose for himself as his original one was ripped straight out of his hands.

⟡ Slowly over the years, he grew spiteful and bitter, dedicated to finding a way to fix this. Since he believed it was a magic problem, he sought after a crown that would be sure to make him powerful. This, of course, would be the red crystal crown seen in the first Luigi’s Mansion. However, it didn’t come with its costs of meddling with King Boo’s mind, making him more prone to impulsive decisions and rash thoughts.

⟡ The crown was a success though! He was able to create new life, new boos. These boos are slightly different from regular boos as instead of the four fanged mouths, they instead have simple vampire fangs! King Boo rules over these individuals, keeping them away from civilization to avoid his secret from breaking.

⟡ The main reason why he was known as the King of the Dead is that he also rules over and gives those like the Boss ghosts a place to reside! Those who were once alive :D

⟡ I don’t believe King Boo is inherently a bad person as he was the one provoked in the first place by both Professor E. Gadd and Mario, two people harming his subjects. The crown also has its fair share of worsening the already built up anger in his body. I think he just needs a smooch from Luigi to make things better 💪✨

⟡ King Boo - King of the Unreal

- This King Boo is the one seen in Super Mario Sunshine. The high one. I love him 💅

⟡ The technical youngest of the Kings. Lore wise: He is not a real boo as he is made entirely from paint alongside his subjects. He can still create more boos out of his own magic without the help from Bowser Jr. He rules only after the sleepy boos found in the game and therefore is still considered a King.

⟡ The sleaziest and probably worst King out of the three, being particularly evil in letting others play his gambling games with no way to win. He enjoys tormenting others, letting his boos scare and be absolute nuisances to citizens, and being an overall douche.

⟡ Despises spicy food. It is his worst enemy. Big ol baby hisses at the sight of pepper

Honorable Mention!!:

⟡ Bouldergeist

- This super cool boss is found in Super Mario Galaxy!! Eee I love him so much how could I not mention him

⟡ As in the game, he has the ability to create a new type of boo called the Bomb Boos. Black boos that explode when thrown around. I haven’t fully decided lore headcanons for this guy, but some ideas are popping up.

⟡ Bombs boos, I’d imagine, are the most mindless out of the entire boo species and probably aren’t real boos. They’re kind of built to die quickly and act as offensive guards for Bouldergeist.

⟡ Is Bouldergeist just a deformed Bomb Boo?? He looks the part and constantly creates them when his rocky exterior is destroyed… Maybe they’re like a hivemind. The bomb boos are Bouldergeist ya know ya know.. or another thought is that he’s like a really deformed King Boo 😭 Who knows- I love him though, he’s a cutie patootie

There’s more I could delve into. Like what boo rules what or are some ghostly enemies just kinda without a ruler. Ex: Who rules over enemies like peepas, fishing boos (which are just dead lakitus I’m assuming..), octoboos, etc etc..

Anyway that’s my ranting for the day that I just wanted to get out of my system. If anything contradicts the lore, sorry about that, I’m not t h e most big on extensive Mario lore, especially for games I’ve never touched- 😭

Hiiiii, re ur post abt goals and the whole being more active in the community thing -- I'll try to remember to interact with u more than just liking/reblogging things! I've been super quiet on my own blog since I had burnout two years ago but I'm trying to get back into doing more than just occasionally posting fic, and honestly I love a lot of ur head canon posts and metas etc. I probably won't read any of ur fic because I'm a Bit Weird in that for some reason I hate reading fic in the fandoms I write for (but still love metas and headcanons? Brains sure are weird) but everything else I'll try to actually Write Words instead of letting my thoughts stay in my head!

I would totally welcome conversation, and it’s great to know that you are open to it, too. Because I feel like Tumblr as a platform runs on a parallel play model on purpose, and most people probably just want to do that, and my hesitation in going full throttle about using Tumblr the way I would want is my fear that it is going to be obnoxious/overbearing/overwhelming (e.g. driving people to madness via “Why is this person talking to me… I didn’t want to talk to them...”).

It’s so funny you should say that, re: enjoying hcs/meta but not fanfic in your writing fandoms, because I think about that divide a lot! Half the time I spend writing most* headcanon posts is actually time spent workshopping “sooooo…. how do I say this without saying ‘well, in my fanfic…’” because it’s probably something I already wrote in fanfic or notes for fanfic, but 1) I want to talk to people about it, and the chances that I will get to if it’s written in a fanfic are fairly slim, and 2) I want to hear other people’s versions of it, too. In their fanfic, if they write fanfic, but also their posts or tags!

But that can be complicated because in my mind, [insert headcanon post topic] tends to be fairly situated in context—the context of fic things having happened, or things that are going to happen, or thematic undercurrents/relationships—so it becomes a project in trying to make the proposition NOT sound completely bananas without that context/something being written in a particular way. Which can sometimes be its own kind of fun and is sometimes like “good grief, I could have simply been writing more fanfic!” (I feel like I should emphasize here that no one should feel obligated to read my fanfic. I mean, I want people to want to read it! But I very much do not want anyone to feel like they Have To or like they need to explain why they’re not!)

Our approaches are opposite, in that my brain is fanfic forward, both for myself and for others’ fanfic. But I do feel like a lot of RP blogs share your orientation re: not wanting to read other versions of the character they write for! I don’t know if this is where you, specifically, are coming from, but I’ve read on some of the RP blogs that it has a lot to do with having a strong investment in their own particular color on things, and wanting that centered and front of mind. (Which isn’t to say that sentiment isn’t true of most people, I think, because otherwise they wouldn’t write them that way—it’s true of me—but ymmv on how much someone wants to see the other iterations.)

For me, I know that I’m a lot less adventurous about Interpretations That Excite Me for my blorbos than other characters I might read for. Like, to use a silly example, in my mind Soi Fon is 100% Lesbian (which stands out in my headcanon space because I generally assume most everyone in Bleach would be on some level willing to get down with most anyone else), but did I click on Soi Fon/Vegeta when I came across it anyway? Absolutely I did. I barely know who Vegeta is. But my down-to-clown boundaries with Soi Fon are very low, nearly tabula rasa, so go get Vegeta, girl!!!! Whereas for like, Hitsugaya, I’m probably not going to read Hitsugaya/Vegeta because I am not actually a crossover person, my knowledge of DBZ is limited to The Osmotic Experience of Having Grown Up in the 90s, and my favorite version of Hitsugaya’s sex life is the absence of one.

*Of course, there are other headcanons posts in the omake/filler vein that are simply too dumb (affectionate) for me to want to write full fanfic of, like the Gotei regatta or the Gotei bowling league, or that “I think the average shikai user would probably be pretty good at driving a car but they would NOT be considerate or lawful users of said car” post.

Why do you write Steddie?

I love smacking the Ken dolls together and making them kiss. But for real, I had been a (very) casual fan of Stranger Things since around Season 2, but there was something so infinitely intriguing about Steve and Eddie that I couldn’t help but be drawn to them from the second S4 part 1 aired. Then the BTS pictures came out of what would eventually be the “Don’t’cha big boy?” scene and it was sort of just a slow descent into a sprint to madness from there. I love that surface level, these two don’t look like they should work but somehow they just do. So I love making them fall in love again and again. Each fic I write is a pocket universe where these boys eventually look at each other and say, “Yes, I choose you” and I think that’s beautiful.

What’s your favorite trope to READ?

Mutual Pining 100%. I love when a fic makes you ache before they get to the juicy romance of it all. Bonus points if they’re fucking the entire time they’re pining.

What’s your favorite trope to WRITE?

I’ve noticed over time that most of my fics involve a miscommunication of some sort. I just love putting these boys in Situations—anything that makes them a little bit messy. I love a good fight and a resolution: Friends with Benefits to Lovers, Situationship to Lovers, I Gave You A Hand Job Once and Now We’re Lovers (But We Don’t Know it Yet). They are Idiot4Idiot, always.

What’s your favorite Steddie fic?

One that I return to quite often is the other hand knocking by greatunironic. I don’t often read Historical AUs, but if I could recommend one I would recommend this one. There is a monologue Eddie says in the final chapters that has stuck with me. If I ever could do a podfic, I think it would be this one.

Is there a trope you’re excited to explore in a future work but haven’t yet?

I would love to write a true AU one day. I tend to stick in my safe zone of Canon or Canon Divergence, I think I might find the limitations it has to be comforting. Alternate Universe fics (true ones like Modern AU, or Historical AUs, etc.) feel so scary and daunting to me, no matter how much I love them.

What is your writing process like?

Writing is a true hobby for me, I have to admit I don’t feel like I have a real “process” and I recognize I probably make it harder for myself than I probably have to. I sort of throw words in a doc until something sticks, fics are usually thought of with a general concept or sometimes even a specific scene that comes to me and then I build out the fic from there. Sometimes it happens fast but most of the time it happens fairly slow. I’ll read, and reread, and edit and add more until it’s done. There’s a madness about it I can’t quite explain, I don’t really know how I get anything posted at the end of the day.

Do you have any writing quirks?

I enjoy putting through lines in most of my fics, something I consider to be a Universal Truth across all my Steves and Eddies, etc. Like I said before, I consider them all to be pocket universes, and they’re mostly lighthearted, silly things. Like that Steve enjoys WHAM! and Eddie hates that he enjoys WHAM!, or that Steve had a totally unrequited crush on Jonathan Byers (whether he knows it or not). They’re like little easter eggs, something I don’t think anyone but myself has really noticed, but they make me happy. Also, I've never once written something chronologically: I hop around to different points and different scenes the whole time. Sometimes I’ll have the end of the fic written before even the middle of it exists.

Do you prefer posting when you’ve finished writing or on a schedule?

What typically happens is I have every intention of finishing the fic and then starting to post it, but I will get 80-90% done writing it and end up posting the first chapter as motivation to get to the end. I do, however, prefer to wait until I’m done writing everything before starting to post when I can (especially because of the aforementioned chaotic writing & non chronological habits.)

Which fic are you most proud of?

It would feel wrong if I didn’t mention you looking at me, looking at you (affectionately referred to as YLAM.) It was my first multichapter for Steddie, and I posted it in the height of Steddie Summer ‘22, essentially in real time of finishing chapters. Though I might not think it’s the best of the best of my writing, I also don’t think it’s bad (actually reread bits of it a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised about how much I enjoyed it lol). It holds a very, very special place in my Steddie heart; I made so many new fandom friends (and a mini YLAM army, iykyk) while writing this fic.

How did you get the idea for MEMORIA?

Memoria was first thought of back in January 2023. I had the thought of writing an Eddie-centric fic based around the idea that he was taken into Witness Protection after the events of S4. I’m a lover of angst, and it felt like a delicious area to dive into. I also wanted to write an aged up Steddie, since at that point I had been writing them mostly at their canon ages, MEMORIA allowed me to do a bit of a time jump. Funnily enough, I originally thought it would be an Eddie POV thing, but Steve apparently had a lot to say.

When writing MEMORIA, what was something you didn’t expect?

I didn’t expect it to be so damn long, I truly thought it was going to be around 30k—and then I had written 30k and the fuckers hadn’t even kissed yet. It also originally in my mind was going to be a much darker sort of fic—I was toying around with going deeper with substance abuse for Eddie, something that is lightly hinted at in the Eddie companion fic, strange what desire will make foolish people do. In the end I was shocked about how much lighter the whole thing felt.

What inspired TIMESTAMP: April 10, 1989?

TIMESTAMP was written for @steddiemicrofic’s 1 year of Steddie Microfic challenge to write something using 1,111 words. I took it very seriously and said to myself, what is 1,111 days from March 27, 1986? (The answer may shock you.)

What was your favorite part to write from TIMESTAMP: April 10, 1989?

I’ll be the first to admit I’m not a concise writer, so writing TIMESTAMP was a challenge to fit within the steddiemicrofic word count. But when you do widdle it down, or up, to that word count it is immensely satisfying to know you told a whole story within a limited amount of words.

How do/did you feel writing deep in, under my skin?

I loved it! For someone who loves Eddie as much as I do, I tend to write more Steve POV than Eddie POV, deep in was an opportunity to add to the small pile of Eddie POVs I have. Eddie has always felt more funny and playful to me, even if he’s not having a super fun and playful time.

What was the most difficult part of writing deep in, under my skin?

Of all the fics highlighted here I remember deep in actually being the most straightforward! I’m pretty sure I wrote it to procrastinate working on Memoria. The only difficult part was I didn’t want it to be too similar to my fic YLAM which has sort of a similar premise: Steddie situationship/friends with benefits. I wanted to explore the hooking up to lovers aspect of Steddie again, but didn’t necessarily want to rehash the same thing I’ve already done.

Do you have a favorite scene and/or line from any of your fics?

This was by far the hardest question. I think this bit from strange what desire is my favourite of what I’ve written recently. It’s such a through line of every fic I write, I think: Steve paints them a picture, he writes them a song, and Eddie is interwoven into every line, every brushstroke of it. He talks of a future, he talks about love. He talks about living life, about taking Eddie’s hand and showing him how to live it, too. What if we make it? What if?

Do you have any upcoming projects or fics you’d like to share/promote?

I have been dipping my toes in and out of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer AU for close to a year now. It’s slow going, I haven’t even posted the main fic that started the whole idea yet, but I do have two prequel-style fics set in the same universe: LOVE BITES and FOOL FOR LOVE. If you are interested, I would love if you checked them out. (It includes Slayer!Nancy, Werewolf!Jonathan, Witch!Robin, Vampire!Eddie, and Just a Guy!Steve Harrington.)

I have been summoned by the newest chapter of losing hope :3

Not much happened but I’m taking this as a “I will give you fluff both after and before things go to shit”

Jingyi being Jin Ling’s reluctant friend is honestly pretty hilarious and I can’t wait to see those two start to get close because I feel like that’ll be like “I hate this person with every fiber of my being but if you make him cry there will be nobody searching for your body and no body to find either.” Especially after they realize the type of environment he was in his entire life in comparison to their childhoods. They’re goofy and I love ‘em.

Wangxian being shameless is always amazing (love that it’s LWJ doing it too!) but Wwx missing his sword. Jesus, that made me sad. It’d be interesting to see how suibian communicates with Wwx because in canon we know that the swords have spirits but that’s never really expanded upon. Especially since suibian sealed itself. It’d be nice to see them communicating with their weapons (also imagine suibian mother henning Wwx? Or even Wwx thinking of suibian as a sibling/parental figure? The angst for that would be great especially combined with the scene of Wwx giving away his golden core. Both of them would know Wwx would never be able to properly use suibian again and wow that would hurt. Also I’d imagine since Jiang cheng can also use suibian, suibian does care for him much like Wwx but also it’d be funny if it didn’t particularly like him. Like, the entire time Jiang cheng uses suibian it is fluently cursing at him.)

Jingyi picking up on LWJ pining/flirting is very funny but probably not as funny as it will be when sizhui realizes that A) they’ve both been pining for each other for almost two decades B) 100% they are not in a relationship even if they’re totally shameless with each other and C) they both SOMEHOW have NO IDEA that the other likes them back. The facepalm when that realization sinks in will be funny :3

Now, I don't know what you meeeaaaan, there is barely any angst in my fic whatsoever and there will never be anymore angst-...*checks timeline doc*....for nowwww....In all seriousness though, I can't actually remember/decide if there will be any angst next chapter, but oh boy if there was wouldn't that be silly. Wouldn't that be sooo goofy? Guess we'll never ever ever EVER know. I was feeling soft and silly, and this was more of a filler chapter, so I was like, "fluff be upon ye" I guess.

Jingyi and Jin Ling are going to have a very interesting friendship - Jin Ling's been raised differently because Wei Wuxian has kind of been a part of his childhood, so I wonder if that will affect how he builds/views relationships with other people - what do you MEAN I can't foreshadow in my post, who said that?! Anyway, I can't wait to think about it from Lan Sizhui's perspective; dude feels bad for Jin Ling because it is OBVIOUS that this poor guy does not know how to talk to people and if he is befriending what everyone labels as a dangerous criminal, then he is in severe need of friendship. Then there's Jingyi in the background, barking like a chihuahua every time Jin Ling does something that the Lan doesn't like until they devolve into fighting.

Ever since I learned about sword spirits, I've always wondered how Suibian would interact with Wei Wuxian and how they work together. I read one too many SVSSS fics where sword spirits hold a big value in them and it was all downhill from there. Think about it - Wei Wuxian had a lot of people who knew him in Lotus Pier, but he was never truly vulnerable with anyone (except maybe Jiang Yanli, but even then, it wasn't much) because he didn't want to sound ungrateful. So, imagine a Wei Wuxian who found solace in ranting to Suibian. Now imagine a Suibian listening and soothing in their own way. You see my vision, right? Imagine losing that when he needed it the most, during the Burial Mounds. Imagine finally being able to get it back after years of unforgettable trauma and torture, when he desperately needs someone he can rely on without second guessing everything to do with human duality. That doesn't exist with a sword spirit - Suibian just cares.

Here is a comprehensive list of the reasons I think Ezjinx is the most insanely underrated ship in all of League:

• They are both chaotic in their own ways, and thrive in dangerous/adventurous situations

• Their personalities match up very well. This one might be a bit more controversial I guess? Because people tend to think they wouldn’t work well. But in my opinion, I feel like even though they are very different from one another, they complement and contrast each other in all the right ways.

• Their voice lines in the game are very playful and silly, I feel that they have a lot of chemistry in the way that they would go back-and-forth. I can definitely see them having a lot of fun playfully flirting with each other.

• I think their back stories work well together and they understand each other a bit. While they are obviously very different circumstances, both of them are essentially orphans with abandonment issues and I think they could really connect over that.

• I think that Jinx would have a lot of fun going on adventures with Ezreal. Like, this is more based on headcanons than anything actually canon, but I mean, come on. They would totally have so much fun exploring together, even in just a platonic sense I think it would work out amazingly. Okay no, not amazingly, they’d actively make every dangerous situation worse but that’s not gonna stop them whatsoever.

• Jinx being from Zaun and Ezreal being from Piltover would work great considering how geographically they are very close to each other. So realistically, they have a chance of meeting. They’re practically next-door neighbors. Also, since Ezreal has a disdain for Piltover, him and Jinx could connect over that as well. They both have gotten into trouble with the law (Jinx infinitely more) but that’s another thing that they have in common so I’m adding points for that!

• This one’s kind of shallow, but I really think their designs complement each other well. Like the color schemes match up very nicely,  I think their personal styles contrast each other very well, they just look good, standing next to each other and it is very pleasing to my eyes.

Just in general, I really think people overlook them a lot. There’s a lot of potential there that I see, and while I can absolutely understand why people don’t ship them and think they wouldn’t work together, I honestly just feel it’s up to everyone’s personal interpretations of the characters, you know? I personally have my own AU of jinx that’s kind of a mix between League!Jinx and Arcane!Jinx that I ship with Ezreal, so my interpretations aren’t completely true to either canons, but I honestly don’t care. Maybe Ezjinx is a little out of character, but I’m having fun and that’s what really matters to me.

Small side rant, but I really think that we need to stop being so serious about why we ship something. I made this list because I felt like it, but in reality, I just think they’re cute together and it doesn’t really go a lot deeper than that. I don’t think it HAS to go deeper than that. People have gotten weirdly upset with me for shipping them because “they don’t work together.” And I just… don’t care? I don’t need for them to be the most amazing wonderful 100% perfect canon-complementary ship that ever existed. Ezjinx brings me comfort and happiness. I see a lot of myself in jinx, so I also use the ship as a small bit of self insert. I am happy doing what I’m doing and it’s not hurting anybody. I don’t need a deep reason to pair them, they make me happy and that’s all that really matters to me.

I think that’s what’s most important when it comes to shipping. It should be something that comforts you, makes you happy, makes you laugh, whatever. As long as it isn’t hurting anyone, I just don’t see the reason to be so aggressive about it. Not everyone’s gonna agree on pairings and that’s OK. There needs to be a lot more of people simply celebrating their own pairings, rather than going after others for having different ones. This should be common sense! Makes me sad that it’s not seen as such.

Like the whole war between Lightcannon and Timebomb shippers. I’m more of a Timebomb truther, and I don’t ship Lightcannon, but I see no reason to be so mean towards Lightcannon shippers. Because what is the crime here exactly? Shipping something you don’t agree with? Lightcannon doesn’t change Timebomb’s existence, and vice versa. Regardless of canon or not, everyone has the right to ship what they want. We need to stop arguing over which pair is better and learn to get along. I hold no ill will towards anyone who ships a paring I don’t like. It’s so easy to just scroll or block content you don’t like. The ship wars, the arguing, it’s all so unnecessary.

So, unnecessary ramble aside, whether this convinced you to ship them or not, I just wanted to ramble about this because I’m so very passionate about Ezjinx :]

(Also!! This does not apply to proshipping. I’m talking about normal ships here. I don’t want any proshippers using this rant as a sign that I support them. Fuck off.)

Personally I do believe Max could have potentially been redeemed (COULD HAVE, not automatically would have, there’s a difference) had he survived the Waylon place. Yes, I realize he’s a horrible person who intentionally and maliciously torments others, but that’s what makes a possible redemption arc so compelling to me. I don’t believe anybody is 100% good or bad and anybody can change if they’re willing to put in the effort - and to me, his reaction to the prank shows that he is capable of being nicer and at least open to changing his mindset (that’s my reading, others will have different interpretations and that’s totally fine). Would he change overnight if he even did? Realistically, no, but I think if you lean into the absurdity of Hatchetfield and the over the top + morally grey nature of all the characters in it even a more rushed redemption can work (saw a post about that awhile back and I’ve been thinking about it ever since).

I don’t think putting him through a redemption arc and having him become nicer as a result is quite the same thing as mischaracterization or “woobifying/uwuifying” - I guess it is in the sense that it departs from his canon characterization and makes him softer but if you give him character development in a fan work, of course he’s going to change. And it’s not like it’s completely out of left field - again, he at least showed potential for it in canon, even if it was extremely brief. Also, I and most other people in the “Max could’ve been redeemed” camp are well aware that whatever’s going on in his home life isn’t an excuse for his behavior - exploring what’s going on in his life and how it might influence him isn’t the same thing as saying it justifies what he does or it’s the only reason behind it.

I completely respect if someone doesn’t think he would’ve been redeemed, but I don’t think it’s totally fair to say that everyone who thinks he’s redeemable and explores that possibility in fanworks is mischaracterizing him or doesn’t understand his character - I think it’s more of a case of differing interpretations and that’s totally fine! At the end of the day none of us know what would’ve happened if he survived the Waylon place because he didn’t, he died and came back wrong (but iconic. I love the asshole villain he is in canon too, I just also love him for the silly goober I think he could’ve been if he had the chance).

KAKAGAI HEAD CANONS! ON IT!

Post war Gai misses his races with Kakashi. For a while they can't do any physical challenges because of the 8 gates and Gai needing time to recover, but eventually he starts to heal and when he's almost recovered 100% (minus leg), Kakashi surprises him by inviting him to the courtyard, where he surprises him with two wheel chairs, and him sitting in one, and challenging Gai to a race. They're wheel chairs he commissions Tenten and Kankuro to make and they are MADE FOR SPEED.

Kakashi says he's just not done with their rivalry yet, and has planned out MANY physically active challenges for him and Gai for years to come.

Cue much hugging and tears from Gai, before they rush off through the streets.

Kakashi would do this. Man straight up sits in Gai’s wheelchair in Komoha Shinden XD he’d have a race chair made so they could be totally fair (and he has to work on learning to pay close attention to his surroundings because the man has eaten dirt because he hit a too big rock going too fast 😭😭😭)

They’re also do a lot of their more silly competitions too, though.

So someone out there in the tyt/tgol universe must be writing at least some fanfiction right?? I don’t know what it would be about but probably a lot of the standard y/n and x reader fics mixed with some stuff about the lunchtable group. However, someone must be writing the pollen and piper x shell fics. And then there’s also Naomi x Apollo, Percabeth, and just the fact that it would be real person fiction for them also makes me so envious lmaoo 😭😭 But back to the point of my ask, are the characters reading it? Because I’d like to believe that they would, they may even write some themselves (cough cough Kayla cough cough) but I just don’t think some of them would be able to resist the urge to go on Ao3 like the rest of us. Like even if it was just pure curiosity and not for casual enjoyment. And then imagine their shipping culture and their tumblr and they (the fans) must be having so much fun knowing that a ship being canon means it’s like real life and oh my god THE MEET AND GREETS. I usually don’t care too much for celebrities and are fine with just appreciating their art but I’d actually feel previously unknown levels of excitement if I could meet legit anyone from the main cast of tyt. And like I’m totally yapping right now, but it reminds me of when my mom was like “yk I would’ve gotten you eras tour tickets if you told me about it sooner right?” And I was like “huh 😀” So yeah if I could get the equivalent but make it a Nico concert that mistake would’ve never made made on my watch. But this must be what the bts fanfiction authors kinda feel like except we’re all forced to watch from afar and the people in the actual universe get to have all the fun, and they get to have all of our celebrities too so they get extra but at least we get your fics so they’re at a significant loss too so ig that’s how we even the playing field.

solangelo and valdangelo are probably the most popular, just nico has,,, sort of, maybe nearly, surpassed jason and piper in fame at this point? maybe not jason, but seeing as piper took a step back over the recent years, he's definitely growing further. so jasico would prob also be popular, though i think the more... crazed fans would like the childhood friends to lovers trope more with will and leo! prob even some will/leo/nico with how codependent they all are LMAO

i think KAYLA would 100% read silly fics as a laugh, just so that she could quote them to her friends, bc she'd think it's hilarious. there may even be like one nico/kayla fic (which, ew) and she's just sitting there CACKLING over it bc nico's character couldn't be so wrong. neither could hers, for that matter.

other than that, i think i wrote before that shel has def written fanfic, and so has lou ellen, though i think lou ellen wrote more, like, fictional stories fanfic, not real people. and shel might've too- as a rule, i tend to stay away from writing real people into fanfics unless it's like, mentioning an actor/singer in passing

I was finally able to get around to reading your response omg Ari hiiiii, I hope you’ve been well! ^^ My goodness it’s always such a treat to read everything that you say, and I’m so honored to hear that you’d want to know more about my lil sona!🥺 It may be best to start with her background so it isn’t super confusing, but essentially!! During Sashisu’s highschool years she works at a little bakery, which she will one day manage and own when we reach the current time in the series! ^^ She’s aware of jujutsu sorcerors and her own CT but wants to steer clear of all that due to how dangerous it all is, but she will still use her CT when necessary! Also funny little thought idk if it’s canon or I read it in a fic, but I remember hearing that sorcerors needed a License or qualifications to use their CT and she just?? Is not willing to deal with that so she’s technically breaking Jujutsu law or smth and her buds are just?? Simply looking the other way huh what?? Breaking the law?? No no that’s our buddy she would never <:)

I Imagine she meets the trio after they’ve finished a mission and Gojo insists on stopping by the bakery for some sweets before they have to head back to Jujutsu tech and while enjoying their respective treats they see an employee(ms girl) giving nasty stares to any patrons that have lingering curses until they disappear and a collective understanding of ‘Oh okay she can see them too.’ is had between the three of them. I don’t have specifics on how they all truly get to know one another, but I can dish out dynamic deets😌

With Gojo they are so stupid but so silly. He is >:D whilst she is <:). An unstoppable force of tomfoolery meets an unmovable object of common sense. Pokémon vs. Digimon. She is calmer and plenty more humble out of the two, but she enjoys how goofy he can be along with his antics. Like?? He will hold up a line while she is at the register, telling her for the fifth time that he’s one of the strongest, so special that the world had to change to match his level when he was born and she, covered up to her glasses in flour, fingertips burnt from grazing hot pans and in a general state of ‘okay this is fine’, looks at him devoid of all emotion and says, “That is so cool. Your total is $36.75”. Begs for free sweets as if he couldn’t buy the store 100 times over. They have a silly and light dynamic and it is v v fun! (I also have this running gag that were they ever to be on a team and needed a team name they would be called ‘Ten eyes’, Gojo with his 6 eyes and because she wears glasses, plays with the whole ‘4 eyes’ tease that can pop up when someone is wearing glasses, so hence the 10 eyes! If that makes sense! <:) )

Now for Geto I imagine they are both super mellow and lax, if someone wanted to just take in the scenery and have an easy day of comfort this is the duo to go with! Sugu is a natural born worrier, but I think seeing her get distracted by hustle and bustle no matter where she is, watching her glare something nasty at a particularly rowdy curse despite knowing what it can do, or how she shrinks back at rude customers he is just?? Always ready to help and give her a nudge along the way if needed. He is teasing and silly, and she either plays along or is so blunt for comedic effect and cannot be messed with, but there’s fun in that uncertainty and he likes the toss up! The Kuromi to her My Melody. She worries about him stretching himself too thin and how his CT can harm him, but never knows how to broach the topic and would never want to pry in something that’s none of her business. <:(

And finally Shoko! I must admit and forewarn that I’m not the most versed in her character, but I do absolutely love her, and this is what I imagine for them! Much like with Sugu, they have a very relaxed dynamic, but I imagine they have plenty of inside jokes considering who they’re both friends with lmao. She worries about Shoko because smoking is never good but never wants to come across as preachy and Shoko thinks it’s sweet and can’t help but tease her every now and again, but appreciates the sentiment! Also incredibly late night texts, it will be 3AM and they will both be up sending the most nonsensical things to one another. They have matching dark circles underneath their eyes💙 She bakes special treats or savory items for Shoko on the days she knows they’re visiting because she knows Shoko isn’t fond of sweets!

i DO live like this and my discord wips are a mess, i have to literally tag names onto the end of them because my writing style makes me not use names for like 300 words so i have to keep shoehorning the characters names in so that i know which snippet it was and it is Awful you would not believe the sheer state of that snippets channel

sometimes rotting is a very necessary part of the creative process!! on occasion you just have to grow moss and become nothing but bones and after a while it’s like Okay i can write now :)

fic writing is so EASY compared to all the context and lore and world building and character growth nd MAN i just wanted to write my silly guys being silly but now i have a doc open to the lore of how gods work so that my stupid guy will make a little more sense!!! what IS this!!!!!! when i write fanfiction i just sit down and recount wow lore to myself for 30 minutes while making beastly noises and then i’m normal again and can write fanfiction!! obviously fic writing is still difficult because of.. the horrors.. but at least i can blame the faults in my fic on blizzard :)

i was about to fight for the honor of my Totally Organized Discord WIPs but then i thought about it and yeah.. yeah. they’re kind of. messy… they all have individual channels and i am too scared to look thru them lest the spirit of my old work come alive to kill me or something

my ships are always so stupidly niche i can almost guarantee you my wip would be the first fic in MONTHS if not EVER for some of these anime fandoms i had one for a ship that didn’t even have a TAG i didn’t even know what to do i was so startled!! on the bright side though by virtue of simply posting a fic it could potentially spur other people to write about it which would be a net gain so… perhaps!

Brain Curd #300

Brain Curds - Behind the Series

Brain Curds are lightly edited daily writing - usually flash fiction and sometimes terrible on purpose.

It’s a challenge to come up with something to befit a milestone like this. Some would say it’s silly to do a special post to commemorate one of hundreds of little nuggets of creation - these aren’t meant to be great efforts, they’re just to keep the cheese grating. But I’ve already set a precedent at this point: Brain Curd #100 let me look back at the first hundred days I spent writing these. Brain Curd #200 allowed me to offer a concise visual history of my creative output over the course of my entire life (though not too many of you took me up on it).

For Brain Curd #300, well… to tell the truth, I’ve been racking my you-know-what to come up with a satisfying answer. What could I possibly write that recognizes this accomplishment for what it is, satisfies myself and my audience, and doesn’t rehash my musings on the new year? I think I’ve found the perfect thing.

Today, I’m looking back at some of the most prominent recurring series of this 300-post run to share with you juicy behind-the-scenes information the likes of which you’ve probably seen before (like on DVDs and stuff) but never about Brain Curds - until now! Where did they come from? Where did they go? Are they coming back? All this and more today - that’s the Brain Curd #300 promise.

Government Man

Government Man was the first big break-out hit from this project. Though when I say ‘hit’ I’m mostly referring to my own feelings on the matter, this is still one of the more popular series of mine… based on how many notes each episode gets, anyway.

Initially, the concept was borne of my dry humor and general disillusionment with the USA (then again, what isn't?). More importantly, though, I allowed myself to explore the absurdity of it all without polishing my prose. There's a charming staccato quality to Government Man #1 that I've somewhat abandoned as the rust flaked off of my writing gears and the characters became better defined.

I wasn't always planning on having series as part of Brain Curds, but challenging myself to a time limit of ten minutes (I found this to be too restrictive and switched to Twenty-Minute Tuesdays the following week) got me immediately thinking of how I could avoid making a new concept entirely from scratch. Government Man #2 was a fun little bit of character building which by complete happenstance made Government Woman a keeper of exotic animals, a trait which became more and more important later on.

Episode 3 introduced the big bad, Counter Spy. This one started as an off-the-cuff bedtime story for my ex - and honestly, the breakup might have ruined the series for me if I weren't so attached. But this unlikely source set in motion the main plot of Season 1, which was completed by Episode 21, though not totally wrapped up.

My favorite entry? It’s hard to say for sure, but I’m proud of the foreshadowing and big reveal that I pulled off at the two-thirds point of the season - which never would have happened if I didn’t desperately need a break from Counter Spy.

Government Man will return as soon as I have some ideas for Season 2. The holiday special is only second-class canon, part of neither Season 1 nor Season 2… So don’t worry about it.

The Prom Consort

It all started with queerbaiting. I saw the new Ghostbusters and was immensely frustrated. If you've seen it, you know what I mean. If the ghost was a boy, they would have kissed. Fucking Hollywood. Anyway…

After I let out my annoyance with Clearly Bait (BC#7), a couple weeks later I started writing a diatribe about the concept of love triangles and realized halfway through that this was the same character from that, back for revenge. A triad was the logical next step, and the plot thickened.

As of right now, I'm not entirely sure where to go with this story. In the aftermath of a harsh breakup, it was kind of tough for me to access those romantic sensibilities that were with me when I started. But I do want to come back to this one. It's still got life left in it. I want to see where these characters end up. Do they succeed in their goal, or does the drama push them all apart?

The Frank Program

The Frank Program started its life long before the concept of Brain Curds ever existed, first as a vague creation of two men named Mike. Frank was initially a sort of wimpy, pathetic character used for prank calls to the local radio station. Which might have been less notable if the two Mikes didn't have a show themselves.

I myself was a former host of the same show, which came to be known as Audiophiles. So naturally, on the occasions that I'd appear as a guest, I was involved with their hijinks. I even made a prank call as Frank - take a listen if you like:

The two Mikes thought it was hilarious. The hosts of the other show didn't. I doubt anyone cares much about it by now, but it was part of the reason the show got canceled. The other reason was that one of the Mikes was sleeping under the desk.

Later on, I considered trying drag, and naturally I needed to come up with a character to play. Frank, for whatever reason, came to mind. I envisioned him as something of a southerner conspiracy theorist comedian, but I never got as far as his appearance. I did, however, record a proto-Frank Program episode. This one’s short, so check it out (maybe don’t listen to it in public, though):

One day last year, I needed to write a Brain Curd and he came to mind again, so I put him in a room with a guest to interview and his meek producer. Modern Frank - the loveable, loathsome idiot with more connections than sense, was born to great success. After that, well… It's 90% fiction, but there’s a true story if you know where to look.

Frank’s in rehab now, but I think Daryl is doing a fine job as host by himself. Better than I ever did, at least.

Veronica

Sometimes you just need to let those intrusive gory images out of your mind. It’s bloodletting.

The first three Veronica entries started with first lines I thought were clever and built off from there. Then they just got really, really violent. Honestly, I’m pretty squicked out by that sort of thing in real life. Drops of blood on the floor are enough to make me a touch light-headed. Not my blood, mind you, only other people’s blood. I’m very much used to seeing my own.

After that ‘trilogy’, I had a unique opportunity. Due to the format of Brain Curds, I was able to start a whole new ongoing story that was secretly (or obviously, depending on how close you pay attention) Veronica's unraveling - that being Apart at the Seams.

I finally put Veronica through what she deserved, including the pain she was never before able to feel, which was quite cathartic in the aftermath of a painful and gory surgery (See my #V-Day posts if you want to know).

Now that the detective seems to have figured her out, where is there to go? A court trial? Prison? Foster home? It's hard to come up with anything worth exploring. So for now, this series is over. But it was a cool cross of whodunnit and how-find-out while it lasted.

Passable.

I’ve wanted to make a trans sitcom for years and years. In 2019 or so, I decided I was going to write a pilot, and the four characters were loosely based on some people I knew at the time. The initial concept for this pilot, known as ‘Transpotting’, was what ended up as the A-plot for Episode 2. Here's an excerpt from the first first draft:

Yeah, that’s not an excerpt, I lied; that’s all I wrote. But it's for the best, honestly. I didn't have the greatest understanding of how sitcom plots were constructed back then… or how to write good comedy dialogue. It's fortuitous, then, that I finally took the plunge in Brain Curd #30 and jumped into a completely different, off-the-top-of-my-head and absolutely bonkers plot that could probably never be aired on television. At this point, I think I’ve poached most of what is worthwhile from this exchange for the show proper.

At this point, I may not be perfect at writing for Passable,, but I've gotten in a groove with these characters and the episodes will only continue to improve. It’s one of my favorites to write, and I think it’s worth noting that I conceived of and wrote the entire holiday special within the month of December. That says something. Not sure what, but it’s something.

The next step is to revise what I’ve got. After that, I’ll begin work on a pilot script I can actually get past the FCC. In the meantime, we’ll continue checking in on Lily, Alice, Sarah, and Brayden to see what they’re up to.

Clint & Reggie

These goofballs came about entirely by accident. Normally, I wouldn’t come back to characters without good reason - continuity, for example. But after Goldfish (BC#102), I realized how much I enjoyed their dynamic and (more importantly) how much I don’t enjoy coming up with new names. Since Reggie killed Clint (spoiler alert) I had no choice but to keep these episodic and disconnected, to the point that I don’t even link to their previous appearances like I do with other series.

Clint & Reggie may remain roommates until the end of time, no matter how many times (successfully or otherwise) Reggie murders Clint. They're good friends.

As far as the best entry goes, I'm pretty sure the original can't be topped: the line, “I realized I was smiling, and the snacks smiled back” is just too good. But hey, maybe something of that caliber could show up again. My brain does the wildest things.

Cole Nicole

I had this idea of a sunset and nothing else, so I started with just that sentence. All of a sudden, there was a living, breathing twink in a cute bikini laying on the beach. I can’t explain it other than maybe I was a little horny. Hence, Cole Nicole. As I stated in the tags for Episode 1, he's my new “imaginary boyfriend.”

Rikki Numbers, Cole's nemesis, existed in my mind as a vague concept long before Cole ever did. He was something of a femboy alter-ego for myself - a dominant nymphomaniac with a deeper voice than I use day-to-day, but otherwise not altogether a different personality from myself. The version of him in this series is way different - he's high femme, flamboyant, vaguely european, and a total bitch.

At least, you'd think he is. But maybe he's not so bad. Don't worry, you'll see more of Cole, Rikki, and the rest. I just have to come up with their outfits… Not my greatest talent. Hell or high water, though, you’ll see more femboy friday.

Quantum Fates

The freshest face of these ongoing series came to me in a dream. I dreamt of being back in high school, with vague knowledge of a future I worked to change for the better. What startled me was the unintended consequences - I saw a face I wasn’t expecting.

This isn’t exactly what Quantum Fates is or will be, but it brought me back to a concept I’ve wanted desperately to explore: what would I do if I could go back? Ultimately, despite my attempts to make something of it (see Memories Retained, both the original poem and the fizzled novella) I just couldn’t figure out how to make it interesting to anyone but myself. It’s reflexive fanfic, and I’m the only fan.

That’s why this realization was so integral. The fact of the memories being retained took all the life out of the story, took what little suspense there might be and made it, “oh, yeah, I remember that happening.” Maybe there’s something to be found within that setup, but the slow drip-feed of information is much more engaging, and the underrepresented status quo only adds to that.Reading Quantum Fates, you don’t just wonder why Trevor’s got that voice in his head, and bizarre premonitions, but you also ask why he lives with his grandparents, why his relationship with his father is strained, when he’s going to figure out… Oh, I shouldn’t tell you that. You know neither what happened nor what will happen - that is, you don’t know for sure. That’s my goal, at least. I hope by making it interesting to write, it’s interesting to read, too.
