I had to oh-so-carefully fill out an “anonymous” survey about Dolores today for Human Resources. If I ever decide to try my hand at diffusing a bomb, this will be the experience from which I draw.
The light is off in both my fridge and my freezer. I *believe* I’ve heard and felt the fridge making noise since I noticed it, so I think it might just be the bulb or something and not that the fridge has died . . . but I’m keeping an eye on it.
3 days before I see NFA.
17 days before my workmate returns from maternity leave.
4 weeks before our new boss starts.

Adelaide has decided she wants to take voice lessons, and I think this is the first time I’ve had to have the “BE COOL. DON’T GET TOO EXCITED.” talk with myself about something she’s interested in.
#I was in at least two choirs at a time from age maybe 12 to 21#plus musicals in high school#classical vocal training all four years of college#and an a capella group#so i’m excited she’s interested#and at the same time determined that her experience isn’t at all colored by my own

He found visits to the countryside, and the cows in particular, helped calm him down.

The toddler in his car seat, holding his tiny bare foot out the window to wiggle his toes in the breeze
Waking up to a love-filled audio message from NFA
The two women pushing strollers that turned out to have cats in them rather than babies
All the protest footage on social and news media
Three days of gorgeous 80-something weather
The biker leaving a shopping center with a gleaming white coffin on the flat trailer attached to his motorcycle
Teddy falling into my lap and staring up at me lovingly while I baby talk him and scratch his belly

IF YOU ARE IN NC AND YOU VOTED, CHECK IF YOUR NAME IS ON THIS LIST.
The North Carolina Court of Appeals ruled in a 2-1 decision that over 60,000 votes cast in last year’s closely contested state Supreme Court race must be verified and recounted. The ruling comes after Republican candidate Jefferson Griffin, who lost the race, challenged the eligibility of tens of thousands of 2024 voters. Those voters will now have 15 days to verify their eligibility, potentially changing the outcome of the election. Check your name here: https://thegriffinlist.com

Hands Off protests around the country.
As to folks proclaiming these photos are bad OPSEC, we can all agree everyone in these photos is at this protest to be seen protesting. People worried about OPSEC do not go to peaceful protests easily identified or at all. Just chill for a sec and let people have their peaceful movement.

#the scissors everyone keeps in their junk drawer#the corkscrew#because it’s annoying to have to open regular things with a knife#and downright infuriating not to have the ONE thing that will remove a cork#probably should take the can opener too

#footage of my work day#you guys don’t want the whole boring story#but the cliff notes version is that I had to be the liaison between Product and Design today#and they are NOT on the same page about the time it takes to create a custom video#I agree with Design#but Dolores agrees with Product#so Design is fucked#always fun to be the voice of reason when no one will listen

"In my life, I have watched John Kennedy talk on television about missiles in Cuba. I saw Lyndon Johnson look Richard Russell squarely in the eye and and say, "And we shall overcome." I saw Richard Nixon resign and Gerald Ford tell the Congress that our long national nightmare was over. I saw Jimmy Carter talk about malaise and Ronald Reagan talk about a shining city on a hill. I saw George H.W. Bush deliver the eulogy for the Soviet bloc, and Bill Clinton comfort the survivors of Timothy McVeigh's madness in Oklahoma City. I saw George W. Bush struggle to make sense of it all on September 11, 2001, and I saw Barack Obama sing 'Amazing Grace' in the wounded sanctuary of Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston, South Carolina.
"These were the presidents of my lifetime. These were not perfect men. They were not perfect presidents, god knows. Not one of them was that. But they approached the job, and they took to the podium, with all the gravitas they could muster as appropriate to the job. They tried, at least, to reach for something in the presidency that was beyond their grasp as ordinary human beings. They were not all ennobled by the attempt, but they tried nonetheless.
"And comes now this hopeless, vicious buffoon, and the audience of equally hopeless and vicious buffoons who laughed and cheered when he made sport of a woman whose lasting memory of the trauma she suffered is the laughter of the perpetrators. Now he comes, a man swathed in scandal, with no interest beyond what he can put in his pocket and what he can put over on a universe of suckers, and he does something like this while occupying an office that we gave him, and while endowed with a public trust that he dishonors every day he wakes up in the White House.
"The scion of a multigenerational criminal enterprise, the parameters of which we are only now beginning to comprehend. A vessel for all the worst elements of the American condition. And a cheap, soulless bully besides. We never have had such a cheap counterfeit of a president* as currently occupies the office. We never have had a president* so completely deserving of scorn and yet so small in the office that it almost seems a waste of time and energy to summon up the requisite contempt.
"Watch how a republic dies in the empty eyes of an empty man who feels nothing but his own imaginary greatness, and who cannot find in himself the decency simply to shut up even when it is in his best interest to do so. Presidents don't have to be heroes to be good presidents. They just have to realize that their humanity is our common humanity, and that their political commonwealth is our political commonwealth, too.
Watch him behind the seal of the President of the United States. Isn't he a funny man? Isn't what happened to that lady hilarious? Watch the assembled morons cheer. This is the only story now."
- Charles Pierce
