Well, it finally happened. I cried at work.

#I managed to hold it together until the end of the meeting #and just cry on the way back to my desk in front of my work partner #and not in front of our horrific manager #but she asked me to prepare a specific thing in a specific way for our meeting #I did exactly as she asked #I had my work partner look at it #I also had my former manager look at it #and he’s spearheading that same thing on his own new team #they both said it looked great #I presented it in the meeting #there was a few seconds of dead silence #and then our manager made it very clear that she wanted it done in a very different way #one she’d never asked for #and asked that everyone in the meeting brainstorm over the week #and come back next Tuesday to make a new one together #moving the bar #and making me look incompetent #I’m actively looking for a new job #both inside and outside the company #but swallowing all of this while I look #is going to be the best acting performance of my life #Oscar worthy stuff #cause emotionally I’m all the way done

“Grandmother is visiting,” Damian suddenly said with no warning and with his usual not-quite demanding tone.

“Who?” Tim wasn’t the only one to startle, seeing as Bruce had practically froze, a downturn to his lips in a silent show of confusion.

Damian scowled. “Are you deaf Drake? Grandmother is coming to Gotham to, quote, make sure I am being properly cared for.” None of them had known that Ras was with anyone actually. At least Tim was pretty sure that would have been in the files.

“Oh?” Dick didn’t quite crouch to Damian’s height but it was a near thing. “She-” “He,” Damian corrected, interrupting him. They all exchanged a glance before Dick continued.

“Is he coming to the Manor or…”

Damian scoffed again, a tiny bit of a flush against his face. “No, Grandmother will most likely be staying with Akhi-”

Man, what a great character Hoolay is. Proud, extremely so, but not so arrogant that it'd easily be his downfall. Confident, but not to the point where he believes himself irreplaceable - even the opposite, where he sees the way other borisin see him as a great savior as a weakness. And smart. Very smart. It'd have been easy to make him a savage beast going on a mindless rampage, but instead he was extremely cautious and strategic and was playing mind games with both his hostage and pursuers. And all that made the stakes feel that much higher through the story, because the hunt is a lot more dangerous when the prey is always one step away from becoming the predator.

#AND he probably fed the furry side of the fandom for at least ten patches. what can't he do.#honkai star rail spoilers #hsr spoilers #hsr #hoolay my beloved i love it when a villain looks like he's tailor made to be cartoonishly evil and then he isn't #he's literally the big bad wolf but boy could you FEEL why he was both so feared and so respected #he really lived up to what the xianzhou people said about him and it was delightful #of course he was always going to fall but through all of 2.4 and 2.5 even if it was a narrative certainty it didn't feel like one #it took 3 generals together to both outsmart and outmatch him and especially feixiao had to take a MASSIVE risk #thank you mihoyo for a great villain #ray's records #everyone's already talked at length about the other stars of the trailblaze continuance #but to me both hoolay and lingsha were pleasant surprises #i didn't expect them to stand out but i wound up really liking both of them

I love getting my silly little dose of validation whenever I explain something as small to my childhood as "yea they taught us to be prepared to be soldiers in spiritual warfare between angels and demons from a young age" and having my therapist or a friend respond like

#my therapist thought I was making a crusades joke and looked genuinely distressed when I said No No. I mean literal spiritual warfare.#I've never seen a person go thru the 5 stages of grief faster than that man in that moment #by spiritual warfare I mean the demons and angels fighting around us at all times or whatever the fuck #the thing that causes people to say the devil is attacking them #but yea no that fueled my martyr complex but not nearly as much as other things #cause this one was at least hypothetical and invisible #'She Said Yes' and whatnot was much more real and much scarier #my paranoia was awful in middle and high school #But yea me and a friend of mine were both raised in separate cults so we were explaining our cults to a friend and it was a great time #it's fuckin wild out here #ex christian #religious trauma

#but it's complicated cause I don't have a lot of understanding of how canaan house and the ninth was back then #and what timeline of events looked like so i keep rotating in my head dif scenarios with dif ideas #Anasatasia could've had her own way of calming Alecto during tantrums but Alecto still could accidentally hurt her in out rage #at least Anastasia is great at mending broken bones #them hanging out in the pool is everyone's hc #but once had an idea that telling the true started with them both submerged and Alecto just unpromptedly started bluntly blurting out stuff #but in the gist of 'I'm eating pencils' and then it escalated with time #someone said before that Alecto being sorry about Samael in her nature might mean that she somehow was responsible even if not in direct wa #it could be eating her out after Samael's death and seeing how heartbroken Anastasia was #so later on the ninth she drags Anastasia into the water and reveals something that makes Anastasia realize John fucked her over #Anastasia's breaking down and after on it could lead to the vow being made #cause I'm still thinking about that one line that John says 'Anastasia knew 'at the time' that killing Samael was a necessity'#like she could've figure out something #keep rotating in my mind conversation that goes like #Alecto: are you angry with me #Anastasia: yes. but I'm not being fair

so hey guys i finished dungeon meshi yesterday and i'm still thinking about it

#ria.txt #i spoiled myself so at first i was like 'this is bonkers wtf are they doing in those last few chapters?????'#but then it was like. yeah. i see #love those ch when it's just clearly putting the squad into Situations #also. izutsumi #what i really liked was how tightly the protagonist and the deuteragonist were wound up in the overall themes #the plot the themes the conflict the characters it was very neatly connected #hence i am also now accidentally invested in whatever going on between laios and marcille #not just platonic not romantic not enemies i just think they work well tgt and deeply care for each other its great watching them develop #it's the leader + most trusted advisor / anxious girlfailure + the annoying freak she's somehow attached to vibes #haha that rabbit chapter with marcille. hahha i was like what the fuck man. it was funny and then boom whump [tears streaming down my face]#those shapeshifter chs were sooo much fun esp seeing other chara's perceptions of each other. stealing that #the changeling ones were great too elf senshi is the fucking funniest he looks sooooooo unserious #marcille's evolving perception with death starting with saving falin and saving the squad and her nightmares of outliving everyone-#-and her dad and her 'temper tantrum' and UGH when at the end she said she was fine with falin not coming back.... WAAA. OUGH.#i think dunmeshi handled the trope of 'prophecy of chosen one becoming king' pretty well and it makes sense why laios is the protag #the worldbuilding is so thoughtful as well i liked seeing different characters with different worldviews interact #very solid and well rounded series wooo #the main 4 has such a fun dynamic together #anyways. dunmeshi au.....#more like borrowing the worldbuilding bc charas are too nuanced for a one to one comparison #ren is like some prince of his own species but he's like 34th in line and no one cares about him so he fucks off to eat monsters #which is why he's both snobbish AND a total freak when it comes to his food taste #false is originally in for the money from ren and plans to scam him but unfortunately the cringefail swag captures her #martyn is Obnoxiously Clueless and thinks he's smart but he's not. he's resourceful but also pathetic and crazy #stress cant cook but she thinks she does so everyone goes (≖_≖ ) when she picks up a pot. they delegate her to killing and chopping duty #the mvp is iskall who keeps on saving everyone's asses and somehow has resources for everyone #i think ren is actually aware false is going to scam him but he has too much money to spend anyway and he thinks shes cool so he lets her??#and somehow she doesnt take the money and run. and goes back to eating monsters w/ the party. everyone is crazy

Something tells him not to look up the rosters.

#as i am sure has been very obvious i have been incredibly unwell this year for a variety of reasons #and i read that fic right after my uncle died suddenly and unexpectedly so i was thinking a lot about hospice while i was reading it #and i was going to about 8 million sharkuda games per week to just not be at home bc everything has fallen apart there #(also for a variety of reasons. but there is a lot of intense grief over my stepsister's death involved)#so today having signed a lease on an apartment on the entire other side of the country to be closer to career stuff and #get a fresh start and a hopefully happier and more stable life (even if a huge move and a career change makes me nervous)#while also the first thing said to me is that another family member had passed this morning (expectedly) and a relative #who became very sick recently (unexpectedly) and who due to advanced age does not have a great prognosis #it became a uniquely precious gift to have this completed and sent to me by imp this afternoon.#the fic + the ensuing games of seeing that reel hit a very tender part of me that has dealt with death and instability my entire life #and it is amazing to see an image of logan's similar loss and instability so perfectly realized!!#his troubled face!! the way it feels both underwater and in another world!! the lights all around that could be anything!!#looking up at the indistinct faces of his teammates who could be so so many people at this point but who he misses nonetheless!!#also PLEASE zoom in on the mist - the texturing and color gradients are SO cool. and the reflection on his helmet is so sick #the color scheme in this is freaking amazing and i just love it all so much man!!!#anyway i don't have a concluding thought. i was going to make this into a puzzle (i'm back on my bullshit)#but i will probably get it printed and framed too #if any of u come visit me know. know that your chances of seeing haunted logan couture are non-zero #and he could be ANYWHERE #art #san jose sharks #logan couture

it's funny. I keep making all these posts defending Aziraphale and it's because there's this annoying trend in the fandom to villainize him while simultaneously woobifying Crowley, so there's a need for more Aziraphale perspective

but I was thinking, if we stopped looking at fandom for a minute, and just regarded Aziraphale as a character, how would I criticize him or his choices?

I think all the triplets have, accidentally or on purpose, called Beakley "granny" at one point or another.

Louie is the first one to slip up and it's like calling the teacher "mom". Beakley doesn't comment on it but if Scrooge notices she's happier than usual afterwards despite acting as normal as possible, no he didn't <3.

#books #jo walton has done it again #almost the only reason i ever look at tor.com these days is to read her monthly roundup of the books she's read #because a good chunk of her reading is the type of classics i love #including a lot of forgotten light classics of the early 20th century #this was one of those #mentioned in a column from last year that i happened to read the other day #with a review that said this should be one of those classics that everyone knows and reads #instead of being this completely forgotten book #and since it happened to be on hoopla (a common perk of these types of book recs from her) i read it #i don't think it's all-time classic great #but it's a solid middlebrow novel #the beginning was a bit of rough going but after the major part of the plot kicked off it become rather lovely #because there was a lot of the above #explorations of the value of work and friendships and relationships #and because of things like the above quote the central relationship is one of my favorite romances of the year #it's a solid relationship built on friendship and mutual respect #with both of them having stories and emotional journeys beyond the romance #reminded me a little bit of gaskell in some ways

just got reminded of david oakes personally telling me that neil jordan deliberately screwed over juan at the end of his arc and completely downplayed how he went beyond the intent of the characters at first, or to quote david, juan became a "victim" of neil's imagination lmaoo
